The portion I heard, Romney gave a reasonable sounding speech but it was a lot of "fluff" and not much substance, no new ideas just the same regurgitated ones. What is fascinating is that we so myopically focused on the 47% 'analysis' in Romney's speech, that we ignored the most telling aspect of his comments that day. Watch that video again, and listen to him laud the Chinese sweatshop he visited (with the intent to buy, although he never says whether he did or not).

He spoke in glowing terms about how the thousands of employees were mostly young women, who were paid 'a pittance' in his words, who worked long hours every day with no time off, whose entire lives were controlled by the 'employer', who slept crammed into tiny rooms, with one bathroom per dozens of girls, who lived in a corporate compound surrounded by barbed wire. He lauded their 'work ethic', he lauded their business model - all speaking to people who spent $50,000 to attend his speech. And he finished with the breathless revelation that the barbed wire (he was told, and apparently believed) was not meant to keep the 'employees' in, it was meant to keep freeloaders out!

His message was clear: we could have such a utopia in America today. We could have near 100% employment, if only we could instill that wonderful work ethic, which means if only we could break labor, if only we could get away with paying workers a pittance, if only we could drive American workers to such desperation that we need barbed wire to keep them away from the 'jobs' which are unjustly seen as indentured servitude by the spoiled middle class.

This was his vision for America. This was clearly his holy grail of the 'free market'. This speech was online, in plain view of the voters of America. And yet, he only lost by 5 million votes. 47% of Americans wanted to give him the reins of power in our country! These people sit on these blogs today and tell us what fools we were not to elect him!

I do not know what to make of that. I truly don't.

1 - The skyrocketing Debt will be devastating to the future of our children.

2 - The massive increases in the money supply to fund the Deficits will result in massive Inflation, high Interest Rates, and more Unemployment.

These are simple messages that even the 'low information voters' will understand, and there is no doubt that we will have to deal with these problems in the near future.

Obama's own 2013 Budget projections show that the National Debt will increase from $9.986 Trillion at the end of fiscal 2008 to $20.392 Trillion at the end of 2016 (Obama's last year) - but President's budget projections are notoriously 'optimistic' (Bush projected a SURPLUS for 2012, but Obama made it a Deficit of $1.1 Trillion) - it will likely be closer to $25 Trillion in 2016. The Interest cost alone will be devastating.

The Chinese are no longer buying our Debt - in fact, they have quietly 'cashed in' about $200 Billion of their loans to us over the last year (they know inflation is coming), and the Federal Reserve has had to replace that money by effectively 'printing new money' - along with about $1 Trillion in new money to finance the Deficit. The money supply (M1) has increased from about $1.4 Trillion in 2009 to about $2.5 Trillion now. Every responsible economist will tell you that this is highly "INFLATIONARY" - ala the 14% Inflation and 18% Interest Rates under Jimmy Carter in 1980.

Bush took a 5.7 trillion dollar debt and counting his last budget for 2009 with a 1.2 trillion deficit raised that debt to 12.1 trillion. That's 6.4 trillion new debt over 8 years or 800 billion a year average despite inheriting a 4.2% unemployment rate and fairly healthy economy.

The problem is most intelligent Americans don't believe returning to the policies that created our problems are the solution. Ryan's latest budget proposal would implement his tax cut for the rich costing 800 billion a year in revenue and though it would balance the budget sooner than Obama's plan Ryan's would do it on the backs of the 98% to further enrich the 2%. Americans by a wide margin believe that's the wrong way.

You right wingers have been screaming about the debt for 4 years yet just before the election most Americans including most republicans blamed Bush for both the debt and our economy. If you think further ranting about the debt without addressing whose to blame you aren't one of the informed you believe yourself to be.

Notice how many hardline conservatives on here assume that liberals and/or Obama supporters must be people that are benefitting from social programs. Despite that the fact that that is not true (in fact, what data is out there shows that the poor and those who have used food stamps and welfare are actually slightly more likely to be conservative, not liberal). I have also seen the same kind of behavior in gay marriage debates -- hardline conservatives assume that if you argue for gay rights, you must yourself be gay.

But think about it.. why do they assume that if you are liberal or support Obama that you use welfare or food stamps? Why do they assume that if you argue for gay rights you must be gay? Because, they can't fathom someone doing something not for themselves but on someone else's behalf.

