Congress: Assault-weapons ban nixed from bill

Whither assault weapons ban: “Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said on Monday that a controversial assault weapons ban will not be part of a Democratic gun bill that was expected to reach the Senate floor next month,” Politico notes. “After a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday, a frustrated Feinstein said she learned that the bill she sponsored — which bans 157 different models of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines — wouldn’t be part of a Democratic gun bill to be offered on the Senate floor. Instead, it can be offered as an amendment. But its exclusion from the package makes what was already an uphill battle an almost certain defeat.”

Menendez watch: “Three women were paid to falsely claim in videotaped interviews that they had sex for money with U.S. Senator Robert Menendez in the Dominican Republic, a spokesman for the police said today,” AP reports. “The women, whose claims generated media attention in the United States, were hired by a Dominican attorney to make the videotaped statements, spokesman Maximo Baez told reporters. Two of the women received about $425 and the other was paid about $300, he said.”

National Journal: “Unlike some other scandal-wracked politicians like Anthony Weiner, Eric Massa, or Eliot Spitzer, DesJarlais hasn’t become an outcast at all. Republican leaders haven’t punished him. He still holds positions on the Agriculture and, yes, the Oversight and Government Reform committees. Even more glaring: He’s getting fundraising assistance on Tuesday from six influential colleagues, including three committee chairmen (GOP Reps. Darrell Issa of California, John Kline of Minnesota, and Frank Lucas of Oklahoma) and two potential Senate candidates (Kline and Rep. Tom Price of Georgia). Responding to calls asking why they would want to associate with a scandal-plagued congressman, several praised DesJarlais' conduct in office.”

Look no further than the republican party. This is what they do folks. It's their MO they've pulled this crap for decades. They'll look you in the eye and say "I'm not a crook". Sound familiar?

This needs to be investigated. How much you want to bet it leads back to Karl Rove? Wouldn't it be great to see him finally go to jail for his corrupt and nefarious schemes?

How could any party do this sort of thing? No way would either of these fine upstanding party's try anything and everything to paint a pig another color besides pink. lol

The Democrats should launch an investigation of this like the Republicans did about Bengazi. Putting the perspective way out of it's actual size would befit them.

Well, this will not sit well with the bed-wetting liberal crowd. Well, maybe they can stick with banning standard capacity magazines. You see, doing what doesn't work is a favorite pastime for the left. but at least it makes them feel good.

Mo- still living in the past with the "tricky-dicky" episode... and poor Adler, you act as if Bengazi was a schoolyard prank and not dereliction of duty on behalf of "someone" in your beloved administration? I agree, if someone paid them, so be it, find out who and punish them. And to the person who named Karl Rove? Weird dontcha think they Rove would be interested in a minor player from NJ?

So, let me get this right, Karl Rove bought off Harry Reid? You do realize that Harry Reid is the Senate Majority Leader, who is a Democrat and the Senate is under Democrat control, so tell me exactly which Democrats Rove bought off and how.

Also, how do you feel about Feinstein with her CCW?

You libtards are amazing. You think that the incompetent republican party that can't even defeat a socialist loser president could get 3 hookers to get their stories straight for even 5 minutes?

The worst part is that you equate this in consequential senator hooker scandal with the complete failure of the whole National Command Authority that allowed a US Ambassador and his security detail to be killed in a foreign country when we could have saved them and the fact that the Executive branch has spent 6 months covering it up? That's the same to you idiots? Wars have been started for less. An outside force invaded US soil and killed a representative of us.

Keep preaching to the other morons. God knows there's enough of them

Now if you libtards are referring to DesJarlais story, he had a mistress get an abortion. Damn his hide! Oh wait, I thought you guys were all for using abortion as a birth control measure! I guess his doing that is much worse than stealing or embezzlement or having minor prostitute provide services.

Yeah, sure...you will never have the true "truth" on this. The Senator will be sweating bullets for the next six years hoping the real "truth" is never known; I always thought he was a homosexual, anyway and this episode was a revelation that perhaps he is a "switch-hitter" and that he is close to being a pedophile by his choice of young prostitutes. Alas, this investigation will die like the one they quelched against Rockefeller for "leaking secrets" to his good buddies in the Press--he should be in Jail. A "weakness of the flesh" is forgivable, but not treason. And, as an afterthought: Harry Reid should be hung-up by his heels and the bottoms of his little feet hit with a 1" rod made of Bamboo until he cries for his mother...and that's just for starters.

billybob, it is a political reality that any gun law that is passed will be difficult due to our culture of fear. Cowardice isn't the only thing fueling that fear. Congress and mostly the republican congress has shown this in the past from their constituants big money and big corporations. The democrats are under the same pressure from the likes of the NRA with ths legislation. Maybe election congress people that has the balls of Diane would help. It is past time for congress to step up and do the right thing. But my fear is they won't.

