Obamas, Clintons broke bread at the White House last week

It turns out that the president’s recent meal with Republican senators wasn't the only dinner party he's held this month with famous folks in Washington.

The president and the First Lady dined at the White House with former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week, the White House confirmed Friday.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest characterized the March 1 get-together as a “private dinner” but declined to offer further details about what was discussed.

While Obama’s former presidential rival Hillary Clinton has been taking time out of the spotlight after her departure from Foggy Bottom, former president Bill Clinton made headlines this morning with an op-ed advocating for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage act, which he signed in 1996.

The dinner was first reported by POLITICO.

Hey, Gil-2872519

What happened to the sequester? Didn't Obama lose the chef and the waiters?

Now I know why the GOP wanted a sequester! So hard-working people will lose their jobs. I thought Boehner promised to created jobs instead of forcing a sequester to cause job losses.

It was more than likely a briefing to Hillary from two of the greatest liars this country has ever seen. One being impeached for telling lies and the other with his ongoing litany of blame everyone but himself. I can imagine the coaching going on around the dinner table. I'll bet it wasn't pork loin.

I can hear Hillary cackle as Bill was telling her to deny everything followed up by Obama saying it's never your fault.

Don't get me wrong... I'm sure they had their serious intentions too. How best to keep the government growing, how to spend the most amount of money at taxpayers expense, how to increase budgets and taxes at the same time... and how to eliminate republicans from any sort of power. You know, nice light talk amongst friends. For dessert they shared some baked Alaska while rolling on the floor laughing that Sarah Palin was taken out by color over gender. Contingency plans were made to eliminate any attempt by republicans to offer up an African American in 2016 by shifting the name calling to misogyny instead of racist. They weren't sure what to do if the republicans offered up an African American female though.

other than being eight years older what does hil bring this time that she didn't have last time? she was the front-runner until the fear of racism entered the democrat voter mindset and the unproven, inexperienced junior senator from illinois beat her courtesy of the left tossing (pushing) her under the bus.

what if another man of color - say castro - enters the scene, with the hispanics going for him (true to the identity politics of the left) ole hil will again be looking at the familiar scene from underneath?

Granted...I'm dunking on my son's Nerf hoop that hangs in the doorway...but still, call me when Blake Griffin bounces the ball off a ceiling fan, a light fixture and does a 360 dunk over Matchbox cars! ;-)

Imagine that, the Obamas and Clintons dining in the White House. I'm surprised the news didn't get out sooner. Actually, that is nice. Mrs. Clinton did a great job as Sec of State; former Pres Clinton was a great help in getting President Obama re-elected. I'm glad to see a friendship forming between the two families.

Ido, Haiti is NOT a US territory; we send volunteers, aid and money but we can't fix the country for them. Your effort to poke at President Clinton ignores that President George W. Bush was part of the team.

BigJeff

Way to tell him.

How pathetic can a liberal get? You know that the biggest liar to ever to occupy the White House was scumbag Bill Clinton. I often wondered why the feminists didn't throw that scumbag under the bus for sending his wife out to lie for him. Do you think she knew she was lying? I do.

Big Jeff - I guess it's all about proportion and what is pertinent. Since Bush didn't put the "Mission Accomplished" sign up... and he just happened to be there... you are free to call that a lie all you want, just don't let the facts get in the way of your perceptions. I have no excuse for Cheney in shooting someone... he has to answer for that but I'm sad to see how terribly it effected your life.

It's funny you bring up two things about those you oppose but fail to recognize the lies and deceptions of those you are in favor of. I imagine you are one of those people who completely ignore any and all of Obama's deceptions as if he isn't speaking them at all. Selective posturing is the cousin of hypocracy.

They know Republicans have absolutely NOTHING to offer so they are relegated to making up lies and spewing their ongoing hatred of anything Obama.

It's truly pathetic - but it's all they have!

