Spokesman Jay Carney reiterates the administration's stance that a sequester would directly impact certain aspects of education funding. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan spoke to reporters on Wednesday about the situation.
“What I said is that teachers were getting notices, and in the district we talked about, 110 teachers have gotten notices,” Duncan said Friday after touring the Rolling Elementary School in Takoma Park, Md. “I think there was a misinterpretation that I meant they were being laid off tomorrow.”
But the education secretary still did not indicate whether these notices could be definitively linked to the sequester, or whether they were part of an unrelated warning that affected low-income schools that receive Title I funding.
Duncan made the statement on the pink slips Wednesday when he came to the White House Briefing Room, citing Kanawha County in West Virginia.
“Whether it’s all sequester-related, I don’t know," Duncan said, "but these are teachers who are getting pink slips now."
According to the Washington Post, Kanawha's school superintendent said Thursday night that no teachers have received “pink slips” or been told they would not be coming back in the fall.
He said that because the district “do[es] not know what the cuts are” to Title I, he can’t predict whether teachers will, in fact, lose their jobs.

No, they were not "misinterpreted". Arne was caught in a bald-faced lie trying to hype the Obama administration's exaggerated predictions. But, that is standard procedure for this bunch of liars.

What part of stupid, ignorant, misguided or just plain dumb do you followers of the Grape Kool Aid fall into. $85 Billion are NOT cuts they are reductions in budget increases. Learn it, understand it and quit listening to the Putrid Press (all of them) and the Obamanights of the World as well as the Democrates, Republicans and TP'ers. With the exception of very few specific cut in specific budgets like Defense, every budget dollar from FY 2012 and FY 29013 (Oh I forgot Obama has not subitted a budget) but nevertheless the dollars spent in those FY's will be the same. No one loses a job because there is insufficient funds, no entitlements, programs or pork will be cut out that was in the FY 2012 and FY 2013 funds. And certainly no teachers, firemen, police or any first responders funded by State and Local Govments. There will be plenty of "shovel ready" :) jobs for you to go to and sit on your collective posteriors.
Get over it, quit crying and start learning what is going on in Washington. Those of you that voted for this Class Clown (Community Organizer) deserve to have the entitlements cut! Those of us that did not drink the Kool Aid all our lives but picked ourselves up out of poverty and made something of ourselves are sick and tired of hearing the hollow cries of needing help. I for one have contributed many thousands of dollars over the years back to my community and charities as a whole, at least those I research and support because they use a high percentage of the funds to go to the cause, to assist with making strides to improve conditions. Now with increased taxation and promises of more "reveue generation" on the succesful, I am going to let Mr. Community Organizer deal with the problems. I quit giving!!
The area of defense cuts are looked in due to the fact they are based on the

more than the previous year!

Don't tell me....the sky is falling....again. So far the announced cuts will be in pre-school education, home food care for the aged, TSA staff and traffic control at airports to maximize passenger wait at airports, slash in the number of border control agents to open our borders to illegals.
I figure the $60,000,000 our Secretary of State just gave to the Syrian rebel army means this administration has interest little interest in pre-school children if he will spend their money on foreign adventure. What a bunch of crap heads we have in the White House.

Before you condemn Obama or Boehner, the Dems or Republicans consider this. This is the first event in Washington DC that has made sense in years. IT IS A SPENDING PROBLEM.

To the Military, get over yourself. You are still the best equipped fighting machine in the history of the planet. Be grateful and put your hands back in your pocket. Stop your whining, find a better way to stretch a dollar and quite lowering performance expectations and blaming a lack of funding for failures. With all the money you have been given you have failed to protect our secret information from being hacked through the internet by the Chinese or whomever wishes and succeeds to outsmart your best defensive cyber-security efforts. We borrow money from the Chinese, we buy our goods from these people and they insult us on a regular basis as we tuck our tail between our legs and threaten to respond to their acts with a "strong letter". Oh I know how spanked they must feel; no, not a strong letter. By the way, the last legitimate war we were in and won was WWII. Enough said.

I, for one, am thrilled that the sequester happened. It's high time to cut all the billions in wasteful spending on senseless programs such as building more tanks, even tough the Army doesn't want any more (just so that some stupid city somewhere in the heartland can keep their employees hired. That is so insane. The spending in this country has gone completely out of control. The American people need to throw out all the porkers in Congress, regardless of party affiliation. That is the way to "get our country back."
