Obama to focus on the economy in State of the Union… A reminder: As the economy goes, so goes Obama (and his second-term agenda)… The speech, politically, also will be a way to frame the sequester debate… Rubio’s chance in the spotlight… And the danger for Hagel: having his confirmation vote linger.
As NBC's Tracie Potts reports, the president's State of the Union speech "will outline his plan to create jobs and grow the middle class by investing in people."
*** Focusing on the economy: President Obama’s inaugural address last month was billed as a call to action, as well as a not-so-subtle declaration that American politics had been transformed -- on the role of government, on gay rights, and on war. But tomorrow night’s State of the Union will have a slightly different focus, White House aides say, with Obama emphasizing the economy and revisiting the economic themes from his re-election campaign. The speech “will outline his plan to create jobs and grow the middle class by investing in people,” an administration official tells First Read, adding: “The president’s plan grows the economy from the middle out by investing in manufacturing, clean energy, education, and infrastructure.” Obama also will call on Congress to reduce the nation’s deficit and debt, including via entitlement reform, but he will say these cuts need to be balanced and not borne solely by the middle class. The White House always viewed his two big speeches in three weeks (the inaugural and State of the Union) as two bites at the bully-pulpit apple. And the same administration official calls the two speeches “two acts in the same play.” While the White House maintains they have been focused on the economy, tomorrow’s speech will put an end to the chatter (they hope) that they haven’t spent enough time TALKING about the economy.

President Barack Obama speaks during an Armed Forces Farewell Tribute in honor of outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta at Joint Base Myer-Henderson in Arlington, Va., Feb. 8, 2013.
*** A reminder: As the economy goes, so goes Obama (and his second-term agenda): Yet with Obama spending his political capital on his proposals to curb gun violence and reform the nation’s immigration system -- which he’ll also address on Tuesday -- reemphasizing the economy allows the president to return to the issue that remains the public’s top concern. After all, the unemployment rate, while down substantially from its high in 2009, is at 7.9%, and GDP contracted in the fourth quarter of 2012. And according to our national NBC/WSJ poll, only 36% of respondents said they were either “very” or “fairly” confident in Obama’s ability to promote a strong and growing economy. Remember, if the economy slows down, it makes it harder to get anything else done (like on guns or immigration).
*** Framing the sequester: Another way to look at Obama’s State of the Union is to frame the budget debate over the looming sequester -- that is, the automatic spending cuts (in defense and other programs) set to take place in March. As Politico writes, “President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech will be less a presidential olive branch than a congressional cattle prod. Emboldened by electoral victory and convinced the GOP is unwilling to cut deals, Obama plans to use his big prime-time address Tuesday night to issue another broad challenge at a Republican Party he regards as vulnerable and divided, Democrats close to Obama say.” More: “Privately, administration officials see [the speech] as an extension of Obama’s unabashedly provocative and progressive Jan. 21 inaugural address, their latest attempt to leverage favorable deals on the sequester and the debt ceiling comparable to the watershed deal Obama secured on increasing taxes on the wealthy. Obama now hopes to use his post-election popularity to force new tax increases and fewer budget cuts on Republicans as part of any deal to avert a $1.2 trillion menu of automatic cuts increasingly likely to kick in on March 1.” This won’t be as easy as the fiscal cliff because Obama has got to get Congress to pro-actively stop it. And right now, House Republicans seem nearly unified on the idea of letting the cuts happen.
*** Rubio’s chance in the spotlight: In addition to Obama, there’s another person who will be in the spotlight on Tuesday night -- Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who is giving the GOP response. This is a great opportunity for the potential 2016er. But as we noted last week, the State of the Union responder hasn’t been a great stepping stone for those looking to run for higher office. In fact, the last eventual party nominee to deliver the response was Sen. Bob Dole (R-KS) in 1996. And the last person to deliver one and go on to be president was Bill Clinton in 1985 when he was governor of Arkansas.
*** Do you have to let it linger? Finally, while it remains pretty clear that Chuck Hagel still has the votes to be confirmed as the president’s defense secretary, any day that goes by when there’s not a vote isn’t a good day for him. That said, Politico reports that the Senate Armed Services Committee could vote on Hagel’s nomination as soon as Tuesday, “but Republican aides reacted to that idea by suggesting that some members could walk out in protest.” Democrats and the Obama White House, if they want him confirmed, can’t let his nomination linger.Click here to sign up for First Read emails.

Drones:
The history of warfare has been constantly evolving. The arrows shot from longbows could penetrate the chain mail of knights and ultimately the fall of feudalism; soldiers no longer line up in straight rows and fire on each other, and horses gave way to tanks. We have evolved from bombing cities with nuclear weapons to pinpoint strategic strikes on a house or a car. Unmanned airplanes, i.e. drones, are the next step in the progression of warfare that is reminiscent of an old "Star Wars" movie.
Already research and development departments are making drones faster, more silent, hover longer, bigger, smaller, and more stealth-like. Other countries are creating their own drones and soon the US will no longer be the sole proprietor of this weapon. This is one more example of how technology has outpaced government policy makers.
Today legislators are asking questions like,"Who has the authority to kill an enemy combatant?" "What if that person was born in America?" "In this new era of warfare, where is the battlefield?" Conservatives are saying that President Obama should not have the power to determine who lives and who dies. Liberals may trust Obama to have such power, but do not want a future Republican (like arrogant Chris Christie) to make life and death decisions. These conversations are too little and too late. And Congress: Well they relinquished their power to declare war a long time ago by passing the presidential war powers act.
Drones are already being used to patrol the borders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. While there is a camera on every corner in big cities like New York, it won't be long until drones will be used like police cars to monitor American citizens. Drones will be a part of American life and those who will dislike them the most will be the extreme right-wing militia types.
Do I like drones defining what we are becoming? No, not particularly. But we continue to move toward a new normal that will include hundreds of drones. War and privacy will be redefined.
Further evidence there is a reason it's known as the NewsforDumbFux Network;
Sadly, the stuck on stupid crowd can't get enough of it their martyrdom...
There was a theft of numerous personal e-mails from members of the Bush family, after an apparent hacker leaked the e-mails and Bush family photos to the Smoking Gun's Web site.
The Smoking Gun's report, posted late Thursday (2/7), included excerpts from e-mails in which the children of former president George H.W. Bush discussed his severe illness in December and made plans for a possible funeral.
The site also posted paintings made by his son George W. Bush — including purported self-portraits of the 43rd president in the shower and the bath.
Two months ago, the Smoking Gun said, the 43rd president sent his sister photos of two paintings he was working on. One was a self-portrait in the shower, viewed from the back and from the waist up. Another showed him in the bath, gazing out at his legs and toes.
WOW…painting himself in the nude? Gross, George, you haven't changed. If you paint George Clooney or Katy Perry or even Saddam this way, we won't complain.
But this hack attack is the final evidence W has been waiting for that the WMD actually exists. Welcome to the 21st century.
We miss you, George! No, I am kidding. But don't choke over pretzels again. Behave, George.
THE SEQUESTER: Is the product of GOP's hostage-taking strategy. Yet the GOP Lie Machine is trying to blame the Sequester on President Obama.
1) In 2011, GOP congressionals were lockstep on holding the debt ceiling hostage. And among others, Sen. Lindsay Graham took credit for it.
2) GOP's offer was non-negotiable: $2 trillion in debt reduction, or they'd crash the economy.
3) The President negotiated: $1Trillion in spending cuts were made. GOP demanded more.
4) The Super-Committee was created to work on a bipartisan deal.
5) When it failed & GOP refused to compromise - again, the Sequester back-up plan was created.
6) Sequester: $500 billion in domestic cuts, and $500 billion in cuts to military spending. GOP refused the truly equivalent pound of flesh = tax revenues.
7) U.S. AAA credit rating downgraded due to GOP-created economic uncertainty.
8) Today: GOP is refusing to compromise once again.
9) ---NOW trying to blame the Sequester on the President.
The Sequester was part of GOP's self-created crisis and hostage-taking in 2011.
In 2011, Speaker Boehner said he got "98 percent" of what he wanted.
GOP wanted this Sequester.
They got it.
Those of us who see the world with clarity have known for a long time that Obama is a man of deeply flawed character who will say anything to suit his purposes of the moment. That affliction inevitably leads to instances of brazen hypocrisy that reveal this man for exactly the incorrigible dissembler he is – except to those still drinking the kool-aid, of course. So as a public service for these lost souls, I will help lift the veils of ignorance from their eyes.
The latest episode involves Jack Lew, the president's nominee for Secretary of the Treasury. Many folks will recall that during the 2012 campaign Obama excortiated his opponent for having a "tax haven" in the Cayman Islands. Well, it turns out that Mr. Lew did too. Not only that, but Lew's Cayman investments were housed in the same facility that Obama had called the "largest tax scam" in the world.
So if Obama were to be consistent and judge Lew by the same standards he used in his gutter campaign against Romney, then Lew would be just as unfit for office as Obama insisted Romney was. The White House is pushing back with the lame rebuttal that Lew didn't break any laws and paid all appropriate taxes on his Cayman holdings. Well ummm, Romney did the same. But Romney's mere compliance with the law was demonized as being an insufficient standard for someone seeking high office. Yet now we are expected to embrace a man for the key post of Treasury Secretary who participated in what Obama said was the world's biggest tax scam.
This president is a shameless hypocrite, plain and simple. Remembering that will be helpful in wading through the inevitable bull$hit in his SOTU tomorrow.

Q. Why are GOP officials trying to blame the Sequester on the President? And why now?
A. Because of the devastating SHOCK to our economy, if the Sequester is imposed.
"Federal spending is scheduled to reach historic lows thanks to the Budget Control Act, which placed caps on spending as part of the deal to raise the debt ceiling in the summer of 2011.
Non-defense spending is already 14 percent lower than it has been at any time in the last half-century, and it could go even lower if the so-called “sequester,” a series of automatic budget cuts that will begin to take effect at the beginning of March, is allowed to occur." (Travis Waldron)
Massive job losses, for starters:
Sen. John McCain warned that “over 1.1 million defense-related jobs will be lost".
Same principle applies re GOP-preferred non-defense spending cuts = Millions more jobs lost.
Now is not the time for job-killing cuts/austerities.
We know that employment would be humming now -- If not for GOP refusal to create jobs, Republican governors firing 700,000 government workers (= 1.1 million related jobs lost). And GOP-created crises at every turn.
GOP's plan to tank the economy, and victimize ordinary Americans has not changed.
The richt wing of the republican party don't have a clue on how government works or even that this government should be one of, by and for the people not of by and for the corporation, it don't even mention rich folks are special. In the history of this government we have cut taxes since John Kennedy and cut taxes from the rich at an alarming rate and now we a suffering the consequences of running up the tab. Which by the way is the republicans answer. Being accused of being a tax and spend democrat is not quite as bad as being a borrow and spend republican. At least democrats pay for their folly's, which by the way is things people can use, republicans spend and then borrow to pay for it.
Yaaaawwwwnnnnn….. zzzzzzzzzzz
Looks like Barry is going to make another long-winded and
boring hot air contribution to global warming tomorrow night in the SOTU. I
expect it will be the same old, same old, standard Barry BS and do not even
plan on watching it. If he does say anything worth hearing it will be all over
the news Wednesday. Maybe he will tell the American people how he plans to be
focused like a laser on jobs and the economy (LMFAO!!!!!). I also see where he
plans to hop in his really tricked-out sky ride and go on a road trip further
adding to the global warming problem.
Life is good.
Enjoy.

From Politico:
Obama’s State of the Union: Aggressive
By: Glenn Thrush
February 11, 2013 04:41 AM EST
President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech will be
less a presidential olive branch than a congressional cattle prod.
Emboldened by electoral victory and
convinced the GOP is unwilling to cut deals, Obama plans to use his big
prime-time address Tuesday night to issue another broad challenge at a
Republican Party he regards as vulnerable and divided, Democrats close to
Obama say.
He’ll pay lip service to
bipartisanship, but don’t expect anything like the call for peaceful
collaboration that defined his first address to a joint session of Congress
in 2009, they say.
That strategy has its dangers: If
Americans perceive Obama as too partisan, he’ll lose a serious share of his
personal popularity. Yet he needs to burn political capital — and keep the
GOP on the defensive — to force the opposition into accepting more taxes and
fewer budget cuts as part of a deal to avert the $1.2 trillion-dollar
sequester cuts looming on March 1.
State of da Union
From the article above:
Tuesday night will be Barack Obama’s fourth State of the Union Speech; first of his second term as a twice elected Democrat President.
And I might add;
Barack Obama has won more popular votes than any Democratic candidate for president in history—except Barack Obama in 2008. Courtesy of John Nichols, The Nation, Nov. 9. 2012.
As we watch the speech, two-term Democrat Vice-President Joe Biden will be to the left of President Obama, and Boehner McNumbnuts will be on his right.
Rightfully so, I expect an honorable tribute to the new angels and good citizens of Newtown, Connecticut, followed by a few passionate words about gun control in our country.
Then he might talk a few brief minutes about climate change. I saw an unbelievable picture this weekend of a Bostonian shoveling snow from his walk while looking at his street which had overflowed from the cold Charles River. Looked like a freaky frozen Ghostbuster’s movie.
He will reiterate changes he’s made to his cabinet, talk briefly about foreign policy, go over his ideas for immigration, and there will be a moment when the joint-congress will give the troops a well-deserved standing ovation.
But most of all, the President will speak about the growing economy and talk about jobs and green technologies, and point out all the good things that have happened during his first term. He will also talk about how better things CAN happen if only congress would stop the daily BS.
There will be thunderous applause from the Left side of the aisle as a close-up shot shows Eric Cantor tweeting on his Twitter. At this point, Boehner will have his Joe Wilson “You lie” moment. He will wobbly stand up, look around the congress, raise an empty hand as if clutching a glass and shout out “Manhattan’s for everyone!!!”
We now interrupt this program to bring you the following message:
“Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself”.
Mark Twain
P.S. TomasGrande is at a seminar this week but I will return next Monday with more jabs and zingers and I shall enjoy reading your posts in the evenings.

