In his first interview since losing the 2012 presidential election, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney criticized President Obama’s early second-term performance and told Fox News Sunday that he’s still very much stung by his defeat.
“I look at what’s happening right now -- I wish I were there,” Romney told Chris Wallace, in a taping conducted last week in California. “It kills me not to be there, not to be in the White House doing what needs to be done.”

Romney criticized President Obama’s handling of the budget showdown engulfing Washington, saying, “We don’t have to have gridlock settings one after the other, on issue after issue.”
Romney, who campaigned largely on a promise that he would cut the debt and federal spending, said that the current debate over the nation’s fiscal course, including the so-called “sequester” cuts, represents a missed opportunity. “I see this as this huge opportunity, and it’s being squandered by politics, by people who are more interested in a political victory than they are in doing what’s right for the country. And it’s very frustrating.”
Former Gov. Mitt Romney calls the controversial statement "unfortunate" and admitted that it was "harmful" to his campaign.
His wife, Ann Romney, conceded that she was not fully over the election defeat. "It would have been much better for America, I believe, in my heart if he had been there right now." When asked what she thought about President Obama’s campaign, Mrs. Romney told Wallace “I think it was a winning campaign. It worked.” Wallace asked her if she thought the president’s campaign was fair, and she quickly responded that she did not, and that Obama had distorted public perception about her husband, who she called an “exceptional, wonderful person… that really, truly cared about the American people.”
Romney also allowed he made some mistakes during the course of his campaign. One issue that plagued him at the end of his run was the release of a secretly recorded video showing him speaking at a fundraiser, in which he said that 47% of Americans would vote for the president no matter what, as they were “dependent on the government.” He told Wallace that the statement was “very harmful” and “not what I believe.”
House Speaker John Boehner tells Meet the Press moderator that the House will act on a continuing resolution to keep the government open.
“There’s no question that hurt and did real damage to my campaign,” Romney admitted.
At the same time, however, Romney said that the “attractiveness” of the president’s health care plan was “a feature that we underestimated, particularly among” low-income voters.
The couple were asked what it has been like to be out of the public eye, without the massive staff, security and press entourage that was with Romney's campaign at every move. Ann Romney called the abrupt change an "adjustment, but it’s one that I think we did well."
Romney is making his first public address in two weeks, at C-PAC, a conservative group's annual conference in Washington, D.C. He told Fox that while he was not expecting the Republican party to necessarily hang on of his every word going forward, he does still want to be involved. “I’m not going to disappear,” he said. “I care about America. I care about the people that can’t find jobs.”
The interview was filmed at the home of Romney's youngest son, Craig, in the San Diego area. Craig and his wife, Mary, just welcomed newborn twins, Winston and Eleanor, two weeks ago, bringing the total number of grandchildren to twenty, a reality that was on the former candidate’s mind when discussing current events and his future plans.
“I care about my twenty grandkids – the kind of America they’re going to have. And sitting in the sidelines when so much is at stake is just not in my nature,” Romney told Wallace.

It would be entertaining in a psychotic sort of way to have had the opportunity to watch the members of the Party of Fiscal Responsibility falling all over themselves to be the loudest to approve the 30% tax cut and the doubling of spending on the largest discretionary consumer of your tax dollars, the Pentagon.
We are glad,your not here,,loser
Mitt dear, you spoke, America listened, America decided.
Rick dear: The Chicago-style rotton campaign prevailed (how he beat Hillary), the Obama-loving MSM refused to cover SIGNIFICANT issues, and the fools in denial or too lazy to look into it... voted and AMERICA lost. A temporary "fix" of entitlement won...for now.
annie - RMoney was a LOSER from the beginning - no policy provisions, totally under the thumb of the national party, picked an IDIOT as a running mate (in TRUE McSENILE form, BTW) And PARTICULARLY the 47% GAFF was his single most damning item of undoing. Plus it didn't help when Marie ANNtoinette said effectively "well, then let them eat cake" about tax records. They might have won with HUNTSMAN (but NONE of the other members of the collective hive of BORG drones had any chance - many were in negative territory from the BEGINNING)
Annie, is that as in Romney? Or did you just fall out his binder?
