Published at 9:00 a.m ET: Previewing tonight’s State of the Union: Obama’s last chance to go big… NYT on a bolder, more aggressive Obama… The president’s three economic questions… State of the Union also presents a fresh face for the GOP (Rubio), but it also exposes the party’s lingering warts… Expect Obama to mention North Korea’s nuclear test… Hagel gets his first vote (at committee) today… And drip, drip on Menendez.
*** Obama’s last chance to go big: Here’s a reality about a second-term presidency: You have a narrow window -- at the beginning of the term -- to persuade Congress to do something big. For Ronald Reagan, it was tax reform (which he achieved); for Bill Clinton, it was education reform (which failed); and for George W. Bush, it was Social Security reform (which crashed and burned). And this is perhaps the best way to view President Obama’s State of the Union address at 9:00 pm ET tonight. It is essentially his last chance to lay the groundwork for domestic achievements. In his speech tonight, Obama is expected to push for second term agenda: comprehensive immigration reform, ways to curb gun violence, and his preferences to grow the economy and reduce the deficit. And it’s the issue of the economy where the president will spend a lion’s share of his time.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd talks about the importance of Tuesday's State of the Union address.
*** A bit bolder, a bit more aggressive Obama: As the president addresses the nation tonight, the New York Times makes an observation we’ve noted in the past few weeks: Obama, fresh off his re-election, has become a bit bolder, a bit more aggressive president. “[I]t is clear from these personal accounts as well as his public acts, like his bold Inaugural Address, that he has shown an assertiveness, self-possession, even cockiness that contrasts with the caution, compromise and reserve that he showed for much of his first term,” the Times says. “What is not so clear is whether Mr. Obama can parlay this commanding self-assurance — borne of re-election, hard lessons learned and Republicans’ disarray — into victories as he tries to turn Washington away from its obsession with deficit-cutting to a broader progressive agenda. Or will he overreach, alienate some Americans and cement the partisan divide he once promised to bridge?” If Obama’s inaugural address last month was any indication, we can probably expect more new things in tonight’s speech than many might think.
*** The president’s three economic questions: As far as the economic particulars in the president’s speech tonight, we can report that all of his initiatives will fall into three categories to answer three different questions. One, how can the United States create more jobs at home? Two, how does the country get its citizens the skills they need for these jobs? And three, how does the nation help those who are working hard to make a decent living? In essence, this is how the speech will be framed, especially with the looming budget battle over the sequester. For its part, the Republican National Committee is out with a video -- entitled “When in doubt, raise taxes” -- to pre-but Obama’s State of the Union.
*** GOP’s fresh face -- but also lingering warts: Obama, however, isn’t the only one in today’s political spotlight. So is the Republican Party -- with its new hopes and lingering warts. Freshman Sen. Marco Rubio will be delivering the GOP’s response to Obama’s address, and he tells the AP that Republicans want to pursue economic policies to create jobs and cut spending. "We don't just want to be the opposition. We want to be the alternative," he said. The Weekly Standard also reports that Rubio “says he intends to draw on his personal experiences growing up in Florida to explain to the country why Obama’s policies won’t work.” But as the GOP tries to present a new fresh face, tonight’s State of the Union also will highlight many of its current problems. For instance, Rand Paul is delivering the Tea Party’s response to Obama, demonstrating the party’s establishment-vs.-anti-establishment divide. (Wasn’t Rubio supposed to be a Tea Party guy?) In addition, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX), who has already called for Obama’s impeachment, is bringing Ted Nugent to the State of the Union, providing an unnecessary distraction for a party trying to become more popular with swing voters. And National Journal reported yesterday that some House Republicans are objecting to the party’s “GOP en Espanol” to distribute Republican reactions to the State of the Union. The program is now limited to a Twitter handle. Dem-leaning American Bridge has a new video emphasizing the divisions within the GOP. The irony is that you don’t need this video; Republicans are emphasizing their own divisions.

*** Shall … we … play … a … game? Here’s one topic that Obama might NOT have addressed tonight but now most definitely WILL -- North Korea. Per USA Today, North Korea last night “detonated a miniaturized nuclear device at a northeastern test site, state media said, defying U.N. Security Council orders to shut down atomic activity or face more sanctions and international isolation.” In a late-night statement, Obama said, “This is a highly provocative act that … undermines regional stability, violates North Korea’s obligations under numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions, contravenes its commitments under the September 19, 2005 Joint Statement of the Six-Party Talks, and increases the risk of proliferation.” More from the president’s statement: “Far from achieving its stated goal of becoming a strong and prosperous nation, North Korea has instead increasingly isolated and impoverished its people through its ill-advised pursuit of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.” It’s also reported that the U.N. Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for today.
*** Tonight’s coverage: The State of the Union begins at 9:00 pm ET. But NBC’s coverage kicks off at 8:45 pm ET with a web-exclusive pre-show streaming live on NBCNews.com. The online pre-show and full broadcast will be anchored live from Washington, DC by “NBC Nightly News” and “Rock Center” anchor and managing editor Brian Williams, joined by “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory, “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie, NBC News political director and chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd, and chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell, as well as Capitol Hill correspondent Kelly O’Donnell inside the House chamber. Also, “TODAY” tomorrow will have an exclusive interview with House Speaker John Boehner.
*** Hagel gets his first vote today: This afternoon, the Senate Armed Services Committee will vote on Chuck Hagel’s nomination to be Obama’s next defense secretary, NBC’s Mike Viqueira reports. And yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said a floor vote would take place Wednesday or Thursday. Yet Roll Call notes that GOP senators are vowing to delay a floor vote. Senate Armed Services Ranking Member Jim Inhofe “told the National Review on Monday that he would insist on a 60-vote threshold for Hagel. ‘Hagel may be passed out of the committee, but it’s going to be a long, long time before he hits the floor,’ Inhofe said. ‘We’re going to need as much time as possible, and there are going to be several of us who will have holds.’”
*** A hold can delay -- but not prevent -- a vote: To be clear, however, here’s how what a “hold” is, as defined by the U.S. Senate: “An informal practice by which a senator informs his or her floor leader that he or she does not wish a particular bill or other measure to reach the floor for consideration. The majority leader need not follow the senator's wishes, but is on notice that the opposing senator may filibuster any motion to proceed to consider the measure.” In other words, a “hold” is a way for a senator to object. The Senate does a lot of work by unanimous consent -- post office namings, votes on political appointees requiring Senate approval. A hold then can slow down Senate business, because a senator is indicating he or she intends to try and require 60 votes for a bill or, in Hagel’s case, a nomination, to advance. In many cases that threat of slowing things down is enough for a majority leader to pull the legislation because it’s not worth the fight, Senate aides told First Read. But if the majority party wants the fight, and the votes are there in the Senate to overcome a potential filibuster, a hold may slow things down, but it can’t prevent approval.
*** Drip, drip on Menendez: Finally, the Bob Menendez story is officially in the “drip, drip” phase, which is never a good place for a politician. Here’s the New York Times from yesterday: “Senator Robert Menendez sought to discourage any plan by the United States government to donate port security equipment to the Dominican Republic, citing concern that the advanced screening gear might undermine efforts by a private company — run by a major campaign contributor and friend of his — to do the work. The intervention with the Department of Homeland Security last month came even though Mr. Menendez has publicly chastised the Obama administration for not doing more to combat the surging drug traffic moving through Dominican ports. And it came shortly after the senator’s friend, Dr. Salomon E. Melgen, arranged to meet with a senior State Department official, accompanied by a former aide to Mr. Menendez, in a related push to protect the port security contract, which is worth as much as $500 million over 20 years.”

CEO Tim Cook said recently that Apple has more money than it needs.
The DOW has increased by 67.9% since President Obama took office in 2009. The following year 93% of all income gains went to the top 1%. The donor class can afford deficit reduction.
But if ordinary Americans allow GOP to cut millions more jobs - as well as pulverize our safety nets, outprice Education & block new green industries - we'll experience more lost decades of no or low wages, instead of a vibrant future. For the last 4 years GOP has blocked all Jobs bills, including the recent Veterans Job Corps Bill (!!). Not so unfathomable, once you realize they're not for improving the economy. And make the middle class stronger? Not likely.
GOP loves to squawk about deficit reduction, in the wake of GWB's 2 unpaid-for wars and 2 unpaid-for tax cuts. But deficits are GOP essentials for concocting "crises" and distractions; while they steal the last crumbs off our tables, and skew our laws towards the wealthy & corporations. GOP caucus has flatout refused to address our dangerously crumbling infrastructure - needed by businesses and ordinary citizens alike.
With the help of A.L.E.C. and the Koch-backed Tea Party: 700,000 government jobs have been slashed, causing a loss of 1.1 million related jobs, undermining small businesses and communities, as well as blowing an even larger revenue hole. Under previous Presidents, public sector jobs were INCREASED in times of recession, as a recovery strategy. Without GOP's sabotage of middle class jobs - our employment figure might be closer to 6% - or at least at 7%. Despite open GOP obstruction following the worst recession in 60 years, 6.1 million private sector jobs were created over the last 35 months. And 500,000 manufacturing jobs. Such figures swamp the slow, small trickle of jobs created under GWB.
Please, we need more job creation and job training! Starting with the job creation GOP promised in 2010. It could have been done then and can still be done now, via the Infrastructure bank and the President's American Jobs Act, for starters. All the work has been done - just need to vote up or down and sign.
Until an alternative is found to the devastating austerity budget cuts in the Sequester, the President has proposed a small interim package of spending cuts and tax reforms. This will give Congress the breathing space to make genuine progress on balanced deficit reform, that eliminates the sequester permanently.
It's the healthy way to go.
Of all the wealthy industrialized nations, the U.S. is poised for the strongest recovery, thanks to the foundation laid by President Obama. MORE SPENDING to grow jobs and the economy is what we should be doing, and I think most Americans realize that. With a little political co-operation, America can lead in the imminent/inevitable green & renewable industries, and lift up ourselves & the world in the process.
After doubling their corporate revenues in 2011, Koch Industries fired one-fifth of their employees. The lesson is that multinationals like Koch Industries don't answer to, or look out for the citizens in their nation states. But they have mouthpieces in Washington to make sure they get what they want out of us - and our Constitution. They want our $$subsidies and they need our cash. But that is where their interest in us ENDS.
Last chance??? That's laughable. So are the T-baggers, the GOP, Marco Rubio and Ted Nugent.
The success of this State of the Union will be BIG. Our President's policies ; are supported by the advocacy of the 53% of the popular vote of Americans who voted for President Obama and 332 electoral votes.
No one agrees with the GOP. John Borhner should be ashamed of himself for allowing ted Nugent to be in the presence
When you've been thoroughly whipped, when your ideology and dogma have been shown to be hollow; when your brightest lights are match stubs, perhaps it's time to re-examine your position. When the doctrine you preach is rejected, when you hold fast to a past that never existed and good old days that never were, perhaps it's time to open your mind to new ideas.
Nope, not if you're a right-winger. Clearly, the shock troops of the right-wing are now descending on First Read. Dispatched by their puppet masters in Fort Fantasy, they sport body armor of bubble-wrap. Impervious to fact, they come to wreak havoc on those who dare dispute the wisdom of their brilliant leaders: Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, that governor guy in Texas....uhhhh, you know, what's his name.
"Facts? Facts? We don't need no stinkin' facts." With fingers in their ears, eyes tightly closed, and battle cries of, "La-la-la-la-la", "Cut spending....unless I like it", and the constant, "Me-me-me-me", they attack.
Click, click, click. A post is deleted. The truth disappears. Once again they are secure, reveling in their ignorance and stupidity. How ignorant? How stupid? Without realizing it, they will confirm the truth of this post.
DELETED! Ahhhh, success. It was the incredible laziness of the left-wing in 2010 that gave these idiots their foothold. They stayed home and handed the tea baggers a taste of victory by default. The tea baggers had no new ideas, no solutions, but they could sure make noise.
Now, it is the spineless remnants of a once-responsible Republican Party that rolls over in fear of the tail that now wags the G.O.P. dog, a cowering dog that licks the boots of the rich who are destroying the country.
It is impossible to overestimate the power of stupidity.
Courtesy of the dumbass deleters!
I see I twanged the nerves of the stuck on stupid crowd!
Any questions why Fox News is known as the NewsforDumbFux network?
Fascinating...
I would be embarrassed too if I watched this crap!
As President Barack Obama delivers his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, he presides over an economy much healthier than the one he inherited four years ago. Yet growth remains slow and unemployment high.
It's time to enact a job bill for veterans who are returning home. The GOP once refused to endorse it. At the same time cut some unnecessary spending on defense.
Regarding the economy, the President should allow the market to recover on its own now after so many measure to stimulate it. Just wait, and beware of out-of-control overheating...if we don't notice.
.
I am sure the GOP is gearing up for a come back after their disastrous showing November 2014. History is on the Republican side...the 6th year itch means that the American voters will give the other party a chance in the 6th year of a president - a midterm. Remember 2006 when the Dems took over both houses of Congress? The only times ther other party failed in the 6th year were in 1998 when DEMS made gains in Clinton's 6th eyar and 1822 when Monroe was president.
I can't help but wonder how well things would have recovered if there had been any semblance of civility from the republican party these last four years. As it is the president and those in congress that understand what is good for the country isn't always what is good for the party. Gun control is a great example of that. We are the most violent nation on earth and we own the most guns and then wonder why. Gun control must be high on the agenda and congress needs to step up and make the hard choices. There is no need for a gun capable of killing 20 first graders and 6 adults in a matter of a few minutes in the hands of civilians. Guns need to be registered so police can trace them back to original owners and back ground universal back ground checks a must. We need to live in an orderly society and not return to the old west, mentality that the NRA and those backers insist on.
I see they got you too, my friend!
Keep up the great work, we're doing something right! ;o)
Obama has a lot more damage to do....and all you sheep just follow blindly. He spends all your money on his agenda and pretends to care about the little guy (laughable). He then wants to spit on our Constitution and you still applaude him. Tonight he will exploit all the gun violence survivors for his cause and you will still bow at his feet. Pull your head out and take a breath of fresh air, clear you head and then try using it.
Isn't that sad... having your trash deleted (not just collapsed) indicates success to you. :-(
Pathetic.
(btw... having your trash deleted indicates success to me too! ;-)
Lets all listen for Obama's economic plan. I want specifics. Not his usuall BS. Before the pandering starts, I hope he tells us what exactly his plans are and WHY they WILL work. The last 4 years of his Presidency are a wasted 4 years for small buisness across the country. Just wait for the IRS to start taking the tax returns in a couple of years for health insurance. How will the working poor who will get bent over again by this President survive without a tax return? How will small buisness who counts on those tax returns for a bump in buisness after a slow winter survive. Obama's destruction will continue to harm Americans for years.
Listening to the MSM "pump up" a punk like Marco Rubio as a "rising star" of the GNOP is hilarious!
Last time they attempted this, was on Bobby "Who?" Jindle, and he has gone where? on the national scene since then? lmao
Marco Rubio will say in Spanish "Voto Latino" no nos gusta Obama. El piensa que esta el rey.
Guess what? We liberals don't like you either Rubio. You are a fraud and a LIAR. How can anyone believe you after all those shameless LIES you told about migrating to America because your family was oppressed in Cuba. Oh, there's that little affair you had with a staff woman too.
President Obama is not a king; he is a damn good President we trust to lead us in the right direction.
The economy is doing better .. and ... we should let the market take its course now; and ...
the President can focus on social issues to push for more social justice - such as environmental protection and gay rights.
.
I like to see a carbon tax to fund R&D in gree tech and job creation in this area ... it never hurts to have more jobs in new tech fields.
So looking forward to watching our President in action tonight. The Repugs are already WARNING" he better not be critical of them. LMAO. These fools still think their calling the shots. Time to remind them that they need to take another look at the Electoral Map. YOU LOST. Now go sit down in the corner and be quiet.
I expect Nuggent will make noise like "You Lie". Who invited this relic to this event? The man's sickening.
"GIVE EM HELL HARRY",I mean Mr. President.
Excellent start by my liberal friends on First Thoughts; great job.
"Last Chance to go big?" Really? President Obama has four years to go big; and he can suggest "big" anytime he wants. My own take is that perhaps this is the last chance for the GOPers to go SMALL which is probably what the two re-butters will do in their dueling SOTU rebuttals!
Glad to see the running clock by on First Read!
Sounds to me like you are scared of this one...
GOOD!
(oh... and thanks for the clown nose. It's been awhile)
Wonder if the President will mention his drone program tonight. It was the height of entertainment here last week watching the Libbies tie themselves into knots trying to rationalize for themselves the actual killing of ALLEGED terrorists.
So many Libbies who thought the previous administration should be tried as criminals suddenly finding themselves "Conflicted" over the President killing Americans.
One of the best weeks ever here at First Read.