Oh my .. we went to war in Iraq to uncover half-lewd self-portraits, or otherwise known as GWB WMDs? Oh, the irony - excuse me while I go hack!!
Focus on the economy now? Why now? Why has he not been focused like a laser for the last 4 years? Raising Soc. Security taxes helps how? Obamacare starting to dig into the wallets as well. $5,100.00 on top of your priemium if you are a 61 year old smoker. If his speech does not include drastic help for the job creators, small buisness, then it is a useless speech! Like most of his speeches. Calling for higher taxes helps put who back to work? A realistic approach will be aired after the panderer's speech. Listen with an open mind.
Oh Bill Fairfax......what a load of bull arrogance. Typical male white conservative thinking................here's clear thinking for you Stuff It, you pompous twit.
Hi and well done Libs -
The sequester would result in cuts to:
Education (70,000 children off Head Start, 10,000 teachers jobs)
Small businesses (500 million loan guarantees cut)
Food safety (21,000 fewer food inspections)
Research and innovation
Mental health (hundreds of thousands of seriously ill untreated)
And cuts to: Social Security benefit and applicant services, senior meals, nutritional meals for women, infants and children, Emergency unemployment programs. 100,000 formerly homeless, including veterans wouild lose their housing. Mental health and substance abuse services. FBI and Law enforcement, U.S. Attorneys, Emergency responders. NIH research, NSF research, new drug approvals. Small business assistance, economic development, international trade. Food safety, workplace safety.
The GOP "cuts-only" approach would literally shred us to ribbons.
The insanity of the GOP austerity approach is borne out by the third-dip recession in Europe, and 25% unemployment rates there.
Already, the destruction of 700,000 public employee jobs has seriously hurt the economy and taken food out of our children's mouths. The slashing of military and civilian spending will do tremendous economic damage, impact military readiness, and over a million job losses.
Bill in Fairfax strikes again!
Instead of berating Congress for ALLOWING things such as offshore accounts and tax havens, he chooses to blame Obama. Yep, he just cannot wrap his head around the fact that the hypocrisy lies with those in Congress who refuse to change the laws that allow accounts such as this.
Hi Feisty,
They live in that Republican Bubble, in which facts can't get in. Opinions without facts equals ignorance!
Hoping the President gives an inspirational address tomorrow with his State Of The Union speech. We need to have him give one of those famous speeches he's been known to fire up the populous. With all the negative garbage coming out of the Republican Party we ALL need a positive and uplifting speech.
Now, Confirm Hagel and Bennet and let's move on.
Bill, I am glad only 47% seen president Obama as having a "deeply flawed character", and a "shameless hypocrite" and I am so glad you are one of them. However I was one of the 51% that seen reelected President Obama as being a fine family man, that cares for this country and its people very much and wants to work with those of us that happen to be in the middle class, and not those of you that are so disgustingly rich that you have become greedy shrews, rats in a pack so to speak of. One thing if nothing else was proven last election is, our country cannot be bought by rich guys like you scum of the country that would buy it to destroy it and force its people into serfdom.
Yet, Mr. Broccoli Bill will be sitting in his broken down Barco-Lounger, wearing his NASCAR jammies and chomping on his Cheeto's while watching every minute of it! l
OH the ANGST of the right wingers! LMAO
Amen to that Gingerbread Mamma!
On a positive note, at least he only had a half serving of broccoli last night!
Normally the steaming pile of the end result is much larger! ;o)
Why the disconnect?
Day after day we are subject to Republicans screaming about the debt and deficits. The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Cut spending, cut spending, cut spending NOW! It doesn’t end there either. They also like to scream about things such as sluggish growth and high unemployment numbers. “LOOK, LOOK,” they scream. “GDP growth dropped a percentage point!” It’s Obama’s fault! Unemployment ticked up? It’s Obama’s fault! It’s Obama’s fault! You get the picture.
What is really happening?
In the last quarter GDP growth contracted, it’s true. What caused that contraction? Government CUT spending, specifically, defense spending. That dinged! Ouch.
Now we see with the “sequester” looming, well over half a million people will get a pink slip. Ouch! That really hurts. The unemployment numbers just shot up. You get the picture.
The real problem here: Republicans. They DON’T get it. It’s that disconnect thing. Sheesh. Even a first grader can connect the dots.
Cut spending, growth takes a ding. Cut spending, REAL PEOPLE get laid off and UNEMPLOYMENT rises. What’s so hard to understand here?
Again, why the disconnect, Republicans?
Somebody want to clue Rand Paul in? In his interview yesterday on CNN he didn't seem to understand how it all works.
I see Magic 8-Balls and predictions are all the rage in Albany this week. Apparently, they tossed the ones that predicted "Romney wins by a landslide", "Romney best President Evuh", into the fireplace, along side their plastic champagne glasses.
I'll watch the actual, televised event, rather than rely upon some Joe-schmo prediction of what President Obama might or might not say.

I wasn't go to write today until I saw your post Ron.

Q: How come when a white man shoots up an elementary school of 1st graders, he’s regarded as mentally ill? Or when a white man shoots up young people attending a Bat Man movie, he’s mentally ill, when a white man shoots a US Congressman in the head and kills 6 innocent people; he too is mentally ill.
A: When it’s a black man doing the shooting…he’s "armed and very dangerous".
This puts me in mind of that Kenyan, Muslim, Dictator, King, FAKE President intent on destroying American sitting in the White House. All joking aside, it puts me more in mind of the fear of the Scary, Dangerous, Black Man syndrome. It's all about that nonsense of their fear of not having guns. These idiots are afraid of a Black Planet.

The LAPD are using him as a scapegoat they just opened fire on a vehicle of 2 women riddling it with bullets because the car was similar to Dorner's and killed them. Then they and the MSM blamed this Black man. “Mistaken” identity, crap. Why does the media always make news, instead of reporting it?

It'll be interesting to see if the Glenn Greenwald acolytes and right wingers com will be outraged this time.
Ron...excellent post. The technology of today is way ahead of the lawmakers and none of them seem to be ahead of the curve thus causing more problems because of their lack of foresight. If nothing else, one would expect that the Science Committees would be aware of these changes, yet when we look at who are on them, I suppose we expect too much.
The information is out there, this past week Time had a great piece on drones and the journalist, Lev Grossman, gave many examples of how drones are already in use in many of our daily lives. Once again the people are ahead of their government representatives.
Fairfax Bill writes:
I wonder if this is the same Fairfax Bill who tells others who have their own points of view that they are arrogant. Naaaaaaaaaah, probably not. This Fairfax Bill belongs to that elite group that sees the world with clarity. Yes, you can see why an elite guy, who sees the world with clarity, would know that those who disagree with him, are clearly arrogant.
Hard to say Obama's focus has returned to the economy when truth be told it never has been on the economy.
Ron, excellent post.
What troubles me about the current Drone debate is its focus on the who, what, where and when side in the USA when the debate should be focused on the global aspects of War by Robot. This technology should not be viewed through the USA's own narrow prism. As I posted last week, modern technology has surpassed the rules and laws previously established. That comment is not just true about USA rules and laws, it applies to the World's rules and laws. This debate about the use of Drones by the US both for peaceful uses and its use to wage war on enemies must expand to include the rest of the world.
Can someone tell me why, re Dick Durbin, there MUST be a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants? I can understand the DREAMERS, I can understand those that performed military service. But tell me why coming to this country illegally, as an adult consciously breaking the law, that you should have a path to citizenship? Why is a Green Card not enough? Why is the right to work not enough?
How is this not an open borders policy? After 1986, when the amnesty was supposed to be one off, what has changed. Unless there is a different proposal from the 1986 policy what will change in the future.
Or, is the policy of the Democratic Party completely open borders?
Seems to me you are saying that it's OK to play by the rules set by Congress. Isn't that what Romney did? Isn't that what President Obama does when he claims the foreign earnings deduction on his book sales?
Thanks Gingerbread Mamma and Jody:
Indeed technology has far exceeded the conventional thinking about drones. We are witnessing a new stage in warfare and surveillance.
Alan -- No. That's not what I'm saying. I've been railing about the tax code from day one. It's a mess and it's Congress' fault.
So Obama is going to focus on the economy again? I wonder if it will be the same laser focus he displayed during his first term. All Obama wants to do is try and get out from under the paltry cuts of the sequester he proposed be part of the Budget Control Act. On the campaign trail Obama stated frankly that sequester will never happen. Yet here we are on the doorstep to sequester, and this plan that Obama now regrets has him playing the blame game again. There is no doubt that the Obama administration proposed sequestration, Republicans went along with it, and now the country gets to live with it because paltry cuts in spending are better then no cuts in spending. All Obama wants to do is avoid any spending cuts, raise taxes, and propose more spending which he will outline in the State of the Union address. Even Pelosi said on Sunday it is a false argument to say Washington has a spending problem. So I guess when liberals complain about the spending Bush did, it wasn't the amount, it was only where he was spending it.
Red Head Fatty and Pigotry are out in full force defending their God...Owebama. I hope you dippy do's have some cream of wheat stored up cause you also need some water to make it too. Talking about drones. Go figure, can't possibly talk about a backward Obama economy can we? Must have got the White House memo, diversion!

Bravo, Bev. All too late, LAPD announced this weekend they are re-opening the investigation of the

By re-opening the file, let us hope we also become privy to the details. Unfortunately, he has already taken the plunge over the deep end and he cannot be saved- hopefully, we can gain insight and mend the reason for falling over the abyss.YO LEFTY? Please tell me any business in 'this' world that can spend way out of budget (actually not even have a budget) when the funds can't even keep up with spending. In the real world you couldn't pay the collections person for trying to collect your money, and you couldn't get a loan because the bank would actually look at your finances and see your income to debt ratio and LAUGH like it was a joke. THE JOKE IS ON US!!
I recommend when a lefty comes knocking on your door for help/food/water/etc...you ask them - "Who did you vote for" then decide if their choice is worth supporting when they would in reality be taking food from your kids mouths?? Cattle led to slaughter even then you will have the cameras rolling telling everyone how inhumanely your being treated. Soilent Obama is Sheeple your all eating Sheeple.

Last year, Fairfax Bill saw the world with such clarity that he just knew the polls were being skewed to coverup Mitt Romney's impending landslide victory. None of us lesser beings could comprehend his brilliant analysis. He's just too profound for me. That's why I usually stop reading his long-winded missives after the first sentence.
Ron, thanks so much for addressing the issue of drones. And, Jody, your comment was brilliant.
Technological advances are crucial to national security - we remember the advantage Germany had over us at the beginning of WWII. I've heard they have drones that are so small they can fly through a window and attack their target, like a horde of bees. With power, comes responsibility. Unfortunately, I don't trust Republicans not to politicize this discussion, so it looks like it will be up to us Progressives to address the moral implications of using drones.
You're kidding Johntho? Bill rich? He lives off the government. He's one of those tea people that keeps biting the hand that feeds him.
The republicans are really in their good hate form this morning. But nothing like the hate they'll spew on Wednesday morning. They just can't stand a well educated, articulate President. they're used to the drop out drugster Limbaugh and the lying fools over at Fox. Bill O'Reilly is caught lying, what does he do, he tries to lie his way out of it. The only thing tea people will believe is lies. To them truth equals lies.
Alan, NJ
Ask Marco Rubio. He's in favor of a pathway to citizenship, too.
Great liberal reading here this morning.
TOMASGrande, enjoy the seminar! Salud.
Fairfax Bill. Clarity? Seriously, "those of us who see the world with clarity", coming from the guy who claimed Mitt Romney would win along with dozens of equally unfounded bits of faux wisdom and "clarity" tells me that your pre-election blinders are still covering your eyes.
@Bev
But Bev, President Obama has extended 99% of those tax cuts, escalated the war in Afghanistan and expanded Medicare D (by closing the donut hole), so logically, if Bush created the deficit Obama has maintained it by following basically the same policies.
@DCIA
I believe we are talking about the President criticizing Romney for exploiting the loopholes in the tax code but giving Jack Lew a pass for the same behavior. Personally I don't care. I think the Treasury Secretary goes to a Wall St insider too often, and this pick seems no different. It's pretty obvious that Geithner supported Wall St more than Main St and I see nothing in Lew's background to suggest that he will be any different. It's a non-issue.
Amen Talk!
I find it hilarious that these racist left-wing loons have to eat their words about how all mass murderers are crazy white males!
LOL!
And now they post comments that attempt to minimize what this crazy-man is doing! Why? Cuz he'a brutha!
Just wait until he is killed in a fire-fight! OMG! They will be screaming how he was gunned down because of his color! I can hear it now!
LOL!
The President - has an opportunity - to come clean with the people of America - admit he doesn't really know how to get the jobs and economy heading toward prosperity - as seen by his 4 plus years in office
Quit playing the excuses and blame record - and get serious with the people about a real proven plan to restore jobs, the economy and faith in our leadership
Otherwise - he's just blowing more of the same and we'll continue - to get the same failed results
Wow - there is a source of Neo-Nazi/Conservative/Christian news. A more apt title would be Neo-NewsNation - the Whiter Brighter(Bart) Fair&Balanced News Source (aka DumbFuxNews).
Backhouse
Q. Why are GOP officials trying to blame the Sequester on the President? And why now?
A. Because of the devastating SHOCK to our economy, if the Sequester is imposed.
Backhouse, I am so tired of McCain roaming the earth trying to remain relevant. Does anyone know many times he been on Sunday talk shows? Too many; Ditto yje other "Drama Queen' Lindsy Graham.
Another address to blast another round of rhetorical nonsense- hyped up language that excites the mass of drones... kind of like watching scenes from the 1940's
So what could be discussed in this address? Four years of policy failures, gun control that has created an out of control situation that worsens by the day, a fiscal nightmare with our national debt reaching unprecedented levels under the watch of this administration. Make any and all illegals legal that pour into our borders on a daily basis. Maybe discuss how this is all Bush's fault. No mention of benghazi-gate no doubt. We need four more years to undo the past! yeah, and the first four weren't enough? How much time does it take- the voters are mesmerized and will hang on every word, being the first to post their own nonsense on Newsvine.
Yep, hopefully there will be a good game on tonite instead of watching such drivel.
I see the Dem Drones are once more Blaming everyone else but them selves for the ills of America, gee I could of sworn I read that THE SEQUESTER was an Obama and Dems concept and Idea, now they can live up to there own idea, so its a republican contraption. Just Amazing. All these Democratic Drones whom Sold there Souls to Lord Obama for the Freebees he Bought them with for there Votes, Just Amazing. Its a Shame how many Unpatriotic, Un American Traitors there are in our midst's. The Time to Save America is quickly Fading, and you Traitors beware, enjoy what your about to recieve. Nothing! Obama is the biggest Con-Man since Hitler.
Feisty..... you can tell your desperate just by how much you spew..... Were you paid by MSN to berate Fox News? Because your comments sound like you were.......
As for the President, it doesn't take FOX news to tell us that he is dropping the ball on so many things. People aren't that dumb. And it is just a matter of time, when everyone see how much of a hypocrite you liberals are.
Obama's latest polls 46% fav. , Wow have the mighty have fallen. All it takes is a rising unemployment number and a backwards quarter. 36% are very or FAIRLY confident in his economic ability. It should really be 0%. After all, what track record can you point to otherwise? I have as much confident in his SOTU speech doing something to help as those poor inner-city kids have hope that Obama will help them feel safe. NONE!
So the President's "focus" is returning to the economy?..... bet that will last about as long as it did all the other times.......
(But upon further thought, since the President has never expressed any ideas to date that would actually help the economy, hopefully, he will wander off yet again to put his 2 cents on some other unimportant topic he has "now" decided is important......Does the President suffer from ADD or is the economy just too much for him to understand and make decisions that will actually help America/Americans?)
Lest we forget, since the "Progressives" can't remember like the lemmings they are.
The President said he was going to focus on the economy 4 years ago. He said he would be creating good paying jobs 4 years ago. He said he would have the budget balanced within the first year of office.
I guess that is why Obama is working so hard with Republicans on his promises of six weeks ago to cut spending, since the Republicans agreed to increasing taxes.
My take is that the President has no clue on what to do except spend money that he does not have. His speech tomorrow will be about shoring up his piss-poor lack of fiscal responsibility by increasing taxes, but this time the increases will be on what's left of the middle class.

Bravo, Bev. All too late, LAPD announced this weekend they are re-opening the investigation of the
ignoreddismissed complaints. I don't, in any way, condone the actions of this man, but I have empathy for his plight and the ongoing forms of racism within LAPDThanks RedDevPS
Well, thanks again for making it totally clear to me that liberals when they can't back up their statements with the truth they resort to name calling of those whom disagree with them. It's all they have. Guess what Ron White says is true "You can't fix stupid". But, that goes without saying. Keep up the good work! I enjoy the entertainment of trying to defend the indefensible. Someday, maybe you'll truly understand. I'm however guessing, Not!
WOW I see the left is hard at it again today. Trying to make anything into a circus. They are the CLOWNS. so I guess that is there lifestyle. A bunch of carnies.
When are you going to have some actual info in your posts. I know when you get your uninformation from MSNDC you only get the left side of the info. Do NOT worry MSNDC will do your thinking for you.
The President will continue to focus on gay rights and gun control. He will spend about 2 seconds talking about the economy that he has ignored for 4 years.
Marcus D-4300696

Michele Bachmann uses liberal super PAC attack to raise funds

Well, at least his speech will focus on the economy. I hope he does more than just promote tax hikes. If that's what it takes to drive down the deficit, then I can see it happening, yet with just 85 billion in sequester cuts seeming bothering both parties, I fail to why tax hikes are necessary. Each side can point out the necessary cuts to avoid the sequester, yet each side has its pet programs which neither wants touched or at least touched very much. Show me the cuts and then lets' talk closing loopholes. Without the cuts, raising revenue by closing loopholes only gives the government more to spend, not eliminating the deficit.
And, as reported, any hit on the economy will lessen any chance of gun control or immigration reform from passing, so this alone should push our President into action and by that I mean, working with EVERYONE in Congress, not just his party, hoping the public will demand action. It's the reason they were elected, both Congress and the President. Get to work.
Alan -- Politics. BTW- Romney is on entirely different level when it comes to tax evasion. I believe Lew worked at Citibank and all employees had an opportunity to invest in the fund that is in question. The sum total of Lew's investment was approx. 54K. That said, the Congressmen who are questioning this are the ones that allow this to go on. That's hypocrisy at it's finest.
right wingers and left wingers.. you are all idiots.. all you do is nit pick at each other thinking your way is the correct way. Little do either of you know.. you are BOTH wrong!
ALthough I must admit .. the left wingers seem a bit more childish and immature. They get so mad and throw tantrums when people don't agree with them .. case in point .. look how upset the president gets when they don't agree 100% with his policies and bills he wants to pass .. so childish

I just assumed that the way Bill wrote, and the philosophy he stands up for, that he had to be one of the richest people in the world. With your path to educate me, I must now assume he is the dumbest person in the world. Thanks.

