In the last three months, the GOP-dominated House of Representatives has passed three pieces of major legislation that made it to the president’s desk -- without the support of a majority of Republicans.
But House Speaker John Boehner has a message for lawmakers: Don’t get used to it.
At a press conference Tuesday, Boehner said that violating the "Hastert Rule" -- the unwritten rule that Republican leaders only bring legislation to the floor if the majority of the GOP caucus supports it -- is "not a practice I expect to continue in the long term."
Since the beginning of the year, Boehner has had to break the GOP tenet -- first articulated by former Speaker Dennis Hastert -- three times.
The January fiscal cliff deal, a relief package for Superstorm Sandy victims and the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act all became law only after a minority of House Republicans joined Democrats to back the bills.
It’s a real world approach the speaker has used in the face of revolt from within his own conference. But it’s prompted grumbles from more conservative members who say he’s marginalizing his own party by allowing bills to pass with mostly Democratic support.
With big-ticket issues like gun control and immigration legislation slated to hit the floor later this year, Boehner’s statement could mean a tougher path to congressional compromise for bills that don’t get a thumbs up from most Republican representatives.
Boehner hinted Tuesday that immigration reform will require broad support from both sides of the aisle in order to make it through the legislative meat-grinder.
"We need to continue to work in bipartisan fashion like we have been to make it happen,” he told reporters.

I don't expect Boehner passing anything other then repealing ObamaCare for the 35th time!
There is a reason the 112th Congress will go down in the history books, as the least productive EVER!
Unless, the 113th wants to challenge them for the title!
DOW AT ALL-TIME HIGH:
The Dow Jones industrial average, which measures the performance of 30 blue-chip companies, passed its all-time high Tuesday morning, despite fears that automatic spending cuts contained in the sequester could hamper economic growth. The Dow last traded at these levels on Oct. 9, 2007 when it closed at 14,164.53.
http://www.washingtonpost.com
And if he doesn’t pass bills that need Dems, get a near majority of Dems he cannot and should not expect then to see the light of day in the Senate
Your choice, Boehner. Either do your job, or pander to your unpopular base. I say go for the latter. It guarantees a wipe out of the GOP/TP party in 2014.
Backhouse
Further proof Wall Street lives in a different reality than the rest of the country. The sequester will push unemployment up and hamper research and development, but, hey, those hedge fund managers get to keep their loopholes, so they will get richer and richer while the rest of the country grows poorer.
Let's not forget, they will go after Planned Parenthood for about the 50th time, and rename a post office or two.
The worst speaker ever, who has sold out a Nation to keep his job!!!
well then the congress and obama have something in common....they both suck
............Unless, the 113th wants to challenge them for the title!
Hi ya Feisty!
I'd have to believe that if the GOP held control of the House the 113th would do everything in their power to challenge the title.
But I don't believe that will be a problem. The country has grown tired with their frustrations over the GNOP and their days of the majority in the House are numbered. They will be losing seats faster than they ever imagined come the next elections.
Have a terrific Tuesday everyone, I'm taking my leave for the day.
Amy yes,
THE DOW DOES NOT REPRESENT THE PLIGHT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
A million jobs are cut via the Sequester --
Because GOP/Koch would only agree to CUTS without revenues.
Yesterday an article in WaPo detailed Republican PLANS. Back in January they decided to let the "sequester" go through. Next on the agenda - balance the budget in 10 years on the backs of the elderly, the poor and the middle classes. Can't wait for that PLAN to get out to the public. Ought to be a hit with the 1%. Maybe even the top 5% if they're lucky.
We the People must shelve them in 2014.
meanwhile...
China pledged more government spending to boost economic growth!

The 113th might take the title. The conservatives in the House is "pissed" since Obama got re-elected. They were screaming before Nov, he's going to be a 1 term president. We all know how that turned out.
.
Well gee Backhouse, we are on tap to receive record tax revenues this year. $2.7T to be exact. Not since 2007 (you remember the Bush tax cuts era) have we been even close to that. I think the cuts are long past due. They always get promised in the heat of "compromise" (I just threw up a little in my mouth) but very very rarely materialize.
As for the Stock Market, it isn't a true economic indicator anymore. Based solely on profits of big business and the desire to reap those profits by the people in the stock market. I posted earlier on another thread my theory on that subject but here:
To which the response came:
So I tried to help it sink in:
And of course, got no response after that.
well feisty..you dont get a round mouth, from eating square meals..keep on worshiping your loser
there is nothing i find to like about about boehner or any of the repubs as you call them i call them (domestic terrorists) becuase anyone that we are paying to keep food in their childrens mouths and they are taking food out of the mouthes of out children who could vote for these people
John Boehner is a wasted Speaker of the House. He's all talk - all lies - all the time. What the hell kind of leader is that at a time when we need leaders to LEAD. He's so damn afraid of not getting re-elected that he's willing to exploit us all.
