Now, it may seem shocking to many right-wingers here and all over the nation, but this self-described social democrat (not Democrat) and supporter of the Democratic Party will feel a great deal of sadness if (for all is not lost) the GOP actually ends up in the dustbin of history. Why?? It's quite simple: in every other democratic nation there are at least 3 parties that dominate the government periodically; in America, we only have two. But those two parties have moderated (although the GOP has been backsliding since the 1980s) over their long lives to fit the American populace, and they represent two opposing viewpoints that need to be shown. In those other democracies (many of which are far to the left of our society), the loss of one party won't upset the political balance, as they have others to come up and take their place; in America, the loss of even just one major party will send the entire political system into chaos. Now, it may sound good for us lefty liberals in the short term to be rid of the far right and move the nation back to the post-New Deal political order, but it will destroy us and the nation in the long-term. For without an able competitor to keep us on our edge, the Democratic Party (the only major party in the country) will founder and become bloated and corrupt. Eventually, the people will lead a national protest resembling that of the Tea Party, which will send our country back to the hopeless pit of where we are now, stuck between moving forward or backward in a rapidly changing world. Essentially, our two parties rely on each other for political strength; if one dies, so does the other. We need a Republican Party to keep the Democrats on our edge, but we need one that is responsible and pragmatic. I want a Republican Party that will often propose tax hikes to reduce the deficit instead of just spending cuts; a party that will negotiate willingly to fix immigration and education, and will avoid holding the government and the people hostage for the whims of the few. I want a Republican Party that, like the Democrats, represent ALL of America, not just the conservative or the wealthy. And finally, I want a Republican Party that is reasonable and pragmatic; one that resembles the old Ike-Reagan party where compromise was a virtue instead of a vice and where people got along even if they disagreed with one another. If the Republicans can do this, we progressive liberals should be willing to compromise with them to fix entitlements (chaining CPI isn't that bad, my brothers in the Progressive Caucus), for we will know that the GOP won't be willing to expand on eventually privatizing and dismantling the social safety net. The people who are really running the show need to give you the illusion that your little vote actually has some kind of political capital at the table of the elite. Admittedly, it assumes that Obama doesn't completely ignore the laws, which is a pretty big assumption, then all the GOP has to do is decide on what they want for a real budget and pass it. (admittedly, the down side to this is that, by all accounts, they are still way to liberal for the country and ignorant of the real economic crisis the country is in). Then when Harry refuses to bring it up in the Senate, you head home. And while you're at home you educate the dickens out of the people. You hire people who understand economics and you have town meetings and flood the airways about the realities of life and the destruction that the current administration and Congress is doing by reckless spending and running up deficits. If need be, you take a year to explain. What happens in the meantime. Obviously, the first thing is that you keep Congress technically open so Obama doesn't do what he's done in the past and declare that he has the power to act even though he doesn't. What happens to the government without an increase in the debt limit? They can spend no more than they bring in. Yes, Obama and the dems and the media will throw their little tissy fits, but so what. The government is currently bringing in about $2.4 trillion a year while it is spending about $4 trillion a year. By not raising the debt limit the GOP would have just reduced the spending down to $2.4 trillion a year, and, viola, a balanced budget. Sure, it may wreak havoc and there will be a lot of blaming the GOP, but that's been going on for the last 12 years, even though the Dems have been getting everything they've wanted, and then some. You stand firm and tell the dems that if they want to get serious then they should present their plan of how they intend to cut government spending, like they've campaigned on, but just never seem to get around to it.

Anything short of this will be a guaranteed disaster for the country. And, yes, this strategy is guaranteed to work. From what we've been watching, it's the only strategy that will work. For 4 years we've had nothing but Obama saying that whatever the repubs have proposed is "unacceptable" to him and he won't sign off on it. He's never forced to say what he will do and always passes the buck. Well, you'd think that after 4 years of the GOP negotiating with themselves that they'd smarten up.

I think that maybe the Republican Party's problem is that over the last 30 or so years they have basically stolen the American Dream from the majority of Americans through their top-heavy, trickle-down, globalist, crony corporate welfare economics, and increasingly there are less and less Americans that haven't been negatively affected by those policies. Clearly the Republican Party is the party of exclusion and it has succeeded in excluding too many Americans to continue to win elections fairly. Moreover, their penchant for attempting to force their false alleged Christian-based morals onto an ever-increasing number of non-religious Americans is also daily decreasing their level of support too. It isn't just minority Americans that have been excluded or marginalized by the Republicans, it is also many too many blue-collar Americans of all ethnic backgrounds, and even some white-collar Americans too.

