The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza and NBC's Chuck Todd talk about the key proposals from Tuesday's speech and the president's trip to North Carolina on Wednesday.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Road-testing his State of the Union message for the first time since his speech last night, President Obama visited a factory here in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains that he said exemplified his second-term vision for manufacturing growth.
Obama emphasized his plans for increased collaboration between federal, state, and local governments to create good conditions for manufacturing, citing Canadian-owned Linamar’s arrival in the Asheville area in 2011 as an example.
“There's a good story to tell here,” Obama said, speaking to a factory floor full of plant workers after touring the auto-parts facility.
State and local officials offered Linamar about $18 million in incentives to move to the plant to Asheville in 2011, after it was vacated by the automaker Volvo, which caused 228 workers to lose their jobs.
The county had purchased the plant for $7 million, according to local reports at the time, which also noted that Linamar had pledged 363 jobs. So far, it has hired 160 workers and, as the president noted, plans to add another 40 by the end of the year.

President Barack Obama speaks to workers and guests at the Linamar Corporation plant in Arden, N.C., Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013.
Obama said the success of Linamar can be mirrored around the country if the plans he laid out in his State of the Union are implemented -- including funding for “innovation centers” around the country and comprehensive corporate tax reform, which includes disincentives for outsourcing and the elimination of some corporate loopholes.
And as the president said in his speech last night, he wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $9.00 per hour by 2015.
(That's lower than the $9.50 he called for on the campaign trail in 2008, but his advisers say it's still a sizeable boost, given the new tax credits low-income families have available to them like the child tax credit, as well as the implementation of the president’s health care plan.)
“It’s time for an increase in the minimum wage because if you work full-time, you shouldn’t be in poverty,” Obama said during his speech today.
The president also urged Congress to vote on his initiatives that need its approval -- including the 15 innovation centers he wants –- but he was less aggressive than he was in the House chamber Tuesday night, saying only, “I need Congress to do their part.”
Obama will continue his traditional post-State of the Union roadshow to Decatur, Ga., on Thursday and then Chicago on Friday.

I'm so glad, the President is taking his message to the streets!
Welcome back to sweet home Chicago on Friday!
Meanwhile back in DC, McConnell and his cronies are hosting a sour grape stomping contest at 3 pm est in the capital rotunda!
Marco Rubio will be their "water boy"!
Thank you so much Mr. President for doing the wise and right thing for all Americans.
US can lead in high end manufacturing that is tech intensive. Germany has done well in this. I think we Americans can do too.
Feisty, are we going to do anything Friday like you, Clara, and I did the last time the President was here?
Marco Rubio will be their "water boy"!
You are a bigot.
Sour Grape party, before they head out the door on another vacation:
Grapes?...Cue the Weeper.....maybe he's still fermenting somewhere. Maybe that's why he couldn't stand up last evening.......afraid of falling over!...more likely, just disrespect, blind hatred!

Take it up with those bigots at the New Yorker ... Gawd man, lighten up.

Marco Rubio will be their "water boy"!
You are a bigot.

WCA: Don't you know that when liberals are bigots, it's OK??
It's only wrong if they think a coservative is a bigot
It's good to see the President coming home this week. It will be good for the city to have him take a stand against the violence here and promote his bills.
We are so fortunate to have him leading the country instead of the Mitt that ran against him.
Nah BCWC, don't think I will.
I have read for 4 years here , the left calling anyone who referred to Obama, in any way, shape or form, a "boy" a bigot.
The Old Gal is the biggest racist on this site, yet gets a free pass from her minions, of which you are one.
And you're a ankle humper, twinkle-toes!
Put your lipstick back in it's case, you're staining my socks! ;o)
Have I told you lately how much I enjoy watching you wallow in misery, it only intensifies each day?
Of course not!
Gawd forbid he should learn something!
*QUICK* - play the victim for us again, it never grows old! LMAO@U
Nice attempt at humor with the water reference (Rubio taking the water during his rebuttal) but unless someone finds that amusing like many of us do it can be considered "racist" or some other thing they may try and blame on you. The trolls seem to be resting, stunned or haven't come out of their holes yet, today but they'll be here so be careful what you write.
Feisty - WCA isn't worth the effort. Has he ever written anything that isn't filled with ignorance and hatred???
water boy : one who keeps a group (as of football players) supplied with drinking water.
shall we try bat boy .... oh those racist ball players
choir boy .... oh the wee perverts
stare into the abyss and yikes it stares right back at you.
Hey WCA, its because Tio Tomas Rubio isnt token wetback enough for them... Dumfux liberals... loser hypocrites the lot of you che/Obama worshipping clowns.
See the uber left believes Rubio is a dirty cuban (wetback right Feisty?) and ergo irrelevant on the political stage. you lefties talk shlt all day long as if you have a pair or the spine to match your nonsensical rhetoric
hows it go? Touche' HAHAHAHAHA
Seeking,
Captain cupholder is my #1
FanStalker... lolAll I have to do is pull out my WCA dog whistle and he comes running!
You can lead these dumbfux to water (pun intended) but you can't make them
drinkthink! ;o)Bout time they pulled up their big boy panties!
Nothing wrong with Rubio's thirst. When one's trying to fit a nut to a bolt with ones tongue one needs lubrication. Didn't help poor Rubio though. Nut was too small for the bolt. Usually that's the other way around. Meantime, Mitch McConnell stepped on His lower lip again this morning.
with the exception he types you comment....DOH...FACE PALM IDIOT
you would know you can smell your own
Looks like I struck a nerve.
Again.
Hate having to hold up that mirror, eh Hypocrites?