He isn't answerable to the tea party alone. As Speaker, he's answerable to the American people.
What a pathetic man he is.
If you don't mind, I'll pass on your unsolicited advice.
Says someone who can't even spell TEXAS properly! lol
It is Obama's policies that have spurred Wall Street to its highest levels. It is Obama's policies that continue to allow the rich get richer. It is Obama's policies that all banks to make high profits. The problem is that what he is saying to the American public is coming out of his ass. He wants to inflict maximum pain to Americans to further his anti-colonialist philosophy. That is not the role of a president.
Revenues have reached an all-time high in a bad economy, high unemployment and under the Bush tax cuts -- but the tax cuts were bad and now you want more revenues. For what??? To spend more because this administration is set to spend over a trillion more than it took in. This is f&%ked up and it is Obama's mess
A million jobs?? Really?? More fear mongering?? The left never stops... So I see that Napolitano was spreading fear that there would be long over the weekend at TSA checkpoints...turns out the airports she mentioned had no long delays and no cuts. More lies...more fear... Typical...
The world is coming to an end...RUN, FLEE, OCCUPY!
What the hell does this even mean? Oh right, another way to call Obama a Kenyan without saying Kenyan.
Perhaps you would care to explain this -
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/03/04/173437507/napolitano-airport-lines-have-seen-150-to-200-percent-increase-since-sequester
feisty -- I was going to let it go, chalk it up to misspent youth or something but when you called out a spelling error i felt compelled to call your grammatical one in your post up top:
"I don't expect Boehner passing anything other then repealing ObamaCare for the 35th time!"
the correct word would be than, and correct sentence structure would probably yield something more like this:
I don't expect Boehner to pass anything other than trying to repeal ObamaCare for the 35th time.
but with the continued reporting of how big of a lie we were all told about obamacare I hope this is the time that everyone wakes up and realizes the magnitude of pain this bill will have on everyone in America -- citizen, legal resident or illegal immigrant:
The CBO expects 7 million workers will lose their employer coverage due to ObamaCare -- did any of you believe him when he said:"if you like your health insurance plan you can keep it"
Obamacare is still projected to have a gross cost of over $1.6 trillion from 2013 to 2022—which only includes nine years of full implementation because the major provisions, exchange subsidies, and Medicaid expansion don’t begin until 2014 -- somewhere around double what he promised.
The bottom line is Obama care is here to stay, and no way, no how can it be repealed. So, lets get over it. I myself am glad to see it.
red -- each of the three airports sis mentioned were contacted and reported everything was normal.
she is using the administrations guidelines to panic Americans better than her colleagues. she also managed to spend $50M on uniforms just before the cuts hit. if we take that money and divide it by a fully burdened cost of a tsa employee -- say $40/hour -- then we could keep tsa people working for an additional million plus hours before any action was needed. we could also look at why two tsa people are assigned to sit on a chair at terminal exits. why not just one? that would save lots of money right there. this is really pretty easy if you want to do what is right and not cause as much pain as possible.
Thank you billybob! In reading the link, it only shows that there was a minimal amount of increased wait time. Now anyone who has gone through a TSA checkpoint knows, that wait times for lines can vary significantly. Reducing OT should always be a goal for a governmental agency. Now that they are under the microscope, now finally we get some accountability. As usual, Obama's team is spreading the fear...a million jobs lost is just pure BS.
The Party of No, American Taliban is going to make things further partisan?
Is that even possible?
"Boehner hinted Tuesday that immigration reform will require broad support from both sides of the aisle in order to make it through the legislative meat-grinder."
"We need to continue to work in bipartisan fashion like we have been to make it happen,” he told reporters.'
Saying anything about a bipartisan vote in the house is funny....Do not remember seeing any bills that were anything but one way..the republican way or nothing..which it turns out ..has done nothing for this nation...All of the house and the senate were elected to work together for this nation as a whole..not the few who "donate" millions to politicans. It seems that working together is not something any of the elected wish to do if it might effect their own party...which means the majority of this nation is left out.
So, Mr. Boehner seeks to quell a revolt within the GOP, huh?
Well, at least he finally realized that the current GOP presence in the House is revolting, to say the least.
Boehner is speaker of the house in other words he's two heart beats away from the presidency; that fact alone should terrify people. This guy has forgotten that as speaker he should follow the will of the MAJORITY of the house of representatives, in other words the will of the majority of the American people. But NOOOOOO...... He puts party before country and partisanship before the will of the American people.
The tea party has him shaking in his boots so he does whatever it takes to please this MINORITY of extremists. The man is a coward a liar and a drunk who worries more about his job than the well being of our country. We should all pray that this POS never comes close to sitting in the oval office.
Geez....
Dems still have their delusions of grandeur, thinking they'll take back the House in 2014...
That's exactly why Obama refuses to be a leader for all of us. All he cares about, is a political win.