If a person can't conceive of someone arguing on another's behalf, I think you can pretty safely assume that person has never done that. Like I said -- if you want proof that some conservatives care about nothing but themselves, just note how often they make these assumptions.

And while I know it's a useless endeavor to point out facts...

The Obama phone line is tired and a blatant misrepresentation. The program that you are referring to was put into action before Obama even took office. This whole idea has been debunked so many times that if you are still espousing it, it pretty much means you shoved your head into the sand and refuse to read anything. Which pretty much tells us you have no credibility.

To whoever made the point about the poor having lots of children (I'm too lazy to even go look up which one of you said it..), there's actually no data to back that. In fact, data has shown that women who have used welfare have the same of number of children as the national average. So, again -- another debunked myth being touted to demonize the poor and demonize those who support social programs.

While we're on the topic of the poor and welfare, I'd also like to point out that statistics show that the majority of people who use welfare use it for 18 months or less. Thus, this idea that welfare creates people who are dependent on the government and aren't motivated to get a job? Yet another baseless myth.

To whoever claimed that Obama's jobs are fictitious -- You would be wrong. Anyone can look up the Bureau of Labor Statistics information. There are more people working now than were working in 2008. In the past three years, 6 million jobs have been added. Most of those were not government jobs, they were private jobs. Some of them were part time jobs, but many were also full time. If you don't believe me, feel free to go look up the data. Again -- anyone has access to it from the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

I recently came across a 2010 Forbes prediction about how much the stock market would suffer if Obama was re-elected. Instead it has continued to improve. I came across another in Forbes in 2010 talking about how a stock market surge could be expected with Republican wins. Instead Republicans lost seats and the stock market is stronger than ever.

Doom and gloom is all they have to sell. It doesn't occur to them that they keep getting it wrong.

The Republican torch is a lie. They seem to be the only ones who don't realize it.

When people demanded Romney do as almost all other presidential candidates had done and release his tax returns the right wing talking heads told him he didn't have to prove anything.

When people asked about his offshore companies and an explanation of why he created offshore shell companies they told him to ignore them as they couldn't prove anything.

When people questioned him about conflicting documents which showed him signing documents as CEO and sole owner of Bain years after he claimed to retire when a number of loot and scoot schemes destroyed companies and cost thousands their jobs they told him to remain silent as nothing could be proved.

They never seemed to get it that people didn't need to prove anything. If people believe you're a tax cheat, put profit ahead of people and are maybe dishonest they won't vote for you. We didn't need to prove he was unworthy to be president but he did need to prove he was. He didn't.

What Romney doesn't understand, and the reason he lost is, as unions have declined, so have wages and benefits for working Americans, hence they look to government to help them buy food, find affordable housing and pay for medical care. Gary the stock market is not a very good indicator for economic conditions when it comes to unemployment numbers. Also, look at stock market highs in the past then tell me what happens shortly there after "think recessions or market explosions". But after 2010, the GOPers in the House refused to debate and amend the jobs plans, and the GOP senators filibustered; plus the GOP senators filibustered everything from 2008 through 2010 making it nearly impossible to do anything. Perhaps you have forgotten the GOP's 2010 election promise "jobs, jobs, jobs" yet they have not passed one single jobs bill in the plus two years since winning. Defeating President Obama was the GOP's #1 priority but despite their efforts to sabotage him, they lost. Romney could reasonably promise "jobs" because the GOPers would have stopped obstructing.

Dakota: Let's see.....somehow the voting machines were corrupted and somehow Romney was of the people. The actual fact is there is virtually no voter fraud in the country - so low that percentage-wise it doesn't even register(there was attempted voter suppression, but that's another story). BUT the most amazing thing is what you believe about Mr. Ronmey. You have no reason to believe me, but I do know him.

He is a decent man who is very devout.....and he is one on the most out-of-touch people I have ever met. George Romney was a pretty good politician, a good governor of Michigan and a good auto executive. Mitt was obviously giving other kids haircuts and other bullying, when he should have been learning from dad.

Romney's 20% tax cut and consolidating tax brackets would have dropped millions that currently pay a small amount of taxes from the tax roles just as Reagan and Bush's tax cuts did. Would Republicans then be crying about the 55% who pay no taxes? Just for the simple minded, raising taxes as Democrats do increases the number of taxpayers while cutting them drops more from the roles. If you want more paying taxes then raise taxes don't cut them.
