However, the topic of Tuesday’s trip is immigration and not gun control. While event details are still being sorted out, the White House has confirmed that “the president will be traveling to Nevada on Tuesday to redouble the Administration's efforts to work with Congress to fix the broken immigration system this year.”
This comes after an unannounced meeting at the White House with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Friday morning. Members of the caucus and the White House expressed a “sense of urgency” when it came to tackling the issue of comprehensive immigration reform.
Since his re-election, President Obama has said that he would attempt to tackle the issue in his second term and the topic was given prominence by being included in his inaugural address.
“Our journey is not complete until we find a better way to welcome the striving, hopeful immigrants who still see America as a land of opportunity,” he said Monday.
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), who has been an outspoken supporter of the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform said after the meeting, “We all need to work together -- the president and Congress, Republicans and Democrats -- to get something done right away."
In an interview late last year, House Speaker John Boehner said, “I think a comprehensive approach is long overdue, and I’m confident that the president, myself, others, can find the common ground to take care of this issue once and for all.”
But while there has been acknowledgement and even some optimism on both sides of the aisle that there needs to be some type of reform to the country’s immigration system, it is still unclear how any kind of large-scale reform would move through Congress, what the details would be, and who would spearhead it.
President Obama's push for comprehensive immigration reform comes after his sweeping advantage with Latinos in his re-election. Obama won 71 percent of Latinos, up from 67% in 2008. They made up 10 percent of the electorate, up from 9 percent in 2008, which underperforms their population nationally -- 16 percent, according to the U.S. Census.
In Nevada, those shares are even higher. Obama won 74 percent of Hispanics in Nevada, and made up 19 percent of the electorate (but are 27 percent of the overall population). They were crucial in helping Obama to a 52-46% win in the Silver State, as well as victories in Colorado, New Mexico, and Florida.

My guess the politicians will win this time and the American people—as always—will get the bill for supporting illegal aliens. Very few of us who haven’t been brain-washed over the illegal alien controversy and with a Socialist administration in power, the only winners are the “Freeloaders” deadbeats and spongers, which are bottom feeders that live of the rest of the working population. They pay for nothing, as everything virtually free especially with this Imperial regime. This is going to be a repeat performance of the 1986 path to citizenship that exploded into a fraudulent façade. The so called pay a fine, learn English as two required principles, never happened? Most fines were waived, as the majority of Guest Workers couldn’t afford it, and the so called learning the language was a travesty, as the illegal aliens involved took a couple of classes and because it was run by La Raza, got a pass score. The whole thing was a travesty and the commitment of former President Reagan’s Washington to prosecute employers fizzled. Let’s face it their all a bunch of bare faced liars who cringe at the feet of special interest groups, because they are the ones that really run the country. A few must be excused from these slimy-palmed politicians, such as Senator Sessions of Arkansas.

WHEN THERE ARE OVER 20 MILLION AMERICANS UNEMPLOYED, UNDEREMPLOYED OR JUST GIVEN UP AND JOINING THE RANKS (INCLUDING FOREIGN NATIONALS) SINGNING UP FOR FOOD STAMPS AND OTHER BENEFITS.

The Nuclear Family Priority Act, HR 692 (Gingrey, R-GA), would end chain migration while expediting the reunification of married couples and of parents with their young children. It would eliminate the categories of adult siblings and adult children, providing an annual decrease in immigration of over 110,000 per year. The reduction would be larger over time as there would be fewer new immigrants to sponsor additional relatives (Chain Migration.) Then include this with the waiting BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP BILL. Look it up, as it makes good judgment, as other industrialized nations have also removed it. That only people who is already a U.S. citizen can apply for citizenship for their child. It’s become a travesty of 14th amendment that allowed slaves the right to citizenship and their descendants. This should was not applicable to illegal alien children, because at that time there was no such thing as illegal immigration. The cost in BILLIONS of dollars is to high, to carry on this fallacy?

We must be constantly be on our guard as many laws are past during late nights sessions, so that the public are only aware the day after. Monday, is going to be a very important day as President Obama is heading to Nevada to broadcast the need for a Path to Citizenship or the possibility of blanket Amnesty. But remember that Nevada has today the highest concentrations of illegal aliens, other than California on the West coast. Monday, if you haven’t already seen the writing on the wall, then speak up—call your politicians and tell the aide, you want to declare illegal aliens have no right to citizenship. THEY BROKE OUR LAWS, while honest people came through the correct channels. One or two people will be ignored, but greater numbers will make a difference and could decide on the fate of America? After all the Heritage Foundation already stated that another Path to Citizenship would produce a taxpayer price tag of over 2 TRILLION DOLLARS, you have to wonder what these politicians are smoking. That’s already on Obama’s $4 to 5 TRILLION dollars amassing on the multi TRILLION dollar deficits.
Each year 400,000 babies are smuggled into America to claim citizenship. The price for the child/children (DREAMER CHILDREN) is a cornucopia of free entitlement stuff as a new citizen. Even before arriving here they have been well apprised of the welfare programs and how to scam them. Actual birthing factories have been set up, where pregnant women are departing planes from Asian countries to claim citizenship for their infant. Possessing a U.S birth certificate the child can return in adolescence and claim citizenship rights and then sponsor family members. CHAIN MIGRATION is a very expensive proposition for U.S. taxpayers, as later the immediate family is left without financial resources and then relies on public assistance.
This push is going nowhere. The stumbling blocks are too many and too big. Taxes will be the biggest hurdle. Illegals fall into two catagories based on who they worked for. If they worked in restaurants, lawncare or construction then they didn't pay any taxes. If they worked for an employer that insisted on taxes being taken out then the illegal generally cheated by claiming child tax credits on fictitious children. In either case we arn't going to forgive these crimes. No illegal can pay what they owe the IRS, hundreds of thousands of dollars if they have been here any time. All they can do is lie some more when applying for asylium. This is never going to make it through congress.
Immigration is a easy issue. Follow the laws on the books that obama swore two times now to uphold.

