First Read Minute: Signs of GOP identity crisis at CPAC
In today's First Read Minute, NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro are keeping a close eye on the Conservative Political Action Conference and the last day of President Obama's meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
Today hosts the not ready for prime time players...
We'll have to wait until tomorrow for the parade mega-stars of madness like, King Birther Trump, the Wasilla Hillbilly, Ted tea bagging Cruz & Rinse & Repeat Priebus!
Their sign in the back says "New Challenges, Timeless Principles"
Wonderful and true statement, but what it does not say, nor should it be implied as saying, that the legislative actions you put into play in the name of those principles are just and true.
I have little resistance against conservative principles (in concept), but have a whole lot of resistance against the majority of the people who call themselves conservative today and the actions they put in play in alleged support of those principles.
Poor pitiful vaginal probe Bob, he no likey we mock his 'heroes', poor fellow this is what he's reduced to....as he shills for the likes of Palin, Trump, the bottom of the barrel.
I am sure the Trumpster will be waving glow in the dark birth certificate that he has had carbon dated and the faithful will swoon at the magical intelligent design science of it all.
Forgot the resident cadaver, Rick Scott--medicare fraudster extraordinaire, wasn't ex. (soon to be felon) Lt. Gov. Carroll slated to speak? What a sad and pitiful line up--they never learn. Keep repeating the same old same and maybe somebody, somewhere will believe the bs. Into the wide yonder of oblivion 2014!
Democrat in Congress don't have identity crisis, but they don't have freedom. They all live in the same Democrat Plantation. Any Democrat who dare to disagree with their master , will be punish with ostracism and lack of found for future reelection campaign. Democrats live under the rule of their leader who instruct them to do the same. Obamacare is the perfect example how Democrats have to obey their Master, "pass the bill , after you pass the bill, you will see what is in it".
However, there is a GOP too stupid to understand that it's becoming two parties within itself and STILL representing a minority of 'Merkins combined...
Your indication of jealousy that the Democratic party is a single entity is highly flattering to them at this juncture. Thanks!
I love all of these GOP discussions---is it the pizza or the box, they ask? No one ever seems to suggest that it is the pizza AND the box. They have a negative message and they present it in a way that insults over half the electorate. No wonder they lose national elections and given time will start start losing at the statewide level as well, especially if they continue to insult Latinos and other immigrants.
When I worked at L.L.Bean, they were always talking about the need to sell the sizzle as well as the steak. As in, promoting our brand, as well as providing quality goods and services.
A company that has been around a hundred years, and grown it's brand, has a reputation based on past performance. The sizzle is in promoting that record.
What do the Republicans have in their record? Cutting taxes while waging two wars, causing the debt to explode. You can make a bad steak sizzle, I suppose, but if it's stringy and tough...people will find it unpalatable.
I like the analogy... but IMO they're no longer homogeneous enough to be considered anything more than luke-warm stir-fry.... Vegetarian Luke-warm stir-fry.... Un-seasoned Vegetarian Luke-warm stir-fry...
The GOP claims it wants to reform its message and be more appealing to voters--never mind their policies and platform remains the same--yet CPAC gives the largest blocks of speaking time to none other than three of their bat-crap craziest. Ted Cruz, aka Joe McCarthy, gets over 30 minutes for the keynote speech. Birther Bigot Donald Trump, and the Half-Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin each get the next largest blocks of speaking time. Add the embrace of the John Birch Society and Pepe' le Pewe, and the only message CPAC will send voters is that the Circus clowns are still running the show.
I doubt republicans speaking at the event care what a left of center democrat's advice might be but just in case: it is that any Republican who wants to be taken seriously should run as fast as they can from CPAC; the taint of just being part of the whack-a-do crowd will not wash off with wishful thinking and a magic wand.
To quote a point of Mike Lofgren’s from his piece, “Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult.”
“It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant.”
There is nothing wrong with conservative views on some issues but this crowd seems to be so far to the right that they've lost sight of anyone even slightly right of center, a place their party had been up until 1980. It has been down hill ever since.
This is another one of their ironies. They have become so extreme, so cultlike, that they are pushing most moderate voices into the arms of the Democrats. It isn't that moderate conservatives like the Democrats. It is that the Democrats are sane and the right wing has lost all touch with reality. No one who is rational can continue to call themselves a Republican.
OK, CPAC Republicans, here's some "Timeless Principles" for you, since you brought it up. Feed the hungry. Clothe and comfort the poor. Visit those who are in prison. Have mercy. Exercise forgiveness. Heal the sick. Judge not. And recognize that it's all but impossible for a wealthy man to be saved. Sound familiar? Oh, yeah, those are some of the commandments and sayings of Jesus Christ, to whom most of you claim to be fanatically devoted. Too bad you don't really mean it. Hypocrites.
A giant cluster f and still oblivious and floating around in a parrell dimension, still don't understand that brand of continued vitriol, vilification, special interest protectors are dying a very slow and painful (for them) death, so lie down and go already and let the American people move forward instead of stuck in the past revving up toward nowhere.
I just saw Rand Paul's speech. He is for a 17% flat tax. That sounds reasonable, yet is it really possible to make it fair. He also commented on hassles and expenses concerning drug laws. He said that he would eliminate the Department of Education, but mentioned nothing about grandpa Nixon's concoction-the DEA. I saw his groupies cheering him on. I also saw many of his people sit unimpressed w/their arms folded.
If you implement a flat tax, you will lower the rates for anyone currently above that and raise them for those who are below. That seems to be obvious, but amazingly gets ignored in the "philosophical discussion". In other words, Paul would have folks making the national poverty level wage of $23K would pay 17% (they currently pay zero) and the multimillionaires currently subject to 39% would go down to match them. What do you suppose will happen to the deficit? Do you think the poor will make up the huge benefit we'll give to the rich? And sure, education is the key to our ability to compete in the world market, but we don't need to have a national strategy. We can delegate that to a couple of hundred local school boards and a few million parents and somehow it will all work out.
I sat on one of those local school boards and I have to say I have not been impressed with the national "strategy". It changes with every administration. It is lacking in cohesion or informed decision makers. If you want a national strategy, it would behoove you to ask the teachers and local school boards about what is working in their districts and what is not working. The worst designer of a national "strategy" is a lawyer who knows nothing about public education.
How does this new republican party attract people....if you don't believe in 100% of the bullpucky there selling you can't be a republican... my maths rusty but how's that growing the party... people don't like being told what to think and do...this isn't the 1950's... people aren't buying it like 5 of the last 6 elections...social conservatives sorry that ship has sailed also...if you think sticking with you're principils are what's going to make you viliable...damn the country's changed....quit watching fox and listening to you're own kind... center left... if you want things to stay the same, things are going to have to change.
Well, this is just a sorry state of affairs. Hopefully, they can find their voice as a party before they really fall apart. Lest we all end up under the thumb of only 1 group; which would lead to a silenceing of everyone else for the sake of "unity" because they are "backwards" or "dumb." Guess only time will show how long it takes before history recycles the retardedness of our populace (from either side of the fence).
There is this peculiar notion out there that smart and educated is really a bad way to be. There is this weird belief that dumb and dumber can somehow design national direction better than those people who have spent their entire lives studying what works and what doesn't. I have read thousands of internet postings and I am constantly amazed by the amount of pure ignorance out there. There seems to be this theory that we can bully other countries into doing whatever we want them to do. There seems to be a theory that understanding and appreciating cultural differences is anti-American. There seems to be a theory that, despite the American Constitution, that no person who disagrees with you has the right to respect or freedom of speech or the right to vote. Dumb and dumber are arguing that stupid is the political philosophy that will get us further than smart and educated. Forgive me if I disagree.
The dumb ones think that they are smart because they actually believe their own lies. One speaks for all, when everyone is a bobblehead with a Bushmaster, 20,000 rounds of ammo, and their Church's lawyers on Speed-Dail...

