What part of "illegal" is so hard to understand. It's kinda like,, against the law,, or in violation of the law. In most cases a violation of law is criminal, you can't do that, it is against the law.

Having said that, we already have a process to become a citizen of the US. Sneaking across a border is not a legal way to enter the country, it is against the law. Send them back where they came from, I don't care what color they are or what fence they snunk under, send them back.

Liberals love bringing in Mexican immigrants because it helps dilute the native population by bringing in a fresh supply of poor voters sympathetic to Marxist views that love the allure of a free lunch.

The only problem with this proposal is that the US has become a welfare state without any real oversight on who gets the freebies. Not only were immigration laws changed but the big elephant is the Great Society program. Hard-working people south of the Rio Grande have always been a part of the farm and ranch labor force, but now Uncle Sam is the distributor of a subsidy for the primitive lifestyle where you have 100% free time, paid for by increasing debt and those who still want to work for their living.

Look at what is happening in Europe now that it has open borders and people from the Middle East and Africa have flooded in. The old welfare states are broke in part because of the flood of people who seek free time instead of jobs. The marxist ideal of equal distribution of wealth is destroying the Western democracies. Yet people focus on a symptom of freebies, those who come for welfare instead of jobs.

Immigration Reform should be about providing the Federal Government the resources needed to enforce our immigration laws. All I every read about is giving the illegal aliens, either Amnesty or some pathway to citizenship that does not involve them leaving the US and waiting their turn in line just like every other legal immigrant? Why is is ok to CHEAT? Why should US taxpayers have to pay hundreds of billions of dollars to educate the children of illegal aliens in our public schools. We need to make it impossible for an illegal alien to get a job or keep a job in the US.

The new method is simply to allow anybody who chooses to enter the country illegally live here with immunity, receive food stamps, health care and any and all other services paid for by working taxpayers. The only problem with our immigration system is a willful failure to carry out the law by the administration. Welcome and quickly process those coming here legally. Those sneaking in illegally, catch them and deport them. Deputize every law enforcement officer in the US to search out, apprehend, and turn over to ICE every illegal alien in this country. Require ICE to promptly expel them from the country. Post the military along the border to repel invaders. No new laws required. Just DO YOUR JOB and execute existing law.

So lets talk amnesty. It's been done before (Reagan/Simpson) . And It was done by a Republican administration obviously. They promised employer controls to enforce it. Those controls had the consistency of swiss cheese. So many ways to go around them , that they were worthless. No other administration, either party, as they were preaching about American jobs , decided to enforce the rules. Too many Tysons needing cheap labor. Too many contractors wanting the semi slave labor factor to cut costs& regulations. Too many people making serious money on their labor. And the public , paying for their health care , whatever crime incurred, and their kids education. Without paying into Social Security & Medicare, or their employers paying into unemployment.

So , If a new amnesty happens. Ok , then the formerly illegal employees will have Social security deducted, and medicare, and unemployment insurance.

But what was the point of the employer hiring them as illegal in the first place?? Cheap labor, no regulation.

So what stops a illegal employer from firing his now legals , and hiring fresh new illegals??

Without a control on employers, any amnesty is absolutely worthless. Just history repeating itself.

The path to legal immigration is a long and arduous process which could take 2+ years in order to receive a green card.

The mood of the agent can directly affect the petitioners chances and they can be required to resubmit documents several times.

Afterwards, the restrictions are a bit un-American.

To be allowed to apply for citizenship, the waiting period is a minimum of 3 years.

I seriously doubt most posters here could pass the written test given.

Immigration reform is definitely needed, but what we need first is a real effort to enforce the immigration laws already on the books. Too many undocumented illegals come here with no fear of being deported. All countries have laws that govern immigration, but we've chosen over the years to basically ignore them. Now, we have 11 million illegals living here, many of whom are benefitting from our entitlement system that WE legal Americans pay for.

There is no sense to support Obama's 'entitlement reform' unless we have a national consensus on enforcement of our borders, or else we'll be back arguing about this 5 years from now. There must be border security to make the 'reforms' worthwhile, or all it will do is attract more illegals.