I think they should be allowed to apply for citizenship as well..... I just don't think they should be GRANTED citizenship ahead of those who have already been waiting in line for the past 8-20 years. That includes applying for benefits, especially in the form of welfare, because those other people can't.
Alan, can you tell us why there should NOT be a path to citizenship for the 11 million people who came here--some a couple decades ago--and were given employment to encourage them to stay often by the very republican party's powerful who rant against their being here? What is the alternative? Green cards are a perpetual state of second class people. The proposal is that they will go to the back of the line, must pay a substantial fine as well as back income taxes (they pay sales and other taxes already), plus pass a background check. Hardly an easy "path" to citizenship for people who likely are at the bottom of the income scale. Romney only demanded his lawn service fire the illegals because "I'm running for president..." for Pete's sake.
Perhaps if Reagan and other presidents preceding President Obama had "enforced the border" instead of turning a blind-eye, and encouraging the illegal hiring of them, the problem would not be so large. One more point is that when we keep cutting the size of government, laying off the people responsible for immigration and border security, we make it even easier.
Amy, thank you. Glad to see you out and about after that 31.9" of snow.

But Bev, President Obama has extended 99% of those tax cuts, escalated the war in Afghanistan and expanded Medicare D (by closing the donut hole), so logically, if Bush created the deficit Obama has maintained it by following basically the same policies.
And you are just like the Bold Face LIAR Eric Cantor.
Republicans now want Americans to believe this was all Obama's fault. Let's consider the evidence:
1. Republicans created the debt-ceiling crisis.
2. Republicans wrote the ransom note and named their price.
3. Republicans endorsed, accepted, and voted for this plan, saying they'd accept the consequences.
and 4. Republicans now refuse to compromise (again) to deal with the mess they created.
So we're supposed to believe this is Obama's fault? That's only true if you ignore literally every detail and pretend reality has no meaning.
Let's make this plain: the sequester is a key part of the ransom the GOP settled for during the debt-ceiling crisis they created. It's a little late to pass the buck now.
That said, if Republicans don't like the sequester, they have a terrific option available to them: they can cancel it and end this stupidity once and for all.

Lawd have mercy that's just too stupid. Beohner said 5 yrs ago the republicans were listening to the American people and would create J-O-B-S. How many J-O-B-S have the Republican created? NONE.
Apparently, all the Republicans have memory lost.
Unhappy-1583758
The Senate Democrats and Republicans agree with all of that, as hard as it is to believe.
There sure is a lot of Republican political posturing going on...the attack dogs McCain-Ayotte-Graham continue barking incoherently, Rove is trying to push out the T-crazies, Cheney calls President Obama's administrative selections '2nd rate' (what a hoot!), Jindal loses ground to Rubio as most popular non-white Republican...lots of jockeying - but no big changes in position. They are changing the labels they want to wear, but their hostility and inertia to the political directives of the President doesn't seem to change at all.
Really? You mean the one he has continually failed to address? While supporting other topics on the democratic slate such as: gun control, health care, immigration, gay rights, and balancing the budget?
Hopefully it's not just "talk" about fixing it like it typically is.
True, if it were a Tea Party survivalist on the loose, the right wingers would be spewing paranoid anti-government verbiage, like they did over Ruby Ridge and Janet Reno's hndling of the stand off in Waco, Texas.
But, I wouldn't be so quick to cry racism - the guy is a cop killer AND he targeted the family of a cop, which is unconscionable. The men you mentioned who are described as mentally ill did not once have careers as Christopher Dorner did, so technically, they were mentally ill in a way that Dorner is not. The guy had military and police training, and he has committed murder and indicated he is still targeting people, which truly makes him "armed and dangerous."
Beverly,
Maddowblog? Now that there is some funny stuff.
Oh I see you got rid of the links. Smart, though not proper, move.
@Bev
I simply point out that President Obama's economic policies are almost the same as President Bush. If Bush was responsible for the initial deficit (which I believe he was), why is Obama not responsible for the current deficit?
JodyIOWA: You can't blame all of this on Republicans. If liberals didn't encourage so much free education, free healthcare and welfare, then there would have been less of an incentive to stay. How dare you make the Republicans the scape goat! Why do we have teachers that have to continue to conduct classes in Spanish all throughout high school? Why don't you try cutting down on your ESL classes for a change and have them learn English like everyone else.
Obama has had at least 4 years to work on securing the Border and still nothing...... If you think it was that easy to secure the border wouldn't Obama have done it already? Yet you continue to blame past Republican Presidents ( failing to account for Clinton) that it was supposed to be secured. Again, your bias is showing.
Meanwhile Dr. Carson's speech has gone viral despite the MSM trying to suppress it!!!
So what are you claiming here? That only Republicans employ illegals? I don't think so. As to a statute of limitations. Are you claiming that the longer you have been here the more entitled you become to citizenship? The alternative is what the President did by EO, create a mechanism to allow them to work legally. Is that not sufficient to bring them out of the shadows?
As someone who was on a Green Card, and who knows many others who are still on a Green Card, you are talking nonsense. There are people who are very happy to be on a Green card simply to avoid Jury Duty. As to employment you are banned from performing work related to national security but a second class citizen you are not. Visa are different as you are sponsored by an employer and cannot change jobs. This is not true with a Green Card.
Fine. I agree. You know how long that will take given the current system? If they've been here for decades as adults, they'll probably be dead before they make it to the front of line.
So what?
No, we have to automate e-verify and beef up the pressure on employers. Called smart government not bigger government.
Houston!
I also believe they should not be granted Green Cards ahead of those who have been waiting in line.
Unhappy --
Congress is to blame. Presidents have come and gone yet the big problems never seem to get resolved. Why? CONGRESS. They are too busy perpetually campaigning so they can keep their government job. They have FAILED the people. They continuously avoid doing the hard work we put them in office to do.
Damn I thought we might actually get to discuss something important like the economy today...
At least no one has been crying about government waste yet while singing the praises of the "noble" CEOs and corporations that outsourced all our jobs? I wonder how much of what you spend on every product made in China leaves OUR system? Those wonderful people that shipped our jobs overseas and wreaked our economy. the same ones that cry about high tax rates, government waste, and have offshore tax/savings havens. Every time I see an "I" something, I think what a piece of chit that person is for buying something made overseas.
How and the f*** do you get any kind of "check" or "balance" for free? To have "something" like another person, another sensor, another back up takes up space, power, money, etc. To get a redundant chain would be to double or duplicate the entire chain/structure which would cost twice the amount of resources, power to run, take up twice the space, require twice the money to build, etc., BUT it would not fail as much since there is REDUNDANCY. Without redundancy a single component or person can cause the entire chain/system to FAIL. Our government should not fail, which is why our founding fathers put REDUNDANCY into our government. No chit they waste money, there is no way to have a robust system that does not waste more then a single chain would. It is called f***ing physics/math. STFU, quit crying about nothing, and pay your damn taxes. That or actually pay your workers a decent wage, cut out the middleman (government) and stop outsourcing EVERYTHING.
Gee I guess taxes have never been higher in the history of this country huh morons? We never had a 90% top tax rate with more tax brackets for approx 20 years when we were all AGAINST Communism now did we morons. The only decent jobs left are defense jobs and they all are paid for by taxes. All the rest of
the jobs have been shipped overseas by our great noble CEO's and corporations.
Let me guess you do not mind the 1/3 of your premium that your insurance company takes out as profits, that you will never receive any benefit from, not to mention insurance fraud. Gee how much waste is that and why are you not complaining about insurance companies? Brainwashed much into thinking how "wasteful" our government is. Considering the number one thing we spend tax money on is defense I do not see what all the crying is about. Besides the little in foreign aid we give out the majority of the tax money stays here in the U.S. besides the interest on the debt.
You morons act like there is some infinite money fountain that we can get money from that does not effect the "value" of the finite amount of resources/material we have on this planet. That a rich person can acquire more and more money without effecting what others make in this shared "closed" system. That bubble economics work... That only works when you have a bunch of jacka$$es all chasing after fake carrots. Why did the poor and middleclass LOSE money and the rich GAIN money when the top tax rate was dropped from 90% down to 70% back in the 60's? Why did all three groups not gain in money? Why did two groups lose and one gained? A closed absolute system and math maybe? The "rest" of the money went to other countries btw.
If only lobbying (legal bribery) did not exist here in the U.S. giving people the ability to change the laws to suit "their" needs and not those of the people, majority, masses, etc.. High taxes are like exercise, work, cleaning, maintenance, etc.. They suck, but they need to get done or be that way for a reason. Once you have 10 to 20 times more then what others have YOU HAVE ENOUGH. Anything more is being f***ing greedy, leave some for the others since the more you have the less others have.
(P.S. Every time I see someone calling another person "childish" for saying a "bad" word or calling someone "names" I LOL...it so mature of them.)
Don't carry it all: I agree with that too. I believe we are a nation with a political aristocracy, where both republican and democratic leaders can't see the plights of the working class. They don't realize that they are the ones who are rich and inflicting their rules upon the rest of us.
Starman,
What did Beverly say that is "wrong and misinformed"? Boehnor and Obama were getting to the "Grand Bargain" 10:1 cuts to tax increases. The House, Cantor and his buddies, stabbed Boehnor in the back and wouldn't pass it. The sequester was the only thing that would pass to avoid default. It was the only bill there to avoid default, Obama signed it.
That's the history. How is that a re-write? How is that not a ransom note?
Beverly is exactly right. Totally a Republican-fabricated problem.
The only reason they are OK with it now is because they think a tanking economy is still in their best interest. You got give it to them for their consistency: They'll go down with the ship if it makes Obama look bad. To hell with the rest of America.
Oh my god, and I thought Rush was clueless when he ranted on about the proper dosage of birth control was to pop one after each sexual encounter. ESL IS teaching people English, "like everyone else". Too bad IQ ratings aren't a litmus test for posting comments.

Amy B. Portland, ME,
Usually you and I agree. With all the racism coming from the right as well the history of institutional racism in this county I wanted to point out the scary scenario that is being implied, subtly that another "Black Man' is out to get you; be very afraid.
Yes, he is armed and dangerous. But, remember there are so many variables there. He was in the military. He may have PTSD.
What I meant is that students should not continue in the ESL classes after 2 years. Too many people are not learning English and taking the easy way out.
Focusing on the economy?? Are you serious?? I about lost my coffee through my nose when I read that. This administration has not cared about the economy in four years - why should they care now?
Oh, Obama will make the cursory comment about the economy but has no plans to fix it and quite the contrary. The LAST thing he needs is an economic recovery. You see narcissists have this belief that the public needs THEM and what in the world would we "need" Obama if the economy was actually doing great? We wouldn't need "infrastructure investment". We wouldn't need "welfare expansion". We wouldn't need "labor law changes". Everybody would be as happy as a kid in a candy store and wouldn't need Obama.
No, it is his PLAN to keep the economy down and continue his policies that have created the WORST economic recovery in U.S. history. But there are so many uninformed and unintelligent voters that will be too ignorant to actually see it so even though what he has done is DAMAGE the economy the uninformed will continue to support Obama for what he says. And then Obama goes back to the White House and literally laughs at how ignorant the people are.
No, Obama has not cared about the economy and has no desire to change that philosophy. No, this State of the Union will speak 90% about immigration, gun control, more tax revenue needed, and his need for "infrastructure". I can't watch it. It will be JUST like the State of the Union LAST YEAR which was JUST LIKE the year before which was JUST LIKE the year before which was JUST LIKE the year before. He is such a bad president he can't even come up with different things to say each year.
Actually Miss Feisty, these days I go beddy-bye with my Ravens t-shirt that says Super Bowl Champions -- with a bowl of Doritos nearby. Eat your heart out.
Alan,
You fail to understand. You posted

What you fail to understand is that you posted the truth. But bev an Roselle and Jobs1 And patriotic American can post in caps and bold face type. That makes the truth irrelevant. Like Joe the Hoe says
Say it loud enough and often enough and it becomes the truth.
It's just that by posting in caps and bold face type they think they are increasing the volume of their posts. when in fact the printed word has no volume control.
It is rare that someone rises to speak the truth and in such a manner that everyone should take the time to hear what he has to say. So I would put forth that such a speech did take place, and everyone should take a moment to listen. The problems facing this country are grave, and yet they have no hope of being solved with finger pointing, blame, or excuses. Here is the link.

Bill in Fairfax returns again, with a long-winded, right-wing diatribe focused on the supposed hypocrisy of President Obama.
How hypocritical is it that after the faux intellectual ramblings of his opening pararaph Bill's main points in his post are almost a word-for-word summary of a Marc Thiessen Op Ed in the Washington Post?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/obamas-hypocrisy-on-jack-lew-and-his-cayman-investment/2013/02/11/4382c754-73e9-11e2-95e4-6148e45d7adb_story.html?wprss=rss_todays-opeds
How hypocritical is it that the man who repeatedly said "Romney will win, and win decisely", accused the polls of being biased, and refused to accept statistical data as fact that now claims to "see the world with clarity"?
The right-wing talking heads are trying to create a false equivalency between Jack Lew's $56,000 investment in a Citigroup employee investment (Citigroup Venture Capital International Growth Partnership II) that is located in the Cayman Islands to Mitt Romney's millions invested in his own personal Cayman Island investment corporation.
Apparently they see no difference between a $56k investment in an employee fund and a self-owned Cayman Island investment corporation.
Apparently they see no difference between the qualifications and level of scrutiny required to be President of the United States and those required to be Secretary of the Treasury.
Apparently there is no difference between Romney not releasing his tax returns or details of his investments while running for the presidency and Jack Lew divesting himself of his Cayman Island investment (at a loss) when nominated for a treasury position.
Then again, anyone who claims President Obama ran a "gutter campaign" against a candidate whose surrogates questioned President Obama's citizenship, patriotism, and religion has such a distorted view of reality and aversion to facts that there is not much hope they will recover.
ttberated those who refuesed to agree with him as and refusedclaiims to "riticizes the left for
Those of us who see the world with clarity have known for a long time that Obama is a man of deeply flawed character who will say anything to suit his purposes of the moment. That affliction inevitably leads to instances of brazen hypocrisy that reveal this man for exactly the incorrigible dissembler he is – except to those still drinking the kool-aid, of course. So as a public service for these lost souls, I will help lift the veils of ignorance from their eyes.

