Napolitano: Obama 'urgently awaiting' bipartisan immigration draft

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday that the Obama administration is “urgently awaiting” immigration reform legislation being drafted by a bipartisan group of senators, adding that critics’ efforts to separate border security benchmarks from a larger comprehensive reform package are mere stalling tactics.

“The notion that we have to secure our border first is kind of another way of saying ‘we don’t really want to deal with immigration reform,’ right?” Napolitano said during a panel at the National League of Cities conference in Washington DC.  “We keep moving that goalpost.”

Napolitano, the former governor of border state Arizona, told the group of city officials that the federal government has implemented unprecedented security measures at the border in terms of manpower and technology, reducing the flow of illegal immigrants into the country to decades-old lows.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano outlines the progress being made on securing the U.S.-Mexico border and where lawmakers stand on a comprehensive immigration bill.

“We have driven down the numbers, so that the number of illegal immigration attempts is at 40-year lows,” she said. “We haven’t seen these kinds of numbers since the early 1970s.”

Napolitano said the president is of supportive of the “Gang of Eight” Senate group that is working behind closed doors to craft legislation, and she urged quick unveiling of those congressional proposals.

“He is urgently awaiting the product that emerges, hopefully sooner rather than later,” she said.

While senators have been relatively mum on the status of the negotiations, recent reports have indicated that they are close to consensus on the bill's path to legal status for illegal immigrants as well as on some border security proposals.

President Barack Obama has been criticized by some reform advocates for failing to address immigration during his first term, a promise he made on the campaign trail during his first presidential run.

Napolitano said Tuesday that reform likely couldn’t have been achieved four years ago – but now the time is right.

“When I came here to serve as Secretary, it was not the time. There just weren’t enough people ready to dive in and there were other issues that were crowding the calendar for the Senate floor and the House floor,” she said. “But now is the time when this issue rises to the top.”

“We haven’t seen these kinds of numbers since the early 1970s.”

We haven't been counting the people we turn back at the border in these numbers since the 1970's either.

Have to laugh at the frequency with which Boarder and Border are misused.

Obama always wants to do things in such an all-out frenzy of "hurry up and do it, without thinking" ! What the hell is wrong with taking time and making sure such legislation is "RIGHT" and has widespread support from both parties ?

Besides, our country is $16.5 trillion in debt, the damaging effects of obamacare are looming and the economy is being propped up by mass government printing of U.S. dollars ! When is this financial moron in the White House going to pay attention to REAL private sector growth ?

The only doom and gloom came directly from the white house. Still not feeling it. But hey, should those government jobs start doing down hill we have plenty of room in the private sector, we are doing just fine apparently. Think of the gains that would bring if 170K jobs suddenly were paying in?

Sounds evil to me.

But considering this is about immigration I know how to free up several billion $. Deport all incarcerated illegals. That would free up $50k per convict.

You people!?!?!!? Again, define 'leading'. What in the world is the Executive Branch supposed to do, wipe the turd stains from Congressional backsides as well? The Legislative Branch writes legislation and votes on it, the Executive Branch vetoes it or signs it into Law.

Lead on what??!!? When you hear folks from the Hill, they all say "...that we know what must be done..." blah, blah, blah.

You folks continue to throw out these stupid phrases that have no basis in reality.

Give us the 1, 2, 3s of what "leading" looks like here. Notwithstanding, we are paying a whole hell of a lot of money to the SOBs in the Congress who at every turn seem to need to someone to hold their hand and skip across the f'n street with them.

@bcwc #1.5, Libs like yourself are usually woefully lacking in the capacity to understand .... understand that if our government does NOT impose Obamacare on business (expensive and burdensome causing many employers to run "lean" in their staffing), does NOT mandate higher minimum wage (lower in other countries the U.S. competes against), and does NOT have "all" the EPA mandates that lead to over-regulation of business .... that our country can compete again in the world market for manufacturing jobs.