Good one Rick!
Mitt cannot stay away and media is playing the role of enabler. Ann has recently come out saying that the media is to blame fro the failed campiagn along with not being more effective at getting the message out (which is wearing pretty thin...).
Ann darling, it was the MESSAGE not the delivery and it was your husband's mouth that media picked up on.
Mafungu...
ann may just have to STFU or lose her status as a disinterested party... (SHE was a candidate for NOTHING AT ALL)
"Ann has recently come out saying that the media is to blame fro the failed campiagn"
Yep -- it's that DAMN media -- telling people what we don't want them to hear. Funny -- every loser, be they Republican or Democrat, uses that excuse.
I scan FUKED NEWS and DRUGGIE LIMBALLS propaganda all the time and accidentally hit NITWITS and princess B!TCH ANN'S BULLSH!T interview Sunday . Even after 5 months they couldn't come up with a logical reason why Obama won. Well since I was a 47%er from 1963-1967 @99 funking a month in the USA Army and 45 years (and in some of those years) maxing out Social Security and Medicare pay ins, I can tell you why he lost. At 67 years old I be damned if I let the likes of these two C0CKSUCKERS strip my benefits that I paid for since I was 15 years old. So since you pieces of TEAGAGGER SH!TS that don't even qualify paying the full SS and Medicare payments yearly KISS MY @SS> I will live to piss on your grave.
I took a 9th grade education got a GED in the US Army, and learned investments on my own. I took those paychecks and invested in Invester Owned Power Companies that paid dividens and automatically reinvested the dividens.
So no matter what my income is I am a 47%er, and Romney and B!tch Ann is you fuking heroes. GOOD YOU ARE A FUKING LOW CLASSED MORON LEAD AROUND BY THE NOSE OF THE KOCH BROTHERS FUNDED TEAGAGGERS

Did you know that Barack Obama is on a Vegan diet? Maybe that’s why he served Mitt Romney a specially prepared post Thanksgiving feast when the former Republican presidential contender met with the president over lunch Thursday at the White House.
No cameras were allowed of course, but we used our White House frequent reporter points to get a seat at the children’s table.
President Obama (POTUS):
So, Mitt—What are you up to these days?
Mitt Romney (M.R):
Frankly, Mr. President, I’m here because I’ve always wanted to work in the White House. You know, Dad would have liked it. That’s my Dad, by the way, not your Dad in Kenya, you know, where you were born. By the way, can I call you Barry?
POTUS:
Well, I came across your resume when I was going through these binders of possible candidates for a new cabinet position. In fact, there are three jobs open which might interest you. (And don’t call me Barry.)
M.R:
Well, Mr. Obama, tell me more.
POTUS:
One position, Mitt, as you’ve probably heard, is Secretary of State. After all your misfires during the campaign, I’ve heard rumors that the Republicans might filibuster your appointment. But let’s hope for the best. Do you think you could fill Hillary’s shoes?
M.R:
Gee, I don’t know. We have a lot in common. We both had health care plans; we both lived in a governor’s mansion, and we both ran for president and lost to you. I'm sure I qualify, Mr. O.
POTUS:
Ok, do you have any experience in foreign relations?
M.R:
When I was head of the 2002 Winter Olympics I worked with every country in the world. Many of the African countries—not yours, of course—had different names back then.
POTUS:
Keep it up Mitt, and we won’t even get to dessert. Now, back to your diplomatic skills. Didn't you accuse the British of mismanagement during their Olympics when you visited London?
M.R:
They're so touchy. Maybe they're still ticked off about that Churchill thing when you expelled that bust of Winston from the oval office.
POTUS:
Well, maybe State isn’t your cup of tea. By the way, Mitt, can I get you a refill? Your water glass is 47 percent empty …. How about Labor? I’m thinking of promoting Hilda Solis. Could you fill her shoes?
M.R:
I already speak Hispanish. Zapatos, amigo, Zapatos from Zappos.
POTUS:
What would you bring to Labor?