Keep it up Cat. You have the Old Gal quoting you now.
You're in.
From Seeking Approval, of all people:
Has he ever written anything that isn't filled with ignorance and hatred???
Now that's funny.
so the Canadian Pederast is running at the cockholster again? let the klondike cat go chase Savoir Faire for a while.
Cūlus Granitus Fatuous
Aw, did all your Numids run off to play with someone a touch less tyrannical?
"Water boy" is defined in the dictionary as "one who keeps a group (as of football players) supplied with drinking water." We still have water boys (and girls). Seems that term could be applied to Marco Rubio or Paul Ryan during the VP debate, Rubio proved himself quite capable of grabbing a bottle of water on national TV...not sure if he could run with it or not, though.
I love it that the President is continuing to hammer the Republicans. If they won't do their jobs, then he needs to continue taking the issues to the people, and expose the do noting they are.
Isn't that cute...Captain Cupholder has a BFF...GraniteBoy.
So, WCA...tell us all how you got to keep your job, thanks to President Obama...that's always an attention grabber!
BCWC, we must have the same dictionary.
Mac Forrester, you'd think McConnell could figure out how to stop doing that by now but no....
hey Jobless1, how cool would it be if Obama could envoke Proscription. Sulla loved doing that...perhaps Obama can take a page out of the old Il Principe
We really need help here in NC!
Our state had been headed in a fairly progressive direction, until too many of us didn't realize how important the 2010 midterms were . . . now we have a ReThuglican State Legislature & governor, and it's all being stripped away . . . like watching the whole state being dragged back to the 1950's.
The ReThuglicans keep trashing the economy, then blaming it on Obama because the unemployment rate is so high.
and districts have been so badly gerrymandered, it may be 2020 before we can pull NC out of the sewer again. so sad. It's being argued about in court . . . but the judges are bright Red, too!
.
Progressives: start thinking about the 2014 mid-terms! we cannot afford to make the same mistake again!
.
FORWARD! :-)
Oh, so NOW it's about the economy and jobs. Gotta love ole Jay "Carnival Barker" Carney, "...spokesman Jay Carney and told readers "Obama has made jobs and the economy his primary emphasis since he began seeking the presidency in 2007."
Ha! Your sense of humor is priceless Carney! Almost as funny as your predecesor, Robert Gibbon-Monkey. I noticed that he left out the fact that Mr. Obama spent two years getting Obamacare passed through a series of backroom deals, and outright threats. But let's not forget that this president is "for the people", "Since taking office in 2009, food stamp rolls under President Barack Obama have risen to more than 47 million people in America, exceeding the population of Spain." Unless you work and pay taxes of course. And now Mr. Obama is planning on holding Keystone hostage in exchange of "carbon credits", in which he is heavily invested (as are most of his 1%er friends...). This administration reeks of hypocracy, among other things...
@NPCDAN#1.28: Oh gwadamn! Why don't you borrow a candle that ain't wick shy?
@MACFORRESTER#1.29: Oh gwadamn! Prove me wrong. And please do so without any help from msnbc if you can. Which I find highly doubtful.
KC_NC -
Yeah we really need help. Maybe we can find another progressive governor who will advocate for suspending midterm elections so Barry can get somethig accomplished?
Hilarious.
NPCDan - while you just generally reek! MAC has nothing to prove you wrong about as you've posted nothing of fact - just your general stupidity!
mpa - related to NPC are ya?
My are liberals out to lunch on the Obama agenda. First off Harry Reid isn't about to bring most of what he heard from Obama up for a vote, because Democrats wouldn't pass much of it and they don't want to be on record in opposition. But in the House where Republicans will vote no, Democrats will vote yes and there you have it. Democrats get to appear in support, the Senate does nothing, and Obama starts up another round of the blame game. As if Democrats will allow any cuts to Medicare or changes in Social Security. Boehner needs to let Obama's agenda go through the Senate first, and then take up what passes with their own version. Then meet in committee to iron out the differences like Congress is suppose to work. About the only thing that seems to have across the board support from the American people is tax reform. Take special interest groups out, and simplify the entire tax code. Which is what Democrats have been promising to do for decades. Since the House has already passed legislation to avoid sequester, it is time for Senate Democrats to put their solution on the table. Yeah, like that will ever happen. Obama is late on delivering his budget, Senate Democrats only four years late on that requirement as well, but you can bet the House will do their job whether you like it or not.
What is this, no more Parker and Ikarus?
I am truly disappointed.
I assure you life will go on Mark. The former friendly banter had become exhausted and run its course.
like your Pseudo Monarch you punt.... how does the wonder woman put it? coward
Feisty, I just heard that Jen Psaki is going to the next State Dept Spokeswomen.
Yes, I suppose it will. Carry on, Octavian.
Parker took offense when I used egregious in front of his name and did not accept that I was playing with its 16th century definition ... distinguished.
Hey Bev!
I just saw this!
Right now, it looks like I have a previous commitment, I'll call you if anything changes!
{{{hugs}}}
that name was dropped once the Senate granted me Augustus. Pater Patriae
I am first amongst equals : )
if this is true, that should put the Feisty is Jen Psaki conspiracy to rest. Frankly it gave way too much credit to Feisty
Ahhh...yes...imagine all those additional fully automatic weapons that the Secret Service will be carrying into the murder capital of the US to protect Obama...quite ironic...
Wonder why Mr. Obama didn't make his "morning after" speech in front of the NEW Boeing plant ?