When the private sector grows, tax revenues can grow ! When the government grows ... it merely soaks up more and more tax revenues from the private sector, causing it to struggle. The United States of America now has the HIGHEST corporate tax rates in the world !!!

Why would Napolitano even think about an immigration reform bill ?

Heck, she does things her way anyways. Law enforcement locks up Illegal Aliens (immigrants) for violating Federal and State laws, then she turns around and frees them. Or issues policies to NOT detain Illegal Aliens (Immigrants) who BROKE FEDERAL LAWS, which she swore to uphold.

What is she ? Judge and jury ? Wait a minute....just another Progressive at work.

Demanding "Immigration Reform" (aka "Amnesty for lawbreakers) and, in particular, demanding such an asinine agenda before the borders are secured and before there is any method of verifying and deporting visa overstays is UNACCEPTABLE and says that YOU Ms. Napolitano, are NOT interested having enforceable immigration laws.

A recent Reuters poll revealed that the majority of Americans want for ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS to be deported tout de suite! ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION harms low wage and middle income Americans the most (including, most prominently, minorities and the working poor). ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION devastates that wages and job opportunities of the most vulnerable Americans.

WE WANT FOR OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS TO BE ENFORCED! WE DO NOT WANT AMNESTY.

The illegals cost us billions of dollars and are filling our jails due to their crimes. Companies and private jails love them because Americans are bearing the brunt of these costs while they profit.

Most Americans do not want the illegals to receive free citizenship after breaking our laws. When will our politicians put OUR desires ahead of their corporate master's pocketbooks?

An interesting statement Clara, but you need to visit a shopping store line in CA after a "Mother Day" check arrives at a criminal alien household.

Food at the supermarket is purchased with food stamps, with the non-listed items purchased with $100 BILLS. Many criminal aliens game the system while also working under documents purchased on the corner.

The US Gov has a website committed to criminal aliens, informing them of the various programs they are entitled to. I find it amazing that liberals believe in this path of turning criminal aliens into citizens.

@RI Mom: So you want to give them legal status in our Nation? Even if they broke the law? Do you really know what you are asking for? I fear that you are nothing but a blind liberal that wants to help everybody else but their own people and nation. So for once, I would like for you liberal morons to think about this issue before rushing into it.

What kind of jobs do these illegals do in the first place? They do jobs that illegals do, farming, maids, construction that is no good at all, but these jobs are easy for them to get because the employers of these type of jobs hire illegals knowing these are the only type of jobs they can get.

Now liberals, if you give them legal status do they have to stay working at those jobs that are done by illegals for illegal wages? The answer would be NO! These former illegals will now attempt to move into the legal job section because they have papers now. But wait, we don't even have enough jobs for our own citizens and people of legal status here in our country. So what will happen when these now legal law breakers cannot find a job.

Oh yes you liberal morons love the social programs, so they'll get on welfare and suck even more from the bleeding system. Wow you liberals are so smart it amazes me!

Allen - So the President should hold no Responsibility, got it.

============================

Is that what I said? No, it is not.

Having "responsibility" in something and "leading" in something is and can be entirely different things. The Administration has been in contact with the members in the Senate working this bill. Remember Rubio's temper tantrum at the thought that the WH also had pending legislation if the Senate came out with nothing.

You folks continue to throw out crap phrase like "he should lead" and give no functional definition of what leading is supposed to look like.

Leading isn't an issue in Washington. Political will is an issue in Washington. "Leading" is what a CEO can do in a business, because everyone MUST implement what the Boss wants. CEOs have "followers" because by default their subordinates HAVE TO follow them or they will no longer have a job. Government does not work that way, especially the Federal Government. There are 535 Congressional Members + the President that need to come to a majority consensus, in many different formats for things to get done in this environment.

Stop already with this utopian definitions of leading and angels wings and spring water splashing on everyone involved. We have a rigid system of government for a reason. You folks read to too much Presidential historian accounts that depict a couple of kisses on the cheek and a good slap on the rear end somehow made the coziest of friends and the hardest of decisions suddenly made easy.

The world doesn't work that way. Never has and never will.