M.R.:
You’re singing my tune, Mr. Prez. There’s so much fat in that department. We could outsource most of the department to Bangalore. Also, we could do a leveraged buyout of HUD, break it up, and sell the assets for a chunk of change. This could help you with your ‘cliff’ problem.
POTUS:
Perfect—You’re not exactly a ruthless vulture capitalist but you're close enough to be our business Czar -- a very important new post I'm eager to fill. You could reinvent Detroit, jumpstart employment, make international deals—the whole enchilada.
M.R.:
Great, what’s my compensation package, including long-term incentives?
POTUS:
Whoa, We’re getting ahead of ourselves, Mitt. First I need to see your last 10 years of tax returns….
M.R.:
If I give those to you, Barry, is there room for advancement?

MY ANSWER TO THE RIGHT WING NUTS JOBS THAT REPLIED TO THIS ARTICLE!
DID THOSE OTHER YO-YO’s EVEN READ THE ARTICLE? Did they read the menu? Ladies and Gentlemen this is HILARIOUS. Good Job. AND BY THE WAY? This is as close as Nitwit and Princess B!TCHann Will ever get to the White House. But in all seriousness, to bring an end to the John Boner, Eric Can'tor, B!TCH McConnell, and last, but not least John (CRASH) McCain, Filibuster of Ann Rice and the physical Cliff debate, President Obama needs to nominate Colin Powell Secretary of Defense, and Jon Huntsman as Secretary of State. That would be qualified bipartisan candidates, and prove to Americans in both parties that President Obama is serious about moving about political and doing what is best for America. This would also destroy FAUX NEWS, and give Sean Hann'ity, Bill O'Really, and Druggie Lush Limpball, a heart attack and nothing for their daily bashing of President Obama, and possibly the suicide of Keith Rupert Murdoch.
ALL YOU OBAMA HATERS NEED TO GET A LIFE. ALL THE FANATICAL TV EVANGELIST COULDN'T STOP THIS MAN SAVING AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS, SO SHUT UP. BY THE WAY I AM A CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT, UNION, VETERAN, REDNECK, CARD CARRYING DEMOCRAT TEXAN. HOW IS THAT FOR A TRUE OXYMORON
?
People, DO NOT click on the above link that Vietnam Veteran wants his @$$ provided in the above post. It has a virus that my antivirus blocked.
funny - Comodo didn't care...
The party's over.
If Mitt did win last Nov., I'm sure he would already have signed a bill in which he, and his 1 % buddies would all be paying 0 % taxes, and we'd for surely would be at war with Iran and N. Korea by now. That's probably the only reason he and Ann are bumbed they didn't get in the WH. Plus I'm sure Mitt is getting tired of Anne whinning out it, because it was "their turn".
Romney's solution.....give amnesty to the billionaires that President Bush advised to hide their profits in the Cayman LLC's one week before the last election, allowing the billionaires to pay no taxes and get even richer, while doing absolutely nothing for our economy!
Next, Romney would fire all of the teachers from the public school system, and make the schools for-profit enterprises, which would make his 60 million dollars he invested into Charter Schools thrive, while, again, our children would have less education, would cost Americans more for an education, and would take us further away from competing with the other educated nations, but provide plenty of low-intelligent people to be easily incorporated into the Republican Party, while they are brain-washed into thinking that the GOP truly cares for America!
Lastly, Romney would sell off the remaining manufacturing corporations to slave labor Communist Chinese China, where he could pay no vacation pay, no healthcare insurance premiums, not care if children died at their workstations, as long as he can keep the wages under a buck an hour. Then Romney would blame Obama for loving communists, while it is apparent that Republicans always blame others for the things they do themselves! It would seem that it is the Republicans, and AT&T, and Dell, and Hewlett-Packard, and Staples, and Wal-Mart, and Burlington Coat Factory, and BestBuy, and Toys-R-Us and too many more of our manufacturers that have left our labor market, leaving Americans to fend for themselves, while lowering wages to below the living standards of what they were in 1970, for the promise of the almighty dollar, that these greedy bastards believe should neither go into repairing our infrastructure, nor creating jobs for Americans! It is the GOP and corporations that love the Chinese Communists, at the cost of the nation they supposedly revere.......
