NBC/WSJ poll: Public wary about sequester cuts, but Obama in stronger political position than GOP

President Obama has been working hard to raise public fears about the sequester, and cabinet officials have also been speaking out about the dangers of the federal budget cuts. The warnings seem to have had an effect: according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, only 21 percent of the public feel the sequester is a good idea. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.

With automatic, across-the-board spending cuts set to begin Friday, majorities of Americans believe that approach is not a good idea and also say the contentious budget negotiations make them less confident about the U.S. economy, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Click here for full poll results (.pdf)

Despite those findings, a majority still supports Congress moving ahead with either the current cuts or a plan containing even more cuts as a way to reduce the deficit, suggesting the public’s general appetite for reducing spending.

But the poll also shows that as the nation’s political actors once again quarrel over these automatic cuts totaling $1.2 trillion over 10 years – commonly referred to as sequestration or the sequester – President Barack Obama finds himself in a much stronger position than his Republican adversaries.

Related: NBC/WSJ poll: Public says GOP less interested in unity than Obama is

“If the president needs some tweaks and adjustments, the Republican Party is pretty much in need of a major makeover,” says Democratic pollster Fred Yang of Hart Research Associates, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

“The Republicans don’t need a silver lining; they need a whole new playbook,” Yang adds.

Cut a deal – or let the cuts take effect?
In the poll, 52 percent of respondents say the sequester cuts are a bad idea, versus just 21 percent who say they’re a good deal.

What’s more, 51 percent believe that the budget negotiations between Obama and congressional Republicans make them feel less confident about the economy, which is unchanged from when this question was first asked in last month’s poll.

Just 16 percent say the negotiations make them more confident about the economy.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., criticizes President Barack Obama's handling of the looming budget cuts facing U.S. agencies.

But a combined 53 percent prefer that Congress move ahead with the current sequester cuts or a plan that contains even more cuts. Thirty-seven percent want a plan with fewer cuts.

And in a separate question, exactly half of respondents say that Obama and congressional Republicans should work together to avoid the sequester cuts from taking place, while 46 percent believe the cuts – while not perfect – should go into effect.

But the NBC/WSJ pollsters caution that all of these numbers could change if these sequester cuts take place and are as dire as critics say. “A month from now, we might find a very different dynamic at play,” Yang says. “When you feel [these cuts], that’s a different story.”

Obama’s brief honeymoon – but growing support for his top priorities
In addition to the budget debate, the poll shows that Obama’s rise in the polls – after his re-election, his inaugural speech and his State of the Union address – has ended for now.

His overall approval rating stands at a healthy 50 percent, but that’s down two points since January and three points since December.

The percentage approving of the president’s handling of the economy has dropped five points, from 49 percent last month to 44 percent now.

And just 32 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction – down three points since January.

“The poll points to significant vulnerabilities for the president” heading in next year’s midterm elections, says McInturff, the GOP pollster.

Alex Wong / Getty Images

President Barack Obama waves during a visit to Newport News Shipbuilding Feb. 26 in Newport News, Va.

Democratic pollster Yang adds: “The transition from campaigning to governing hasn’t brightened the public’s mood.”

That said, strong majorities support the broad outlines of Obama’s top domestic priorities – on immigration, gun control and raising the minimum wage.

Fifty-four percent favor giving undocumented immigrants the ability to apply for legal status, which is up two points from last month’s NBC/WSJ poll.

Also, 61 percent believe the laws covering the sale of firearms should be stricter, which is up five points since January.

And nearly six in 10 support Obama’s proposal from his State of the Union address to raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $9.00.

Asked which of Obama’s proposals Republicans in Congress should offer a helping hand, 36 percent answer eliminating tax loopholes for the wealthy; 28 percent say expanding background checks for guns; 23 percent cite making preschool available for every child; 17 percent say giving illegal immigrants a path to legal status; and 11 percent say addressing climate change and global warming.

GOP’s poor standing with the public
While Obama has seen his poll numbers drop – albeit within the survey’s margin of error – his political standing remains significantly stronger than Republicans’.

Only 29 percent of respondents say they agree “with most” of what Republicans in Congress have proposed (versus 45 percent for Obama and 40 percent for congressional Democrats).

An identical 29 percent have a favorable view of the Republican Party (compared with 49 percent for Obama and 41 percent for the Democratic Party).

House Speaker John Boehner addresses the ongoing sequester standoff on Capitol Hill.

And the public believes the GOP is more interested in partisanship than Obama is: 48 percent say Obama is pursuing a path on unifying the country in a bipartisan way, while 43 percent say he's taking a partisan approach that doesn't unify the country.

By comparison, 64 percent say Republicans are taking a partisan approach, versus 22 percent who say it's focused on unity.

What’s more, the polls shows the Democratic Party beats the Republican Party on almost every issue – looking out for middle class (by 22 points), Medicare (by 18 points), health care (16 points), reducing gun violence (15 points), Social Security (14 points), immigration (7 points) and even taxes (3 points) and the economy (2 points).

The only issues where the GOP holds the advantage in the survey are reducing the federal deficit (by 6 points), controlling government spending (16 points) and ensuring a strong national defense (26 points).

The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted Feb. 21-24 of 1,000 adults (including 300 cell phone-only respondents), and it has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.

Looks like the majority of Americans are still satisfied with the decisions they made on 11.6.12.

Remember, when right up until election night the Newsfordumbfux crowd were crowing about a decisive Willard win? lol

Not only was Willard rebuked resoundingly, ya'll lost seats in the House & Senate?

Tell us oh so wise right wing nuts, how does it feel to ALWAYS be on the wrong side of argument?

Let the skewed polling conspiracy theories commence...

One of the things that really interests me about all this is that - despite the fact that only 22% of voters call themselves "Republicans," and despite the fact that the Dems won (including getting more total House votes, which we would now control but for gerrymandering) the ReThuglicans CONTINUE to get away with sounding like they are the MAJORITY . . .

WHY ARE WE LETTING THEM DO THIS??? I don't get it. I think we Progressives are TOO reasonable!

.

Here is an example: despite the FACT that all of the well-respected economists say that THIS IS NOT A GOOD TIME TO MAKE MORE CUTS, ReThuglicans have convinced something like 70% of Americans that cutting spending is THE most important thing we should do.

BUT, economists say what we SHOULD be doing is INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE: JOBS, JOBS, & MORE JOBS; education; infrastructure; technology; R & D.

.

Further, if you ask Americans WHAT DO YOU WANT TO CUT? they don't want to cut ANYTHING.

Even if you don't like Lawrence O'Donnell (I DO!) look at a couple segments from last night, when Ezra Klein was guest-hosting - he makes a lot of sense, and explains all this stuff really well.

.

FORWARD! :-)

The Right is the equivalent of Benjamin Button in American politics. Regressing to the pont of hardly being able to stand, uncertain of their life lived backward, afraid of losing the capacity for real relationships with those with whom they've grown familiar.

They are, in short, devolving toward oblivion.

What took so long?

Ever since the once-proud GOP hitched its wagon to the TP and the right wing lunatic fringe, it started a slow descent into oblivion. Until it divests itself of the failed ideology of ultra-conservatism and returns to a more moderate agenda, it will continue to circle the drain. We need the Republican Party of Eisenhower and Dirksen, not the hateful, destructive GOP we currently see that belongs to Boehner, Bachmann, Santorum, McConnell, Perry, and Palin.

Quite predictably things that hurt people (except the wealthy of course). They forgot to add lying, racism and fear mongering to that list.

What then Barack? You're not even mentioning this? Why?

Does he - really think the American people are that stupid to not realize this? (Yes he does)

Those crying about this sequester - have got to feel really stupid - knowing this

It appears this is just next in the line of crisis drummed up by liberals to make Oblahblah look competent. Anyone who can think for themselves can and will see through this disguise.

How is it when polling data is taken NBC/WSJ always has chosen liberal talking points to take to the polls? Like strickter gun laws (wow! criminals really care about this one). or how the article stated that the campaigning was over (somebody needs to tell Obama).

I really like the fact that was omitted, that the sequestered cuts were brought up and approved by Obama and the Democrats. Now Obama is on the campaign trail again with his scare tactics. Using the cut backs, that he approved, to say it is the fault of the Republicans in the House.

Careful Obama to Pinocchio role has already been filled.

I recall the left demanding cuts across the board, shared sacrifice was what their leader told us. 1) This poll is by no means scientific or accurate. Anyone ever heard of "Push Polls". Ya, generally liberal leaning magazines will spin these pulls so the insecure democrats can once again be assured "They are on the right side of history."

2) This only shows that the President is a better liar.

Ask the average person on the street about sequester, and the answer is "What's that?" They don't care. Neither does Obama. Why else would he be playing golf over the weekend with Tiger Woods when the sky's supposedly falling? Just another Obama opportunity to divide. He enjoys all this fighting. It takes everyone's focus off of his incompetence.

Hey, ProFreedom-5130956 (#1.36)

Despite the shortcomings of the gop .... We need a two party system; your socialistic obsession of creating a big government is too costly and takes away our freedoms.

I agree that we need a two-party system.

But your post shows that at least you haven't learned anything. Some rich folks brought on the recession, the poor have suffered more in declining income, job losses, and foreclosures. Why is this OK? Why is it OK for the rich to plunder the poor? Corporate socialism...is the only form of socialism that has existed in the US. Billions of dollars worth of subsidies go to the big oil that needs no handouts. Why?