    #1.31 - Tue Mar 12, 2013 2:47 PM EDT

The article states: "The latest Fox News poll shows a majority of American voters believes illegal immigrants should be given a chance to apply for citizenship, as long as they meet certain requirements."

Did you note, "...as long as they meet certain requirements."

And what exactly are those requirements? Most people say illegals should all go back to the end of the line. In other words, immigrate the way they're supposed to.

    • 5 votes
    #1.32 - Tue Mar 12, 2013 2:50 PM EDT

The 1986 amnesty was Ted Kennedy's idea, and strictly enforcing existing immigration laws from then forward, promised by the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, was supposed to be part of the deal. So Reagan (who later said it was the biggest mistake he made) and Congress (Dems and Repubs alike) went along and gave amnesty to almost 3 million illegal aliens, sending the message, that if you can steal in and stay long enough, the Americans will reward your illegal acts by giving you amnesty. How strong was that message? We now have 4 times as many, or more, wanting amnesty.

So, let's give these 12 million illegals amnesty and in another 20-25 years it will be 48 million wanting amnesty. Does that sound like a good idea to anyone?

1.27 and 1.32.... AGAIN... this is what a PATH TO CITIZENSHIP MEANS.....

    Here is your Answer:

While details of the bill are still scarce, the Los Angeles Times reports that the plan under discussion is generally similar to President Obama’s proposal in that

    (1) it would require undocumented immigrants to pass a criminal background check,

    (2) pay fines and back taxes,

    (3) learn English along the way to

    (4) eventually applying for a green card

    (5) and later citizenship.

In the interim period before seeking a green card,

    (6) they would be granted a provisional legal status

    (7) that allows them to work

    (8) but not to receive federal benefits.

    .

    .

I am well aware what a PATH TO CITIZENSHIP means........Nooooo it is NOT instant amnesty.

Try DEPORTING $ $ $ # 1.29..... Call your Governor and have them ADD that bill to your taxes.

The notion that we have to secure our border first is kind of another way of saying ‘we don’t really want to deal with immigration reform,’ right?

Man, nappy-head really is a dumb bitch. If you don't secure the border, and you give amnesty to xx-million illegals, then all you're going to get is xxx-million more illegals crossing over. But, she runs a government department, so obviously simple logic (and Reagan history) isn't a requirement for her to get hired.

Also, the border is safer than it ever has been, go and tell that to the mexican citizens of Reynosa (right across the Texas border) after the cartel battle there Sunday night where dozens of cartel members were killed.

    (1) it would require undocumented immigrants to pass a criminal background check,

They came here illegally, they are all criminals, so this seems like moot point to me.

    (2) pay fines and back taxes,

Really? The government will realize that the high percentage don't make enough to pay any fines/taxes and just waive that anyways, another moot point.

    (3) learn English along the way to

ummm... lol? Been to wal-mart lately?

    (4) eventually applying for a green card

Gee, how many people are in the queue already LEGALLY applying for a green card?

    (5) and later citizenship.

    @!$%# no

In the interim period before seeking a green card,

    (6) they would be granted a provisional legal status

    So.... forever...

    (7) that allows them to work

They are already stealing citizens jobs, what would this change?

    (8) but not to receive federal benefits.

They already get benefits for all the anchor kids they are popping out, that won't stop. Yet again a moot point. This would only matter if an amendment was put on the 14th amendment to close this loop hole.

Try DEPORTING $ $ $ # 1.29..... Call your Governor and have them ADD that bill to your taxes.

On the flip side, my taxes would no longer be going to ESL, education (which holds back our children), incarceration, lost jobs (more unemployment), high medical bills (due to them using ER as a revolving door), pedophiles, drugs, trash, citizens not getting into classes due to illegals taking spots, medicaid, anchor babies (wic, food stamps, welfare cash, etc), and the list goes on and on.

I get it... you are convinced that all illegal immigrants are sub-human and you two are superior to EVERYONE....