You asked a good question. My thoughts are that government lie so much and are not trustworthy anymore. We used to be a strong nation but we are so divided on so many issues.

I guess this is the last any Hispanic (or any other minority) will be voting for any republican. After this the GOP will be lucky to ever get 2% of the Hispanic vote. No wonder they are already trying to figure out ways to win by gerrymandering America the same way they gerrymander districts.

I am all for the immigrant laws being enforced....you want to be an american, become a get naturalized citizen, learn ENGLISH (reading and speaking), get a job and pay taxes into the system that so many illegal aliens have draw on with out any commitment of denouncing their original citizenship .....I say if you aren't willing to become a citizen legally, then no govt benefits for you! No driver's license, no food stamps, no health care, etc.
The trouble is the illegals that are here now will get a forgiveness and not asked to many questions. Once legal they don't want those jobs.
Tell me if we couldn't enforce present illegals from coming here how are we going to stop the next batch.
Krikit--it's not an issue of willingness among illegal immigrants to become legal ones. It's an issue of them NOT HAVING A ROUTE TO LEGAL STATUS. There is no line to stand in, no path to legal status for the bulk of illegal immigrants. For most of them, the best they can hope for is to enter the lottery for a visa and hope they get one (odds about 1 in 500).
Except Just it still doesn't give someone the right to enter the country illegally just because they can't find a line to stand in, get a VISA etc. We are not required to give permission to anyone and everyone who asks to enter this country.
The basic premise in all this is that these people have broken the most basic of our nation's laws.
I certianly understand the fiscal issue of locating and deporting all of them, it just won't work. If the provisions of this proposed bill are strict enough, I can get behind it but there had better be some serious hoops for these people to jump through to make up for their complete disregard for the rules of the nation to which they claim such loyalty and love.
Lynn--Again, it's not that they "can't find a line to stand in." THE LINE DOES NOT EXIST. Chastizing them for failing to find the line is the equivalent of chastizing them for failing to find bigfoot. There never was an option for them to come here legally. They weren't lazy or impatient or simply unwilling to work the system. They exercised the only option open to them to come here, because our broken immigration system offered no other.
If you aren't cool with immigration and think they should all stay home, then just honestly and openly say so. Don't hide behind the "well, I only like them when they fill out the right paperwork" dodge.
@ Just......believe it or not there are avenues and they are not hard to find.....www.us-immigration.com ....and understand if you were to enter their countries illegally they would not be so kind as to provide you with allll the social services that tax paying, working americans pay into here in america.....you would be required to obtain a visa or become a citizen.....Chatizing them is exactly what needs to be done because if they wanted to enter this country legally they could do so, but because we provide these people with free everything from the onset why would they?
They come into this country illegally ....drive cars without insurance and licenses, refuse to learn the language and get everything they want....healthcare, public housing, public assistance etc....and some of them are criminals from their own country....and then when they are arrested they are "protected" by our bill of rights and they aren't even legalized citizens......new immigration laws need to set the standards for those already here and those coming in.....no visa...no public anything.....no citizenship...no public anything and a time frame to go back to where they came from
Why is that critics of immigration always point to the immigration in countries that people are desperate to leave are a model for the US? Yes, countries like Mexico and China have very punitive immigration laws. But have you ever stopped to think that those draconian immigration laws are part of why those countries suck so badly that people are willing to risk death to leave them?
Mexico's economy sucks so much, and fails to provide jobs for their people in part because Mexico has horribly stupid government policies on so many levels, including immigration. China's one of the most oppressive governments with regards for human rights, and they maintain that control by blocking out everyone who would criticize them.

I like my plan....go to the inner cities and offer free trips to Mexico, load up the bus and drive them down and when they get off when you stop for lunch drive off and leave them. Then offer great opportunities to hard working people down there and bring them back. I think it would slow welfare and food stamps down a bit too, like killing two birds with one stone.

They just said on our local news that the American public is now favoring giving citizenship to all these illegals who criminally entered this country, pay no taxes, do not pay for healthcare, live off government freebies such as housing, food stamps, free cell phones, free this and free that. I'm not buying into this propaganda - that is all this is, PROPAGANDA. Every single one of these people are criminals. I'm all for giving citizenship to those who have done it legally - but giving gifts to criminals is not the righteous way to do things. I guess that goes along with our foreign policy of handing out billions of American tax dollars to countries who oppress their citizens. This country has gone so far away from what I have known it to be - I want to believe that this is a great nation, but I can't anymore. We are just a laughingstock to the rest of the world.

No budget in place for four years now; another "fiscal cliff" looming in sight in what, mid-march???; same with the debt ceiling and Pres Obama goes out on immigration? he spent the first year working on nothing but the ACA so is his first year in his second term going to be the same thing..concentrate on one item to the near exclusion of anything else that is more important? Why go out on the road? We already know the reps don't do anything their constituents actually want so why talk to the constituents..they can't change a representative's mind.