Nah, wouldn't have looked too good for the DOJ nor the NLRB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, then FLYeisty/Jen Psaki could rub elbows with Cuttless (Clueless).
indeed it is..but no Light Machine guns, probably an MP5 or variant of. they have to be able to conceal these weapons of mass destruction
Ido, you give Fisty way too much credit to be this Jen person. I think this Jen person has a better grasp of American Politics than the FR town crier
Mr. Obama has been on RECESS for the past FOUR years and 26 Days.
Heck, he is even thinking about playing golf again at his stop in N.C. this morning.
[What is this, no more Parker and Ikarus?]
Yeah Mark, GraniteBoy broke up with him. Seems he's more of a ChinaDoll...his widdle feewings got hut...
Turns out he's nothing but a little coward...he even has some of us on "ignore" so his opinion doesn't interfere with reality...go figure!
or as it's becoming known; business as usual. It seems that's all those folks do anymore these days. Never anything constructive, just b!tch and moan. Well, I can understand why. Stayed around here last night after the SOTU speech was done and the hate was so thick you could have drove a semi-truck on it.
The presidents gathering in Chicago. Will that be happening in the Southside of Chicago, where a great portion of the violence is going on? I'll guarantee you those folks will feel safer tomorrow and friday than they have for years
Why stop at $9.00 an hour? Why not $100,000 a year for EACH AND EVERY United States citizen? Why not RAISE the economic future of EVERY AMERICAN to at least a SIX FIGURE income?
Come on Barry, why are you setting your sights so low? Why do you force these people to live on LESS THAN $20,000 a year? Come on Barry.......
And while you're at it.... set the MAXIMUM income for every ELECTED official at $250,000..... use all that EXTRA money to fund the rest......
Fuzzy Douchebag from Roselle, It's weird how you and your cyber friends make play dates on message boards. I'm sure the Prez's armed detail will be on high alert in Chicago, one of the most dangerous gun-free zones in the civilized world. He's not going to take any kind of stand against violence in Chicago like your cyber friend (hopelessly)Seeking Sanity hopes for because of the risk of offending his electorate. I think the only reason he's stopping by is to grab some clean underwear for his upcoming vacation. I also saw where Sanity was waxing on about the US taking up high-tech manufacturing like it's some kind of fresh idea or epiphany he/she just had. You all need to chase the butterflies out of your head, the country is headed down the tubes because of the emptiness, void of morals, lack of ethics, and the utter cluelessness that is the progressive bowel movement.
I am re-assured that more Political Representatives are finally trying to encourage Companies to start up and/or expand their operations here in our U.S.A. I also like the fact that it is becoming more acceptable to return to our modern view of trickle up economics that were planed and encouraged by the Twentieth century Industrialist Ford. The trickle up economy was invented in this country and produced the fantastic growth of our middle class ,to the envy of the world. Before this period we on this planet have always had trickle down economics .The Ruling Classes and their ardent supporters demanded that and crushed the ordinary workers who tried to change it. It was changed by enlightened American Industrialists which caused this country to be the envy of the world. I have been shocked and discouraged by the short sighted views of our present day industrialists. Even they should ,by now have understood that our enlightened economic standards improve the living conditions of all. I hope that this present Recession will put to rest for all time the claims and views of the world leaders and their lackeys
NPCDan,
It is hard to do anything when you have half of Congress stopping anything from happening. Now I do agree he should have left the ACA fight till later but it was unnecessarily dragged out by Republicans. Many of the proposals in it were originally Republican ideas, they should have had no problems getting on board. Did not happen and they chose to become Gov Romney on their past ideas like the mandate.
Now nothing can get done because we have this stupid argument every few months about the debt. As Obama said in the STOU, we are creating manufactured crises one after another and bogging down the daily business with this bullcrap. They need to get in there, agree to more tax increases and/or meaningful tax code reform, defense spending cuts, and smart entitlement reforms that minimize the impact to benefits as much as possible.
h
hi, Pigotry!
hi, Amy.
'h' means 'hi' in #2.
Hi, every friend here on this vine - no sour grapes on this vine, I hope.
Pig, I remember a day when we were number one in tech. Then, thanks to the global "economy" and trade, our ideas got stolen, recreated a hell of a lot cheaper, and handed to us on a silver platter from across the ocean. Do you really think televisions, radio, computers, and the first man on the moon came from other countries and we just watched? No, we did it. WE led the way. Then, someone else did it cheaper.
Companies used to have a huge budget for R&D and development of new and wonderful things. Now the only ones (or the major ones only) are the auto companies and big business. The smaller ones, not so much.
I, like you, hope we can get back to that.
hi, Talk..no empty 'talk' please, we need action -
Invest more in education to achieve that lead in tech...but again we got the GOP leaders who have said no to more investment. GOP wants more cuts. Republican leaders say people can afford more taxes even if such taxes mean more future revenues which the rich will benefit more from.
Pig I have to disagree. In days gone by it wasn't GovCo who provided the funding to private business for technological advancement. They did that, for the most part, by themselves (save NASA and a few other highly government exposed agencies and vendors). I think the incentive is gone (my opinion only) as business knows as soon as they advance technologically, someone else will take advantage of their work and copy it and take away the profits they needed to recoup the R&D costs. In this day and age it takes a much shorter time, with the technology available, to be able to bring a product to market.