When you want a realistic 30% of something it is often a good idea to go for all of it knowing that no one is going to give you everything you want. So by "giving in" and settling for the 30% you get what you want and the other side is happy that you didn't get all you wanted. That is how the game is played. Senator Feinstein knew she wasn't going to get the full bill as she proposed it but she'll get some watered down version that is still going to get closer to sensible gun control that she seeks. Electing people who have the guts to stand up to the gun lobby will also help, but that will take time.

Without an assault weapons ban, this year's gun reform will pretty much come down to increased background checks only. While that is not a bad thing, it will not solve the problem. The assault weapons ban should be offered as a separate bill and debated on its own merits, which I think are many.

They wouldn't dare keep them to prey on an unarmed populace would they?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. The problem as I see it is a society with crazed individuals with no moral compass. You cant legislate that away. Killers,Gangs, thieves, rapists would follow these laws? How is a ban on Semi automatic weapons your cure? Would you ban these now and feel "safe"or comeback next year and try for more?

Honest people would be the ones affected here ,the criminal element would still use what they may.(For the most part that's handguns anyway).I would still like to live in a country where the Bill of rights is not subject to political whims. (Gun control being only one of which I disagree with) The weapons will still be there regardless. Your free will and choice would not. The Irony is that Diane Feinstein and assoc. have sold more guns and Ammo with their proposed ban, than any gun salesman could have.

A general ban on assault weapons wouldn't be observed by the bad guys. Where do the bad guys get their weapons? Allowing the continuation of straw purchases encourages the bad guys. No background check necessary give me money I give you gun. It is that easy. We need to have all firearms that change hands to be fully registered. Furthermore if you have a gun, and you should if you want one, and your gun is secured in a gun safe with trigger lock, fine. If someone steals your gun and you report the theft within 24 hours you're safe. If you fail to report it and a crime is committed with your gun you should be held as an accessory to the crime for not reporting it being stolen. Then there is the issue of an unsecured firearm. Look at Mary Lanza and her son, Adam. Had Mary secured her weapons where she and only she had the keys to access them she might be alive today and, with her, those small children in Conn. So, I believe that in that kind of situation Mary Lanza was as much at fault as Adam because she made it possible for him (her unstable son) to access them. If you have a gun and don't secure it in a safe with trigger lock and it is used in a crime, perhaps by a friend or family member, you should be held as an accessory to the crime. This way you can have all the guns your little heart desires so long as they don't get into the hands of someone who is teetering on the edge of sanity, a criminal or would be criminal you should have nothing to worry about. Let the guns be sold to just anybody or given to just anybody without careful checks and we'll continue to see small children and innocent people going to see a movie massacred.

Adler: You have no idea what an "assault rifle" is, do you. Also, "military style" weapons can mean any firearm that is black in color which most, if not all, military hand held weapons are; from a fully automatic assault rifle (M-16), to a common handgun (Beretta 9mm), to a shotgun (Remington). Words have meanings. And what makes one commonly available firearm more dangerous than any other if it in the hands of someone bent on killing? A cross-bow, commonly available, is in many instances more deadly AND stealthy than a firearm. Will that be next in the "infringers" agenda?

The last thing the worthless parasite and thief soiling the Oval Office would want is for there to be numerous internet sites instructing people how to make weapons, explosives, drones and guns in their homes. The marxist want our guns for only one reason, they are up to no good, and can not foist their braindead agenda on an armed populace. obama knows once he has redistributed everything we WORKED for, that when you have nothing to loose, you strike back. It takes a lifetime of hard work to put together enough for a comfortable retirement, where you want a few years to enjoy what is left of your life, then you get a worthless parasite like obama taking it all away.

That's taking care of housing for our military overseas and overseeing our military hospitals here at home. Her husbands business SOMEHOW made $1 billion in 3 years. Guess she did a real fine job (for her family). She resigned from that committee when Walter Reed was almost closed because of mold and rats. THAT WAS FEINSTEINS RESPONSIBILITY and no one EVER called her on it. She is a hyocrite, liar and a thief.

You bedwetters are really something. DiFi is a GIANT hypocrite, among other things. She has HER carry permit - so good for she but not for ye? Where's your sense of outrage? What lemmings you people are.

We have a 2nd Amendment - you can find it in the Bill of Rights. If you want it changed, there is a prescribed method. I encourage you to work within the system as this kind of Hope & Change is not something that you can push down everyone's throat.

                      Have a nice day.

bahahahahahahaha......serves that ugly female troll right. Her knee jerk reaction on the Sandy Hook shooting went so far her foot larged in her own arse.

It's about time the sniffling idiots realize that the ONLY way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is with a GOOD guy with a gun! Read it and weep!

The Feinstein gambit was a diversion from the beginning. The liberals (who always react to a shooting by trying to take guns away from those who didn't do it) knew they would never get the ban. So they convinced Rinos to go along with something less draconian as a compromise.

So, we finally know what's in a bill before it's voted on. About time.

The Feinstein photo on Drudge should make her leave all public life and move under a troll bridge out of site..

The entire bill is a waste of taxpayers' money. We already have federal background checks. Criminals don't obey laws so all it would do is hurt honest people. But, you know the Marxist Democrat Party, anything to get more control of the people.