    But...you are a myth believer

All immigrants pay taxes whether they are illegal or not. They pay them in the form of property tax - directly if they own a home, or indirectly if they rent; sales tax on all the goods they buy, and income tax at Federal, State and local level.

    .

It highly UNLIKELY that your STATE gives welfare to illegals. PROVE that they do.

If an illegal has a fake Social Security numbers, the money they pay into the system is money that will never be withdrawn. The amount in question is evidenced by the Social Security Administration’s “suspense file” (taxes that cannot be matched to workers’ names and Social Security numbers).

Illegal immigrants, as well as legal immigrants with little job skills or language skills often take the work seen by most Americans as "beneath them." Janitorial services, crop pickers, garbage collectors need workers, and they do not find them from high-school-educated, English-speaking citizens.

In Georgia, a 2011 crackdown on illegal immigrants caused many to be deported and more to flee the state. This caused a shortage of labor on the state's farms, indicating that illegal immigrants in that state do not compete very much with Americans for jobs.

LEGAL immigrants are severely restricted from accessing public benefits, and illegal immigrants are even further precluded from anything other than emergency services. Anti-immigrant groups skew these figures by including programs used by U.S. citizen children of immigrants in their definition of immigrant welfare use, among other tactics. transplanted into our workforce and will contribute $500 billion toward our social security system over the next 20 years.

Within ten years of arrival, more than 75% of immigrants speak English well; moreover, demand for English classes at the adult level far exceeds supply.

Well, yeah, I guess so. Most Americans need a job that pays a living wage with benefits to even afford to work. But, as I recall, I saw plenty of Americans out cleaning the coast line when BP flooded the Gulf with oil. The difference? BP was paying workers above minimum wage.

    You are out to lunch.....

When an illegal has a child in the U.S, ALL OF HER CHILDREN become eligible for benefits -- Go to a welfare office in TX and look around

And many illegals pay NO INCOME TAX, cause they are painting houses or mowing lawns, etc

BUT they get a tax refund when they use their TIN number (taxpayer identification number) and claim children they don't even have on a tax return. The sales taxes the illegals pay wouldn't cover 1/10th of the costs of the free school, free health care and police to investigate their crimes, jail, fraud, etc.

And not all illegals are fruit pickers...many take jobs that Americans would work and they are forcing more and more jobs to require someone that is bilingual. This admin allowed them to work the stimulus jobs by not requiring proof of citizenship. Many illegals are members of union and they can even claim worker's comp in some states.

Americans aren't stupid....we know these people are losers for everyone but the wealthy that benefit from the cheap labor, the attorneys that represent them in court, etc. How many extra police have to be hired for 12,000,000 extra people? "We only deport violent illegals"....we don't have the illegal's police records. so how do we know the illegals are violent?...We find only after they hurt or kill an American.

I don't think we should have to wait for that to happen.

Any money they pay in taxes gets eaten up by the public benefits they suck away at. Whether that be welfare for their anchor babies, emergency room trips, etc.
Plus, with their TIN number they get back every cent with 'earned income tax credit' PLUS more. Anther BS program that needs to be abolished.

I get it... you are convinced that all illegal immigrants are sub-human and you two are superior to EVERYONE....

I don't think anyone is sub-human (aside from rapists, pedophiles, murderers, etc). I happen to work with about a dozen LEGAL immigrants from India. I have nothing against LEGAL immigrants from any country or culture, aside from the fact currently with our unemployment I don't think we should importing any more labor until those here are working.

In Georgia, a 2011 crackdown on illegal immigrants caused many to be deported and more to flee the state. This caused a shortage of labor on the state's farms, indicating that illegal immigrants in that state do not compete very much with Americans for jobs.

Then fix the agriculture migrant labor issue. I have no problem with migrants coming up for seasonal work, without their families, without having anchor babies, and then going back home when the season ends, and coming back up when the next season starts. If we need migrant labor, then fix that. That is a BIG difference compared to just giving xx-million illegals amnesty.