Edgar,

I was just bringing up the two funniest. Bush standing in front of that sign. Still cracks me up, but if you think he didn't know it was there or that he didn't want his image associated with that banner, you really are delusional. Chaney shot that guy and nobody called any EMS or law enforcement until the next morning? Just saying...

I don't have the stamina to go over all of the lies that little stupid man put out. Weapons of Mass Distruction? Again, he was lying or he was very, very stupid. I'm on the fence.

I also don't have the desire to try to change your mind about why you wold be better off being a liberal, there Old Dog.

Our government has taken on a culture of litigation. There's a reason most people don't like most lawyers. Their intent is not to define or discover the truth, but to pick a side and fight like hell to stubbornly stay there. That is exactly how our prestigeous leaders in Congress act.

We posters have unfortunately adopted the same culture. Your guy (or cause) sucks; mine will solve all the world's problems.

I wouldn't become a liberal if your life depended on it... sorry, dem's the breaks. To me being liberal involves a certain type of bondage, one I don't want ruling over my life. I cannot turn my favor over to a politician. Liberals have done it without question. Their dedication to Obama is unbelievable. I won't risk my thought on being controlled while liberals do it all the time. Obama says it, liberals believe it and to them that's the end of the story. No can do! Jody, Iowa......"Ido, Haiti is NOT a US territory; we send volunteers, aid and money but we can't fix the country for them. Your effort to poke at President Clinton ignores that President George W. Bush was part of the team."

Duuuuh, never said Haiti was a U.S. TERRORITY.

Not too much of an effort to find out Billy is leading the charge for DISTRIBUTION OF HAITIAN FUNDS provided by the U.S.:

The U.S. government will transfer $120 million -- about one-tenth of the total amount pledged -- to the World Bank-run Haiti Reconstruction Fund in the next few days, U.S. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said.

"Having completed the process as outlined in the appropriation, we are now moving aggressively to commit that money to Haiti's reconstruction," Crowley said.

A State Department aide said money destined for the fund would go toward rubble removal, housing, a partial credit guarantee fund, support for an Inter-American Development Bank education reform plan and budget support for the Haitian government. The fund's projects must be endorsed by the reconstruction commission co-chaired by former President Bill Clinton and Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive.

http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/11/us_funds_finally_headed_to_hai.html

There are only 500,000 Haitians currently living in TENTS. Great job, Mr. Clinton:

Again, Haitians are still living in TENTS. So chaulk one up for Mr. Clinton's non-peformance. Just follow the money.

Both she and Fisty Dye Jar both went to the same funeral the other day, are they one in the same?

And folks were thinking the $ 500,000 per person was going towards Mr. Obama's agenda. It will be redirected to the Clinton "WAR" chest.

Sorry but the wars all belong to the neo-cons and they are having a hay day with the unending wars not going on in Syria/Egypt/Libya/et al.....

" ... Your guy (or cause) sucks; mine will solve all the world's problems. ... "

No. My guy sucks too. Just not as bad as yours did/does.

No. My guy lies too. Just didn't get as many people killed in doing it as yours did.

Mine will not solve many of the worlds problems. But I hope he wont cause as many of them as yours did.

You? You want to deny that yours even existed. And you want to blame mine for @!$%# yours did.

Me? I will, and am, blaming mine for @!$%# he did. I will also blame him for @!$%# he didn't do. And I will deny none of what really belongs to him.

    You? Don't make me laugh.

Yes, the entertaining of important people, Politicians, and Hollywood Celebrities will go on as usual in the White House, costing a fortune--but there is no money for Touring the White House--where young families and their children could have good historical memories for a lifetime--mine did many years old, and still talk about it--

There is something out of whack with the logic of Obama---what he is doing is instilling pain on ordinary citizens of the United States who voted for him---we are going to pay for his illogical Sequestration choices---the US Government are doing studies on Swine Manure--this is true. Look it up. Where do they get the money for that--yes, the dummies of the United States through our taxes! That's us!

