    Ad Watch: Et tu, Donnelly?

Running against the "Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda" has been one of this year's most common campaign themes... on the Republican side. But today, incumbent Rep. Joe Donnelly of Indiana's second congressional district became the first Democrat to decry his party's leaders in an ad, telling voters he doesn't work for the "Washington Crowd," as a picture of President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader John Boehner flashes on the screen.

    IN-2, Donnelly, "Saw How Bad"
    8/9
DONNELLY: I went down to the border and saw for myself just how bad the situation really is. That's why I voted to hire 5,300 more border agents, penalize any business that hires illegals. Deport illegals who commit felonies and eliminate amnesty, because no one should ever be rewarded for breaking the law. That may not be what the Washington crowd wants, but I don't work for them. I work for you. I'm Joe Donnelly and I approve this message because we need to secure our borders once and for all. It's a matter of national security and enforcing our laws.

VA-2, anti-Nye (Emergency Cmte. for Israel) "Glenn Nye's Record"
    8/10
ANNCR: Most members of Congress are friends of Israel. That's why a huge majority, 88%, refused to sign a letter accusing Israel of collective punishment when Israel was defending her citizens from the terrorist group Hamas. But Glenn Nye signed that anti-Israel letter. A fellow Democratic congressman called Nye "misinformed." Israeli officials feared worse. Call Glenn Nye. Ask him why he joined the assault on Israel.

    LA SEN, Melancon, "Honest"

    8/9
MELANCON: I'm Charlie Melancon. And I approve this message because David Vitter hasn't been honest with Louisiana. And I don't expect anything different when he talks about my record. So I want you to hear it straight from me, what I stand for. I'm a pro-life, pro-gun Louisiana Democrat. I've been a businessman most of my life. And my philosophy is simple. When it comes to fixing this economy and protecting your family, I'll work with anyone if it's the right thing to do for Louisiana.

    PA SEN, Toomey, "Toomey Plan"

    8/9
ANNCR: "Washington is failing. Bailouts, takeovers, a stimulus that gave us record debt without creating jobs. Congressman Joe Sestak voted for all of it.Pat Toomey has a different plan." TOOMEY: "We can have a booming economy if we end the bailouts, stop the runaway spending, reduce taxes for workers and job creating businesses, and lower health care costs by making insurance companies compete with each other." ANNCR: "More jobs, less government. Pat Toomey." TOOMEY: "I'm Pat Toomey and I approved this message.

Toomey Plan from Pat Toomey on Vimeo.

    AR, Keet, "Courage to Lead"
    8/8
KEET: I'm Jim Keet and I'm running for governor. As a businessman I'm concerned about the lack of good-paying jobs in Arkansas. As a father I'm worried about the debt that's being passed on to my children, and as a taxpayer I'm angry about wasting money on a new airplane for the governor and new cars for bureaucrats' personal use. We can do better. I know how to cut waste, balance a budget and create jobs. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. ANNCR: Courage to lead. Jim Keet for governor.

    GA GOV, "The Newspaper Says"
    8/9
ANNCR: "This great state is falling behind. It isn't working. Do we continue down the same path with the same team that gave us ethics violations, teacher furloughs, tax breaks to special interests, homes foreclosed and misplaced priorities? Or do we work our way back? This election isn't about political parties or slogans. It's a choice between competent experience or more of the same. Roy Barnes. No on-the-job training necessary"

HI GOV, Abercrombie, "The Right Way"
    8/8
ABERCORMBIE: "I came back home because the big problems are right here. Many of you believe that government can't fix these problems, but government only fails when leadership fails. And leadership isn't forcing your ideas down someone's throat. That's not my way. But what I will do is challenge you to set aside our differences and work through our problems. You deserve leadership you can trust -- on education, rail, the environment and the economy. it won't be easy, but together, I know we can do it"

    HI GOV, Abercrombie, "Big Issues"

    8/6
SGT. BOBBY AGPAOA: "A lot of us went to war in Iraq with out the right armored equipment." LT COL. ROBERT SANDLA (RET.): "Over 5,000, just from Hawaii." COMBAT MEDIC ALLEN HOE: "Neil Abercrombie fought like hell to get our troops the gear they needed." COL. TOM FARRELL: "And he had to buck The Pentagon to do it. It wasn't easy." BRIG. GEN. MYRON DOBASHI (RET.): "Make no mistake, a lot of lives were saved." ANNCR: "And for his efforts, the National Guard Association honored Neil with their highest award. Neil Abercrombie takes on the big issues -- it's just the kind of leadership Hawaii needs right now"

HI GOV, Hannemann, "Eddie Flores Supports Mufi Hannemann"

    8/6
FLORES: "I've known Mufi when he was the director of DBET -- that was over 20 years ago. He knows how to create jobs, he understands business. I have no doubt he will move Hawaii economy forward. I'm in full support of Mufi Hannemann to be our next governor." ANNCR: "Mufi Hannemann, for all of us. Learn about Mufi Hannemann's economic action plan and how the economy will be job one from day one. For more information, visit votemufi.com"

    MN GOV, Dayton, "Tuesday"

    8/6
VARIOUS PEOPLE: "I'm a small business owner and I'm for Mark Dayton. I'm a police officer and I'm for Mark Dayton. I'm a teacher, and I'm for Mark Dayton. I'm a Teamster, and I'm for Mark Dayton too. We've paid taxes in Minnesota long enough. It's time the richest Minnesotans pay their fair share. It's the only way we'll fund our schools. It's the only way we'll get the state's deficit under control. This Tuesday, I'll be voting for Mark Dayton, I hope you do the same. Dayton (4X)." CHILDREN IN UNISON: "Dayton!" DAYTON: "This Tuesday, I'm asking for your support. Together, we'll build a better Minnesota"

    MN GOV, Dayton, "Jobs"

    7/28
ANNCR: "It's the teacher, the steel worker, the farmer, the small business owner who have suffered the most under Tim Pawlenty. Mark Dayton says it's time for a governor who will stand up for Minnesota's working people by investing in education, in job training, in the new industries of the future. It's time to put an end to the special tax breaks for the richest Minnesotans and start creating jobs by standing up for the people who are the backbone of Minnesota. Dayton, governor, for a better Minnesota"

    OH GOV, Strickland, "Pat" (radio)

    8/10
ANNCR: "Pat Spayde made automobile parts in Milan, Ohio for 23 years." SPAYDE: "We were doing good work here in Ohio and then I lost my job to outsourcing. It was those bad trade deals out of Washington that cost me my job. It was tough on my whole family. So when I heard that congressman John Kasich voted for all those trade deals that sent Ohio jobs overseas, I couldn't believe it. Back in Washington, Kasich voted for NAFTA and we just watched Ohio jobs go to Mexico. Then he voted for that special trade deal for China and we lost more jobs. Kasich even voted for tax breaks for corporations that ship American jobs overseas. And then Kasich moved to Wall Street and made millions working for Lehman Brothers and they financed corporations that ship more American jobs overseas. Now Kasich wants to be Governor? I don't think Ohio can trust a governor who outsourced American jobs." ANNCR: "Paid for by Strickland for Governor."

    Ad Watch: Who's the man?

The Colorado ad wars continue, this time with Americans for Job Security attacking Jane Norton; Kendrick Meek is out with his first ad in the Florida Senate race; the DGA hits Bill Brady in the Illinois gubernatorial race for his economic policies; and vehicular politics makes a comeback, although TN gubernatorial candidate Mike McWherter's ride is not a truck.

    AZ SEN, Hayworth, "McCain's Amnesty"
    7/22
SEN. JOHN MCCAIN (R): "I helped author with Senator Kennedy comprehensive immigration reform and fought for it twice." PRES. OBAMA: "I stood with Ted Kennedy and John McCain and took on this tough issue." ANNCR: "McCain's amnesty bill would cost 2.6 trillion dollars, rewarding illegal aliens with Social Security and Medicare benefits. Had enough? J.D. Hayworth led the fight against McCain's amnesty bill, wrote the book on securing our border and is endorsed by Sheriff Joe Arpaio." HAYWORTH : "I'm J.D. Hayworth and I approved this message"

CO SEN, anti-Norton (Americans for Job Security) "Talk is Cheap"
    7/26
ANNCR: Liberal politicians will say anything. But talk is cheap. Take Jane Norton. NORTON: The federal government is overspending, overtaxing, it's overregulating. ANNCR: Wait. What's the real Norton record? Norton pushed the largest tax hike in Colorado history. As a regulator, she managed a multi-million dollar surge in government spending. Yup, talk is cheap. But Jane Norton has cost us plenty. Tell Jane Norton: No more high taxes and spending.

FL SEN, Meek, "He's the Man"
    7/26
ANNCR: Check it out. Meet the real Jeff Greene. Ran for Congress as a California Republican. Moved to Florida two years ago. Became a billionaire on Wall Street betting middle-class families would lose their homes. Helped fuel the economic meltdown. Warren Buffett called Greene's scheme "financial weapons of mass destruction." GREENE: They'll attack me for my friends and my past when I was single. Some of it's true. But none of it matters. ANNCR: Betting on suffering does matter.