Also, it isn't just ag jobs that they take. Plumbers, painters, construction workers, etc have lost a LOT of jobs to illegals since they can be paid cheap and under the counter. Ironically enough, the race that has been affected the most are blacks in the larger cities (check their unemployment numbers compared to all other races), yet they support obama the MOST. I honestly don't understand that at all. The people that support the president the most are the ones he HURTS the most. Almost like an abused spouse syndrome.

RI Mom. 285 billion to deport. That's if you do it the stupid...whoops, I mean...government way.

How do you get rid of the illegals on the cheap?

It is so simple it's mind numbing. Have the current administration uphold their oath of office and enforce the current immigration laws on the books. That is, start arresting and fining everyone who hires illegals. Soon, no one will hire them. There will be no work for them. Next, have the current administration uphold their oath of office and obey the law of the land and stop aiding and abetting the illegals by providing them with welfare.

There will be no incentive for them to come here, and no incentive for those here to stay. They will self-deport.

    Problem solved.

Also, (8) but not to receive federal benefits.

LOL! So you're going to tell an illegal alien with 3 or 4 anchor babies they can't get federal benefits for their American born, and therefore citizens, children?

You have no idea how the scam works, do you?

My best friend is from India, and will become a citizen next year. My Mother was born in Greece and became a citizen as a child (when my Grandparents became citizens). My fathers mother was born in Norway, of Norwegian and German parents. They immigrated and became citizens.

So I am either first or second generation on three sides of my family.

I do NOT support ILLEGAL 'immigrants', and never will. WE do not 'need' them.

Allen Omaha - Step down from the soap box. Never heard of the Bully Pulpit? And you are right, Obama has giving us " No functional description of what leadership is supposed to look like". I wholeheartedly agree!

      #1.49 - Tue Mar 12, 2013 7:54 PM EDT

When it comes to leadership, simply hold Obama to his own standards:

“The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means 'The buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.” - Senator Barack Obama, D-Ill, Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt, March 16, 2006

Apparently by his own standards, Obama is a failure. You can't logically argue with that....

And that draft better detail how they plan to pay for the $1+ trillion it will take to integrate the tens of millions of now illegal aliens into Obamacare when this legislation makes them legal residents.

This was the whole plan from Day 1. Score the cost of Obamacare without including illegals to make the cost more palatable, telling the nation that illegals will not be eligible, all while planning to make illegals legal. So when Joe Wilson shouted "You lie" and Obama claimed he wasn't, Obama was solely relying on a technicality because his plan from the beginning was just to make all illegals legal anyway.

When Barry "urgently" starts leading and works with both sides to decrease regs to increase jobs, cuts spending, works down the deficit, gets our fiscal house in order, then maybe we will think about his pet project to get votes for the dems in 2014 and pander to the hispanics. Until then FU Napolitano you are the embodiment of what is wrong in this corrupt admin. Stop trying to deflect us taxpayers, we aren't stupid like your welfare lapdogs.

Janet Napolitano should be securing the border instead of gabbing, sitting, and waiting. Unless she secures the border, at least on the issue of immigration she is useless. Just do it.

          #2.4 - Tue Mar 12, 2013 1:35 PM EDT

The border hasn't been secured for decades.

‘This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this.” - Senator Kennedy, 1986

A few questions: The border wasn't secured last time as promised. Why would anyone believe it will be secured this time?

Last time they said 1.1 - 1.3 million illegals. It was actually over 3 million. Who believes there are only 11-12 million in the country now?

"We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this.” Oh really. And who believes this will be the last one?

Amy, you might be right. The Republicans may not want this issue resolved. Why?

Latino groups to Obama: You owe Latinos the election, now pass immigration reform

"Leaders of immigrant rights and Latino groups told reporters in a conference call on Wednesday that Obama owes his second term to Latino voters, and should repay them by passing comprehensive immigration reform. Obama promised to pass a law legalizing many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country while he campaigned four years ago, and he's been chastised by Latino leaders for breaking his promise."

          http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/latino-groups-obama-owe-latinos-election-now-pass-194113601--election.html

Hispanics didn't vote for Obama or Democrats. They voted for amnesty. The Republicans realize this, and if they can be the ones offering amnesty, they just might get the Hispanic vote next time.

chick... "...the President that's taken the lead on deportation of illegal aliens..."