Now the Clinton's and the Obama's are friends. Hmmmmmm 4 1/2 years ago, Hillary was snubbed and treated like 'dirt" by Obama, when it came to becoming a Candidate for President. Memory is short; but Politics stinks.

WCA, not sure if I agree. While the indescrimate slashing of all government agencies will be harsh hopefully the economy can weather the sequester.

Be of good cheer there is some good news on the economic front with the UE number going down to 7.7 and 236,000 people getting jobs last month. Why even read a report that car sales are expected to explode because people like business are finally becoming more confident to spend/hire.

I am glad that the nation learned with certainty that tax rates for those making over $450,000 will go up. Sure the fiscal cliff deal should have included middle class tax cuts going away too but oh well. Also it is a certainty that Obama care will go into effect, even GOP governors in Florida, Michigan and Virginia are signing on the create health exchanges to work with the feds. Uncertainty was always claimed to be a problem in job growth and recovery. Certainty - Tax rates going up and Obama care being fully implemented. A real chance at comprehensive immigration reform and additional tax reform, entitlement reform.

Life is good, to quote my yellowdog avatar.

Well Mark, I guess I disagree. I think you have fallen into the trap of the "New Normal"

Come on up to Detroit and I'll show you just how things are here.

Celebrating 7.7% unemployment while a record 90 million people are not in the labor force up 270,000 in the last 3 months. (BTW the Baby Boomer retiree argument doesn't hold water. In the good old days when someone retired, there job was usually filled with a new employee. Now it just goes away.)

Gas has doubled in price in the last 4 years.

Government spending grows exponentially every year.

In fact, a study showed recently that most Americans can't even afford to buy a new car.

New car sales have most likely plateaued. The pent up demand from 2010-2011 has been met.

Those Governors are signing on to exchanges because they were forced to Mark.

Tell me, how do we ever recover from the Trillions of dollars of debt we incur each and every year.

Sooner or later, the dollar is worthless, Mark, and I think at the rate we are going it is going to be sooner.

                Cat,

I'm sure you are aware that the Government has started selling off their shares of GM. Losing billions with each transaction. When all is said and done, probably close to $15 Billion Dollars.

Wonder why there is so little news about that?

This year at the NAIAS the big GM news was the new Corvette Stingray. A 450 HP monster. Not quite what the President had in mind.

Do you have any idea how many they will need to sell to make a profit? It's what they call a Halo car, Cat. Something you do when you have a lot of money cuz it ain't gonna make 'em any money.

Times haven't changed at GM, Cat. Same old, same old and it's just a matter of time before the next crisis.

WCA, we recover from our increasing debt by getting people back to work at reasonable wages so they begin to pay taxes. We close loopholes for the wealthy and stop subsidies to corporations that are making more than any corporations in the history of the plant. We eliminate the Social Security cap, which is now fixed at $106,000 per year, so that the more you make, the more you pay.

The dollar is still far from worthless, because inflation is only about 1.3% a year.

By the way, the national deficit has been cut in half since 2009 -- from 10% of GDP to 5%. Next year's will be smaller still.

When you consider all other things news reporting could cover, this is bottom feeding. The names and the event are not newsworthy but in today's celebrity news style, it would go to the top of the list. Doesn't make it right... only goes to show you how enamored people are with this type of story. We live in an age where the winners of American Idol are more important than items that really effect people's lives. Sad to say in the least.

WCA - From a Rueters report in late November 2012.

General Motors Co's head of North American operations, Mark Reuss, said the aging vehicles remain a powerful driver for sales and the specter of the fiscal cliff is not driving decision-making at the U.S. automaker. "There's still a lot of pent-up demand," he said. "I'm not making production decisions on it."

Analysts and executives predict an annual sales rate in November of 14.8 million to 15.3 million vehicles, rebounding from October's disappointing results when superstorm Sandy affected buying in the last few days of the month.