Name one loophole Republicans would close on the rich, while wanting the burden of our debt to be given to the poor, who can't find jobs in America! And Republicans wonder why people are leaving their own party? And they wonder how they could have lost the last election with all the voter id laws they passed in the swing states!
I have the answer! The GOP represents no one but the Koch Brothers, and the media-convinced followers of bad Americans are on to their tricks! In the next two years, after the Republican-run House of Representatives creates a new crisis each month, and after blocking not one loophole closure upon the rich, doing nothing for America, and passing no job bills, we will be again overwhelmed with right-wing lies to convince us to vote for the Tea Party, and Americans will say "NO!"
Let us hope we can hold our nation together for two more years to remove the GOP from controlling the House of Representatives, putting a stop to their shenanigans! We must hold on until the next election, once again calling upon Senator Reid to change the filibuster laws that haunt the senate's abuility to pass any legislation.
In fact, Senator Reid blew it. We need a new Democrat to lead the Senate. Some Democrat with the backbone to actually do what he promises he will do and not tell us for months he will change things, then do nothing!
Both Parties have enough blame, but the Republicans live in a bubble of denial, making them the worst offenders, while Progressive Democrats have workable plans that could restore the vitality of our nation, if only the right wing Democrats would bother to read the Progressive solutions that would actually work and if the Republicans could ever find a new brain!
did you make up this little fantasy yourself?
When your the best of the Clown Car of Republican nominees, your still a CLOWN.
right - but every one of those "clowns" would have been miles better then obama - the turd
the best clown didn't make it to the finish line - HUNTSMAN. The rest were either truly clowns or clown wannabees. i mean look at the absolute IDIOT contingent - Bachman (and her law degree from rectal roberts u), Herman Cain (the pizza man - sh itty pizza, BTW), Frothy santorum (the biggest fuc king IDIOT of the worthless batch - favors a US sharia "solution", Rick (the prick) Perry - the TEXAS idiot portion of the contingent, Ron Paul (borderline racist, certainly the prime member of the dingbat community), FigNewton GrinGrinch (tossed out as speaker of the house. nothing else needs to be said), and of course, the mouse that squeaked - ROMNEY (mor(m)on, the biggest strike against him, past experience as guv'nuh of Massachusetts, seems to be disliked by the electorate there, his own worst enemy, see the 47% comment, arrogant enough to have not even considered doing a concession speech...)
And the flailing RETHUGS wonder why they lost? TOTALLY OUT OF TOUCH WITH AMERICA, MAYBE?
even more telling - the relative lack of quality of the RETHUG reichwingnutter participants in this discussion...
Hey Ann. Waaaaaa Waaaaaa Waaaaaa!!! Mitt...........STFU!!!
To bad Romney didn't win as we could be living in Tangerine Trees and Marmalade Skies by now.
told Fox News Sunday that he’s still very much stung by his defeat.
Romney, I am GLAD you didn't win. You are arrogant way out of proportion to your importance as a human being on this planet even if you do think you are God's gift from Heaven.
YOU are the one who insulted enough voters with your 47% comment that voters knew exactly where you were coming from, and you JUSTIFIABLY lost the election last November.
A lot of Americans are being adversely affected by the economics of someone of your party and self-conceited ilk-George W. Bush. Yes, across these years of a President of a different party, this country is struggling to get over Bush's hateful to the poor and middle-class economics and two unpaid-for wars. You are a vulture capitalist like the Bushes. You are a vulture period, and no one votes for vultures because we know you would only pad the bank accounts of those who least need that help, and let everyone else die of starvation and exposure to the elements.
The few people who voted for you other than millionaires and billionaires are people who are so gullible that they believe everything the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck would say, and not consider reality or common sense. Some people are so stupid that they will vote against their own bank account because they still believe in the fairy tale called "trickle down."