But the effort to offer equal opportunities to all and to regulate the economy to avoid such recession is such an anathema to your right-wingers. When the poor are helped, when their purchasing power moves up, they will shop to make the rich even richer. Why is this socialism to you. Why social justice is socialism to you?

Research has demonstrated that wider income gap since Reagan has contributed to this highly charged polarized political environment. Why is it good to you?

.

ProFreedom, you are not a pro, you are an amateur without credibility. You are not pro-freedom, you are pro-tyranny.

What i dont understand is with all the technolgoy we have why doesnt the President just video tape his message from DC instead of traavling around from city to city? Talk about unneeded spending its pretty crazy to be talking about sequester but just wastfuly spending money on all these trips. Its just mighty strange to me seems like Obama could be leading by example and cutting some spending. It would realy go along way to show us that he understands I mean he could easily get his messag across on the tv. It might be money from a differnt fund but it sure would set a great example if our President would lead by example and cut back on all these high priced tax payer funded trips around the country. Actions speak louder than any words.

@Alaska......Hate to disappoint you, but there is good reason why nothing ever gets done on gun control. Al Gore made it a centerpiece of his campaign and lost his home state where a win would have made him the 43rd POTUS. Senator Manchin would have lost last November if he didn't fire a 30-06 into a target in a campaign ad to show what a gun lover he was. And John Dingell, he would have lost Michigan long ago if he didn't have an A-plus rating with the NRA. See, the thing is half the NRA members a Democrat voters and that scares the hell out of the Democrats when it comes to re-election time. Oh yes, Obama didn't mention gun control untill he got re-elected. You think the Dems will let him throw them under the bus like he did with Blanche Lincoln and others who supported ObamaCare?

Sequester, lol, that is very minor start at budget cutting that needs to be done. Obama seems like he wants total government control and is doing his best to dumpster the country. The republicans seem to be worried about votes and don't know what to do, and the democrats just follow along like lemmings off whatever cliff the POTUS is jumping off of today.

Meanwhile the press is not reporting news, just whatever politics they happen to be paid to agree with.

Every generation wants to be different from their parents, and in a free society, they can do that. In the 60's, the hippie kids wanted to be as far away from Ozzie and Harriet as they could. Now, the kids look at their parents and say they really screwed things up. Self-gratification. They are all divorced, to hell wth the kids. $17 trillion in debt. Entitlements as far as the eye can see, all to be paid by them as their parents retire and collect freebies via the kid's taxes for the next 20 years.

Ellis, the only "corporate welfare" going on now are the direct payments going to liberal "green energy" companies and to companies like GM that have large union bases! The so-called "Corporate Welfare" that the liberals always scream about are usually tax breaks that let companies buy expensive equipment and write off their expenses faster. This creates immediate jobs and more tax revenue. The liberals always forget that they are the party of "giving everything away" and someone has to produce something to sell and then to be taxed! Hi Ellis,

I don't think the GOP is for corporate welfare as much as the Democrats are, but I do think the GOP wants to protect defense far more than Democrats do. As for the rest, SS and Medicare are specifically EXEMPTED from sequestration, so Mr. Obama doesn't have to worry about those programs being cut anyhow.

I would like the GOP to stop playing the Democrat game. Our elected GOP officials should apologize to the nation for having been complicit, to whatever extent, in the growth of the federal government far beyond the limited scope envisioned by the Constitution, and then pledge to stop all growth of the federal government going forward. If voters want to continue to steal from future generations in order to live beyond our means today, then Republicans should be willing to lose in the next election so thaty voters can ruin America without GOP help. My bet is that far more people are prepared to accept a return to constitutionalism than want evolving socialism. If I'm wrong, then the nation is already lost.

Imagine this...This president has said that the federal government could be made to run far more efficiently. This president proposed the sequester, and now lies about it being forced upon him by the GOP. The cuts in the sequester would only cut planned INCREASES in federal spending, but would not in any way cut actual spending. And our federal government, we are led to believe, is unable to cut ANYTHING from its budget, else nothing but clamity will befall us? If these things are true and we continue to support this president in this cause, then we are pathetic and deserve the failure coming our way. If they are not true, then explain what isn't true and why.

Hey JoeF,

I think you are a little harsh, but I get the point. While I am conservative my bet is that most scientific polls are very accurate. For me the accuracy of the poll isn't the issue unless we can show the sample is skewed improperly, or show that the questions are push-pull instead of fair. I doubt the WSJ engaged in any of that in this poll. So let's--you and me anyhow--get passed that part.

My issue is that poll respondents give answers based upon what they are told, over time, in the context of the initial biases. What I mean is that when you have such a complict and compliant MSM for the president it is anything but a surprise to me that a poll might favor the president over the GOP on this, or any similarly reported issue.

You might dispute my claim. But look at most any issue and it follows the same pattern. Business in the USA is routinely bashed in the MSM, and so support for business among those polled is lower now than in the past. And while any individual instance is just anecdotal, the collective observations of each issue reveal, like clockwork, the same pattern. We bash over time, say, tobacco, and so polled responses about tobacco show most people dislike it. We bash over time, say, oil companies, and oil companies have a very low approval rating from the American people. The fact that these same companies earn a far lower profit than Apple, which has a high approval rating, is due to media presentation as opposed to reality.

So the president has possibly the most docile media coverage in recorded American history, and anyone would be surprised that his numbers would remain higher than his adversaries? Not this American. But then again I am capable of critical thought.

Hey Ellis,

Twice now you've made the assertion that Republicans favor corporate welfare while implying by the absence of the same charge against Democrats that they don't. I think you are wildly wrong on this charge. The GM bailout is just one massive example. But there are also subsidies for energy firms, high tech firms, colleges and universities, just to name a few. But the largest way corporate welfare is distributed by the government hasn't got anything to do with direct payments...it's regulation. Small firms are often unable to handle the compliance costs that would get them into the government contracting business. I think the evidence that exists shows that Democrats are far more corporate welfare-friendly than Republicans. Which isn't meant to excuse Republicans for their own actions.

As far as your income comparison I think I go at it differently too. How much you make isn't any of my business unless I am forced to pay your compensation. I believe in economic liberty. I wish you did as well.

You do know Obama barely got 51% in 2012 and lost 10% from his 2008 electoral votes, don't you? He just continues to slide. The midterms will be interesting.

Ahh, yeah, and I "do know" President Obama was elected twice to President of the United States. Your first pick McCain/Palin loss, your second pick, Romney/Ryan loss. That leaves you a little bitter doesn't it?

Have you found a job yet? I remember you once challenged me to some type of foolish job record. What was your response to my credentials?

So you want Pelosi to belittle herself, and act an ass like Boehner and his crew for what reason? Maybe she has more class than those idiots you mentioned. You know it's not always necessary to fight fire with fire, and if I had to guess, she's sitting back laughing at how these two idiots are making complete fools of themselves and the "Stupid Party."

Rich,

Farmers being paid not to grow crops and government subsidizing dairies to keep milk and cheese prices low, is corporate welfare by any definition, not to mention big oil subsidies. But I do agree democrats are guilty as well..........However, you totally missed the point I was trying to make, that it would neither benefit Boehner or Obama's cause to let the pending cuts take place, and I do not believe they will.

And as a retired long time business owner I do believe in economic liberty, but I also believe it is a business owners obligation to pay the help that builds their business a livable wage. If you cannot do that and grow your business you are not a very good businessman.......just my opinion

It is a interesting poll to sort through. And I agree the republican party needs a make over. However to be fair there is absolutely no doubt all of Washington which includes Obama, Democrats and Republicans need a complete make over. All of these clowns need to be booted from office. I get tired of Obama and democrats that think they do not have a spending a problem and a problem with Republicans that act like they just figured our how to save money. Both sides got us in this fix and both sides should work on getting us out. However both sides including Obama have done nothing at all to further that process. The democrats talk about making cuts that go in effect in 2015 and 2020. That is a a bad lie or a bad joke on their part. The Republicans act like the tax code is just fine. They be stupid too. Take away all loop holes. Flatten the code and balance the budget. I really cannot beleive they cannot find 2.5% savings anywhwere with all the waste on both sides of the aisle. They all have time to appear for their sides on all the talk shows but not enough time to do the right thing.

I could care less what party you support. Why don't you try telling your representative they need to do what is right for the entire country not just a section of it. If you think your party on either side of the aisle is so great you must be suffering from a lack of brain cells. @moshululuu this also include nacy Pelosi. You guys spend so much time defending your party like they give a rats butt about you. Its all of them laughing at you and calling you idiots because they have succeeded at dividinge and conquering.

The GOP needs a what? a Make over? If the GOP was a house it would not be suffering from chipping paint or lose shingles. The diagnoses would be more like a cracked Ridge plate, mold, termite damage and a crumbling foundation with 5 feet of water in the basement. They needed a poll to tell them that the GOP is Broken? America told them that for two major elections, plus the two they had to cheat to win.

Cheating in a national election can work if it's a close race, just like they did in Florida in 2000. But you can't cheat it when the votes are that overwhelming. This is the only lesson the GOP has figured out.

