Hagel declines to answer questions about releasing more documents

Former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) met with Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) on Capitol Hill Thursday. The two met in original Appropriations Committee hearing room in the Capitol.

A Democratic aide said Mikulski, as Appropriations chair, planned to discuss the looming sequester with Hagel.

The two took no questions during a brief photo opp. Hagel declined to answer questions about whether he would release additional documents to the Armed Services Committee, as Republicans are requesting.

A vote in the committee on his nomination, originally planned for today, was delayed, as Republicans are asking for more about his financials and speeches.

ENOUGH!

We are witnessing in HD, what happens when a Republican breaks ranks with the current crop of bat @!$%# crazies!

This is a Senate confirmation hearing... NOT... a freakin witch hunt!

If these right wing clowns spent 1/4 of their time legislating rather than obstructing, imagine where we might be today...

The GOP just makes everything so difficult and painful because they hope we will give in to them. They are like the 3 year old who throws a temper tantrum to get his way. Only that is an insult to 3 year olds because they don't know any better and hopefully they learn better ways of behaving. The ones who don't grow up to be Republicans.

I hope the Democrats and the administration call their bluff every time they pull this nonsense.

And this is their theme song:

How much have we spent on this Hagel confirmation - $100M thus far?

. . . and they probably wouldn't bother to read what he produced, just like they didn't go to the Benghazi hearings, then whined & carried on about not having enough information.

I never thought I'd say this, so soon after an election, but I can hardly wait for 2014 . . . and NC is 'all red," now in our state gov, and they are dragging us back to the 15th century here. NC was a fairly progressive state (once we got rid of Jesse Helms) before the 2010 midterms - we CANNOT make that mistake again: thinking the midterms don't matter!

BatCrapCrazy indeed.

"the King"? Huh? I don't know what country you think you are in, but here in the good old US of A, we have a president. What's with Conservatives that they don't even know that? How can we take anything you say seriously when you don't even know that simple little item?

You guys are hilarious! Hagel completely bombed his confirmation hearing so that he even lost Democrat support, but you want to back the idiot who doesn't even know the definition of containment.

Remember, it was one Obama staffer who described Hagel’s testimony on Iran as “somewhere between baffling and incomprehensible.”

Once again the fisting deadhead rears it's ugly head to post nonsense about yet another subject she has no clue of. Hagel is a lying appeaser unfit to be our Secretary of Defense. Just as our current one; who is busy lying his old fat ass off in front of Congress today. He made the bold statement that Obama had nothing to do with the decisions made about Benghazi.

I understand it's a lie to cover for the most corrupt and incompetent man we have ever had the poor misforetune to call President, but to tell the whole world he is so incompetent he couldn't even be reached to ask directions during an attack on our consulate while you think you're covering for him is PRICELESS.

Nothing has changed with BHO's presidency vs. past presidents - NOTHING! Back door meetings & much out of the ordinary foreign visits with impeccable timing... Why did BHO choose now, in his 5th year as president, to visit Israel? Doesn't your inquisitive mind even question this? Doesn't logic give you pause to think, "hey, I wonder why he timed his visit for now, at this point in his 5th year"?

Let's see...he's in position to be confirmed as the next SecDef and you are quoting news clippings that say what a Staffer said...something tells me that the gleeful nature in which you declare Democrat support has fled Senator Hagel won't quite bare itself out once the votes are tallied.

If you are so concerned and filled with all your conspiracy theories........BTW, what's up with you guys and all your conspiracy theories anyway? Is that just typical of your types? Everything THIS president is or has done is all part of some conspiracy in your eyes. You and others like you are completely hysterical(and not in the haha sense of the word).

I agree, Lisa. I have watched two interviews with him now, neither of which were on MSNBC(for all the hysterical conspiracy theorists), and I find him to be down to earth and he sounds like he knows what he's talking about. I like the fact that he sees things through the eyes of real soldiers, the ones that are serving and dying for our country. I think the Conservatives don't like him because they are afraid he will keep us out of war and their war profiteering will drop off.