And Amercians (at least, those that don't have their nose stuck up his azz) are sick of it...
All his doom and gloom, and "the sky is falling" over a couple of percentage points off what is still an INCREASE in the amount of spending....
Doing his best to MAXIMIZE the effects of the "Sequester" cuts- just so he can say "See? I told you those Republicans are evil!"
THIS is why his approval rating has suddenly DROPPED like a rock over the past two weeks- to 46%
THIS is why his DISAPPROVAL rating has skyrocketed- also to 46%....
Independents and moderates are seeing this man for what he is- and ALL he is- a POLITICIAN. The furthest thing from a true Leader the Office has ever seen.
And the libtards here actually think the Republicans will lose seats in the House in the midterms?
Don't you clowns remember making the same prediction in 2010? And then getting SHELLACKED?
Yawn....
Obama has overhyped- and thus OVERPLAYED his hand- finally. And now, his credibility is SHOT.
Against all odds, even the MSM is actually beginning to question his majesty...
You're going to be a lame duck, much sooner than you expected, Mr. President.
The only thing that the prompted grumbling conservative Republican members of the House marginalize is the power of the Republican party. If this continues, the Conservatives will realized that they will no longer be able to fillabust the majority.
I believe the House will tip toward the Democrats as fast as the Republicans are willing to marginalize the middle class through their Neo Ultra Conservative policies.
Boehner is right!
After 2014, he won't have to be doing anything, ever!
Once again Republicans show that they don't really care about the American people by following another "rule" created by American Taliban Hastert. Between the Norquist and Hastert pledges, I wonder where the pledge to do whats best for the people that elected them falls? I guess it's hard to say without asking the people that buy them each election.
Since when does a bill have to have a party majority to pass the House? That is ridiculous. And this from the same man that said...
"bipartisan" as long as the majority of the GOP caucus go along...
Is this party for real? @!$%# the American people if an old "rule" is broken, regardless of what is good for America? The GOP is trying it's best to bury itself...
Boehner will continue to pass bills with reasonable republicans and democrats coming together, or republicans will lose more seats in the house, the nation is fed up with the performance and agenda of the group of far right republicans that continue to throw a wrench in the works of government.
"He wants to inflict maximum pain to Americans to further his anti-colonialist philosophy. That is not the role of a president." - Ben
Ha now we are back to the nonsensical rantings of Newt, with the anti-colonialists silliness, how about an explanation of just what that means, other than the socialist tack is useless when capitalism is doing so very well under this president. First republicans claim that the president is out to destroy business, he hates capitalism, he will be very bad for business, now business is doing better than ever and they want to claim that is bad because it happened under Obama, I think republicans just want to complain, about the president no matter what, it does not have to make any sense they just like to cry and complain. Well I hope they give up on the socialists silliness, now that the free market a benchmark of capitalism is at an all time high, Ha or will you now just try and tell us that Obama is still a socialist but failed at that too. Not every American will benefit from the market boom, many have no investments, but it is tough to make a sensible argument that the strong market is a bad thing, and it bolsters the argument that many are making plenty of money and certainly do not need half the tax rate of workers to spur investment
Let's see, 3 bills in 3 months. Well THAT is something to be proud of. Not bad for a group that only works 3-4 days a week.
Yeah, that's something to be proud of. Maybe someday they'll start working for the American people, the folks who hired them. 2014 will begin the termination process for many of them. Good bye.
It doesn't matter to Boehner that Republicans only control the House. It doesn't matter to Boehner that the majority of Americans do not agree with his policies. He and the Republican House will act like they have the God given right to to control America.
The difference between the legendary Tip O'Neil and the current GOP speaker. Tip passed bills. Boehner passes GOP bills.
"Majority of the majority." Introduced by Denny "I protect paedophiles" Hestert. Doesn't matter if there are the votes to pass a bill. If the GOP can't pass it by their votes alone, it won't come to a vote. The GOP has lost the concept of "Speaker" and replaced it with "Second majority leader."
Republicans and Bohner = Party before country. Traitors.
Yeah, it's time to get those renegade GOP members who are voting for what their constituents want to go back to ignoring the voters and going along with the GOP political agenda to obstruct, delay, and impose gridlock on everything until they win back the White House.
Only, the voters don't want obstructionism or gridlock. They want representatives that well, represent them and not putting them on the back burner to follow some political playbook to cause the President and the economy to fail instead of succeed. The tactics of being the "Party of No" will end up costing them seats in Congress and hurt their chances of a White House win in 2016. You'd think the few bright bulbs in the party could convince the rest that people are tired of gridlock and the overwhelming majority are putting the blame for it on the GOP.
The current GOP is so fractured into mainstream, moderates, fiscal conservatives, far right, Tea Party, and whatever that they couldn't even get a consistent message out in the week leading up to the Sequester. There was no official stance at the party level and obviously not much progress or communication amongst themselves.