Obama still needs to do something about the economy, but since he doesn't know what to do (or else he would have done it already) he's focusing on guns and immigration, issues he thinks he can get easy wins on.

First thing that should happen before any immigration reform is to enforce the current immigration laws. Obamas refusal to enforce immigration laws and 2 year amnesty was pure politics to aid his reelection. Obama in his oath for office promised to uphold the laws of the US that proved to be just another of his line of BS and lies. How can anyone expect to get reasonable and just immigration reform with Obama and the Democrats involved based on past performance. With the knowledge most illegals will register and vote as Democrats obviously they will make the path for citizenship as easy as possible.

Why is immigration reform so pointed toward the illegals here now? The focus should be on the people who have entered the country legally or are waiting to come. In my mind no person should be allowed citizenship who has used someones SS number, used a false ID (green card), never has applied for a green card, worked for pay under the table, received welfare of any type, or collected any government assistance.

The next step after immigration reform should be to take strong and consistent efforts to find and deport all the people who do not qualify. New and tougher "sponsorship rules" should be included in the reform with the same restriction requirements as those who are granted citizenship. Obviously once an illegal becomes a citizen the next step is to sponsor their family. Any person who sponsors another or the sponsored person should not be allowed welfare or any government assistance of any kind by law. No one should be allowed here who will be a financial burden. There are plenty of American citizens who need the help with the present economy.

Personally, I would rather see all illegals deported not given amnesty. Last time around did little to reduce the numbers from Mexico but gave others the incentive to come here knowing in the future amnesty would happen again. Fifteen or 20 years from now we will face the same illegal situation.

Who will work in the fields story is BS for justification of illegals. Fact is the farmers who hire illegals want to maintain their high profits with low wages. I can assure you there are many people who apply for visas from other countries other than Mexico who would happily come here and work those jobs.

agree that Immigration has to be addressed but we need SMART immigration laws.
When my ancestors came here they needed a sponsor, job and had to learn the
language. All of the illegals should have to start the legal process not just
give them visa's. We would just be rewarding bad behavior and would encourage
even more illegals to come to this country. I also think that they should not
be allowed to collect welfare, section 8, free healthcare. There should be a
mandatory wait time until they can hold out their hand. We have American
Citizens, war veterans living on the street while we have illegals putting
their hands out and getting everything they want. Remember Obama's Auntie
Zunita (?sp) her response was "it is your responsibility to take care of
me". Well.... wrong Auntie! Auntie was an illegal immigrant who requested
asylum and was denied. Instead of leaving the country like she was supposed to
she went to Boston, got into elderly housing (on the states money). Obama was
elected, Auntie was found and applied for asylum again and OMG was granted it.
I wonder what Obamas Uncle; another illegal living west of Boston is going to
do? I'm not a racist, I believe that America is the melting pot and I welcome

3 ways Obama can step up is utilization of more spy drones along our southern boarders. Next is in every emergency room or free clinic in the U.S. The other is every landscape crew. There are millions of them in housekeeping, washing dishes or cooking in restaurants, even employed by the city picking up trash. If you think of a job Americans won't do, you'll find an illegal doing it. While we are not against legal aliens working these jobs we are against those that are illegal. Bottom line is because they don't pay taxes of any kind. Many states have strict laws against hiring illegal aliens and if your caught by immigration employing one, the fines are hefty for each offense. Your no different than the illegal alien in breaking the law. There have been many homeowners whom have been caught just in hiring an illegal to mow their lawn. Think about it because when your caught hiring them, you will pay a hefty fine.

Last I remember "Immigrants" didn't sneak their way into the United States and demand that they get free citizenship I believe that is called Illegal immigration and is indeed a crime. If Mexico has tough immigration laws. So should the U.S.. If you can't do it right. Don't do it at all or pay for your consequences. Just like if I tried to break into a house. I pay for the consequences. I don't get a shake on the hand by the police and get to walk out the door.

Also if Obama is going to start cracking down he better start with public schools because schools love to hide them. Especially in Southern California.

(I believe the right to Free Education paid by tax payers was for the American People. Not some leech that's undocumented and comes to America from some foreign country.)