    NV SEN, Angle, "Please Stop"

    7/21
ANGLE: "Well, Harry Reid says he does more for Nevada; he's done more for unemployment. We were at 4.4%. Now we're at 14.4%. He's done more for the foreclosure rate. We have the highest foreclosure rate in the nation. He's done more for bankruptcy. We have the highest bankruptcy rate in the nation. Harry Reid has done more and it's time to say, 'Stop doing it. We can't stand anymore.' I'm Sharron Angle and I approve this message"

    NV SEN, anti-Angle, (Patriot Majority)

    7/23
ANNCR: "What do you think of Sharron Angle's ideas?" ANGLE (in clip): "As your U.S. Senator, I'm not in the business of creating jobs." MAN #1: "Oh, really?" MAN #2: "That's not her job, huh?" WOMAN #1: "If that's the case, whose job is it?" MAN #3: "What she doing for the people?" WOMAN #2: "I know so many people that are unemployed." MAN #4: "I don't know what she thinks her job is." MAN #5: "That doesn't make sense." WOMAN #3: "Everybody that's a politician in our state should help with people getting jobs." ANGLE (in audio clip): "That's not my job as a U.S. senator to bring industry to this state." WOMAN #1: "Sharron Angle's ideas are bad ideas"

CT GOV, Lamont, "Ted Kennedy, Jr.,"

    7/22
KENNEDY: "I'm Ted Kennedy Jr. I've lived in Connecticut for 25 years because I love this state. I've gone to college here, worked as an attorney here, and chosen to raise my family here. But what makes Connecticut so special to me are the people that I've met here. Two of those people are Annie and Ned Lamont. I've been lucky enough to become good friends with them, and I know they share the same values I believe in - the values of hard work and giving back. I admire the way Ned has worked to build his own business while still giving back to those less fortunate. Like being a national leader at Mercy Corps and improving education in distressed areas. I've seen Ned in action and I know Ned can bring people together from both parties to move Connecticut forward. I'm Ted Kennedy Jr. and I'm voting for Ned Lamont in the August 10th Democratic primary, and I hope you will too." LAMONT: "I'm Ned Lamont and I approve this message"

    CT GOV, Fedele, "Jobs?"

    7/22
MAN: "It was just a very good place to live, a good place to work, a good place to raise a family." WOMAN: "Tom Foley bankrupted the Bibb. We did not just lose our jobs, we lost our town." FOLEY CLIP: "The Bibb experience will make me a better governor." MAN: "I don't think Tom Foley should make $20 million dollars at the demise of somebody else losing their job." WOMAN: "I would not want him as governor." FEDELE: "I'm Mike Fedele, and I approve this message"

    CT GOV, Foley, "Vision,"

    7/22
FOLEY: "I'm Tom Foley. I believe in Connecticut. Our well-trained work force, excellent schools and our quality of life. We should be a leader in the new global economy. I have a detailed plan for bringing back jobs. I'll reduce the cost of state government and close the state budget deficit without raising taxes. When it's done we can be proud, not just of where we have been, but where we are going. Working together, we can fix Connecticut. I'm Tom Foley and I approve this message"

    GA GOV, Deal, "Why"
    7/22
NOAH: "Papa, why do you want to be governor?" DEAL: "'Cause grown-ups in Washington are just spending too much money. They're hurting us here at home." NOAH: "Really?" DEAL: "YES, and I want to fight back by giving more jobs and lower taxes so people can keep more of their money." ETHAN: "Why, Papa?" DEAL: "Ethan, because I love the people of the state of Georgia almost as much as I love you and Noah." ANNCR: "Pro-life. Real conservative. Real results"

    IA GOV, Culver, "Children"

    7/21
ANNCR: "How do you say no to the most vulnerable? Shortchange their future, choose corporate giants over Iowa children. Why did Terry Branstad oppose health care for Iowa's neediest children, and now wants to close preschools across the state? Branstad believes his corporate contributors deserve tax breaks more than our children deserve a doctor or a teacher. Terry Branstad -- cooked books, eight pay raises, a past we can't repeat"

    IA GOV, Bransted, "What Jobs?"

    7/23
Chet Culver's jobs plan... iJobs. Chet borrowed $900 to create jobs... but Chet can't tell us how many job... likely none. Now get this... Culver's I-Jobs will end up costing taxpayers $1.57 billion. $$ million every year... for 23 years! Nearly 114,000 Iowans out of work. Almost 20,000 new unemployed since I-Jobs started. Chet, $1.7 billion and no jobs to point to? Really?

IL GOV, anti-Brady (DGA - Stop Bill Brady), "The Same"

    7/26
ANNCR: People are asking. What kind of politician would side with insurance companies to oppose mammograms? And oppose the creation of family medical and maternity leave? It's the same Bill Brady who wants to give tax breaks to millionaires and the biggest corporations. But now says, we should roll back increases in the minimum wage. When it comes to protecting our pocketbooks, Bill Brady sides with the wealthy corporations while the rest of us need a governor on our side.

IL GOV, Brady, "Christmas in July and Pat Quinn is Santa"

    7/23
ANNCR: "It's Christmas in July and Pat Quinn thinks he's Santa Claus. His personal staff got raises, some as much as 20%. What did we get? We get the bill. A proposed 33% tax increase, courtesy of Pat Quinn. It's no wonder the Tribune calls Quinn 'downright clueless.' Families are suffering, and the last thing Illinois needs is Pat Quinn tossing our money around while we can't even pay our bills. Bill Brady, governor"

    MN GOV, Entenza, "Rip"

    7/23
KID 1: "I want to learn." TEACHER 1: "I want to teach about science." KID 2: "History." TEACHER 2: "How to think." KID 1: "Not just how to take tests." ANNCR: "George Bush's No Child Left Behind is hurting our kids. Tom Emmer supports Bush's failed policy and drastic cuts to education. Matt Entenza and Robyne Robinson's plan? Get rid of No Child Left Behind. Let teachers teach to every child's potential, not just a test. And they'll make sure decisions are made right here in Minnesota, not Washington. Let's make Minnesota great again"

    NM GOV, Martinez, "Jobs Plan"
    7/22
ANNCR: "As jobs were lost, Richardson/Denish wasted millions. Abused the state jet. Denish even spent federal stimulus funds on campaign Christmas cards. We need change, Susana Martinez." MARTINEZ: "Over 80% of all jobs are created by small businesses. And that's why my plan focuses on them. By ending corruption and eliminating wasteful spending, we can phase out job-killing taxes to help all small businesses grow. If we have the courage to make bold changes, we will turn New Mexico around"

    NV GOV, Reid, "Ask"

    7/22
ANNCR: How much lower can we go when Nevada's schools rank last in the nation? And Brian Sandoval cuts education by hundreds of millions more. What opportunities will we be denied when Sandoval's cuts force layoffs of one in five teachers. How overcrowded will our classrooms become when Sandoval raids the fund set aside for class size reduction. How can Nevada build a stronger economy if Brian Sandoval gets his way? Just ask yourself.

TN GOV, McWherter, "The Four Wheeler"
    7/25
ANNCR: "Imagine a governor more interested in fixing things than playing politics. Born and raised in rural Tennessee where he built a successful business and raised a family, he has a Tennessee First jobs plan that will cut taxes for businesses that create jobs here at home. He'll veto any proposed income tax and cut wasteful spending. He won't just fix his four-wheeler, he'll fix our economy." MCWHERTER: "Tennessee First. Tennessee Jobs. Let's roll up our sleeves and get to work"

Ad Watch: These boots were made for... ?

Colorado Republican Senate candidate Jane Norton went right up with an ad highlighting her opponent Ken Buck's statement involving high heels, cowboy boots and bull excrement; Linda McMahon wins over some Connecticut drivers; also in the Nutmeg State, don't call it a comeback -- Republican Senate candidate Rob Simmons might have a new ad out but he's been on the ballot the whole time; and like Norton, California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman uses her opponent Jerry Brown's words against him, in this case to make him sound unprepared for the governor's mansion.

    CO SEN, Norton "High Heels"

    7/22
NORTON: "I'm Jane Norton. I approved this message." ANNCR: "Ken Buck is attacking Jane Norton. What's he saying? You might be surprised. Here's Ken Buck caught on tape." BUCK CLIP: "Why should you vote for me? Because I do not wear high heels." ANNCR: "Play that again." BUCK: "Why should you vote for me? Because I do not wear high heels. I have cowboy boots. They have real bullsh** on them. That's Weld County bullsh**." ANNCR: "Now Ken Buck wants to go to Washington. He'd fit right in"

CT SEN, McMahon, "Cup of Tea"
    7/22
LINDA ON RADIO: I'm Linda McMahon. It's time for something different. WOMAN 1: So what do you think about Linda McMahon? WOMAN 2: Well, I like what she's saying. WOMAN 1: Well, what about the wrestling stuff? WOMAN 2: [laughs] well, not exactly my cup of tea. WOMAN 1: It's a soap opera. WOMAN 2: Really. WOMAN 1: Look, she trained the traveling show world of professional wrestling, turned it into a global company and created 500 jobs here in Connecticut. WOMAN 2: Alright. Think she can shake things up in Washington? WOMAN 1: Oh yeah. BOTH WOMEN: Ohhh, yeah.

    CT SEN, Simmons
    7/22
SIMMONS: "Today, it's important to vote with your heart and your head. Bailouts and tax increases have crippled the economy and cost us jobs. Small business is our backbone. Let's help them. National security must remain strong. Put your trust in the candidate who is and will be an advocate for veterans. These issues will have a lasting effect on our children. In the Republican primary on August tenth, you do have a choice. I'm Rob Simmons, I'm still on the ballot, and I approved this message."