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas, who expects a November annual rate of 15 million vehicles, pointed to the advanced age of many vehicles on the road, a factor industry officials have been touting for at least a year. The average age of a car has hit a record high of almost 11 years.

"It's pent-up demand and not just a Sandy rebound," Jonas said in a research note. "Most of this demand reflects the buoyancy in consumer expectations."

                ___

The Bush recession and slowly mending Obama recovery has meant that cars are aging as people keep them longer. Projections do show that we can be in for a spurt in purchases.

Also although I defer to your inside knowledge of Detroit and cars in general I was thinking about your argument about the Corvette. The amount of Corvette Stingrays a niche car will probably not make money, wouldn't GM's family cars make them a profit to compensate? Or how about GMC pickups probably their best seller, a big spike could also be a good indicator for construction jobs, workers, DIY homeowners hauling stuff. A corvette no matter how cool it looks doesn't pay GMC's bills like a white pick up truck does.

The "New Normal" is that the show after "Modern Family"?

Mark, when gas get's to $5 a gallon this summer, Truck sales will begin to fall.

It is they way our President wants it.

Same thing happened in 2008. It was the first crack in the demise of the Auto industry, then and it will be just as harmful when it happens again.

Trucks and SUV's. IF we can't sell 'em, we're in trouble.

amy -- i believe we heard obama say much more to hillary than you seem to recall.

On foreign policy, Obama again said better judgment trumps longer experience. He mocked Clinton, saying that she drove the "bus into the ditch" along with President Bush with the decision to invade Iraq.

and how about this one -- Obama said Clinton's plan, by making coverage compulsory, would impose harsh penalties on people who couldn't afford it. (at the time he was attacking her ideas and then magically he adopted them.)

this one was cute: "She knows better. Shame on her. Shame on her. She knows better. She is running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen. She, how she values the second amendment, she's talking like she is Annie Oakley."

and he even had the nerve to say this: Later, at a Monday forum on manufacturing, he referred to footage of her knocking back a beer with a whiskey chaser in a Pennsylvania bar, saying she was a typical politician. "They'll promise you anything, give you a long list of proposals and even come around, with TV crews in tow, to throw back a shot and a beer."

Well, this is news, it just isn't NEWS. If there were only Earth-shaking stories here the list would be pretty short. Sometimes you have to have general interest stories too. Read a newspaper sometime, you know those wonderful publications that are almost gone for examples.

Oh yes -- the nation is just going to hell -- 240,000 new jobs last month, a record high DOW, housing is coming back, the lowest unemployment rate for more than 4 years, record profits among Fortune 500 companies --- things are just falling apart!!!!

BS. Taxes are at a 70 year low in this nation. He wanted to increase taxes on the top 1/2% back to where they were in the Clinton administration when we saw the greatest economic expansion in the history of the nation. In case you forgot -- President Obama cut taxes on the middle class in his first year in office.

Now, if you believe that, you should probably vote for him, but you get a very bad grade in history.” — April 17, 2008, Lock Haven, Pa., campaign speech

sky -- constantly hear the great job she did as ss but it is hard to find an quantifiable evidence to support that statement. i will grant that she was a road warrior though in and of itself not much. here are some thoughts from the web:

"You look across the world now at the major issues. Are Arabs and Israelis closer to peace? How about Iran and North Korea and their nuclear programs: Have they been halted or seriously set back?”

“Has the ‘reset’ with Russia, which she so famously introduced with the photo-op in Moscow with the reset button, has that led to a new and more cooperative relationship?” he continued.

“Is there a ‘Clinton Doctrine’ that we can identify that she has articulated and formed as secretary of state? Are there major treaties that she has undertaken and negotiated through to a successful conclusion? I think the answer to all those questions is that she has not. And those are the kinds of things that might mark her as a great secretary of state.”

in the end she was competent but not great.

I want to know just when are republicans going to grow up?

