First Read Minute: From immigration to guns, Hagel to Brennan
NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss CIA nominee John Brennan, President Obama's continued push on gun control, and recap the confirmation hearing for Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel.
Resident Reasonable Republican present and accounted for.
In regards to Mr. Gore I posted my thoughts on the previous Chu Out string.
Blackcat, bring it on. Only today, I will mix anything you post for real. Don't tell anyone, I'm "working from my home office" today.......ok, ok, playing hooky....... it has been a helluva week for a lot of reasons......
Mark in So Cal, can you resend your website address? I've been looking for it off and on for a few weeks now, but I have evidently misplaced it. You have some photos there of Russia and I want to take another look at one of them in particular.
Can't help thinking the GOP shouldn't be as nasty to Brennan, who served under Bush, as they were to Hagel but these days, being a republican or serving under a republican president seems to guarantee an Obama nominee a temper tantrum from the usual GOP children. Maybe between now and the next nominee's confirmation hearing, Harry Reid can Senate mandate a class teaching respect and manners.
Feisty, LOL. They'd suffer a permanent case of depression and anxiety just at the mention of Al Gore and Dept of Energy in the same sentence.
The DJIA crossed 14,000 for the first time since 2007 today...yet, even with jobs added according to the Dept of Labor report this morning, we hear from Conservatives that it's not enough.
What does this tell us?
Might it not be that businesses are succeeding by going "lean and mean"?
And it could tell us that the "uncertainty" over the fiscal cliff, the debt ceiling and the sequester has made businesses nervous about hiring more workers. Or both!
Or they are making plenty of money using cheap labor overseas. The obvious thing is they are not to worried about President Obama's plan. I remember how the right used to call Obama all kinds of name, well they still do that. But I don't hear so much how is a failure anymore or how he is in over his head. If the election did just that it would be worth it.
Anyone want to join the movement to make Obama king for life? 3. 2. 1. >>>>>>> pop, bam, boom.
Da Noid "The DJIA crossed 14,000 for the first time since 2007 today...yet, even with jobs added according to the Dept of Labor report this morning, we hear from Conservatives that it's not enough."
The DJIA is still below where it was under Bush in 2007, and the Unemployment Rate went UP to 7.9%. It was 7.3% in Bush's last full month in office (December 2008).
According to the official Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average number of people working in 2008 (including jobs lost at the end of the year) was 136,794,000. For 2012, the average number of people working was 133,254,000 - a LOSS of 3,540,000 jobs.
Is that REALLY worth bragging about after 4 years of Obama?
Why do you insist on using the last month in 2008 as the watermark for the end of Bush's influence on the country? You do know his influence would extend to at least May or June of 2009, don't you? What do the numbers look like if you use May of 2009 as the baseline?
Actually the last Bush Budget extends to Oct. 1., and the legacy spending well past that. IE) two wars, and a drug benefit that Bush never budgeted when he handed Obama a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit in his last budget. We are still feeling the effect of the Bush recession today even though many of the economic numbers have recovered. The unemployment numbers are lagging, with a good reason of republican obstructionism, creating doubt in the manufacturing sector as to demand. Roy is a troll, his post have little relevance to reality.
Just watched that speech myself. Hillary is most definitely a class act. I for one think overall she did a heck of a job. John Kerry's got a tough act to follow.
John Brennan is one serious dude. I've seen him on MTP. Hey! I'm looking forward to seeing Chuck Todd moderate the panel on Sunday! Don't be nervous, Chuck, I'm pulling for you.
King Obozo is filling his cabinet openings, more losers on the dole. That would be a hoot, Algore Secretary of Energy. Why not he has already cashed in on his "TV Network". He could really push the climate change scam from there.
I would say happy Friday but if you are one of the over 20 million Americans without a job, every day is Friday.
Justaplumber--- The icecaps melting must be a Liberal scam to promote alternative energy sources. As soon as we switch over from dirty coal they are going to re-direct the icecaps to freeze back again. I hear that Al Gore is adept at flipping that switch.
Do you think the icecaps have ever melted before? Sure they have, many times.
The climate change scam is the most perfect scam ever! No way to prove it, no way to disprove it. I don't care what Man-bear-pig says only God can change the weather.
Have you looked at the air quality in China? Have you looked at the air quality in Utah? Climate issues are more than just storms, plumber . . . WAY more!
My niece did an internship here ... check it out and educate yourself a bit .. .by the way, are dinosaurs a government scam in your book?????
Are you justaplumber in the oil or coal industry's or what? When will you believe in man made or even enhanced global warming which is changing our climate? Maybe when you are up to your neck in sea water.
