VIDEO: First Read Minute: Reality check: 'Charm offensives' are overrated

President Obama heads to Capitol Hill to meet with House Republicans, but perhaps too much is made of so-called "charm offensives." The structure and numbers of divided government are far more important. NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss.

Anyone else as tired as I am on the derogatory "charm offensive" meme? First the MSM falsely whined for years about the President not being all warm & fuzzy enough with the opposition. Then when he reaches out to them, they still complain with cutesy misleading headlines. Since when did it becom …

VIDEO: The Week Ahead: Obama woos Capitol Hill

President Obama's charm offensive continues as he heads to Capitol Hill for four meetings, potential Republican 2016 hopefuls take center stage in Miami and at CPAC, a big announcement in the Virginia governor's race, and Andy filibusters the Week Ahead. How long can he last?

VIDEO: First Read Minute: Jeb Bush leaves door open - real or P.R. 101?

In interviews promoting his new book, former Florida governor Jeb Bush is not ruling out a 2016 bid and is adjusting his position on a pathway to citizenship.

real or P.R. 101? DUH! I'm sure Team Willard is more then a little pissed that Jeb has managed to out flip-flop even them! Didn't Jeb, slam Team Willard for the campaigns stance on immigration only last year? In Jeb's case, the third time is definitely NOT a charm! lol

VIDEO: First Read Minute: Washington, in need of a timeout

Republicans are set to punt the fiscal fight over a government shutdown to September. Both sides are out of gas and have come to a truce – for now – to avoid a government shutdown over the budget March 27, when the latest continuing resolution to fund the government expires. Mitt Romney emerged for an interview Sunday, and may have revealed why he had trouble winning in both of his presidential runs with just one line. NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss.

Are you kidding me? A "timeout"? The House is only working 164 per year as it is, if anything, they need a "time-in"!!! Mitt Romney emerged for an interview Sunday

What's next? May the airline slow downs, caused by the sequester, impact only the GOPTPers who headed home rather than stay and solve the problem....and earn their taxpayer-funded salaries. "Frist" again!

VIDEO: First Read Minute: Blame games and posturing

NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro note there is no movement toward a compromise to avert the sequester's deep domestic and defense cuts. Right now, it's all about the blame game. And the immigration debate rages on, as Sen. John McCain faces a tough crowd back home in Arizona.

Not sure why anyone expects movement on the sequester while Congress is off on vacation. It takes both sides to compromise. The GOPTP refuses to budge on increased revenues or sensible defense cuts and as long as that is the GOP's stand, the democrats will not budge on entitlements or programs they  …