NH SEN, anti-Binnie (Cornerstone Action PAC), "Shockingly Liberal"
    7/22
MAN: "Have you seen Bill Binnie's ads on tv? Or all those mailers? He seems like a very interesting candidate for US Senate." WOMAN: "I have, but did you know that his flashy ads are actually hiding his shockingly liberal positions on almost every issue?" MAN: Shockingly liberal? WOMAN: "Yes. Did you know Bill Binnie said that he might have voted for the $700 billion dollar bank bailout? And he's excited about New Hampshire's new gay marriage law." MAN: "Excited about gay marriage?" WOMAN: "He's actually described himself as being intellectually liberal." MAN: "And he's running as a Republican!" WOMAN: I know. He also opposes Arizona's new common sense law that cracks down on illegal immigration." MAN: "He is shockingly liberal. What else isn't he telling us?" WOMAN: Well, he supports key elements of President Obama's takeover of our health care system. And Bill Binnie has a history of donating money to Democrats like Massachusetts liberal Marty Meehan and Jeanne Shaheen! MAN: "Well, his ads make him seem like he's a conservative, but he really is shockingly liberal." ANNCR: "Paid for by Cornerstone Action"

    CA GOV, Whitman, "No Plan"
    7/22
ANNCR: Jobs leaving. A budget disaster. California on the brink. Jerry Brown's plan? BROWN: You run for office and your immediate assumption is, oh, I know what to do. You don't! I didn't have a plan for California. ANNCR: With our staste in crisis we need a governor with a plan. BROWN: We need a real plan as something I'll acknoweldge I did not have . ANNCR: Jerry Brown. No plan then, no plan now. Meg Whitman. A plan for jobs. Log on, learn more.

MI GOV, Tom George, "Citizen Legislator"
GEORGE: "I'm Dr. Tom George and I'm running for governor. Michigan deserves a governor who will reform our state health programs, the single biggest expense within our budget, freeing up resources to afford tax relief and investment in education and roads. With our hard working people and our bountiful natural resources, Michigan has a bright future. If we work together we can fix Michigan. Join my team at georgeforgovernor.com and let's fix Michigan"

OK GOV, Brogdon, "Back to the Basics"
    7/22
BROGDON: As governor, my goal is to lead Oklahoma to the restoration of her founding principles. Limited government. Personal responsibility. Expansion of freedom. Those are the principles that will give us a better future. I'm a man of faith, I'm a husband, and I'm a dad. Those are the priorities that give me a purpose in life. And my purpose is to lead this state back to the basics so we can have a brighter future.

TN GOV, Haslam, "Enough is Enough"

    7/22
If you've seen Zach Wamp's television commercials, or received his emails, you've been misled. About my record and his. I'm Bill Halsam. I'm trying to focuse on the issues in this campaign for governor. Enough's enough. Zach Wamp knows I support the second amendment. He knows that Knoxville, where I'm the mayor, has the lowest property tax in over 50 yeras. He's on record. Praising our family business as a good corporate citizen. He wants to talk about my money because he doesn't want to talk about what he's doing with yours. Spent his career in Washington. Broke his promise on term limits, and special interest contributions. Voted for billions in earmarks. Helped turn up the federal debt to record highs. Never met a payroll or balance a budget. That's not the kind of experience our next governor needs. I hope you'll listen to the facts, and ignore his attacks. Thank you. I'd be grateful for your support.

The problem with Meg Whitman's ads is that they are stretching the truth and down right lies. Anyone who cares to check with fact-check.org, a non-partisan group, they will find out that 90% of what Whitman claims about Brown are lies and the other 10% are stretches of the truth. Ad Watch: The Sheriffs

    AZ SEN, McCain, "Sheriffs"
    7/15
SHERIFF 1: We're sheriffs in Arizona. President Obama has made protecting our border incredibly difficult. But Arizona has a senator who has the courage and the character to stand up to a president who is wrong. John McCain. A president versus a senator. Doesn't seem like a fair fight. Unless that senator is John McCain. SHERIFF 2: Character matters.

    KS SEN, Moran, "Quotes"
    7/15
ANNCR: "Ugly." "Inexcusable." Newspapers are condemning Todd Tiahrt's nasty, negative campaign. "Tiahrt's swipes push the edge of decency." "Attacks Moran's family." "Inappropriate." "Slimy.' "Outright bizarre." "Downright revolting." "The mudslinging just got a bit muddier." Down in the polls. False attacks. Congressman Todd Tiahrt. Just another politician gone Washington.

NH SEN, Binnie, "Jail or Jobs"
    7/15
ANNCR: America is on the brink of bankruptcy. Wasteful spending and higher taxes got us here. New Hampshire has a choice. Kelly Ayotte, former Attorney General, knows how to put people in jail. Bill Binnie, successful businessman, knows how to put people in jobs and fix our economy. In these tough economic times, the choice is clear. Bill Binnie and jobs.

NV SEN, anti-Reid, (American Crossroads) "Really Harry Reprise"
    7/16
ANNCR: "It's bad enough that Nevada has the highest unemployment in the nation. And Harry Reid claims to be helping the job situation? Really, Harry? Recent data shows Nevada ranks 50th in the money received from Harry's stimulus bill. That's right, Senate leader Harry Reid has gotten his own state less help than every other state but one. Along with bailouts, deficits and Obamacare, that's what Harry Reid's done for Nevada. Really, Harry? That's not the kind of help Nevada needs"

CO GOV, McInnis, "A Jobs Governor" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn0Ru7G2DeY&feature=player_embedded
    7/14
MCINNIS: "Look what they've done. If you eat it, drink it, drive it, live in it, or even surf it, they've taxed it. No wonder we're losing jobs. This has got to stop. I'm Scott McInnis, and when I'm governor, it will." ANNCR: "Scott McInnis will open Colorado for business and create jobs." MCINNIS: "Here's the pen I'll use to veto every tax hike they send me, and get ready. I'm going to use it on spending too." ANNCR: "Cut spending, create jobs. For a Colorado that works, Scott McInnis. A jobs governor."

    GA GOV, Baker, "Hire,"

BAKER: Growing up we didn't have much money. But my mother gave me something worth a whole lot more. An abiding faith that God and hard work would always make tomorrow better than today. Right now, Georgia's in trouble. But we'll fix it. With a hundred thousand new jobs, more instruction time for our kids and schools as good as any in the whole world. Sounds like hard work? But that's what you hire a governor to do.

    OK GOV, Askins, "Ethics"
    7/14
ASKINS: "Now is the time for ethics reform. As governor, I'll demand politicians be prohibited from giving someone a state contract and then turning around and taking campaign contributions from them. It's as obvious as right and wrong"

OK GOV, Askins, "Cleaning Up Government"

    7/14
ASKINS: "Insider dealing, investigations, politicians working for themselves and not for you. As governor, I'll end business as usual. Cleaning up government isn't just about being tough, it's about being smart enough to make it happen" (youtube.com, 7/16).

Ad watch: Today's best of the rest

In today's batch of ads, political newcomers continue to slam entrenched incumbents, while Jerry Moran plays up his support of the Bush tax cuts.

SD HOUSE, Hereth Sandlin, “A Lot’s Changed”
    7/12
"[archival clip: I'm Stephanie Herseth and no political party has a monopoly on good ideas. It's why I'll always vote to do what's right for South Dakota.] That was six years ago when you first sent me to Congress and I'm as determined to be an independent voice for South Dakota today as I was then. It's why I voted against the bailouts and a trillion-dollar healthcare plan, but for expanding renewable energy and improving veterans benefits. I'm Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and I approve this message because a lot's changed since then, but not how I stand up for South Dakota."

AK SEN, “Joe Miller for U.S. Senate”

    7/14
I’m Joe Miller. And I’m running for U.S. Senate because we have little time to change the course of our nation. We face a leadership crisis in D.C. Our elected officials are spending us into oblivion. We owe a staggering 13 trillion dollars to our creditors. Future unfunded obligations may exceed a hundred trillion dollars. This is intolerable. The incumbent's gotta go. Join with me to shake up D.C. ANNCR: Vote Joe Miller for U.S. Senate.

    CO GOV, anti-Hickenlooper, “39,000”
    7/15
39 thousand Denver jobs lost under John Hickenlooper’s high tax policies. Frontier airlines, a hometown company, told Hickenlooper taxes were too high. But Hickenlooper stuck to his high-tax agenda, forcing Frontier to move 200 jobs to Wisconsin. 140 more to Indiana. Just part of Denver’s 39,000 jobs lost under John Hickenlooper’s job-killing policies. John Hickenlooper, Bill Ritter. Politicians of the same stripe, raising taxes and killing jobs.

    KS SEN, Moran, "No Interest"
    7/15
MORAN: I've worked hard to make sure farmers and ranchers in Kansas have success. I voted to reduce or eliminate capital gains taxes and estate taxes - I've been a supporter of the Bush tax cuts and almost everything President Obama has opposed, I have been against. I have no interest in giving terrorists constitutional rights in the United States. Have opposed bringing terrorists to the United States for any reason, and don't believe under the constitution have constitutional rights.