Great point Backhouse!
I can't help but wonder how well things would have recovered if there had been any semblance of civility from the republican party these last four years.
Johntho, this sentence of yours really hit me. Imagine if we had seated in our government responsible intelligent legislators who cared about our future instead of their own? We don't. It's all just one big power game.
While it is fascinating to watch the click, click, click crowd delete, delete, delete, the better side show is watching the GOP/TP continue to <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Del> their own party from within. No matter how many times they try to reboot, they just can't seem to restart. It seems their hardware is woefully outdated and that shiny new GUI interface replete with no rah, blah words won't run on the old platform. MSDOS (that Reagan era system), like the GOPTP, is outdated. Perhaps they should at least consider moving on up to Windows Vista. While still outdated, it is at least within this century, where there is still a techie or two that can offer support. On second thought, perhaps Boehner was right, and the party should be relegated to the dust bin.
This would be a perfect SOTU address. I marveled as the forked-tongue one sat with head down got a tongue lashing from a brilliant, caring and compassionate man -- Dr. Benjamin Carson.
I recommend everyone to take 27 minutes of their time to listen to Dr. Benjamin Carson who was the keynote speaker at the Fellowship Foundation National Prayer Breakfast this past week. He is truly inspirational. If you are an educator -- parent, teacher, grandparent -- of our young children today, I urge you to sit down with them and listen to what he has to say. You can not ignore his personal story. You can not ignore his warnings. You can not ignore his vision.

Beverly, I too don't quite understand this "Last Chance" talking point. President Obama has barely started his second term.
I see the left thinks they can use the Huffington Post as a barometer of truth in reporting on a competing news site.
I would be embarassed if I cited this crap.
You guys are really desperate in trying to save the next 4 years.
Keep talking about Hillary folks, cuz I can't wait until the current President is out the door, too.
I am personally more interested in Paul's rebuttal then I am in Obama's SOTU or Rubio's rebuttal. I know what Obama is going to say. He's going to talk about the perceived progress he's made in the economy, and then the rest of the speech will be nothing more than vague platitudes about strengthening the middle class and adding jobs. Standard SOTU stuff. Rubio's rebuttal will be more of the same GOP talking points they always use. Paul on the other hand, may actually say something interesting.
There are a host of things that could/would make this country a better to live. In my opinion there is no doubt about that.
It is my hope that the President and Congress focus on each matter one at a time. Get each thing done and then move on to the next.
When attention is scattered to many things at the same time it gets confusing and makes for a more difficult course to accomplish each.
It's my opinion that if the President and Congress focused only on the economy first and foremost they would have a better chance of helping to grow the economy and getting people back to work. Once that is accomplished, move on to the next issue that needs the Presidents attention and start on that.
It's okay to state his agenda in the STOTU, but keep focused on main issues and accomplish each one at a time
As did I, Ben!
I sent the link to that video to all of my friends.... Obama loving or not! It was marvelous!
Pat in Racist Boston - We have been out of the recession for 4 years. We have been posied for a break out for a LONG time. Gee, do you think we have a weak stick as President whose policies of constituency governing aren't working? A President whose still waiting for the "Summer of Recovery". It's obvious to people with a brian to recognize a President with out a clue on economic success. That is why his speech will be filled with nothing again on how to fix the economy! Saying, Peoople have to pay their fair share, is about the damn dumbest thing I have ever heard. How in the HELL is saying that going to help the economy? How does this help someone get a job?
I wonder if the President's remarks delve into this area as he lectures about gun control. Maybe we'll hear him say "Hey Rahm get your damn city under control!!!!!" NOW!!!!!
http://patriotpost.us/opinion/16652
Pigotry -- Here's a shocker for you. In Canada the big oil producers are screaming FOR a carbon tax.
I see my Feisty Redhead doggy whistle continues to work like a charm! lol
Now, quit dragging your ass across the carpet and I'll toss you a Scooby-Snack... twinkle-toes!
Of course you would, when DO you ever post the truth?
It's not your style... lol
We can not ignore his fear mongering to Ben. Ben, fear is what keeps you coming back to the GOP. The more they can scare you the more they can take advantage of you.
Why on earth would any sane person want his kids to listen to his crap?
Talk about a dog whistle!
You just can't keep yourself from humping my leg the few times a week I pop in here now, can you Old Gal?
Sounds big to me.
FORWARD!!
The rhetoric that will comprise the content of the state of the union address can be summed up in one word.....FUBAR.
@Mo -- Fear???? Not hardly. There is no fear in facts. What is scary is the reality we find this country in with the present socialism-like leadership.
Another GREAT post, Ben!
However, You should understand that such 'truths' will get you labeled a RACIST here at FR.
(well done my friend!)
The only thing Obama does big is TALK!!!
He's a coward and a failure.
Yes indeed, Obama will pour out a barrage of high-sounding rhetoric to distract from his record of total fiscal insanity !
The hot air will be voluminous .... expect the polar icecaps to melt faster ! LOL !!
@Sickofthebickering -- Thank you. From his words:
I hear the President is going to be focused on the economy.
Again.
I don't think focused means what the President thinks it means.
Focused like a puppy in a pet store.
Ben - You are exactly right. If our President was honest he would say tonight. After years of our (Democrats) failed polices that have left the inner-city a waste land of murder and hopelessness that help kill that poor little girl in Chicago. I pledge to you tonight that we will offer new policies that will not destroy the African- American race that we have taken such advantage of. But no, he will pander and take advantage of the family he has there to deflect the deserved criticism of his and the Democrats failed polices of destruction and dependency.
Ben-636050
... then accordingly there are no facts to your reality. Fascinating.
Let the 'My Big Fat Propaganda' show begin tonite on a local station near you! Come hear the endless, raucous applause erupt over every word uttered! The mesmerized masses will be glued to their screens tonite, drool dripping from their chins as they receive their 'programming'. Of course, the message went out during the Superbowl from Beyonce who flashed those Illuminati signs; her recent pant suit sent other signals that those of us not in the Mickey Mouse club don't get. Meanwhile, the gay boy scouts, illegal mexicans and gun control people will be present (The Nuge will even be there with his beef jerky), ready for their two seconds of limelight for their causes. So tune in! And bring the popcorn, sure to be quite a show! (Is that circus music I hear playing in the background?)
@WCA -- Good one. This is like Groundhog Day. I wonder if the president will finally get it right after being bitch-slapped many, many times.
@BCWC -- Is that you spewing from that sticky residue???? Two words for you -- Reading Comprehension.
Hmmm... uh huh... okay... whatever...
Strange, by the time line above, it was you who came running to dirty dance on MY ankle, twinkle-toes... lol
Does anyone one from the Right have ANYTHING to say today? Seems they are tripping over themselves.
WCA's back and cheating his employer out of time. Wonder which of the big three he works for?

Here’s a reality about a second-term presidency: You have a narrow window -- at the beginning of the term -- to persuade Congress to do something big.
============
Personally, I can not stand statements like these. I am sick and tired of the notion that these (at least biologically) grown adults need to be "persuaded" to do anything. A vast majority of the Members of Congress have been in those positions for a longer amount of time than any President has served in that term. These people have no issue getting in front of a camera and a microphone and bemoan everything under the rainbow. They know what to get done and know how to get it done.
There is more effort, especially within GOP controlled States put into how to maintain pockets of power than problem resolution.
Legislating and governing is a 24/7, 365, every year in the decade, every decade in century type of thing. I'm tired of the media's continuous portrayal of 2nd terms as 18th months and I'm tired of lazy arse, son's a b's buying into the notion as well giving them a 2 year window to sit on their thumbs only to bemoan what the next Presidential contenders will or won't allegedly do to the Country.
Fisty,
Do you EVER say anything of real substance? All we ever see from you is hate to the right, personal attacks, snarky comments...
My God Woman! Get a LIFE! Why would ANYONE want to talk to you when THAT is all you've got?
(now show me the clown nose, fisty!)
He will give another lie filled talk.
The Republicans will call him out on his lies.
The Dems will wet themselfs at seeing him speak and praise his lieing as gospel.
Same crap. Same bad ending for Americans.
Sounds big to me.
I agree kaybeetoys. But as I said in my earlier post, state what you want to accomplish, but focus on each one at a time. Accomplish one then another.
President Obama listed a host of things he visioned for America when he was first elected. One of the things he wanted was health reform. He proposed a national health reform that would help millions of Americans. Many people scoffed at the idea. But he remained focused and his ideas were accepted and Congress approved a national health proposal.
Had he not focused on that issue almost wholly it never would have happened.
As an example, let's say a company is struggling and near BK. A new person takes over at the helm and walks in saying that many things have to change to get the company back on track. That person lists about fifteen things that need attention. The workers then become confused and focus only on what may be easiest or the last thing they heard and not much gets done to obtain the agenda set out. But if the person who took over had told the people "I want you to change this" everyone would be on the same page and it would be easier to accomplish that matter. Then that person states another step and so forth until the company is once again fruitful and thrivng.
DCIA why so worried about my time? What's it to you?
You ever see me worrying about the losers like you who spend all day/every day here?
Either you are stealing from your boss or you don't work. Who cares?
Take the Old Gal for instance, she has all day every day to post on here, talks about all her votes and followers and yet she just can't seem to keep herself from responding to my posts.
Just like you.
DCIA,
Just wait until tomorrow... lol
Polishing cup holders can be exhausting!
You claim to *pop* in here only a few times a week, so, you know this HOW?
*handing WCA some more rope*...
Pat Boston MA.
Beverly, I too don't quite understand this "Last Chance" talking point. President Obama has barely started his second term.
Neither do they. They'll post anything to illicit a response and fill space.
Pat,
I'm glad you're okay. I thought about you and the girls all weekend long. Get this, I went shopping Saturday with nothing but a sweater on. I wasn't in a car either. That frightens me. I don't know what to expect. This weather is to freaky. It shouldn't be this warm in Chicago.
@rukidding47 -- Don't forget the Ringling Brother traveling clown show the president will immediately embark on taking the diversion to new heights. "Hey America watch my three-ring circus while I sneak up behind you with no KY jelly" -- Barack Hussein Obama.
The bizarre story about how Bill O'Reilly shows how the right wing mind works. MSNBC and Rachel Maddow are the epitome of the biased liberal media that justifies the right's knee-jerk rejection of reality for everything from global warming (a hoax pushed by the liberal media) to the reelection of Barack Obama (a calamity that happened because the liberal media covered up his terrible record and downplayed Mitt Romney's wonderfulness).
But the story about the leaked document on drones that has caused the Obama administration lots of headaches was broken by that demoness Rachel Maddow on the satanic MSNBC network -- a network that's a lot more liberal than most of the so-called liberal media. That simply doesn't fit into the alternate reality that Fox has built so carefully for its right wing viewers. So how to deal with the problem? O'Reilly simply pretends that MSNBC covered up the story rather than breaking it, and then screams that anyone who points out his fraudulence is a "loon." And with his name-calling drowning out the truth, the Fox viewers can sink back comfortably into their sofa cushions, secure in the knowledge that all of life's ills can be blamed on the liberal media.
nomoresameo, you have a point... but remember that the GOP's main agenda is to obstruct anything Obama attempts to do to move the country forward. Proposing several initiatives at the same time dilutes the ability of the GOP to organize opposition. That has been Obama's strategy thus far, and I'd say it has worked out pretty well. We supporters need to keep up the pressure on our local representatives to get to work and do the will of the people.
It's actually funny. The RWNJs are talking about lies. Read the 2003 SOTU address. In it are mentioned numbers and types of non-existent WMDs.
The republicons are merely accusing others of what they themselves have been doing.

It is a false equivalency to equate the use of drones to kill enemy combatants to an invasion of a soveriegn nation and the use of torture on captured enemy combatants.
The Constitution does not give the President unlimited powers, but the office does includes the responsibility as Commander in Chief to direct our country's military actions.
Al-Qaida attacked America on 9/11 and killed many of our fellow citizens. They continue to plan and carry out attacks against us and our interests. In my mind a drone strike on an al-Qaida leader is not much different than shooting an enemy soldier on the battle field.
This struggle is different, al-Qaida does not represent a country or wear a uniform. Our tactics must change. Drone strikes accomplish our mission without endangering American lives, and they minimize the risk of killing innocent civilians.
You act like this is an unprecedented move on President Obama's part. Almost every president since Reagan has authorized the use of artillery, cruise missiles or other actions to retaliate against terrorism.
I trust our President to weigh the risks involved in capturing these leaders and make the right decision as our Commander-in-Chief, as we have trusted our previous presidents to order cruise missile strikes or other actions.
Ben -- Your post 1.52 crosses the line. Flagged!
It is YOU and people like you who give Republicans a BAD NAME.
You do your PARTY no favors. Hope the decent Republicans step forward
and call people like Ben and others out for the trash they spew.
After all the empty promises Obama fed us prior to and during his first administration I have little or no faith that anything he will tell us tonight will be any different. I don't know about anyone else but we keep listening to these guys, presidents, congressmen and bureaucrats in general, and still believe and re-elect them.
Hey Old Gal, how about you set the record straight then.
Are you or are you not on nearly every thread posted here at FIrst Read every day?
As I told your buddy DCIA, who cares?
See, one doesn't have to post here to know what is said here.
But you knew that, didn't you?
Proposing several initiatives at the same time dilutes the ability of the GOP to organize opposition. That has been Obama's strategy thus far, and I'd say it has worked out pretty well.
Again; I agree, but only to a point.
Let the GOP continue to obstruct. It is not going unnoticed. It is instead becoming their unraveling as a group. People across the country are backing away from the GOP because of their obstructionism.
I'd rather see the president and the democrats focusing on one thing at a time and if the GOP continues their same ol' same ol' of obstruction they will be seen as the demons of the political arena that they are. The media and the democrats will be able to laser focus on each and every matter that the GOP obstructs individually in that matter and the implosion of the GOP will continue until they may be a thing of the past.

but but but, that's different. its for the 'good fight'
SOTB. Yeah Liberal Success is quite the Oxymoron. unlike most of the far left che worshipping d-bags, where they are just MORONS
Rubio scares Fisty et al because he isnt wetback enough for the hypocrite racists that infest this blog.
And the Hillaryous part is, i get called a bigot....
What would give Republicans a good name in your view? to be more like Barrak 'Big Gov' Obama?
Ben I flagged it too, as SUCCESS...
Ben,
Dr. Benjamin Carson.
You can not ignore his personal story. You can not ignore his warnings. You can not ignore his vision.
I have watched a few of Dr. Carson interviews and was very impressed. I could not agree with you more, the man is very inspiring.
Strike THREE - you're OUT!
Not on your BEST day! lol
Sadly, for you, today isn't even close to being a good day!
You sure seem to? lol
You keep ripping your boss off to talk about it...