Unhappy - I would liken it more to a plutocracy or corporatism. That's why we have so many lobbyists in Washington. They write the laws all too often these days.
How is that "Path to Prosperity Plan" working for the Republicans? I seem to remember in 2010 that they were signing another contract to fix the economy and win the 2012 election. That thought lasted about 24 hours, until abortion came up.
After all, radical Republicans have so much clarity.....
I heard Cantor say this weekend that military government jobs are sacrosanct while losing any other government jobs is just fine with him...talk about picking winners and losers......
But tomorrow night’s State of the Union will have a slightly different focus, White House aides say, with Obama emphasizing the economy and revisiting the economic themes from his re-election campaign.
Yeah freaking right...I expect this immediatly after he: 1.) defends his unlawful drone policy, 2.) expounds on gay rights, 3.) chastises those who aren't in "lockstep" with his policies, 4). further defend his outgoing s.o.s. for the Libya FAILURE, 5.) Further chide the rich for being so sucessful, 6.) blame Bush. It might not be in that exact order, but do please listen to how many times he mentions, "me", "I", "my", and you might get some idea of the level of narcissism this clown displays.

The 244 ACCOMPLISHMENTS of PRESIDENT OBAMA
http://kstreet607.com/2010/11/01/new-the-244-accomplishments-of-president-obama/
What accomplishments can you put in the Republican column? None at all, everything republicans have implemented is regressive.
P.S. IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING…
• The Obamas paid for the renovations of the private living quarters in the White House with their own money rather than using the funds provided to all new first families (2009)
• The Obamas reused many Christmas ornaments from previous White House trees rather than buy new ones (2009)
• The Obamas used LED energy-saving lights on White House Christmas tree (2009)
• Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; donated the award money for the prize to several charities (2009)
• Planted a garden for the White House’s vegetables and flowers (2009)
• Installed a swing set/playground for the Obama daughters and children of White House employees (2009)
• Held over 150 public town halls, press conferences, interviews, etc. in first year in office (2009) * Note: Official numbers are not available on such things, but this seems to be a new record high
• Less than 30 days of vacation in first year in office (2009) * Note: Official numbers are not readily available on such things, but this seems to be a new record low
…And A FAMILY MAN !
@ Feisty Redheaded Slut- "Further evidence there is a reason it's known as the NewsforDumbFux Network" You are a true liberal, exemplifying your naive ignorance to the world around you and your belief that Fox actually represents the ideals of Conservatism. No true Conservative prescribes to the filth that Fox News spews out of their worthless, shameful mouths. Fox is likely produced by liberals in an effort to slanderize what real Conservatism is, to cast fear into the hearts of the typical naive liberal; to warp and mold their feeble minds into believing that what you tell them is the truth, that is after all, the basis of liberalism. Fox is nothing more than liberal propaganda against Conservatism; this is how Hitler took control of Germany and it is how liberals are trying to take control of America...strike fear into the hearts of the people, put a face on the "bad guys", and then offer them "protection" in exchange for their liberty and freedom.
but do please listen to how many times he mentions, "me", "I", "my", and you might get some idea of the level of narcissism this clown displays.
Dan you do have a point. I've heard more about "him" than I can take the last 4 years and any more of his "opinion" will probably finish the flush. But I do find it interesting that white house aides say his address will have a slightly different focus. I thought his focus "was" on the economy and we're going to "revisit" themes from his re-election campaign. Wait is this all just another campaign? Are we just going to try to convince the American people to "stay the course" instead of actually doing anything? Anything at all?
Now I've heard it all - O'Reilly is a liberal. Gotta love the mind of the tighty-righties .. nary a conspiracy evades their ever watchful eye.
It took 4 years to realize this...
Our country was stupid enough to put President Bush back in office and now President Obama
Let the sequestration happen... spending cuts that actually will happen.
Our current government is so dysfunctional, they can't even tie their shoes, let alone run the government.
"Focus on the economy'
How funny! Does Oblama even know how to spell the word?
Alan, NJ
The deficit -- which has decreased since 2009 -- was caused by the combination of Bush tax cuts, Bush unfunded wars, Bush's unfunded Medicare mandate, and the spike in unemployment compensation and other hits on government revenue following the Bush economic collapse. Please specify what, exactly Obama contributed in addition to those factors besides his too modest stimulus package. Stop with the hand waving.
Unhappy, guess I hit a nerve. You didn't notice that I said "all" the presidents preceding Obama which includes some democrats. And you bet the repubicans deserve a big share of the blame because they are the UNFUNDED SPENDERS since Reagan sold them the line that deficits don't matter, let's borrow more to spend more on the military, cut taxes, and then become anti-government crowd--meanwhile they complain about how ineffective government is on things such as border security. Starve the beast yet expect the beast to keep those pesky undocumented folks from crossing the border to take the jobs Americans won't touch. The truth hurts, so Unhappy becomes irate.
Who will this country blame in the real histroy books.
1. Obama
2.Harry Reid
3.Nancy Pelosi
4.The fake ass news ABC,CBS and NBC.
If you don't like fox news or am radio stop tuning in lolololol
And Because you have to pass the bill to see what's in it.
Will this 'focus' be the same 'focus' that Obama placed on jobs in his first term?
If so, we're screwed
.
"So, it isn’t as much of a spending problem as it is a priorities, and that’s what a budget is, setting priorities." - Nancy Pelosi
Can anyone be that genuinely stupid? Of course not. Let's just keep kicking the can down the road Nancy. Besides, all that really matters is that we get re-elected. Everything else is of no real significance.
Those people affected by Sandy still living without resources who voted for Democrat must really be feeling like total saps right now.
Oh gee - looky here: mounds and mounds of entitlement junkies pizzing and moaning about how the gravy train has derailed. After all this time, they STILL can't believe the party's over. Good Greece, eh? I'm not sure who coined the saying "the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money", but he/she was certainly right on the mark!
Don't carry, want to bet? " One less post filled with drivel from you on Wednesday"
Being ignorant don't stop them from posting now, why would not watching stop them now. They will come in here Wed. regardless, they will have Fox talking points but no real facts.
Mr. Obama has a "laser beam" on JOBS AGAIN.
Time for Mr. Obama to put new batteries in his "laser", or mabye just replace it since it is getting worn out.
Let the sequestration budget cuts happen and see the Progressive complain that they don't have any more hard earned American money to spend of Social Engineered Equality Programs at their leisure.
I bet he won't mention how his Obamacare is hitting the economy and people's pockets (well those that work). I bet his idea will be "more stimulous", more, more, more after all this cronies and contributors are running out of money and they sure can't suffer like the rest of the working folks.
RedDev- Is that the only thing your tiny little mind could comprehend out of all that? And you obviously didn't even comprehend THAT. Your blatant ignorance is hysterical and your uncanny ability to be so naive makes me feel sorry for you. You worship your president and are so completely blinded by his cheap thrills that you have no idea what he's really doing, no idea what's coming. Your mind is weak, go chew your cud and wait for tomorrow.
JodyIowa:
While I agree that Republicans deserve some of the blame for the deficit, most democrats like to put ALL of the blame on them. Obama is responsible for the deficit we have now! He has maintained it, by continuing to spend, therefore they are now his deficits. Only a fool would continue to believe that all of the problems are caused by the previous administration.
Frankly, you are a little out of touch. There are not that many jobs anymore that Americans won't touch. So keep spewing that lie..... You will find that older people are willing to take jobs as cashiers, food service, etc. I find that a lot of younger people are willing to take those agricultural jobs as well.
Bev - you exposed your inner racist back in 2008 - sad - did you move past that yet - or does it still factor into your thought process?
Is anybody else sick of hearing Obama's disingenuous misguided speaches? I'm only going to watch him tonight out of a morbid curiosity of what will be the next straw man that he sets up to fall.
We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
Mr Obama has repeatedly said that he is prepared to cut entitlements as part of a broader deal that also raises taxes. He came agonisingly close to such a deal with John Boehner, the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, in December. But the deal fell through.
On February 5th Mr Obama said the same offers he made in December “are still very much on the table”, provided tax revenues are also raised by eliminating deductions for the affluent. He also pleaded for a “smaller package” of spending cuts and tax increases to delay the sequester “a few more months”.
But the prospects look poor. On January 1st the Republicans accepted a deal that imposed higher tax rates on the rich while getting no spending cuts in return. But the outcome makes further deficit reduction much harder. The Republicans say they have ruled out giving in on taxes again, but the Democrats are in no mood to accept big cuts to entitlement programmes unless the tax take rises.
The GOP is a failure to this country as a whole. THus next year watch who it is you vote for!
Yet I am forced to wonder what on this earth is Obama thinking. I just read an article in the NYTs, whereby Obama is considering raising taxes to pay for WAR!
Sorry President Obama but I should not have to pay for another country's war, especially when some of these wars have been going on for centuries to date.
Obama got us into this, it's up to Obama to come up with a way out.
Unhappy -- Republicans could have put a stop to the gravy train under Bush. They didn't. They also had no problem with BUSH using a "credit card" his whole time in Office. The Republican controlled Congress did away with Pay Go, remember? They also stood around marveling at the run up in the housing market and allowed Wall Street to run things. The HOUSE OF CARDS collapsed on THEIR WATCH, that pushed us into a GREAT RECESSION necessitating even more spending to keep us out of a DEPRESSION. It also necessitated the need for additional spending on things to help those harmed the most by all that corruption. So yes, you're right, spending increased under the Obama Presidency. The disconnect with you is why it increased.
John -- Unfortunately you are right. They'll be back at it!
30 million watchers a day fox news
I voted for Hillary and after they ran her over with the bus it opened my eyes and ears and i saw how corrupt the left was and still is today all the friends and families are getting rich and browing the money from china YOU SHOULD BE PISSED but you not how sad.
And Romney would have been working on this nov 7
Feisty,
Great post..
Further evidence there is a reason it's known as the NewsforDumbFux Network;
I watched this hack just to see his response on this and all he did was make a distinction without a difference. He was called out for lying like he often does and instead of coming clean he fed in the hysteria and doubled down on stupid.... It is no wonder this guy has the most watch show on this entertainment network..
I read that a teacher was suspended for stating the first lady has a fat azz... I don't think Barry is over weight? As far as watching the SOTU I'd rather stick a pin in my eye...
First of all, a green card enables you to become a citizen, just saying. Secondly, these people don't want to just live here and work without proper representation. Ours is a nation of immigrants, both law-abiding and law-avoiding. However, the vast majority of these 11 million undocumented immigrants are nonviolent; most of them only came here via coyotes and smugglers so that they could avoid getting trapped in the clogged up mess that is our current system. These people sacrificed everything to get into this great country, which shows the world that we are still great. These people are only imprisoned because they wanted to come here and start a new life. And they won't stand the thought of working in the US and paying taxes and yet being unable to become a member of this great union. Most Americans support a path to citizenship; last time I checked we were a democratic republic, not an oligarchy. These people will not stand being relegated to what they see as an inferior status, and neither should we. And by the way, the Statue of Liberty says "Give me your tired, your poor/Your huddled masses yearning to be free..." If you want border security, you have to have a path to citizenship, or else you won't get either. Compromise is the key.
The 1986 immigration reform legislation failed for many reasons. Restrictions on employment were watered down by business lobbying; loopholes that enabled illegals for being hired as contractors and subcontractors were exploited, border defense spending was inadequate because of the need for deficit reduction after Reagan's huge deficits broke the budget, and border patrols made illegals move around to less secure areas. Amnesty wasn't a problem; the rules and enforcement were. Now, if you don't want a reversal of 1986, my advice to you is ignore business lobbying and enforce tough restrictions. In addition, we'll need more spending and tighter regulations, something your party hates worse than taxes. And finally, we'll need amnesty, or else all we'll be doing is enforcing Romney's old "self-deportation" strategy.
Oh, they did care, Probusiness. Problem was, whenever they floated a proposal to fix it (immigration reform, stimulus (plus tax breaks), etc), your (ex) party shot them down in order to make Obama a one term president. The President doesn't set policy without Congress; apparently you right-wingers only think Congress is a major branch of government when there's a Democrat in the White House.
No; Obama NEEDS an economic recovery, both to cement his legacy and to enact his second-term agenda, which hinge on the economy improving. We NEED infrastructure investment if we are to be a competitive economy with a 21st century network of transportation and communication. We NEED labor reform so that unions don't go the way of the dodo bird and drag the broad-based prosperity that built this nation with it. We NEED welfare reform in order to deal with the millions of Americans who don't have health insurance and who are in the depths of poverty.
That would be rather short-sighted. If Obama's economic recovery bogs down, he will be chastised for it. The GOP will win 2016, and we'll be back in the same mess without the anti-immigration crap. The unintelligible voters are the ones who voted for Romney even though he supported voucherizing Medicare and sucking up to the financial elite.
Well then, you better just sit down and take it like a man. Your (ex) party sought to sabotage him, and now you have to own up to it. So just sit down, swallow your bitter medicine, and enjoy it as much as you can, righty-boy.
And to whoever said that righties only like defense spending, kudos. Republicans like Paul Ryan and Lindsay Graham claim that Keynesian economics is a bust and that Ayn Rand/laissez-faire economics is a godsend, but their rhetoric against spending cuts for defense to "save jobs" proves how Keynesian they really are. They're either ashamed of admitting it to their Reagan-loving base (aka Tea Party) or they've finally mastered the Orwellian concept of doublethink.
Ebenezer,
Time to climb into your spider hole. Stay there for a while. Come out in 10 years and I'll be the country will be much the same. Keep preppin' winner.
Q22,
Republicans voted for it, so they are part of it, just like you guys are so fond of saying about the Iraq war. 'cept this is a little less consequential, don't you think? Worse case is you get the huge austerity cuts you wanted in the first place.
The deficit is projected to go down to $875B this year, and $460 next year with the sequester. I suppose you'll take credit for it then.
jedimoron, please explain how eliminating jobs can improve the economy?
ROTFLMAO!!!!!
Who the hell are these buffoons that are confident of Barrack Husseins economy?
It must be the chair sniffing Liberal/Progressive unwashed masses that squat on PMSNBC, Huff-N-Puff Post and Menial Matters.
Is Barrack going to "focus like a laser" on the economy again? More useless $timulu$ like we wasted $860 billion dollars on in 2009 to create 6 million low-wage/low-no benefit jobs? This means it cost us over $140,000 per job to be created. Most importantly is the type of jobs being created.
Let me educate you about what types of jobs your $140,000 investment is creating.
Although six in 10 jobs lost during the Great Recession paid mid-level wages, the majority of new jobs created in the recovery -- positions such as store clerks, laborers and home healthcare aides -- pay much less, according to a new study by the National Employment Law Project.
The study covered jobs created from the first quarter of 2010 through the first quarter of 2012.
Lower-paying jobs, with median hourly wages from $7.69 to $13.83, accounted for just 21% of the job losses during the recession. But they've made up about 58% of the job growth from the end of the recession in late 2009 through early 2012.
Those jobs have been concentrated in three industries: food services, retail and employment services, such as office clerks and customer service representatives, the study found.
In contrast, mid-wage occupations with median hourly wages from $13.84 to $21.13 -- jobs such as construction workers, real estate brokers, and data entry clerks -- have accounted for just 22% of the new jobs in the recovery after making up 60% of the job losses in the recession.
So, we're paying $200,000 to create jobs making $25,000 a year. I'm not an economist but it would seem like our return on investment isn't very good.
THESE ARE THE "GREEN SHOOTS", THE "RECOVERY SUMMER" AND WHAT "FOCUSED LIKE A LASER" GIVES US.
Government CANNOT create any profitable jobs!
Government’s role in the economy is simply to provide a healthy climate for entrepreneurs to unleash the genius we are used to in our great Republic. This is a multifactorial role government has to allow business to thrive and grow.
We have dramatic systemic defects in our economy that must be addressed. We can no longer wallow in out dysfunctional 20th century Keynesian nonsense that never worked. We need to allow the real driver of our wealth, prosperity and standard of living—the free-market—to propel us into the 21st century global economy. As much as many continue to resist the fact that we have 6.7 billion people in the world besides ourselves it is the reality of the new economy.
Many still believe that we will go back to the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with inflated wages, benefits and legacy costs for unskilled, illiterate labor force. This is the delusion of many on the Left. More than likely we will never see that level of middle class prosperity. Those menial, manual, repetitive jobs that the unwashed massed performed have been replaces by innovation, automation, centralization and outsourcing to more competitive markets. Yes, we clung to many of those jobs for 30-50 years as the world recovered from the Depression and 2 World Wars.
