Talk to, that's false. President Obama's speech was in March, 2011; it came after the DREAM Act failed in the 2010 lame-duck session. Marco Rubio didn't propose any immigration plan until the summer of 2012 when it became quite clear that GOPers were losing the Latino vote by a huge margin. It was then that Rubio presented some half-baked version of the DREAM Act that was anything but a dream because there was no path to citizenship; even his own party rejected it. Don't forget, Talk, until Jan 2011, Rubio wasn't even in the US Senate. He won his Senate seat by kissing up to the Tea Party who was and is anything but fans of immigration reform so Rubio wouldn't have dared offer immigration reform as part of his campaign.

To finally get immigration reform done there will have to be many compromises made. It's likely that no one will be completely satisfied with the outcome. But it's high time to suck it up on both sides and get it done.

Rubio wants credit? I personally don't care who gets credit for immigration reform. But the GOP is going to have to stop railroading every single initiative that Obama starts and do some positive things for this country. Can you do that, GOPers?

One more think Talk To, President Obama has proposed these immigration reforms since he began his 2008 campaign so there is no way that he "stole" them from an unknown Florida state Congressman. I know it's getting hard to remember, but this is how Congress IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. The President issued his preference (the DREAM Act), though that step is optional. Some members of Congress got their heads together across party lines and figured out what they could probably agree on. Now committees in each house will put down the specifics in a bill. Assuming both chambers can get something passed they'll get together later in conference committee and hammer out their differences.

Notice the President doesn't get to vote on this? Notice that he doesn't actually write the legislation? Notice how it's up to Congress to actually pass the thing? Sure, he'll sign or veto when done, but until then it's the job of Congress.

Somehow in spite of all this President Obama is simultaneously inneffective and dictatorial, a veritable strongman pushover who gets rolled every time he steamrolls the opposition.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Conservatives manage to blame this whole thing on Barack Obama while they take credit with Hispanics.

That is until Jan 20, 2009, when the GOP planned their obstruction, dug in their heels and refused to participate in governing. Since their "make him a one-term president" plan failed miserably, they now have two choices--behave as adults elected to do the work of the people, compromise and get something done; or not. The "or not" is not a viable option IF the GOP has any hope for 2016.

Rubio may have been crafting a plan but his plan did not allow a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers; it fact, his initial plan had little of value in it regarding real reform and his own party rejected it. He, like the other Dem and GOP senators, had some good ideas. It is great that both sides are finding the good and working together. As in health care and other legislation debated, discussed and tried over many years, there are many ideas from both sides that keep returning to the table. Neil Heslin, the father of a 6-year-old boy who was slain in the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, stoically faced down pro-gun activists last night.

More than 1,000 people attended a hearing before the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Monday to share their views on gun control, USA Today reported. Among them was Heslin, who held a large framed picture of himself and his son Jesse as he urged officials to consider strengthening gun laws in Connecticut.

But as he gave his emotional testimony, pleading with lawmakers to improve mental health options and to ban assault weapons like the one Adam Lanza used to murder his child and 25 other people, his speech was interrupted by dozens of audience members, The Connecticut Post reported.

“I still can't see why any civilian, anybody in this room in fact, needs weapons of that sort. You're not going to use them for hunting, even for home protection," Heslin said.

Pro-gun activists responded by calling out: "Second Amendment!"

Undeterred, Heslin continued. "There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened."

Heslin's son, Jesse McCord Lewis, was described by friends as a happy child, The Post reported. A "little cowboy," Jesse reportedly liked to play with the fake horses at a local Western-themed restaurant. After he was shot and killed by Lanza, a line of police officers on horseback joined the motorcade at the boy's funeral.

"He was a boy that loved life. Lived it to the fullest…He was my son, he was my buddy, he was my best friend." Heslin said.

This whole dog and pony show is an insult to the millions of people who spent the time and money to legally immigrate to the U.S.A.

We see this cave-in every 20 years or so and the results are always the same. It is nothing more than a political power grab for the Hispanic vote. Once more the politicians will sell America's Birthright rather than simply applying the existing laws in a consistent fashion. There has been a legal process in place for many years for people to lawfully immigrate here, but it is so much easier to just sneak in and wait for the next political vote grab.

My wife is a legal immigrant from the Philippines and she would love to have some of her relatives come here too. They all speak English and have college educations. We have one medical doctor, two R.N's, two civil engineers, one electrical engineer, two mechanical engineers, four teachers, a chemist and two IT managers in the family. Of course the Pacific Ocean is a little harder to swim than the Rio Grande so they will have to wait their turn like all the other good, law abiding people who want to come here. Instead we get a horde of poorly educated, minimum wage illegals which will continue to drain resources that are already strained by the poor economy. A truly brilliant solution!

If I were one of the unemployed American Citizens out there looking for work, this would truly make me go ballistic! What ever happened to taking care of your own people first. Then you can look at immigrant candidates that will actually benefit the country rather than use up resources.

The reality is that there is no bipartisan bill. Any bill has to be looked at in the light that Obama will not enforce any enforcement of immigration laws. Reagan reluctantly signed such a bill and the only thing that happened was that people who came here illegally were rewarded for their efforts. Let's face it, Arizona passed a bill that said they will enforce the immigration laws and Obama fought tooth and nail to proclaim "you can't do that!" The sad fact is that until you have a President willing to enforce our laws, they mean nothing. Since Reagan, we've had the Bushes, Clinton and Obama who have told Congress and the citizens of the US to take a flying leap. I don't, for the life of me, understand why anyone thinks that there can be worthwhile immigration reform. Certainly not while Obama is in office. I'm sure they are decent people. There has always been a mechanism in place for legal immigration. No country simply allows people reside in their country illegally. We are in the situation we find ourselves because weak kneed temporary worthless politicians refused to do the job the people sent them to do, that being uphold the laws of our nation. The American people have been demanding for years that this problem be addressed. It is about time they do something about it. Let's hope they are serious.

This is the second time I heard him say that and I didn't hear it on Fox news, I heard him say it on live TV.As for republicans insisting on securing the borders before approving any of the rest of the proposals on immigration reform, they remember that Pres. Reagan took the word of democrats that they would implement border security as soon as he signed the amnesty agreement.
