Discuss this post

Where has Gene Sperling been all my life? I watched him on two political shows this Sunday and he did an awesome job of explaining the administration's position on the sequester. I hope the talk shows book him at least as often as they book John McCain and Lindsay Graham. Finally, a guest with something to say of substance (how he managed not to punch Gregory at the end of his interview, however, I will never understand.) Why does Gregory always have to goad his Democratic guests with just one more swipe?

I don't understand the Democratic opposition to the Keystone Pipeline.

The bottom line is that if we build the pipeline to our refineries, we have access to a huge amount of oil from a friendly source in the event of an emergency Ie; ENERGY SECURITY.

The opposition seems to be centered around trying to stop the tar sands oil from being developed, which is a flawed strategy - The oil WILL be extracted. The only question is whether it goes to OUR refineries or those for China. If it goes to OUR refineries, we gain political 'leverage' over China.

Cause we really don't need to breath oxygen or live in an unpolluted environment, now do we?

Very simple. The reason the dems oppose the pipeline is the same reason the rep Gov called in the feds in the first place - it's a potential environmental disaster that could contaminate the water tables for the entire midwest.

Do you not understand those types of arguments? Does the environment mean nothing to you? I'll bet you don't live in the midwest and if a disaster happens it won't affect you - so what do you care?

Roy the problem with your half truth is, they are going to our refineries and then to China. We are already exporting more gasoline then ever before. It is the oil companies that are the problem. The tar sand oil is the dirtiest in the world. It will pollute more then any other and perhaps should be either left in the ground or refined at the well head. Transporting it by pipeline may not be safe enough. Having witnessed the spill near Marshall Michigan myself I can tell you, once in the river it is too late.

blearyeyed: My blog hero of the day. I grew up in that mess. I mention some of the things that where common place to my younger friends and they can not believe it. The greatest threat to the environment maybe a generation that has no grasp of that past.

Why do we need more oil going to refineries that don't want to refine it Roy? The oil companies have shut down numerous refineries, in an effort to drive up gas prices.

Roy, the only one I have seen opposing the pipeline is a Republican governor of Nebraska who had some concerns about the pipeline crossing an environmentall sensitive area of his state. I believe that is settled and it is a matter of moving on with it. By the way would you support such a pipeline if it moved water instead of oil?