I think that in the next couple years we'll either see the GOP decide to pull together, which will involve purging or silencing the minority factions that don't agree with the new direction, or they will split and spawn off a new party of the far right who don't feel like they can be any part of a party that realizes it needs to move left towards center and open to more progressive social issues to stop losing the voting majority who is becoming more progressive and centrist.
The people voted by a wide majority to elect the republicans in the house. Have any of you figured out why they control the house? 70% of America wants to cut the wild out of control spending and the majority remembers what the house dems did from 2006-2010.
Well, Boehner didn't expect the Obama - Biden administration to continue after the last election and how is that working out for him so far? My perception is that Obama has and will continue to take Boehner to the mat and repeatedly force him to tap out whenever he needs to.
- Obama doesn't need to run again and can do things on his and the country's timetable; Boehner's clock is ticking.
- Boehner is in a difficult position; he doesn't have a cohesive coalition to begin with and walks a tightrope daily just to keep his speakership
- Everyone has heard the same GOP (mostly TP these days) talking points for years and an increasing majority just tune them out. There is nothing new under the sun and a lot of their positions have been widely discredited by non-partisan experts or leaders.
- Boehner is unable to surprise the President; he's seen all their moves and it's just a question of which ones they're going to repeat. Obama has determined how to position himself so the GOP trip themselves up without him expending a lot of energy or political capital. The country has an increasingly negative opinion of the GOP congressional members and eventually that will be the GOP themselves. That's too bad because there's a lot to like in the basic principals of the Republican party, but right now, watching them "fight" with Obama is as unpredictable as Bambi vs Godzilla.
Obama is a communist. His college transcripts tell us that much.
More gas from the boner. At least he's anatomically correct.
Imagine trying to outlaw slavery with this crowd. Imagine trying to stop Joe McCarthy. Imagine getting these House Republicans to declare war on the Nazis. You couldn't get a majority of Republicans to support what is right, these days, you have to settle for peeling off support from the few moderates left.
Actually, I can. It would involve taxing former slaves at 25%, and giving a tax break to former slave owners, at a rate of around 5%. That is the GOP way.
Amy---they might go for war against the Nazis if you guaranteed they'd make obscene profits from it and none of their children would have to serve.
amy -- your claims are wildly bizarre! none of what you describe is plausible. it may be that "what is right" may be something with which you or someone else may disagree.
was it right for truman to order the dropping of the bombs on japan to end world war II -- many of us think so and many believe he simply ordered the annihilation of thousands of innocents. where do you come down? was truman right or is he the largest mass-murderer in American history?
billybob: Truman was correct, he saved thousands of US military by forcing Japan to surrender. Remember Japan attacked Hawaii with a sneak attack and killed thousands of our military. If they had so little regard for their own population that they started a war I have little sympathy for the people that allowed them to take those actions.
billybob-6210632
Your twisted logic is exactly that twisted. you and you pal Damyou are on the wrong side of history. Your defence of the Republican/Tea Party doesn't have a leg to stand on. These right wing Republicans have caused vast damage to our country and continue to cause more damage EVERY DAY. Why you would defend these un-American extremists baffles me..... unless of course your a paid troll. You may be an American but you should take a long look in the mirror because you sure don't sound like one.
I missed the part where the decision to drop the bomb was passed through the house. I'm sure we can all think of a few examples of people reaching across the isle to make terrible decisions though.
WHEN will Congress realize that they exist "For the People" rather than for their personal billfolds and that of the minority 1%? They didn't listen back in the olden days of the "Robber Barons", and they certainly don't now in the days of the new "Robber Barons" and the new "Corporation People" (per the Supreme Court).
PS: Read the New Testament: It is better to be Liberal (Show Caring) than to be Conservative and penny-pinch those less fortunate.
GOP Comeback 2014: ?
SCGuardian:
When they outlaw lobbying, offshore accounts, taking a corporate executive position with a company that would benefit from favorable legislation within 5 years of retirement from government service, when outing a CIA operative becomes high treason (isn't it already?), and last, but not least: when they quit printing money.
At a press conference Tuesday, Boehner said that violating the "Hastert Rule" -- the unwritten rule that Republican leaders only bring legislation to the floor if the majority of the GOP caucus supports it -- is "not a practice I expect to continue in the long term."
Yes........Heaven forbid that the GOP do their job as individuals for the good of the people when they can use "gang mentality" to overrule common sense.
Sane-2794278: Update: In the 1950's and 1960's, those jumped from being Democratic to being Republican. Read and Study History!!!
PS: When they (Segregationists) bolted, so did the remaining KK Klaners, the Neo-Facists, the Neo-Nazis, and certain blighted Evangelist figures. Some changed attitudes, most didn't.
Amy B. Portland, ME: History wins.
