Vitter will run for Louisiana gov

Republican Sen. David Vitter will run for governor of Louisiana in 2015.

In a video announcing his widely-expected decision to enter the race to succeed Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is term-limited, Vitter says he’ll keep “listening directly to Louisiana families” as he ramps up his campaign.

“This decision will in no way limit the critical work I am doing today in the U.S. Senate. Representing you and your family will continue to be my top priority,” he said. “But I believe that as our next governor, I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities we face in Louisiana.”

Vitter remains popular in the state, where he easily won re-election in 2010 despite being linked to a high-profile prostitution case in Washington D.C.