You Can't fix the GOP unless you get rid of the materials that are damaged. We are talking full tear down renovation here. The moral equivalent of starting over. the democratic party was once almost as bad, they had to wait for the old guys to die, before the young ones could rebuild. The dixiecrats had to be gone for us to have a real party. For the republicans to have a real party, the fringe that runs it, has to retire or die off of old age. fortunately for them, that's not too far away. Unless of course they get stuck on the Idea that people like Palin and that guy who sang "cat scratch fever" (Ted Nugent) are the answer. they are not the answer, they are the problem.

Hi Ellis,

You could be right about their motivations. But I think Mr. Obama wants the cuts to go through so he has yet one more straw man argument to make about why this economy under his 5th year as president remains so moribund. And I think Republicans want cuts (not nearly enough imo) and might see this as the only way to go about it. The poll results cut the other way as Republicans want to be elected in 2014 again, and so they will probably think that giving in will help then get votes. It won't.

As far as economic liberty...You can't claim to both support it AND to claim that you would impose on other free people your economic will. It's a guess, but I think that like most people you want to say liberty and freedom matter to you. It sounds right after all. But it's the outcomes you want more. I would eliminate entirely the minimum wage. People should work for whatever wages they are willing to work for so long as they are free to make the choice. When you impose costs because it suits your own will, in this case the minimum wage you think needs to increase, then for those products or services that people are not willing to buy at the higher resulting price demand falls, and so does the employment of the people doing the job.

So, wouldn't the proper counter argument to your claim simply be that you favor higher wages but turn a blind eye to the increasing unemployment? I guess a living wage is meaningless to the person without a job to work at, you know?

Even at middle-age, for some reason I have a tendency to think of the Republican culture of hate and dishonesty in the context of a relatively recent phenomenon, as if some kind of 'change' took place within the party in just the past few years. But I was reminded a few nights ago (between 8:00 and 9:00 central time) that the same beliefs and practices have been prevalent among the (radical, anyway) right since at least the early 1950s, and the era of McCarthy. A conscious effort is required on my part to reform that context. I anxiously await the education that I lack about that.

Polls are only as good as the sampling of people pulled for them. Most polls pull a few thousand people so I can get any answer I want depending on where I pull the names from to poll. Also a few thousand does not come close to a true number when there are millions of people living and working in the US. King Fish is right slowing the increase in spending has some how became a cut in spending. Also Mr. Obama using the back drop of first responders and the like for his address's to the nation. Are getting a bit out of hand He bargained for the cuts he calls the end of the world now. He said the debt is not moral yet he gets tax increase and say pulling back 85 billion in spending out of a trillion dollar plus budget is not do able. How and when will we pay off the 16 trillion and rising debt?

Increasing tax's won't ever be enough if you took all the wealth from the top 100 billionaires you'll probably pull in a little over a trillion dollars. So now remember you took all their net worth. That covers maybe one yr of spending at current rates that does nothing for the 16 trillion borrowed for programs in place. If you make 50 k a yr why don't you have a couple 100 k cars in the drive and send you kids to Harvard or Yale while vacationing in France? Because you can't afford too oh don't get me wrong we all want to but the moneys not there. Yet some how we think the they (or someone else) is going to cover the massive debt we are racking up.

So after the money has be taken from all the rich folks look in the mirror because it's your turn at bat to help pay down the debt. The good news the system cant keep this up forever the bad news the crash is going to be far uglier then 08. The US dollar is tied into just about every country in the world while struggling to keep its value up and the faith people have in it. When that faith fails and it will when the world thinks or sees we can't pay ours debts. It's Game over we are at the moment the worlds reserve currency .

The 08 problem wasn't fixed it had a ton of money thrown at it while the only thing it did was bought us a little time. The ponzi scheme is showing cracks in the system they tried to patch it but you cant just keep throwing money at it. Money and currency are two different things I should say you cant keep printing currency to fix the problem. Currencies like the dollar have no foundation they are tied to other then the faith you have that when to take it to the store it will buy something. Or the faith someone has when they buy bonds or invest that currency in their 401 k. If inflation rises which it will now it takes 2 dollars to by what 1 dollar did . If something is scarce in general it holds more valve same with currency the more that is in circulation the less value it can have.

These polls are MSN twisted bunk and the American public with half a clue and an education understands this sequester was the Presidents idea, he should stand behind it and be a winner because it is what is right. The sequester is a winner and he could make points with it and instead he will after all said and done lose by demeaning it and denying his role in it. This isn't a cut, it is the cutoff of an increase in spending that was scheduled and they are still increasing about 4% in addition to the 14% in the past four years. What a bunch of big spenders, Obama is just crying now because he can't redistribute more wealth and raise more taxes on the middle class that he already has done and lied about. Nothing but a pack of liars in the whitehouse and all he does is talk @!$%# and you uneducated people believe it hook line and sinker. This would be the perfect time to launch a third major political party.

Perhaps just a simple platform of having political reform of the politicians and how they operate their revolving doors between oversight of an industry and then later quitting their political position to join this industry which essentially is just bribery by other methods not involving money could be made unlawful. Add to this the elimination of privateer Federal Reserve Bank and I believe you would have the beginnings of a Newer World Order; one based on fairness and the elimination of persecution of those who are not from the wealthy ruling class who are being played for fools, made to work harder for an ever lessening share of the profits, through the rather cheap methods of distraction, making a false sense of achieving nirvana through buying trinkets, playing one group against one another, etc.

I don't deny that some people should have more wealth; but when they want more political power greater than the power of any other individual regardless of class I draw the line.

We need to bring the ideas of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness once more to the forefront and stop those who are trying to turn us into a third world country with a very few individuals with great wealth and power while the majority are just made to suffer in sweatshops for extremely low pay.

Some might say that you have simply provided a pointless parable followed by some snappy anecdotes and flashy cliches. Others might say that you have made a few of the only relevant, substantial, or even actual points in favor of the conservative position that have ever been observed anywhere in the wild, let alone on this thread. In fact, these old eyes curiously perk up to the sudden and unexpected appearance of apparent points which our side might duly need to consider and then successfully counter to maintain undisputed preeminence. In even further fact, I would consider your post to be sufficiently adequate credentials that if you alone suddenly comprised 90% of the Republican Party, its credibility would have just as suddenly increased by about 89%. And if you were running for president, I would almost go and vote for you just because you are a tiny beacon of legitimate light bravely shining from the dank depths of an otherwise very dark abyss. Seriously, kudos to you. Now that we on the left actually have something besides hate-filled platitudes and vile mindless dribble slapping us in the face, we should get to work searching for the historically analogous, mathematically provable, or pragmatically pertinent reasons why your position should be amended, if those can be found.

Getting rid of the rhetoric and political leanings... we should actually like the show...

No cuts are "good" cuts. No cuts are "easy" cuts. So, if you must, taking a raw percentage is as good as any. If anything, make them at as high a level you can to allow flexibility to those that actually know what their doing (i.e. NOT Congress). Let the cuts come in, take the hit, then concentrate on GROWTH for a change. Idiots.

GOP makeover? What a laugh. The GOP just wore a suicide pack, it went off, and they act like they need a little Botox.

No, the GOP currently is without a leader, without cohesion, and is splintered into too many pieces... pieces that are so far removed from each other that they cannot come together to mount anything logical. We're seeing "glimmers" of reasonableness at times, but nothing like a coming together or a desire for a real makeover.

Bush caused the original Tea Party (reckless spending, huge debt, and a collapsed economy)... The "lost our way" GOP then decided to pick up the movement to keep from losing power... The movement turned to hate when Rove and company fueled the fires of hate... the GOP "leaders" lost control and haven't recovered since.

So what would a "GOP makeover" look like? Major surgery. They're in ICU at the moment just trying to stabilize... "recovery" isn't possible yet.

    Farty Redhead

    1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating
    the wealthy out of prosperity.

True. We are far from either notion, however. 3.6% taxes on the rich means an extra $360 on a $100,000 project that has a healthy 10% ROI... far from "legislating out of prosperity". Providing the poor with sustenance and opportunity is far from "legislating into prosperity". Capitalism requires and creates losers and winners. It will fail, however, when winners have it all and the losers are the majority and have absolutely nothing. A strong middle class fuels our economy... and getting off your exaggerations will allow reasonable legislation to let that happen.

    2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

True in the extremes. We are not anywhere near the extremes. What is also true is that the poor can easily survive to work another day on just a portion of the excesses of the rich. Again, we're talking increments... not extremes. Unless you're advocating letting the poor starve to death, were just talking about where the line is drawn for low level support... nothing more.

    3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

If you don't like the general operations of the government, then I don't know what to tell you. But again, I would be the first to yell out your slogans if they were carried out in the extremes. But I will not now, since they are but exaggerations and rhetoric derived from Rove's "false drama" politics. Here are the FACTS that you must learn to live with: 1) The economy collapsed under Bush's watch, 2) Major economists and the "powers that be" determined that growth was the answer to both our recovery and debt and that austerity would put us in a "death spiral", and 3) spending has been focused at keeping our people and economy ALIVE... not on the "give-away" you imply.

    4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

And as the government should not divide, it should not promote wealth concentration. If you listen closely, Obama is trying to undo the wealth concentrating laws PUT IN PLACE BY GOVERNMENT. So it seems rather foolish to scream about government's role in "dividing" when legislators decided how it would be divided in the first place. "Tweaking" our tax system is far from "dividing". Incrementally supporting the unfortunate as we recover temporarily with taxes that used to be "normal" is far from "dividing".

