An emboldened Obama… The liberal Reagan?... But can Obama get a third term (George H.W. Bush’s) like Reagan did?... Obama’s striking comments (and shift) on gay marriage… His striking comments on climate change… The potential for overreach?... Obama attends national prayer service at 10:30 am ET… NBC/WSJ poll: Majority, for first time, want abortion legal… House to vote tomorrow on raising the debt ceiling… And Israel’s clear-right shift?
*** An emboldened Obama: Since becoming a national political figure eight years ago, Barack Obama has often cast himself as someone trying to transcend petty and dogmatic politics. “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America,” he said at the 2004 Democratic convention. “There is the United States of America.” And at his first inauguration four years ago, President Obama said, “On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.” But chastened by the last four years and emboldened by his decisive re-election in November, Obama yesterday discarded that image of post-partisanship and instead called for action -- which was unmistakably on the liberal side. “Progress does not compel us to settle centuries-long debates about the role of government for all time, but it does require us to act in our time,” he said in his second inaugural address. More than anything else, it was an unabashed defense of liberalism/progressivism.

*** The liberal Reagan? Indeed, back in 2008, Obama said he viewed a successful presidency as one that changed the trajectory of American politics. "Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not, and a way that Bill Clinton did not,” he said. And another way to interpret Obama’s inaugural address was as a declaration that politics has been transformed -- on the role of government, on gay rights, and on war. As a result, commentators across the ideological spectrum (Andrew Sullivan, Ross Douthat, Matthew Continetti) compared Obama’s speech yesterday, and his presidency, to a liberal Reagan. But remember this about Reagan: The reason he has able to change the trajectory of American politics is that he essentially received a third term (George H.W. Bush’s), which not only resulted in more Supreme Court nominees and government appointments, but which also broke the opposition party. In other words, it made the opposition rethink its entire ideology. After all, those three GOP terms later resulted in Bill Clinton’s centrist presidency that cemented conservative politics (welfare reform, the Defense of Marriage Act, the era of big government is over). Similarly, it was the Eisenhower and Nixon White Houses that cemented the New Deal and Great Society. So can Obama get a third or fourth term? That’s what 2016 will be about. If Democrats do get that third term, the GOP will be forced to rethink its ideology.
Slideshow: 57th Presidential Inauguration
*** Obama’s striking comments (and shift) on gay rights: Maybe the most striking (and memorable) lines of Obama’s inaugural speech were his remarks on gay rights. “‘All of us are created equal’ is the star that guides us still -- just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall,” he said. He later added, “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.” It’s important to remember that Obama was someone who opposed gay marriage in presidential run in ’08, and who later said he was evolving on the subject. Obama’s shift is a reflection of how quickly the politics of gay marriage have changed in this country. (The train was leaving the station, and Obama jumped on board.) And so is the fact that there has been little to no backlash to those remarks -- at least so far.
*** And his striking comments on climate change: What also struck us about yesterday’s speech was his call to action on climate change. “We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.” The line was striking because climate change isn’t viewed as a top-shelf priority for Obama’s second term (compared with gun control, immigration, and the fiscal situation). Yes, Obama did mention the topic at his 2012 Democratic convention address. (“Climate change is not a hoax,” he said. “More droughts and floods and wildfires are not a joke.”) But he didn’t say those two words of “climate change” during his 2012 victory speech. And his administration abandoned the cap-and-trade legislation on energy once it was clear it couldn’t pass the Democratic-controlled Senate. Question: Does this mean we should expect a more serious policy proposal on climate change in Obama’s State of the Union next month?
*** The potential for overreach? Given this emboldened Obama and given these calls for action on gay rights and climate change, the Washington Post’s Dan Balz writes that there’s a potential risk for Obama: overreach. “Obama risks overreaching or over-interpreting his mandate, which can be an affliction of newly reelected presidents. His victory in November was decisive but not overwhelming. Self-confidence can slip over the line to arrogance or hubris. Second terms often disappoint. So there are dangers ahead for the president.” Also, as ambitious as Obama’s vision was yesterday, little else is going to happen until the fiscal/budget impasse is broken.
*** Obama’s day: Today, the inaugural ceremonies conclude with Obama’s participating at a national prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral at 10:30 am ET.