Amy, you do know that the Democrat party was the party of slavery and segregation don't you? Just a little historical fact. Now the party prefers to enslave people with dependency by welfare and promises of free basically everything. Republicans ended slavery. But you are lining up for the new kind. Man, you are really ill informed.
In name only. We all know today's Southern Republicans were yesterday's Democrats. When he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Democratic President Lyndon B.Johnson observed "we've lost the South."
amy..if thats true, then why does the democratic ACLU,support the KKK for thier desire to adopt a highway????
just askin
Of course they were, we know that. However, today's GOP has taking their place. It's like they switched roles when the Southern Democrats (Dixie Crats) became the Republicans. And lets not forget the Civil Rights Act and LBJ.
Amy, how despicable can you get?
With an image of Maine Republican hero Joshua Chamberlain right beside you lying venomous crap...Chamberlain may well rise from his grave, after hearing of your slander of The Party of Freedom.
The truth is, the South has risen economically, politically and morally since Republicans took over from racist Democrats.
Do you believe this nasty bile you write or are you just spewing the daily talking points you are provided?
GOPcomeback,
"The truth is, the South has risen economically, politically and morally since Republicans took over.."
Do you have a link or a source for your outlandish statement?
Lets take the number of uninsured in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana,?
What is the unemployment rate in Florida, Kentucky, Alabama?
I will wait for your answer.
Morally??????????????? - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, so says Vitter and governor what's his name with a mistress in So. America. Puleeeeze - southerners as a shining beacon of morality. Gay bathhouses in Singapore demonstrate more morality - at least they insist upon the use of condoms and government sponsored medical care for all.
There you are you little scamp! lol
What's up with opening another new account here VP Bob?
Too ashamed to show who you really are after all of erroneous political predictions you have made in the past? lol
Speaks volumes about your lack of integrity, typical tea bagger, sneaking around and gaming the system!
And he has the nerve Feisty to claim the moral high ground.......read your history VP Bob.
Good post RedDev...you beat me to it.......did you here that devilishly romantic Romeo in So. Carolina asked his exwife to be his campaign manager for his latest attempt to suck on the public teat, the pot sweetener to her? this time he'd pay her...................nice!
If Teddy Roosevelt were alive today, do you think he'd belong to the Party of climate-change-deniers? Do you think Teddy, the anti- corporate monopoly conservationist would celebrate the 1% having control over his Party and pushing for laws that protect their tax loopholes?
I don't even think Gerald Ford would belong in today's Republican Party, much less Lincoln.
feisty -- looks like you have an obsession for the comeback guy. what possible difference does it make what he calls himself, after all the dictionary defines your moniker as: -- 1. Touchy; quarrelsome. Then again, pretty accurate.
have a nice day
Hi Amy,
Today's Republicans trash the memory Teddy Roosevelt. TR was a Progressive who do a lot great things for the Nation.
LOFL. So, according to you, all the racists in the south are still democrats, voting for Barrack Obama?
They didn't "take over" from the Democrats, they aborbed them.
Even Texas' racist, redneck, hillbilly, secessionist governor Rick "Ni66erhead" Perry used to be a Democrat.
Yesterday's southern Democrats are today's tea party. You would remember this if you hadn't been so absorbed with a big purple dinosaur at the time.
Hey VP Bob, What is The Party of Freedom?
"Democratic ACLU?" I have to laugh. You obviously aren't familiar with the ACLU; they have also defended the rights of the American Nazi Party. The ACLU is mostly about defending the 1st Amendment, regardless of whose free speech rights are being abridged.
"you do know that the Democrat party was the party of slavery and segregation"
Key word ----- WAS ---- and that applied to conservative, southern Democrats. This is not 1865 nor is it 1963. This is 2013 and today those southern states are solid Republican. Today it's Republicans who are trying to overturn the voting rights act. Today it's Republicans making it harder for minorities to vote. Today it's Republicans talking about succession from the union. Today it's Republicans talking about nullification.
Ahahahahahaha! A little history:
Economically? Just look at the Bush record! (he comes from Texas)
Politcallly? Who won the last election? (who did the South vote for?)
Morally? Mark Foley, Mark Sanford... the list just goes on and on...
BZZZZT! You lose! Play again!
Lets not forget the Mississippi Mayor that was dragged, beaten, and burned before being dumped in a river. I mean just imagine the heads exploding when they found out a black gay man was running. Of course the south has risen morally, risen to be completely morally bankrupt.
back house
the dow dont matter..last time it set a record there were only about1 million un-employed..now we are around 7 to 10 millon non workers...
texsas, I was born in that @!$%#hole of a state and it's spelled texas. or in my vernacular, tex ass. give the @!$%#hole back to mexico.
Really?
The last record was in Oct, 2007 - 14,164.53
According to BLS, unemployment at that time was 4.7%.
Again, according to BLS, there were 153,516,000 workers, meaning 7,215,252 were out of work.