          You can't be serious.

All the illegals deported by Bush and Obama together doubled doesn't put a dent in the problem. Obama stepped up deportation on illegals who have committed crimes in addition to being in the country illegally. This way he can look like he's doing something and the likes of La Raza, MECHA, LULAC, etc can't complain because he's deporting criminals.

It’s all smoke and mirrors. What was it Lincoln said? Something like, "You can fool some of the people all of the time...."

You will know a politician is serious about illegal immigration when he/she cracks down on the employers who give them the incentive to come here in the first place.

Wouldn't it be More Productive if Our Elected Leaders Started Working Together as AMERICANS for AMERICANS and AMERICA, instead of just bickering, stalling and posturing for the next election as democrats and republicans! The American People have had it with this unproductive BS! The way that both parties having been operating for years just stinks! Neither party has really been looking out for the best interests of the US Citizens who elect them and who they're supposed to represent.

Both parties have sold out the bulk of the American citizens, who they're supposed to represent, by allowing the "out-sourcing" floodgates to open wider and wider without taking any sensible measures to stem the tide.

It shouldn't be all about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens. All the single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go!

Both parties need to start working together and actually start doing something to fix the real problems in our country like "out-sourcing", illegal immigration, the out of control costs of health care insurance and our reliance on foreign fuel. If they don't start working together and actually start making progress by the next election, then American citizens should run a nation-wide campaign to vote out all incumbents regardless of party to send the message.

We need to Stop ILLEGAL immigration! They're not just doing jobs that Americans don't want. Do they pay taxes? Don't get me wrong most of these people work very hard, but are a drain on the system if they don't pay taxes, have healthcare coverage, learn the language or get paid wages that are in line with their American counterparts. Who's footing the bill for the education of their children and the infrastructure around them? We all know that the health care provided to uninsured illegals here in the states is being averaged into our hospital costs and our insurance premiums, which have PROPORTIONATELY increased along with illegal immigration over the last 20 years? These costs are also being passed along to Medicaid and Medicare, which means that not only are they increasing our insurance premiums, but that we're paying for them again with our tax dollars.

Our tax dollars and insurance premiums should not be used to recoup the cost of healthcare given to illegal immigrants, who shouldn't even be here in our country in the first place.

To the people that disagree, we should ask them should this: If a few illegal immigrants knocked on your door and demanded that you pay some medical bills for them, would you pay them?

Just look around and you'll see who's doing 90% of the residential renovations, construction and property maintenance jobs. That's certainly what we're seeing in the northeast. These are not just jobs that Americans don't want.

Unfortunately the hiring of cheap illegal labor causes a chain reaction. The contractors who hire cheap, uninsured, non-taxpaying, ILLEGAL aliens undercut the contractors who hire US Citizens or Legal immigrants. Even if the contractor wants to continue to employ US Citizens or Legal tax-paying immigrants, they end up replacing their Legal employees with illegals just to be able to get the work.

Let's get the good productive ILLEGAL Aliens into the system and paying federal and state income tax or get them out and not let more in unless they come in as Legal Immigrants. Make them apply for legal visas and or U.S. citizenship and if they don't, then get them out. If they get rejected get them out or give them one quick appeal and if they still get rejected, then get them out.

Let's send the bad ILLEGAL Aliens back to where they came in and let's put a stop to more ILLEGAL Aliens getting in.

I wish the politicians in DC would listen to Sec. Napolitano---her unique perspective on immigration has experience as a border-state governor and as head of Homeland Security. If she says border control is in place and it is a good time to tackle immigration reform, let's listen to her and get it done.

Then let's get real reform to our laws. Let's double or triple the number of immigrants we allow in each year and remove those who have ignored our current laws. Let's use E-verify in all states and increase the penalties for hiring those who ignore our laws.