NV SEN, anti-Reid (New Leadership for America PAC), "Reid"
    7/15
ANNCR: Seen Harry Reid's latest TV ad? It's desperate, it's dirty, and worst of all, it's a lie. Sharron Angle won't phase out Social Security but she will end the way Congress raises Social Security to pay for their reckless spending. ANGLE: I want to save Medicare and Social Security. ANNCR: Sharron Angle will protect Social Security and Medicare so the government can't keep raiding it. So the next time you see Harry Reid's desperate negative ads, you'll know he's lying

NV SEN, Reid, “City Center: Sharron Angle Wouldn’t Have Fought to Save 22,000 NV Jobs”

    7/14
"[Reid voiceover] I'm Harry Reid and I approve this message. [voiceover] City Center was in trouble. It was so dire the company had purchased fencing to shutter the project. Then, Harry Reid called the banks and they made their loans. Reid saved 22,000 jobs, but Sharron Angle wouldn't have saved City Center. [audio clip of Angle on the Alan Stock Radio Show: Would you have saved City Center? Angle: No, I would not.] 22,000 jobs and she wouldn't have lifted a finger. [Angle clip: As your U.S. Senator, I'm not in the business of creating jobs.] Sharron Angle's just too extreme."

    WA SEN, Murray, "Never Forgotten"
    7/14
Her dad was a disabled veteran. She asked to be on the Veterans Committee. Patty Murray passed the New GI Bill. So I could go to college. She improved medical care for military families. And increased military pay. Senator Murray stopped the VA from closing three hospitals. She got new vets clinics. And expanded veterans services all across the state. Patty Murray has never forgotten us vets. MURRAY: I’m Patty Murray and I sponsored this ad to make sure our vets are treated right.

    WI SEN, Johnson, “Feingold Mud”
    7/14
28 years in politics and Russ Feingold’s stuck in the mud. Feingold started his campaign slinging mud at Ron Johnson. Ron Johnson opposes drilling in the Great Lakes, and Russ Feingold knows it. Drilling is already illegal in the Great Lakes, and Feingold knows that too. Because he voted against the law that protected our lakes. That’s right. Feingold was the only Great Lakes senator to vote no. Feingold played politics. Partisan politician Russ Feingold. Stuck in the mud.

    Ad watch: Work it

Republican Senate gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott's 527, "Let's Get to Work," is up with two ads slamming opponent Bill McCollum for being a career politician and a flip-flopper on conservative issues, while Colorado Senate candidate Jane Norton criticizes opponent Ken Buck for not being "man enough" to run ads not sponsored by a third party.

NH SEN, Binnie, "Back on Track"
    7/14
Bill Binnie has a plan to put America back to work. Cut taxes. Especially payroll taxes, encouraging small businesses to create jobs. Cut government spending. Stop the waste. Stop the bailout. Cut the deficit. Demand free trade from all countries including India and China. Bill Binnie will get our economy moving. And create jobs. Bill Binnie for Senate.

    CO GOV, Norton, "Backbone"

    7/14
Seen those TV ads attacking me? They're paid for by a shady interest group doing the bidding of Ken Buck. You'd think Ken'd be man enough to do it himself. Here's the truth. In state government, I cut budgets. Cut programs, and reduced staff. Ken Buck's office? His spending skyrocketed by 40 percent. We need a senator who's actually cut spending and has the backbone to stand her ground. I'm Jane Norton. I approve this message.

    CT GOV, Fedele, "Family"
    7/13
FEDELE: "My family immigrated to Connecticut because of the opportunities this country provided us. My dad dug ditches, my mom worked in the factory. They taught me the importance of hard work, integrity and family. Starting from nothing, I built the business and created hundreds of jobs. I know what it takes to cut spending, balance the budget, and provide the strong, conservative leadership that Connecticut needs." ANNCR: "Rooted in family, successful in business. Mike Fedele for governor." FEDELE: "I'm Mike Fedele, and I approve this message"

FL GOV, anti-McCollum, (Scott 527, Let's Get to Work) "Frequent Flyer"
    7/14
How's traffic on your drive home? For Bill McCollum, traffic is a breeze. Bill McCollum travels in class, on a chartered airplane you paid for. Newspapers say McCollum billed taxpayers 80 thousand dollars for air travel. Even for personal reasons. He diverted the state plane home 53 times. A state auditor called it "likely misuse of state resources." Career politician Bill McCollum. VOICE: You are now free to get rid of career politicians. Sponsored by Let's Get To Work.

FL GOV, anti-McCollum, (Scott 527, Let's Get to Work) "Copy Cat"
    7/13
ANNCR: "Bill McCollum seems to be having a real identity crisis. The Arizona immigration law? McCollum said it's 'far out' and won't happen here. Then he saw the polls, and did what politicians do. He flip-flopped to copy Rick Scott. Taxpayer funding for stem-cell research on human embryos? McCollum says he was all for it, causing right-to-life leaders to condemn him. Then he saw the polls, and did what politicians do. He flip-flopped to copy Scott. What will McCollum try next to copy Rick Scott? Sponsored by Let's Get To Work"

FL GOV, Scott, (radio) "Immigration Radio Ad"
    7/14
ANNCR: "And now Florida conservative commentary with Rick Scott, Republican for governor. This is Rick Scott. Today's topic, doing something about illegal immigration right now. Governor Crist has called a special session of legislature and of course, Florida taxpayers are on the hook to pay for it. So as long as we're paying them anyway, here's something that legislators should do. Bring the Arizona immigration law here to Florida. Now. Pass it in the special session. It was too much for a lot of liberals to read before they opposed it, but the Arizona law is just a few pages long. It's not complicated because it's just commonsense. If someone gets stopped for speeding, or arrested for robbery the police should be able to determine if they are here illegally. My suggestion to Tallahassee? Let's get to work, and bring the Arizona law to Florida now. Florida conservative commentary with Rick Scott. Political advertisement paid for and approved by Rick Scott, Republican for governor."

GA GOV, Johnson, "Just the Guy"
    7/14
I'm Eric Johnson. It's way past time for some straight talk. Barack Obama and the Democrats are out of control. But we can get it right here in Georgia. They raise taxes, I'll cut 'em and create jobs. They want to take over health care? I'll stop 'em. They say amnesty for illegal immigrants? I'll enforce the law, just like Arizona. You want a proven conservative for governor? I'm Eric Johnson, and I'm just the guy to do it.

GA GOV, Deal, "How Can We Trust Karen Handel On Anything?"
    7/13
ACTRESS: "Karen Handel is telling lies about Nathan Deal. But in her first campaign, Karen Handel supported gay partner benefits, and gay adoption. And in this campaign, she denies it. If we can't trust Karen Handel on gay partner benefits and gay adoption, how can we trust Karen Handel on anything?" DEAL: "I'm Nathan Deal, the pro-life conservative who'll crack down on illegal immigration. My convictions won't change with every election, 'cause I'm a man of my word"

    HI GOV, Hannemann, "Jeff Coehlo"
    7/11
COELHO: " I think one of the things that Mufi Hannemann will bring to the table as our governor is I think he could be the CEO of any large company in Hawaii. I mean this guy has the talent, he has the mindset, definitely has the education for it. He has the smarts, he has the experience -- these are the skills that we're going to need over the next few years. These are going to be challenging times for us in Hawaii, so yes, I think he'd make an excellent governor." ANNCR: "Mufi Hannemann for governor"

HI GOV, Hannemann, "Tony Guerrero for Mufi Hannemann"

    7/11
GUERRERO: "Mufi sometimes reminds me of Governor Ariyoshi -- 'cause he made tough decisions. Pono -- he did the the right thing. Mufi has the ability to be Pono -- to do the right thing. To make decisions that will not increase his popularity in the polls but will help the more punas in the future, and that's what I like about Mufi -- he takes care of the kids, he takes care of our future" ANNCR: "Mufi Hannemann for governor"

    HI GOV, Hannemann, "Convention Speech"

    6/11
HANNEMANN: "To truly understand why I want to be your governor, it is important to go back to my roots. It is important to go back to my values. It is important to go back to my parents. And through the years as they instilled in me a desire for public service by saying to me, 'Young man get as much education as possible and then use that education to help others.' I've been inspired. I've been motivated. I want to build upon the legacy of everyone who has contributed for the betterment of our home. The challenges are so enormous. And it is going to take all of us working together. Because the goal is to make Hawaii a better place, not just for some of us, not just for most of us, but for all of us." ANNCR: "Mufi Hannemann, standing tall for all of us."

    MI GOV, Bouchard, "Guess"

    7/14
Consider this. 22 states have a right-to-work law. And their unemployment is around 8%. Not Michigan's. Guess where our jobs are going. And our kids with them. To get a job, workers shouldn't be forced to join unions, or have money pulled from their paychecks to join political campaigns. It's driving businesses away. People want to work. Let's give them the right to work. You know, some people say Michigan's best days are behind us. Let's prove 'em wrong.

    MN GOV, Dayton, "Forged"

    7/14
    education/anti-incumbent
This is where the future is being forged. One student at a time. Giving our children the tools they need to succeed. Our workers the skills they need to compete. But Tim Pawlenty has cut education funding in Minnesota. Classrooms are overcrowded. Districts have gone to four day school weeks. Mark Dayton says it's wrong. As a former public school teacher, he knows education is the key to our economic future. As governor, Dayton will increase funding for education ever year. No excuses, no exceptions. Dayton for a better Minnesota.

