The Senate Finance Committee voted 19-5 on Tuesday to report Jack Lew's nomination as Treasury Secretary to the full Senate.
Lew's nomination moved a step closer to final confirmation before the full Senate with the finance panel's approval, though a floor vote isn't scheduled yet.
Recommended: Increasing polarization in Washington
Five Republicans joined with all of the committee's Democrats in supporting Lew. Five Republicans opposed Lew.
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, voted yes, but criticized the administration for being reluctant to answer questions about nominees. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, voted no, citing concerns about Lew's ties to Citigroup, which received federal bailout money.

So who will step forward to filibuster Lew nomination over Benghazi?
"Whatever it takes to get in front of the camera" so sais McCain. He is no fiscal hawk. He doesn't care that this will cost taxpayers millions extra. He needs nut jobs in Arizona to vote for him for senator if he runs again so. . . . anything to get in front of a camera. What louse!
Lew knows all the ins and outs, that works for me — just saying !!!

The two village idiots: McCain and Graham.
The creator of Sequestration now is Chief of the Treasury. Only in Obamaland.
Bingo Red... this is the moron that came up with Sequestration as a tool to compromise on budget cuts.
Now he will run the Treasury?! Great. Another politician doing the job of an economist.
You realize that this is the equivalent of going for surgery and finding out your surgeon is Harry Reid because Obama appointed him chief surgeon.
What happened to the good old days when people had to be qualified to hold a position???
redvirginia
Paul Ryan's been a fan of the Sequester since 2004. He’s pushed sequestration as the solution, as good governance, since 2004. When he finally got it in 2011, he bragged about it to Fox News
...and the Republicans chose him to be the VP of the United States of America (not just some Treasury as you pointed out)...only in the RepuliCONland
HYPOCRITES!
@djo_34
"What happened to the good old days when people had to be qualified to hold a position???"
Sorry to say, but W changed all that. Can you say Brownie?

@DJO: What happened to the good old days when people had to be qualified to hold a position???
Well, where was you with that question when a certain horse judge was appointed to be head of FEMA. Ask the people of NOLA how that turned out.
So if you didn't complain back then, why are you complaining now? Care to answer that?
That's rich, a Republican concerned with a nominee's connections in the private sector. Didn't they just run a presidential candidate on the basis of his experience buying and selling companies?
Then you should welcome the change. Or should I say -- That's rich a Democrat who supports connections with banks and Wall Street.
It has been hilarious watching liberals support Jack Lew after their vitriol against Romney.
Lew ran the Citigroup investment branch in charge of mortgage based securities before the crisis.
Lew received a million dollar bonus the year he left Citigroup to go back to Obama's administration.
Lew was the originator of loan company kickbacks for New York University, with NYU receiving 0.5% of every loan it directed to Citigroup. A kickback scheme so bad, the NYU president nullified it the year after Lew left NYU.
Lew earned more than the NYU President when he was the operator of financing at NYU.
Lew is a dirty and corrupt wallstreet banker, yet you support him blindly. How hilarious it is to watch the intellectual dishonesty of the left.
Let's strap in, check the controls, pull our visors down and prepare for another day of mutant hogswallow from the irrepressible self-offending subjugants... Oh look! Bennie already has an excuse for the morbid o'grease-ity of his party!! We're supposed to appreciate the instantaneous individualistic bizarro-world flip-flop-faux reversal of opinions according to the breeze... Whenever a select few (or even just one) express an opposite opinion to what they themselves represent for momentary posturing purposes.
Amy had it right... A republican expressing concern over private sector connections... Ludicrous. And anybody that buys or sells it? Ludicrous.
Banks on the Cayman Islands thank the Republicans for supporting the U.S. Loopholes for the 1% !!!
As are the democrips. there skippy, I balanced it for ya
as does lew who also had money in the caymans -- so lew is not only a 1%er but does everything he can to stay that way. why nyu figured he deserved that huge bonus for leaving their institution (maybe that was the reason?) we will probably never know.
Mr. Lew, can we see your tax returns for the last 10 years? Not the ones where you claim $1500 in yearly payroll.(sarcasm off)
Amy B. Portland, ME
If Jesus was alive today and nominated by Obama to be the Secretary of Anything, he would, too, be rejected by these clowns. He would be considered a dirty liberal...
ZappasUtopia - since Romney didn't even give us 2 full years of his returns, you have a lot of nerve asking ANYONE to show 10 years of theirs. NO WAY!
Yup, you did indeed miss my sarcasm and read what you wanted. I couldn't be more proud
@ZappasUtopis, and where is Mitt's birth certificate and adoption papers? Obama showed his, but Mitt didn't? Sorry, you got no leg to stand on and you being proud of what, your low informed outlook? WOW!
"R-Iowa, voted no, citing concerns about Lew's ties to Citigroup, which received federal bailout money"

