Sen. Marco Rubio really wants nothing to do with President Barack Obama's immigration backup plan.
Rubio's office on Tuesday released a statement insisting that the plan the Florida Republican is working on has "major differences" from the White House blueprint that was leaked to USA Today over the weekend. Spokesman Alex Conant pointed to a number of measures they say are missing from the White House plan: tying the a path to citizenship to border security, a new visa exit system and a plan to deal with future immigrants.
And Conant said no one in Rubio's office has met with the White House to talk immigration.
White House spokesman Jay Carney addresses whether the release of a draft immigration bill was done on purpose.
"President Obama and the White House staff are not working with Republicans on immigration reform. Senator Rubio’s office has never discussed immigration policy with anyone in the White House," Conant said.
On Tuesday, the White House insisted it was in fact working with lawmakers on the issue. Obama has said he wants the Senate to write a bipartisan immigration proposal, but that he'll release his own plan if that process drags.
"We have been in contact with everyone involved in this effort on Capitol Hill," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.
Asked to clarify, Rubio's spokesman said the administration had sent agency officials to brief Senate staffers for the bipartisan group of eight senators who are working on immigration reform -- but insisted policy was not discussed.

"They've never asked for our input. (And, frankly, we've never asked for theirs.)," Conant wrote in an email.
Senior administration officials said that staffers from the White House had attended at least 5 briefings with congressional staffers working on bipartisan reform. At different points, officials from relevant government agencies also briefed the staff group.
Some Republicans have suggested the White House's separate plan could help GOP supporters distance themselves from the president and highlight the compromises in a Senate plan. Rubio's office rejected that analysis.
"The White House has injected additional partisanship into an already difficult process, and raised fresh questions about the president’s seriousness about passing reform," Conant said.

Rubio's whole political career has been kissing up to rich people. If he's the future of the Republican party then it's safe to say the Republican party has no future. America was a great place before the Republicans screwed everything up for the last twelve years. It's been the angry parent style of government while they steal people's pensions, their social security, their life savings, and even their HOMES.
Yea ,they all were in on that both Parties!
Later
Rubio will not save the gop
Oh no! Marco Rubio doesn't agree with the president. That's horrible!
Everybody wants to come here to the U.S, and everyone also wants to go to Disneyland. The smart one has walls and you have to pay to get in!. The smart one also knows that they can only hold the amount of People the Law allows, to take of there needs! Our Country is catering Illegals and not it's own People. We need to do all we can for our own first, the Old, the Handicap, the War Vet's etc. Obama and Co.need to wake up and take care of our People!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess who the smart one is? They also make Money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here we go again. The GOP likes to lump people into groups, so they can poision the water in the well. Mr. Rubio, whoever you care to pander to, see right thru you. You come around a day late and a dollar short on talking to their problems. People want results not a pretty face. Not that you are pretty but you do look better than Mr. Turtle.
didn't Rubio "mis-use" public funds along with his buddy Rivera, for his own personal use? and they just looked the other way.
Proof please. Just because your propaganda sources say it, doesn't make it so.
This reform of immigration needs to address the loopholes that have been exploited for years. My fear is that after all is said and done this will be anything but a paper tiger and Obama has no intention of curbing future illegal immigration. We do not need miles and miles of fences when we can take away the magnet that draws illegals here.
If illegal immigrants know that they will not find jobs or housing they will not come. We need to work on removing the magnet that draws them here and sustains them. Employers and landlords need to have draconian disincentives hanging over their heads. We need ICE and local law enforcement working together to investigate suspected illegal immigrant hiring and lodging but we need a functional E-Verify system that all employers and landlords need to check.
The 14th amendment needs to be withdrawn as it has, is and will be abused to gain the illegal toe hold for rresidency in the United States by illegal immigrant hoards of the future.
If neither side talks to each other, then nothing will get done. Either Rubio or the White House has to make a move. Communication is the key to making a deal. DUH. Businesses have meetings, make budgets, create plans & iron out projects. Why can't these guys? Do we need to draw them a diagram like a flow chart on how to solve a problem? Neither side can get to step 1, which is talk about the damn thing.
If they ever get to step 1, they'll probably be unable to have a constructive conversation about this issue because they're political enemies. Most politicians are not interested in solving problems, only getting what they want for their party & supporters.
Rubiio's "The White House won't play nice with Republicans" statement is typical GOP blather. Hey Rubio, go do another bit for the bottled water industry!
But it is okay for Obama to say that? Really?
I guess the big difference Drew is that Obama "not playing nice" doesn't even pass the laugh test in reality, and the knotheads that state this garbage don't have one thing they can point to aas evidence. But we, on the other hand, have a record number of filibusters and a first time in US History holdup of a DOD nominee to prove the GOP doesn't play nice. We have Republicans changing votes on issues they used to support because Obama now supports them....the list goes on and on.
In short....Rubio is full of **** and so are any of the GOPers that support his nonsense.
Rubio’s a figure head Mr. reduce Government (he’s getting paid rather well by the Govt> check out this article about his finances (Minoritie Report ) the GOP hasn't been remotely concerned about the well-being of the Latinos until President Obama’s successful re-election; the overwhelming recipient of the Latino’s vote, not to mention the consensus report which states the Latinos will be the primary ethnicity in 2050. Republican’s just can’t get with the times to many old heads with old racist ideas.
Exactly.. I don't think I could have said it better
If Republicans are seen as putting up artificial barriers to an amnesty bill they ostensibly support, they will continue to loose elections.
They don't seem to understand that saying all the right words without backing them up with policy won't change their standing in the Latino community.
From his rebuttal speech last week it was obvious Rubio did not write the speech. It was just the same old boilerplate Republican talking points. And he was terrible. I have seen high schoolers give better speeches. He was sweating and thirsty and nervous. He is not ready for prime time. An immigration bill will eventually get passed but the republican's will get beat up and all credit will go to President Obama. Rubio wants some credit but the Hispanic voters already have him pegged as a loser.
I think from your responses that you both agree Marco Polo Rubio is not ready for prime time.
Lobotomy ala OBAMACARE...
Secure the border, and let's see some vigorous enforcement of the laws against employers who hire illegal aliens first!
These have been promised by those in office for the last "7 Amnesties".
Time for them to keep their word first!