    5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

If it were true. What you just said is identical to Romney's 47% statement... maybe worse. Statements like these come from extreme prejudice and profiling... and pretends to know the feelings and motives of the unfortunate. It underestimates the will of the fallen and overestimates the skills and qualities of the fortunate. It removes faith in PEOPLE. To line up with that statement is to give up on American notions altogether... and it is an insult to us all.

The Republican Party needs to do the following:

    1) Wake up to the fact that the 1950's are over. We are in the 21st century. The US is no longer majority white, majority male. The US is getting browner. Deal with it. Women are a force to be reckoned with. Deal with it.

    2) Be inclusive, not exclusive. It's no longer viable to be a party for angry old white men

    3) Become more centrist and more moderate. As long as the hard-right and the Tea Party are allowed to set the agenda, the party will continue to lose national elections. In fact, it will become extinct, and it will be their own doing if it does.

    4) Select better candidates, both nationally and locally. Romney and Ryan were the best they could do? Todd Akin was the best they could do? Richard Mourdock was the best they could do? Lets not forget Michelle Bachmann, Joe Walsh and Allen West. If people like these people are the best candidates the Republican Party can come up with, the party may be doomed any.

    5) Get better leadership in Congress. Your stated goal was to make sure President Obama was a one-term president. How did that plan work out? Speaker Boehner is weak and is willing to be lead around by the nose by his caucus. Eric Cantor wants Boehner's position so badly he can taste it, and will doing anything and everything to make himself look good and Boehner look bad.

    6) Quit relying on such people as Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly or Fox News (an oxymoron if ever there was one) for factual information. They are niche marketers and that's all they are. Their appeal is to the lowest common denominator. As long as people like these are allowed to define the Republican brand, Republicans will be seen as a bunch of ignorant fools.

This is a very dangerous road we're on but people just don't care. With gas and food prices on the rise the economy will hurt, what's the first thing you cut back on, entertainment! so this large industry is the first to layoff and then businesses close up, the low income people don't feel it because they're down at their local Family Video store renting movies or at McDonald ordering off the value menu so it makes no difference to them unitl they have to go to the doctors because of all the fries they've eaten and now we have to pay for their heathcare, just friggin lovely!

The Republican Party needs to put so much distance between what it should be and what it has let a few radical propagandists define it as, that an argument could be made to include a name change with the overhaul. The obvious problem with that notion explains part of the reason these radicals infiltrated the Republican Party and destroyed its credibility to begin with - name recognition, in terms of the party itself and some of its more credentialed members (to whom big promises were made, and who may now regret it).

In fact, some of the most radical religioneers might have even required remuneration to ransack the Republican Party instead of starting a whole new party, and naming it something like "Gods Army of People Infiltrating the Next Generation" (GAPING) or "Biblical Usurpers Teaching Theology to the Most Unbalanced in a New Chapter of History Everywhere Reason Sleeps".

        The Republicans should just stick to two simple messages and keep repeating them;

1 - The skyrocketing Debt will be devastating to the future of our children.

2 - The massive increases in the money supply to fund the Deficits will result in massive Inflation, high Interest Rates, and more Unemployment.

These are simple messages that even the 'low information voters' will understand, and there is no doubt that we will have to deal with these problems in the near future.

Obama's own 2013 Budget projections show that the National Debt will increase from $9.986 Trillion at the end of fiscal 2008 to $20.392 Trillion at the end of 2016 (Obama's last year) - but President's budget projections are notoriously 'optimistic' - it will likely be closer to $25 Trillion in 2016. The Interest cost alone will be devastating.

The Chinese are no longer buying our Debt - in fact, they have quietly 'cashed in' about $200 Billion of their loans to us over the last year (they know inflation is coming), and the Federal Reserve has had to replace that money by effectively 'printing new money' - along with about $1 Trillion in new money to finance the Deficit. The money supply (M1) has increased from about $1.4 Trillion in 2009 to about $2.5 Trillion now. Every responsible economist will tell you that this is highly "INFLATIONARY" - ala the 14% Inflation and 18% Interest Rates under Jimmy Carter in 1980.

        Even the far-left Liberal outlet The Huffington Post recognized this;

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sheldon-filger/federal-reserve-begins-ma_b_677483.html

Since the sequester cuts amount to less than 2% of the spending for 2013, does ANYONE seriously think that there is not 2% of fat that could not be cut from bloated federal spending? Especially since spending is more than $600 Billion higher than in 2008 (+21%)?

Besides, because this is just a cut from the 'baseline' INCREASE in spending, it's not really a CUT, because the actual spending will still increase.

How about the Obama, Cloward - Piven agenda? Freaking, Socialist pigs. It will catch up to you Lefty Loons soon.

Obama is NOT a "socialist." Cut out the hyperbolic crap. It's this kind of stuff that is turning the public away from the GOP message.

Since the sequester cuts amount to less than 2% of the spending for 2013, does ANYONE seriously think that there is not 2% of fat that could not be cut from bloated federal spending? Especially since spending is more than $600 Billion higher than in 2008 (+21%)?

I keep seeing this point, but it's very misleading. The sequester doesn't touch Social Security, mandatory spending, debt interest payments, and a few other items, so although it's only 2% of the TOTAL budget, the cuts can only occur from less than half of the total budget. It's right there in the language of the bill, it cuts 8.5-9.6% (I believe, I don't feel like double checking right now) from EVERY agency that is being effected by it. That's far more than 2%.

In addition, there are items in every budget that CANNOT be cut. For example, the military cannot order 90% of a submarine. Since they cannot take money out of this expenditure, they will have to make up for the cuts elsewhere. This is why they are talking about furloughing employees for 1 day a week for an effective 20% paycut. The same can be said for many other agencies. This is not scare mongering, it's the very real effect that the sequester will have.

And if you don't think it'll ripple through the economy as a whole, increase unemployment, shrink GDP, and risk a double dip recession, you're not paying attention and listening to economists.

Yes, if deficit reduction is the goal, spending cuts will need to be made (there is some argument however regarding whether deficit reduction is a nobel goal in the midst of a recession, but that's a separate issue from the sequester), but a compromise deal should be reached that allows for more targeted cuts (rather than across the board) and if possible, an increase in revenue. Although we know the GOP will NEVER in a million years agree to any tax hikes that effect the top 1-2%, if they're middle class tax hikes however, they'll go along gleefully.

German citizens came to hate their Conservatives for having led them into the disastrous World War I, and the only way that Adolf Hitler could build his conservative party was to fool German citizens, by calling it the National "Socialist" Party, to drain votes from German communist and real German socialist political parties.Germans were fed up with Conservatives because of the war loss.

It worked for Hitler, who had the backing of the conservative German General Staff......,this deceit also fooled conservative German citizens, who, apparently loved the flags, the drums and trumpets, but who failed to read his position papers...they also loved Hitlers blaming of Jews as the real cause of Germanys defeat in World War II,even though it was evident that General Staff blunders caused their defeat.

German Conservatives, the Nazis proclaimed their love of the party by wearing flag - lapel buttons...today American politicians feel forced to wear American flag lapel buttons, even though we know they are all Americans....whats it prove, you are MORE patriotic ?

American voters became fed up with the two wars started by American Conservatives (Iraq and Afghanistan), as well as by the economic melt-down created by George W. Bush....it's no wonder then, that the Republicans have fragmented into two parties, the Tea Party nut cakes, and the "moderate" Republican Party, many members of which would like to disavow them selves of the Tea Party crowd, which is an embarrassment to the right.

Interestingly, the actual American Revolution was NOT the popular uprising which Americans believe occurred,..rather it was our 1st Civil War...more Americans joined the English Army to keep the King in control, than joined Washingtons Army....it was a struggle in 1775 between American Conservatives who wanted to remain as a colony, and American Liberals who wanted to break away from England...the REAL Boston Tea Party, was conducted by the Sons of Liberty, which was a Liberal group...one of the raiders was Paul Revere.

Hundreds of thousands of American Conservatives, back when the Revolution ended, fled to London,Canada or to Carribbean Islands..this included the only son of Benjamin Franklin, William Franklin who moved to London. Today,in Canada, approx 20% of Canadian citizens have descendants in their family tree,of American conservatives who hated the Revolutionary Tea Party folks, and who moved to Canada during or after the Revolutionary war.

Ironic, that the current usage of the Tea Party name, has been stolen, just like Hitler stole the "Socialist" name...ironic too, is the fact that so many Republicans are unaware of their own history.

NBC and WSJ take a poll? That's like asking Hitler what happened to the Jews during the Holocaust. You know in advance that you will get lie after lie.

They probably gave out free cell phones and kool aid to the respondents.

And the white-house-run-liberal-media keeps spewing the lie that the sequester is a Republican idea when it actually came from the white house and O-bow-to-me threatened to veto any legislation to change it. The brain-dead liberals need to watch those video clips...oh, wait...they are only on Fox News; another example of the state-run media in the tank for the divider-in-chief.

Another reason why, I too, am now ashamed of my country.

            @pigotry 1.71 -

Over the last four years I've learned plenty- you can't fix your bank account by spending more money you don't have. Sounds simplistic perhaps, but at least I get it. Your party doesn't get it and has demonstrated it well.

The idea of big government is very disturbing coming from your side since, it seems, libs want someone 'taking care of them'. You call me 'pro-tyrrany' which is a cheap shot, but in your case, I would say you're 'pro-socialism'. It can be nothing else! It's the easy/hard way out and it abdicates responsibility away to another party to handle the aspects of life you don't want to handle yourself.

