VIDEO: First Read Minute: All eyes on CPAC

NBC's Mark Murray reports all political eyes will be fixed on the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) next week. This year's notable speakers include many potential 2016 candidates and past presidential candidates. However, there is one popular Republican leader who was not invited to address the conference: Chris Christie.

Video edited by NBC's Natalie Cucchiara.

I think their acronym is misleading (CPAC): Conservative Political Action Conference should be Conservative Political Action CHURCH. And that's the problem with that group - if they'd keep religion and politics separate, they might be a little more popular!

The biggest thing to come out of CPAC will be the already obvious fact that Conservatives have concluded their 2012 electoral failure was all about the messaging, not at all about the policies. And xenophobia. And misogyny.

Then Republicans will reemerge with marching orders from the Adelsons, Anschutz's, and Kochs to go forth and blow up whatever glimmer of compromise tantalized us this week.

I only hope that by mentioning blow ups it hasn't awakened Little Ceasar.

The South and Red states gave the country two hispanic senators (Cruz, Rubio) two indian governors (Haley, Jindal) and the only African American Senator (Scott) plus the great former congressman Allen West who the establishment gerrymandered out of his seat with a new district. All of these Tea Party favorites were elected by majority white voters over white GOP Establishment types because of their principals and policy positions. So much for the racist crap.

You lost me at "great former congressman Allen West".

The same Allen West who was kicked out of the military for abusing a prisoner?

The same Allen West who said that all "78 to 81" Democrats who were members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus were Communists?

Some of his more infamous quotes:

"Take your message of equality of achievement. … You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America.” - talking about Liberals

“I must confess, when I see anyone with an Obama 2012 bumper sticker, I recognize them as a threat to the gene pool.”

“Every time I see one of those bumper stickers, I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country. Would give away who we are, our rights and freedoms and liberties because they are afraid to stand up and confront that which is the antithesis, anathema of who we are.” - talking about the "COEXIST" bumber stickers

“The Democratic appetite for ever-increasing redistributionary handouts is in fact the most insidious form of slavery remaining in the world today”

Anyone who considers this nutjob "great" cannot be taken seriously.

Thankfully more intelligent heads prevailed and he lost his reelection campaign in 2012.

Lil' Michelle,

Sorry to interrupt your "interesting" thoughts with facts, but here is a quick breakdown of the 113th Congress by Race and Gender.

House of Representatives

79 women - 60 Democrats, 19 Republicans

40 African-Americans, all Democrats

33 Hispanics - 25 Democrats, 8 Republicans

9 Asian-Americans, all Democrats; 2 Native American Indians - 1 D, 1 R

Senate:

20 women - 16 Democrats and 4 Republicans

1 African-American, Republican (appointed NOT elected)

3 Hispanics - 1 Democrat, 2 Republicans

So despite your "Tea Party" claims, the majority of the Republican minority candidates were elected in open statewide races, not by "majority white voters over white GOP establishment types".

Why so few women? Why so few minorities in the Tea-party controlled House races?

Wouldn't it be More Productive if Our Elected Leaders Started Working Together as AMERICANS for AMERICANS and AMERICA, instead of just bickering, stalling and posturing for the next election as democrats and republicans! The American People have had it with this unproductive BS! The way that both parties having been operating for years just stinks! Neither party has really been looking out for the best interests of the US Citizens who elect them and who they're supposed to represent.

Both parties have sold out the bulk of the American citizens, who they're supposed to represent, by allowing the "out-sourcing" floodgates to open wider and wider without taking any sensible measures to stem the tide.

It shouldn't be all about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens. All the single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go!

Both parties need to start working together and actually start doing something to fix the real problems in our country like "out-sourcing", illegal immigration, the out of control costs of health care insurance and our reliance on foreign fuel. If they don't start working together and actually start making progress by the next election, then American citizens should run a nation-wide campaign to vote out all incumbents regardless of party to send the message.

The ONLY REAL FIX is to Raise Revenue, by Bringing Back Jobs to US Citizens who Pay Income Tax.

Massive cutting just puts more people on unemployment, which just depresses the economy even further.

Returning private sector jobs to American Citizens will provide income tax revenue to OUR Government versus our government having to pay unemployment benefits to those who would be jobless instead. We need our elected officials to Start Protecting American Jobs and do whatever it takes to bring back the jobs they let go. We need leaders who will actually stand up for the American people.

The bottom line is that “Our Government” has to protect domestic industry and the jobs that those industries provide. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.

We may have to pay a bit more for products made here in the USA by US citizens, but at least we'll still have jobs and a future for our children.

And yes - I'm Angry - As are most American Citizens right now!

I disagree...there is more bailouts to banks and AIG than green energy.

But I do welcome a 'GOP comeback' ONLY for the benefits of a two-party system, but the voters will be the judge on that...so far, the prospect for a 'GOP comeback' is not so good, even though history is on the GOP side. In the 6th year of a president, the other party most likely makes a major comeback (remember 2006 as a recent example?).

Big difference Pig. The banks (for the majority) and AIG paid back the money they "borrowed" (not going to bring up Government Motors). The green energy dollars, I think they got caught up in the windmills and chopped to shreds and then the remnants burned on the solar panels.

Rather than truly doing something that may have saved jobs and a company, it was done from pure ideology and wanting to portray the persona that "I truly care" to satisfy constituents who bought his pound of Oscar Meyer on global warming and needing "alternative energy". And it wasn't hot dogs. He didn't investigate (or so they would like us to think as the indicators were all there and thus the "hurry up and decide" push from his advisers) fully and just jumped on. Not all his fault. His handlers gave him bogus info and let him make a fool of himself.

He did the same here in NC with a furniture maker who was on the mend (except no money) and now they are closed after only nine months since his visit. But then they were the "glowing example of the American spirit and drive".

Your Kim Jong Un impression is a riot Comrade!... But I haven't seen anyone on here make any self- proclamations about their intellect except Lil Michelle, and she hit it so far out of the park that everyone knew the bat was corked.

When the opposition paints themselves into corners as if someone pays them to, it makes others appear more intellectual. The root cause isn't the normal people.

Well, in all fairness, ComradeChaos, you still look better than I do - I am a pig.

Take it easy. Actually your avatar is eye-catching and amusing. I like it.

All eyes on CPAC.!!! Whose eyes, having eyes see not ? It will be just few days of Obama bashing, nothing concrete can come from the stupid party. The line up of stars/clowns are already jockeying for their spot with Trump the ringmaster. It is going to be worst then the Convention.