As we stood as the only operational manufacturing nation after the war we benefitted from the global empire rebuilding that was necessary. In the meantime the world was growing. In 1960 we had 3 billion people on this planet. It took all of history until then to create 3 billion people. As a result of the massive explosion of American exceptionalism and invention the worlds population has exploded to over 7 billion people. Every single person in the world has as much of a right to work and provide for themselves. Each nations government has the same responsibility, as does ours, to create a favorable atmosphere for its economic growth.
We can either look at the other 6.7 billion people in the world as competition or consumers. I think we need to look at them as both. The true free-market will direct us into the most productive industries that we can be competitive with the world and benefit from all those consumers.
The reason we are creating all those meaningless jobs I mentioned above is because we are dramatically behind in the most important aspect of economic growth. The systemic defects we have are multiple. We must reform our ridiculous trade reforms. We don’t have “free-trade” we have “managed trade”. From GATT to the ITO to NAFTA and the WTO these are nothing more than massive bureaucratic management and control agreements. NAFTA is 2,000 pages long and 900 pages of that are tariffs. How can you have “free trade” with that many tariffs? The WTO is 29,000 pages and even more bureaucratic wet-dreams come true. True free-trade should be exactly that, free.
Our criminal progressive tax system has never worked as it has been changed and tweaked in virtually every possible way and it still doesn’t work. Much of the problem is because we have allowed Progressivism to create massive bureaucracies managing entitlements and social programs that should never have been allowed. The Constitution defines the Federal governments mandated responsibilities, everything else must be allowed to the States as the 10th Amendment demands. Our Federal government, as is true of all government, is too big and unsustainable. Despite all the manipulation of our tax system we have never found a sustainable level. It’s time to eliminate this corruptible system and replace it with a simple Flat Tax or Fair Tax. Taxes should never be used as a system of rewards and punishments on the classes in our society. To continue this adolescent mentality is to admit we are incapable of true fairness of taxation and agreement to real taxation with representation. No government agency, department or service should strike the fear in the American people that the IRS does.
Regulations must be dramatically reformed. Most of them need to be eliminated and the rest of them must have “Sunset Clauses” attached to make sure they are constantly reviewed and evaluated for effectiveness.
Unions must be either dramatically reformed from the thugocracies they have become or eliminated. Most of the labor benefits they have created are now Federal or State laws. Wages are going to be determined based on education and merit rather than some convoluted collective agreement that discriminates most industries. Energy must be addressed and our massive natural resources exploited for our benefit and to create a level of commerce unseen before. We have more natural resources that can be extracted safely and profitably to create millions of jobs and pay off our massive unsustainable debt and unfunded liabilities.
The most important reform we MUST create immediately is our criminal government education system. If we truly want our workforce to be competitive in the 21st century global economy we must eliminate the useless Department of Education and return the control to the States. Imagine 50 incubators of groundbreaking ideas that can be shared and improved on rather than a dysfunctional central massive bureaucracy that only cares about its own survival rather than our children’s benefit.
Unfortunately we will not hear any of this from Barrack Hussein tomorrow. Instead we’ll just hear more of his social and economic justice for the collective nonsense. He’ll hide his true redistributionist obsession as revenue (taxes) and investment (spending). As a result our once proud economy will continue its stagnation and debt creation.
We have to finally be honest. Our Community Organizer in Chief is incapable of any significant economic reforms. As a statist his only concern is to keep the electorate illiterate. From there he will continue his faux promotion of our economy. Barrack Hussein doesn’t want anyone to succeed. He exposes this by telling all the useful idiots on the Left that the best they can become is middle class. He promotes mediocrity rather than success. He and his Ivy League faculty-lounge elitists don’t want Americans to succeed, this is reserved only to them and their anointed chosen few.
More government is paralyzing our economic expansion as our entitlements and social programs are like massive anchors on the engine of commerce. This will not be a focus of Barrack Husseins his only solution will be more Keynesian nonsense and redistributionist idiocy that hasn’t worked for 4 years.
It’s going to be a long bumpy ride from here on.
The deficit in 2004 was $410 billion, in 2005 it was $310 billion, in 2006 it was $250 billion, in 2007 it was $160 billion. Notice the trend?
What party held both the Senate and the House? What party was trying to regulate Freddy and Fannie but being blocked by the House and Senate banking committees (who were getting huge money from Freddy, Fannie and the big Mortgage brokers?) It is part of the record that Republicans in general and McCain in particular, tried unsuccessfully to regulate the mortgage fiasco that was Freddy and Fannie prior to the financial meltdown and it is a point of record that Rep. Frank delivered on the House floor a speech - in 2007 - praising the sub-prime mortgages because it helped so many people buy homes who otherwise could afford them! It was also Rep. Frank (Chairman of the House banking committee) delivering a speech on the house floor in early 2008 claiming that there is no such thing as a housing bubble since, unlike the Internet bubble, houses are tangible assets rather than paper valuations. So who are you blaming for being in the dark about the financial crisis?
The financial crisis was averted primarily through the TARP1 program initiated by the Bush administration (in concert with the incoming Obama administration). Everything thereafter has been a monumental waste of money and a huge boon for the labor unions.
We are spending 84% more on non-military discretionary spending since 2008 yet somehow cutting any of that would be catastrophic???
The Obama administration created it. They need to take the lead on how to avoid it. Republicans would be ok with keeping Sequestration since that's the only way to force Obama to rein in spending.
Whoa, there Ebenezer - you may want to stick to your ghostly apparitions. I hear the future brings you a vision where the constant supply of sour grapes stuck to you palate is replaced by an appellation of the sweet variety.
The Economy - How amnesty for illegals helps our economy
The Economy - How a carbon tax will help our economy
The Economy - How spending (he'll say investing) more money in "Green" technology and energy programs will help our economy
Drama Boy Jim Spence -- Corportate downsizing, wage concessions, "Right to Work" laws, aka union busting, ALL contributed to a decline in wages. Wages have been stagnant for decades, where have you been?
Let's not forget robotics has contributed to the loss of good paying jobs too.
Your tunnel vision is not serving you well. We have no true free market. It's a mixed economy. Always has been.
"Boy" what you been doing for four years if not "focusing on the economy" oh ya getting all your donors job in the government. The soviets did that in Russia in 1917 that lead to the second civil war. Think about it, is that what Obama is trying to do get us in a civil war so he can take this country over. You have corporation like GE paying 5 % income tax, but do you hear Obama pointing that out, do you see the Democratic held Senate passing bills to close loop holes in the tax codes that would prevent Ge from hold most of it income off shore. we got Nancy Pelosi on the Sunday news shows lying that we don't have a spending problem, they have a revenue problem, that's what you've focused on ways to tax the middle class and all you in that class voted for Obama. Will your pay back is coming soon not only is Obama taxing the crap out of the rich, he will be taxing the middle class by regulations. Example he will tax the mean rich oil companies with regulations on duty air coming from refineries, he will tax milk and food for green house gases, he will tax trucking for heavy loads they bring to market that damage roads. Now if I can think of things to tax so can Obama. But that's how he will tax the middle class because I'm sure your not going to stop buying gas, food, cloths, phones ( unless it a Obama phone) heat, lights.
Q,
OK, let's go with that. If the sequester goes on, and the deficits go down, you'll give credit to Obama because it was "his" idea? Sure, I'm not going to hold my breath.
Nevermind that a million or more will be out of work, that dreaded deficit will go down. The country is paying interest less than the rate of inflation, but yep, the deficit is the MOST important thing. "Who cares about a million jobs in a sluggish economy? We'll get to blame that on Obama too! It's a win-win!""
Traitorous bastards.
King Fish,
wee-oooo, wee-oooo
The tin-foil hat police are coming!
Get back in your bunker and prep for the apocalypse!
"Never mind that a million or more will be out of work, that dreaded deficit will go down."
Small Business, I usually agree with you, but if the sequester goes through, the deficit won't go down much, why, because a million folks will not be working and paying taxes, and will be needing even more government services. It is a bad idea to let this country fall off the table. I do agree with you that republicans in congress today are "traitorous bastards".
Since the last thing on earth the Obama administration wants is to cut domestic non-military spending then giving him credit for being forced to cut spending would be redonkulous.
The only jobs being affected are military jobs (not so much soldiers but civilians who work for the military and contractors who sell to the military). If those jobs are so important to Obama and you Democrats then propose a more balanced approach where the Pentagon doesn't take on a disproportionate piece of the Sequestration cuts. That would mean cutting more non-military discretionary spending but since that spending is up 84% since Obama took office it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
I think the question ought to be, who the hell are the buffoons who thought that the Republicans would do any better?
Perhaps, although at least a few of them have to moderates (as liberals are only about 20-25% of the population).
This is what we get after 30 years of wasted opportunity. This is was we as a nation get after wasting precious time and resources that could have spent on better things (healthcare and manufacturing) instead of stupid Reaganesque tax cuts and financial bailouts. This is what we get for trusting an industry that produces nothing but debt and paper profits over an industry that was (and should be) the backbone of every major economy since the Industrial Revolution. We cannot change the past, but hopefully we can make up for it in the future. And FYI, the stimulus did create well-paying jobs in construction and manufacturing; problem was that it was inadequate to deal with the crisis we were facing.
Much like Reagan's phony "Morning in America," eh?
Tell that to the Germans, who through subsidies, tax credits, and investment have developed a massive manufacturing base that employs millions and provides people with high wages and good benefits. Tell that to the Scandinavians, who through a generous but not overbearing welfare state have minimized poverty and income inequality and have become competitive in the energy and trading sector. Tell that to the nation that subsidized railroads and canals, provided funds for research and development, and built the massive highway system that all of us drive on. You say history proves that government doesn't create profitable jobs; history says otherwise.
You right-wingers idolize the free-market as if it was made by the right hand of God. What you fail to realize that the free market, like government, was created by man, and thus contains deep flaws. That is why we have government with it, to save it in bad times and contain it in good times. The government cannot live without the free market, and vice versa. One cannot exist without the other. And yes, there are 6.7 billion people besides ourselves in over 200 countries; that is why we have to invest in our growth formula to stay competitive, just like every other goddamn country out there.
As much as I would like to return to the 50s and 60s' era prosperity, chances are that we will never return to such an era for at least a generation or so. However, globalization and automation does not mean the end of manufacturing in America, nor should we write it off as such. The medium and high-value manufacturing sectors, mainly specializing in capital goods and durable consumer products, can still be won by America. We can also attain a favorable status in the realm of high-tech and energy, and can easily overpower any nation on the planet if we put our collective and individual minds to it.
Unfortunately, the "true free market" is the same market that sent the US into two crippling bubble-related recessions in the first decade of the new millennium. The "true free market" is the same market that spawned destructive monopolies and trusts like Standard Oil and Citigroup. The "true free market" is the one that created a volatile cycle of boom and busts that only affect the poor and the middle class while the rich are equipped with a defensive wall that will temporarily soften the blows. The "true free market" is the same market that cost millions of Americans their jobs, their pensions, their houses, and their dignity. That is the free market you are talking about; the laissez-faire market.
Free trade is nothing more than an idealistic concept that relies on the idea that every nation will play by the rules. While I do not doubt the benefits of free trade (as a former supporter), you must recognize that pure free trade is impossible, in part because at least a few nations will subsidize certain industries to prevent a "giant sucking sound," forcing other nations to do so and thus destroying the entire system. Even if every nation adhered to a rigorous free trade policy, you would need a large government to pay for job retraining programs, provide unemployment benefits to those in between jobs, and invest in new industries to remain competitive. Essentially, pure free trade (just like pure Marxism and pure Capitalism) is virtually impossible because of man's imperfect nature. Fair trade, a mixture of protective tariffs for a few key industries (shipbuilding, steel, mining, etc) with a majority of free trade, is the best way to go, just like an economy with a mix of capitalism and socialism.
The 10th Amendment was created when the states numbered only 13 and the problems facing society were much different than today. The states cannot solely bear the burden of education, social spending, or healthcare spending (just as the post-Reagan bubble years prove). I could care less about the failed policy of states' rights; if you want to see an example of it, take a look at the Confederacy. And by the way, the days when a central government could be small and local government could retain most of the power are long gone. The concept of decentralized government went out the door the day we began industrializing. We cannot return to limited government without eliminating most of our remaining industrial institutions and returning to a more agrarian lifestyle, which is impossible. The time for decentralized government has passed, just like the prosperity of the 1950s and 60s has. The notion that there is one kind of tax that will not reward or punish people is downright childish. Every tax redistributes wealth and picks winners and losers, whether it's a regressive flat tax (rewards rich and punishes poor), a consumption tax (rewards saving over consuming), or a wealth tax (rewards investors over hoarders). True fairness requires everyone to pay a portion of their income's marginal utility (utility decreases as income increases). In other words, Marx got it right when he said "from each according to his own ability."
We do need regulatory reform, and maybe sunset clauses (or a mandatory review every now and then) would work, but many of them do serve a purpose. Your deregulatory attitude is the same @!$%# that brought about the Great Recession.
Unions have their faults, but they are not completely to blame for America's prosperity crisis. In fact, they are a part of the answer, as unions negotiate higher wages for all workers, even if they do not belong to a union. I don't mind a merit-based pay for teachers, nor do I mind utilizing energy resources. I mind the idea that thuggish unions are the problem and drilling our way to prosperity is the answer.
A long time ago, the states ran education with ease, turning children into adults and teaching them the basic skills that they needed to succeed. But as time passed, decentralized education began to deteriorate as lobbies grew and rationalism fell upon deaf ears. Most industrialized nations have centralized education systems, or a mix of both local and federal control. That is what we need. National standards that states can build upon, a larger share of funding coming from federal coffers, and a teaching system that focuses on skills rather than test scores and distributing education funds to schools that need help. The states were once very good incubators, and they still can be, but they can no longer be the sole administrators of education. That time passed long ago, Jim.
Indeed. Hopefully your side will grow tired and stay behind before it drags the nation down in the race for prosperity...
Q,
Only HALF the sequester is military. Look it up. The idea of the sequester was for it to be so unpalatable to BOTH SIDES that it would be avoided at all cost.
The other half is education and other domestic "discretionary" spending, so it will be non-military job cuts too.
Johntho,
I'm just going from some deficit projection I read somewhere. I think it took into account the revenue reductions from job losses too. But the point is that the deficit is going down regardless. The Sequester is only $85B, how do you go down $500B in two years with only $170B in cuts? The economy is recovering, more people are working, automatic spending is down, taxes are up. the Economy is what drives the deficit, not policy, for the most part.
I said this before the election. The Economy can't help but come back. You can't hold back America forever (even with Republicans trying REALLY hard). That's why it was so important who won this past election. Whoever was in office was going to see a big recovery and get to take credit for it, and the deficit reduction that comes with it. I'm sure glad my guy won :- )
After Obama finishes tonight, expect the POLAR ICECAPS to begin melting at an accelerated pace ... releasing that much HOT AIR at one time does, indeed, lead to global warming !
Obama's a clown who is clueless about what it takes to create jobs in the "tax-revenue-producing" private sector !!
All Obama understands is "growing government" which feeds like a malignant cancer on the private sector !!!
I wonder if Obama is going to address taxing the poor:
Restored Payroll Tax Pinches Those Who Earn the Least
“You got to stretch what you got,” said Mr. Phillips, 51, a front-desk clerk and maintenance man for a nonprofit housing group who earned $22,000 last year. “That little $20 or $30 affects you, especially if you’re just making enough money to stay above water.” So he has taken to juggling bills, skipping a payment on one this month and another next month.”
“If you wanted to design a policy to squeeze the spending of lower- and middle-income households, raising the payroll tax is the way to do it,” said Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomic Advisors. “It’s very regressive.”