The Democrats agenda is one of fairness for all, while the Republican goal is obviously a return to a White-centric robber-baron era where 80-90% of all Americans live two paychecks away from disaster, if they even have a job, so frightened of becoming a member of our ever-growing underclass that they are too afraid to organize in their own self-interest, too afraid of getting fired to even ask for a raise. Obviously the Republicans would rather that America was an oligarchy if not a monarchy rather than a democracy, as their entire goal is to make a few close friends filthy rich while at the same time it would seem that they are willing to destroy large areas of America in order to get what they so crave.

What's worse for America, a heroin addict who might shoplift or steal your purse in order to feed their addiction, or a Republican wealth-addict robber-baron willing to destroy the economy and emotional health of an entire American city in order to see a 20% increase in the value of their stock portfolio? Let's not forget the help from the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) passed by Carter. This act was amended several times since then by both republican and democrat presidents. Then a group called ACORN (The one our current president did work for) began using pressure to help people that probably wouldn't have been able to get loans to begin with so they could buy houses. That was fine as long as the interest rates stayed low. But, as we know that didn't happen. Then those loans began to default to the ARM adjusting up. There is more to it, but that's the quick and dirty. Perhaps you should READ more than what you find in the Drive-By-Media and learn to THINK for youself. There have been mentions above about how we "liberals" must want a one-party system if we want the 'annihilation' of the Republican party. But I did see one comment that called it correctly.

The Democratic Party does not truly want the destruction of the Republican Party. We would like to see a resurgence of a true Republican Party. One of fiscal conservatism and smaller government. We want a Republican Party without the hatred and bigotry we've seen increasing in the past decade. We want a Republican Party that will look out for the country, not just their right-wing extremists. The hatred you'll claim from us? The overwhelming majority is just a direct response to yours.

Want an example? Why is it that when President Obama reviews options and suggestions on an issue, and then he finds one he likes and approves of that happened to be proposed by a Republican, when he announces that he likes it and wants to help champion it, every single Republican suddenly will not support it, including the one that proposed it in the first place? A pure form of bipartisanship, suddenly rejected by the current party of no.

We want to see a Republican Party that will stand up for the Country and make a real effort to enter into bipartisanship to move this country forward. We can't move forward with one opinion. Since we have three branches of government, does this seem possible? (If not, maybe look into it elsewhere.) If this seems so outlandish, should I trust a news channel that argued to the Supreme Court that the First Amendment on Free Speech guaranteed that channel's right to Lie? Maybe it's time to change the channel away from the extremists.

Here is some thing to ponder and put into your think tank. When the GOP had control of the House and Senate in the mid-1990's the country prospered, but you liberal blame throwers gave the credit to your inept adulterer Prez Clinton. And the only thing Clinton was capabable of doing was be a huge failure as a foreign policy maker.

Then in the early 2000's to 2006 the GOP had control of the Senate and House, and the country experienced the greatest economic boom in centuries, everyone had a job and the war against terrorism was well funded.

Then in 2006 the Senate was split and the House was controlled by Demo's and the Nancy Pelosi era began, and in 2008 the Demo's took control of the House, Senate and Presidency. The American people began to suffer one of the worst economic down turns since the GREAT depression, and the deficit grew to unprecedented highs, and unemployment grew to enourmous levels, and foreign policy funding began to burden the American people. Thus, the blame throwing propaganda campaign began.

Then in 2010 the GOP took back control of the House and forced the current President to balance the budget, and we slowly began to crawl back economically, and BO did not hesitate to take credit during his campaign. LOL.. Eventhough, unemployment achieved a snails pace decrease in 2011, and increased in the middle of 2012, and still no discernable true economic recovery.

And here we go, the Senate and Presidency controlled by Demo's, and the GOP controlled House fighting to balance the budget, and economic growth crippling tax increases. And four years later they are still blaming Bush, eventhough the Demo's had control of the Senate, House, and Presidency for the bulk of the past 6 years that we have suffered economically, morally, and Big Fed intrusive regulatory.

Look's like another 4 years of COPING instead of HOPING... I think real people are smart, and can smell the stinky stuff Obama and his bungling blame throwing liberal crew are brewing. Liberal columnist Kirsten Powers noted that "Liberals, because they are used to controlling all the media, pretty much, academia, that for them, when they hear things that don't jibe with what they want to hear, it's very disconcerting and unsettling to them." Powers explained that after getting out of her own "Democratic bubble," she noticed that conservatives tend to be more open to hearing opposing viewpoints than liberals."

Essentially, revenues would have been higher.