It isn't exact, but there are plenty of signs that things are changing, things in your normal day like more incidence of skin cancer, animals that don't belong this far south are showing up. The frequency and severity of the storms that are occurring. Some places drying out and some places are all wet, but not in the geographic area that belongs in. Yes, the arctic ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Look if I am wrong my great grand kid will apologize to your great grand kid, and ask him how he likes the cleaner earth. If I am right your grand kid will deny that he lives in a geophysic dome because the air outside is poison to breath.
Either way it won't hurt to update the technology and learn to harvest energy from clean sources. Speaking of which I see a couple of car companies have gotten together to develop a energy cell car. Wow, tomorrow is happening again for me. Just think, jet planes, rockets, and now green energy. I have seen it in my life time.
A clean earth is one thing, destroying our economy is another. C.O. is a part of our atmosphere that we can not do with out. Plants depend on it to grow. Some how Algore has convinced all of you that C.O. is a bad thing.
This planet has warmed and cooled thousands of times. Hint----it is caused by that big red thing that comes over the horizon every morning. Yes the dinosaurs where here and are now gone, what exactly did humans have to do with that? If anything the whole dinosaur thing proves my point.
Chicken little Gore says the sky is falling and we need to give all of our money to him.
If you want to know the truth about climate change go into your yard before daylight and face east.
No, justaplumber, the big energy companies have you convinced that carbon is a good thing. It isn't. The fact is it is you that is deluded into thinking that green energy will ruin our economy and that is as far as could be from the truth. If you want to know the truth about climate change go to the National Geographic website and do some research, it has pictures, and even you should be able to figure out pictures.
You mention that the earth has changed 1000's of times. It hasn't in the extremes that we are talking about, nor the rate that it is changing. You also say a clean earth is one thing, no it is everything. I wish Rush Limbaugh would just STFU on stuff a junior college drop out cannot possible understand.
Do you realize the money that big energy will spend to dirty the earth? and get folks like you to believe their barnyard bovine excrement? Al Gore is a good man. He is making more and more people aware of the peril our grand children are in.
Al Gore would be a good choice for Sec. of Energy. He has done more investigation and has a greater understanding of energy than most people do. Yes, the T people would have exploding heads and that can't be a bad thing.
Al Gore is good subject material for late night humor such as Jay Leno ... other than that, he is nothing more than an egotistical hypocrite ! No wonder liberals love him so much !!!!!!!!!!!
4. In August of 2009, Contessa Brewer sliced and diced a photograph so it wouldn't look like a black man attended a Tea Party carrying a firearm.
5. Just this week, NBC News maliciously edited video of a town council meeting to make it look as though Second Amendment civil rights activists heckled a parent who lost his son in Newtown.
Not to mention the biased news coverage at "First Read" and the coddling of nasty personal attacks and smearing by favored leftists in the comments....
So, when will Roger Ailes, Sean Hannity, the cast of FOX & Friends, Bill O'Reilly, etc. be fired from FOX News having done all of those "alleged" things and more?
Yep--totally lost . So much so, in fact, that they just won their second-biggest majority in the House since 1948. Gosh, I hope it doesn't get worse for them!
Better check your stats, too. The very largest "welfare states" are predominately blue!
Comprehensive immigration reform is a code for "amnesty". Reagan was wrong to do it, and so are all other proponents of amnesty. Why reward lawbreakers at the expense of immigrants trying to come here the right way?
Al Gore for Energy Secretary?? Are you freaking kidding me? When donkeys fly! The most hypocritical man pushing green energy is hardly qualified to head the Department!
I wonder how long before Kerry utters the words "Well, we inherited quite a mess. It was much worse than we thought, and I am just not sure if 4 years is enough time to turn things around."
Hagle's comments regarding gays have "evolved". No one in the Democratic Party has EVER been cited for hypocrisy. If that had been Ryan or Romney that said those offensive things years ago--no matter what their thinking today on the subject--they would have been crucified. But because President Obama wants Hagle, all is forgiven since Hagle has "evolved". Sheesh!
Al Gore for Secretary of Energy if you want to witness some right wing heads explode! lmao
67 degrees here in ChiTown Tuesday, 11 degrees yesterday -
NOPE! No such thing as climate change!
Hey... where is everyone?
I'm firing up the still for the Friday finale ... get your bucket and straw ready.
BCWC . . .
PERFECT! It's been a helluva week at sea . . .
@Fiesty,
Here we is! Oh, God, could you imagine the response if Gore were to be appointed to that post? Would be priceless!
@BCWC,
I got me a 55 gal drum. Hope that's okay! Ah's POWERFUL thirsty!

