Democrats across the country have embraced state Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Texas, and her filibuster against anti-abortion legislation in the Lone Star State.
And that includes two prominent national Democratic groups -- President Obama's Organizing for Action and the Democratic Governors Association.
In an Organizing for Action blog post -- entitled "Standing for women in Texas" -- Obama's old campaign organization writes:
This was not just a win for Texas. Senator Davis' filibuster captured the nation and catapulted women's rights into the spotlight once again. The lesson? When we speak up with one voice on the issues that really matter, nothing can stop us.
OFA adds that its supporters rallied to the state Capitol and were on hand to cheer on Davis, though it doesn't specify how many attended.
In addition, the Democratic Governors Association on Wednesday issued a fundraising solicitation tied to Davis' filibuster.
Had this Texas bill passed, it would have been one of the worst of its kind. The measure would have closed nearly all of the state's abortion providers – dramatically reducing women's access to healthcare services and endangering the health of women across the state.
Join the hundreds of thousands who are standing with Senator Wendy Davis today, then consider making a contribution to the DGA to support our efforts to defeat Republican governors like Texas’ Rick Perry.