While it's easier to stick your hand out for 'free' assistance it's also hard to accept that you have people telling you how much sugary soda you're allowed to drink, what guns you may purchase, and the list goes on. That is not what our country was built upon except your party seems intent on destroying it at the core in favor of this 'utopian ideal' that exists only in fantasy. If that's not 'tyrranical' then I don't know what is!

And your credibility exists how? The only mission you have is to attempt to discredit anyone who differs with your narrow views and start name-calling, which is sophomoric. But this is what we, who don't consider ourselves connected to any mainstream party, have come to expect from you 'first responders' on here. And you want to gain a partisan buy-in how? As long as you polarize your agendas with hatred you'll never get posters like me to take your side seriously and we'll be back here slinging our own zingers right back at ya!

Researchers at the institute for Advanced Studies in the Hazards of Understanding Republican Nonsense have just identified three main characteristics unique to conservative mathematics, leading them to the discovery that this bazaar new form of math is actually derived through an extrapolation from the Book of Revelations. After exhaustive research and analysis, the three characteristics identified are that 1) it works even better without the use of the equal sign (=) required by all other forms of mathematics, 2) it can be interpreted to mean anything that you need for it to mean at any given time, and 3) it has the unique ability to accurately describe conservative reality even when it is used by a blind monkey scribbling gibberish with a crayon.

Just give the democrats, liberals and socialists in this country what they want. They did win the election after all. It had been proven throughout history that countries are built on conservative ideals and destroyed by liberal ideals. Rome anyone? If you liberals would drop the NY times and pick up a real history book you might understand all the comments that never seem to make a dent in your concrete brains like "those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it." Here's another good one for you to ignore like the others:

            "The budget should be balanced,
            the Treasury should be refilled,
            public debt should be reduced,
            the arrogance of officialdom
            should be tempered and controlled,
and the assistance to foreign lands
should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt.
People must again learn to work,
instead of living on public assistance."

            Cicero 63 bc.

Again, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

            Hey ProFreedom,

I fear we have become the minority in our country. It's clear from election results over time that the Democratic Party is, almost to a person, our polar opposite. But it's just as true that the Republican Party has a great number--though probably not a majority yet--of people with a similar mindset to those very Democrats they oppose. Sure, they might support different kinds of spending, calling the views of their opposites "stupid" or "unwise", but they still favor extra-constitutional federal actions.

The sequester debate is just the latest in a long line of examples. President Obama claims that the smallest of cuts in the rate of GROWTH of the federal spending pie will result in a calamity that is nearly biblical in proportions. But isn't this what John Boehner did just the otehr day too? I prefer that we take the route of morality that Mr. Obama claimed he would. He said, before being president as a mere candidate, that Mr. Bush was IMMORAL for spending the money of future generations the way he had, but now Mr. Obama has doubled down on that immorality, and then doubled down again.

Let's bite the bullet now. Let's slash spending by returning the federal government to only those duties and powers given it by the Constitution. Limit Congress to Article 1, the President to Article 2, and so on. If we voters don't like the outcome then we have Article 6 as our solution. My bet is that our America will become far more prosperous, will generate greater wealth and happiness, and will provide a better future for our heirs, than anything our present "leadership" is pursuing today.

Did anybody happen to read this was a democratic Poll? What do you expect.

the Wall Street Journal is hardly a shill for Democratic causes.

In addition, if you look at the full poll, it has Obama's "approval rating" at 50% approve. Other polls have his approval rating as high as 55% (http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-approval-rating-poll-republicans-bloomberg-2013-2) so it would ACTUALLY suggest that the NBC/WSJ poll conducted here UNDERSAMPLED Democrats.

People need to learn about scientific polling. Just because this poll sampled more Democrats than Republicans does not mean that it slants democrat. It sampled more Democrats because there ARE currently more registered democrats than republicans, and you can look at registered voter rolls to confirm this. Because of this, any good poll will necessarily poll more D's than R's. Thinking this amounts to "oversampling" is what got the Romney internal pollsters in trouble when they conducted their own internal polling to show that Romney was going to WIN the 2012 election...

              EEngineer,

Sounds like you support being told (by big brother) what to do.

As Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.

I personally take responsibility for my own life and decisions and my goal in life is to become prosperous!

You have a problem with THAT?

And I suspect NOT because, at the very least as a basis, 1) you have to know that there is a difference between "Strategy" and "Tactic". Strategy has regard and Tactic does not. 2) you have to have the ability to think 3 moves ahead AND 3) you have to "know" when and if you've got your opponent "in check" (BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO POINT IT OUT AND TELL YOU!)

Instead, they're just going to come back with "naany-naany-boo-boo, YOU GOT Y"OUR" INEFFECTIVE TAX INCREASE, now make your next move!" How does he continue to not see and NOT KNOW, at this/that point that his Opponents calculate every move for at least 3 moves ahead?!

Mystery Rhee " Really it's just Romney's "47%-that-don't-count-because-they-don't-deserve-to-exist" pronouncement, PERSONIFIED."

Actually, what Romney REALLY said is that he didn't expect to get most of the 47% that depend on government welfare because Obama promises more benefits than we can afford.

In that regard he was completely accurate.

According to the NY Times exit polls, Obama won the income group that includes welfare recipients by a net margin of 12.9 million votes, while Romney won the other 75% of voters (the ones that pay the income taxes to support welfare) by a net margin of 8 million votes.

The net effect was that Obama won by the 4.9 million vote difference.

The Obama campaign rhetoric that 'Romney will take away your food stamps' was a very powerful message to those getting public assistance, even if it was not really true. 'Chicago-Style' politics in action - using taxpayer funds to get reelected.

By the way - Welfare cost the taxpayers about $735 Billion in 2012, which is almost 70% of the entire Deficit, but then who really cares?

So when do the 'cuts' begin?

In Bush's last 4 years (2005-2008), total federal spending was $10.338 Trillion.

In Obama's first 4 years (2009-2012), total federal spending was $14.115 Trillion, an increase of $3.277 Trillion (+30%).

That extra $3.277 Trillion doesn't seem to have 'stimulated' the economy much. Perhaps the REAL problem with the economy/jobs is the anti-business regulations passed by Obama.

Republicans are the party that is trying to limit the rights and choices of women,

If you're referring to the abortion issue, I believe that would fall under traditional values, now if families would raise their sons to respect women, and when a woman says no, that's exactly what it means NO, Hands Off, would this then be a issue? Society itself has gone so far off morals and values that it's a no wonder why we're dealing with these and other issues.

But you stated issues(plural) so what's the other issues and please let's have a conversation without the cursing, it just shows your ignorance.

LMarkt, you about as bright as a cockroach. Your EXACTLY what's wrong with this country, your completely brainwashed into thinking that spending money you don't have is acceptable over long periods of time. Just try doing that in your own life and see how that works for you. sell stupid elsewhere, were quite full up on here already.

Let's see... how to respond to this without getting canned by Newsvine...

JCB, your brilliance is unbounded... on the low end.

Where on earth did I say I advocated CONTINUED spending? Never. In fact, I don't. The time for spending to jump-start the economy was over long ago. It was done and it did it's job, but there's really not much that can be done with the negativity being leveled by the right. Consumer confidence is low and will remain low as long as the GOP continues with it's quest of dysfunction and false drama.

Take Roy Wilson's post as an example. He stated:

                                The Republicans should just stick to two simple messages and keep repeating them;

1 - The skyrocketing Debt will be devastating to the future of our children.

2 - The massive increases in the money supply to fund the Deficits will result in massive Inflation, high Interest Rates, and more Unemployment.

These are simple messages that even the 'low information voters' will understand, and there is no doubt that we will have to deal with these problems in the near future.

as though it's the total answer and that Republican slash-cut policy will cure it all! It won't.

Yes, continued skyrocketing debt will ruin this country... but how do you reduce debt? Through austerity? Or through strong growth? Math supported by top economists say GROWTH is the FIRST answer. To cut while the economy is down is the very worst things you could do.

But Roy is right... low information voters will eat his arguments whole... just like you did.

Actually, if one cared enough about the conversation to be first, one could write a script to alert one when an article first gets published. She apparently does and did. You're notion that she works for NBC has no basis in fact.

(If you're the same Roy Wilson that I'm assuming you to be)......I don't have the exact quote at my fingertips right now but I could (time-consumingly) go back and find it"

                                  I'll save you the trouble - here it is;

“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That, that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what … These are people who pay no income tax."

Now you can 'spin' it all you wish, but to me he was saying that the 'welfare' voters will vote for Obama because he gives them 'free' government handouts.

PS - Unfortunately for Romney, it was characterized by the media as 'heartless', but the fact remains that those on welfare DID vote for Obama in overwhelming numbers, while those that pay income taxes to support those on welfare voted for Romney.

According to the NY Times exit polls, 31.7 million voters in the low income demographic group that includes welfare recipients voted for Obama 22.3 million vs only 9.4 million for Romney, for a net margin of 12.9 million votes for Obama.

The other 95.1 million voters (most of whom pay income taxes to support those on welfare) voted 51.6 million for Romney vs 43.5 million for Obama. Romney's 8 million vote net margin in this group was overwhelmed by the 'welfare vote' for Obama.

