If Republicans don't compromise--and compromise significantly--and then vote on reasonable and responsible gun control measure, they are shooting themselves in their feet.

My dear friend Independent Redneck, VA sometimes uses this space on Fridays to talk about heroes. VIDEO: The Week Ahead: Sanford tries to complete political comeback

NBC's Domenico Montanaro looks at the week ahead in politics. Ex-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) is on the verge of a political comeback, favored to win a special election to the first congressional district in South Carolina. And an NBC poll on guns and the economy is released.

Sanford, the Argentine hiker, was one of Gingrich boys in the 1990s. He voted for the Clinton impeachment following the MonicaGate (Lewinsky scandal), declaring Clinton's behavior to be "reprehensible." Yeah, more right-wing hypocrisy. Sanford, take a hike. Appalachia has just called.

VIDEO: First Read Minute: Same-sex marriage, wedge issue no longer

As the Supreme Court begins two days of oral arguments on the topic of gay marriage, NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss how it has disappeared as a true political issue between the parties, and the notable change in public opinion on the topic over the past several years.

I think same sex marriage will happen sooner or later as it is a civil rights issue. Gay people just want the same acceptance and family stability that straight people want and are entitled to by law.