Most of the people that are rich, worked their way up in their jobs and most were pretty successful. That's what our country was about - a
No,Kathy. Most people who are rich in this country inherited their money, and are the most entitlement-minded of all.
The President has had the sequester bill on line for awhile now. People would rather spew vile and dishonest things, and really don't want to be informed. They'd rather hide behind a keyboard and a screen and throw unintelligent conversation at people who are informed. The same nasty things that I saw in the past campaign is what I am reading and I tell you, that will only get you conservatives only so far ... and then you lose. If the hatred doesn't get you first. Such a waste.
what dishonest things were you referring to? obama lying about the sequester idea coming from the WH.? obama going around the country ginning up fear with lie after lie? obama refusing to work with the GOP ? Which dishonesty were you talking about?
Didn't Romney son Tag say that his dad "really didn't want to be President." But here we have Mr. 47% preaching that if he were there things would get so much better. I doubt it Mr. Romney, you wold definitely be giving tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations while screwing them middle class at the same time. Your Republican cohorts in Congress are doing that on their own.
You are not the only one who wishes you were there to get this mess cleared up. We have a ignorant moron who can't poor piss out of a boot elected to office by the ignorants who can barely read much less have any knowledge of the federal government. These poor saps would vote for anything or anybody that promises to give them something for sitting on their lazy ass smoking ciggs and drinking puke water bud beer. Its a fact folks the ignorants have taken over.
Wow, the right-wingers on this thread sure do have some warped perspectives on entitlement and responsibility. Obama won by appealing to the "takers" while Romney had the support of the "producers?" OK, fine, can't take money away from the "job-creators", right? Because they've done so well at creating jobs. If the wealthy are the producers and the lower class are the "takers", then what exactly would happen if the blue collar workers stopped working for their bosses until they received fair treatment? How much would these "producers" actually produce without their workers, the "takers?"
RICKY BOBBY from Cincy what you and all your liberal friends still refuse to understand is that us blue collar workers WOULD NOT HAVE A " JOB" if it were not for the ugly mean job creators other wise known as the rich ! so when you figure this 3rd grade economics question out you may post an intelligent response.
Prove it Honesty....WHERE ARE THE JOBS? Another republican myth. Get you head out of Mitts rear!
Seems we still cannot get past the bickering, name calling and finger pointing that has left a divide in this country that could lead less to an uprising against government and more to civil unrest between the political ideology factions. To "Rick in Cincy" - if blue collar workers stopped working "until they received fair treatment" they would be unable to pay their bills thus defaulting on their personal debt, causing more issues within our country.
We have important issues facing our country that need to be addressed both immediately and in for the future. Neither of which are being addressed by those who we have elected nor by those who have done the voting. We need to cut spending so that it does not exceed the revenue being made. What can be cut immediately to obtain this goal and what cuts can be made in the future to ensure that we are not overspending? This is not about democrats vs republicans it's common sense - you and I cannot continue to overspend and have to cut expenses in our personal lives and so do our government officials.
Whatever cuts are made are going to hurt and someone will cry foul but there are areas within our government that can reduce spending that will not hurt as much. Unfortunately, some of the areas where cuts can and should be made won't happen because those that represent "the people" will not take from themselves even if the alternative is to take from areas that can least afford it. If we "the people" are really serious about getting our country back to where is belongs (fiscally sound) then the time for the slurs, name calling, finger pointing, etc., is past and the time for healing and facing our issues head on is now. Constructive critisism is one thing but viable solutions and open honest dialog is what we need most right now.
Wanna bet $10,000 and two Cadillacs that he really, really doesn't care about the 47%?
He needed to lose and lost. The Tea Party and a POTUS with no backbone would have finnished off lower income (those tax cheats!) in a flash.
I believe he is a great family man, a compassionate man, a religious and giving person...but he has never lived the life of a low-moderate income family....to him, we are statistics and numbers, people to be counseled and encouraged...in November, we were voters...as the Constitution was designed...even after the gerrymandering of Congress, there are checks and balances...
Mitt has never figured out that the American people never trusted him. Where is your money now Mitt?? God protected America from Mitt.
AND his magic underwear