But that's OK, just spout whatever BS you want!
The GOP/Teabeggers in their "House Of Hoodlum's" created the Sequester. GOP/Teabeggers are in their "Attack and then Distract Strategy." The GOP/Teabeggers have used hundreds of fillibusters, and the Teabeggers have set up 5 "Budget Battles" since 2010. "Bonehead Boehner" is all for not compromising on any budget issue, and is a pathological liar. The Senate passed a very good Buget Plan before the Sequester deadline, and "Bonehead Boehner" never even considered it. The "Party Of NO" has got to go in 2014 America. Time to get the vote out! The GOP/Teabeggers are huge obstructionists, and they want to still destroy this President. Again! "Mickey Mouse Mitch McConnell" will deal with VP Biden however, not with the President. Really? All that the GOP/Teabeggers are still doing in 2013 goes back to their GOP/Teabegger "Caucus Conspiracy" of January 20, 2009. Connecting the political/economic dots yet America? The GOP/Teabeggers took their 'blood oath' to create full out destruction of the US Economy. The President has brought Job Legislation to the GOP/Teabegger "House Of Hoodlum's." Where did "Bonehead Boehner" bury the President's Job Legislation? Now the GOP/Teabeggers do not want to admit that their ever was a GOP/Teabegger "Caucus Conspiracy" because even they know that it is treasonous. America should ask "Crazy Cantor," and little "Richie Rich Ryan" were on January 20, 2009. Now their lack of an answer should not be a shock. The GOP/Teabeggers do not understand basic economics. When the economy is in a down turn. The Government needs to spend money into the economy by creating jobs. Like rebuilding our nations infastructure would be a good start. The GOP/Teabeggers want to cut spending. They have made this clear! How does Government Spending cuts create jobs in an already weak economy?? The answer is simple! It does not create jobs at all. Now in times of an economic up turn. Government can afford to cut spending. This is where things stand today America.
It would seem that the only way to actually pass bills in the House is to do it without a majority of Republicans. Cryin' John may figure that out and the practice won't be so unusual after all.
The majority cannot rule if the majority can not vote. In two yrs. maybe the country will be smart enough even with the redistricting to vote out the minority now controlling the House. Remember this GOP majority does not represent the state majority where they came from. How crazy is that.
isit -- can you please explain your comment: Remember this GOP majority does not represent the state majority where they came from.
i have no idea what point you are making. can you provide an example? see below.
in texas we have 36 districts with republicans representing 25 and democrats 11. we also have two senators (like all states) both republicans.
Boehner is inaffective, too dark for his skin (lay off the bronzer), he's probably sleeping with his fellow repubs...(Yuk), he's the worst speaker EVER!, I can smell his attitude all the way back here in the west, etc........Give Me A Break! PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!! These people are playing you for FOOLS! They go sit by their pools with a Martini brought to them by their Cabana Boys as we stand in line for unemployment (that's if they vote on that issue) But, ALWAYS A RAISE FOR THEMSELVES!!!!!!! No Matter What!
Boehner bone-ing America to protect the trickle up economy and with tinkle down on you results.
Once again our democracy at work. A minority elected by election district redistricting can deprive the majority of it's vote and voice. So much for the Constitution when the majority is blocked from ruling by a minority.
Yes America! "Bonehead Boehner" likes to pass alot of things however, job creation legislation is not one of them. As an 'ass' he likes to pass "Political Gas." Old "Bonehead Boehner" likes to "Super Spew" in the Teabegger Barf Bucket, and then try to pass it on to a very surprised President. "Bonehead Boehner" likes to pass "Political Puke" and call it fair legislation for all. Now that is funny! Now old "Bonehead Boehner" likes to pass the Whiskey Bottle to his fellow "Teabegger Buddies." The Teabeggers like to 'pass on' lies, and then deny that they ever lied at all. The GOP/Teabegger Sequester would be a great example of this! Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! The Party Of NO has got to go!
They will double their effort from the pass two years and help the economy by passing sixty abortion bills. Is this the vaginal up economy solution?
With only a small contingent of House Republicans working with the Democrats to get things done, the rest are useless. It only show that the Tea Party and the rest of the far-right conservatives are a dying breed, the last gasp of a old white men of the hill. Bring on the 2014 elections so we can get rid of the dead weight and get back to business.
And the local Tea Party-dominated GOP caucuses are working hard to ensure that the "small contingent of House Republicans" don't get re-elected.
Main street hates the sequester, but Wall street seems to love the sequester. Backhouse mentioned earlier that the stock market had not traded so high since Oct 2007. Wasn't that about the time that the current recession (depression) that we are still climbing out of started? Even though the administration at the time said that the economy was just fine. All of us with any sense knew that was a lie. Boehner is the biggest jerk in politics I can remember for quite some time, with the exception of Cheney. Let's make sure we put more Dems in office in 2014 or some reasonable republicans would be nice, but I'm not sure they exist anymore.