Stay tuned for my post on FT tomorrow morning ... just a snippet from a brief before the Supreme Court-

The data discussed above may seem inconsistent with media accounts, which often portray non-citizen voting fraud as pervasive. Based on amici’s experience, however, claims about such fraud are often highly exaggerated. See, e.g., Hasen, The Voting Wars(2012) (“Most of what gets called fraud in the media turns out to be innocent error or even coincidence.”). Colorado’s Secretary of State, for example, asserted in 2011 that 11,805 non-citizens were registered to vote there. See Moreno, Republicans Look For Voter Fraud. As those claims were challenged by voters and the press, that number dwindled by almost 99 percent, first to 3,903 and then to 141. And even that last number lacks integrity. After eight of the 141 were reported to have voted in Denver, the Denver clerk and recorder’s office investigated and found that all eight were citizens. Similarly, in Florida “the state’s Division of Elections said that as many as 180,000 registered voters weren’t citizens.” Moreno, Republicans Look For Voter Fraud. But when challenged that number was reduced by nearly 99.9 percent, first to 2,600 and then to 198.

They accoused others of "making things up" regarding the actual facts of Barry Soetoro's Kakistocracy Regime. Dem Poll Worker admits voting multiple times, then when this fact is stated, Soetoro's Henchmen accuse the messager of the actual facts of "making things up"... Welcome to the Kakistocracy Regime of Barry Soetoro. Of course, anyone who does not think a simple Internet Video caused the attacks at our Consulate in Benghazi, also "made things up". If illegals are using phony Social Security cards to get jobs than why isn't the SS Administration doing something about it. Why are illegals allowed to receive aid or welfare if in fact they are? Why are there children allowed to become citizens just because they are born here? If illegals can't vote why are the politicians catering to them? Or can they vote?

$$$$$$ in the coffers. They have to take out SS from the paycheck. If you know any illegals, they seem to have to go "back home" at and around April 15Th every year. You know, tax time when it will be someone else's tax return with the same SS number filed and they can't figure out where the additional income came from.

The Secretary should give a big shout out to economic stagnation, as that has slowed the flow of immigrants more than anything DHS has done. Saying she thinks the job of border security is an excuse not to do something else is her way of saying she intends to do nothing else on border security. Incredibly unhelpful comments if she truly wants to see immigration reform.

In any case, the real lying here is from the administration itself. It should come as no surprise that they are playing games with statistics to create a false impression. It wasn’t enough that Obama inherited an infrastructure built up by the two previous administrations to deport many more illegal and criminal aliens than before — they had to lie in order to be able to boast of a “record level” of deportations. Representative Lamar Smith, House Judiciary chairman, has unearthed the facts on the Obama administration’s statistical lies.

The reason this matters is that, as Representative Smith determined, the administration has started counting certain “returns” as “removals” in order to artificially inflate the numbers and create a “record level” of deportations. Specifically, those illegals caught by the Border Patrol who are shuttled to a different town along the border before they’re returned are being dishonestly counted as deportations. The point of this Alien Transfer Exit Program (ATEP) is to disrupt smuggling networks and make it harder to just keep crossing until you get through. But they’re still just returns, without any “administrative or criminal consequences placed on subsequent reentry.” This has falsely increased the number of total removals by more than 100,000 in the past two years. Smith noted, “When the numbers from this Border Patrol program are removed from this year’s deportation data, it shows that removals are actually down nearly 20% from 2009.”

The far right has an excellent strategy. They will try to turn any discussion into a budget debate to block debate on anything except the budget, then they refuse to engage in honest discussions about the budget under the guise of "compromise is capitulation".

We need to work around them or we'll never get anything done in this country. Janet is RIGHT!

BearDown, you need to get it "right", you lambast the nameless "far right", yet accuse Janet is "right". There are those of right mind, the rest are just of the Left.