Feisty
Don't forget Yosemite LaPierre!
Feisty witlessly bashing conservatives, nothing new.
First Read's endless spin of doom and gloom for Republicans...no surprise either.
The GOP was dumbfounded that they lost so much in Nov 2012, losing the White House, some seats in both House and Senate.
.
Now they are just DUMB, & getting dumber every day, as portrayed by Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber.
Sorry vaginal probe Bobby, no one has to lift a finger, the GNOP'ers are doing a might fine job all on their own!
Say, I saw where your idol & mentor old Bob "up in your bizness" McDonnell got dissed!
Oh what fun it was listening to you regale us with tales of how he would be Willard's VP choice...
Then again, that was under one of your multiple previous disguises! ;o)
Chucky,
Now THAT's funny! ;o)))
GOP . . .
And here Mark & Domenico took the time to answer YOUR question in the Boiler Room and yet you insult the hosts. Not big on manners, eh?
Thought you'd be taking the day off to whine and cry that Probe Boy wasn't invited to CPAC.
*QUICK*
Someone hand little Marco a bottle of water, he hasn't even started to speak yet and has already broken out in his infamous "flop sweat"!
Bobby is a conservative, what do you expect? ;o)
They're big on biting the hand which feeds them... *sigh*
I'm still surprised that Pee-Wee Herman changed his name and became the RNC chairperson... Goes to show you never can tell.
I checked the listed speakers on their grifter-site... Adds a whole new meaning to "The Lower 48"...
Forgot the resident cadaver, Rick Scott--medicare fraudster extraordinaire, wasn't ex. (soon to be felon) Lt. Gov. Carroll slated to speak? What a sad and pitiful line up--they never learn. No virginia... There is no Santa Claus.
However, there is a GOP too stupid to understand that it's becoming two parties within itself and STILL representing a minority of 'Merkins combined...
Your indication of jealousy that the Democratic party is a single entity is highly flattering to them at this juncture. Thanks!
Santa = Congressional Campaign found.
I think redvirginia gets *ticked* every time he thinks about a black man running a plantation
Funny stuff there. I thought it was even funnier that Marco Rubio was referred to as "the RG3 of American politics."
Usually you need the Onion has to come up with sound bites that ridiculous.
The doom and gloom for Republicans is no spin--the split within the party is real and well-detailed.
The GOP doomed
My desire for a 2 party system unsatisfied
Can I tickle your ribs to make up for that?
We are all ribs (libs).... Tickling your own ribs is easier... my favorite Kitty Pig!
My ribs are for Kermit only.
P.S. (pig $hit): Kitty Pig is the nickname I have made for blackcatwhitecat. MEOW. I see money in my pig $hit - please recycle. and go green.
So true Fancy, Conservatives find themselves in a whole and just continue to dig faster.
I still think the bar scene in Star Wars would be more fun to watch than the CPAC circle-jerk.
Probably... but first you have to tell them apart!
your the pivot man
GOP Comeback 2014,
Suprise us and tell all of us what is new in the GOP that will give them a solid identity?
Old GOP who lost elections, Trump and all, where is the GOP going these days?
The GOP is having trouble focusing?
LOL, it must be because when they take off those white hoods to drink moonshine at their inbred circle jerks, the light blinds them.