This is because the loophole they wanted to change involved the lazy mans wage, AKA capital gains. Sit on your bum and your money does all the "work" This is why Ritt MORMONey can pay a lower effective tax rate than his secretary. Wall Street gears their salaries to capital gains, patriotic Americans that they are and then complains of the debt. This is why the Bush tax cuts, rammed through Congress with Darth Cheney casting the tie breaking vote, was a concerted effort by Republicans to end up where we are now, 16T in debt. I don't want to hear another word from the cons regarding the debt, Bush handed Obama the largest structural deficit in history which he has lowered not raised as the cons would have you conflate debt and deficit. This is only a trick to paint the debt as Obamas, when in fact he has added less to the debt than Bush. There was no effort from the tea baggers to reduce the deficit under Bush, total hypocrisy. Of course the tea bags are put out there as a "grass roots" organization when in fact they are totally funded by Koch and other billionaires.
Boy, the GOP sure has a lot of rules restricting them on when and how they can do what's best for the country! No wonder they can't get anything done!
Unfortunately republicans no long ever think about doing what is best for the country. They think about what is best for a lot of wealthy right wingers and big wig corporations first and foremost.
Bohner got his spending cuts,,next up revenues
Unlikely. His Tea Party handlers have already said that there will be no new revenue sources under any circumstances whatsoever.
The Hastert Rule is intended to ensure that.
Bulletman357 - "Bohner got his spending cuts,,next up revenues"
More revenues? You mean more tax increases? How much are the people who earn the money supposed to contribute toward paying for the people who don't?
We have a spending problem. These cuts are just the beginning.
Can't they just vote as individuals based on what they think is and isn't a good idea, without getting permission from the Speaker beforehand?
No, the speaker of the house is the house ruler, he decides what goes up for debate and for vote. The biggest problem is getting him to bring up anything at all except abortion bills. If I only worked as much as the 112th and 113th congress, I'd have been fired many times over.
Don't forget that Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
In a split government, Harry Reid in the Senate does not allow Republican bills forward for a vote, and John Boehner in the House does not allow Democrat bills forward.
Reid seems to be doing a better job of killing legislation his party does not like, with the support of the media who continually fail to point out the Senate role in the stalemate. Boehner let several bills through without his own party's support.
Harry Reid would allow good bills to come up for a vote in the Senate in a heartbeat. He is not going to bother with anti-regulation or anti-health care legislation. Democrats would all support job creation that republicans claimed to be for to get elected in 2010. But that was just a ploy. They have been against job creation and for nothing that would be good for the country.
As far as believing in a limited government, I'm all for it as long as it is simply adequate and honestly equitable. As an ex-long-term Republican I still believe in "conservative" philosophies - like: "the least amount of government is the best government" and "government should only do for the people that which they can't do for themselves" ... but I consider myself rational enough to understand that there are real responsibilities inherent in those principals ... government has to be at least as much as is needed and government has to do for the people that which they can't do for themselves. What needs to be understood is that ideology can simply be used as a smokescreen, as propaganda while being perverted to accommodate favoritism.
Being objective, I recognize that the current Republican Party has come to be totally owned and controlled by "the money", like by the Koch brothers, Norquist, the SuperPacs, Adelson and on and on, with those serious responsibilities not only being neglected but also rationalized away in order to concentrate solely on serving "the money", on literally feeding the insatiable "more" (never enough) appetite of the few and on using the power, influence and mega-bucks provided to con the people and manipulate public opinion. It all is really there to be seen by any willing to see it, willing to check biases, emotions and loyalties when wanting to know the truth. The ironic thing is that by closing their minds to reality even those who rationalize away the facts are loosing, as what is being aggressively pushed by "the money" and their "puppet" politicians is a two-class society, with the few competing in having it all, while constantly costing the majority more and more - the proof is in the results we experience. That was never the intent of our founders.
What gets the GOP/Teabeggers economically excited? What gets "Bonehead Boehner" drinking like a "Mad Man?" What gets "Crazy Cantor" dancing like a "Crazy Conservative Circus Clown?" The answer is America! "The Teabegger Sequester!" The GOP/Teabeggers are job destroyers on a grand scale, and letting Corporations getting away with "Economic Evil" is just great! More huge tax loopholes for big corporations, and even bigger tax loopholes hor corporations that send jobs overseas. The Senate Democrats passed a budget bill that would have closed these huge loopholes however, old "Bonehead Boehner." Buried it! He would not ever bring it to the House Floor for a vote! The "Food Stamp" President does not deserve more Food Stamps. The Community Organizer does not deserve the opportunity to create jobs. This President is not a 'true' American, and he is lazy. So the GOP/Teabeggers believe that this President should be lied to at all times. Hey America! Are you seeing how Mentally Ill the Teabeggers are now?? The President wants to protect those that are unable to defend themselves economically. No way will this fly! The President is a 'taker' and his policies are that of a 'faker.' Hey America! Are you understanding why a "Teabegger Mental Hospital" needs to be built? Maybe that can be part of the President's Infastructure Jobs Bill that was 'bullied and buried' by the Teabeggers? Oh! That's right. The Teabeggers all ready did this!