Dayum this is fun! ☺
Obama's Immigration reform - Reward people for breaking the law.
Obama's decision to allow US Citizens to be attacked by drones. Ignoring the 6th amendment.
Obama's complete disregard for the constitution - Recess Appointing board member when the senate is not in recess.
I could go on. But no doubt Feisty's head is about to explode before she starts calling me names.
White Collar Auto
More insight into the far right mindset. It's a fact that O'Reilly claimed that NBC and MSNBC were downplaying the drone story. It's a fact that an NBC journalist Michael Isikoff did the investagion. It's a fact that MSNBC host Rachel Maddow first broke the story before any other network. These facts exist in the real world independently of the web site from which Feisty Redhead referenced.
But WCA and other right wingers deny the facts because Huffington Post was ONE of the news sites reporting these facts. Like ostriches, they seem to think that if they stick their heads in the sand so that they can't see what's the outside world, it doesn't exist. I don't know if ostriches are really that stupid, but some right wingers obviously are that stupid.
How about you Old Gal?
You stealing from your boss or do you just live off your Old Man?
Ben -- Since when is it okay to make up a quote and falsely attribute it?
From the sound of the right wing mental midgets, they have found a Messiah they can call their own! lol
Trump Was Right Rove; he’s a ‘total loser’
Plus, Cheney had the audacity to say President Obama picks second rate people.
http://www.nbcnews.com/id/3036697/ns/msnbc-hardball_with_chris_matthews#50775081
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ain't that something coming from a 1st rate Frankenstein like Cheney?
Hey Houston, how many times have you denied a story that was from Fox News?
Ben - lotsanumbers:
Serious question. With your posts being as vile as they are and with you being the self-professed Christian that you are, would you point me to the teachings of your lord and savior that justifies such filth?
I think Mr. Obama is the worst president we have had in modern times, and by modern times I mean since LBJ. But, that said, this isn't his last chance to go big. It will be his last chance but only because he can't pivot like Mr. Clinton did, or do something large on the international stage like Mr. Nixon did. The political calculus works against Mr. Obama, thankfully, because after this political year passes little will be done in the next as all of Congress looks to be re-elected, and then after that election Mr. Obama is a lame duck in all respects. Even his political allies won't find much reason to carry his water at that point.
For the first several posters, particularly Backhouse, can you please stop telling us how our economy is poised for greatness, is about to unleash itself, is on the edge of creating millions and millions of jobs, is itching to recreate the middle class, and so on? You are LONG past the time that the Greek villagers quit responding to calls of "Wolf!" in any event.
And, worse for us all, you are without meaning to do so explaining how you enjoy and prefer the kind of involuntary servitude that government largesse delivers. I would argue that stealing from your future heirs in order to live beyond your means today is immoral, and yet you think it makes you wonderful and good. We could not be further apart.
Sameo, They are both focused on the economy. Unfortunately, while The President is trying to get the economy started, the GOPTP seem to only want to block, or at least delay any forward progress. It's too late for Mitch McConnell's promise to make Obama a one term President, so why not try to work for the voters in your states instead of licking the boots of the Koch brothers, who will toss you away when you're of no more use to them. I hear the phrase "The Republicans eat their own" often enough. Do you think they won't turn their hunger your way?
@Dont carry it all #1.58
Save the "faux outrage" for one of your liberal friends who attacks others, instead of comenting on the article. I have seen much, much worse from SeekingSaniity, Fiesty Redhead and Beverly from Chicago on a regular, ongoing basis ! Have you attempted to lay your condescending remarks upon them with equal fervor ??? Nah, I didn't think you would ... hypocrisy is thine !
Obama tonight is going to lay out a plan to help the middle class? He should, he cost us an average of $4,500.00 a person in median income. Wonder if he will mention that tonight? Wonder if MSNBC will mention how much the President cost the Middle-class. I wonder if they will mention how low Union membership has fallen under Obama. Doubt it. This will be a classic Obama diversion tonight, focus on the gun victims, who nothing will be done to help. And stay clear of any substance.
On another note, did anyone see Biden's remarks regarding the legitimacy of any media that does not agree with the administration's position on gun control?
Essentially, he is saying if you don't agree with us, you are illegitimate. If you interpret the constitution differently than we do, you are lying.
http://washingtonexaminer.com/biden-were-counting-on-legitimate-media-for-successful-gun-control-effort/article/2521184
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Dr. Benjamin Carson is a right wing nut as far as I'm concerned. Anytime anyone with a functional brain appears on Hannity he has to be a nut. Hannity has no substance whatsoever. Hannity doesnt know how to interview; neither does he inderstand the intellectuals who appear on his show. As much as I loathe Newt Gringrich, I have to give him him credit for braking down simple issues for Sean to understand whenever he is interviewed .
Hannity is a snake oil salesman.
@David Walker -- All I can say is I am human and I am a sinner -- as we all are. But thanks for watching. I never waste my time trying to explain who I am to people who are committed to misunderstanding me.
@Beverly -- HAHAHAHA. You gotta be kidding. At least Hannity has both right and left on his show on a daily basis -- more than you can say for that MSNBC pitiful crowd. Hell, Maddow, Schultz, ODonnell, Sharpton would have the guts to invite nor the intellectual capacity to debate such an accomplished individual that has contributed so much to society. Maybe you should have went to him as a child but it might not be too late . . . . . LMAO.
Dingle B.
Essentially, he is saying if you don't agree with us, you are illegitimate. If you interpret the constitution differently than we do, you are lying.
Are you quoting Biden of First Read, the similarities are stunning.
Feisty,
From the sound of the right wing mental midgets, they have found a Messiah they can call their own! lol.
So you do admit that you see Obama as your Messiah.
Bev,
Have you listen to the Doctor? Judging him on the shows he has been on is pretty shallow.
Feisty et al: Stepping on a nerve and offending people is your MO. You truly are a lib but it also exposes your underside of hatred, lack of intellectual honesty, and purposeful entry into the social media to try to hurt the honest citizens in this time when the seek honest solutions. You bring nothing of value to the table.
you expect that idiot to give you an honest answer... 10 to 1 says the buffoon puts you down in spite of your genuine question..
Bev the Racist being shallow? get outta town
But David on High has evolved beyond you puny humans..after all he pontificates it daily on FR. his evolved intellect and superiority. oh How LIBERAL LOL
This is going to be good. The Speaker of the House John Boehner just called the president "gutless" in facing his party on the big issues of this country. It's the president's sequester stupid libs and now nyou live with it.
When did I give you the impression I answer to you?
I give a @!$%# what YOU think... WHY?
Be gone troll, you have no power...
jim #'s -- The condescending hypocrisy comes from Ben. Just calling him out on it.
The haters are out in force today trying to pretend a majority of voters didn't just re-elect President Obama.
All your hate and lies did nothing for us before the election and I personally don't care to hear it now. All the republicans want to pretend there is no longer racism in America as they treat our president worst than any president in our history.
Republicans didn't care about America, they only cared about making the black man look bad by making him a one term president and they failed at that.
You know, why has only the black president been asked for his birth certificate? The republicans wanted that and his college records while telling us that Romney didn't even need to show his tax returns like all the other past presidential contenders.
If as a woman you want to remain a first class citizen, vote for any republican at your own peril.
Yep, go BIG....."I", "My" "Our" (Progressive), "My way or the highway".
Mr. Obama DOES NOT have a mandate, 49% of Americans said so.
Let's wait and see what Mr. Obama really has to say, then he will do the complete opposite.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Obama campaign BUCKS are out. The Hillary posters "War against Women" will be on sale at the SOTU speech doors.
The reality in this country at least for the time being, is that liberals are a far bigger problem then conservatives. Why? Simple, liberals accept excuses. Liberals are willing to blame, to insult, and to hide behind race. When liberals stop accepting excuses, the excuses will stop. When liberals stop justifying actions with blame, only today and tomorrow will matter. When liberals can begin to discuss rationally and with respect solutions to our nations problems, there will be no need to continually play the race card or toss out insults. Unfortunately today both political parties are owned and beholden to special interest groups, and that is the real problem obstructing progress. The fact that both parties do it does not excuse it. There has to come a time when people that go to Washington rise above the greed of all special interest groups, and begin to work for the good of the nation again. ObamaCare was loaded with special interest handouts. The TracPhone deal a handout. The stimulus loaded with handouts. We no longer get legislation that is solely designed and written to best help the nation. Obama campaigned in 2008 as that person who would rise above, too bad liberals didn't hold him to it.
@DCIA -- To quote your queen of the left -- Fiesty.
'Cause I'm still here. :-)
Oh, he'll go big alright. Big spending, big welfare, big government, big talk.
All of you libs cannot discount that exit polling followup demonstrated that the typical Oblama voter had an IQ 28 points less than the Romney voters.
Truth is a bitch.
Now that's funny coming from a man who has spent two decades collecting a government paycheck while avoiding doing the hard work required to fix many of the long standing problems we face.
Well Old Gal, you just can't seem to leave me alone.
Didn't think you would answer the question.
Honesty ain't your style.
Nuthin but a Keyboard Warrior are you.
Most likely drunk all of the time, living off your Old Man.
Feisty:
Feisty: "You bring nothing of value to the table.
I give a @!$%# what YOU think... WHY?
Be gone troll, you have no power..."
I am more interested in intellect, honesty, fairness, love, compassion, and the wealfare of the Nation and her citizens...not power. And you?
Certainly hope for your local community's safety and well-being that you are not a gun owner (your testerone shots do not count).
Yo, Bozobrained Ben, don't lump "all" of us into your pathetic excuse of existence. You want to label yourself a sinner, by all means, have at it. But don't include me in the circle jerk of sin your so sinfully enjoy.
Oh, and so is The Plague, but it doesn't stop us from fighting off the Black Death.
whats the color of his skin have to do with anything? do you libtards who are true racists believe that if you call everyone a racist outside of the liberal intolerant world makes it true? of course you do. Guess what, Obama didnt show his college records and Romney didnt provide his tax records...WASH..BFD...
more idiotic attempt at divisive dialog, the better question is to why? You guys talk as if Obama is a great uniter yet his followers contradict.
Feisty sounds an awful lot like my 11 year old, very stubborn with a limited and narrow view of reality and the world at large. I sure hope they both grow out of it. All the back and forth without really saying anything. In the end, pretty much everything that comes out of their mouths is the equivalent of a "talk to the hand" type rebuttal or a "Why should I care". The world is made up of people that you at some point will need to interact with whether you want to or not. Her inability to converse with individuals that don't carry the same views as her is quite telling. I wager that she lives mostly an online/sheltered life based on your attitude or you are very young. My 11 year old has time to grow out of this.....Feisty, well I don't really know but I hope so....for her sake.
Ben -- You're a shining example of what's wrong with Republicans today. Carry on.
Gee, I hope his "big" speech on the economy addresses the negative GDP growth, the $3.75 gasoline, and the actual unemployment rate of +10% that he's accomplished in his first four years. Actually, I'd like him to explain what voodoo mojo he uses to induce the lemmings who ardently support his abysmal economic failure, and proclaim that things are improving, despite the statistics (that don't lie) which demonstrate how bad things are!
Are you kidding me - Last Chance?????? Whatever happened to the past does not equal the future??
Holy Moly!
RedDev is without sin?
Wow.
Well that explains her and the rest of her buddies posts here.
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
No wonder they think their comments here are OK, they have no morals or values.
spider-737231: Actually, I would like him to talk to the true unemployment rate (well above your quoted 10+ percent), actual vision for America re Islam, and why his staff stumbles over Benghazi facts.
Ben, you're right. Hannity does have progressive people on. Just ask his former co host Alan Colmes. So does Bill O Reilly. Not that either one of them ever lets one of their guests get a point across. They use their bully pulpit to try to minimize their "guests", shouting them down if they threaten to make a good point. You complain that liberals never interview conservatives, but Jon Stewart has had guests ranging from Barack Obama to Grover Norquist and Bill O'Reilly. Bill Maher, as much as righties hate him, nearly always has at least one conservative guest on his panels.
Such a relief to know that the UN Security Counsel is holding an emergency meeting regarding North Korea. Lemme guess - they are going to CONDEMN the nuclear test. This really puts my mind at ease, and I'm sure will leave Kim Jong Un quaking in his boots.
Just another impotent reaction by an administration who has spent the last 4+ years emboldening our enemies. Muslim Brotherhood... Iran... North korea... not to mention the Benghazi debacle. At least I can sleep at night knowing that I didn't vote for our Socialist-in-Chief.
Make sure that all you Obama supporters tune in to your favorite news channel tonight. As indicated in this article, Chuck Todd and the entire gang, including the biggest supporter of all, Brian Williams are preparing to cheer you on with whatever action Obama will try this time, to improve the economy that thus far has eluded his ability.
We trust that those bad guys (GOP) as well as Rubio will not object to his idea of more and more spending which I'm sure will be the main objective.
As far as the economic particulars in the president’s speech tonight, we can report that all of his initiatives will fall into three categories to answer three different questions. One, how can the United States create more jobs at home? Two, how does the country get its citizens the skills they need for these jobs? And three, how does the nation help those who are working hard to make a decent living?
Hell, I can answer all three of these questions. One --- he doesn't know. Two --- he's not sure. And three --- throw more money at it. It's as simple as that. Now I'm sure Roselle and Bev will come on with their usual insults. No facts, just insults. And the little piggie will come on blathereing about how wonderful everything is and now he needs to concentrate on "social change". You can read that as "I need more money" But the truth is in the article this is his last big chance to spend more money. They list what he wants to accomplish but not how he's going to pay for it. I've seen a lot of talk about revenue enhancements but the talk about cuts is slowly fading into the distance. Oh wait, I'm sorry! That's for the NEXT administration to figure out. Sorry, my bad. With any luck at all people will wake up and the next administration will be Republican.
White Collar Auto
Never. I've never denied something just because it was from Fox News. I deny stories about Obama's $250 million a day foreign trips, skewed polls and the the Great Romney Landslide because they're preposterous.
Duck WCA - here comes a stone. Get back to me when you figure out the difference between philosophical concepts of morals and ethics vs. theological concepts of sin.
Obama will no doubt spend a significant amount of time pushing his gun control agenda. He'll insist it will prevent or at least reduce the number of Newtown type shootings. Such shootings are already extremely rare and his reference to them only serves to obfuscate his true agenda, that being a long held desire to disarm the American people.
In fact, such shootings have absolutely nothing to do with his anti-gun agenda except to serve as a cover premise, and let's not overlook his propensity for trotting out a couple of gun victims for the sympathy factor.
Historically, there has never been a socialist government that allows their people to be armed. In this, Obama is no different.
Finally, Obama is not without accomplishment. He has succeeded in creating a schism in this country that can never be repaired.
Are Ben and SickOTB gay butt buddies? Sure sounds like it. Gross. Nothing's worse then finding out that the straight man was really a bone smuggling fraud.
The right criticizes and whines about the economy, complains President Obama hasn't focused on it, etc. Yet President Obama has been focused on the economy the past four years. The criticism should be aimed at the GOP who trashed the economy once more only this time with near depression results under Bush 43. Then those same GOPers sat on their collective rear ends and did nothing except complain President Obama wasn't fixing their mess fast enough. What did the GOPers do in 2010, they promised voters "jobs, jobs, jobs", we're the party to create jobs then when voters said, okay, you get the House back, the House GOPers then proceeded to pass legislation which restricted women's rights to choose, personhood amendments, 33 bills to repeal ObamaCare, and not one Job-creating piece of legislation--they refused to vote on any jobs bills while yelling about jobs.
8 Reasons Rubio Is Not 'The Republican Savior'
Eight Reasons Why Marco Rubio Is Not 'The Republican Savior'
1. Refused to raise the debt ceiling
2. Co-sponsored and voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment.
3. Signed the Norquist pledge
4. Backed Florida's voter purge
5. Doesn't believe in climate change.
6. Opposed federal action to help prevent violence against women.
7. Believes employers should be able to deny birth control to their employees.
8. Recorded robo calls for anti-gay hate group.