@Talk to the Hand#2.5: Pretty much agree with you, except, these businesses went off shore for the cheap labor, then send the products back here for consumption, which in turn creates deficits, since most have to consume on credit due to no longer being paid to build, or process the products. China, for example, a nation of some 1.7 to 2.3 billion people have only some 80 million who qualify as consumers. If they couldn't export the junk they produce they would have virtually no economy. Course, the investment community of this country ( Wall Street) benefits greatly from this warped arrangement, but it really screws the hell outta the rest, which is mostly, the once middle class and poor. Can't get any of the politicians to even talk about this, much less offer some idea of remedial action. Until this is corrected, or, a newer set of national economic endeavors are undertaken, we will continue economically, to reap the wind. Regards
typo alert for #2.4
Republican leaders say people can't afford more taxes even if such taxes mean more investments in education for more R&D and thus more future revenues which the rich will benefit more from.
@Pigotry#2.7: Republicans are simply full of it. Investment in education, Science, and R&D must come from the Federal Government. The complexities and costs would never be borne by private enterprise. This really is one of the many jobs of good Government. Regards
Is anybody even listening to this half-breed idiot?
Jeez, Mac, what planet have you been living on for the last 100+ years? I hope it wasn't dear old Earth! You go do some research and you will find that well over 70% of new patents were filed by either individuals or corporations. The only thing the government does when it involves itself in research is slow the R&D program down to a glacial pace. Oh, and increase spending when the person assigned to the R&D program decides he needs his own little hierarchy and each assistant needs assistants and so on, so on, so forth.
We do not need these centers for innovation that he preaches about; what we need is a rationalized tax system that allows companies to spend any money they earn from anywhere on research for the next new blockbuster product.
This man is still living in a bubble that passes only air in. Absolutely no reality can pass into the bubble. Then he outgasses carbon dioxide and heat which pass out of the bubble and destroy the ozone and raise the air temperature.
Remember the words "Haaah, Ah'm here from the gumint and Ah'm here to hep you." Obamie's program in 12 words.
@Bob in KC-no's: Good Gwad! I guess you credit Dupont with harnessing the atom? Was it one of the drug companies who get credit for Dr. Walter Reeds work? Most private discoveries always are through Government funding. Once these are established and working, private enterprise often innovates, making them work better, more efficiently, and effectively. Just read a few more pages. You'll learn, if you'll stop allowing political claims to confuse you.
Oh look. The President is back on the campaign trail.
WCA - yes, the President is doing what many other Presidents - like Reagan - did. He's taking his programs to the people he represents. YOU are such a sorry individual. Don't you ever get tired of WHINING?????
Boehner has Congress in recess all next week. How is that not working for you working out for you?
bcwc - well they've worked for what, 2 days? They're sooooo tired of doing NOTHING!!! But, they're mostly Republican so it's the best we can hope for! Just wait til 2014!!!!
Ss while I agree all presidents have done this to some extent, it used to be they scheduled a presidential address from the white house to state their case. They didn't travel constantly and have town meetings and gatherings for EVERY policy they wanted instituted. You would think with technology today and the push for less fossil fuel usage and its supposed affect on global warming, that that technology would be the main focus. Yes, we did have the SOTU last night. He basically laid out what he wanted. I just don't get the point of traveling to four or five cities to reiterate it. Is it because he is afraid no one watched? Is it because the SOTU address is like the Grammy awards and a week from now no one will remember? I don't know. I am puzzled.
If you understand more please enlighten me. It just seems the last couple of administrations don't use the power of the "tube" and the internet as they could to get the message across.
Oh and BTW, Here he is in Asheville, NC and so close he could spit to Charlotte and has yet to make good on his promise to come back to those folks who had tickets to the outdoor venue for the DNC and address them at some sort of get together. I seem to remember you or one of the other regulars on here telling me last fall that he would and I should bank on it. Wish you had been right.
Talk to the Hand
Didn't know your are in NC. I lived in Winston-Salem a couple of years back ... Wake Forest was number one until I arrived ... whoops, sorry about that.
BCWC - Been here for 5 years (moved for a job opportunity). Still haven't got the Tarheel, Duke, fever as my heart is elsewhere in sports so no big deal.
bcwc - I'm from Winston-Salem and lived about a mile from Wake Forest! It's a beautiful city. There are times I miss it! It was 1 1/2 hours to the mountains and 3 hours to the coast!
bcwc - miss that NC BBQ!
Damyou - and yet the Congress has much lower ratings than President Obama - and most blame Republicans for that. So, wise up - seems a lot of intelligent people are beyond tired of the obstructionists of the Republcian Party and can't wait to vote them out in 2014. Why do you think Rubio took a softer stance last night?
Boehner needs to do the required agenda items in the House and nothing more. We have a Democrat in the White House, and Democrats in control in the Senate, so let the Democrats lead on the Obama agenda. Boehner needs to only consider an agenda item after it has passed the Senate. If the Senate can't pass it, or won't take it up, why should the House? Harry Reid hasn't even allowed votes on the vast majority of what the House has sent to him, so why send more? If the House leads on the Obama agenda they will be setting themselves up for another round of the blame game. Which is after all, the real Obama agenda.
Rick - the blame game is the GOP and your agenda - not the President's. But of course you deflect - it's all you have!
SeekingSanity says "Rick - the blame game is the GOP and your agenda - not the President's. But of course you deflect - it's all you have!"
Wow, I stand corrected. Apparently SS does have a sense of humor. Good one SS, very amusing.
Rick - sadly, you're not intelligent or amusing! But keep trying!
Mr. Obama has been on RECESS for the past FOUR years and 26 Days.
Heck, he is even thinking about playing golf again at his stop in N.C. this morning.
Well the entitlement crowd he panders to don't care as long as they get their taxpayer freebies. You need to have "skin in the game" to care about what HE is doing with the taxpayer money and traveling for the next 4 yrs on our dime is not fiscally sound nor warranted. This is narcissism at its best and the lapdogs keep yipping around the koolaid bowl!
Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
The completely indoctrinated of each party, known as PARTY DRONES, are soooo boring.
Listen! It's a bell! SALIVATE!
We do better when he's not in DC
The one weakness I saw in President Obama in his first term seems to be addressed in his second term and that is the use of the "bully pulpit", taking it directly to the people. Pressure on Congress from the President backed by a majority of citizens may just get those Congress critters off their collective duffs and working for us. The corporations can fend for themselves.
I agree, although, I think in the first term, cleaning up the multiple messes left by Bush and the GOPers, plus two wars, made it difficult to spend much time on the road or likely he felt there was too much work to be done, bad optics. He probably realized the optics didn't matter anyway because the right-wingers moaned and groaned whenever he did take a few hours off, played golf, or took a vacation so why not give them something else to chew.
Did you read the MSN fact checking story on the speech. Great stuff. Makes the SOTU speech hugely funny and shows how much he had to stretch the truth to make it sound good. Car mileage has doubled since he took office bwahahahahah! Created 500,000 jobs if you don't count the 600,000 we lost. too funny.
Sane (You're not) the fact checkers haven't hit him nearly as hard as his predecessors - like Bush, Reagan, etc. When you do the bwahhaha nonsenese you show how totally idiotic you are! What are you - 5 years old?
Think Bush lost those jobs.
I thought we were talking about Mr. Obama's SOTU address. He is the current president isn't he? Please try to stay on topic. The man is just another snake-oil salesman, and a piss poor one at that...
NPCDan - and yet Obama is HEADS above anyone the Republicans have! Really irks you doesn't it - that the GOP is such low bottom feeding slime!
Doesn't irk me one bit. You're certainly entitled to your "opinion". And that's all it really is, an opinion. "Heads above"? I don't think so. You see, I'm not hispanic, although I am a minority. I don't live off of welfare, although I have relatives on the reservation who do. I believe in personal accountability and responsibility. Although I don't prescribe to all of the diatribe from the right, I certainly don't from the left. If you get an opportunity, please watch the video of Dr. Benjamin Carson, and HIS take on America. I would vote for this man in an instant, should he decide to run. Here's a link:
http://nj1015.com/dr-benjamin-carsons-amazing-speech-at-national-prayer-breakfast-video/
NPC - I don't care about your ethnicity - I care about your lack of comprehension of the Republican party and the hatred they have for anything that doesn't benefit their leaders. You don't have a clue and it shows in your post. I've watched Carson and he's just another blithering idiot who doesn't give a damn about anyone - just winning!
It really doesn't matter what facts you put in front of Obama's minions on this site. Fiesty, Seeking Sanity, Pigotry, and the rest will believe what their idol tells them to believe. Perception is reality to them. I think it really bothers them that the GOP controls the House. I want Obama to keep doing what he is doing. Remember what happened when he had the super majority and crammed the Stimulus and Obamacare down our throats? The result: the Dems got slaughtered in the midterms. Can hardly wait to pick up the Senate.
Wow! Speaks volumes that you would denigrate someone who, as opposed to Mr. Obama, didn't have pretty much EVERYTHING handed to him. The man came from a dirt poor family, and became one of the world's best pediatric surgeons. Never had anything "handed" to him, he did what his conscience told him to do, and that was to go and EARN it. But I guess since neither Dr. Carson, nor myself will toe the liberal line, we are inherently evil, and stupid. Good post "seeking", you truly showed your character in that one.
Chris never been a Rhodes or any other kind of scholar - you're just the kind of delusional person the GOP loves - you'll follow them blindly shouting stupidity like "idol," messiah", "communist" etc as much as you can because you have nothing else.
Idiot NPC- President Obama had NOTHING handed to him and if you knew anything you'd know that. Try being at least a little honest - you just look foolish when you post the garbage you do! And, dear boy, you have NO character to show! Just keep posting drivel - it suits you!
SS,
The one that look foolish is you. You just jump right on in and embarrassed yourself.
Dr. Carson became a neurosurgery resident at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. At age 33, Dr. Carson became the youngest physician to ever head a major division at Johns Hopkins. He is currently the director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, a position he has held since 1984, and a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatric medicine.
And you called him a blithering idiot.
Classic!
Honest as in the fact checks, right? Perhaps Obama should have hired some "fact checkers" before he gave the speech.
@thetotas#5.11: Carson is as crazy as a loon. GW Bush gave him a medal in 08 and the damn fool began howling at the moon every night. Just picture Allen west full of bad meth and you have Carson.
My pet spider Charlotte has found herself a new fly to wrap in her silk...
There are many persons who have advanced by their own abilities. Some of those able people then proceed to advance the social welfare of the majority of us. The rest of them are consumed by their need to enrich themselves only. It is my opinion that most self made humans over value their deserts and subdue,if they ever had some, their duties to fellow humans. To be self advanced is sometimes good, other times bad, therefore to admire a person who is truly self something or other is unwise and often incorrect.
You are truly one of a kind "seeking"! And I don't mean that in a good way. I honestly don't know how old you are, but during the 80's there was this little thing called "affirmative action". For a substandard student, such as Barry Sorweto (sp?), it made it possible for students like himself to get into the higher echelons of education based entirely on ethnicity. Being a wasp, I highly doubt that you've even heard of such a program. And for the record, you are without a doubt, one of the most mean spirited, and racist people I've had the misfortune to communicate with. Hell, even "macforrester" is a nicer person to communicate with, and that's saying a LOT! But I guess it's very hard to distinguish between a community organizer, and a licensed surgeon. And I guess to you, and others like you, that Dr. Carson would look like a loon, talking about personal responsibility, personal accountability, and the like is pure sophistry to the left leaning citizens. That you would admire a politician that promises the moon, and delivers dust over a esteemed surgeon that SAVES lives, speaks volumes. Have a great day, you silly left leaning loons!