They need to know more about his financials.... Of all the unmitigated gall!!!!!

Let me get this straight.... Their own parties Presidential candidate doesn't have to show actual tax returns, just some long awaited hokum by percentages spread over years to gloss over probable fines and penalties paid for absolutely willful malfeasance. A method of chicanery that gives fines and penalties the power to actually make his "publicized annual tax rate" look better...

Aaaand... They're by golly gonna make sure Hagel's on the up & up because they exist to do the work of and to adhere to their oaths to do the will of the pipple!!!!

If they weren't so blatantly moronic they would be funny.

I think they have the majority (that VAST one) of the American people mistaken for stupid... Maybe if they spent less time with their dwindling constitchencies and Corporate keepers they wouldn't be fooled so easily into thinking they're getting away with it.

Oh, how the Democrats and liberal media demanded to see every receipt Romney ever got!

But now suddenly they're surprised that Senate Republicans want to know how much money Chucky got from foreign governments, foreign organizations, and basically just some idea of who he's been working for over the last five years!!!

So I'll tell you who Chuck Hagel got money from:

Chuck Hagel received money from the Iran Lobby, which works to fight sanctions against Iran.

Chuck Hagel received money from an organization called 'Friends of Hamas'.

Chuck Hagel received money from Lebanese groups.

.

.

.

Oh, and what has Chuck Hagel been saying over the last few years? Surprise, surprise:

Chuck Hagel voted against, spoke and wrote in his book against sanctions on Iran!

Chuck Hagel called to recognize and engage with Hamas!

Chuck Hagel defended Hezbollah, and attacked Israel's war against Hezbollah's cross-border terror!

Chuck Hagel called America the "world's bully" on Al Jazeera!

.

Chuck Hagel is the wrong man for the job! Chuck Hagel would hurt America's security!

It is every senator's duty to stop Chuck Hagel from ever becoming secretary of defense!

Quote........During his 2000 presidential run, a New Hampshire voter asked Republican Sen. John McCain who he might choose as secretary of defense.

McCain responded by tossing out the name of a dear old friend and colleague, the very man who would be nominated to that post by a Democrat and frequent McCain target 13 years later.

"There's a lot of people that could do that," he told voters at a January town hall in Nashua, New Hampshire. "One of 'em, I think, isSen. Chuck Hagel.".........http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/31/politics/hagel-mccain........EndQuote

One wonders when Sen. McCain will (publicly) denounce Sarah Palin. Surely he believes she lost him the election in 2008.

I think that when it's finally revealed that Chuck Hagel received money from the Iranian Lobby, and from other foreign governments like Saudi Arabia, and groups like "Friends of Hamas", Obama will have to withdraw his nominee, or he will leave the Republican Senators no choice but to filibuster.

Going into Libya was a mistake from day one and it cost U.S. taxpayers about $1 billion in Cruise missiles ! Obama made the decision without Congressional approval which was directly opposite of one of his speeches a few years before.

Your ridiculous assumption the question was "answered adequately" is asinine ... Hagel has repeatedly dodged direct answers to direct questions whenever convenient for him to do so.

Jim: Going into Libya was a mistake? Not to mention the around two hundred Americans that was killed on the Pan Am flight. That sounds like a good reason to me!

            #5.5 - Fri Feb 8, 2013 8:56 AM EST

So, a many-years delayed "revenge" motive is your justification ?

Let us be honest .... after the Pan Am deaths, the U.S. later destroyed some sites in Libya thought to be producing munitions or chemical weapons. After that, Moammar Khaddafi changed tunes significantly and decided NOT to antagonize the U.S. any longer. Therefore, Moammar was no longer a threat to our National Security.

Some said the U.S. bombed an aspirin factory. Perhaps you forgot about the prior "revenge" ... if you want to call it that.

Hagle will be approved. Jack Lew may have a bit more trouble. Clearly, he has been hiding money in the Caymans for years. I wonder if he and Rommney use the same banker....?? Anyway, he has been shielding income in the Caymans and therefore (according to Democrat logic) he must be doing something illegal.