Yup, it's clear Rubio, the Tea Suckers, and the GOP need "DIVINE INTERVENTION". Rubio is acting like the devil.
Que is muy,muy,muy, malo!!!
666
Beaverlie.......take a midol, adjust your string........and learn Spanish for GOD's sake pendeja...!!
Um, Bev --- Reason # 1 and # 2 should be reasons to make him president RIGHT NOW. Unless of course you want more debt and wouldn't like a balanced budget. I thought one of your gods, sorry, heroes was Clinton and all we heard was how he balanced the budget. (Creative bookkeeping but what the heck) Now you don't want a balanced budget. I find it amusing that Republicans will at least TALK about a balanced budget but you will never find a democrat who will even mention it. I wonder why that is?
Bev - After what the Democrats did to your city, Don't you think another voice would help?
What will Obama say in the State of the Union Address?
Nothing that he hasn't promised or lack of work on for the last 4 1/2 years----the same old, the same old, promises, promises, giving the poor the deluxe Smart Phones so they can find a job---playing games, so they can't find jobs--Santa Claus for the idignant, and the people who are not motivated to do anything.
Obama is motivated by the perks of the White House being the President. What has been actually accomplished in the 4 1/2 years? NADA. A Second Oval Office is being constructed under his Direction so it is more suitable for he to get work done---more $$$ It Started in 2010 renovations of the WH, yet he needs another Oval Office--
Gun Control--Impossible--the crazies will find a way, appeasing works, until the appeasement never appears or is put into action.
Stop Spending by putting the problem on the citizens of the US--Tax them to death.
Backhouse and the rest of the Obama supporters,
I challenge you to show that you care about the US not just about party. Tim Cook the head of Apple will be sitting with the first lady tonight. Apple had $82 Billion outside the US because they do not want to pay US taxes, they outsource all of their manufacturing. Why is he being honored, hold the President to the same standards and morals that you accused Romney of? Apple paid less than 10% in tax. You blasted Romney for paying 13%, so again I challenge you to stand up for the US and ask the President not to honor this man and this company
I see red head got her head out of Obama's butt long enough to get some air and make a stupid comment. Feisty put your head back where it belongs up Obama's butt you are so much better to look at that way.
Obama thinks he is God and most democrats agree. That is why they don't question any of his plans. Real people can see that he has a lot of mistakes that the liberal media keeps ignoring. Too many democrats will use name-calling to make their point across because they still act like children.
It's true that Obama doesn't know what he is doing. Putting things off till later will make him look good, but then people will just blame the next President who comes into power. No doubt it will fall to whoever is the next Republican President. ( Democrats don't like to blame themselves)
There are too many democrats in office, and it keeps the country divided. All of them are greedy, from your minority groups to the special interest groups you have that you suck the country dry. Those that are independent are the ones you hurt the most..... We don't ask help from the govt. , so you think it is right to tax us even more. Nobody said you were elected for your brains, ( but rather for your skin color). And nobody but another minority( which I am) would have the guts to say this to your face.
Democrats in office also make up the top 1%. And none of them were willing to bail out the "Hostess Company" when their unions went on strike. Which shows you that they don't care about companies staying in the US. They always think it is the republicans job, to keep businesses here, and no one else's.
Too many liberals have a " me, me " mindset which explains why with all the problems start with democrats in control.
I agree with this, Feisty is merely an extremely arrogant woman so full of herself she is clueless.
I see Feisty is still smarting from yesterday's delete. If that post you put up today was a copy of yesterday's post.... you certainly deserve what you got.
I, for one, have no plans to hear yet another offensive Obama speech. My BS-O-Meter cannot be set high enough to keep from blowing a gasket during his "speeches." The best thing he could do for America is to stop everything he's trying to do. We are America and we would like to REMAIN America, not some third world country. The 51% who let their vote be "bought" in the last election need to wake up before the payment for their vote evaporates.
HEY BARRACK, IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course instead of dealing with the issues that will put our great Republic back on a path to prosperity for all this SOTU address will just be another embarrassment. The never-ending Barrack Hussein campaign will just continue with no substance.
This is the time Barrack Hussein has to pay all his cronies back for reelecting him, whether it helps the nation or not. This last election cost over $6 billion dollars nationwide. As the saying goes, “Payback’s are a bitch”.
As is typical, the Liberals/Progressives will haul out all their bleeding-heart causes and just pay lip service to the systemic defects our nation suffers from. Stripping more rights from legal responsible Americans who own guns in the name of alleged government safety. Pandering to the electorate to allow 20 million illegal aliens amnesty while 23 million Americans remain under/unemployed. Sprinkling glitter will help Barrack further “evolve” his position on GLBT. Social issues will be used to deflect the illiterate American people from the real issues that Barrack Hussein has no intention of fixing, because he doesn’t know how.
The Statist-in-Chief will promote more of his social and economic justice nonsense and throw more “Bread and Circuses” out to the unwashed masses. He will spin the usual Keynesian nonsense as revenue (tax) and investment (spend) which is just more Washington double-speak for growing government. We will be awed with all the wonderful things that government will do even though they have all been tried and have failed.
Job creation will be hailed even though those created continue to be of the low-wage/low-no benefit variety. Our debt will be ignored even though it’s expected to skyrocket past $20 trillion in the next 4 years. The stock market will be applauded although it is simply being artificially propped up by the Federal Reserve inflating our currency to the tune of $85 billion a month in monetary malfeasance. Growth is at a pathetic -0.1%. We are on schedule to create another $600 billion trade deficit. Consumer confidence is at historic lows and manufacturing continues to struggle. But of course D.C. and the surrounding Virginia suburbs are prospering beyond belief as government corruption grows under Barrack Hussein.
None of our systemic defects will be aggressively addressed. Trade reform has been forgotten. Tax reform will be promoted as some convoluted revenue enhancement by manipulating unknown and unexplained loopholes. Regulations will not only be ignored they will be promoted to reassure us of how government is only here to help us. Unions will not be addressed to work with business instead of against them to promote expansion of our industrial base. The billions unions have given to politicians over the past years need to be repaid. Our energy policy will continue to sputter as the emphasis will again be on the wet-dream of government subsidized alternative energy that will never work.
The biggest systemic defect is actually our biggest embarrassment. Education will be promised more money which has been the solution for 30 years and our children will continue to be competitive on the global stage in the 21st century. More bureaucracy and less education will, as usual, be the solution.
Our foreign policy will continue to be an embarrassment to everyone in the world except the useful idiots on the Left. The Middle East is in constant turmoil. Iran laughs at our “sanctions “as they only affect the people and the government continues its nuclear weapon expansion. North Korea detonates another nuclear weapon creating more turmoil in Asia. The European Union continues to wallow in its own self-imposed “lost decade” as they refuse to launch the austerity measures necessary to correct their nanny-state mentality. The same mentality that Barrack Hussein is dragging our Republic down.
Symbolism over substance will reign supreme. The promises of “focusing like a laser” will be repeated and believed as Americans only have a mental retention span of a few seconds. The benevolence of government will be promoted and the real issues will be glossed over as usual.
To add injury to insult the limp-wristed Libbies will parade Gabby Giffords, Hidaya Pendletons mother and other "symbolic" personna to tug at the heart strings of the American people as we are governed by emotions rather than policy. Liberals have no shame when it comes to promoting their irrational "Life of Julia" existence.
Remember, the private sector is doing fine. The problem is the Beltway is doing even better.
God Bless and save America, it may be our only real hope and change.
Backhouse,
You claim that we poised for the strongest recovery of the wealthy industrial nations, can you please cite your source for this because I can give you a very long list of countries growing much faster than us starting with the BRIC countries, Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
I just love how the progressive/liberals like to dwell in the past (right backhouse?) on wanting to place blame on such a weak economy on bush2 and republicans in general. LOL, their silliness has been rebutted a myriad of times and by the editors themselves in the 3 examples they gave above about 2nd term "big" achievements by reagan, clinton and bush2. Interesting that only reagan acheived a working relation with o'neil to get the 1986 tax reform act done (even though the spending cuts never did materialize from congress. Interesting that obama likes to reference reagans abilities as well.
Interesting also is that obama thinks he can be as effective as reagan was as well. To bad mr POTUS obama, reagan accomplished more than just a bipartisan solution to tax reform and SS reform, he also created a true atmosphere of American unity after the malaise of the 70's and helped steer us out of the '82 recession. Yet all we hear from obama supporters and obama himself is that it was always someone elses fault.
Tonight, it will be interesting to see if obama is more interested in blaming others or in trying to create unity within our nation.
--------------------------------------------------------------
As for the importance of addressing our economic issues as stated by the FR editors...
Hmmm... doesn't the WH already postulate on the growth of private sector jobs? For more growth perhaps obama should take a page from the reagan/o'neil legisltion that reduced the regulatory burdens on businesses and tax reform. Reform that favored the individual (regardless of income) at the expense of business taxes. Unfortunately for many in the middle class, 11 years of the bush2/obama tax cuts is meaningless for stimulas as the cuts were long ago normalized into everyones spending patterns.
Ah, the skill set dilema... Throwing more $$$ research and at educational spending or scholorships is all long term and our current education system just eats up taxpayer $$$ with little to show on behalf of the student. Seems that we need education reform as well. Perhaps obama really needs to get the corporate and small business world involved more for apprentice type training whether for blue or white collar jobs.
Decent wages... Oh come on, labor costs are the biggest portion of a businesses cost and the biggest driver of what business can charge its end customers (if it doesn't have a significant "brand" footprint). With todays bank capital requirements, perhaps the consumer needs to pay closer attention to what they really need and can afford, rather than what advertisers and other exogenous promoters say they need to have. Back in the 60's it was called keeping up with the jones'. My biggest income gains came from learning new skills and if my current employer wouldn't increase my pay, I took my skill sets elsewhere and/or supplimented my income elsewhere.
In a recent op ed piece in the Sunday des Moines Register a syndicated editor submitted that what we needed were more unions. Really? Did he hope that wages would rise faster than what the manufacturer could sell the product for?
Recently on bloombergTV one program segment interviewd a guy by the name of "laffer" back in the 80's I thought the Laffer curve was merely a joke, but like my university "optimization" computer classwork has shown, there is a "sweet spot" to optimize results. IE a business can charge a lot for their product and lose sales because of decreased volume or charge to little to gain volume. but still lose, All because costs were not optimized to the selling price.
Obama can talk all he wants about a grand bargain, but right now it is unlikely to happen, he spent his political capital on raising tax rates for the wealthy in january.
Why you ask? Simply because he has added to much to the agenda to be done "right away" He just can't remain focused and prioritise. You know, like any effective executive can do. Obamacare was pushed through and at the end of this year and into next I expect many to be disappointed. Financial reform was pushed through, but still isn't fully implimented and even when it is the left made it "one size fits all". The hell with local and regional banks.
As for immigration reform, we best also address border security as well. Think of it this way, you are out on a lake with your sweety and hit a submerged log. Hmmm, the hole is pretty big, but you know you have a bucket to bail with. As you start to bail you realize that the buckets bottom also has a big hole.
Fiesty FISHSMELL Redhead, Go wash your pussy, you smell worse than a dumbfux liberal as usual. Wouldn't it me nice to meet your dumba## in person to see your fiestyness (lmfao) in person. You POS
Backhouse
First you say this:
And then you complain this:
When the reality is that Apple admits to 230,000 jobs in China. These workers are subjected to long hours, coerced overtime, improperly disposed of hazardous waste, falsified records and harsh working conditions at the plants that build the bulk of iPhones, iPads, Macs and other Apple products. More than half of the factories had violated at least one of the company’s codes of conduct and in some instances violated the law. Last year, two explosions at iPad factories killed four people and injured 77. Apples total overseas presence including contractors is estimated to be over 700,000 jobs.
But Apple is glamorized as an American company, right?
You limp-wristed Libbies demonize the Koch brothers who have given billions to charities and foundations, even (GASP!!!!!) PBS! Yet you never demonize George Soros for his criminal activities, none less than bringing whole currencies down causing international chaos and hardship. But that’s OK because he is a prolific contributor to Barrack Hussein, right?
Your typical Liberal/Progressive hypocrisy is laughable.
Which is due to the massive infusion of money into the economy. The $860 billion $timulu$ and the $430 billion Porkulus bill followed by the nearly $3 trillion the Federal Reserve has expanded its balance sheet with QE1, QE2, QE3 and now it’s adding $85 billion EVERY MONTH under the guise of a mythical “Twist” between short and long term securities.
Where do you think all this money is going? It certainly isn’t going into the private sector labor force as earnings are down by over $4,000 over the past 4 years.
The Fed doesn’t expand the money supply by throwing cash from helicopters over the helpless masses, instead it transfers capital to the largest banks, lowers their borrowing costs and lowers their reserve requirements. Where does this redistribution go first? It goes to the financial elite and then they hope the banks will send it into the markets, raising demand and prices. The Fed is transferring enormous amounts of wealth from the middle class, as we are ultimately responsible to repay this, to the most affluent. This redistribution has been far worse a source of disparity than your and Barrack Husseins tax unfairness, yet you all allow it.
So, other than the banks, who will benefit from all this money? Corporations, even as they sit on mountains of money. They buy new factories abroad and new labor-replacing software at home. Mergers and acquisitions will be added to the benefits of the expansion of our money supply thanks to the Fed. As the bank of England plans to unleash a new round of QE the new money will increase share prices without affecting wages. As we have seen for the last 20 years, real wages have fallen in both the US and UK where QE, or similar monetary manipulations, have been used to boost growth. In Germany, where there has been no stimulus, QE and interest manipulation, real wages have risen. Japan used QE, or its version of cheaper money, 20 years ago and no significant effect on aggregate demand occurred. We have seen Japans economy sputtering since. Of course the Keynesians argue that the fiscal and monetary stimulus during their bust was too slow and not big enough. The Japanese, along with the IMF’s study of 124 bank crises, instead believe that their policy was not cleaning up their banks.
So now the Fed has added a third mandate to its charter:
-Full employment
-Low and stable inflation
-Higher equity valuation
Quantitative easing is supposed to produce stronger economic growth and lower unemployment, so far QE1 and QE2 have worked wonders on the stock market but their impact on GDP and jobs has been abysmal. The fed even admits its last blast of bond purchases was to drive up Wall Street, obviously because it failed so badly to achieve its purpose of bringing borrowing costs down. The inflation of the dollar has also had the unintended consequence of increasing food and fuel prices. Over the past 2 years the Fed has printed and debased our currency by more than 100%. Their balance sheet has exploded from $800 billion to over $3 trillion. QE3 and the “Twist” will potentially put us over the edge as prices skyrocket even more.
As the Fed sees the world as bank-centric this sums up one of its many problems. This is similar to the tenet, “when the only tool in your tool box is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” What complicates this is that when the hammer does work, they never reach the conclusion that the reason it didn’t work is because the problem wasn’t a nail, no, the conclusion is always the hammer wasn’t big enough.
This is the typical Keynesian nonsense that every $timulu$ that fails is because it wasn’t big enough.
As long as we continue with the structural defects in our economy no amount of fiscal or monetary heroics will help. And all this time you guys didn’t think Obama and the Democrats love the banks.
Surprise!
If you like I can take apart the rest of your foolish post but I’ll save you what little pride you have by continuously submitting yourself to a government that not only doesn’t know you it doesn’t want to know you. All it wants is more of your hard earned money to indoctrinate in you that the best you can ever be is middle class.
As much as our government wants our tax dollars, that is where their interests end also.
The only thing going big tonight will be in Chris Mathews pants.
And I am sure Obama will spew plenty of propaganda, and lies as a pretext for his tyranny. And his mindless drooling ass lickers like Bev, Feisty, et. al. will be on their knees swallowing as usual.
Wow. Beverly in Chicago -
Coming from the most violent city on the country that has the toughest gun laws; highest crime rate because of the drug trafficking and corrupt local government? Not much room to talk about the state of the right. Statistics show that most of the people behind the crimes voted democrat. You should be proud. The sooner you Obama followers can wipe the drool off of your chin and clear up your glassy eyed vision, this country might get into a place of healing and unity. It's attitudes like yours that perpetuates the divisiveness in this country.
Ted Nugent has every right to attend the SOTU address tonight as he was personally invited by a Texas congressman. Rumor has it that he is being seated directly in front of Obama so he can clearly be seen. It is only right and fair that both sides are represented.
"8 Reasons Rubio Is Not 'The Republican Savior'
1. Refused to raise the debt ceiling - This is a bad thing? The debt ceiling is 4 times higher than it should be. Obama is all about spend spend, when if he were a republican, you guys would be the ones screaming. Don't deny it.
2. Co-sponsored and voted for a Balanced Budget Amendment. - First time EVER a president has not had or presented a balanced budget in his first term; now he is working on a second. That's against the law, did you know that?
3. Signed the Norquist pledge - This bill was the Taxpayer Protection Plan. California needs this right now as they are paying 62 cents on the dollar to their state and the state is still broke. Never a bad thing to have checks and balances FOR the taxpayer.
4. Backed Florida's voter purge - Half the people voting are dead. It needs to be cleaned up
5. Doesn't believe in climate change. Gore made a lot of money off of this. Polar Bear population has almost doubled from 20 years ago. Gore can't explain it.
6. Opposed federal action to help prevent violence against women. "I voted no because I believe the Cornyn amendment, which I voted for, is better policy. I supported the Cornyn amendment because it addresses rape kit backlogs, tightens mandatory federal sentences for crimes against women and children, imposes a 15-year minimum sentence in crimes where domestic violence leads to death and imposes a 10-year minimum sentence in rape convictions. In addition, it creates a database for investigating sex offenders, including DNA databases to assist law enforcement. And finally, it contains a Sense of Congress provision calling on Backpage.com to take down its adult services section, which has become a facilitator for sex trafficking"
7. Believes employers should be able to deny birth control to their employees. - Not the employers responsibility to provide birth control, that is the insurance carriers job. Gov't again, is breaking the law by making health insurance mandatory. You don't care about that?
8. Recorded robo calls for anti-gay hate group. "Rubio, a Roman Catholic, went on the record about his opposition to same-sex marriage." I am for traditional marriage, but I am not anti-gay. I know I will get a lot of backlash from this statement, but everyone is entitled to their beliefs. Rubio was protecting his religious beliefs and the left is making that a crime?
The left is not perfect and neither is the right. It's time to knock off the bull $%#@ and come together as a country to work out the problems. Obama promised that in his campaign in 2008 and has proven to be the biggest divider we've ever seen.
Don't be part of the problem, Beverly, be part of the solution. A good place to start might be within your own city walls.
More of them same 4 more years of vary slow growth.
In the US 2nd Amendment rights are being attacked due to a few thousand deaths at the hands of a few wackos. Meanwhile, Mr. Obama intends upon starving 10s of 1000s of NKs and Iranians to death because he is unable to get a few wackos to give up their nuclear weapons.
Of course, neither move will result in disarming the wackos. Why does Mr. Obama insist upon taking away the rights and lives of innocent law abiding individuals in order to send ineffective messages to wackos?
Like going for the knockout punch to the economy and the US way of life?
NICELY REGURGITATED Huffington Post and MEDIA MATTERS Puking Points.
And who is it that supports those socialist organizations? None other than the convicted Nazi Collaborator, George Soros. Notice how inconvenient facts such as that one is ALWAYS buried by the national press, and of course his compatriots known as the Democratic Party.
So why is it that we hear almost nothing from supporters of the leftists other than give me this and don't take away my that and "They" can afford to pay for my... Could it be that the socialist message has taken root in this nation. If so, it is a sad day and begs for a new revolution to throw off the shackles of tyranny and begin anew.
Those of us who have level heads should DEMAND a constitutional convention be convenient by our States. Congress does not need to be involved at all. That is a lie by Congress to try to hold on to Power. The only way to return to a constitutional republic is to reign in the power and scope of the Federal government with clear and concise language that prohibits the "interpretation" of the constitution.
What the constitution says, is what it means. It is NOT open to interpretation, that too is a lie. If you want the constitution to provide a power to the government, other than those enumerated in that fine document, the process given to do that is to amend it, not interpret it.
It is clear however that what Obama will call for is more socialist spending, policies and failed ideas. He has not one clue about how to fix the economy and that will be clear when he speaks, much as it is evident by his FAILURE to address the problems for the past 4 years. His only idea will be; What I tried already didn't work, so lets do it again and again until it does. Reminds me of the definition of the word insanity. Keep trying what didn't work expecting a different result.
What many here can not answer is this; name ONE nation where socialism has worked and brought prosperity? When that happens, I may change my outlook for this nation but for now, it is a grim and bleak future facing us for at least another 4 years, best get used to it and stop whining for more freebies, because nothing is free in this life, including freedom.
4bigbucksfl
There is not one state, nation, country or civilization where socialism or communism has worked. But what is HAS done is given those at the top all the power and money. A much bigger division of classes than we have right now. At least now we all have the right and freedom to dream the American dream, and to achieve it with hard work.
Krissy519
A mixture of socialist policies and capitalism has worked quite well in many countries, including this one. Pure socialism doesn't work, and unrestrained anything-goes capitalism doesn't work, either, as G. W. Bush proved quite well.
Why would anyone consider anything Obama says is relevant? He is by far the worse President ever elected to office. One must assume that more people disliked Romney than did support Obama unless the stupid people are running our country. Obama is to blame for the current economic stress that we are involved in right now. He has been in office for four years and the economy is no better today than it was when he first took office. Obama has implemented many policies that run contrary to the purpose of government as spelled out in our Constitution. He has become the "killer-in-chief" without regard to justice or fairness. History will not be kind to Obama, and neither should we!
Houston, that may be true. My comment didn't say anything about the mix with capitalism.
obama has had too many chances... with free passes from the media and still has not gotten anything right.
the only thing he is good at is building crushing debt that my grandchildren will not be able to pay off.
obamacare will be a joke when the libs ask how we will pay for it..........tax the rich, tax the middle class, and tax the class that does not pay anything......
WHAT IS WITH THE NO YELLING auto lower case on the vine now????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
As Obama is speaking tonight - keep this in mind
You can't spell liberal without a lie - priceless
The truth repellent - The Liberal Democrat - remember as he's spinning his tale - No Budget from him in his 5th year as president - never before
I hope he follows through tomorrow...IF..he is promising to restore my income UP to what it was before he was president...IF he is going to restore the value of my house UP $111,000.00 to what it was before he was president...IF he is going to restore my taxes DOWN to what they were before he was president. OR is he going to just say the things the liberals want to hear and then do nothing to help the middle class as he has down for 4 years. Is he going to tell us why he went to Minnestoa to talk about guns on the day his budget BY LAW was due and still has not done it?
OBAMA . . . will go down in History as the WORST PRESIDENT EVER!!!! Why did he win? Because the coolaid drinkers drank the bullS#### that he was selling. And 53 to 47%?? you think that makes it ok for him to ignore the 47% and ram his liberal crap down everyone's throats? He doesn't even know how to work with anyone that doesn't agree with him.
Remember when he said his tax plan would NOT affect the middle class? I am paying $122.00 per month MORE TAXES EVERY MONTH. I am considered middle class . . . a teacher. MORE of his BULLS###!
WAKE UP AMERICA before it is too late.
Oh ya, The first post on this thread was full of lies and deceptive. Get educated instead of acting educated!!
Wow! Go Big?
Lessee, TRASH Senator Rubio IN ADVANCE, since conservatives who are other than lilly-white SINK the Marxist narrative that ALL MINORITIES must vote Demmunist. Can't let them remember Alberto Gonzalez, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Mia Love, Alan West, and many of my Black and Hispanic colleagues who are actually making something of themselves, having escaped the Demmunist Plantation.
Villainize the white majority and dehumanize them, so that when their liberty and property are STOLEN from them by the lawless, unaccountable Federal Government, others will be tempted to stand by and be silent. "Just desserts, serves 'em right!" etc., except when they come for YOUR liberty and property next...
Dehumanize and disarm gun owners so they have no defense against thugs invading their houses, or against agents of various "three letter agencies" who have come to deprive them of LIFE, liberty and property, "officials eating out our substance..." [see grievances section of the Declaration]. So why did BHO want in 2009 to have a federal "civilian force as large and as well funded and as prepared as the military..."? Why is DHS stockpiling BILLIONS of hollow-point rounds which, by law, can only be used in America ON AMERICANS?
Declare all opposition to the dictates of the Dear Leader to be illegal, punishable by fines, imprisonment or death...
So, it wasn't enough to win re-election. Now they have to "Organize for Action" along with the SEIU and Organized Labor to out-maneuver or eliminate ANY opposition, now armed with your private information. Haven't we seen something like this before? 1933 Germany when the Brownshirts started busting heads, busting windows and burning books for the Supreme Chancellor? Zeig, HEIL!! Zeig, HEIL!!!
When will they come knocking on YOUR door? Will it be 3 am?
Go Big? Let's just declare the Dear Leader President-for-Life, nullify the Constitution, and complete the Marxist Coup already in progress.
King K - Your giving Chris Mathews to much credit.
I'm taking your money. (So I can pay off campaign contributors and keep more people on the dole.)
I'm restricting your Constitution guaranteed rights.
I'm making your health care affordable. (Too bad millions will no longer be able to afford a plan.)
I'm doing this because it will strengthen the Middle Class. (The Great Lie.)
Signed: President Obama, (The man who has no clue what Fiscal responsibility is and how it will make America strong.)
You sir are an unbelievable hypocrite if you are willing to attack Ben for his 'vile' comments and then turn around and compliment Feisty and Bev on theirs.
You're obviously just another mindless drone stroking the liberal loons that run this site.
Pathetic!
The problem runs a lot deeper than Ted Nugent
Posted by Greg Sargent
Lots of chatter about the news that GOP Rep. Steve Stockman, who threatened Obama with impeachment over guns, has invited Ted Nugent to the State of the Union address. Nugent has accepted:
“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” Stockman said in a press release. “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”
That’s a good bet; apparently Stockman is encouraging reporters to interview Nugent after the speech. Nugent, of course, is best known for making this claim, which was investigated by the Secret Service:
“If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year,” Nugent said, according to a video that the NRA posted on YouTube. “If you can’t go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don’t even know what you’re made out of.”
But really, this episode is significant for reasons that go well beyond Nugent. The key actor here who matters is Steve Stockman. The problem lies in all the over-the-top stuff GOP lawmakers say regularly that isn’t quite crazy enough to earn widespread condemnation, as Nugent’s quotes have, but are still whacked out enough to encourage an atmosphere that helps keep millions of GOP base voters sealed off from reality. The problem is the perpetual winking and nodding to The Crazy that is deemed marginally acceptable – the hints about creeping socialism, the claim that modest Obama executive actions amount to tyranny, the suggestions that Obama’s values are vaguely un-American and that Obama is transforming the country and the economy into something no longer recognizably American, and so on — more so than the glaringly awful stuff that gets the media refs to throw their flags.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2013/02/11/the-problem-runs-a-lot-deeper-than-ted-nugent/?hpid=z4
One of our readers sent me a copy of an extract of Nugent’s Selective Service records, obtained via a FOIA request (copy below). As you can see, Nugent received student deferments in 1967 (1-S) and 1968 (2-S). But according to the Internet Movie Data Base website, Nugent has been “performing professionally since 1958, non-stop yearly touring since 1967, averaging more than 300 shows per year '67-73.” Hmm, that would include the two years he was supposedly too wrapped up in his studies to be serving his country.
But that hasn’t stopped Nugent from insisting that if he HAD served, he would have been one big mofo soldier. As the Rutland Herald reported, Here's what Nugent said he would have done if he went to Vietnam:
"… if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd kill all the hippies in the foxholes … I would have killed everybody," he told the Detroit Free Press in an interview published July 15, 1990."
The Herald also noted that Nugent’s efforts to avoid the draft make President Bush look like a war hero.
(Nugent claims) that 30 days before his Draft Board Physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last 10 days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and a week before his physical, he stopped using the bathroom altogether, virtually living inside his pants caked with excrement and urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment.