Give it up POS obama. You are a lying sack of POOPY and a complete MORON!
Ya gotta admit he sure dropped the gauntlet on the teabaggers yesterday.
What are you? 5?
LMFAO at what passes as a Republiclown these days...
Actually, you guys voted for the all time MORON in 2008. Half Governor Sarah Palin!!!
Sane is just a troll.
Seems to me that this person is simply excercising his/her 1st amendment rights. So this makes one a "troll". If that's the case, I need to get the crap off of this bridge!
And climb in the cage.
What? And chance contracting the Ebola virus from the rest of you monkeys? I'd rather not...
@NPCDan#7.1: You don't like President Obama. We get it. Got something to say, say it. As far as Crap on the bridge; was it there before you got there? If it was you oughtn't to have stepped in it. If it wasn't, you should'a had more sense than to have put it there. And dammit!, learn to spell. Hypocrisy ain't no "hypocracy".
Thank you for the scathing, yet refreshing critique "mac"! Your underlying tone of aggression and dismissal tells me, as well as anyone who can read, what your character consists of. Stay hypocritical my liberal friend! And thanks "damnyou". Like the moniker. And I usually try to avoid demonstrations, or union sponsored events. Don't want to piss of the SEIU, and get the crap kicked out of me by several large Cro-Magnons. And believe me, it would take several...
Mac - you have to excuse little NPCDan - who keeps touting character because he has shown he has none.
@Seeking Sanity#7.7: Awh, Dans okay. He just can't ever present himself between that quick space of being drunk or suffering a hangover. By the way, I admire the way you handle yourself. Tough, and doggedly responsible. Best regards
@thetotas#5.11: Carson is as crazy as a loon. GW Bush gave him a medal in 08 and the damn fool began howling at the moon every night. Just picture Allen west full of bad meth and you have Carson.
Mac Forrester,
SS I admire the way you handle yourself. Tough, and doggedly responsible. Best regards
Wow, this makes complete sense to me now.
@thetotas#7.9: You sure? I'm skeptical. I think you're just sniffing my leg.
Birds of a feather...."tough and doggedly responsible"? You two should just get a room, and please use protection.
Glad to see President Obama take his message on the road. He has a vision and I believe that vision is one shared by a large majority of Americans. The best way to achieve the vision is for the people to push their legislators to act.
Reading the Congressional GOPers reaction to last night's speech tells me the GOPers are reeling from too many ideas at one time. They can only focus on one itty, bitty thing at a time without a blackout from circuit overload.....actually, they can't even handle one thing before blowing a fuse.
I see Congress is taking an extended 10-day vacation to celebrate President's Day, most citizens are lucky if they get one day off. So much for the Sequester Crisis the GOP has been yelling about. Why stay and work on it when they can go home, do nothing and hope it magically disappears--you know, Etch-a-Sketch it.
You do realize that every time he takes off on Air Force 1 it costs us $250,000.00, so that's around 1/2 a million a trip. He should start cutting his own expenses to help the country.
You mean like Reagan and the two Bushes who used Air Force 1 quite a bit?
Add Pelosi to that list as well. This piece of nastyness flies across the country every week, at the taxpayers expense I might add.
Guess Shawn doesn't remember all those trips to Crawford, Texas; or the trips to AZ and other parts of the country to sell "privatizing social security", flying over New Orleans, and a long, long list of other Bush flights. So, Shawn, does the cost of AF One only matter if a democrat is president?
NPCDan, you do realize we taxpayers fund Speaker Boehner's private plane and he heads home every weekend, too. Those costs were added after 9/11 for safety. I don't have a problem with that whether it is a republican or a democrat; same with our President, R or D.
And Republican leadership take those same flights!!!
You are certainly correct "Jody", however Mr. Boehner didn't gripe and cry until he got his jet "upgraded" to the status befitting Madam Pelosi. It's truly unbelievable that someone would actually admire this woman, or what's left of her, "(s)he's more machine than woman now...twisted and evil." I jest, but it was kind of funny!
Again, thank you "damnyou". I hail from the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma, deposited there by one Andrew "Screw you" Jackson. And I served three years on the Army, so I'm kind of used to the abuse! And yes, I see the hypocracy of being a native american, and serving in the very same Army that was used maliciously to remove my people from their ancestral homeland. To make matter worse (or better), I was attached to the same unit as Custer in Desert Storm. Irony like a mofo!
@Damyou#8.9: I hired a bunch of 'em outta Tahlequah, Oklahoma once, and all they would do is stay drunk. Good, friendly people, but good gwad, wouldn't do nothing but lay drunk. Maybe they were exceptions. Least I hope so.
Well "Mac", I see we agree on SOMETHING. That there is an alcohol epidemic in most Native American communities, that is largely ignored, unless you hire a bunch of drunks out of Tahlequah. But bless you for hiring these guys. And there are exceptions, just like any other ethnic group.
Obama is a job killer in NC. Most of the businesses he visited here have either closed or laid off large groups of people, I hope the plant in Asheville doesn't fall prey to his curse!
Really? What businesses has he visited in NC that have either closed or laid off large groups of people? Be careful in your answer.
Pres Obama is NOT the "job killer" in NC . . . the ReThuglicans took over the legislature & the governor's office, and are trashing the economy, which was in pretty good shape until the 2010 mid-terms. Now they are doing their damnedest to drag a fairly progressive state back to the 1950's, complete with voter suppression, and gerrymandering.