    MN GOV, Dayton, "So Much"

    7/14
They've given us so much. Built businesses. Farmed the land. Raised our kids. Defended our nation. But Tim Pawlenty's cuts have hurt our seniors. Rising property taxes are driving them out of their homes. Mark Dayton has fought for seniors his entire career. Leading bus trips to Canada for cheaper prescription drugs. Opposing plans to privatize social security. Our seniors have done so much for us. Isn't it time for a governor who did more for them? Dayton for governor. For a better Minnesota.

TN GOV, Ramsay, "Draw the Line"

    7/14
ANNCR: "Washington refuses to secure our borders and now President Obama's filed suit to stop Arizona from enforcing immigration laws. Liberals want amnesty even though 10 percent of Tennesseans are out of work. It's time to draw the line and Ron Ramsey will. As governor, Ron Ramsey will require police to check the citizenship of everyone they arrest. If you want a governor who will stand up to President Obama, there's only one choice: Ron Ramsey. Conservative for governor" (Youtube, 7/12).

TN GOV, Haslam, "The Right Experience"
    7/14
Some people just move at a faster pace. Like the clock's a-tickin'. Bill Haslam's built a business. Thousands of jobs. Became mayor of Knoxville. Led the city out of tough times. He's a good man. Sets a course and sees it through. Bill Haslam has the right experience to lead our state out of tough times.

    WI GOV, anti-Barrett, (RGA)

    7/14
ANNCR: "Governor Jim Doyle (D) has called Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett 'a great champion,' and says Barrett has a strong record in Milwaukee. It's easy to see why Doyle thinks so. Since becoming Mayor, Barrett has raised Milwaukee taxes every single year and increased spending by $300 million dollars. And under Barrett, Milwaukee has seen dozens of businesses closed and thousands of jobs lost. Sound familiar? Tom Barrett. More taxes, less jobs. Like Jim Doyle, only worse"

Ad Watch: Greene keeps it in the family

Billionaire Florida Senate candidate Jeff Greene (D) is up with a new ad featuring his wife and newborn son, while both candidates in tomorrow's Alabama Republican gubernatorial runoff lament the negative ads that have run during the campaign, including those run by third party groups like the shadowy Conservative Coalition of Alabama.

    FL SEN, Greene, "Family"
    7/12
ANNCR: Jeff Greene's family moved to Florida 40 years ago with nothing. Today, he's raising his family here. GREENE: I've worked hard and had incredible success. I've lived the American dream. But I look into my baby's eyes and I think, am I willing to put his future in the hands of these mess of it. I'm Jeff Greene and I approve this message because our future is at stake.

    AL GOV, Byrne, "Values"
    7/10
ANNCR: "Bradley Byrne. Christian conservative. Family man. Values that will guide him as governor. Ending Montgomery corruption to protect taxpayers. Bradley Byrne's Moving Alabama Forward plan will create new jobs, crack down on illegal immigration, education reforms to empower parents and teachers. Alabama Republicans: stop entrenched special interests from stealing our primary. Protect our Republican values." CHYRON: "Endorsed by 17 Alabama Newspapers." ANNCR: "Vote Bradley Byrne. Conservative Governor"

AL GOV, Bentley, "It's Your Vote"
    7/10
BENTLEY: "Tired of all the negative ads? My opponent is attacking me but missing the real battle. We have serious problems in Alabama. I know how hard it is. I'll fight the federal government and put Alabama back to work. Five-thousand new jobs with tax cuts to businesses that hire. I'll clean up Montgomery and never profit from my office. I'll release my tax returns each year. And I'll not take a salary unless Alabama reaches full employment. I'm Dr. Robert Bentley and I need your vote for governor" (Youtube, 7/10).

    IA GOV, Bransted, "Exactly Right"
    7/12
ANNCR: "(Gov.) Chet Culver (D) likes to say unemployment was highest in state history when Terry Branstad took office. He's exactly right. And by the time Terry Branstad left, unemployment was the lowest in state history and Terry helped create nearly 300,000 new jobs. Chet Culver? Under him unemployment has nearly doubled to 6.8%, the highest in 24 years and Iowa has already lost more than 30,000 jobs. Iowa on Terry Branstad, or Iowa on Chet Culver? Any Questions?" (youtube.com, 7/12)

    MN GOV, Entenza, "New Direction"
    7/8
ANNCR: " Meet Sarah Palin's candidate for governor. (State Rep.) Tom Emmer (R). Endorsed by Palin. A Bush Republican who'll double down on failed Pawlenty policies. Devastating 30 percent budget cuts, education under threat. Emmer's more of the same. For a new direction -- Matt Entenza. He stood up to Pawlenty -- and won -- blocking deep education cuts. He'll scrap No Child Left Behind. Stop teaching to the test, so we can teach to every child's potential and make Minnesota great again" (youtube.com, 7/12).

NM GOV, Martinez, "Police Stand with Susana"
    7/9
ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SAFETY DIR. DARREN WHITE: "Diane Denish helped abolish the death penalty." EX-ALBUQUERQUE POLICE OFFICER'S ASSN PRES. PAUL PACHECO: "Even for cop killers." WHITE: "That's why we stand with Susana." RESERVE BERNALILLO CO. SHERIFF'S DEPUTY DANA KOURY: "Susana backs down to no one." RESERVE BERNALILLO CO. SHERIFF'S DEPUTY WAYNE SANTOS: "We're with Susana." NM FOP PRES. BOB MARTINEZ: "The FOP supports Susana." PACHECO: "New Mexico's Prosecutor of the Year." MARTINEZ: "Don't be fooled by the negative attacks. The old way won't work anymore. This election is a clear choice between more of the same or a positive agenda to end corruption, eliminate waste, and put people back to work. It's our state. Together, we'll take it back" (Youtube, 7/9).

    NM GOV, Denish, "Familia"

    7/8
    support
WOMAN: "I'm supporting Diane because I know that she has proven leadership in solving in solving our problems, starting with the economy, job creation, making sure that we have a great educational system for our kids." WOMAN 2: "Diane has the experience. She knows what it takes to improve our education so that we can compete and create jobs to keep the youth here when they do graduate from high school." WOMAN 3: "I'm with Diane Denish. She believes in children and education." WOMAN 4: "She is family. Es buena gente. And that's the difference."

NV GOV, Sandoval, "Ya Es Hora"
    7/9

OK GOV, Brogdon, "Mary Fallin Compromise"

    7/8
ANNCR: "In Oklahoma, we know our name is linked to our reputation. Mary Fallin says she loves our Oklahoma values, however, she regularly compromises those values. Fallin voted for the trillion dollar Wall Street bailout, she's accepted thousands in contributions from bailout beneficiaries. She's requested millions in pork from the Obama stimulus. Do you want Mary Fallin dealing away your values in liberal compromises? Then don't compromise your values when you vote for governor. Vote for Randy Brogdon"

OK GOV, Edmonson, "Just As Hard"

    7/12
ANNCR: He got Oklahoma 33 million dollars cracking down on Medicaid fraud. 2 billion dollars from the tobacco companies. But what Drew Edmonson is most proud of is getting Southwestern Bell to create a 30 million dollar trust fund for computers in Oklahoma's schools. EDMONSON: In tough fiscal times all this made a real difference. As governer I'll fight just as hard to increase teacher pay and prepare our kids for high tech jobs. ANNCR: Drew Edmonson. Tough enough to get it done.

    TN GOV, Haslam, "Protecting Jobs"
    7/12
HASLAM: Is illegal immigration really a problem in Tennessee? You better believe it is. With state unemployment at 10%, we're all paying the price for the federal government's failure to secure our borders. Arizona stepped up and passed a tough new law that addressed the unique challenges they face. And Tennessee should do the same. Protecting Tennessee jobs. That's what matters now.

Typical politician BS. You would think that politicians would come up with something new rather than the same old "I'll do this or that promises". I'll do this or I'll do that. Ad Watch: Nevada candidates spar on jobs

Sen. Harry Reid and his Republican challenger Sharron Angle both release ads accusing each other of being neglectful of Nevada's unemployment rates. And the RGA has a web ad ridiculing Democratic gubernatorial candidate (and Sen. Reid's son) Rory Reid's hesitation to use his last name in campaign ads. In Michigan, the Foundation for a Secure America accuses Republican gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Mike Cox of obstructing an investigation into events at a party held by former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. And tomorrow, the re-election campaign for Washington D.C. mayor, Adrien Fenty will air the first of several ads leading up to the September 14th primary.

And in Florida's 19th state district, state Senate candidate Mike Weinstein's musical tribute ad goes viral.

    DC Mayor, Fenty

WOMAN: Some people say Mayor Fenty is not delivering for people who live east of the Anacostia River. But I know different. He's rebulding Old Congress Heights School, it's been vacant for nearly 25 years. That's delivery. Mayor Fenty is different because he makes the hard decisions.

AZ Senate, Hayworth, "Mary Hayworth in J.D. Hayworth's First Campaign Advertisement"
    7/6
    M. HAYWORTH: "Tired of (Sen.) John McCain's (R) negative ads? So am I. I'm Mary Hayworth and John McCain is hiding his record behind false attacks on my husband. John McCain has sold out the people of Arizona on immigration, bailouts, and tax increases. Now John McCain has embraced character assassination to keep his job. John McCain should be ashamed. J.D.'s not perfect, but he is a principled conservative." J. HAYWORTH: "I'm J.D. Hayworth, and I approved this message"

CO SEN, Bennet, "Challenging the Old Ways"

    7/5
ANNCR: "While others learned to read, you struggled to make sense of the page. And while others moved ahead, you stayed back. But in the end, you persevered. You fell in love with Susan, and the West. You became a leader in business, saving jobs and fixing companies. To help kids, you challenged the old way of doing things. And now you're asked to serve, so you set out to fix a broken Washington. For Colorado." BENNET: "I'm Michael Bennet, and I approve this message."