Well, we've tried the 'spend ourselves to prosperity' approach for the last 4 years, and all we have from it is another $6 Trillion of debt. The National Debt was $10.6 Trillion when Obama took office, and is $16.6 Trillion now, and he projects it to be $20.3 Trillion in 2016 (optimistically).

Perhaps it's time to try something new - like encouraging businesses instead of punishing them with tens of thousands of pages of new regulations and mandates and moratoriums and restrictions and tax increases.

                                        On that we can agree. We need both spending cuts AND tax increases (on everyone) to get back on a proper fiscal basis, but what we have now is a twofold problem;

Obama insists on more taxes and no spending cuts.

The Republicans have already agreed to $600 Billion in new taxes (on the rich), and are now insisting on spending cuts.

And 'never the twain shall meet'. Both sides are acting like First Graders with their "It's their fault" blame gamesmanship, and in the meantime nothing gets done.

I'm sure you disagree, but I place most of the blame on Obama for his focus on 'campaigning' and 'class warfare/divide and conquer' rhetoric, instead of acting like a leader, but then he's never really had any experience in anything but trying to demonize his opponents, so I guess real 'change' is difficult.

First of all, if you have such tender sensibilities, these forums might not be for you. The term describes exactly what I am talking about.

                                          http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bull@!$%#

Society itself has gone so far off morals and values that it's a no wonder why we're dealing with these and other issues.

Whose morals are we talking about? The morality of wealth and power worship? Sex? Divorce? Cheating? My moral compass tells me that love and compassion are righteous. Forgiveness. Judge not lest ye be judged. People are more important than money. If your personal morality doesn't accept abortions (or contraception, divorce, whatever) then follow your beliefs. While I've never had an abortion, I would never force anther woman to carry a pregnancy to term. I don't believe it is a sin, everyone knows plenty of pregnancies don't make it to term, and my spiritual beliefs do NOT believe it is murder.

Meantime, republicans are trying to limit the rights of different groups of people like minorities, women and gays. These limits may not effect you personally, but they do many others. Of course all parents should teach their kids respect etc, but that is a fairy tale, it has never been the case that everyone does the right thing with themselves and their kids. I do, and I'm proud of my sons. Sorry I have to leave.

I have had to go so far down that I have forgotten my points but here goes.Knucles The main reason that Rome died was because the Government became an Oligarchy and shipped out too much work to their Provinces, ensuring that Roman citizens could not make a decent living. They then instituted Bread and Circuses to allay citizen anger.Upon finding that chronic unemployment meant that taxes were unable to be payed, they appointed leading citizen responsibility, meaning that those responsible had to ensure that regional taxes were payed. The Roman populace started to agree that Rome was not worth defending so when envious border nations started to invade the borders the defense of the people was neither adequate nor successful. There were more reasons such as compeating revolutions from generals but we are tending to repeat many of former Empires mistakes.

You mention that love and compassion are righteous except when it comes to an unborn child, right?

Then you stated everyone knows plenty of pregnancies don't make it to term, I believe that would be considered a miscarriage.

Then I like how you SPIN you into minorities, and gays. When the question, which you neglected to give further explanation on, was about limiting the rights and choices of women. However no mention on the current issue of this Prez and limiting our gun rights.

Does these limits effect me, you decide, my spouse is Hispanic, my Gradfather who was an immigrant followed the policies and procedures and became a US Citizen, he wasn't looking for a "Free Ride".

Bush believed in the free market and government non-intervention. He fought every attempt to control runaway mortgage vultures. Don't believe me? Google "one finger salute from the White House".

You're absolutely right but Repulicans stand for personal responsibility. Don't you think that it's sad that people can't make life decisions and need policies, regulations, and laws to live?

Before the housing market situation came about, we were told by the broker that we could buy any house we wanted, but being responsible we took into consideration different aspects, such as what if we needed a "new" car, or if some type of house repair was needed, so we bought a house that was within OUR means and you know what, we still have our house, while several on our street went into foreclosure, in which, one was just foreclosed on in the last 60 days.

I don't need big brother to tell me what to do and though I'm a registered Democrat I guess you can say I'm a Republican at heart, so shoot me, oh wait that right was taken away! And if you think it's bad now just wait until they're drones flying around in your backyard, but you'll be allright with that because you'll be told it's for your own safety, remember the uproar there was over the wiring-tapping?

If the republican leadership is in as much denial as the righty posters are here, the GOP is in real trouble. I feel sorry for repub pols who want to be moderate, The crazy far right has them by the cajones and they can not show reasonalble behavior if the want to be re-elected.

Notice how the majority of voters are now called "uniformed voters" or "sheeple" by the rwnjs. They just can not bring themselves to admit their views are no longer mainstream.

@jeff-535466 You are all pretty much sheeple if you support either party. Try thinking with your god given brains. When I hear someone talk about main stream I have to laugh. At one time in history it was main stream to have black slaves. How smart was the main stream then? Just in case I will tell you that is stupidity at its worse. There are many examples of this in History of main stream thoughts that were absolutely stupid. Neither party can claim they have the corner on smarts. Whether it be Obama, Republicans or Democrats none of them have the best intentions for the country has a whole. If they did we would not be dealing with all the nonsense and stupidity like has been spewed out on this board by people that cannot think on their own without their party telling them what to think. Dibide and Conquer. Both parties seem to have that down pretty good. This board proves that.

                                                      The scare tactic is working.

Even if no agreement is reached by Friday, Joe Citizen will never know the difference.

The government and military is bloated & needs to be reduced.

Remember the last scare tactic a few years ago about the computer system in America; and every fool out there cleaned the store shelves of bottled water because the believed all the water treatment plants worldwide would shutdown at midnight.

KING fISH? you call us stupid while not getting the point. Lets for a moment say that you are right, and Obama is bad.

If that is the case, And people still voted for him, then what does that say about the Republican party?

This is the part that you and your party leaders cannot comprehend. you guys are sooooooo focused on what you think is wrong with Obama, that you cannot evaluate your own party, or your own being. Like the little kid who got caught stealing 5 cookies who sits there and cries, "but johnny took one too" as a justification, instead of taking responsibility for your wrong doing.

JK1963, Your buddy Bush had a popularity of road kill, and you still voted for him. Whats obama's number right now? Hint, it is still over 50%. Bush's highest rating was 49% in his first year and kept going down. in his last two years he was at a whopping 19%. The lowest for any American president EVER. When this sinks in, your party may be able to rebuild. SO shhhhhhhhhhh stay out of adult conversations.

I'm sick of both parties. This system is so broke I just ignore it, most of the time. It gives me heartburn to listen to this shyt, and I still can't get a job that isn't just shy of minimum wage even with a Masters Degree where I live.

pigface, one of the more fair-minded comments in a while. Yes,both parties have been playing everyone like a fiddle. The Dem minions seem a bit more vulnerable to the rhetoric. Many believe the GOP should just get out of the way so the Dems can do 'the country's business'. Another on a previous post quoted a 'well-respected economist' and, of course, it was in full support of the Dem plan which is mock and ridicule those who have different views and, yes, tax the wealthy more.....and this is the extent of the plan folks. Dem minions and their uneducatated selves believe this as if this is really the solution. What a bunch of nitwits.

I sincerely hope the cuts go into effect exactly as agreed by Congress (House and Sentate) and the WH. It will be amusing to observe the Dem department heads making cuts in a manner that will appear as severe as they can make it. And Dem minions will fall for it and mock and ridicule the GOP and give a complete pass to Dem nitiwts. You uneducated nitwits make it so easy for your party because you completely ignore their misteps. What a joke.

Charlie...I'm amazed at the time folks like you spend attempting to justify your rather hapless positions on almost every political issue known to a democrat. I trust the budget cuts will come about, and then we will see who is happy and who is not...I am an Independent, and financially "secure". And, in 2014, we will see how the same people will still not have health insurance, and still will be hollering for more assistance.

sequester does NOT mean CUT — it means SLOWED GROWTH IN SPENDING

that's not actually true. It actually reduces 2013 spending to be less than 2012 spending by roughly $5-10 billion, estimated of course (for example, if the sequester causes a double dip recession, as it could, tax revenue could go down and the budget deficit could actually INCREASE even in the face of somewhat marginal spending cuts). We won't know for sure until next October when FY2013 comes to an end.

Here, play around with the charts and #'s (this is a great source): http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/federal_spending_chart

How do you figure Obama can "lessen it's impact?" He can't unilaterally overturn the law, and the law demands uniform across the board spending cuts.

The logic that "well, Obama could direct the cuts away from the air traffic controllers as Mr. LaHood warned about and into something more palatable" is false. He cannot do that, every agency gets something like an 8.5-9.6% spending cut, and must devise a means to account for it.

In addition, how could Obama be "impeached" for this? You can't impeach a democratically elected President because he FOLLOWS the laws as written, at least last I checked...

As for the Poll, its pure Fiction.

yep, just like the ones that had Obama winning re-election handily, right? The GOP accused pollsters of oversampling Dems there too, and guess what. It turned out that right now in American politics, there actually ARE more democrats than Republicans in the country. Go figure, huh?

This is what the GOP reaps when it soiled it's brand for 8 years under the last administration...

And almost every item they reference, the liberals use fear mongering and emotion to gain public support. It's getting old and most don't believe it anyway. Obama is in constant campaign mode preaching his contempt for the GOP and attempting to scare those Kerry calls "stupid", which isn't very hard.