It's the state ReThuglicans who are the job-killers.
.
FORWARD! :-)
So true KC. Those ReThuglicans have created big problems for the state. I've also heard that Tim Moffitt is hated by the folks of Asheville.
So if we compare his lies to other peoples lies, his lies don't count? Bwahahaha again seeking. Noticed you left Bill Clinton out of that comparison. bwahahaha again. He lied, and that matters, he had to make "good stuff" up. That is sad and pathetic right now. Knowing someone else lied before has little bearing on it.
Man if you compare him to Nero he really looks great, Nero lied in his SOTU.
Perhaps you should look at the lies of Willard Romney and Paul Ryan. Now, those boys can lie.
Nice deflection "Job". Neither of them delivered the SOTU speech either.
"Can you define what "is" is?" - SW Clinton
I can define "is". Is means you is a troll.
Thank God for that, and neither of them will ever delivered the SOTU. What you witnessed last night was the best ever SOTU Address!!!
Forward!
Ha! Nice play on words "marlinbegger"! You is one mean cat! LMAO
And no "JobNone". I witnessed the best SOTU address in the mid 80's. You remember, when America was an actual superpower, both militarily and economically?
@NPCDan#10.6: Gwaddamn! Mid 80's huh? Gasoline higher than a Ga pine. Interest rates even higher. Innovation of laborers to contract staffing agencies. Over 200 Marines killed in Lebanon. War with Grenada, which no one is sure who actually won, and a President suffering from severe dementia. You need to hire someone to file your hoe there "digger Dan".
Dang! You sure are a bitter one, aren't you "mac"? I remember gas being BELOW a dollar a gallon, the fall of the East Bloc Nations (I was in Germany when the wall came down...), Granada and Panama getting spanked in a major way, and Hussein evicted from Kuwait. President Reagan didn't come down with dementia until the mid 90's. I find your revisionist history lesson amusing at best, and disingenious at worst. But then again, Mr. Reagan did have to spend a few years cleaning up the mess in inherited from ole Jimmy "Jimbo" Carter...
NPCDan#10.9: Psssst Dan, you're kinda running your history amok. You maybe... er, unh, drunk there Dan? Actually CNN had much more to do with the crumbling of the Soviet Union than poor Reagan ever did. Memories of a drunk are not to be trusted Dan. Delirium tremors you see.
LMAO! Thanks for the advice "mac". Surprisingly, I was sober for the majority of the 80's. 90's? Not so much. But, if I'm understanding you correctly, the MEDIA can, and does control the court of public opinion. Now how about that statement make by Mr. Obama about, and I'm paraphrasing, "being in bed with ABC?"
Does Obama play the violin?
Nero certainly did not. And some historians of repute claim he was out of town at the time.
@Sane-insane no's#11: Don't think He plays the Violin. Sure can make a "drone" moan though.
the president has it figuared out, puff up you record (msn's analysis), keep moving, keep spinning, for heavens sake don't give another interview to telemudo and count on the press to continue to give you a pass. your chief of staff lew comes up with the specifics of the sequester legislation, it passes and you sign it and start taking credit for enacting those cuts then you say everyone knows this isn't a good idea, where did this come from, what? did you propose a fix, substitute cuts or just give another speech? your supporters should have required more from you, the country and they would be further along rather than just treading water.
the president really needs to step it up. one of his first meetings as a newly elected sen was with doris kerns goodwin. he told her appreciated her book on lincoln wanted to run for president and when elected be a transformational figuare. news flash 7.9% unemployment, 23 million un/under/quit looking and taking the deficit from $10.4 trillion to $20 + trillion isn't going to cut it.
The liar in chief....what a loser....he is building a second oval office that is costing tax payers 387 million...what the hell does he need with two...he's never in the first one...bring on the sequester....Obama wanted it...let him have it....
I've heard this will be a much smaller Oval Office. He kept getting lost when told to stick his nose in the corner. And it will match his workload, or lack thereof.
LOL
dixie girl - you'e clearly delusional but fit in well with NPCDan and Joe66 - all of you together don't have one brain cell!
SeekingSanity
boo hoo..LOLOLOL With a name like SeekingSanity you not to well blessed with brain cells either.LOL
SeekingSanity...judging from you screen name I would say you are the delusional one...but....don't worry...with Obamacare you should be able to see a Dr. in the looney ward....lol...
stupid joe and dixie - as I always say, seeking sanity in the Republican party but bottom feeders like you two prove there is absolutely none to be found. My guess is the looney ward is your permanent home dixie - so pitiful but so predictable! Sad, ignnorant and foolish little Republican minions!
Well seekingsanity you better find a job they going to cut food stamps soon.
"Seeking", you should rephrase that to "trying to seek some sanity in the
SocialistDemocratic Party". It would make much more sense if you did so, and would take considerably longer as well. But from what I understand, "sense" is something sadly lacking in both your political affiliation, and the current residents of the wh. Now run along, screw someone over with our "financial expertise" (aren't you a mortgage direktor, or something like that?), while pining over your Dookey (Duke) blue wall plaque.Joe - I guess you think you're funny. I work and probably make a lot more than you. However, I don't begrudge anyone who is going through a difficult time from receiving assistance. It's what we in the US do - we help those less fortunate.
And, before you start your stupidity about people being lazy, I've seen lines of people trying to get jobs. Plus many people work 2 jobs just to put food on the table.
So, get off your high horse you low life! You're no one and you are no better than those who receive assistance. Plus, you're too stupid to realize that.