    CT SEN, McMahon, "Whiteboard"
    7/7
MCMAHON: "The career politicians have been busy. Working on all the wrong thing. Leaping from issue to issue without tackling the most important one: jobs. Politicians have had their chance and blown it. It's time to put Connecticut back to work. My detailed jobs plan is ready to go, and it's backed up by experience. I'm Linda McMahon. I approve this message because we have to concentrate on the one issue that really matters"

    FL SEN, Greene, "One Million"

    7/7
ANNCR: "One million Floridians are out of work -- and only one candidate for US Senate is a successful businessman who knows how to create jobs. Jeff Greene's plan to create lasting private sector jobs throughout Florida: Invest to make Florida the worldwide leader in clean energy, tax breaks for small business to hire new workers, and stop tax breaks for companies shipping our jobs overseas. Jeff Greene. No special interest money - just jobs and results for Florida. GREENE: "I'm Jeff Greene, and I approved this message"

    IL SEN, Kirk, "Released" (radio)

    7/7
ANNCR: "Alexi Giannoulias just released his taxes. The Tribune headline said quote 'Wealthy Giannoulias paid no taxes last year.' Endquote. Fox Chicago reported that Alexi is worth at least seven million dollars, but paid no taxes. How? Alexi's Broadway Bank collapsed from risky loans and loans to convicted mobsters. Alexi just deducted the money he lost on his tax return. Bingo. Pay no taxes, and the government's FDIC pays Broadway's $394 million dollar loss. But while Alexi pays no taxes, he thinks you don't pay enough taxes. Alexi wants higher federal income taxes, higher state income taxes, and higher energy taxes. Listen to Alexi:" GIANNOULIAS CLIP: "I have said from day one, as your state treasurer, that while politically it's not the smartest thing to say, we need an income tax increase." ANNCR: "Higher taxes for you. No taxes for Alexi Giannoulias." KIRK: "I'm Mark Kirk and I approved this message." ANNCR: "Paid for by Kirk for Senate. KirkforSenate.com"

    KS SEN, Tiahrt, "Stand Tall"

    7/7
TIAHRT: "Here in Kansas we're taught to stand up for what we believe. Yet where my opponent and I stand is very different. He votes to raise taxes and I will do everything I can to cut them. He votes to give terrorists constitutional rights. I believe terrorists deserve no rights. And where he saw promise in Pelosi taking over Washington. I saw nothing but trouble and said so. I'm Todd Tiahrt candidate for US Senate and I approve this message.Because if you and I don't stand up.who will?"

NV SEN, Reid, "Sharron Angle Wouldn't Fight for Nevada Jobs"
    7/8
GARLAND WELCH, CARPENTER: You felt lucky, working on a job like this. But when Wall Street greed crashed the economy, everything stopped. Sharron Angle says it's not a Senator's job to fight for jobs. That we're on our own. ANGLE: People ask me what are you going to do to develop jobs in your state? Well that's not my job as a U.S. Senator. WELCH: Not her job? ANGLE: I am not in the business of creating jobs. To me it seems like the only job Sharron Angle wants to fight for is hers.

    NV SEN, Angle, "Now"
    7/8
TEXT: When Harry Reid became Senate Majority Leader unemployment was only 4.4%. Now, [headlines] "Nevada unemployment hits 14%, leads nation." "Nevada is tops in unemployment." "Unemployment falls in 37 states - rises in Nevada." "Nevada overtakes Michigan for nation's worst." "Nevada's jobless rate continues to rise... as most states have seen unemployment declines." "Nevada takes dubious jobless title from Michigan." "In just three years, Nevada's economy has fallen from one of the strongest performing to possibly the weakest." ANNCR: "Seen Harry Reid's latest TV ad? It's desperate, it's dirty and most of all, it's a lie. Sharron Angle doesn't want to 'phase out' Social Security. She wants to phase out the way Harry Reid and Congress raid Social Security for their reckless spending." ANGLE (in a clip): "He has been raiding Social Security and what we need to do is personalize Social Security and Medicare so that the government can no longer raid it." ANNCR: "Sharron Angle will protect Social Security. The next time you see Harry Reid's negative ads, you'll know he's lying. And that's the truth"

    WI SEN, Johnson, "Tipping Point"

    7/6
JOHNSON: "This 234 year-old experiment that we call America, it is something incredibly precious, and it is being squandered through unsustainable debt, unsustainable spending -- and my concern is we have reached that tipping point. And if we don't pull back from that tipping point we are going to lose the idea and the promise of America. We are committing inter-generational theft, and it is immoral. One thing I can guarantee if I go to Washington, I am going there to fix these problems. I'm Ron Johnson, I'm running for Senate, and I approve this message"

MI GOV, anti-Cox (Foundation for a Secure and Prosperous America), "Mike Cox and Kwame Kilpatrick"

    7/7
ANNCR: "You've heard about the party at former Mayor Kilpatrick's residence. It's the party that Attorney General Mike Cox said never happened. But a former Detroit police officer said she dispatched several cars to the scene that night. Funny. The next day, tapes of the dispatch calls were missing. And Mike Cox? He stopped his investigation and never issued the subpoenas requested by the Michigan state police. They wanted to talk to Mayor Kilpatrick and his wife, but because Cox shut down the investigation and refused to issue subpoenas, they could not get witnesses to cooperate nor medical records for an exotic dancer who was allegedly beaten after dancing at the party that evening. That woman, Tamara Greene, was later murdered. Call Mike Cox and ask why he refused to give Michigan state police the subpoenas they requested to investigate. His number is 517-373-1110. It's not too late. It's still an open case.

NV GOV, anti-Reid (RGA), "Rory Reid's Name Used in an Ad?

    WY GOV, Meyer, "Determined"

    7/8
ANNCR: "Rita Meyer. She grew up poor, but persevered and earned two degrees at UW. She ran a successful business, spent 23 years in the Wyoming Air Guard, served in Iraq, commanded a unit in Afghanistan and retired a full Colonel. Now, she's our state auditor, managing the state budget and running a tight ship. Rita Meyer -- she's defended our freedoms and earned our trust. Good experience to be our next governor. Rita Meyer"

    Intensity and the 'Combat Bible'

Two priceless ads out of Missouri we didn't mention yesterday, but thought we'd get up today. Do you think they should crack our top 10? Thoughts? (Hat tip: Politico's Martin.)

This one is for state senate... Was this ad made by Linda McMahon?

What exactly is a "Combat Bible"? This is for MO-8.

Here's how St. Louis Today's Political Fix blog sums it up: "Sowers taught at West Point and served in the Army special forces -- and the "combat bible" he says he brought with him in the field. ... The ad hits a lot of key notes for a rookie candidate running to unseat a longtime incumbent in a Republican district: It's no accident that Sowers, a Democrat, recites the phrase 'new blood' twice in the 30-second ad -- but does not mention his partisan affiliation once."

(By the way, does Cillizza, Blake, Sonmez and WaPo know this other "Fix" blog exists?)

    Ad Watch: Gun Control

In his new campaign ad for Alabama agricultural commissioner, Republican John McMillan takes a markedly different approach from his first ad, which featured the gun-toting, tough-talking viral phenom Dale Peterson. In the new commercial, McMillan appears in controlled settings, like a laboratory and a business meeting, with nary a gun in sight.

Like Rep. Roy Blunt's ad, in which the Republican Senate hopeful touts his teaching career and features foreboding images of Capitol Hill -- while neglecting to mention his 7 terms in Congress -- Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D), also running for Senate, says only that he was a sheriff for 25 years and criticizes what they do "out in Washington."

Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold (D) has a new radio ad playing up his opposition to the TARP fund as evidence he will continue to be an "independent voice" for his constituents, and Sen. Harry Reid (D) also has a new TV ad using a new VA hospital being built in Nevada to further his campaign slogan: "No One Can Do More."

AL Ag Commish, McMillan, "Has What it Takes"
    7/5
ANNCR: The job of commissioner of agriculture and industries is not just about farming. There's a lot more to it than people think. A budget of almost $40 million and over 500 employees. And the commissioner is responsible for making sure we have clean drinking water and a safe food supply. And that's no small job. In other words, our next Commissioner should be as at home working with scientists as he is on a tractor and as comfortable in a business meeting as his own front porch. There's only one man perfect for the job. John McMillan. Republican for commissioner.

    AZ SEN, McCain, "Buyer Beware"
    7/4
ANNCR: "When word got out that (ex-Rep.) J.D. Hayworth (R) starred in an infomercial for a shady company promoting free government money, Hayworth's response was..." HAYWORTH: "Yeah, I appeared in this. One of the staples I learned growing up is caveat emptor -- buyer beware." HAYWORTH: "Buyer beware, buyer beware." ANNCR: "J.D. Hayworth. Pork barrel spender. Lobbyist. Huckster. Voter beware." MCCAIN: "I'm John McCain and I approved this message"

AZ SEN, McCain, "Buyer Beware -- Tuscon"
    7/4
ANNCR: "J.D. Hayworth was paid to star in an infomercial promising free government money. It was a scam. News 4 in Tucson said the information they were trying to sell was available for free, and that the so-called free seminars often cost thousands to attend. J.D. Hayworth. Pork barrel spender. Lobbyist. Huckster"

    IN SEN, Ellsworth, "At Stake"

    7/6
ELLSWORTH: One thing that 25 years as a sherriff teaches you is zero tolerance for bull. There's too much at stake. But out in Washington it's like they live and breathe the stuff. They waste our money. They take care of special interests. And they don't care if lobbyists write the laws. Or if our jobs get shipped overseas. I'm Brad Ellsworth. And I approve this message because the special interests and lobbyists already have enough senators on their side.