Has the liberal slanted media EVER asked why the President won't present a budget proposal and why he refuses to cut spending? Nah, don't think so. Funny, how he has not been held accountable for anything.

This is why the Romney internal polls (and others such as Fox news) were wrong. They claimed other polls were oversampling democrats, and then conducted polls that evenly sampled D's to R's, 50/50, and then saw that Romney was winning, and proclaimed as such on TV. What they neglected to understand, is that right now there ARE more democrats than republicans, any scientific poll will "oversample" D's specifically because there ARE more of them in the sample.

It's like when a poll of ethnicity is conducted, such as the 2010 census, and it's find that 63% of the population is white. Did that poll oversample white people? NO, the population IS 63% white!!

Has the liberal slanted media EVER asked ... why he refuses to cut spending?

Just an FYI, but the deficit has come down EVERY YEAR Obama has been in office. Some of this is due to increased tax revenue as the economy improved, some of it is due to slower growth in spending.

Having negative spending growth in the midst of a recession would be economic suicide.

Raising taxes, borrowing and continued spending out of control is not the way to run a government. If you don't think the constant liberal media not holding Obama accountable for one thing, and crucifying anyone that dares disagrees doesn't have an impact on the many, many, many uneducated, ignorant voters, then you're fooling yourself.

People actually believe Obama when he is on his constant campaign that the big bad GOP will take away SS, take away Medicaid, take away all of those wonderful tax payer funded entitlements. That is why they make promises, never fulfill them and those poor entitlement recipients never advance in life.

What is so wrong with this sequester?

Unemployment will almost assuredly go up, and GDP will shrink. Considering GPD shrunk last quarter by 0.1%, a 2nd quarter of such reduction would officially mean we're in a double-dip recession.

If you think raising taxes is bad to do whilst in a recession, just wait until you see what effect cutting spending is going to have (in fact, spending has already been cut, which is why unemployment has stagnated around 7.9% and why the GDP shrank in FY12Q4...).

                                                                    #2.34 - Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:31 PM EST

IMO they've always been destined for failure. Throughout history, organizations and entities that purposefully stand in the way of progress, willingly and enthusiastically promote selfishness, self-righteousness, greed, and contempt for others as "values", who have stood in the way of efforts to help their fellow man (in particular those less fortunate), and who have used their religious beliefs or personal value set as a "license of justification" for the promotion of bigotry, hatred, and intolerance have always found themselves at a disadvantage sooner or later. IMO that's because most of what I've just described is the very definition of evil.

The tax cuts of the conservatives in 2001,2002, and 2003 certainly produced great job increase, and economic gain didn't they? The period of 2001 to 2007 saw he slowest employment growth since the Great Depression and the total outsourcing of production employment of the United States. We need someone to use some common since and develop a program of spending cuts AND reasonable (everyone shares in the pain) tax increases. Again as President Lincoln said " A nation divided against itself cannot stand", true in his time, true today!

Pew did a poll recently where Americans were given a list of about 25 items, and asked whether they wanted them cut or increased - there was not ONE item they wanted cut. NOT ONE.

Ezra Klein reported on this last night when he guest-hosted The Last Word - he even interviewed one of the guys who started RedState . . . and, unlike you, the 2 of them had an intelligent & respectful discussion without yelling or calling each other names.

It’s time for this White House and this Congress to begin acting like adults, roll up their sleeves, and get to work. All Americans are simply sick and tired of this three-ring circus. You were all voted into office to do a job, now do it. Cut out the blame game and finger pointing. The American taxpayers are providing your salaries that range between $175K to $400K a year, plus perks, benefits, and retirement pay, depending on your job or position. It’s time to start producing results. You owe that to the American people and future generations. One last thing – stop blaming everyone else for our problems and I mean both sides of the aisle. If you don’t know how to compromise or lead, you’re in the wrong job, plain and simple. Either do your job or resign. The American people simply don’t have the time or patience to listen to anymore of your bickering or partisan agendas!

The reason our corporate tax rates are a little higher than some foreign countries is because our tax code is like a piece of Swiss cheese and so is the personal tax code, theirs isn't. You might actually be able to close these and lower your rate and still bring in larger revenues. Politicians love to sell this but never do it. Which is why upper tax rates had to expire at end of year, Boehner never had any intention of closing loopholes like he said

When you have 60% or more on an issue then you can say majority. I'm not happy with either party but they represent the people that elected them. Maybe we should split the country in to two with red and blue and see which one does better.

Mr. Cantor announced that the U.S. House of Rep. will work a sum total of 126 days for the entire year. So how much work given the issues in front of our nation does anyone believe this body of government will resolve? Consider POTUS remained in Washington and now has gone to the people with sleeves rolled up. Sorry, Republicans look very disingenuous.

People of all races, creeds and economic levels have children with cognitive issues whom you degrade by your use of insensitive terms. You probably think it is "liberal" to point out such a thing, but if not wanting people in power who degrade others is "liberal", then so be it. When your kind get into power they don't take long to escalate from speaking about others as if they were trash to treating others as if they are. Just sickening. Thank goodness you are not in control and that we have a public that is generally able to see the difference between making a point and making a foolish statement such as yours.

We aren't stupid, we know that cuts alone are not going to solve the problem and neither are revenue increases alone going to solve it. However, sensible cuts and sensible revenue increases can go a long way toward solving the deficit problem.

So if you are a person of principle, you don't get a "makeover" to be more popular. Maybe a few Republicans need to chnage a bit, but the party does not need a makoever. Just like the stock market, there are cycles in the political world."

I disagree in part Bill... Surely there have been cycles before, but those are mainly brought about by a combination of social circumstances AND changes in the general party alignments. This time a great sickness has tainted the republican party. It is now inflexible and the age-old theories of it's racist bent have bubbled out all over the place. It is truly damaged beyond the pale of any past era.

It has become an old and ugly thing now that the majority of America does not want to be around... The more it digs its feet in, the more tempting it is to just let go of the other end of the rope.

In my opinion, a MAJOR overhaul including all ties to the tea-party is required. ANd I'm not sure it isn't too late for even that.

Sheep. Obama is a failure and you are too stupid to admit it. For the boot licker liberals, he could eat a baby on live TV and it would be okay. He is STILL campaigning, out trying to scare the uninformed voters he always goes after- always.

Look at his "Welfare Reform" "Chrysler moving to China" "Obama stole from Medicare" "I will save Medicare" These were outright lies that he felt he could just repeat over over and he would be elected, America was much smarter than that. In the end Romney was seen for what he was. An angry old white man or Republican base voter.

About the 126 days in session, you do know that the House of Representatives includes both Democrats and Republicans, correct? I believe that we both can both agree that they should all be in DC much, much more. About the President staying in Washington, DC, of course he didn't leave town when Congress went on vacation. Who wants to vacation in Chicago in the winter time? He did manage to spend 3 days in Florida playing golf. And before you reach for your keyboard, I don't care how much golf or how many vacations he goes on. He deserves time off away from the White House.

Lastly, about the President going to the people on the road with his sleeves rolled up, this sequester situation is a good example. The President and the Congress have had since August 2011 to work this out. I really don't think traveling to Newport News today moved the discussion forward one bit which brings me back to my original post. It's time that this White House and this Congress start acting like mature adults, bury the partisan politics, and actually get some work done for all Americans.

The GOP will not get our entitlements, and if you really understood what the entitlements are, you would not have said what you said. By the way, if you work, you will also be entitled to entitlements. You pay into them, idiot, as do I, as does Feisty, as do millions of other Americans, both Dem and Republican. Stop with the stereotyping that Dems don't work and all we do is get hand outs. We all know that the red states are the biggest takers in the country, so STFU already.

Is any random poll of American voters really a valid sample when almost half don't pay federal income tax. Yeah, of course it will show that the majority want a balance approach--which by the way is not a valid question. Why? Because it doesn't even properly define 'Balanced and to too many (mostly democrat voters) 'balanced' to them means increasing taxes to those other than themselves and no cuts if it effects me in any way. DO you guys really read this stuff and base your views on it? Just shows you minions don't really know how to gather information and develop views on real facts and your own knowledge base which appears pretty thin.

That's unrealistic when the dollar is continually devalued. When you finally get to cash-in and receive your entitlement benefits, you will find changes. The actual trade-in value will be much less then your perceived value is. It will be the same for all of us. Your medicare benefits will still be there but you won't get nearly as much care. Your SS benefits will still be there but your benefit payments received will be much lower. That's what happens when we allow the President to direct the Feds to print so much faux money and maintain an increasing deficit, currently at over $16 trillion. You want more bang for your buck? Have the President and Congress cut spending so we operate with a balanced budget, eventually paying down debt and operating with "positive cash flow". Have him stop the feds from printing more faux money. Be prepared to tighten your belt for the next 15 - 20 years. Many of us won't live to see the end of this but we can contribute to the rebuilding. You can't rebuild when you have no money to rebuild with (just ask Greece). We've already borrowed much and spent foolishly. It really depends on how selfish you are going to be for future generations. You may not live as long or as well but you will have the satisfaction of knowing you positively contributed in getting the countries finances in order for future generations.

Nazi's weren't socialist, it was just part of the name, becuase in the 20s in Europe, socialism wasn't inititally a bad word. It was fascist. Totallly different animal. You are banking your vaunted view of history on ONE..simple..word. And you don't even have the ability to put it into the context that it is.