Ted Nugent is neither a Patriot, Honorable nor anything approaching a Gentleman. He is a Craven Coward. He is without a doubt one of the Sorriest Spectacles of a Human Being that the Man Upstairs made a mistake on in the creation of and forgot to throw it in the Trash Can.
He has not by action or word over the years of his sorry existence won or earned the right to be even in the same city where men of Honor and Integrity gather.
I can only conclude by your actions here that as bad a Low Life as Ted Nugent is you must be worse. Do you not realize that by your words and deeds here that you have Dishonored every Veteran in Texas as well as yourself?
Inviting Nugent will hurt the conservative cause - more self-destruction on the right.
I majored in American history in college and have always loved the great moments we have---Inaugurations, State of the Union addresses, moments of national mourning when the President speaks for us all. These, in my view, should transcend party. How sad it is that the GOP has tainted one of those moments---the State of the Union address. Instead of focusing on the wonder of our elected President addressing both houses of Congress, with the Supreme Court there as well and us all looking ahead to working together, the Republicans give us "you lie", and people sending out Tweets and now Ted Nugent. Their pettiness is so tiresome.
IR:
I never would have thought it possible that Republicans could sink to the depths, where we find them today. They are utterly devoid of integrity and honor. Republican Congressman have sold any values and morals they may have had for the perks of Washington, D.C. It's quite as simple as that.
And when you think it is not possible for them to sink lower, they put on a pedestal a guy who literally crapped his pants out of fear - pure, unadulterated fear.
How anyone can look at the Republican Party and not feel overwhelming contempt is beyond me.
Floyd,
Didn't Mr. Crap Himself promise he would be either dead or in jail if President Obama was re-elected?
Another nut who couldn't tell the truth if Judge Judy notarized his tongue!
Brownies in the break room everyone, help yourselves...

IR, they're all scum bags in my view. Real Patriots don't run from military. Stockmon is going to have the opportunity to watch Nugent poop in his pants. if opens his mouth SS will deal with him.
Boehnor is a sum bag too
Amen, Steeler Fan. The whole snarky spectacle is ridiculous, worthy of a Third World banana republic. These folks were ostensibly elected to serve the people, not grandstand and self-destruct on the taxpayer's dime. Wonder who's picking up Nugent's tab to attend the festivities this evening...
We Progressives should thank Ted Nugent for the public service he has done for President Obama, by driving voters toward the President in order to avoid association with the crazies in the GOP Cult.
IR, and SF--well said.
Memo to the MSM Media: Ignore Ted Nugent, let the far right media have him. He deserves no opportunity to speak this evening. As for Steve Stockwell, he's as much a two-bit loser as is Nugent.
Fixed it Walker -

What I am ashamed of is Ted Nugent is originally from Michigan. A town near mine. Sad as it is, it is true, he is nothing but a pompous wind bag clutching to his guns who kills animals as trophies. He shoots at animals that don't shoot back but is scared silly to serve his country and this continues even today, as he is against gun control but offers no solutions and is just another tool of the NRA. Sad. A waste of human skin and breathes valuable oxygen that others could use much more then him.
I am quite sure Mr. Nugent is even more ashamed of you !
It used to frustrate me when Code Pink showed up at hearings and speeches in outrageous get-ups and attempted to disrupt official proceedings. Although I agreed with their disdain for Bush, I didn't think their presentation did our cause any favors.
Now, out-of-power conservatives have gone the same route, making a spectacle of themselves instead of trying to persuade the middle with responsible arguments. It's pretty ironic, considering Republicans always portrayed themselves as more rational than the "moonbats" who used florid language and emotion in their efforts to dissent. Palin, Trump, Bachmann, Ted Nugent, et al have given the lie to the idea conservatives are more rational than liberals, now, haven't they?
Nugent had better be spread-eagled and frisked on arrival and then just sit down and STFU during the State of the Union address, or tomorrow that pea-brained Stockman will be vilified even further for the way his daft draft-dodger buddy behaved.
It's embarassing for our country that the world will see how low the GOP has sunk.
Do you have a clue jim, obviously not, I was a productive member of society, I contributed to Michigan, Nugent, not so much.
There I fixed it for ya Twinkle-Toes!

White Collar Auto has finally found the courage to go head-to-head with me. Hitting the sauce this early in the morning, are you? Stroking your gun, are you?

You couldn't fix an electrical appliance if all it needed was to be plugged into a wall receptacle. Now, let's get back to the question that makes you tuck your tail in that empty spot between your legs and run away. How did those dumb ass union thugs outfox your comrades - the brilliant White Collar types - in the boardroom and executive suites?
@WCA -- It looks like the Old Gal is moving from the leg and fixin' to give you a Monica.
After the personal attacks, which render most of the rest of what Walker says just silly, Walker asks how you Union thugs outsmarted the management of the Big Three and at the same time posts here relentlessly about how the small group of Tea Party Folks have held the country hostage and completely Obstructed the Majorities Agenda.
Kind of Ironinc, eh?
Morning, Darlin'. I agree with just about everything you write. Must be that good Piedmont air free of the poison that exists within and surrounding the Beltway that gives you such clarity of thought and ability to choose just the right words to convey your message. Me, though enjoying the same unpoisoned air ... I'm having one of those foggy days so my eloquence is lacking. It may be the 22 "goody bags" I made for the wee one's Kindergarten class' Valentine's Day party ... inhaling all that air laden with sugar may have caused a sympathetic reaction in my brain causing it to slow down. Or maybe it was the heat gun I used while embossing stuff on the brown paper "lunch" bags.
Hope you and yours are all well.
For myself, I look forward to seeing Ted "motormouth" Nugent at the SOTU. I wonder if he's ever taken a bath since his Draft dodging actions. When I was young, while not a big fan, I enjoyed his music. Not any more. Nugent and David Mustaine have lost touch with the very people that made them wealthy, very much like a lot of their heroes on the right. The reason I look forward to seeing him is that whatever he says, being in front of a world wide audience, can only cement the awareness that he, and his supporters in the Republican party have lost all grip on reality.
Politics is the entertainment branch of industry.
I think Westminster will be far better viewing, involving much smarter people
Backhouse,
I find it funny that you mention Tim Cook from Apple. His company paid a tax rate of 1.9% in taxes and is keeping over $82 billion outside the country. This makes them one of the largest companies to outsource jobs in the country and one of the largest tax evaders we have.
The President is so mad that Mr. Cook is his guest tonight and will be sitting with the First Lady
You also write that of the largest countries the US is poised for the strongest recovery. I am curious of your definition of large countries because China, Canada, India, Russia, Australia, Cuba and a whole bunch of other countries are growing faster than us.
WCA, your comments make zero sense most of the time and these days even less...but I do detect a great deal of post-Nov 6 anger! Aspirin works great for the GOPer blahs.
jerry, Apple is bringing jobs BACK to the USA, that is probably why Tim Cook will be present--my guess is when President Obama talks about returning manufacturing jobs to the US, the camera will land on Cook as our President mentions Apple.
As for the tax rate they pay, along with most other big businesses, that wasn't President Obama's doing. Which party keeps telling us that business taxes are TOO HIGH? Hint, it isn't the democratic party. The GOP refuses to eliminate the tax loopholes that rewards big business's outsourcing of jobs. Doesn't make much sense to most Americans, right or left, and it certainly makes the GOPers look pathetic since they keep preaching jobs, jobs, jobs while backing legislation that ships jobs overseas and rewards the firms for doing it.
@ John Bryant
You forgot to thank "Slick Willie" for forsaking the middle class & the poor, to make him & Hillary millionaires. Yes indeed, he thanked those hedge fund managers, investors, & political buddies, for allowing the sale of toxic mortgages.
Forget the SOTU hype. It's all slick words by good speech writers for marketing the President's agenda.
Simply write, phone and or email your representative and let them know they will not be re-elected if they give in to any form of amnesty, regardless of what code words are used to label it, and the same goes for any violation of your human right to self defense.

No disdain for the money kept outside the US? HIPOCRITE ALERT
WhiteCollarAuto writes in response to my question how those dumb ass union thugs outsmarted the white collar crowd:
I see you still have no answer. I've been asking that question for almost a year now. Even for a right-winger that should be enough time to come up with some sort of answer.

Hey Zeppo, Clinton made some mistakes, but his presidency was, on the whole, a success. The economy boomed, we didn't start any unnecessary wars, and turned a down economy left by Reagan and Bush the first to a positive one. I think I would feel rather silly trying to bash a President that made progress towards fixing numerous problems left by his predecessors.
Sorry, but NOTHING is at stake for Obama tonight.
The GOP has killed itself off such that there is no real competition in the political arena. Absent an EPIC fail by the current administration, the Dems are still a lock for 2016.
In any case, IF there IS to be an epic fail, it will be from POLICY results, and NOT from ONE speech.
The country does NOT like this administration's policies - that is clear. The higher deficits, the loss of freedoms, the pandering to big business. (the latter having previously been thought to be a child solely of the GOP)
Obama GOT his tax raises already - his promise to cut 3.50 in spending for each dollar in raised taxes, is fallacy - he will NEVER do it...nor does he have to.
So long as the GOP panders to the few Bible-belters, and thumbs its nose at the greater population, (i.e., the GOP shooting itself in the foot Time after Time), the Dems have VERY little to fear.
Case in point, Obama has kept at least 80% of the policies which the nation rallied against when Bush implemented it - however, it's ok NOW, because, first, it's Obama, not Bush; second, the Dems are very good, even 6 years after Bush, in blaming Bush, even though our economy dipped last quarter - DIPPED ! Not remained the same, but DIPPED...it's STILL Bush's fault. Obama has NO reason to cater to ANYONE but his party - he's not up for reelection. His policies, by 2020 will be so entrenched, that this nation will be forever and irrevocably changed - and not for the better.
Jody, you have voiced the typical strawman argument that we hear today from most liberals: The GOP refuses to eliminate the tax loopholes that rewards big business's outsourcing of jobs.
Unfortunately, that is not true. Owebama bloviated about wanting a balanced approach including revenue and spending cuts. The GOP offered him revenue from the elimination of loopholes in the tax system. However, our Borrower-In-Chief (yes, the same person who says he wants compromise) refused the offer, and instead insisted on increases in the tax RATES, never mind the fact that closing corporate loopholes would have netted the gov't more revenue. Not to mention the fact that you could tax the rich at 100% and it wouldn't fun Owebama's spending spree for even six months. Oh yeah, and Owebama offered no spending cuts either. Quite the compromise, huh?
But that's ok - don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion.
Did You Know?
The U.S. fiscal gap, calculated using the Congressional Budget Office’s realistic long-term budget forecast -- the Alternative Fiscal Scenario -- is now $222 trillion. Last year, it was $211 trillion."The $11 trillion difference" -- this year’s true federal deficit -- is 10 times larger than the official deficit and roughly as large as the entire stock of official debt in public hands.
This fantastic and dangerous growth in the fiscal gap is not new. In 2003 and 2004, the economists Alan Auerbach and William Gale extended the CBO’s short-term forecast and measured fiscal gaps of $60 trillion and $86 trillion, respectively. In 2007, the first year the CBO produced the Alternative Fiscal Scenario, the gap, stood at $175 trillion. By 2009, when the CBO began reporting the AFS annually, the gap was $184 trillion. In 2010, it was $202 trillion, followed by $211 trillion in 2011 and $222 trillion in 2012. So that means each American Household “owes” over $1 Million dollars in “debt”. Hahaha

The infamous Obamacare excise tax on medical devices that we covered back in December has officially come into effect as of January 1, and the fleecing has already affected some customers at a popular sporting goods chain. The 2.3 percent tax, which was only supposed to affect medical devices sold to hospitals and other healthcare entities, began to show up inexplicably on store receipts at a Cabela's sporting goods store in Texas, catching some customers by surprise.
A screenshot of a Cabela's store receipt that has widely circulated the internet in recent weeks shows purchases made for $279.67, with $26.69 of this total representing taxes. But further down on the receipt is a breakdown of this charge which shows $20.87 for "General Sales and Use," and $5.82 for a "Medical Excise Tax." Not only had the Obama administration previously indicated that medical devices sold at the retail level would be exempt from the tax, but Cabela's does not even sell medical devices, which makes the appearance of anomalous charge highly confusing.
You can Google these receipts by including the words " Excise Tax" along with the word "Receipts"
Not long after this particular receipt made the digital rounds, several others also emerged, and Cabela's eventually came forward to indicate that the charge, which allegedly showed up on receipts at numerous Cabela's locations, was the result of "a computer glitch that has (since) been fixed." But many are wondering how the tax itself, which was supposedly never intended to affect any retail purchases whatsoever, ended up being accidentally input into the Cabela's computer system in the first place.
There have also been reported "medically taxed" receipts coming out of Denny's and other establishments that have nothing to do with any type of medical care. Welcome to Obama Care!!!