MO SEN, Blunt, "Education and Hard Work"
    7/5
I'm Roy Blunt. My mom and dad were dairy farmers. My grandmothers were one-room schoolteachers. I became the first one from my family to graduate from college. I became a high school teacher and later a university president. I was taught there was nothing you couldn't achieve through education and hard work. But now, that America's threatened. Irresponsible spending and crippling debt are killing jobs today and our children's future tomorrow. That's wrong and I'll fight to change it. I'm Roy Blunt and I approve this message.

OH SEN, Portman, "Job Killer Energy Tax"
    7/5
PORTMAN: There's a new energy tax coming our way from Washington that's a jobs killer in Ohio, called cap and trade. For a tax turning on a light, using our computer, or even cooking dinner. And our factories are hit particularly hard. It could cost Ohio a hundred thousand jobs we cannot afford to lose. There's a better way to have a cleaner environment, stop our dependence on foreign oil, and add jobs. Learn more about it, in the Portman plan for jobs, at RobPortman.com.

WI SEN, Feingold, "Penny Pincher" (radio)
    7/6
Hi this is Russ Feingold. The people of Wisconsin want someone working hard for them. Not the special interests in Washington. So that's what I've done. I listened to you and opposed bailouts and bonuses for the big banks on Wall Street. Now that doesn't win me a lot of friends in Washington, but neither does my fight to stop pay raises for Congress. In Wisconsin, we don't spend money we don't have. We pinch our pennies. That's how we do things here. And Washington needs to learn that lesson. That's why I will continue to be an independent voice, who's tough on government spending and will stand up to both political parties. My Control Spending Now plan will cut wasteful and worthless Washington spending, and enact real reforms to rein in Congress. Maybe I won't make a lot of new friends. But at least you'll have one fighting for you and future generations. I'm Russ Feingold and I approve this message because we need to move forward together.

NV SEN, Reid, "Sen. Harry Reid Works Tirelessly for Nevada Veterans"
    7/1
JOHNSTON: "When I was in Vietnam, Agent Orange really messed me up. No VA hospital in Vegas can treat me. I have to travel to San Diego." On screen text: "Harry Reid's getting a new VA hospital built in Nevada." JOHNSTON: "It's hard." On screen text: "Soon 63,000 vets can get treated in Nevada. Not California." JOHNSTON: "The VA hospital's being built for one reason: Harry Reid." REID: "I'm Harry Reid and I approve this message"

AL GOV, Byrne, "Republicans Speak Out"

    7/5
WOMAN 1: "We don't support AEA and the Democrats, and they support Robert Bentley." MAN 1: "AEA and Democrat bosses are trying to steal our Republican primary." MAN 2: "They're for Bentley." WOMAN 2: "AEA is attacking Bradley Byrne for him." MAN 3: "That's why they've spent millions of dollars to try and destroy his reputation." MAN 2: "Robert Bentley sure does not act like a Republican." WOMAN 1: "He took $10,000 of their money." MAN 4: "That doesn't sound conservative to me." WOMAN 1: "He turned a blind eye to AEA double dipping." MAN 2: "And that bothers me." MAN 4: "Alabama needs a leader. Bentley isn't. I'm voting Byrne"

    AL GOV, Byrne, "Fight Back"
    7/2
RILEY: "We don't support gambling. We do not support the AEA. We don't want them in our primary. And we don't want anyone that wants them in our primary." ANNCR: "Gov. Riley's right. AEA bosses and Democrats in the Republican primary, attacking Bradley Byrne for Robert Bentley. Bentley says no negative ads while AEA attacks Bradley Byrne. Bentley refused to fight AEA double-dipping, pushed a $100,000 tax increase supported by AEA. AEA Democrats stealing our primary. Fight back. Vote Bradley Byrne

AL GOV, Bentley, "Own Two Feet"
    7/2
BENTLEY: "Growing up in Shelby County, I learned to stand on my own two feet. I'm not from a political family. I'm not backed by powerful interests. I've served my country and my state and my patients with honesty and integrity. I wouldn't leave my patients and give up a third of my time and pay to serve as a legislator to have special interests tell me what to do. The only special interests I'll ever serve is you, the people of Alabama." ANNCR: "Robert Bentley for governor. Principled, conservative leadership" (Youtube, 7/2).

MN GOV, anti-Emmer (Alliance for a better Minnesota), "Failed"
    7/6
ANNCR: Ordinary Minnesotans are facing tough times. We need a leader who will fight for us. But Tom Emmer sided with Governor Pawlenty and opposed a plan that would force corporations and CEOs to pay their fair share of taxes. The Emmer/Pawlenty plan created a huge deficit, and cut things Minnesotans rely on. They cut education, job training, and health care. Making it harder to get our economy back on track. Minnesotans can't afford another four years of Tim Pawlenty and Tom Emmer's failed agenda.

    NY GOV, Lazio, "Problems," (web)
    7/4
TEXT: How big are New York's problems? NY unemployment rate 8.8%. New York State's three year projected deficit is greater than the GDP of 103 countries. FY 2011 projected deficit: $9.2 billion. $9.2 billion would purchase 468,790 Ford Fusions. When placed bumper to bumper, would stretch from Buffalo to Albany... almost 5 times. $1.2 billion tax increase for 2010. $1.2 billion could pay for the average salary, $47,610, of 25,405 New Yorkers. New York deserves better. Rick Lazio. New ideas. New leadership.

    OR GOV, Dudley, "Drive,"
    7/5
DUDLEY: We need somebody who comes from the outside to change what is wrong with our government. ANNCR: Working his way through Yale. A leader of the NBA players' union. Starting a foundation to help kids overcome diabetes. GERALD GRAVES, BUSINESS ASSOCIATE: Chris has an amazing drive and focus. He has an amazing sort of intellectual curiosity. BILLY HUNTER, PRESIDENT, NBA PLAYERS UNION: The guy was always hard working, just tenacious, dogged, highly respected. RON KLEMPNER, NBA PLAYERS UNION COUNSEL: He knew how to approach people in order to bridge whatever differences that they had. DUDLEY: I'm ready to lead our comeback.

TN GOV, Haslam, "Leading in Difficult Times"
    7/5
HASLAM: "What's the best way to prepare for being a governor in tough times? Running a business in tough times. Leading a city in tough times. Developing a conservative budget and then living within your means. I've done that, time and time again. We can do it in Tennessee. Someone in charge who's been in charge before. That's what matters now"

    7/1
UNCLE SAM: MMM Yum. ANNCR: The federal government is taking over everything. Devouring everything in its sight. We've seen it feast on businesses, kid's college loan programs and our personal health choices. BENDER: I'm Jim Bender. Running for U.S. Senate. And I'll put our government on a strict diet. I'll see that he's finished fattening up on your hard-earned dollars. We know that as independent Granite Staters, we don't want the government running everything. UNCLE SAM: Yum. Chevy. BENDER: I'm Jim Bender and I approve this message.

    GA GOV, Johnson, "Enough"
    7/1
JOHNSON: "I'm Eric Johnson. Think you're paying enough in taxes? I have a record of cutting taxes and making sure politicians pay theirs. Now I say it's time to cut taxes on small businesses. how about reform that stops punishing hard work and starts to reward it? And we need to make it harder for the legislature to ever raise your taxes again. We'll lower taxes. That's the key to putting Georgia back to work and I'm just the guy to do it." ANNCR: "Eric Johnson. Republican for Governor. Let's put Georgia back to work"

NH SEN, Binnie, "Back on Track"
    6/30
ANNCR: "Bill Binnie has a plan to put America back to work. Cut taxes, especially payroll taxes; encouraging small businesses to create jobs, cut government spending, stop the waste, stop the bailouts, cut the deficit, demand free trade from all countries, including India and China. Bill Binnie will get our economy moving and create jobs. Bill Binnie for Senate." BINNIE: "I'm Bill Binnie and I approved this message"

When a fellow officer was attacked by Kwame Kilpatrick, Mike Cox prosecuted him and sent him to jail. Now, political thugs attack Mike Cox. Don't beleive it. Mike Cox is a leader in integrity who has been sending criminals and politicians to jail since 1990. Mike Cox: Tough enough to lead Michigan"

MI GOV, Cox, "Prosecutor: Max Bandy"

Today, I'm protecting my colleague, Attorney General Mike Cox. who's being falsely attacked by political thugs. Don't believe them. Mike Cox is a tough Marine and a by-the-book prosecutor. Time Magazine said 'Brown honored his pledge to hold the line on taxes...'" MALE: "Even as he built up the largest budget surplus in California history. Long before it was popular, Brown took on Big Oil to expand renewable energy - and bring in good paying jobs." FEMALE: "As Attorney General, Brown cracked down on mortgage fraud. He protected consumers from credit card companies, and went after nursing home who abused seniors." MALE: "It's easy to talk about balancing the budget or fighting for working people." Ad Watch: Giannoulias hits back

A day after Rep. Mark Kirk released two attack ads meant to deflect criticism from his own mistakes to his opponent's history at his family's failed bank, Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias is up with a new ad compiling some of the misstatements Kirk wants voters to forget about.