My guess is you call yourself a Christian, too, right? What a joke!
NPCDan - nope I've got it right. You, joe66 and dixie trash prove there is absolutely no santiy to be found in the Republican party. You truly are pathetic and your little playmates prove that daily!
And, dear, you have NO sense of any kind!
In preparation for a major, two-year renovation of the West Wing ($376M), the government is undertaking extensive work to complete a temporary executive office for the President at the south end of the adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
The White House is a National Heritage Site owned by the National Park Service, falling under the management of the DOI. The renovation plan has been in the works for 2 years with delays worked into the plans to accomodate a change in administrations had that taken place.
"High horse-low life". Sounds like it make an excellent country-western song! Keep spewing your vitrole "seeking". Maybe someday, someone will point your faults out to you as well. Gotta get to work now, that 1/2 braincell is getting brutalized today!
To those from both political parties/If you have constructive criticism,I enjoy reading it and hoping that I may learn something to consider, but your bitching and insults are neither amusing nor inventive. Try to be one or the other or hopefully, both. I do enjoy funny insults.
Again the party of stupid is coming up with more of their lies. You people need to get out of that kool aid bubble.
Job1....it's a fact...and you King Obama loons are the ones that are going to be drinking the koolaid....
dixie trash - you idiots who are so fixated on koolaid really need to grow up! It's a child's drink and wasn't even that good when I was a child. However, for mental midgets like you it's probably a treat!
See post 13.10.
NPCdan#14.3: Why?
Gwadammit "Mac"! Because it says that the w.h. is going to be renovated to the tune of $376M. Pay attention.
@NPCDan#14.5: Don't get testy. Just trying to keep you awake.
Lol! I realize that sir! Lord knows I need the help!
If Obama wants to talk about manufacturing he should come to the great state of South Carolina. The peoples republic of North Carolina always drives their jobs to South Carolina.
But didn't South Carolina vote for Neut Gingrich in the teabagger primary a year ago. Who would go to a backward rat hole like that? Not me thank you.
People I know don't think much of democrats or republicans.
Boeing.
Well that's typical of Obama.
The article clearly states Lynamar moved to Asheville because of work local and State officials did to create incentives to intice Lynamr to move to N.C.
Not once in the article was there any mention of any thing the Federal Government or anything Obama did had anything to do with it.
But heres Obama stepping in to try and take credit for what the State and local communities did to create jobs.
Maybe the lesson that should be learned here is that the Federal Govrenment needs to get the hell out of the way so America can heal itself because there isnt a Damn thing D.C. is doing to help it.
nothing to help? how about roads, security, educating a workforce
What? The $800 Billion dollar stimulous 4 years ago didn't take care of all that? You know all those shovel ready jobs?
Oh now we wants $50 Billion more for those things.
We must have the most expensive roads in the World.
You didn't build that....
David/ The present objective from Companies appears to be to wring incentives from States ,usually tax incentives for their co.they all are determined to not pay their fair share. When the bribes are nearly ended, those Companies start to look for the best tax evading offer for them to accept. You mean to believe that they put the country first? Get real! Loyalty to the country doesn't even enter the equation.
The teabaggers are slow to learn, as might be expected. They can't stand to see Obama go into campaign mode to push his agenda. They claim he isn't working and spending too much money but the real reason: Obama is good at campaigning and putting pressure on the tea people. And also, listen up tea people, the campaign for the 2014 mid-terms started today and your caught flat footed. Sorry, you lose again.
That's all he knows how to do...campaign...and don't worry...by the time 2014 get's here....the democraps will lose the senate...
dixie - in 2014 the Democrats will take back the House and keep the Senate because of low information lunatics like you!
All Hail the Campaigner in Chief!
Obama has been in campaign mode for 5 years ...maybe thats why we broke ...actually thats all he knows how to do is campaign.
Let me see if I have this right.
Volvo closed the plant causing 228 people to lose their jobs. At a cost of at least $18 Million dollars of taxpayers money Lynamar moves in and has hired 160 people and says they will hire 40 more by this end of this year which will bring the Total up to 200 Employees. A net loss of 28 jobs.
Obama Flies there and says this should be the Model for America and what his plans will do.
Oh they said they would hire up to 363 people. Well see if that ever actully happens.
Remember when Solyndra was the Green Energy future and was toughted by Obama as the Model for what America can achieve?
I remember that !!!!!
You are awful
Been in business for over 29 years and I sit on two economic development councils. We almost wet ourselves laughing on the absurdity of Obama's grand plans for the economy. What a tool.
No hold on a minute! Doesn't this man have a Nobel Peace Prize for..........(cue crickets chirping)......
Don't forget folks, those 28 new programs Obama wants to introduce will not add a single dime to the deficit!
Who can take a sunrise
Sprinkle it in dew
Cover it in chocolate
and a miracle or two?
The candyman
The candyman can
The candyman can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
YES! Sammy Davis Jr. freaking rocked that song!
Looks more like a campaign than a working president......campaign is over...STOP SPENDING................All fluff and no substance...........but then again his minions eat it up...................
After reading and listening to what those GOP/Tea Party Fools have to say, all I've got to say is, ..."Thank God for President Obama!"
You mean "Thank God Obama was re-elected so I can continue to get 1000 weeks unemplyment, then go on welfare and get free housing assitance and food stamps"
Chris - never a scholar - sorry you're on assistance and I hope you find employment soon. Clearly that might help your temperament as well as teach you a little - apparently your brain doesn't absorb much.
Georgemc - SO TRU!
Might as well. According to Jamie "Feces for Brains" Foxx, Mr. Obama is "our Lord and Saviour"!