*** NBC/WSJ poll: Majority, for first time, want abortion legal: Also today is the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. And pegged to that decision, a new NBC/WSJ poll finds that a majority of American – for the first time -- believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. What’s more, seven in 10 respondents oppose Roe v. Wade being overturned, which is the highest percentage on this question since 1989. “These are profound changes,” says Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted this survey with Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart and his colleagues. McInturff adds that the abortion-related events and rhetoric over the past year – which included controversial remarks on abortion and rape by two Republican Senate candidates, as well as a highly charged debate over contraception – helped shaped these changing poll numbers. “The dialogue we have had in the last year has contributed … to inform and shift attitudes.”
*** House to vote tomorrow on raising the debt ceiling: Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on raising the debt ceiling, NBC’s Shawna Thomas confirmed. Per the AP, “House leaders on Monday unveiled legislation to permit the government to continue borrowing money through May 18 in order to stave off a first-ever default on U.S. obligations. It is slated for a vote on Wednesday. The measure marks a change in strategy for House Republicans, who have backed off demands that any extension of the government's borrowing authority be accompanied by stiff spending cuts.” This vote is a retreat by House Republicans, but they’re making the most of their retreat with this infographic.
*** Israel’s clear-right shift? Lastly, while we’re discussing America’s possible shift from a center-right nation to MAYBE a center-left one, Israel’s elections today could cement that country’s shift from the center-right to the clear-right. The New York Times: “Polls in recent weeks have consistently predicted a victory for Mr. Netanyahu’s ticket, a combination of his conservative Likud Party and the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteinu. But the polls have also shown the joint ticket declining in strength, from the 42 seats it holds in the current Parliament to perhaps 32 or 35, and losing support to the Jewish Home, a party further to the right that has been revitalized and energized under the leadership of Naftali Bennett, a charismatic first-time candidate.”

So, last week we were told repeatedly that this inauguration would be vastly different form the first one four years ago. As someone who can now proudly say she was there in person for both, I would have to admit I totally agree.
See, last time the day was all about Hope. Excitement. Tangible electricity. Being a part of history. Being a part of one of an unimaginably huge sea of people. People of every age, race, and religious beliefs from every state in the union. A sense of satisfaction and validation that the goal we'd worked so long and hard for was finally at hand. Relief at having persevered and overcoming all the odds. A deep sense of gratitude that we'd been blessed with a leader who we admired with every fibre of our being - a man wise enough to recognize and admit his imperfections, but a man who would never stop trying to do things because they were right instead of politically expedient. A sense of unity. Of purpose. Of knowing WE had done the right thing and would have four years to keep on trying. An overwhelming sense of heartfelt patriotism and giddy optimism. It was truly a new day dawning in America.

Well, okay - and also the fact that it was maybe 20 degrees warmer, so we didn't need that extra pair of socks! And this time I had a cell phone, so I could share the electricity in real time with a few of my First Read friends who were there in spirit no matter what the actual distance on the map said. This time Justice Roberts actually got the words right when administering the oath. And this time we didn't get to bid our fond (okay, not so fond!) farewells to George and Laura Bush ( both a class act on what must have been a bittersweet day) and to Dick Cheney, who I still recall being wheeled out of the White House in 2009 and looking every bit the very small, very mean little man he always seemed to be.
So in summary......no extra socks and no Dick Cheney. Which I guess makes this one WAY different from the first time. Way different.....and way better.
So is there any way we can do it all again in 2017?????
Stupendous inaugural events and a great vision from the President for our country.
The President "called on the American people to join him in creating a new nation grounded in the old ideas of equality and opportunity". (Fahrenthold)
"...drawing direct links between the origins of the republic and some of the most vexing political issues of the day."
A vision of an ethical and humane America (as opposed to selfish and mean).
Bravo President Obama! Bravo America!
Albany Joe:
It's no secret I don't even try to sugar coat the way I feel some times like many of my fellow lefties. It gives me great pleasure to know that you will suffer, squirm, bitch, piss, and moan for another four years. It's even better knowing you won't accomplish spit.
______________________________________
David Wanker: Far from your lame prediction, I’m looking forward to four years of entertainment and laughs as the lefty liberal agenda of King Barry’s first term comes back to bite them on the ass like a piranha swarm.