Can someone tell me why this guy has offshore secret bank accounts in the Caymans???

Did you know he was wounded twice on the battle field in Vietnam ? It seems to me like they want to get a yes man in that office, that will do their parties bidding without question! The trouble with that is they lost the election its not their cabinet!

Hagel needs to answer questions adequately .... he HAS NOT done that ! But then again, he is another Obama appointee and therefore should be rubber-stamped without any accountability .... at least as you "progressives" (LOL !) would have it !

YOU with your minimal intelligence, are in no position to call anyone a moron unless you're looking in the mirror. But hey, you're a PERFECT low information Republican. You're kind is all they've got. The intelligent people already left the party!

And, idiot, no one is jumping ship. The 2nd administration of ANY President sees significant changes in their staff. Their jobs are stressful and demanding and it's hard to stay for more than one term. We don't expect an idiot like you to understand stressful and demanding - just think of it as a whole LOT of WORK and LOTS of HOURS EVERY DAY. Maybe that will compute - but I truly doubt it!

Strange ~ a man can run for president and keep his tax and business records (including offshore bank accounts) from public scrutiny but a nominee for a cabinet post must bear his entire past at the behest of a panty-waist senator. Somehow there just doesn't seem to be a lot of equity in that arrangement.

Steve, it's hard to tell whether your clinically ill or not, but how can you possibly make claims like "Obama spent millions to keep his college papers out of public"?

And if they haven't been released, how can you possibly say "barely passed his classes"?

And he didn't go to school as a foreign student. I'd recommend you go to Snopes or FactCheck.org except that you'd probably find nothing there but a lot of communist propaganda.

In any case, what does any of that have to do with the extraordinary demands being made of Hagel by the extremist wing of the Republican party?

I think Steve was just being a little sarcastic about a man that.

Traveled to a country that was forbidden by U.S. citizens.

Has a Social Security number from a state where he didn't live.

                Forgets he is half white.

And has relatives in the country illegally.

As far as his transcripts being sealed....That's his business!

He was a Congressman and he did have the courage to stand

for his believes and vote present 129 times!

And he did put Bush in his place when he said (And this is the quote)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills," Obama said.

"Instead of reducing the deficit, as some people claimed, the fiscal policies of this administration and its allies in Congress will add more than $600 million in debt for each of the next five years," he said, adding,"Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

Instead of a Senate confirmation hearing this is turning into the Spanish Inquisition. I don't think Hagel should answer another question. The only reason those questions are being asked is because Barack Obama whupped the old fart McCain upside his head in 2008 and the old guy is trying to bet back at him. Meanwhile Hagel is caught in the middle. Enough of the grandstanding, posturing and gotchas already. Confirm Hagel and get on with more important stuff like the budget, job creation and immigration reform for starters, not to mention curbing of gun violence in this country. Way too much time is wasted on Hagel who will likely be confirmed anyway and McFossil knows it.

Hagel is not being wildly accepted by some of the Democrats because of his poor showing last week during his confirmation hearings. They are troubled but may still vote for him but we shall see what happens. He needs five Republicans in the senate to vote for him and as of today he has only one who is committed to his nomination as SecDef

To all conservatives: Boycott the following and watch most of them rot:

                    * msnbc (where the butchy women have balls and weak, lispy men are awash in estrogen)...dead last in cable news and gets raked by sponge bob in time slot.

                    * cbs, abc, nbc - terrible, boring programing and slowly sinking in ratings vs cable. NEVER, EVER WATCH THESE CHANNELS

                    * CNN -near death as a news station, and relying on human crap like bloated Morgan to survive - constantly reshuffled station is a dead duck...BOYCOT IT AND KILL IT FOR GOOD.