They have not asked this many questions about 9/11 or that the bush administration was warned about even to the detail they would be using planes. Or how about the war in Iraq that we were lied to by our own republican leaders? I guess 4000 dead Americans mean much less to republicans than 4 Americans dead that they can try and spread lies and conspiracy theories about democrats. Right, funnygirl?

From the way the republicans act you would think that President Obama planned the attacks himself.

What bothers me the most about republicans is they won the house running on jobs, jobs, jobs in 2010 and have not created or voted for one job. Instead the republicans want austerity that could send our country back into another recession and ironically make us lose jobs.

While some want to make small of the cut of spending of 2% while forgetting our economy only grew about .5% the last quarter.

I am tired of going from one republican created economic disaster to another every few months. We just had an election where the people spoke and the republicans are doing everything they can to stand in the way of the will of the people.

Just like background checks, republicans are always for the rich (gun manufactures in this case) and never for the will of the people.

This was one that particularly bothered me. That the pain of the sequester should only hurt the poor among us and never affect the ones in congress who let it happen.

That somehow the tours that the senators give as perks to their donors is desired by them the rich elite so they think the cuts should go elsewhere and only affect others.

If you were given the choice of letting an American child go hungry or end the white house tours, what would you do? But in an republicans mind it is only another reason to hate our president.

The 1% are immune to the effects of a recession, so let's go ahead and flirt with slowing the economy to preserve tax loopholes for hedge fund managers.

Gosh I guess I didn't know that giving tours to children was so much more important than seeing them get food.

Too bad the republicans forgot that Americans concern for jobs meant creating them and not killing them.

Meanwhile broker is repeating his talking points he got from the same people who lied us to the Iraq war. The same ones who had lied to republicans so much that they couldn't believe they lost the election. But of course now that they are lying about our president and our economy surely you believe every word.

When the sequester really kicks in, you will see the pain and the damage to our economy and won't have to wonder who is lying anymore.

broker1: 1) it costs $74,000 per week for WH tours; that's $3,848,000 per year. Your side insisted on budget cuts, don't complain when you don't like what is cut. 2) the cost of private meals for every presidential family, including private dinners with friends, is paid for by the family.

As every previous president has, President Obama's family pay for their own meals, that includes dinners with friends. Taxpayers only pay for State Dinners, and special events such as the Easter, Christmas events which are traditions.

Meanwhile the republicans are busily taking women's right of choice away from wherever they have the majority.

When they are not making women into second class citizens, they are trying to suppress the vote as the only way they can see winning elections.

The republicans only kept the house because of extreme gerrymandering that is doing nothing but blocking the will of the people who voted for a balanced solution.

And yet they would have you believe it is the democrats who are threatening your freedoms.

Budget surplus compared to his predecessor that got rid of it in less than a year and a half, destroyed the economy, got us into two wars, one unfounded, gave to the rich and stole from the poor. Obama could do better without the partisan crap from Texans and the southern confederacy. Shame them! We need a new direction, where kids are educated, new energy ideas, new businesses HERE! Here we go with the gossip! What difference does it make what someone and his guest discusses at dinner? It's a free country and they can talk about whatever they want. Perhaps Obama was using the dinner to thank Hillary for a stellar job as Secretary of State. Maybe they just made small talk as people do in casual dinner parties among friends. If any of the participants want us to know they'll tell us. Until then it is none of our damn business.

I don't think the republicans have to worry about Hillary Clinton. They always have Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann to counter with.

Those are the three wing nuts, left/right/and down right spooky, that the thought of, is terrifying. Altho, I might can handle a four day weekend with Palin, but, not 4 years. And, Bachmann has proven she can deep throat 12 inches. Burrito/foot long hot dog, whatever it was, but the capability is there. Hillary has an excellent track record of being gut truck dog ugly. Also helps that she can lie with the best of them.

The king and Hillary were discussing the transition of power, from him to her in 2016. Bill and Michelle were discussing what wardrobe he should be putting together for when he takes over as first lady.