Defense is 14% of the budget and 50% of the Sequestration cut. I call that disproportionate.
non-military discretionary spending is up 84% from 2008. 84%! Somehow I doubt that a cut of less than $80 billion will be ruinous.
SMbusownerinnY
You wrote about a plan for 10:1 on spending cuts to taxes like that was a real plan. It never existed it was a question to Republican candidates in a debate.
On the grand bargain Boehner did work out a deal with the President and when he came back with approval from his party the President changed it to as for more taxes. That was according to the book by Carl Bernstein. The President has yet to tell us which spending he would cut besides defense.
Non military discretionary spending is 13% of the the budget and 50% of the sequestration, I call THAT disproportionate!
84%, right, its all because of the Bush economic crash, didn't you get the memo?
Here are the facts:

Who will be the next darling for the Republican party?
Fred Thompson?
Rudy Giuliani?
Mike Huckabee?
Fred Thompson?
Newt Gingrich?
John McCain?
Michelle Bachmann?
Rick Perry?
Rick Santorum?
Herman Cain?
Tim Pawlenty?
Mitt Romney?
They have all tried and failed miserably. The Republican party....the party that just keeps on giving...crap. Will they roll out someone new (Rubio?, Cristie?) but the message will stay the same. Doom and gloom....with a sh*t eating grin......welcome to the new Republican party.
Obama is NOT a God
NOT a Lord and Savior
NOT a Black Messiah
Obama is a MAN
Obama is a POLITICIAN
Obama is a CORRUPT POLITICIAN
Obama is a LYING CORRUPT POLITICIAN
Wake up AMERICA IF YOU WORK At the same job as 2012
YOUR CHECK IS SMALLER through NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN
Obama LIES to him EVERY WORKER IS A 1% ER
Obama got his tax hikes and promised cuts would follow. If he doesn't mention SPECIFIC cuts in his address and pushes for Congress to, yet again, raise taxes without specific cuts, you pretty much know he's lying again. Nothing but cuts this round or let sequestration happen at the fault of "my way or the highway" tactics this administration seems to love. Let the elected representatives REPRESENT their constituents and protect the children of tomorrow from having ot go without what THEY'LL need rather than paying for the liberal greed of spending at the expense of our children's future.
Wow this is a Red letter day. Feisty's first post was deleted......INCREDIBLE!
Bush's last budget was enacted in October 2008 to run through October 2009 with a deficit of 1.2 trillion dollars. The farce from the GOP is that if Obama can't create massive job growth while spending not only 1.2 trillion less but with 500 billion less in tax revenue due to the meltdown in 2008 he's a failure. Obama should be flattered that republicans believe he's so much smarter than Bush and republican leadership.
You're partially right. When republicans were asked if they'd accept $10 in cuts to $1 in new revenue they said no. As for the grand bargain Obama and Boehner did come to agreement that would have included both cuts and new revenue until Boehner presented this agreement to Ryan and the hard line republicans. They blew a gasket and Boehner backed out not Obama.
No matter what this blow-hard BSr of a President says, we have 4 more years of misery and excuses.
Freshieee - REALLY, you are going to compare us to the Germans? The Germans don't have to deal with 47% of their population trained to be lazy Democrats. If you are a lazy german you will NOT be tolerated. My mom is German and a very proud German. She came over as a war refugee. She can not stand what liberal bleeding-hearts stand for. Have you EVER seen a dirty German city? NO. They have tremendous pride. Earned through hard work. Democrats want handouts. So think again when trying to compare liberals to Germans. While handouts are great to get a voting block, their also great at destroying people.
Geo, REALLY?? Germans are more liberal than Democrats any day of the week: unions, safety nets, 6 week mandatory vacations. THEY are the socialists, dinkus. No one thinks you're a genius, but saying "democrats" just want handouts, is like saying Republicans just want to shoot people.
apparently IQs keep dropping among the low-iq and low-information conservatives.
too stupid to comprehend what "temporary" means
right, victor?
I have had to go down far to submit an understanding of too many blogs on legal immigration. All legal immigrants who arrive in our country are given a green card. They must always show this on demand. they must be employed by the companies that brought them here for a minimum of one year. they can't claim any welfare assistance, unemployment nor other benefits, other than from the company for whom they work for the required full year. They must always notify the authorities of any change of address. They can't apply for U.S.citizenship for five years, repeat five years from receiving their green card. To become citizens they must show some understanding of the language and our working and rules of democratic government. I doubt if illegals can receive benefits at all. without the connivance of the government worker who is helping them with their claim.
This guy should write for SNL.Focus on economy.
Obama doesn't evenknow what that is. Or a budget. Or a job.
"Focus" That's funny.
PATHETIC
Even a broken clock is right - twice a day
Too bad - President Obama - still can't make that claim - sad and pathetic
Almost 2/3 of the people (64%) doesn't think Obama is capable of handling the problems that continues to destroy the economy.
It seems as if we will now have 8 more years of this failed administration.
Will the liberal left and media continue to support his failed policies?
Everybody is getting excited about the 'sequester', which will cut $85 Billion out of the 2013 budget, but they don't realize that Obama's 'Stimulus' bill and other spending in 2009 added $535 Billion to the spending in just his first year, and spending has been maintained at that high level for the last 4 years, despite the 'Stimulus' money already having been spent.
It really is true that politicians love to spend money, but will say "The sky is falling" if they're called upon to even consider any actual cuts in spending.
The only way for the economy to turn around would be to give the consumers more money to spend (tax cuts) and cut back on some of the expensive new regulations - something that Obama would NEVER even consider, so I expect lots of 'rhetoric', but no substance - as usual.
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy" - Alexander Fraser Tytler
We just got to that point in 2012, when Obama added 17 million people to the welfare rolls and then told them that if he was not reelected, the 'other guy' would take away their 'free' benefits.
Obama won the 25% of votes in the 'Welfare Eligible' group by 12.9 million votes, while the other 75% of voters (the ones that pay for those welfare benefits) voted for Romney by an 8 million vote margin. Net result was a win for Obama by 4.9 million votes.
We are now on that inevitable slide into greed and insolvency.
"The historical cycle seems to be: From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to apathy; from apathy to dependency; and from dependency back to bondage once more." Alexander Fraser Tytler
We seem to be in the selfishness to apathy phase at this time.
It is really funny, in a very sad way, that the Repubs/TPers on here think that president Obama has not tried to fix the economy. I guess that they are either forgetting or ignoring the large number ( around 400 Bills filibustered) of actual jobs bills and things that would have stimulated the economy by doing such things as infrastructure repair etc. that the Repubs in Congress have either set aside or filibustered with their fake filibuster Rule 22 in the Senate. And yet they blame Pres. Obama for not doing anything??
The FACT is that had those bills/programs made it out of Congress then our Nation would have been a lot farther along the path of Economic Recovery, however, as has been shown, quite clearly, the Repubs/TPers have held the entire nation hostage in their misguided and now failed attempt to make President Obama a "One Term President". This is very well documented and a very much proven Fact.
The Repubs/TPers keep going in their ideological meme that President Obama is a 'failed President' when it is THEY, Themselves who have not only broken the economy but stalled the economic recovery on purpose for political gain, which they did not get, and in fact, were strongly rebuked on in this last Presidential Election.
It is clearly time for the Repubs/TPers to get out of the way and actually allow the President's policies to finally and actually come into effect because Then we will see the economic recovery that those on the right, and left, have been clamoring for.
You folks on the right need to suck it up and admit that the policies of the right wing are the ones that are destructive to the nation, that you LOST this last election, badly, and that the ONLY reason that the House is still in Repub/TPer control is because of the massive cheating by way of Gerrymandering and voter disenfranchisement at the State level.
The Repubs/TPers continue to hold this nation hostage to their demands: Either cut taxes, again, for the Uber Rich or we will crash the Government to the ground by way of obstructionism and refusal to make any sort of compromise.
The actions of the Repub/TPers party is tantamount to Treason in the very fact that they are INTENTIONALLY harming a majority of the population of this nation in favor of giving those who already own WAY too much of the pie yet another large slice of it and further erode the safety nets that keep people from starving on the streets when they are thrown out of work by Corporations that decide they can make better money by off-shoring their jobs, those same Corporations that were pocketing Billions of dollars in profits annually BEFORE off-shoring jobs.
They further blame those who have lost their jobs, through no reason of their own, as being lazy and just wanting to be on Govt Assistance. Nothing can be farther from the truth. We have corporations, many of them, that are using "part Time Employees" that they pay minimum wage and no benefits, and expect the Govt to pick up the slack for them while they pocket billions of dollars a year in pure profits, profits that SHOULD be used to make sure that their employees do NOT need Govt Assistance int he first place. Yet they get tax breaks instead, which cost this Nation even more in lost revenues.
We need to remove Corporations from political power. Corporations do not care about people, the environment or the general economy of the Nation, they just want PROFITS, PROFITS NOW, "Full Steam Ahead and Damn the Torpedoes" (David Farragut) and to hell with anyone else once they have theirs. This is supposed to be a nation Of THE PEOPLE, By The People and For The people. Corporations are no where in there, and, in fact, the Framers of The Constitution were particularly wary of Corporations, such as the East India Trading Company, and wrote The Constitution in such a way as to make sure that The People, not Corporations, had the power of Government behind them.
On a side note, has anyone else noticed that Grover Norquist just happens to sit on the Board of the NRA?? Very Interesting, That.

Aww, Fisty, again you missed out on being the first poster, so you became the first reply to the first post. Almost as good, right? No. And your reply doesn't even have any relevance to the post you're replying to, but only an attack on Fox News. What a libtard. You must really love Fox News to quote it so often. Cheney criticizes Obama nominees in Wyoming speech
By BOB MOEN
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Saturday night that President Barack Obama has jeopardized U.S. national security by nominating substandard candidates for key cabinet posts and by degrading the U.S. military.
"The performance now of Barack Obama as he staffs up the national security team for the second term is dismal," Cheney said in comments to about 300 members of the Wyoming Republican Party.
Cheney, a Wyoming native, said it was vital to the nation's national security that "good folks" hold the positions of secretary of state, CIA director and secretary of defense.
"Frankly, what he has appointed are second-rate people," he said.

Weeeell there you have it Folks. Ain’t that special.
If anybody knows second rate its ‘Lil Dickie Cheney.
Why there’s even some that think he made a second rate President. Oopsie Vice President.
Actually ‘Lil Dickie is just mad because his choice for Sec. Of Defense had to withdraw.
He thought ‘Ol Pepe LaPew would be perfect for the Job. Pepe though apparently had an anxiety attack when he found out that he had to travel to several Countries where they take their Second Amendment Rights shall we a mite more seriously and use it for a purpose and not to perpetrate madness and with the Budget Cutbacks in the offing He figured that the Military couldn’t afford the First Marine Division to provide Bodyguard services that he needed to feel safe.
Literally had to pry ‘Ol Pepe out from under the desk. He was heard to say while they were stumbling off under ‘Lil Dickies Secret Service Protection. “Are you nuts? Those A Rabs have been known to shoot s a feller DeeeeeDee. Deed.”
Heartless...that's Cheney
Cheney's first heart is already in Hell ... they are awaiting the rest of him.
A heartfelt thanks to bcwc -
WOW, a cat with a big heart commenting on heartless Cheney. My warning: Don't go hunting with Cheney...he might be on the look-out for another heart for his second transplant.
IR...great post and to think we paid for that second heart. I want a refund!!!
Wo hold on here. I just read a new poll out that says America wants substandard members in Govment places?? I also 'read' a new poll where it says I want to grant 11+ million illegal criminals amnesty, and then 'read' another poll thats says I don't want my guns anymore because their so unsafe they go out and randomly kill people and perform random acts of violence...I will be far better off signing my rights away to the Govment as I sold my soul for security.
Just in...a new poll just came out...Pigotry is actually human and not Satans lil' helper...go figure. Praise Owebama.
Cheney should know about second-rate people. Remember he appointed himself to be VP. That should have been the first clue to you republicans that Bush II was just a puppet, but then again most of you are clueless.
JediUtahn: Good one! My Thoughts exactly......
No doubt these polls were selectively created by MSN.
Unlike the FOX polls that Willard and Carl Rove were putting all of their faith into on November 6, 2012.
Wow---second rate people. My first thought---well, Dick Cheney, you'd know second rate---we had 8 years of it with you. They are so blinded by their hatred of President Obama. The concept of "loyal opposition" is gone forever.
Ah, good old JediMiah from the M&M state (massacres&mormons) extolling profound Moroni(c) wisdom on interpretations of gold plates and polls. Tell us, are those polls read through divine specs? They must be, as much like that little blue book, those god given polls seem to exist only in the mythical mind of the believer.
Maybe they will take OBLAMERS heart out and give it to a good guy like Cheney. Do the world a favor get rid of the worst president and help out the old guy.
Cheney needs to return to his secret, undisclosed location.....and stay there. He has zero credibility on foreign policy, just look at the Bush/Cheney foreign policy team of failures. What a pompous fool old Dickie is to think what he has to say is important when the truth is that he and his neo-con ilk have been relegated to the dustbin of irrelevance. History will not be kind to Bush, Cheney and their team of incompetents.
Is the opposition to our policy of unmanned attack drones one of process or philosophy?
It seems that neither side can decide.
Personally I agree with the PHILOSOPHY/STRATEGY, but the process sucks. I am sure we will expand the "secret court" system already in place to create a patina of moral and ethical propriety. And it will satisy no one...
The POPE is resigning! That happens every 600 years or so, and the leading candidate to succeed him taught a course in Metaphysics and Atheism...and he's a spry 68 or 69 years old, which makes him a pup in Pope years...
The tea party folks don't have many friends in the so-called Conservative establishment, now that they have served their purpose, so it will be interesting to see how the Republican congressional and Senatorial primary season takes shape, as there is going to be a LOT of money raised and spent in the "Battle before the Fight" this November.
The President will get kudos from the left, the "razzberry" from the right on Tuesday night, and his favorables will go up 3-5 points.
The Tea Party response and the Republican response to the SOTU will not be in sync, which is why there will be 2 responses to begin with. Many viewers will suffer from PTMSOTUS (Post traumatic multiple SOTU syndrome) One topic all will be in total agreement on, will be their derision of the hated MSM.
Every proposed cabinet nominee will be confirmed.
My area (the Northeast) got hammered by NEMO, and is blanketed in heavy snow, but pitchers and catchers report this week, so spring is in the air no matter what the NWS and that stupid rodent in Punxsutawney says...
Q;
What percentage of this blog is made up of personal insults and responses to said insults and what part is political commentary?
90%, 90% and 90% ... oh crap, it doesn't add up ... let's see, if I bisect the Right angle of the Left hypotenuse ... then square the circle jerk ... ? Hmmm!
This whole country has degraded into one insult after another, name calling, blame, and endless excuses. It seems as if there is nothing for which agreement can be found, and no problem we are capable of solving as a nation. Washington is nothing but a cesspool of corruption, and our fourth branch of government is to blame. Special interest groups. It is the point where greed doesn't have to make sense. Anyone that feels Obama is going to put this country on the right path is a fool, Democrats are as controlled by special interest groups as are Republicans. The good of the country no longer out weighs the greed of the few. Listen to a brilliant speech by Dr Benjamin Carson, and watch Obama's face change as his speech continues. Dr Carson is someone who can truly inspire, and hopefully Obama was taking notes.
http://nj1015.com/dr-benjamin-carsons-amazing-speech-at-national-prayer-breakfast-video/
OMG you liberals are so dumb! Of course Bush was a puppet, no one is contending that fact; time for you all to put on you big boy pants and realize that Obama is an even bigger puppet.
Rick, you're certainly right about the name calling. However there's a larger problem, it exists with Fox News and the radical right wing radio B.S.er's who place profit above morality, double speak above clear speak, and the idiotic American war machine above the repair and upgrade to the nation's infrastructure. We have large problems with our electrical grid, our transportation routes, and our educational system, there is much to do, but no solutions beyond cutting social programs are forthcoming from those prophets of doom. They are more interested in stirring up the doomsday crowd, spurring them on to more survivalist gear and gun purchases then they are in helping to reinvent and reinvest in American Greatness.
ZeitGeist - Watch it and learn...
To all the idiots above, MSN poll 8% TRUST MSNBC, 43% TRUST FOX. Case closed.
We interrupt this thread with an important message from the Secretary of Cyber- War,
" For all citizens living within a 10 mile radius of the center of Flagstaff Arizona, Please be advised that the center of Flagstaff, Az. received a direct hit from our enemies. According to official calculations, there was an estimated 128,736 deaths. This number of names were picked at random to report to your local extermination Center within 24hrs for processing. It is YOUR duty as a citizen to report if your name is on the list. Failing to do so will result in the death of your entire family for treason. Thank You and Have a Nice Day,