Ronald reagan gave amnesty to about 3 million illegals in the 80's. The deal was he would give amnesty and the dems said they would secure the border. Well he signed the amnesty and the dems never secured the border. Can you not understand why most of us are leary about their promises and why securing the border has to be the first step in the process.

I thought CIC was responsible for securing the borders? That's what I've been hearing for the last 4 years!

Now, is congress responsible???? Is that how you absolve Reagan from securing the border?

Citing a plague of “cost overruns and missed deadlines,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Tuesday that she would cut millions of dollars intended for a high-tech “virtual fence” along the Mexican border that has produced little more than headaches for the federal government.
Ms. Napolitano said her department would divert about $50 million in federal stimulus money intended for the project to other technological needs on the border, including laptops, radios, thermal-imaging devices and cameras requested by border guards.

If and when construction comes roaring back you will see increased illegals coming across the border. Also for businesses that need migrant workers the same applies. The number of illegals is staying nearly the same because of business conditions. When business gets bettter employers start hiring more Americans and illegals. Please don't be a democratic whuss and call them undocumented.

Incorrect terminology in this article. The President is not waiting for Immigration Reform. I have seen no proposal to change the numbers of Immigrants allowed to come here legally or to increase the punishments on employers caught hiring people who bypass our immigration laws. Nor have I seen any proposal from our President to make E-verify mandatory in all states.

What I have seen is an attempt to change the penalty for those who have ignored our laws from deportation to a path to citizenship while remaining in the US and having permission to work as well. Apparently there is a belief that if enough people ignore a law, then we not only have to forgive them, but we also have to reward them and punish those who obey the law. In order to be fair to all of those already in line we need to deport those who are already here without permission so they can wait in the back of the line along with those who have followed our law and waiting patiently.

Unemployment gone down during the Obama Adm? He started at 7.8%, this past month for the 1st time the rate is lower at 7.7% in his entire OVER 4 years in office. This is 'achieved" by the record 87.8 million OUT of the Workforce. When one gives up looking for employment, they are considered to have left the American "work force." Once someone leaves the work force, they are not used to calculate the unemployment rate. As more and more people leave the work force, the unemployment rate becomes more inaccurate because it counts less people as unemployed. As of right now the "unemployment rate" is 7.7%. However, when the almost 90 million Americans who have given up hope for a job and have stopped looking are included along with the people working part time who want to work full time, the real unemployment rate (also known as the underemployment rate) rises to a shocking 19.1%.

Oh, did I also mention Obama has another record, a record in the # on foodstamps.

The number of illegal immigrants, crossing the border in anticipation of amnesty, is staggering.

Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector
FY2013 February apprehensions of 11,419 est.
                    FY2012 February apprehensions of 6,707
                    FY2011 February apprehensions of 4,232

SAY NO TO AMNESTY, OR WHATEVER ELSE THEY CHOOSE TO CALL IT

With the proposed amnesty/probationary legal status, or whatever it is being called, plus Janet Napolitano's release of detained illegal immigrants, coupled with the sequestration cuts to our Southwest Border Protection, the Perfect Storm, for an Invasion of our United States, has been created.

BP spokesman Enrique Mendiola. has released McAllen Station (part of the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector) December, January, and February, apprehension numbers, to the local media. (The Monitor)

Based on the McAllen Station numbers, a projection for the total Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector February apprehension numbers would be 11,419, as compared to the FY2011, and FY2012 numbers, as shown below.

Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Monthly Apprehensions*
                    ----------OCT---NOV---DEC---JAN---FEB
FY2013--8871--8355--6588 (+49% for the first three months)
                    FY2012--6203--5513--4285--5514--6707-----Total--97,762 +65% over FY2011
                    FY2011--3630--3624--3349--3485--4232-----Total--59,243

With the enticement of citizenship, plus the planned further release of detained illegal immigrants, and the cutting of Border Patrol hours, the situation on our Southwest border will only become worse, as time progresses, with more, and more, destitute illegal immigrants, clamoring to be gifted American citizenship, without having to worry about detention.

This is a nightmare for Americans.

                    Thank you,