Chick B - I think there is a hint of uncooked chicken in the stir fry
LOL
Chucky, Chick, stir-fry along with the hint of real bull manure, served up on a bed or saw dust.

CPAC has become TeaPAC.

blackcatwhitecat
"CPAC has become TeaPAC"
Maybe we could convince them to cut to the chase and just call it "Bag-Pack"??
There is nothing wrong with conservative views on some issues but this crowd seems to be so far to the right that they've lost sight of anyone even slightly right of center, a place their party had been up until 1980. It has been down hill ever since.
...So far to the right that the Events company doing the set-up reportedly had to go back in and move the stage over just to keep it under them...
This CPAC way of thinking is why conservatism is dying, and, the Nation as a whole is moving more toward progressivism.
This is another one of their ironies. They have become so extreme, so cultlike, that they are pushing most moderate voices into the arms of the Democrats. "Their" Jesus said "All will be saved except those you point out to me in righteous indignation!"
Yup, and their Jesus totes a bushmaster with a high capacity magazine.
They're really more fans of "Supply Side Jesus"
James -- "Shouldn't we at least HEAL (the lepers) Supply Side Jesus?"
SSJ -- "No James, Leprosy is a matter of personal responsibility. If people knew I was healing lepers there would be no incentive to avoid Leprosy!" http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/03/09/17_franken.html
I am happy that Chris Christie was not invited to CPAC.
I'm happy for him too.
C.P.A.C.=Constipated Pooper's Asslicking Convention!!!
Will they ever learn? No!
Will they ever join the 21st. century? NO!
Will they retain their positians? Probably. Thanks to Gerrymandering!
Will they ever get the majority of the Latino vote? Never! They hate anything NOT white!
No, they will never win again, at this rate!
A giant cluster f and still oblivious and floating around in a parrell dimension, still don't understand that brand of continued vitriol, vilification, special interest protectors are dying a very slow and painful (for them) death, so lie down and go already and let the American people move forward instead of stuck in the past revving up toward nowhere.

obama is santa....he gives people stuff for doing nothing....
At least he ain't a selfish greedmonger. You know, give you nothing for doing something.