Two of my favorites:
Later this year the American people will find out what joke the term “Affordable” is in Barry’s ClunkerCare ACA. According to the Health Reform Subsidy Calculator sponsored by the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation, a very average middle class family of four with both parents working, earning $90,000 a year, will have to cough up over $700 a month for the unsubsidized portion of their ClunkerCare premiums. And then they will be on the hook for up to $8,333 in out of pocket costs for deductibles and copayments. “Affordable” my ass.
According to a WSJ article late last year, there are about two dozen lawsuits working their way through the federal court system challenging the validity of actions taken by Barry’s “recess” appointments to the NLRB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Even though the Constitution clearly authorizes the Senate to “determine the Rules of its Proceedings” in Article 1 Section 5, King Barry unilaterally declared the Senate to be in “recess” and then made these clearly unconstitutional appointments. And the most Hillaryous thing is the pro forma sessions the Senate was using to stop Presidential recess appointments was invented by the Senate Dems during GWB’s second term. With so many lawsuits there is an almost 100% guarantee that there will be disagreements between the federal Circuit Courts of Appeal which means the Supreme Court will decide the issue. And unlike the weasel room John Roberts gave to ClunkerCare, this is a very clear separation of powers case and it’s hard to see any way the SC, even the liberal justices, could decide the co-equal Executive branch can legitimately exercise such power over the Legislative branch.
I’m also sure there will be many, many other opportunities to be entertained by lefty liberals and plenty of laughs for the next four years.
Life is good.
Enjoy.
(or, if you are a lefty liberal, at least try to be less miserable.)
I thought the inauguration yesterday was even more special then the one in 2009!
We witnessed a more relaxed first family, watching the Sasha & Malia taking pictures of their parents and their interaction beautifully represented what a gorgeous first family they are!
Seeing the President in his white tie and Michelle in the drop dead stunning red gowning while dancing to "Let's Stay Together" reminded us of the fact the President secret talent of being a decent crooner himself.
I have to admit, when they got out of the car to walk to parade route I found myself holding my breath! Although the crowds ability to get up close and personal will be memories they will hold forever!
Today we start the journey of 4 more years with the man leading us who believes in change from the bottom up NOT the top down!
Triumph of the Demonizer
The parades and balls are over, the adoring crowds have gone home, and the president's rather pedestrian inaugural address is now part of history. Good, now we can get back to reality.
In his quest to be reelected, Obama ran a gutter campaign devoted almost entirely to assassinating the character of his opponent. There was little in the way of grandiloquence, even less in the way of a policy agenda that would move this country out of the economic muck over which this president has presided. Instead this guy ran on nastiness and demonization. Then yesterday in his speech he saw fit to scold the opposition for treating name calling as reasoned debate – the audacity of this man just takes your breath away! Now this joker has to govern and work with another divided Congress. Good luck with that, Mr. President.
Against this backdrop, last week Republicans decided against playing the debt ceiling card and instead want to link a short term increase in the ceiling to the relatively benign and thoroughly reasonable condition that the Senate passes a budget. In terms of substance I would much prefer a harder line approach on this issue, but politically this is a clever maneuver that puts the Dems in a bit of a box. If Harry Reid can't get his pals to do a simple little thing like pass a budget, then the public opinion pendulum of intransigence swings from the Republicans to the Democrats. On the other hand, if Harry gets his pals to actually go on record as supporting uncontrolled spending as far as the eye can see, then the whole world will see their true intentions.
Chuck Schumer is already taking the bait by professing the Senate will indeed pass a budget, a budget that will address our spending problem by including a boatload of tax increases. Good grief, Chuckie must be smoking some really bad dope. Because the only way to get enough tax revenue to take a meaningful bite out of our elevated spending levels is to stick it to the middle class bigtime. Sure, he and his Democratic partners will rant about taxing the rich even more, but it shouldn't be hard for even messaging challenged Republicans to point out the math just doesn't work since there aren't enough rich folks to foot the bill. So if Schumer thinks that approach is a political winner, then he's even more delusional than our post partisan Savior-in-Chief.