Well Steve C-526943 thanks for pointing out your bias. As if name calling or insults are only on the right. You can't read through this blog with seeing countless insults and name calling, and no certainly not just from the right. I have never heard Obama give a speech without some blame or excuses, and that is not how you go about uniting the nation. Take 30 minutes and watch the speech by Dr Carson, then come back and tell me what he said that didn't make perfect sense. Dr Carson does not point fingers at anyone, but he does challenge everyone.
RedDevBS - So according to YOUR poll 8% TRUST MSNBC. How hilarious is that? And 41% TRUST FOX.
Ok geo - let's play read the poll like a duped conservative.
Least trusted network - Fox 39%, MSNBC 13%. Folks overwhelmingly do not trust Fox as compared to MSNBC, by a 3:1 margin. Capiche!!
Obama is a LYING CORRUPT POLITICIAN
Wake up AMERICA IF YOU WORK At the same job as 2012

Dangerfield, Great post.
RevDev,
You've proved it, geo is truly stupid. Sorry geo. You get one vote in the poll, dinkus. All the righties vote FOR Fox, while everybody else votes among the remaining options, including Comedy Central.
That is a great poll by the way. Very interesting (not surprising, but interesting).
Republicans REALLY don't trust anything. At best (other than Fox), they trust PBS at a whopping 27%. Everybody else goes down from there (e.g. CNN 17% trust, MSNBC 12%, Comedy Central 6%)
Funny Democrats trust Comedy Central (38%) more than Republicans trust PBS (27%). That's a little frightening. John Stewart is great and all, but.... it's satire. Pubbies don't even believe the real thing (PBS).
No wonder Ebenezer is digging his hole and storing seeds.
SmBsOwner - the funniest thing about PBS is that the right wants to de-fund their 2nd most trusted news source.
Only Liberals would think 8% is great. RedDevBS & SmBus - Maybe you can tell me when Obama's summer of recovery is REALLY going to start.
Well shucks Geo - given that you read polls as well as Romney and Rove, maybe you can tell me how that election thingy went for ya! Oh, the summer of recovery already started and has been on a steady road upward ever since.
Yes Rick, I am biased, especially since I am so familar with Republican ineptitude as noted by Paul O'Neil, Bush2's first Treasury Secretary.
O'Neill was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by George W. Bush. O'Neill was an outspoken member of the administration, often saying things to the press that went against the administration's party line, and doing unusual things like taking a tour of Africa with singer Bono.
A report commissioned in 2002 by O'Neill, while he was Treasury Secretary, suggested the United States faced future federal budget deficits of more than US$ 500 billion. The report also suggested that sharp tax increases, massive spending cuts, or both would be unavoidable if the United States were to meet benefit promises to its future generations. The study estimated that closing the budget gap would require the equivalent of an immediate and permanent 66 percent across-the-board income tax increase. The Bush administration left the findings out of the 2004 annual budget report published in February 2003.[citation needed]
O'Neill's private feuds with Bush's tax cut policies and his push to further investigate alleged al-Qaeda funding from some American-allied countries, as well as his objection to the invasion of Iraq in the name of the war on terror — that he considered as nothing but a simple excuse for a war decided long before by neoconservative elements of the first Bush Administration — led to him being fired[1] in 2002 and replaced with John W. Snow.
Ron Suskind interviewed O'Neill extensively about his tenure in the Bush Administration. He was also given access to a large amount of documentation. In 2004 he produced the book The Price of Loyalty, detailing O'Neill's tenure in the Bush Administration.[6] The book describes many of the conflicts that O'Neill had with the Bush administration. For example, O'Neill was a great arguer and discusser of ideas; however when he approached Mr. Cheney and attempted to engage in dialog, the Vice President would simply nod his head, and thank him for his ideas. The book also details O'Neill's criticisms of some of Bush's economic policies. Bush appears somewhat unquestioning and uncurious, and the war in Iraq was planned from the first National Security Council meeting, soon after the administration took office, even though Bush had promised not to engage in nation building during his campaign.
With the above stated actual history of republicans in power, one needs ask why do they want to screw the country? The answer is easy, their corporate masters need wars and the unholy profits they generate.
Its not name calling, or bias, if the truth is that the republican hold on congress is killing this country, their record number of filibuster and unbridled obstructionism all for political gain should not be ignored, or rewarded.
“You are not our protectors…If you were who would there be to protect us from?” … a conundrum posed to the male gender.
Mary Edwards Walker, the only woman ever to receive the Medal of Honor.
February 14 has a new and deeper meaning this year and it is not about chocolates and roses. It is about the ‘gift’ of violence women receive throughout the world on a daily basis. It is V-Day, 1 Billion Rising … the ladies of the world are saying enough is enough.

The Senate which was to deal with the VAWA Thursday evening dallied and rescheduled for tonight. I wonder if there is something in the hallways that whispered to them that it would be a hard slog to pass in the House and thus Congress could avoid another embarrassing moment on the world stage. Senate passage is all but in the bag as all but one GOP female Senator is onboard. The House with its vaudeville of regressive clowns on the other hand will seek some argument from the fabled past of woman as a happily married homemaker protected by some lovable hunk of sweaty Patriarchy grunting his way to another mouth to feed.
You think not? The family values boys have sent out their foot soldiers, the God fearing breeder hens, and much cackling has been posted in the last few days by the likes of Phyliss Schlafly and Penny Nance among others. The regular cast of boogeymen make all an appearance on their stage: scary feminists, scarier LGBTs, scariest socialists (and all those other ‘flag of the evil side’ words used for Democrats).

Just the facts mam, just the facts. The word fact has become a warning sign for me, as I know there are generally none to follow the trumpet call of ideology. Katherine Rosario, in an all too frequent example of this ruse, offers up-
`”Unfortunately, as we have pointed out, there has been no scientifically rigorous evaluation of VAWA’s effectiveness.”
Then follows up with this tripe-
“They’ve [Liberals] got rhetoric and emotional appeal on their side. We’ve [Conservatives] got facts on ours.”
http://heritageaction.com/2013/02/vawa-failure/
Everyone has their fact sheet but all that was offered up were but two opinions that juggled dog whistle numbers continuously copied from one opinion blogger to the next until lo and behold a ‘factoid’ was born. I did email this opinionated bastion of the ‘Facts’ the link below but I am sure her filters are set for Liberal ‘spam’.

Gentlemen, we need to listen, to understand and to change. We are worth 50% less when women are not treated as our equals. The violence delivered to women is not only by way of the fist but across the board monetarily and politically. I for one will be hugely surprized in the President if there is no mention of this in the State of the Union, it was one of Hilary Clinton’s major accomplishments to bring this issue to the fore on the world stage.
BCWC, terrific post. I find it odd that in the USA, we hear outrage at the horrible treatment of women in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, etc., yet in the US Congress, republicans refuse to pass the Violence Against Women Act because they don't think Native American women, gays, or female domestic workers should be protected against violence.
The Senate should be able to pass the law, and send it to the House. Boehner can either cave to his tea-nuts and prove again the GOPers bias against women, or he can work with democrats and the few sensible republicans left in the House to pass it.
I thought the Democrats were in Office? The president has overturned before ( Or just not listened) what the Republicans have wanted to do, and for some reason now there is a problem passing the Act? The people are not that stupid.
I dont know if you watch much tv but there are several shows dedicated to showing how violent women can be. Wives With Knives, Deadly Women, Wicked Attraction. My point is that violence is wrong whether its a man or woman who commits the act and from the looks of these shows there are plenty of violent women out there who murder for the sheer enjoyment of it and have no conscience. And now that women are allowed into combat positions in the military there's going to be a lot more violence against women than ever. Are we going to expect the male military members to give these women who want equal rights and want to be in combat special treatment and protection when in a combat zone? If women want equal rights than why are we asking for a law to be passed that specifically is for violence against women only. I dont want a violent act committed on my son or daughter by anybody. To me this law means women are too weak to stand up for ourselves and need special treatment and laws. I personally find this an insult to me as a woman. I think what we really need is a special law for our most vulnerable citizens like the elderly and children and those who commit violence or take advantage of or violate one of these groups to get a special jail term. If women truly want equal rights then we need to stop asking for special treatment.
Liberation comes by asking for more than you need ... it is a negotiation tactic. If the VAWA passes and becomes effective then that poor besotted handful of abused males will be attended to.
Republican policy has always prescribed relief from an odious smell can never be the allowance of fresh air. Rather, it must be at best, the removal of ones nose, or, more often, a cessation of breathing.
That odious smell is coming from your feet ! You always post such "nasty stuff" .... you must be a "progressive".
@jim-odd no's#3.7: Just doing what I can for the conservatives. Poor sons-ah-bitches. None of 'em know "when" from "where", or, vice ver-sa.
Although Dr Benjamin Carson does not point fingers, does not assign blame, does not espouse to be either Democrat or Republican, his speech at this years Nation Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC blew everyone away, and put Obama to shame. Watch Obama's face during the speech, as he goes from smiling to loathing. Take the time to listen to someone who is truly inspiring.