Warren Buffett, who has been a cheerleader for U.S. stocks for quite some time, is dumping shares at an alarming rate. He recently complained of “disappointing performance” in dyed-in-the-wool American companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Kraft Foods.
In the latest filing for Buffett’s holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits. Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced his overall stake in “consumer product stocks” by 21%. Berkshire Hathaway also sold its entire stake in California-based computer parts supplier Intel.
With 70% of the U.S. economy dependent on consumer spending, Buffett’s apparent lack of faith in these companies’ future prospects is worrisome.
Unfortunately Buffett isn’t alone.
Fellow billionaire John Paulson, who made a fortune betting on the subprime mortgage meltdown, is clearing out of U.S. stocks too. During the second quarter of the year, Paulson’s hedge fund, Paulson & Co., dumped 14 million shares of JPMorgan Chase. The fund also dumped its entire position in discount retailer Family Dollar and consumer-goods maker Sara Lee.
Finally, billionaire George Soros recently sold nearly all of his bank stocks, including shares of JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs. Between the three banks, Soros sold more than a million shares.
So why are these billionaires dumping their shares of U.S. companies?
After all, the stock market is still in the midst of its historic rally. Real estate prices have finally leveled off, and for the first time in five years are actually rising in many locations. And the unemployment rate seems to have stabilized.
It’s very likely that these professional investors are aware of specific research that points toward a massive market correction, as much as 90%.
Ill just stop there and let you read the rest for yourself in the link below.
This is very important, and you need to understand why because when people like Buffet that have been the poster child for an entity like the Stock Market start quietly backing out of something they have whole heartedly supported….. well I don’t need to tell you what that means now do I?
Just read this ONE article out of many that show and report this….
http://www.moneynews.com/Outbrain/billionaires-dump-economist-stock/2012/08/29/id/450265?PROMO_CODE=FE8A-1
I lament the fact that I could keep going on with facts & situations like these all day, but we need to understand where we are on this map of crap before we can determine where we are heading and which direction we need to correct ourselves to…
To My American Family….things are changing faster than you could imagine and things are not what they appear to be. For the most part, realistically, it is quite dangerously the opposite of what it is “officially reported” as, and you need to start researching everything you can right now.
Don’t let bought and paid for “news” and presstitiues rule on what you know and how you know it, because that is extremely irresponsible and perilously dangerous.
Think Smarter Not Harder
DrAlchemy, you are one creepy dude; bet your mother, wife or ?? would be proud of your words.
Realist, no, it is not a strawman argument and you know it. One only needs look at the words of GOP legislators recently who defend those loopholes, can't raise taxes don't you know. In the 80's Ronald Reagan discovered just how filled with loopholes the tax code was. It was the one thing that he gets a cheer from me for doing, he demanded an overhaul of the tax code. Congress did a complete overhaul of the code. Now, some 30 years later, most of the loopholes were lobbied back into place by the special interest groups who benefit from them.
Jody, the simple fact is the GOP offered to compromise with Owebama to raise revenue by closing the loopholes (including the corporate tax loopholes). All Owebama had to do is say "yes." But nope - our beloved Divider-In-Chief, the one who says he wants compromise even AFTER blessing a "balanced" approach (and actually has the audacity for criticizing the GOP for not compromising), decided that he will only accept an increase of tax rates on those who he calls rich, while offering up no spending cuts. Sorry, but thems are the facts. Stings, doesn't it?

Closing loopholes should be part of a more thorough tax reform package. Loopholes closed in haste are soon circumvented and the desired increase in revenue would be short termed. That's why the repubs wanted it - they'd be able to serve both masters (the 1% and the corporations) by deceiving the people into thinking something was actually done.
Steeler fan...
How droll that you have already read obama's address and passed judgement on it. Doesn't really matter what nugent says. He is niether senator, representative or justice. You are right in one regard though, obama needs to project a unifying and positive message tonight. A message that reflects wisdom in what can be accomplished, not who to blame.
One thing that I have learned over the years is that any hint on his part of partisanship or saying that we can do anything "right away" will doom his second term. IE I hope that by this time he has read and understood dale carneigies book "how to win friends and influence people"
We shall see...
Has everyone forgotten that Clinton was very successful negotiating with the repubs AFTER he called their bluff by allowing them to actually shut down the govt? How long did that last before the repubs decided to work with Clinton?
The same remedy may be needed by Obama. Let's see who has the 'guts'. Obama has nothing to lose and the repubs will be blamed if a shutdown happens.
I'm FOR the sequestration.
But I do worry about the effect on the world economy if we close bases around the world. Their economies are as dependent on our spending in their countries as Texas is on our spending in their state.
What is funny is people like fiesty and dave walker evidently think their posting on here amounts to more than lower grade jack$hit.
Absolutely hilarious!
Another day of posts on this site, once again reveals this one truth; If the USA continues to be ever more intransigently and inextricably divided, using these forums to merely bloviate and not set the table for rational collaboration that results in intelligent compromised, fact-based, functional solutions, we are in deep merde. Whether these sites reflect the dysfunction of our broader political economic dialog, are the underlying cause behind the dysfunction, or just reflect that generally speaking , only the most unreasonable among us have the time to comment, the media believes this focus on polarized, self-congratulating statements and/or personal attacks IS the majority speaking and programs accordingly. It's more than past time that the rational (and somewhat silent) majority demand that this rattletrap, give way to enlightened and intelligent collaboration and a willingness to yield, as that is the ONLY way to craft RATIONAL solutions to the problems we face.
Nope, can't let ordinary Americans have their say. Gotta protect the BIG LIE Marxist alternative universe.

You two talk so much alike I would almost guess you are the same person. You are both bitter and angry. My theory is your pissed because you voted for Obama AGAIN, and you see are getting screwed AGAIN, and he's not keeping his promises AGAIN, and he is raising our taxes STILL, and you found out you have to actually PAY the monthly talk time bill on your FREE Obama phone. Shucks. It's either that or because you are both from IL and are terrified of gang and drive by shootings.
My sympathy's. But not really. You've made your bed........you know the rest.
SOTU. I look forward to tonight's State of the Union Speech. Even when I was young, I do not remember a time when my family did not watch or listen to the speech. It did not matter if the President got our vote or not, we listened. It was and remains an important part of our young country's history; part of the Constitution. When I was in school, the SOTU was talked about the next day--remember current events even in grade school?
That tradition of listening to the SOTU, regardless of who was president continued, through my young adulthood years and it continues today. On my very own first TV, a little black and white 12" portable, I watched Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan. When the old black & white bit the dust, I watched more Reagan, George H. W. Bush on a slightly bigger portable color TV. I watched President George W. Bush just as I did President Bill Clinton despite my feelings that Bush should never have been president. I watch because I respect the Office of President and think how great it was that our founders put this requirement in the Constitution. We the People need to hear how things are going and what our President hopes to achieve--doesn't matter if we agree or not.
Last night Rachel Maddow did an informative segment on rebuttal speeches. I didn't remember when this particular tradition began but I did know that it was not always part of SOTU night. I do remember that regardless of which party gives the rebuttals, they are not live so they do not actually "rebut" anything nor are they relevant except to the party to which the "re-butters" speak--the speech maker merely repeats their party's talking points with a few promises that their party will fix all that ailes America if elected next time.
As Rachel mentioned, the rebuttals began in 1966 in response to LBJ; by the 3rd year of the rebuttals, seventeen (17) republicans spoke after LBJ's SOTU. The LBJ years were years of GOP turmoil if memory serves me. 17 must have been about 16 too many so the rebuttals stopped and were not revived until the late 70's or early 80's. Now the opposition's rebuttals are just part of the SOTU, not necessarily a worthwhile endeavor either.
Republicans now have a new tradition, two rebuttals per President Obama SOTU speech. Maybe the two rebuttals came about because Bobby Jindal and Bob McDonnell's rebuttals were just awful, almost painful to watch. In 2011, it was Paul Ryan giving the official GOP rebuttal with Michele Bachmann providing the Tea Party rebuttal of the rebuttal. 2012 gave us Mitch Daniels followed by Herman Cain rebutting Daniels. This year, it will be Marco Rubio followed by Rand Paul.
The GOP now rebuts itself which begs the question: how can the GOP ever hope to "re-brand" itself, to unite again if it continues to have dueling rebuttals to the SOTU? Sorry GOPTPers, but it makes the republicans party look ridiculously incoherent and just plain silly.
For a reminder of why George W. Bush should never have been president, here's what he said about one of his SOTU speeches: "And so, in my State of the--my State of the Union--or State--my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation--I asked Americans to give four thousand years--four thousand hours over the next--the rest of our life--of service to America. That's what I asked--four thousand hours." President Bush's words sum up why two GOPer rebutting President Obama and EACH OTHER makes about as much sense as Bush's memory of his own speech.
Barring a hockey game, Canadians will sit and listen politely all the while sighing in relief as each minute passes without a mention of us ... good or bad.
I'll never forget Bobby Jindal's performance and thinking--he's their hope for the future? Really? Possibly my favorite moment of rebuttal, though, was when Michele Bachmann kept looking in the wrong camera. She always has that odd look about her anyway and that just made it worse.

Thanks Jody,
I missed Rachel last night. This accounts for the reason the GOP thinks Rubio is their Saver sincce they gave him the talking points.
It's true the GOP needs "DIVINE INTERVENTION"; but it's not in Rubio.
I can remember all the way back to Eisenhower. I don't recall my mother saying anything negative. My dad worked nights.
Clarification to my post. I believe the rebuttal speeches are live but am not sure. I should have said that their speeches are written before the President's SOTU speech is released; therefore, the opposition party cannot rebut anything.
I dont know what rebranding actually means to the GOP but nothing they've done so far fits the definition:
In marketing, Rebranding is the creation of a new name, term, symbol, design, or combination thereof for an established brand with the intention of developing a new, differentiated identity in the minds of consumers, investors, and competitors.[1][2]
Far from just a change of visual identity, rebranding should be part of an overall brand strategy for a product or service.[3]
This may involve radical changes to the brand's logo, brand name e.g.orphan initialism, image, marketing strategy, and advertising themes. These changes are typically aimed at the repositioning of the brand/company, sometimes in an attempt to distance itself from certain negative connotations of the previous branding, or to move the brand upmarket. However, the main reason for a re-brand is to communicate a new message for a company, something that has evolved, or the new board of directors wish to communicate.
Rebranding can be applied to new products, mature products, or even products still in development. The process can occur intentionally through a deliberate change in strategy or occur unintentionally from unplanned, emergent situations, such as a "Chapter 11 corporate restructuring," "union busting," or "bankruptcy."

Doesn't John Boehner understand he will be perceived as a weak leader and the more they trot out a nut like Nugent; the better it is for President Obama???
Woooooooo !! The libtards, the libturds and the radical extremist lefties got up early to coordinate their cutting and pasting ! Then, of course, they congratulate each other on their posts .... wouldn't it be easier to just pat them on the back ... literally !
And I love the link to "propaganda central" .... a.k.a. "media matters" !! LOL !!!
BCWC, I think you can relax because I don't recall Candidate or President Obama ever saying a bad thing about Canada!
Not sure which of the GOPer responses was the worst. Jindal looked and sounded silly. McDonnell gave his rebuttal in the VA State House trying so hard to replicate the look and feel of the real SOTU and failing badly. Paul Ryan's rebuttal was all gloom and doom; he sat in a chair, in a dark room, one little lamp in the background, wearing dark clothes--any minute I expected him to whip his vampire cape over his head and head for the camera's jugular. Bachmann's focus to some spot off to her right gave the whole thing a look of disconnection from reality which is how she seems most of the time. Daniels probably gave the best response, a call for less polarization but milk toast is milk toast no matter how fancy the glass.
Jody, two rebuttals? I missed Rachel last night. Now we have 2?
Why don't they concentrate on actually working? What good do they do? No one remembers them other than they usually just fall flat.
In government, as opposed to business, "negative connotations" means the policies of the previous administration were a disaster, not that people grew tired of it's flavor. Regardless of what Bush thinks, his low approval rating wasn't the result of people not liking his persona, it was the financial crisis, deep debt, and two endless wars he left us with that created the need for his Party to "rebrand" it's self as colonial-era Patriots fighting a tax-imposing King.
GBM, you have to laugh at the GOP saying it is "re-branding" itself because all that means is a fancier, more modern look to a product while the product remains unchanged whether it is new marketing ads or a new container. If the GOP really wants to appeal to the electorate, they need a total product (policy)overhaul.
Beverly, Rachel's segment was an interesting refresher in SOTU rebuttals.
jim#'s, sorry but we liberals didn't need to coordinate anything; anyone paying attention yesterday knew what today's First Thoughts topic would be. Heads up, jimbob, I'll probably talk about President Obama's excellent SOTU speech tomorrow and critique the dueling GOPer rebuttals.
Yes two of them. The "official" one and the teabagger one. Both irrelevant to governing this country.
My tv will be on MSNBC for the SOTU.
Pat, it's true; this will be the third year of the GOP dueling rebuttals--and they wonder why their messages are mixed.
Jody, Iowa...agreed I to remember sitting with my family regardless of the president watching the SOTU speech. Sadly, the GOP continues to reflect a party imploding lacking a united message or platform. Their current course gives relevance to a further shellacking come the 2014 election. I'm hearing increasingly how more and more Republicans are fed up. They intend to kick certain "cans," out not for another Republican. Every time the GOP resorts to such low tactics the Dems look to be the better choice. The Nugent side show is irrevelant his past qualifies him as nothing more than a want-a-be he's an insubordinate annoyance. His small wonder associates continue to recreate interest in their own designed rhetoric. Freedom of speech unfortunately does not ensure substance or quality. A Right Wing bi-product resulting from tunnel vision lacking facts and critical thinking skills. Simply, they obviously don't possess the capacity to research the facts using other sources than their designed own.
Westminster is looking better & better. BCWC are they playing the Canucks? Green Men Rule
Mary, the SOTU was a family event, no matter how small the family; it should be today as well but I'm guessing that it isn't in many households. I agree, the GOP suffers tunnel vision; they think short-term on economics, the country's future and long-term only when looking at how to win elections; they have a very narrow view on things that require a wide-open view.
@ Amy
rotflmao & spitting coffee all over the keyboard. I loved the fact that people only looked at the surface for the cause of the financial crisis. It's right there in plain view, I tell you. He got us in 2 wars and NOW he ruined the economy. I am po'd that Bush didn't fix that which Carter & Clinton brought upon us all. Interesting that a full 11 years prior to the meltdown, it could have been fixed then & there.
I think watching HGTV makes me smarter than watching any news channel or reading any posts. I'll be watching HGTV tonight. It's my favorite.
Jody, it's the dems who are short-term thinkers about the economy. Owebama injected stimulus money into the economy as a short-term shot in the arm, however all it did is rack up another trillion in debt. And by the way, given the stimulus money was so inefficient that for the amount of stimulus money that went into each job created, the money would have been better spent (about 5 times better spent) as direct cash handouts to people.
At some point (i.e., the long term), the spending chickens will come home to roost when we can't borrow another dollar, and then where do we end up? The GOP plan might, I admit, result in some short-term pain to achieve long-term stability... but that short-term pain is the same pain that everybody (well, except for Owebama) goes through when they spend money the don't have.
The owebama spend and spend policy is setting us up for amageddon in the long term.
When the deficit reaches 20 trillion and the dollar falls flat on it's face, who are you gonna blame?
20 Trillion, like THIS YEAR? Of course, it'll be BUSH's FAULT!!!
The split "Republican" response to the SOTU for three years running, foreshadows one inevitable truth about the GOP. By 2016, 2018 at the latest, the deeply divided GOP will split into two "official" parties. One party will retain the Republican name and will form around the "establishment" core of the GOP. The moderated new mission statement from this wing of the party, will bring back center leaning independents who defected from the old GOP when the message became intransigent and radicalized and will attract conservative leaning Democrats, who've been looking for another Ronald Reagan for nearly 30 years.
The other party ? Undoubtedly those who identify strongly with the "Tea Party". Representing perhaps 35-40 % of the current GOP, an official Tea Party will also appeal to recent party defectors, some who have split to join minor parties like the "Constitution Party" or that call themselves libertarians (both small and big L). Precisely because of their often cognitively dissonant anti-government passion, an official Tea Party will successfully resist Federalism's innate power to absorb upstart parties into the two-party system.
A successful official Tea Party formula, will combine their remarkable existing influence on the state and local levels, with their surprising influence within the major media and stirred with a swizzle stick of how powerful the internet has been at validating what were once highly marginalized ideas (and raising grass roots money). This official Tea Party formula, will have the inertia and the numbers to elect candidates to state, local and even federal office. Perhaps an "official" Tea Party, will be the first real, viable and perhaps permanent Third Party, ever.

