Sen. John McCain
Updated 12:52 pm ET. Always one to speak -- or Tweet -- his mind, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) Monday made a joke comparing Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to a monkey, something one Republican congressman charged was “racist.”
“So Ahmadinejad wants to be first Iranian in space - wasn't he just there last week?” McCain said in a tweet that also linked to a story about Iran launching a monkey into space.
Some didn’t take so kindly to the not-so-diplomatic quip, prompting McCain, 76, to respond: “Re: Iran space tweet - lighten up folks, can't everyone take a joke?”
Seeing that, Michigan congressman Rep. Justin Amash, 32, shot back.
“Maybe you should wisen up & not make racist jokes,” Amash tweeted.
Not everyone on the right agreed with Amash. Conservative John Podhoretz, for example, Tweeted this: "How dare McCain say something demeaning & disparaging abt the foremost anti-Semite on the planet." And this: "So...it's defend-the-Jew-hater-from-the-war-hero day."
It’s not the first time McCain’s made a joke about Iran that landed him in some hot water. During his run for president in 2007, McCain sang about bombing the country.
Asked by a GOP primary voter when the U.S. would send an “air-mail message to Tehran,” McCain said, “That old Beach Boys’ song, ‘Bomb Iran?’ Bomb, bomb, bomb—, anyway.”
McCain’s response then as now? It’s just a joke -- "get a life.”
“When veterans are together, veterans joke,” McCain said at the time. “And I was with veterans and we were joking. And if somebody can’t understand that, my answer is, ‘Please, get a life.’”

Yep. Calling Achtungadimwitajob a monkey is giving him credit for intelligence he doesn't have.
This is the man who wanted to be President. He has been an out-spoken critic of Ms. Clinton's diplomatic skills. Yet, we see here an example of his own lack of Presidential demeanor or diplomatic skills. I was a supporter of Senator McCain previous to his selection of Ms. Palin as a running mate. Nothing he has said or done since that time has renewed my previous belief in his abilities. I applaud his heroism during the Vietnam War and salute his service to this country. As a senior citizen myself, I hesitate to challenges his abilities based on age, but seniors need to recognize that the world has changed and not just because they can tweet.
Show me where McCain just got an Ambassador killed.
Since when is making a comment to demoralize our enemy an unreasonable act? That rag-head has been threatening us for years. If he realizes that we are not trembling in our boots and that we regard him as less than adequate, maybe he'll crawl back under the rock he came from.

The only way somebody can be insulted is if they agree with what was said about them. So, if Abbadoodad is insulted, that constitutes an acknowledgement of the fact.

McCain reminds me of my Dad. He tries to hide it, but he's a bigot. He grew up in a time when those jokes were considered funny, and he thinks it's okay to tell a bigoted joke about an enemy of the United States, and he just doesn't get it that racial bigotry is always going to offend somebody. Those jokes aren't funny anymore. McCain's a dinosaur. He keeps sticking his foot in his mouth because he's at an age, mentally, where he should be retired and telling his stories to his grandchildren and his cronies. Some men don't ever reach that age, but McCain's mind is gone. He did not recover from losing the election to Obama in 2008, and he hasn't been sharp ever since. He just rants now and hasn't anything valuable to offer. People need to keep microphones away from him. The word is PITY.

Ahmedinijad has been using similar terminology about Jews which you think would get Progressives upset were it not for Jew hating being a bedrock of Progressive belief. Ahmedinijad is the spawn of a pig and a dog and I applaud McCain for saying like it is.

While I realize McCain should be a bit more selective with his choice of wording I also feel this has been blown out of proportion. Why is it that someone always has to play the race card? To keep racism alive is also back on those who always cry "racist". Good Lord get a grip and move on.