The left and Obama are doing their best to do this here. The Nazis had a slavish press which echoed all of Hitler's goals with nary a whimper. If it wasn't for the internet, AM radio and Fox News, we would be looking at the same thing here! The Nazis ginned up hatred for the Jews. The Jews were at fault for every negative which had happened in Germany for decades. The left creates hatred for the 1%ers who have done nothing but work hard and create jobs!

The Nazis nationalized their auto industry so that they could build up their military might. Obama the the left bailed out GM and Chrysler so that they would make the fantasy "green cars" that the left is so hot for! The Nazis had nationalized healthcare. Obamacare is well on the way to a "single payer" or government-style plan. The Nazis had their "Brownshirts" to bully and/or shout anyone down if they did not believe in the Nazi vision. Obama and the left has the Occupiers and other groups like Code Pink to bully and/or shout down conservative who do not share Obama's "vision"!

I could go on all day comparing the Nazis and our current political "taste of the day"! The Nazis also ripped up all laws which were not convenient to their visions. Obama has just printed out "Presidential Edicts" whenever he couldn't get what he wanted.

Let me just remind you of a few of the other wonderful "Socialist Paradises" which have been created in this world in the last century! How about the USSR and their slaughter of millions of their own people who were not "convenient" to their socialist revolution? Mao's China and even more millions slaughtered. How about Castro and the many political prisons he created! Wow, I guess socialism is just so gentle and kind..... Like a pack of rabid pitbulls!

                                                                                • 1 vote

                                                                                1. The Nazi party pushed through gun control laws. Wrong. They stregnethed gun control for non party members, while loosening them for Nazi party members, even encouraging them through party gun clubs!

                                                                                2. The Nazis had a slavish press. Wrong, they actually DIRECTLY controlled the Media and outlawd those that opposed their view point. Have you seen any outlawing of AM or Fox news?

                                                                                3. The Nazi's Nationalized Health care. Wrong, German Health care was nationalized in 1871 under Bismark. You know who also had socialized health care? Britain, and they were are bravest and stuanchest allies.

                                                                                4. The Nazi's Nationalized their auto industry. Wrong again. They worked closely with the industry, but left it in private ownership. The only thing nationlized post WW1 in Germany was the railways. BMW and Daimler-Bez all reported high profits during that time period, as did Audi.

Brownshirts were violent thugs that attacked people at polling places and broke up political meetings through violence. No one in current american politics even comes close

Almost no industries were nationalized by the Nazi party in Germany. Next time, do some ACTUAL research on the subject.

PS. If you cannot differentiate between Nazi Germany, Stalinist USSR and Maoist China as political systerms (and our own American Democratic Republic) I seriously am scared you have the ability to vote..maybe even drive a car.

Further, did you ever read "Rules for Radicals"??? do you even know what Alinsky meant by "radicals"??? not what you think. Alinsky was an advocate of non-violence.

Finally, even hyper-conservative William F. Buckley said Alinsky was "very close to being an organizational genius."

Their talk has grown more and more tiresome and people are listening and wondering what the heck they are trying to accomplish. At first we knew their main goal last election cycle was to make Obama a one term president. When your goals have no true value other than spite and to gain political power, you lose all credibility.

If Boehner's Sequester comes to be 2014 will be the GOP end. Watch Boehner as the midnight hour gets close. If he and his bunch start showing their faces more often than not than rest assured they're more than worried. He designed the "Sequester," in his Powerpoint presentation to the GOP House members. He and the Republicans own the consequences what ever they might be. When people feel the pain from those cuts they will let elected representatives know where they stand.

This whole chain of comments is unwholesomely racist. But I think it's typical of why meaningful political discourse is so difficult in this country. Unless we all tone it down, and listen to each other respectfully, we cannot hear one another.

Politics is the art of the possible, and all political possibilities involve compromise, some a little, some a lot, but if we keep electing representatives to whom the word "compromise" is the dirtiest word of them all, we will see no progress.

It might have been possible in, say, the 11th century to be so self-indulgent and care-less of political consequences, but in today's fast-paced, highly-interconnected world, it's downright dangerous. It's seen by or enemies as an opportunityto attack us, and they WILL take advantage of it.

I advise all of you to take a deep breath and tone it down. Learn to live with the fact that people have different opinions, but that doesn't mean they are always evil. Getting along means concentrating on the important things, learning to give a little, and presenting a united face to the rest of the world.

                                                                                      • 6 votes

Why can't Obama come up with those "smart" spending cuts he likes to boast about. Instead, he's off on yet another campaign trail whining about the House. Seems to me if this means anything important to him, he might just want to hang around DC and be a uniter instead of a divider.

By the time this guy is done the debt will top 22 trillion and he will have run up more debt than ALL the rest of the presidents COMBINED!! So OH YEAH...lets follow Obama...he has a plan. He has a plan all right....to turn America into a third world country. And the scarey part is that it's working and everyone seems to think he is doing such a great job.

Puting thing son the credit card for someone else to pay is really not the right way to do things but G Walker Bush seemed to think so. In a poll taken of political experts from across the country G Walker Bush is among the worst POTUS and Obama is around the middle. But those experts wouldn't know would they?

The GOP really lost their own platform of smaller government through the policies they pursued through the Bush era--which was bigger government AND tax cuts. No wonder we are broke.

To regain the high ground, Republicans needs to be consistent in favor of smaller government. What we need is smaller government (especially much smaller defense spending) AND selective tax increases. The corporate tax should come down though, it makes our country less competitive.

The entire Democratic Party is out of touch. And actually, "STUPID" fits pretty well, as most constituents are exactly that.

Why won't our President submit a budget? Why won't he agree to put his no limit credit card in his top drawer for a while and look for programs to trim; not necessarily cut. Just cleaning up the fraud and waste in the entitlement programs will amount to more than this total budget cut alone. He just keeps campaigning preaching his fear mongering to the "stupid" people of this country and they believe him. They still believe him after 4 years of nothing.

Somewhat of an odd perspective I have; but if he were white, his own party would have been looking to replace him before the last election. It's almost as if they feel they have a need to protect him because, God forbid people start with calling a black man a failure. He's just as much white as he is black and is a huge failure. But he must be held accountable at some point, regardless of race.

I love how so many teahadists have tantrums over the second amendment but actively participate in trampling on most of the other constitutional rights, including the right to vote

At least, and in particular the threat of massive homicide posted in #20.1, "coyote" and "unoitall" make no bones about being the nasty, terrorist filth that they are. It is people like "ban guns" that hide underneath the white hoods, like cowards, and lie about what moral creatures they are.

Keep posting the true, America-hating sentiments of the "tea" party, you three. Not only do you prove what the rest of us have known, but you also prove that guns really should be taken out of the hands of sociopaths like yourselves.

(I do hope that "unoitall" is being investigated, along with all terrorist organizations he/she belongs to)

I will admit that there are those that go over the top on here but I can tell you that I am for women and I am not a racist by any stretch of the imagination. The Republicans have had their low points but haven't both parties had their low points in their course? The Democrats aren't exactly doing the best of jobs either. They both are playing the blame game and having a p!ssing contest and we are the ones that take the brunt of their incompetence. Oh and for the record, the Republicans are NOT against women nor racists. Stop believing the Democrat's every word. Both parties lie. It is up to you to use a little intelligence to dig through the crap.....

Four years and they haven't anything to their name. They even try and take credit for the Bin Laden killing. Most of the research came from when President Bush was in power. It was still Republican Seals that took Laden out ha ha......

That guy? Yeah, okay, whatever helps you through it. Republican Seals? Got the proof to back up that ridiculous statement? I mean all the proof, not just one of them that wrote a book.

In fact, Reagan ruled the White House for the ENTIRE decade. And then President George H.W. Bush held the White House for another 4 years. So, the Republicans won 3 elections in a row. Then after Clinton held the White House for 8 years, George W Bush held it for the Republicans for another 8 years. Prior to President Obama, the Republicans held the Presidency for 20 out of the past 28 years.

Was anyone crying that the Democratic party was finished during this time? Was anyone talking about this fundamental change that had occured? No, because politics and the Nation's persuasion ebbs and flows. So why now, when President Obama has won reelection by a pretty slim popular vote, is there all this talk of a "mandate" and the decline of the Republican party? Weird.

                                                                                                    • 5 votes

Nowaday, the whackjobs that have infected the GOP have TOTALLY gone over the edge. Hell, Reagan wouldn't even get the nomination nowadays and wouldn't stand a chance with the nutcases of the GOTP. This is exacly how sick the party really is.

Where are the brains you ask? The Republicans are sitting on theirs.

Sitting on theirs? Kidding, right? Only if the ReThugliCONs have brains to sit on. But I am sure you meant criticism of the GOP - so you still deserve credit.

The... er .... Madam calling herself a "feisty" redhead compliments herself. Now... I am a genuine redhead, born that way, and feisty I am not, thank goodness.

I prefer to being a Thinking Redhead, able to research other's opinions accurately as well as my own. I respect differing opinions from mine from sincere people. I appreciate being able to mention my own without resorting to offence against opponent comments here.

Not sure I can be that good with folks inviting or subjected to popularity especially in politics. Oh, well... no one is perfect not the feisty one nor me.

                                                                                                    Too bad, so sad.

You notice that some on these posts sort of "hit and run" with arguments...when they run out of arguments they become vulgar, and when they run out of vulgarity they quit. And they usually try to be "first", and then fade into the sunset.