To misquote Charles Dickens (who I've never really liked anyway), it was the worst of times and the best of times yesterday - all within the space of a few hours. The worst: In the latest episode of The Republican "Rebranding", Congressman Steve Stockman - who knows so little about the Constitution that he believes it gives us the right to impeach the President of the United States simply for something he proposes to do - announced he was inviting Ted Nugent to the State of the Union address tonight:
"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama," said Stockman in a press release of the man who was under Secret Service investigation last year for comments made about the president." A "patriot" who also "called the president, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “criminals,” said the “government is wiping its ass with the constitution,” and equated Democrats to coyotes who should be shot.“If the coyote's in your living room pissing on your couch,” Nugent said, “it's not the coyote's fault. It's your fault for not shooting him."
Why, that's not only patriotism, it's sheer poetry.
Meanwhile, just down the streeet at the White house, it was the bittersweet best of times in our country, as the President who Nugent advocates shooting was busy awarding the Medal of Honor to another patriot, former Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha and honoring the eight other brave patriots who died in the same 2009 attack in Afghanistan:
"Romesha, 31, listened to the commendation while fighting back tears, sometimes unsuccessfully, the families of his fallen comrades sitting together and crying near the back of his East Room audience. Other troops who fought that day also watched as the president placed the medal hanging from a blue ribbon around Romesha's neck.
"I'm feeling conflicted with this medal I now wear," Romesha told reporters outside the West Wing after the ceremony. "The joy comes from recognition for us doing our jobs as soldiers on distant battlefields, but is countered by the constant reminder of the loss of our battle buddies, my battle buddies, my soldiers, my friends."
"Eight U.S. soldiers were killed in the fighting and 22 others wounded, including Romesha, who was peppered with shrapnel from a rocket-propelled grenade in the hip, arm and neck. But he fought through his wounds to help lead other soldiers to safety, defend the burning camp from encroaching Taliban fighters, personally taking out at least 10, and retrieve the bodies of the fallen Americans.
Romesha also served twice in Iraq and is the fourth living Medal of Honor recipient for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan".
So, let's recap here, shall we? The Republican party - the self-professed party of the Constitution, the Ten Commandments and and the ever-popular "family values" - now hails as its "patriot" a washed up, has-been-who-never-really-was musician who once reveled in sex, drugs, rock and roll and creatively dodging the draft. A patriot who advocates spitting on the Constitution and shooting his fellow Americans. While the main object of his scorn, the Communist-Muslim-Socialist-anti-American-dictator-who-must-be-overthrown-at-all-costs, was at the same time honoring Staff Sgt. Romesha in a simple and tearfully emotional ceremony. "Our troops should not ever be put in a position where they have to defend the indefensible," Obama said. "That's what these soldiers did for each other in sacrifice driven by pure love."
http://news.msn.com/us/army-vet-receives-medal-of-honor-for-afghan-fight
I have no idea what Sgt. Romesha's political leanings are - if any. But he accepted his medal from his commander in chief with all the respect and honor and class and dignity that this age-old ceremony is due, and his commander returned it ten-fold.
A tale of two patriots? Like I said, I never liked Dickens. I'm more of a Robert Frost girl myself:
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
Our political paths here in America have also diverged. Republicans can have their "patriot" and they're more than welcome to him.
I chose another path long ago and that has made all the difference.
Here's to Staff Sgt Romesha and his comrades, living and dead. Rest assured, most of us know real patriots when we hear about them.
JoAnne, thanks, very well-said.
Charles Dickens was not known of as a poet and Robert Frost was not known of as a novelist. I am glad to see that you like poetry however, there are not many of us around.
Just beautiful, JoAnne--thanks for reminding us of the real heroes that are among us. I was so disappointed by the whole Ted Nugent thing and needed that reminder.
Excellent post JoAnne. Thanks for putting it in perspective.
Bravo JoAnne Beautifully stated, nothing to add.
JoAnne-
Excellent post.
I am stunned and amazed that Republicans can call someone who went to such great lengths to avoid the draft a "patriot".
The Republican party has become the party of "chicken hawks", faux patriots who eagerly rattle the sabers they worked so hard to avoid carrying.
GW Bush, Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney...after using their family's power and influence to avoid their call to service, they have no problem sending our sons and daughters off to war while their sons and daughters continue the not-so-proud tradition of remaining safely at home.
Rest assured, most of us know real patriots when we hear about them.
Beautiful post JoAnne. Just beautiful.
Well said JoAnne, congrats on todays post.
TNSEVOL, I don't know why you are stunned and amazed that republicans call Ted Nugent a "patriot". They call the tea party patriots and these are irresponsible people that plainly do not want to contribute to our society in any way. Both Nugent and the tea party suck as far as being Americans.
Pitch Perfect, JoAnne! Just beautifully strung together! Thanks!
Are you noticing,so far, not one member of the GOP/TP have voiced an objection. Where are all the 'patriots' who accuse the President of ruining the country?
This invitation by a GOP Rep. to someone who should be toxic to them, is OK?
What hypocrites thy name is GOP/TP.
See post #3.7 above .... the liberal circle jerk is in full display under comment #4.
Awesome JoAnne, simpy awesome...
I watched a clip of the ceremony to honor Sgt. Romesha and his comrades this morning, and I was moved by his humanity, as well as his courage. Our country should never put our soldiers in such situations as he endured, without weighing whether the objective is clearly defined and the effort able to be well executed. May the casualties incurred in Afghanistan and Iraq not be for naught: we must remember and learn from their sacrifices.
jim-1455434: "the liberal circle jerk is in full display".
Thank you all, but I hereby willingly yield the circle to jim.
If you would be so kind, jim, please just share a few words to explain why you agree with Congressman Stockman that Ted Nugent is a "patriot" who is worthy of the same respect and honor that our country normally reserves for people like Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha.
Have at it, jim - the circle - and the spotlight - are all yours.......
Feisty do you ever write anything pertinent to the article or do you just digress in all of your posts?
Aaahhh, JoAnne ....always ready to deflect to something else ! The subject is Barack Obama's upcoming SOTU speech and what he will say ! Not going to play your intended asinine game of going to something else YOU would rather deflect upon ! Try to stay on topic for a change !!
And Deven, the answer to your question is all liberals posting here will digress or deflect when the subject matter can be changed to their liking. Many of those making such deflections are here all day long, every day ..... must have government jobs !! LOL !!!!!!!!!
jim-1455434
Um, no, the subject matter in this string is JoAnne's post. Your very own circle jerk pals are posting on the first string.
Jim........ JoAnne asked you a legitimate question. I'm interested in your legitimate response. Simple question. Response should be simple to compose even for one as limited as you seem to be. Or is what you are trying to avoid saying is that YOU think that a low life like the Nuge deserves that same stage as the Sgt. just because of the Party that he apparently speaks for. Have at it there Sport or go on over in the comer and STFU.
I truly loved the part where the President said to Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha " I award you the highest decoration of service to our country"
I don't know a single military person, let alone a Marine who would consider their medals a decoration. Instead of relying on your intellect, you may want to get back to the telepromptor
"I don't know a single military person, let alone a Marine who would consider their medals a decoration"
Really? Perhaps you should alert the Pentagon:
http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/Awards/decorations.aspx
TNSEVOL, so by the same rationale, you can not refer to Wild Willy Clinton as a patriot? I'm a Republican, but I can even call Buffalo Bill a patriot. He was able to work with a republican house and get some real work done. Compare that to our current Divider-In-Chief.
Or these guys:
http://www.veterantributes.org/top20mostdecorated.htm
Where did Jim 1455434 go to? By golly, JoAnne and IR I do believe you have stumped ol' Jim....maybe he'll be back later possibly with another deflection. But I really want to hear his answer to JoAnne's legitimate question.
Who gives a flying bleep about Ted Nugent? In case you dems haven't noticed, our country has real problems - and none of them involve Ted Nugent. You people have already spent more time thinking about Ted Nugent's appearance at the SOTU than you probably spent about Owebama's dereliction of duty that cost four Americans their lives on American soil in Benghazi. Not to mention the amount of time you spent crying for Bush's impeachment over waterboarding of enemy combatants, while remaining silent when it came to Obama legalizing the drone-killing of American citizens. Shameful... do us all a favor and continue your silence. You disgust me.
Joanne you are missing Zappas point. It's obvious you have never served in the US military so let me give you the Readers Digest version.
Few in the military would define them as decorations regardless of what you google up. Awards? Maybe. Medals? Yes, but not decorations. Decorations are for your Christmas tree, living room, etc.
I wouldn't expect you to understand. Those that served do understand.
And where is anyone comparing Ted Nugent to a CMOH winner? The only one i've read doing that is you.
Jon I served too. Let me give you the Readers Digest version. Your full of sh!t. Maybe you need to go back to your First Sgt. or Gunny and have him patiently explain to you the difference between Decorations, Awards,Medals and Ribbons. Or you can continue to show your ignorance makes no never mind to me
Any time a person who has threatened the life of the President is allowed into the same room with the President, we should all be concerned. And this time, it is being facilitated by an elected member of Congress.
Any time a person who is threatening the lives of American diplomats on American soil overseas communicates that to the White House, and the White House does nothing and instead chooses to focus on his campaign and lets our diplomats die, we should all be concerned. Whenever the same people who bemoaned waterboarding have no problem with the President mandating that he has the power to be judge, jury, and executioner of American citizens with no due process, we should all be concerned. Whenever the President racks up more debt than all prior presidents combined, we should all be concerned. Whenever a President's failed policies result in 14% unemployment (when counting those who gave up looking), we should all be concerned. Whenever a President's failed policies result in an actual 14% unemployment rate for African Americans, we should all be concerned. Whenever our GDP stops growing, we should all be concerned. Whenever a President's agenda is to turn America into a socialist nation, we should all be concerned. When the mainstream media ignores all of the above, we should all be concerned.
Get it? There's a lot more (meaningful) stuff to be concerned about than Ted Nugent.
Congratulations gomer. Perhaps you need to take a reading comprehension class or you can continue to show your ignorance. Makes no never mind to me.
As should be expected, the new Pope will be as Conservative as the present one if the odds makers are correct. Leader of the pack appears to be 68 year old Cardinal Marc Ouellet of Quebec. Since 2001 his rise from Bishop to Arch Bishop to Cardinal and the Roman Curia has been meteoritic. He is staunchly Pro-Life from A to Z and women will still be denied the priesthood.
Those of other than European stock will have to remain patient for several decades to come.
Betting odds are currently 3:1
Do you think Cardinal Ouellet can say "eh" in Latin?
As a former Catholic, the election of a new Pope makes me sad when they refuse to consider moderation.
Apparently the Cardinal is fluent in 6 languages but not including Yiddish, so there will be no "oy eh".
I hear Obama is going to tell the Country where he was on the night of the Bengahzi attack..........I'm sorry...it appears the White House won't say...
Where the President was during the Bengahzi attack is a moot point. The whole talking point is a way to gin up the GOP base with "Fake Outrage."
However, we should also look at the American Military Casualties in Iraq.
Yes, and then we could look at the American Casualties in Obama's Afghanistan war! The number of U.S casualties have tripled since Obama's first term!! But ofcourse they don't talk about it in the news, do they?
Also, let's look at just what was Dubya doing when those planes struck in New York, DC and PA on 9/11/01?
Just what was Dubya doing?
Oh yes, the Afghanistan war. The one in which Bush took his eye off of and let them recover and become even stronger while he was focused on Iraq.
Yes, the Iraq war! The war that was approved by both parties!
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
That is proven by what has happened in Afghanistan. Bush/cheney fumbled badly in Afghanistan by cutting and running to their Iraq Abortion, that they lied about a verified 935 times. The Democrats voted based on those 935 lies, and when the truth finally came out they publicly recanted. But the republicons still claim that their lies are the truth.
Study: Bush, aides made 935 false statements in run-up to war - CNN
Yes, because of false information!!!
What was the false information? Incorrect intelligence? Or blatant, "we know otherwise for a fact but this is what we're telling you" lies?
Chilled, what W was doing on 9/11 is a non-analogous argument... exactly what I would expect from liberals these days. Had W received a phone call on the morninng of 9/11 that planes are en route to crash into the World Trade Center, and W decided instead to focus on his next campaign agenda instead of taking an active role in ensuring that military was deployed to intervene, THEN the two situations would have been comparable.
Let's put things in perspective. 300,000 Americans have died in gun violence since 9-11-01.
Job1
Then why did the Democrats vote to fund that war for 10 years or more?
Richardo98
There I fixed that for you.
Presidential Speeches
February 12 - Abraham Lincoln's Birthday
Abraham Lincoln set to work writing his first Inaugural Speech in Springfield,Ill. He was of course aware how important his words were going to be to a country splintering after his election. So his objective in the speech was to reach out to the southern states and ask that they rejoin the nation. As newly elected President of the United States, he as well had to speak to the northern and border states. Finding a way to strike just the right tone so as not to offend anyone was his main objective.
While writing the speech, Lincoln for guidance kept with him a copy of both the United States Constitution and Andrew Jackson's proclamation on nullification. Lincoln wrote his speech in the second-floor storeroom of his brother-in-law's store, far from the prying eyes of the press, office seekers and well wishes.
Once he had completed it, the speech was entrusted to William Bailhache, editor of a newspaper who locked himself and one typesetter in the composing room of the newspaper and printed a dozen copies.
These were distributed to various friends and associates of Lincoln for review and feedback. By the time of departure from Springfield, Illinois to Washington DC, the speech had been revised three times and reprinted. Once finished and despite the importance of the speech, Abraham Lincoln merely put it in a black oilcloth handbag, gave it to his older son Robert and told him to take care of it, without telling his son what was in the handbag.
When the train departed for Washington DC, it reached Indianapolis for the first stop over, and there the train was greeted by estimates of 50,000 people. Because the crowds were large and poorly controlled, the presidential party had to carry their own luggage to where they were spending the night.
Lincoln's son Robert was besieged by local youths who carried him off in a raucous celebration. Abraham Lincoln, reaching the hotel long after his son, was anxious about his black bag. He could not find his son for quite some time and when he finally found Robert, Lincoln asked him about the handbag. Robert replied with boredom that since he had no room, he had simply given the bag to the hotel clerk, as any traveler would. Asked by Lincoln what the hotel clerk did with it, Robert replied with disinterest that the clerk had set it on the floor behind the counter.
Abraham Lincoln's first thought was that he would wake up in the morning only to see his Inaugural Address splashed all over the morning newspapers. The thought horrified him.
So he rushed through the crowds and swung himself over the clerk's counter, behind which a small mountain of carpetbags of all colors had accumulated. Then drawing a little key out of his pocket he began delving for all of the black ones, and opened one by one those that the key would unlock, to the great surprise and amusement of the clerk and bystanders, as their miscellaneous contents came to light. Fortune favored the President-elect, for after the first half dozen trials, he found his speech.
Lincoln carried the bag back to his room, only this time he told Robert what it contained, then handed it back to his son and said, "Now you keep it!"
"You bet I did," Robert later related, adding reminiscently, "Father did not scold. He never alluded to it again."
______________________
Robert Todd Lincoln had many sorrowful years attempting to protect both his mother's emotional well being and her finances. She had become so ill that she told people she was going to kill her son, and she began walking around town with a gun in her pocket. She spent money like there was no tomorrow for things she didn't need. When her husband and children died, Mary Todd Lincoln never truly recovered. Robert knew this, yet people blamed him for institutionalizing her. What people never knew was how sick she really was. Robert always knew and always tried (many times in vain) to protect and care for her.
Robert as well spent his life protecting his father's legacy. Being the only surviving child of Abraham Lincoln was a heavy responsibility and he chose a path few would have in his position. He avoided at every turn capitalizing on his father's name in his own interest. He did not strive for public notice. He went about his life quietly, with dignity, staying in the shadows. He considered reticence the wise course and he was right. Every presidential election year for decades, he was tapped to run for the presidency. It wasn't for him.
People accused him of burning his father's papers. He didn't. He burned his own private papers. His father's papers he secretly donated to the Library of Congress with the promise that they not be released until 21 years after his death. His reasoning? He did not want to embarrass living persons who had had family members at one time connected with his father.
With awe Robert Lincoln knew when he reached three score and ten that his father already had become as universal a figure as Shakespeare. What a responsibility to live a worthy life as the son of such a man. Robert's low profile "springs from a feeling that the name of Lincoln came to him in trust to be preserved as his immortal father left it, without change or addition by any other man."
One of the things that gave Robert enormous pleasure in his later years was witnessing the building of the Lincoln Memorial in DC, a memorial he loved dearly.