Google "Solid South" and "Nixon's southern strategy". You're obviously a bunch of children who don't know their history.
"The truth is, the South has risen economically, politically and morally since Republicans took over from racist Democrats."
The racist southern Democrats have been replaced by the racist southern Republicans. And it is true that parts of the South has gotten better over the last 50 years. But you get into the rural areas of Mississippi and Alabama and it's like being in a third world nation. The south may have risen but they still have a very long way top go.
George Wallace got so mad at the Democrats over cvil rights legislation, he started his own party.
In 2000, there was a 236 Billion dollar surplus.
That was before we funded two unnecessary wars with a tax cut.
I would argue that a military response in Afghanistan was appropriate. We were attacked by Islamic terrorist who were given save haven by Taliban government of Afghanistan, who then refused to surrender Bin Ladin.
We were justified in attacking Afghanistan, but Bush dropped the ball and concentrated on his Iraq boondoggle.
I don't really see why we're obligated to "rebuld" Afghanistan better than it was before we got there.
So how many GOP House of Representitives that signed the "Norquist Pledge" are going to vote for needed "Revenue"? Just ANOTHER "get your head out of your a$$" statement by "wet brain Orange".
how much taxes do we as a country need to collect?? the reports today are projecting tax collections of $2.7T for the current fiscal year.
in spite of this record setting tax collection our spending is expected to exceed this amount by about another $1T.
think about this: "The combined net worth of the Forbes 2012 class of the 400 richest Americans is $1.7 trillion". so all of the billionaires obama wants to tax incessantly could cover the current deficits for about 2 years if all of their assets were confiscated. then what do we do?
America's majority doesn't believe or have any faith in the GOP in doing what's right for 99% of Americans...2010 running platform jobs jobs jobs where where where ?
The whole idea that one person can say whether the other 434 elected representatives can vote on something or not is what can only be described as a dictator. Why do the American people allow this most anti democracy action?

Anybody watching the Netflix series "House of Cards?" Every time I see an episode, I think that the Kevin Spacey character is probably a lot like Bohner. This show is riviting!
I have, and it does. Great find, eh Susq!!
5 Republicans and 3 Democrats from1971 to 2013
And it ends up President Obama’s fault!!
Paul Craig Roberts served in Reagan Treasury Dept, and also worked as editor at the Wall Street Journal. He knows about what he speaks. He described the horrendous economic situation for the US Economy. He puts blame on Wall Street and US Corporate executives who use Asian labor in outsourcing, rendering the US nation of workers poor.
I just can’t get over the Greed of the Rich!! They are not investing in America!! They’re going to wait till Tea-Publicans drive America into the ditch again, and pick up the pieces!!!
America’s problems started August 1971!!
These are things Republicans don't want you to remember!!
With inflation unresolved by August 1971, and an election year looming, Nixon convened a summit of his economic advisers at Camp David. Nixon then announced temporary wage and price controls, allowed the dollar to float against other currencies, and ended the convertibility of the dollar into gold. This meant our money was now worthless!!! Inflationary dollars!!
The first signs of impending trouble are the exploding budget deficits themselves. They began, of course, under the parlous economic stewardship of Ronald Reagan. Reagan cut the marginal tax rate on the wealthiest of Americans from 70% to 38%. He promised it would spur an orgy of investment and rocket the economy to new levels of production and prosperity. Instead, his supply side economics did the exact opposite. It produced the deepest recession since the Great Depression.
During Reagan's administration, the unemployment rate declined from 7.5% to 5.4%, with the rate reaching highs of 10.8% in 1982 and 10.4% in 1983. Reagan also earned the nickname "the Teflon President", in that public perceptions of him were not tarnished by the controversies that arose during his administration.
Output fell 2.2% in 1982 while budget deficits soared. When Reagan took office in 1981, the national debt stood at $995 billion. Twelve years later, by the end of George H.W. Bush’s presidency, it had exploded to $4 trillion. Reagan was a B grade movie actor and a doddering, probably clinically senile president, but he was a sheer genius at rewarding his friends by saddling other people with debts.
Bill Clinton reversed Reagan’s course, raising taxes on the wealthy, and lowering them for the working and middle classes. This produced the longest sustained economic expansion in American history. Importantly, it also produced budgetary surpluses allowing the government to begin paying down the crippling debt begun under Reagan. In 2000, Clinton’s last year, the surplus amounted to $236 billion. The forecast ten year surpluses stood at $5.6 trillion. It was the last black ink America would see for decades, perhaps forever.