No White House tours but the White House chef makes 100 grand a yr. Michelle has the largest staff of any first lady, a 20 car motorcade to go one half mile for dinner a couple of nights ago. My, my, funny how they have more than enough money for their luxury life. The most hypocritical president ever, along with his over-indulgent wife.

President and Mrs Carter were the most frugal people who ever lived in the White House and Republicans never cease ridiculing them, so I think we can ignore the "Moochelle" complaint as nonsense.

selfemployed - still repeating lies that have been debunked over and over and over! Our First Lady's staff is the same number as Laura Bush's and the other first Lady's. You're an idiot to keep posting lies that any first grader could debunk - much less adults.

The most hypocritical and disgusting President is and will always be George W. Bush. All of the First Lady's have been treated as Michelle Obama - no difference AT ALL.

                                  Breaking Bread with America

                                  Obama Care

I just sat through an Obama Care Seminar. Not many people there maybe five. What the rest of America doesn't realize that by 2015 Americans are going to be forced to have health coverage or pay a penalty.

There are however stipulations to having to pay for Obama Care. But you must attend one of the seminars that are free to public to understand.

Don't listen to the phone monkies. Attend one yourself.

What Obama Care will do is make Americans responsible.

Remember there are stipulations that if you meet the requirements you will not be forced to buy the insurance or pay a fine.

One hope of Obama Care is that it will make those on welfare who are screwing everyone by having four or five kids who suck our tax dollars out of the system realize that they ALSO will have to buy the insurance or pay a fine thus taking the money that they have taken away from and putting it back into the system where it belongs.

Now since the government is pick pocketing Americans Americans need to pick pocket them back.

Politicians or any government worker that has a worth over $1,000,000 upon retirement shall not receive a tax payer backed retirement.

There is no reason why someone like George Bush or Paul Ryan who are worth $35,000,000 and $5,000,000 respectively should be entitled to a retirement based off of tax payer money.

Such government workers, including politicians, not exceeding $100,000 including all assets both American based and foreign based, this means a Swiss Bank Account, If any government worker earns a paycheck over $100,000 and has assets valuing over a $1,000,000 then a 10% return of their paycheck based upon tax dollars would be taken from their paycheck and put back into programs for America.

Example: If a government worker earns $100,000 a year based upon tax dollars and has assets that value $2,000,000, either in domestice or foreign equity, then 20% of their paycheck, which comes from tax payer dollars or $20,000 would be taken from their yearly paycheck and put back into America's social services.

They pick pocket us every day and call the acts of other Socialism.

But in retrospect the politician is committing an act of Socialism by standing at a podium creating words and asking for money for what they have said only to continue to take from the tax payer when THEY do not need.

Politicians - Socialism at its finest.

Hillary had my support in 2008 right up till she flubbed the war question and Obama did not. I wanted so much to vote for the first woman president but I consoled myself with knowing that I now had the chance to vote for tha first black POTUS. Everyone who follows politics knows she lost over the war questions plain and simple and the fact that the dems had the two most competent people running was an added benefit. Anyway it seems I will get my woman in the White House after all and it is nice to know I will be on the right side of history again. Just saying

Let's see. 95% of African-Americans voted for Obama. I'm sure that was not a racial thing. It just couldn't be. I'll be willing to bet you that 95% of women don't vote for Hillary. And then, people like Nick, admit to casting a racially motivated ballot. Stupid is as stupid does.

nope...95% of African-Americans voted Democrat, something I know they've done since Clinton was in office. Just so happened that Democrat was of mixed race(white mother, Black father) and looks Black. Good argument, but it's a loaded one Derek.

Another thing about Obama Care - Just because the government has controll over it doesn't mean that Americans can goto other countries seeking their health insurance.

After all America is a Free Market and insurance providers are part of that market.

This means that Americans are able to seek health insurers in other countries based upon the Free Market System.