I love the "concerns" line. Nice, robust details there Sen Grassley. It's encouraging to know that you and 4 other 'no' Republicans have such keen insight that the 5 'yes' Republicans clearly did not.
Looks like Cayman Island Jack will be the next Treasury Secretary. At least he knows where all the people in government hide their money.
I guess he's as good as Little Timmy....the tax cheat...couldn't even use turbo tax....lol...what get's me is all you liberal hipocrites....that went after Romney for having investments in the Cayman Islands....what a freaking joke you people are....Lew will do whatever King Obama tells him to do....so..what does it matter......
dixie girl - you embarrass all females from the south. YOU are the joke and your post shows it.
We don't have a KING in the US. The only people who refer to our President as King or Messiah are the totally ignorant far righters like you!
There is a major difference between having $58,000 in a CitiGroup employee fund that was based in the Cayman Islands (Lew) and owning your own Cayman Island investment company worth millions of dollars (Romney).
If you can't see the difference you aren't looking very hard.
tnsevol
There are no democrats who have money stashed away in the Caymans? That just couldn't happen anywhere.
Double Post
It is interesting that while all the attention has gone to the nomination of Hagel very little has gone into the nomination of Lew. It is as if some nominations become a public distraction, with all kinds of well constructed drama, while some just slip through the radar screen. And it is always the Wall Street guys or Wall Street connections. Am I right or am I right? :))
Whenever I see a sudden media frenzy about something I always ask: what are they not covering and what are they covering up for? 90% of the time my doubts, question, concerns, worries and analyses are right! There is something that always slips through when everyone else is looking elsewhere.
InterestingO!
Since Lew is Jew, I do not see any problem in confirmation..
Maybe just some pep talk for show off ... but, thats it.
I am a democrat, but I did not like when Tim became the tresury secretary. because one of his filings audited and he had to pay penalty to IRS...That did not look good at all.
But, I learned to live with it, because I thought its a tradition Treasury Secretary must be jew, as well as federal resrve...
I am not sure what to think...
You want to fix America? Here is a VERY simple way. (I am a Republican btw)
If it's not made in America, it's not sold in America. I know there are all kinds of holes that people will want to poke in this but it would fix our internal problems.
Immigration: Every illegal alien that is in the Country... "Read this paragraph in English"... "Welcome to America, here's your Id" that way they can pay taxes too... and I don't have to learn (any more) Spanish. Plus authentic Mexican food is the shi...
Military Spending: Personally I like knowing that if you mess with us we will Kill you. That being said, talk to anyone at any level of the military and they will tell you of spacific cuts that could be made. I would like to see some of the money saved be used for Veterans and their families.
Oil Subsidies: Seriously?? Cut them all. Oil companies make enough.
Just a few ideas.
Of course I'm probably stupid and wrong.
Roach. BTW Dem here. Sounds like we're in lockstep. First thing they could cut is my brother's job with the Navy. He retired from the Navy, can and will draw SS in Dec.; will also retire as civilian from Navy. All told, will make more than $55k when retires at 62. Somethings wrong with that picture.
Well if Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has never seen anything like this in 20 years of public service (whatever that means) she better get used to. We are going broke and if she thinks its bad now just wait a few more years and she will she what bad is! The golden goose cannot support all this excessive spending.

The sequester was really a brilliant move. And all of those smart (so called) GOP politicians, one who bragged they got 98% of what they wanted, passed the bill. The bill landed on Obama's desk and was instantly signed, and then the POTUS started laughing and laughing.
I'm sure Obama is proud of it, as it plainly shows the American people just how freaking dumb the elected GOP people are, and how low informed their base is.
They are in a corner, and really no way out. Like drowning rats, climbing on top of each other, biting and snarling, and it's not going to help them. They will have to do things they don't want to do, but have no choice in doing it.
And the payback time will be at the next election, and the GOP is aware of that. The D's will remind the American people just who DID THE CUTS. Talk about a blood bath at the polls in 2014. Scream and wail all you want to base haters, your elected GOPer's set themself's up, and you along with them. PASS THE POPCORN, IT'S GOING TO BE FUN watching this.