I got plenty of ice! lol
*waves to Bali Bob*
Mark in So Cal, I voted you up on that post. I totally agree with you.
Good to see you Mr. (R)! lol
I'm a gonna have to check it out! I know you won't disappoint! ☺
@Mark,
...it has been a helluva week for a lot of reasons...
Boy, you got that right. I'm particularly troubled by the hostage situation in Alabama. I sure hope they can get that poor kid out okay.
Count your Blessings, folks!
{OT here for a moment}

Bali Bob, definitely hope they get that little boy home safe today.
old man, we've got some sparkling grape juice special for you.
old man, Nice to see you back. I'll make sure they have some grape kool-ade.
I had to laugh at a shirt someone was wearing outside the Welfare office this morning - it read;
"Hard work pays off in the Future, but laziness pays off NOW".
lol

Feisty, I been busy working on local issues this morning. Calling and e-mailing State Senators and the Governor.
Good to see ya Lisa!
This thread was up for almost 20 minutes and no one had left a comment (until me) tee hee!
Feisty, I tried to post earlier and got a unresponsive script notice. I am watching Hillary's farewell speech. Very Classy.
@lisa,
Just watched that speech myself. Hillary is most definitely a class act. I for one think overall she did a heck of a job. John Kerry's got a tough act to follow.
Bali Bob, I try to give credit where credit is do.

Well, I'm pretty sure that's how dinosaurs became extinct. You do believe in those don't you or is that just another great big government scam?
Uhhhh, Layton are you saying we have the ability to stabilize the weather on this planet?
Well now, I wonder why they didn't turn those tornados off this week before they struck Adairsville?

Al Gore would not accept the job as Secretary of Energy as he is too busy hunting Manbearpig.
Al Gore would be a good choice for Sec. of Energy. He has done more investigation and has a greater understanding of energy than most people do. Yes, the T people would have exploding heads and that can't be a bad thing.

Scandal-Plagued Steve Capus Out as NBC News President
The rap sheet against Capus isn’t troubling, surprising, or even disturbing -- it is breathtaking:
So, when will Roger Ailes, Sean Hannity, the cast of FOX & Friends, Bill O'Reilly, etc. be fired from FOX News having done all of those "alleged" things and more?
Yes..."breitbart.com"...nice unbiased source.
GOP Comeback = GOP Pipedream
The gop is a lost party.They don't have a leader,no hope of getting into the whitehouse in 2016.
What they do have is,anger ,hate tea baggers,assult weapons crazies,Walmart shoppers,Rednecks,trailer trash,redstates obesity,uneducated Welare types.
