President Obama travels to the shipbuilding community of Newport News, VA to warn of sequester cuts, Senators Lindsay Graham and John McCain head to the White House to discuss immigration, and voters head to the polls in Illinois to fill the vacant seat left by disgraced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. NBC's Domenico Montanaro reports.

Maybe the President should just park Air Force One and stop all these expensive "campaign" trips around the country. Maybe the President should drive over to the Congressional Building and talk to those that can actually do something about the financial problems we are facing.
Obama is doing nothing except spreading "fear and gloom" and claiming only HE can save the country. The Democrats are so brain dead that they are willing to carry the Presidents BS bucket, no matter what it contains.
All President Obama knows is TAX & SPEND. Think of how many times he used the term "investment" in the SOTUS, which means more spending. We should all be happy that the Republicans in the House have stopped a majority of the Presidents spending requests.
It is time for Washington to get it's house in order and quit pandering to their bases or playing to the cameras.
It's amazing how the liberals suck up every word Obama speaks as if it's the truth. All these lies go unnoticed by liberals. The government will be spending $15 Billion more this year with the sequestration cuts.. and if anyone hasn't noticed, the money spent for Sandy was close to $50 billion... and liberals whine and thrash around on the ground because they are brainwashed into believing the Republicans are the cause of every known disaster since the beginning of time.
Here's one for you... liberals... what if nothing comes of the sequestration cuts? What if nothing happens at all. All this bull crap spewing from Obama's mouth will still mean nothing to you? You will still crawl up on your hands and knees and give him your worship? What will it take for you to see him for what he is... nothing but a complete and total liar?
Look! At the top of the page! A pair of queens. Drama Queen and Closet Queen!
Ricardo98, I wasn't sure if you were referring to sfcret and edgarw or McCain and Graham.
What I find amazing is how little the republicans know about anything. They listen to these right wing talking heads that know nothing but hate.
Oh well, that is why it they will not win the White House.
Stop with the nonsense. President Obama is countering all the rhetoric and bs that is coming from the other side and their surrogates. He has met several times with leaders in Congress (both houses). His job is to execute laws not make them. Congress has to make the laws, which with all the vacation time they take, isn't happening.
Frankly, I am glad to see him finally use the "bully pulpit" so people are informed of the truth rather than he remain silent so people only hear the radio hate mongers and people in Congress whose agenda is to bring this country to its knees.
It is difficult to see posts like the first two and realize that these people actually believe the tripe they toss around. Their understanding of economics comes from watching talking heads at Fox. Their budget expertise comes from their houshold finances. They can't seem to understand that Social Security is not a welfare program. They apparently believe that Health Insurance providers are trustworthy and that the measure of economic success is how much money Wall Street and the Big Banks can steal from investors and depositors.
Damn straight Adler!
I'd leave Washington too, if I had to listen to Congressional Republicans and their inane demagoguery.
hey, look, I can spell demagoguery. I learned that from when I used to post comments during Sarah Palin's campaign! Also came in handy during the Republican presidential primary applied to Donald Trump, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann, et al.
Too bad the President has to return to meet with McCain and Graham. He should get a bonus for that!
Hang on to the "demagoguery" spell check, Amy---CPAC is coming up next month.
Yeah, we can see you hate Republicans Amy... what of it? Do you also hate dogs and cats? I mean since you allow the seeds of hatred to develop within you, where does that hatred stop? The sad thing is, you hate without knowing why you hate... you hate because you have been brainwashed into that hatred. You don't think for yourself... you think because you belong to the democrat/liberal collective... and are completely unwilling to step outside of the boundary's of narrow-minded thinking. Congrats on having a closed mind unwilling to accept anything other than what you have been told by liberals.
I'm 54 years old. I grew up during the Nixon administrations. I lived through two terms of George W Bush/Dick Cheney. I've watched Republicans attack President Obama. I know why I hate Republicans.
edgar---I have no better opinion of Republicans than Amy and I used to be one. I guess I have an open mind because I examined the way the party treated people and its positions on issues that are important to me and I chose to leave it.
Steeler Fan, it is good that you came into the light from the dark side. The Republican party that you knew as a kid is dead and buried. The current Republican party is controlled by a very extremist bunch of right wing extremist Fascist wannabes and until the main stream Republicans either take back their party or let it go deeper into the firy pit of hell I suspect not much is going to be done in Washington unless it is done by Democrats and independants, many who were once Republicans.
In the history of this country the Conservative parties have either had to change or die. The Federalists were replaced by a more liberal, but still right of center, Whig party which was, in turn, replaced by a more liberal Republican party. The Democratic party was, in the past, more conservative than the Republicans but they reformed and are moving into the 21st Century while the Republicans in control of their party seem to want to go backwards or remain stagnat at best. It is too bad because there are some very important issues that need to be addressed and due to their stubbornness aren't getting done.
By putting pressure on Congress, both parties, (tell friends, neighbors, relatives...everyone) to email, write, telephone Congress critters and tell them to stop the nonsense and get the work of the people done. Stop listening to special interests and do what is best for the majority of people. Threaten to vote for someone other than them or their party, if necessary, to get them to pay attention.
So after all the sound and fury, Hagel will be confirmed with a whimper.
One can understand the opposition's uh, opposition to the President's thus far very successful public relations tour in support of his agenda. One remembers the last President, who after his reelection stated that he had "Political Capital" tried to promote his agenda (Privatizing part of Social Security) , using the same plane to fly him at the taxpayers expense to various "Town halls", but with less than successful results.
The reality that sequestration is almost certain to take effect means that there will be, politically speaking, winners and losers. The President has done a pretty good job of ensuring that he and his party will come through this period with fewer bruises than the Republicans, and are perceived as being both more reasonable and open to compromise, and more in tune with the electorate as a whole...
So Obama goes on a hate and discontent tour, when he could use the time to work on an actual budget, or look real hard at where better cuts should be made, or ask Harry Ried to allow a vote on the two bills the house passed to end sequester. Anything but do the job. This is the best he can do? Demand more of our money and demand more debt? It is commen sense that we stop spending what we don't have and stop taking money from people who worked for it. They have all given enough if it had been used correctly.
If you're so Sane, why is it that YOU don't know that those 2 Bills died when the New Congress was sworn In?
To date, this new House Has NOT passed Anything, Nada, Zilch!
You Betcha!
Occupy SoggyBottom!
It's very clear from last week's events that McCain does NOT speak for his party, not even Republicans in his own state will back any sort of immigration "reform" until there is effective border control. Although it's extremely difficult to keep track of McCain's shifting positions on this issue, I believe I agree with the 2010 version of McCain when he said "just build the #%#@$@ fence!" Then we can look at the other "reform" measures.
McCan't and his butt buddy Lindsey Luscious Graham Cracker, two of the thickest theives in the pod! LOL!!!
We are so lucky to have this wonderful President!
Hey everyone, congress finally did something!!! Hagel was confirmed after they were against him.
Who will win the Jackson Jr. seat??? How bout Senior Jr.???