                    * newsweak - someone bought it for a dollar and way over-paid...will be first major lib toilet paper diguised as a magazine to die, and good riddence.. I will throw a huge party when this trash death-spirals into its coffin of bankrupcy.

time -another crappy publication that pretends to be important..so near death that going to enet wont save it

                    * NY slimes - once if goes mostly to the net its dead...but it dead already but doesnt t know it yet. Pure biased, opining slop to the point of being unreadable let alone uninformative.

                    * scientific american - not science anymore, just opining faux-reasearch whores trying to justify their reasearch grants..once great but now PURE LIBERAL ARTS GARBAGE.

                    * entertainment weakly...told my fam that I pay the bills and dont want a political rag disguised as a girly pop magazine in my house,..worse yet its stupid girl politicing.

                    * Your local newspaper (if you live on the west coast or northeast...a moderate boycott by just the hard right in these states will kill these bird cage liners once and for all. newspapers are already paper thin and only bulked up with advertisement for junk you dont wnt to buy.

LET THE OBAMA-LEG-HUMPING, LIBERAL LAMESTREAM MEDIA KNOW THAT CONSERVATIVES PAY A DISPORPORTIONATE AMOUNT FOR THESE SUBSCRIPTIONS...IF YOU BOYCOTT THESE FINANCIAL MESSESS THEY WILL ROT.

IF YOU ARE SICK OF BIASED OPINERS WHO LIE AND CALL THEMSEVES JOURNALIST, THEN PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS...THE ABOVE ARE BARELY HANGING ON...SHOW THEM WHERE THE REAL POWER OF THE RIGHT IS.

LET THE LIBERALS SUBSIDZE THE ABOVE SLOP ON THEIR OWN ...and watch them die for lack of sales

***Copy and paste this on 25 blogs as I have done...and watch the butterfly effect that has alredy begun to hit near critical mass***

"Someone else"! You must be one of those "don't tread on me dudes". I am so inspired by your persuasive rhetoric that I am going to do all of those things and get my propaganda right from Limbaugh and Fox.

I think that you sound just like John Bulushi in Animal House trying to rouse the drunken frat boys to
action. Yep, that was a "when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" speech,
if I have ever heard one. (snorts with laughter)

Look, nothing will ever remove the hair that chronically lies across the Republicans cheeks, period.

The Republican behavior is unprecedented in these proceedings. Condi Rice was on Exxon's board and even had a tanker named after her, but she was never asked about her finances. Another appointee in basically the same "boat" was Paulson.

They're just pathetically shameless and transparent. They DO NOT operate with the country's best interests at heart. Despicable...

Look at all the self-righteous liberals LOL!

Two words you won't be reading on BSNBC:

                    BOB MENENDEZ

                    What a bunch of hypocrites.

Hey genius, this article isn't about Menendez, it's about Hagel. Is that the best you've got?

It would be surprising if Hagel could possibly meet Republican demands even if he wanted to. They're asking for transcripts of all his speeches over the last five years, plus the notes those speeches were based on.

Of course, we have to admit that Hagel didn't give an especially good performance at his hearings. The same can't be said of McCain and Graham, who launched forceful and blistering attacks against him. They asked questions that were impossible to answer. "Did the surge work? Yes or no." They stopped just short of, "Do you still beat your wife? Yes or no." Maybe Obama should have nominated someone who was a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

But we all recognize that this has nothing to do with Hagel's qualifications as Secretary of Defense. It's all about punishing Obama.

Notice how the numbers are more than 2 to 1 in favor of Progressives over crazies? That right there is a microcosm of what is happening to the r party in the USA. And, since they're doubling down on their stupidity, the future looks bright for Progressives and for America!

John McCain rightfully exposed Hagel as in-competent foreign agent of Iran and Hamas terrorist organization. The truth is clear that Hagel is an anti-semite of the worse kind. He hates our friends in Israel. The Bible is clear, 'I will bless those who bless you (Jews/Israel) and curse those (Palis, Hamas, terrorists) who curse you (Jews/Israel)'. Its clear that Hagel is bad for our Christian nation.

President Obama and Chuck Hagel should tell the GOP/Tea Party to SHOVE IT!