IL SEN, Giannoulias, "On and On"
    6/30
REPORTER: Mark Kirk is caught in a lie. KIRK: I was the Navy's Intelligence Officer of the Year. REPORTER:S He claimed a military award he actually never won. Congressman Mark Kirk's explaining a second false claim where what he said about his military record did not match what actually happened. KIRK: The last time I was in Iraq I was in uniform and the Iraqi air defense network was shooting at us. REPORTERS: Not exactly. In fact there's no record of that attack. He has said that he had served in Iraq. KIRK: I served in Iraq and Afghanistan. REPORTER: Kirk's claim he fought in the first Iraq war was not true. Still more questions tonight about Congressman Mark Kirk's military record. KIRK: I command the war room at the Pentagon. REPORTERS: Kirk does serve in the Pentagon's alert center, but does not command it. He did violate Pentagon rules; twice, actually, for improperly mingling politics with his military service. We're starting to see one lie after another, after another. What is it that makes people think that they can get away with lying about their record?

    IL SEN, Kirk, "Risky"
    6/29
Alexi Giannoulias is only thirty four years old. But what a 34 years it's been! At his father's bank Alexi made tens of millions of risky loans to convicted mobsters. Then the bank collapsed. As treasurer, he made risky investments that cost families 73 million in lost college savings. Now running for Senate, Alexi supports higher taxes to fund billions more in spending. Alexi Giannoulias. Trust him with your money?

    IL SEN, Kirk, "Stand"
    6/29
America's biggest environmental disaster. Where do the candidates stand? Mark Kirk won praise for helping stop BP when it tried to pollute Lake Michigan. The Chicago Sun-Times wrote, Kirk quote, fought hard to stop BP from dumping more waste into the lake. In contrast, Alexi Giannoulias's top aide was a longtime BP lobbyist. And now Alexi says higher energy taxes are on the table. Kirk and Giannoulias. Big differences on the environment and taxes.

DNC, anti-Boehner (web) "Ants? Really, John Boehner?"
    6/29
ANNCR: This week John Boehner compared Wall Street reform to killing an ant with a nuclear weapon. Congressman Boehner, this is a bunch of ants. FOX: The economy is in crisis. ANNCR: This is the 2008 financial crisis. MSNBC: Money, jobs, even major businesses all evaporating because of worries of a financial crisis. CNN: Markets have frozen up. ABC: There's talk of a collapse, a crash, maybe even another Great Depression. SHELBY: We're now facing the most serious economic crisis, as Chairman Dodd said, in a generation. Congressman Boehner, any questions?

    VA-5, Periello, "New Jobs"

    6/29
PERIELLO: I know times have been tough for Virginia families. That's why I'm so serious about jobs and economic relief for you. And while producing results back on Main Street, I've been fighting hard to bring Main Street values to Washington. Fought to add new jobs at dairy farms. And landfill projects that turn methane waste into clean energy. While I strongly opposed the big bank bailouts, we've added jobs, bringing broadband internet to over 120 public schools, while closing the tax loopholes rewarding companies for sending our jobs overseas. We've also added jobs to construct new park trails. And protect jobs here, in law enforcement. While providing economic relief in the form of tax cuts to 98% of Virginia families. We've added construction jobs to rebuild roads and bridges. While making health care more affordable and secure for our seniors and small business owners. And added more jobs to weatherize local homes. All this without taking a single dollar from federal lobbyists for my campaign. I'm Tom Periello and I support this message because I guarantee that no one will work harder to bring jobs to Virginia.

    MN GOV, Dayton, "Fair Share"
    6/29
Tim Pawlenty has protected tax loopholes for the richest Minnesotans while cutting education funding for our children. Mark Dayton says it's wrong. DAYTON: We're gonna make the rich pay their fair share in taxes. If the richest Minnesotans paid the same percent of their income in state and local taxes as everybody else that would be over 4 billion dollars in additional revenue. That would go a long way to solving our deficit. Being able to fund our schools, being able to reduce class sizes, if the rich can afford to pay their fair share they should pay their fair share and if I'm governor they will pay their fair share.

Dayton, "A Government as Good as Our People"
    6/29
Mark Dayton will close the tax loophole for the rich. DAYTON: The richest Minnesotans can avoid paying their fair share in taxes, that will change when I'm governor. MAN: Same old story, it's nothing new. It'd be great to see that happen. DAYTON: I'm gonna take that money and invest it in our schools, make the better quality education for young people, for college students, for families who can't afford tuitions. I'm going to make the richest Minnesotans pay their fair share in taxes so you pay less taxes. ANNCR: Isn't it time to have a government that's as good as our people? WOMAN: That's what we need. Dayton. Governor. For a better Minnesota.

League of Conservation Voters, SEIU, Sierra Club and VoteVets Action fund, "Front Line"
    6/29
KEVIN JOHNSON: In Iraq, my batallion helped protect oil supplies from insurgent attack. Today, I'm helping to put up wind farms across America. This year, thousands of soldiers will return home. Looking to get on with their lives. Senator Claire McCaskill is making that a little bit easier. Voting to hold oil companies accountable and creating thousands of clean energy jobs across Missouri. Thank Senator McCaskill and tell her to keep fighting for a clean energy climate plan and the Missouri jobs that come with it.

League of Conservation Voters, SEIU, Sierra Club and VoteVets Action fund, "Clean Up"

WORKER: We pulled one out of the water this morning. Completely covered in oil. Name's Senator Richard Burr. ANNCR: Sen. Burr's record is a little... oily. Big oil has showered him with hundreds of thousands of campaign cash. And when it came time to hold polluters accountable, Sen. Burr voted no. WORKER: We're trying our best out here. But until he supports clean energy climate legislation, I don't think we can save him.

    AZ-3, Gorman
    6/27
This year a lot of folks think this is our best shot at changing Congress. Of course, that all depends on the caliber of our candidates. [Gorman shooting] Meet Pamela Gorman. Candidate for Congress in Arizona 3. Conservative Christian. And a pretty fair shot. The insiders in the state Senate wanted to have her hide when she fought against their plan for higher taxes. But Gorman? She can take care of herself. Rated 100% by the NRA. Conservative Pamela Gorman is always right on target.

    CT GOV, Lamont, "Independent"
    6/27
LAMONT: "We made a difference." ANNCR: "He took on the political establishment. Republicans and Democrats alike, to bring about real change. Ned Lamont. Now, he's running for governor because we need an independent voice to shake things up in Hartford and do what's needed to help Connecticut families. Create jobs and get our economy back on track." LAMONT: "For decades, the politicians have been throwing money at big businesses. They've gotten richer, but we have little to show for it." ANNCR: "Ned Lamont's plan? Eliminate no-bid contracts, stop the pay-to-play system, end corporate giveaways and help small businesses to hire more employees." LAMONT: "What you want to do is go up to Hartford and be your own man, be independent with no strings attached and that's one of the promises I'm making to the people of Connecticut. I'm going to be nobody's man but yours." ANNCR: "Ned Lamont. Independent. The best experience to take on the career politicians in Hartford." LAMONT: "I'm Ned Lamont and I approve this message."

CA GOV, anti-Whitman (CA Working Families), "World"

    6/25
ANNCR: "Whitman says she'll run California like her company, but is that what we need? As CEO, Whitman hid her profits offshore to avoid paying taxes. She ranked second among CEOs for personal use of corporate jets. That's Whitman's world. And her plan for California? Tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, but nothing for the middle class. And our schools? 'They can do more with less.' Tell Whitman, in the world we live in, her plan won't fly"

NV SEN, anti-Reid, (American Crossroads) "Really"

    6/27
ANNCR: "Harry Reid says, 'No one can do more' than he can. Really, Harry?" REID (in a clip from the Senate floor): "Today is a big day in America. Only 36,000 people lost their jobs today, which is really good." ANNCR: "Really, Harry? No wonder Nevada now has the highest unemployment in the nation. Bailouts. Deficits. ObamaCare. No one can do more? Really, Harry? For Nevadans, haven't you done enough?" (release, 6/29).

CO SEN, Norton, "Fit Right In"

    6/29
    negative
ANNCR: "Have you ever heard of Ken Buck? Better find out. Ken Buck's a government lawyer running for Senate. A government lawyer who doesn't follow the rules. As a lawyer in Bill Clinton's administration, Ken Buck was investigated for ethics violations, improperly undermining the prosecution of pawn shop owner Gregory Golyansky. Buck's unethical conduct earned him a reprimand from U.S. Attorney John Suthers. In official documents, Suthers said Buck had shown a 'reckless disregard' for his obligations as a prosecutor. Suthers made Ken Buck take ethics classes, and Buck left office under a cloud. You can read all about Ken Buck's scandal in the Denver Post. Now, Ken Buck is running for Senate. Washington is already full of politicians who need ethics courses. Ken Buck: he'd fit right in." NORTON: "I'm Jane Norton, running for Senate. I approve this message." ANNCR: "Paid for by Jane Norton for Colorado."
