Boehner: DREAM Act 'worthy of consideration'

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said bringing up something like the DREAM Act would be "worthy of consideration" a day after his No. 2, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), embraced the plan that would give children brought to the United States illegally a pathway to citizenship.

Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Fla., joins The Daily Rundown to explain how Congress can move forward on immigration reform.

The idea is "worthy of consideration," Boehner said Wednesday at his weekly press conference. As speaker, he said, he wants to "do everything I can to foster this continuing conversation" regarding immigration.

Yesterday during a speech that aides described as "Republican re-branding," Cantor expressed support for ideas found in the DREAM Act that were voted down by Congress in 2010 saying.

"It is time to provide an opportunity for legal residence and citizenship for those who were brought to this country as children and who know no other home," Cantor said.

Boehner did not wholly embrace the DREAM Act, however, which is understandable considering the speaker has to weigh politics within his conference.

This is a real shock. A political party modifying or changing its position because that position is contributing to being out of power. It is all a matter of principle until it is a matter of job security and power.

"Immigration reform" brings many fixes along with it.

Consideration and conversation...yep, that ought to get a bill passed.

Boehner's quote that "The dream act is worthy of consideration" is proof positive that the current GOP base mindset is a failing strategy and that the party as a whole has been forced to cry "uncle" on the subject. Just a few months ago, the republican party was dead-set against the dream act and were all lining up behind their candidate, Myth Romney, who ran on the pledge to make life so miserable for the undesirables that they would "self-deport". So much for that strategy.

Obama is going to make all the illegal immigrants legal anyway. They can all bring their families here and sign up for Food Stamps, subsidized housing, Medicaid, free schools (staffed by Spanish speaking teachers), and a host of other government give away programs. Once they are legal they won’t have to pay taxes because of EITC and Child Tax credits. How about this for a Dream Act… I dream of being able to spend my hard earned money on my family. I dream of not living a lower standard of living than I am earning because I have to support so many other people who have “needs”. I have needs too and I take responsibility for those needs. And I don’t break any laws doing it. How about immigrants coming here legally and our own welfare crowd getting off their dead asses and earning their own living? How about illegal immigrants going home. What’s wrong with that?

taxed, that would be awful, if it were true.

But I'm sure you understand that a president cannot make law. That's Congress' job.

Lame Boehner speaks for no one except himself. Institutionalization way overdue.