Robert Lincoln died in his sleep in 1926 in Vermont. He was a man who led a life his father would have been proud of. A man who could in most cases walk down the street and hardly be recognized as Abraham Lincoln's last surviving child.
It was what he desired.
The above quotes & stories I took almost verbatim from "Giant in the Shadows" - The Life of Robert T. Lincoln, by Jason Emerson.
Pat -
Another great post.
Abraham Lincoln is by far my favorite president, and in my opinion the Gettysburg Address is the single greatest speech ever written for both its brevity and tone.
Thanks for sharing this, Pat. I read "Team of Rivals" and was so impressed. Often wonder how different things would have been if not for John Wilkes Booth.
Thank you Steeler Fan. The book on Robt. Lincoln was one of the most moving books I have ever read. Truly an interesting man Abraham Lincoln's son was.
TNSEVOL, Gettysburg. I would like to travel there on my way to DC in September but it seems so out of the way. I'm trying to figure out how I can get there from I guess Philadelphia.
Great! Thank you Pat.
@ Pat
Very nice. Thanks
Congratulations, North Korea...you apparentlly did a better job building a nuclear device than you did attempting to create a vehicle to deliver said device.
...oh, and you pissed off China, too!
Following the President's State of the Union speech and the totally predictable response of Republican mouthpieces, we had better understand how important it is to wipe out the Republican majority in the House in 2014.
Republicans offer nothing but a further widening of the gap between the richest of Americans and everybody else. They will not rest until there is a very small ruling class and a servile lower class.
Regardless of what Republicans say, they are the party of class warfare.
Mr. Walker - Have you heard the speech by Dr. Benjamin Carson at the National Prayer Breakfast last week? And yes, Mr. Obama was there. Looking at the expression on his face he was not pleased. But EVERYTHING this man said is the truth. Don't be afraid to give it a listen you might just see things in a different light. Then do some research on this man he WOULD make a better leader than what we have now I am sure.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2013/02/07/dr_benjamin_carson_addresses_national_prayer_breakfast_criticizes_obamacare.html
TruthComesHere, I am sure that if you praise it, it isn't worth my time to watch it. Obviously it is the truth as the right sees it which by the way isn't the truth.
What an open mind there Johntho.
How very Liberal of you.
Union man from Michigan, I bet.
LOL Johntho - And therein lies the problem with the Democrats. Why are you so afraid to view other options and peoples opinions. Without even listening you have formed the WRONG opinion and made it a political response and NOT a very smart one at that. Oh well, IF you would listen to this man you might find he IS much smarter than you appear to be. But hey, don't let different viewpoints from the well educated get in the way of YOUR thinking. Sorry you feel a need to disrespect people instead of opening your eyes to some facts. You REALLY should give it a listen. It might just open your mind a little. No wonder nothing is getting done in the country people are ignorant to the problems we face and OTHER solutions or alternatives to fix them. I STILL suggest you listen, it won't hurt you and WILL help you. So sad!!!
TruthComesHere:
Praying to thin air is not the kind of qualification I look for in someone when I am looking for direction. I am not inclined to listen to the advice or wisdom of anyone who claims to hear voices coming from thin air.
I do not go down the line with the President on every issue. Never have. As a matter of fact, his belief in a god - any god - does not exactly float my boat. In my book, the President's presence at a "talk to the air" meeting does nothing to lend credibility to Carson.
Well how very telling, and predictable, the response to this speech from the right. Business as usual, the right-winger posters on this site tell us everything Carson said was true, EVERYTHING!! He perked up their ears by opening with several biblical citations, leaving the bible thumpers in such a state of awe, they apparently missed the first 15 minutes of the speech.
With their selective hearing aids, they only seem to have heard two components of his speech, his complaints about Obamacare and his rather odd biblical references to taxation that favors the rich. Of course, conveniently, they ignored his rather lengthy discourse on the importance of education and the dumbing-down of America. Education is, after all, a dirty word for those on the right.
But there you have it folks, in summation, Carson promotes education, health care for all, taxation that favors the rich, and oh, his cute little statement repeated repeatedly (for what redundant purpose I have yet to figure out), that he doesn't mean to offend anyone.
I challenge the "praise Jesus" crowd to rise from their knees, hit the rewind button, and listen again to the speech, in its entirety.
If you want to get laid, go to college. If you want an education, go to the library.
I just watched the speech. This guy is amazing!!! An intellectual black man who is conservative!! He would make an awesome president!! Unfortunately I dont think either party would embrace his ideas since he mentioned the fourth branch of the government, the special interest branch, that pretty much controls both parties. I dont know how anybody can criticize anything this man said. I guess it's called closed minded to different ideas other than the status quo. If he did run I think Thomas Sowell would be a great pick for vice president.
Those of you from the right are gong to denigrate Think Progress, Hufington Post, Media Matters and refer us to Real Clear Politics?
Interesting...
The only BIG things about this Amateur King are his humongous ears and his arrogant and gigantic ego.
Who is the "Amateur King"? I have never heard of him.
WOW! What a GREAT reply Job1!
Way to go buddy! Showing your big intellect!
HAHAHA!
His name is "Odumbo" ... the flying President ! The Rookie-in-Chief has failed our country in the matters of debt increase, unemployment and respecting existing laws.
Wow, you stumped me. Who is "Odumbo"? I don't know who this could be.
You describe him as "the flying President ! The Rookie-in-Chief has failed our country in the matters of debt increase, unemployment and respecting existing laws."
You must be talking about W. Bush. However, I never heard of W. Bush being referred to as "Odumbo."
Here is the real village idiot and his resume. He ran an oil company that could not find oil in Texas.
George W. Bush's Resume
Aaah, back to Bush .....deflecting we shall go, deflecting we shall go, hi ho the merry o, deflecting we shall go ..... !!!
Worst president ever in the history of the US. Glad to say that I never served under his administration. What a dud......
According to Mr. Obama's inauguration address going big means focusing on gun rights, gay rights and illegal immigration while the the debt grows, the economy is stagnant and unemployment remains about 8%. Want to go big? Address the REAL problems we have in this country because those you mentioned in your inauguration or not as important, if important at all, when the country is collapsing financially. And Obamacare and the nightmare associated with that is yet to come. Four more years? God help us!!!
Thank God for President Obama!!! I hate to think of what life would have been like having the likes of McCain/Palin following W. Bush and his policies that bought the Nation to our knees.
We are truly blessed!!!
Job1 - How did Mr. Bush bring us to our knees? Are you thinking maybe the collapse of the housing industry? You do know that that mess started with Mr. Carter forcing banks to give loans to people even though they didn't or may not qualify? And then was further enhanced by Mr. Clinton. I don't know what you mean? Maybe it is the wars we ended up in. While I am unsure of the reasons for Iraq we DO know that al-Qaeda was training and plotting for attacks against us from Afghanistan. Do you think we should have left them alone so they could potentially do more damage to us? Do tell what you THINK brought us to our knees. You do know that Mr. Obama has increased our debt more than Mr. Bush right? ((CBS News) The National Debt has now increased more during President Obama's three years and two months in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency.) And this is NOT from Fox as you would probably suggest but CBS. Oh and just wait until Obamacare kicks in and the taxes required to pay for that nonsense. Open your eyes a little more you might see things for how they really are. You think we were brought to our knees? Hmmm...hate to see where we are brought to if we don't get our debt under control our economy moving, and our unemployment of 8% reduced. THOSE are OUR problems we face.
It is bush/cheney's Great Recession. Always will be, just like it is Hoover's Great Depression. That and two unfunded wars combined with tax cuts. Can you say fumble? Remember, cheney said "Deficits don't matter.".
You do know that the deficit has been going down for three years in a row now, don't you?
National Debt Graph by President
Boy you really are "MILKING IT" .... the total national debt continues to rise !
Decreasing deficits is nothing to brag upon .... it is like saying "we only got beat by 27 points this year, and it was 33 points last year".
Actually, here are some facts:
94% of the national debt belongs to just 3 people, Reagan, Bush and Bush-Cheney
Obama needs to create some debt, in order to match these guys.
Obama has actually been pretty stingy about creating new debt.
http://reaganbushdebt.org/CalculationDetails.aspx
Lol you are a laughing idiot
Obama go big?? He would have to actually lead and work a compromise with Republicans if he wants to go big, from what I have seen, this will not happen! And from what I have heard on his plan for the economy to once again spend our way out of this recession (which he has tried before and did not work), I don't see anything big and bold coming out of his second term. Just the same usual nonsense!
He would also have to find Republicans willing to compromise. Not bloody likely.
A good leader will find a compromise, A good leader, Obama is not!! He is a divider, and will get nothing done in his second term if he does not change his ways!
Compromise is a two way street. You can't go into negotiations thinking that it is your way or the highway and that is exactly how Obama and the dems enter the room.
And Job1, reaganbushdebt.org? Now that's an unbiased name for a website if I have ever seen one. Are they an arm of Huffington?
Yes...a divider...just look at all the horrible things he's made Conservatives say about him.
Obama is the one who created this environment of hostility! Do you remember any Republican's hostility when Clinton was President? Both parties actually worked together because Clinton was a good leader and knew he needed to compromise to get things done and he did. Obama could use lessons from Clinton.
Ah, yes...Conservatives loving Bill Clinton...he was a great leader...and 15 years ago you couldn't stand him.
The irony continues.
Clinton at least had common sense to change directions somewhat when the House, under Gingrich, went largely conservative. Obama merely plays the blame game.
Compromise? Didn't President Obama give the republicons 98% of what they wanted, and they walked anyway causing our national credit to be downgraded for the first time ever? The actions of you republicons puts the lie to your words.
Duh Patriot, You tell me Obama created the environment of hostility? What about McConnell's speech before the votes were even all in four years ago, claiming the GOP's only objective was to ensure that Obama was a one term President?
The only thing big tonight is going to be the usual bloviating rhetoric which will amount to tax, spend, usurp constitutional rights, and since I have no leadership skills here are bunch of executive orders I could never get through congress.
Does the name Gingrich ring a bell?
Obama: I won the election, we need a balanced plan, one that puts the burden of tax on the rich.
We need green jobs, we need more government/union workers, large government is the way out of this mess I took over 4 years ago.
Next we need more money to spend on green jobs, pipe dreams, clambakes.
I won the election, the people want what I want.
Well that's it America, oh look at the time, need to grab the ole' remington 870 and head to the range and bust few caps.
Christopher Dorner, if you can read this, I want you to know that I beleive in your innocence. You acquired all of your firearms legally and I have it on good authority from the pro-gun lobby that criminals do not acquire weapons legally so you can not possibly be a criminal.
Oh, no...the solution, according to Wayne LaPierre, is that we need to create a national database of the mentally ill and that will solve everything.
It's ironic...the NRA doesn't trust the government to determine what is an "assault weapon" so that they can be banned but they trust the government to determine what is "mentally ill" and create a database to track individuals with mental illness to keep them away from guns.
I wonder, would Christopher Dorner have fallen into the category of "mentally ill" in Wayne LaPierre's worldview?
Many that hate any type of gun control are uneducated white men who think that carrying an assault rifle will make them bigger men.
Owning and using a gun should be like owning and driving a car. Regulate training, register and license. Had these steps been in place 25 to 50 years ago, we most likely would not be having this debate.
Guess what, the second amendment would have still been in place, and the Nations People would be seeing a lot less gun deaths.
More BS from BJ 1 ?
Even more are law-abiding citizens who simply desire to protect themselves and their families within their second amendment rights !
Libs want government control of everything.
Is it part of the solution? Yes. Is it the whole solution? No.
Your childish taunt aside, this merely serves as an example of something I've said all along...you can pass all the background checks in the world and seem like the sanest person on the planet and still have a bad day.
The majority of the people ( the ones with common sense) agree with me. However, there are people that live in the shadows or the fringe that fear their own shadows!!!
92% of Americans are in favor of gun regulations. Leftisfascist must be one of those 8%ers. What does this individual have to hide? Gun running maybe?
Gun control: Surge in support, new poll shows - Los Angeles Times
@ Da
Look here brother, who you jivin' with that cosmik debris?
First black elected president (twice). First president re-elected in spite of high unemployment. See a pattern here? This president is atypical. I don't see this president sitting still for having a meaningless two years at the end of his term.
yeah its all about playing the race card.
Yes our current President is Community Organizer, a College Professor, Lawyer, Successful Book Author, State Senator, US Senator and President of the United States.
Oh, by the way, what is the failed former half term Governor doing? You know the one the Republican party tried to push on the Nation, in 2008.
Navyvet, only in the coccoon in which you've cloistered yourself is pointing out a fact considered "playing the race card".
Watch out where the huskies go,
and don't you eat that yellow snow.
Obama Claus can be as "big" and as "bold" as he wants. The fact remains as long as Republicans control the House (and can filibuster in the Senate), he's limited as to what he can do. Obama is incapable of bringing this country together on any issue. Unfortunately, I don't think anybody could. Our glory days are behind us for good.
The Pres is a wimp. The only thing that's going big is his head.
Bold or BS............ another great obama speech about how it is not his fault.. if we spend it.. they will come... and despite what you see, you are better off now that the liberal messiah has come.
Tomorrow.. the same 'ol worthless crap. It like watching a replay of Stalin's speeches.
A blatantly partisan speech in a state of the union address... I go back to Kennedy's speeches. They at least tried to inspire and unite the nation as they laid out their agendas. (OK, Nixon sucked at that...but he tried). This one apparently will go out of his way to tick off nearly half of the nation.
While you can blame Obama for some of that, we are just as much to blame. All you have to do is read the partisan bickering on comment sections like this. There is little to nothing "united" about the United States anymore, and I can't imagine anything that will truly unite us again.
How come your big and bold blunderer in chief never got OBL and even gave up looking for him after only 6 months?
And then proclaimed "Mission Accomplished" anyway?
President Obama got OBL. Mission Accomplished.
Miklit:
1. I thought Bush sucked and voted Libertarian in 2004 (and 08 and 12).
2. The president ok'ed the raid by which Navy Seals got UBL--an easy call with few political ramifications. If the mission had failed, the nation would have been OK with the attempt because of the target involved. The Seal that shot UBL appears to have been crapped on by the military/government of which Obama is CIC.
BTW: Is Gitmo closed yet? Are we totally out of Iraq and Afghanistan? Has the Patriot Act been repealed? Oh, wait, how about executing US citizens with drones without due process? Admit it if you have the guts, Obama is continuing Bush's policies in many ways and some of his own policies are even worse!
Hey fisty red head, and the other left wing nuts...how interesting that you site huffington post, politico, mslsd, nbc, etc as your source of information to criticize Fox News or any talk shows that is above your intellect. Good job keeping the uninformed in line!!
After tonights big address, Obummer leaves on a 3 city tour........
Hey Oblunder get your azz back to the white house and get to phucking work already.
Ho-lee-cow; I have to admit that when I read your post, I started to hear the "Gilligan's Island" theme song.
So tired of all the politics. The problem with this country is we have NO DIRECTION! I blame that on both parties. Yes we need to find a way to balance the budget and that does mean cuts but also means we need additional revenue now to pay off some of the debt we already have. This country also needs a bold direction, something to strive for. Why are we here? What is our goal? At this point we need new bold ideas for the next century. Why not focus efforts on new frontiers? New green energy, new transportation technologies, space. Those do take money but the payoff for that investment are jobs.
Bold, aggressive, get ready GOP he is about to call you out,,,
Yeah, sure .... Obama will "call you out" to a water pistol contest !
Tell me genius, when will this financial moron in the White House ever have a BUDGET done as required by law ?
Snore..............................wake me up when he's done wasting America's time.
What worries me is Obama "wasting" our country's financial stability .... Chicago "gangsta" style !
A wise man makes his own deicsion, an ignorant man (Obama) follows public opinion
Jim, He might have a budget soon after the House submits one, LIKE THE LAW REQUIRES.
@John Bryant #25.5, Apparently, you missed some basic education along the way.
The President SUBMITS a budget proposal every year (and Obama is late this year).
The House then submits a BUDGET (Obama's proposals have never had the first vote from a Democrat).
The Senate then passes its version (never been done under Harry Reid).
Then the details are hammered out, compromises are made, and President signs (hasn't happened).
Jim, why do you suppose Reid hasnt let a budget come to the floor? Could it be because Boehner cant deliver a grand bargain? Could it be because the only thing congress is able to do well is name post offices? Or perhaps because the GOP idea of compromise is cutting social security and medicare? Until then.....it will happen one piece at a time, just as it has been.
See what happens when people like John Bryant watch Fox?
Obama will have to go big just to pull his oversized head out of his a$$. He is a complete idiot, and so are his mindless moronic followers. Bull Sh*t is Obama's only strength.
He needs a plexotomy... that's a glass navel so that he can see where he's going....
Let me see he is going to go big. New stimulus plan, higher taxes on the rich, push gun control, amnesty, gay rights. These are his ideas of going big. Let us see what he says about the deficit or the economy. Bet not much because he doesn't care about the debt and he doesn't understand the economy.