First Thoughts from Iowa: It's a Toss Up. Not sure which is worse. 1) Trying to sort through the hideous, awful, ugly mess that has become Newsvine's front page; 2) Newsvine Nations Echo Chamber where no one who isn't a like-minded member of a Nation can add a comment or debate a posted article; 3) or listening to Morning Joe Scarborough whine that medicare and social security are the cause of all this country's financial woes.
Thank goodness First Read is still a place were both sides can debate the topic, post their own First Thoughts for the day...and it is still pleasing to the eye. I do miss the time the article has been up, though.
Obama is finally back to focusing on the economy and the runaway government spending? Yeah, right. When pigs fly and Liberals are intelligent.
Pigs will fly first. Liberals will never be intelligent. That's why they voted for Stinky (bo)....twice.
Sarah-3152994. stevejc42
As soon as we learn how to graft wings on a pig we will schedule you for the operation ... should add a humorous twist to skeet shooting.
Swine-Flew
Yeah, we pigs can fly, at least in the past (thus Swine-Flew).
Hi, I am Maxwell the Pig
silver hammers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UsyGYnXgos
With a name like Sarah, I wouldn't use the word intelligence in any post. In fact seeing as how you're a republican intelligence is probably a foreign word to you. I know this is a confusing question for you Sarah, but do you know what intelligence is? Didn't think so.
Well the Republicans showed the whole world their lack of intelligence in 2008, when they voted for Sarah Palin.
Now, that was a dumb move, in voting to put a complete proven idiot to be the second most powerful person in the world!
MO, you're a disgrace. People that went to Missou used to have the ability to think for themselves. How did you get caught up in the lemming parade? Are you going to follow people like Fiesty and Pigotry around. Wow, man up and stand on your own two feet. Remember, you're from Missouri.
Too late dr821. Mo jumped on the Obama train and has now relocated in Misery, the state created for and about liberalism.
You talking about the same Missou that is home to the Meth Lab Beltway? The same Missou that authorized Mormon persecution?
Please enlighten us on the virtues of Miseryns and edakation.
Mo sounds so much more sofisticated. You are another POS. on this blog. I hate to say I lived close to MO. that puts me to close to MO. I bet there is still stupid left whenever he walks out of the room. He can NOT take it all with him, there is just to much stupid in MO.
MO Intelligence something you will NEVER have. See I do know the difference. You have IGNORANCE.
Have a great day.
Talk about pigs flying, several conservative ones just flew over. Apparently conservatives continue to ignore all President Obama's talk about creating jobs, the debt, and just fly high on faux GOP talking points. Enjoy your flight but brace yourself for the landing.
The President has never really given his time to all these things. What was more important to him was paying back all the votes he got from the gay rights, minority votes, etc. Why is it only now we hear about it in a "President's state of the Union"?
I too am from Missouri and let me tell you that the great MO poster is definetly not the majority in this state. I wish he/she would use different codename because I too am alumni of MU and this is sickening.
RedDevs,
Wake up. You're still reading papers from 2004. It's 2013. If you don't like people from Missouri why didn't you just say so. The geographic area of Missouri you seem to be focusing on is but a 15th of the land mass of the great state of Missouri. The religious persecution you spoke of occurred during the turn of the 19th century (although religious persecution continues daily around the globe). The drug problem you spoke of occurred in 2004. So really, start reading something a little more current.
BTW, edakation should be spelled e-d-u-c-a-t-i-o-n. What level of education did you say you achieved? Anyone can cut and paste, but have you learned how to use spell-check yet? Maybe you should write something relevant on your own, rather than attacking the good people of Missouri as a whole by using cut-and-paste.
That way of thinking is why conservatism is dying, and, the Nation as a whole is moving more toward progressivism. People are tired of the stupid party, or as many call them the "bat crap crazies."
David Walker
Zealots
who believe in a cause, who are willing to sacrifice themselves for a principle
can be very dangerous. Their principle is beyond challenge. In their minds,
they are doing the RIGHT thing. Their moral righteousness surpasses mere mortal
considerations.
As
dangerous as those zealots are, a group even more dangerous is the one that
believes in a principle that is not real, that has no substance, that exists
only in the mind of the zealot. We have seen crusades where one religious group
or another will kill others to promote a god whose existence they cannot prove.
We have seen nation after nation go to war to defend freedom - or some other
"value" - that was never under attack.
There
seems to be so many of these groups. Maybe that's because the media focus on
the inexplicable actions of these extremists. They are so over-the-top crazy,
we stare at them in wonderment, laugh at them, forget them, and turn on the
newest over-the-top reality show.
Consider
a group of people who tend to be older, dress in strange clothes to which they
attach tea bags, and scream about fiscal responsibility. They have earned what
they have, they deserve it, and an evil government is taking their money. Hey,
come on, these gray-haired folks can't be dangerous. No? There's more of them
than we think, and they vote based on totally false assumptions.
This
a true story, not even a week old. A fellow walks in to a tax assistance
center. He's 68-years-old, and to protect his anonymity, we'll call him Joe
Stupid. He pays nothing for assistance. So, his preparer starts the return.
When they get to Schedule A, he puts the mortgage interest deduction on the
line. Joe Stupid was out of work for part of 2012, so he applied for assistance
through the state's foreclosure avoidance program. The program paid Joe's taxes
and interest. Joe paid only principal.
Joe
Stupid thinks he should be allowed to deduct all the interest and taxes, even
the amount paid by the state. (During the preparation of the return, our
volunteer tax preparer has been regaled with one attack after another on the
Socialist Obama. The preparer has tried to deflect such discussions as they are
not conducive to a speedy completion of a tax return.) Well, our intrepid
preparer explains that you aren't allowed to deduct expenses you did not incur.
This
enrages Mr. Stupid, who now realizes his volunteer tax preparer is a communist
working on behalf of the Socialist Obama. He is screaming at the top of his
lungs to alert others who don't have his insight. Commies and socialists
everywhere. After repeated and failed attempts to calm this man who has been
receiving Social Security, Medicare, mortgage AND tax assistance, he is finally
asked to leave.
In
68-years this man has not learned to do his own taxes. He does not grasp that
socialist programs have bailed him out. Mr. Stupid cannot control his temper.
Mr. Stupid votes. Remember that in 2014.
#1.10 - Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:33 AM CST
I think this guy meant in 2016 which
is when the next Presidential election takes place, but he does make a point…everyone
wants something for nothing.
I think this guy is a democrat but
he is quick to call the “old man” stupid.
Yet democrats keep supporting Obama even after most economists have
blasted his economic policies. Oh yeah,
and Democrats are”for the poor people”. Really? Why then are they STILL POOR?
Dems have raised minimum wage over
and over again and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems have raised the debt ceiling
over and over again and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems have given aid to all kinds of
minorities and then taken it away again and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems have gotten rid of the work
provision in welfare and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems have pushed through an
unconstitutional ObamaCare package and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems push more and more taxes on the
“rich” and that hasn’t fixed it.
Dems raise taxes on the corporations
and that hasn’t fixed it.
All of Congress just agreed to vote
themselves in ANOTHER pay increase and that hasn’t fixed it.
Tell me…when will Democrats get a
clue that in order to actually fix things for the poor, we have to raise the
standard of living for the poor? ( And CUT EXCESSIVE SPENDING).
This means real education…making
sure children have learned what they need to in each grade before passing them
on to the next level. Dems think that every child should be promoted (even if
not ready yet) in order to keep their self-esteem high. What happens to that self-esteem when they
graduate high school and can’t understand some of the questions on a job
application? OR worse think they should be promoted for positions in companies
they aren’t ready for simply because they want the higher pay and no one has
prepared them for “no”.
This also means instead of lying to
people and claiming that raising the minimum wage is helping the poor, we
educate them of what raising the minimum wage actually does, which is make the
cost of things they buy higher. Whichever business is now paying that higher
minimum wage has to pass that increase on to the person buying their goods so
if the worker at McDonald’s gets a dollar increase per hour, that cost shows up
in increases in what people pay for a hamburger. Minimum wage increases for the
workers in grocery stores will see increases in the cost of groceries. Thus,
the raise in minimum wage does nothing to help the poor person stop being poor.
When I ran for President I wanted to
REALLY help the poor. Part of my plan involved getting people off welfare, by
having them go to a vocational school of their choice while the taxpayer paid
them welfare for three years. During the
first two years the person would receive welfare while going to school. The
last year that same person would receive welfare while they worked at their new
job for one year. This would allow them to get a decent car and find good
housing, and hopefully start a savings account. After the third year welfare
would be cut off and the person who is now working in the new job would start
to pay back the cost of the school (at a rate they could afford) so that the
program becomes SELF-SUSTAINING.
This would free up money then for Medicare
and Medicaid.
Healthcare doesn’t have to cost us
an arm and a leg. Once we outsource the
fraud prevention part to American Express or Visa or Mastercard, that fraud
prevention would cut out a large chunk of what we currently pay. (Credit card
companies have fraud management down to a science. Less than 1%)
As for the sequester. It looked to
me like a last ditch effort on the Republican side to curb spending on the
Democrats side. How could they know that even with such a bad thing as the
consequence of continued spending, the Democrats would refuse to curb spending?
We can’t afford to cut defense in a
world where more than one country is “gunning for us”.
And we can’t afford to keep
pretending that everything Mr. Obama says is the truth either.
Unemployment is now “down to 7.9%”
Really?
Wasn’t that where it supposedly was
just before the last debate right before the election?
Unemployment is really over 11% and
rising.
Also, our economy isn’t going to go
into some sort of up-swing like they are claiming. Other countries aren’t in a
position to buy our goods like they used to, and China as well as other
countries are spending less on loans to the United States.
So…with fewer people to tax and less
ability to borrow, do you really think that only the “rich” will be taxed
higher?
Maybe you haven’t noticed that you
are already paying higher social security taxes than last year?
So…are YOU rich?
Speaking of Snippy Queens, didn't your mama teach you not to run with scissors in one hand, and Elmers Glue in the other. I love Missourians, I detest Miseryns (catch the word play there? - or did you get too hung up on edakation?). You got an issue with the characterization of Missourians, take it up with the ethnocentric poster lumping all Missourians as well educated, sophisticates, representative of main stream America.
Finally, proof that MU existed. Judging from the quality of the post, I'm not sure it was all that spectacular, although I'm sure it is a great place to be FROM.
Alright, State of the Union time, again.
Which means, again, that we get to hear how good old Barack is "pivoting" and "focusing like a laser" on "jobs".
Of course to Barack that means, spending more money we don't have, borrowing more money we can't pay back, demonizing the Republicans for not kowtowing to him and his "social justice" ideology, and of course attacking the successful in this country.
The usual annual message that means he's not going to do anything except put us further in debt, raise taxes on someone, and accomplish nothing.
94% of the national debt belongs to just 3 people, Reagan, Bush and Bush-Cheney
Obama needs to create some debt, in order to match these guys.
Obama has actually been pretty stingy about creating new debt.
http://reaganbushdebt.org/CalculationDetails.aspx
Job1,
After you come to your senses from completing the hand-Job1 on yourself take the time to read something relevant about the debt. No one in the world of finance would agree with your blame game assessment except fellow ultra left wing "Progressives". The fact that you only know how to point fingers but can't even figure out how to climb out of a wet paper bag sums it up.
First off I have flagged you for being inflammatory. Second, the Nation as a whole is moving more toward progressivism and conservatism is dying!!!
Inflammatory? You're cracking me up, and I thought we were getting to know each other and could be BFF. So sorry I hurt your feelings.
dr821, if you bothered to actually read something about who built the biggest share of the debt, then your comments might be worth discussing. Did you complain about the two unfunded wars and all the other unfunded GOP legislation passed from 2001 through 2006? Were you concerned then? Were you concerned when Reagan blew up the debt the first time, or Bush 41? Did you object to Bush 43's unfunded spending? If not, then the same applies to you as applies to those who do not bother to vote yet complain about their government.
Inflammatory? You're cracking me up, and I thought we were getting to know each other and could be BFF. So sorry I hurt your feelings.
Jody,
Should we then blame WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict on Democrats?
By the way, what truly was the reason for the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict? If I remember my history correctly, we fought those wars to protect ourselves from socialism and communism. WOW, if Truman and JFK could see us today they would likely switch parties.
Hand-jive, h-a-a-n-d jive, hand jive Job 1's doing that crazy "hand jive" !
Once again, you are suffering from delusions of adequacy BJ1 ... conservatism is alive, quite well and will bite you in the butt come November, 2014 ! By that time, Obamanomics will have earned the U.S. yet another credit downgrade and the unemployment will have risen again !!
I wonder ... will Obama will have a budget by then ?
I was hoping he'd ignore the economy so that it has a chance to recover. If he gets focused on the economy, I expect another 4 years of a "recovery" that consists of the people who actually pay for his agenda just hoping to survive until the Obama "recovery" is over.
Obama could best help our economy by spending more time at the golf course where all he can tear up is the greens ! Besides, he can LIE all he wants there and no one will care !!
Obama spent the first two years of his term ramming government controlled health care through Congress. He also spent almost 800 billion dollars on so-called shovel ready jobs, which turned out to be mainly keeping existing state and local government workers from getting canned. Now he's once again going to promise to make the economy all well again while working at more restrictive gun laws and getting amnesty for all the illegal immigrants in the U.S. Save your confederate money, boys. Soon it will be worth more than U.S. currency.
Obama should focus on his resignation. If not we will impeach him.
... where, on Comedy Central? Go for it, Progressives love a good laugh.
Impeach him because...?
Who is this we Jeff? The 5% of you tea people nuts. Republicans talk about impeachment every time there's a Democrat in the White house. You guys are nothing but a funny joke.
They think just because they don't like him are grounds for impeachment. Like I said funny joke.
@bcwc---Dont worry, you're good laugh is coming. It's called more taxes. Give it some time.
Jeff, impeach him for what? Gad, you people sound as nutty as liberals think you are.
Jeff that would do this country to much good neither side can have that. They are making a killing off the taxpayer today why would they want to cut off there own noses, just so we would think they are actully looking out for the rest of AMERICA.
WOW Jodi I guess you are one of those IGNORANT liberals.
If the POUS is removed than WHO becomes the Pres??? Now that is funny
Oh great, just what we need a fricken speech about which Obama knows nothing.
He was invited by Congress to speak. Maybe you should go have a word with Speaker Boehner about that.
Uh, Speaker Boehner is just the Speaker of the House, not the Senate. That job belongs to Harry Reid. And either way, it's the President's job to give the State of the Union Address before a Joint session of Congress. It's not an open invitation, but a requirement of the job as President.
ctopal, thought conservatives were big on the Constitution? You should maybe try reading it. It's not very long so....
Yet Oblamer wants to trample it like an old newspaper.
It seems like a BUDGET is also required by law ... and it is the President's job to see to it that the laws of our country are upheld ! Obama gets a big, fat "F" in that category .... enforced existing immigration laws ? ... NOPE ! Did he enforce DOMA ?? Nope. Has he ever PUSHED for a budget ??? Hell no !
Amazing how fast the bottom feeders come out, Feisty, Pigotry, Beverly, Jody, These IGNORANT low lifes must be paid puppets for MSN
Why are you so low..down here at #14???
And...it's an honor to be mentioned together with Feisty, Beverly, and Jody. Thanks...you are thus no ordinary Joe, at least to me, at least for one day (today).
Keep spewing the trash that comes out of your pie holes.
Pig thinks it an HONOR to be mentioned with the rest of the LOW LIFES. Great that is whats expected from IGNORANT PIGS, Have a great day.
I guess Obama now plans to pivot to creating more jobs. HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA
Obama sits in the dark and masturbates, while doing absolutely nothing to help our economy.
Boozer-1248521
... hey, whatever fantasy it takes to get you off.
Perhaps, you should stop staring at the mirror...
Perhaps you should lay off the alcohol for a while Boozer and attend an AA meeting or two.
There's nothing Obama can do. He's never done anything in his life other than get elected and he already did that and it didn't magically fix the economy. Progressives cannot actually do anything so unless something good happens due to the efforts of others while they're in charge normal people get harmed. As Obama only represents the laziest good for nothings among us they won't be hurt.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Perhaps, you should stop staring at the mirror...
Feisty, he looks in the mirror because he wants to be everything our President is. But , can't be since s/he has no class, intelligence, good looks, and need I mention does not qualify for President!!!
Just because OBLAMER should of never been elected in the first place these IDIOTS did elect the FAILURE. We will deal with it till he is gone then we will get this economy back on track. Tired of these CROOKS in Washington DC stealing from everyone, to support themselves in LUXURY.
Time to rid Washington DC of the lifer polititions.
Amazing to see those in Washington GOT RICHER though the recession that cost everyone else part of there wages or there job. Yet these CROOKS are making MORE, WAY MORE now than ever before. That is the problem we have with these CROOKS.
Obama is a world class liar. I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth. He is intent on destroying our country by punishing those who work, crippling the military, disarming our nuclear deterrant, putting muslims before christians in all things and trying to create hatred of white people by his black buddies.
more crap. i don't need another speech telling us how the repubs and dems aren't getting along and how we can fix this economy, unemployment, healthcare, illegal immigrants, blah blah blah. what i need is for ALL OF WASHINGTON to do what the people sent them there to do. MAKE IT WORK. if you can't resign and we shall give someone else the chance. we need NO ELECTED official ever re-elected. that is how you get things done. give them ONE CHANCE to make a difference, and at the end of the term you are gone NEVER TO RETURN. that way special interest groups don't have you camping out in a chair for the next 5 decades doing what they need. this is OUR government and it is time we take it back. i sucked it up and never complained when my ss taxes went back up from the last cuts. i appreciate the little breather it gave me but as a citizen of the United States i am willing to do my part for my country. now it is time for WASHINGTON to do their part. i want cuts!! i don't want to hear that it will set everyone back, blah blah blah. we the working class did our part...do yours
To my liberal friends, Fisty, Ms. Piggy, IU Runs and OSU Denseness. Yerbama has no clue on the economy. His only concerns are social issues. Like how many illegal Mexicans can I get to vote for me? How many people can I kill with drones, especially Americans without due process. How many more people can I get on government welfare by raising taxes and increasing health care and insurance costs. The list goes on. The economy? He surfs the clue free zone, my special friends. Whatever he can do to make the constitution illegitimate is the goal. Like IU Runs says, welcome to the new normal.
Just another dog and pony show from the POTUS. The economy is not a priority until you get in front of the prime time audience.
He got acting classes from his CRONIES in Hollywood. He did put on a great act. He will earn an emmy by the time he is done acting POTUS. When is he going to actually do his JOB.
the democrat apologists aided by a press that has been asleep at the press have helped create the faux president. grow the economy from the middle, does anyone know what that means other than it polls well and means more deficit spending? last time i listened to him he said if it's too hard for congress to raise the debt limit give me that authority. guess he forgot as a senator he said hitting the debt limit is a sign of poor management and voted no. could it be democrats will insist on addressing the economy, deficits, debt, and entitlements? many americans have stopped listening to yada yada i'm sure if things change and he really addresses those issues the ground will shift and they'll know that there might really be something being said.
OK So Obama is going to speak about the economy. This could be the shortest SOTUS ever.
"My fellow Americans. The economy sucks. Thank you."
This is a speech I have to see! After all, Mr. Obama is President of the 21st century Roman Empire...
More the same “ Spin Mongering “of a socialistic regime that is lead by the central Media Dontmatter. My problem with the politicians’spin process at this time is that there is no one in the major news media who will question the overtly obvious misinformation and deliberately false reporting of the figures. No president in American history has been given this sort of slavish acquiescence. Such adoration as is daily given Mr. Obama by ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and practically all others that constitute mainstream news journalism is nothing short of dangerous to assuring a free, well-informed populace. Such sycophantic obeisance is the kind of stuff of which dictatorships of every variety are made.
One must wonder whether this idolization of America’s first black president–making him the equivalent of a cult figure, a celebrity icon worthy of Hollywood in its heyday-might be setting up in the minds of some the possibility of attempting a most disturbing constitutional change. As a matter of fact, there are growing rumors to that effect. The rosy picture being painted, cooking the books, and just downright lying about the economy roaring back, when in actuality it is headed in the opposite direction–it is feared—are an attempt to set up certain outcomes for the 2014 midterm elections. Might it be, it is conjectured, that creating the illusion of a robust economy is desired by the president’s slavish press in order to enhance chances for winning a greater majority in the senate, and to win back the House of Representatives for the Democrat party in the midterm elections–thus to begin dismantling certain constitutional restrictions with a majority in both houses of Congress?
You need to listen to less Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh.
No Da Noid he really needs to get some mental help. Thank goodness it's covered by Obamacare.
Dahhhh DA NOID Dahhhhh Me listen to NBC to tell me everything to think, me rounded zombie like you. Me need a pill...
Obama will focus on the economy like a laser beam, It will be the summer of recovery, 2013.
How about the Summer of George?
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Summer of recovery...
You mean Obama's vacation schedule, right?
By late summer/fall we will be spiraling into the next recession fast and hard....fueled of course by higher taxes and the added burden more workers out of a job collecting unemployment and welfare.
Good job barry...Great job destroying our country.
Prove it.
Markin, "the private sector is doing fine" or "if unemployment is above 6% i won t run for a second term" Do you need more top ten favorites from the King Odumbo hit parade?
It's already started...the avg worker now has $100 less per month because of the Social Security tax hike. More tax hikes on the way!....My father in law and brother in law just got let go last week because of the so-called "affordable" care act. Now there are 4 more adults and 7 children going on welfare and food stamps.
Where is the proof we are going into recession later this year? I am waiting.
@ Markinbecker, we are already in it. Sad part you don't realize it. There is no growth in the economy except govt growth. But govt takes in does not give. It like a parasite (which is the govt) living in the host (American citizens) it does not want to kill us but is does want to make us weak and ill until it can suck everything out of us. Then wants us to die quickly after it finds another host to live in. This is an example of a Barrysite or AKA Demysite.
The only thing that this goofball can focus on is his own ego and how to pay back the Welfare Unions (with the hard earned money of the Middle Class) that re-elected him!!
I refuse to waste good electricity watching this patheological liar.