Speaking of our Savior, this maneuver might actually force him to lead instead of reverting to bashing Republicans at every opportunity. The Republican House has passed the Ryan budget several times, budgets which Obama has trashed as cruel and heartless – all the while ignoring the inconvenient fact that the Democratic Senate has broken the law repeatedly by not passing its own budget. But now if Chuckie gets his way, the prez may be forced to own up to the reality that his big government vision can only be financed with massive tax increases on a middle class that he has vowed to protect from same. Good grief again, some chickens may be coming home to roost.
Obama is one of the most effective dissemblers to come down the pike in a long time, and Republicans are taking a chance that their revised posture on the debt ceiling will give this guy just enough rope to hang himself. Then as he twists slowly in the wind, they will put the brass knuckles back on to fight the sequestration and continuing resolution battles looming in March – battles that will be shaped by the unavoidable reality that Democrats want to tax the hell out of all of us.
So congratulations on your second inauguration, Mr. President. Enjoy the ride while you still can.
The crowds for both GW Bush inaugurations were at least 400,000. President Obama had a million today[yesterday] for his re-inauguration.
1 Million People Attended Inauguration
An official for today's inaugural ceremonies says 1 million people attended President Obama's second inaugural, according to a pool report filed Monday afternoon. For comparison, 1.8 million attended Obama's first inauguration in 2009, 400,000 attended President George W. Bush's second inauguration in 2005, and 300,000 attended Bush's first inauguration in 2001.
http://news.yahoo.com/1-million-people-attended-inauguration-222032167.html
Paul Ryan got booed. Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asian, Native Americans, GAYS young, & old screaming people were there. Is that Not America? There was even a gay float. You never see that with the GOP.
Wonderful inauguration day speech. Rekindles your pride in your country. Makes you realize that if we'll just pull together we can get a lot done.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, in President Obama's speech was divisive. "Together" is not a code word for "let's fight". "Unity" is not a code word for "dividing". When the President makes repeated appeals to all of us, when he says WE must act, WE must work, he is not calling for class warfare.
Anyone who can twist the President's message to mean anything but a call for unity is telling us in no uncertain terms, they want failure.
These people ignore facts, they are unable to use logic, they are dependent on dogma, and when you get right down to it, you realize their stance(s) is rooted in abject stupidity. We do not have time to waste on people who want to exacerbate our problems.
We face ruinous debt, accelerating climate change, a military that is bankrupting the country, social programs that MUST be overhauled, an education system that continues to decline, and much more. WE have problems. WE must solve them.
What was astounding for me as I listened to President Obama yesterday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, was the fact that what he said - wasn't said on the campaign trail - it was said in his Inaugural Address. His Inaugural Address.
As a man the nation has gotten to know over the years, a man we trusted, respected and liked enough to re-elect, he in turn took one of the biggest moments any president has, and in an eloquent stirring speech that will long be remembered, President Barack Hussein Obama told us exactly who he was and where he wanted the nation to go.
Yesterday we saw and heard a 21st Century president with a 21st Century vision for The United States of America. It was breathtaking.
As Steve Benen wrote yesterday: If Obama's speech today is indicative of how and where he intends to lead the nation over the next four years, there's reason for optimism. The president could have pursued a more modest, narrow course, but he instead chose an ambitious defense of progressive ideals.
I'm not sure but I think it was Rep. Cummings who said something along the lines of - President Obama won't be looking for common ground any longer. He will instead be looking for common aspirations.
Michael Steele - He is not someone I have particularly liked in the past, but I have been listening to him a lot of late, and even though I know he isn't a liberal/progressive, he has nevertheless in recent weeks, become a thoughtful interesting guest. The GOP is in the midst of redefining itself, and Mr. Steele seems to me to be sincere in his desire to bring reason to the debate.
Just a beautiful day for America yesterday, capped off last night by Lawrence O'Donnell ending his program with James Taylor singing while showing snapshots from the day's events.
Extraordinary day for America.
President Obama looked relaxed and confident and Michelle was simply stunning, the girls, my how they have grown from four years ago. We as Americans are proud to have this first family. The neigh Sayers and party of no be damned, Forward not backward was chosen by the people of this country. Obama was chosen to lead us for the next four years, and if he is half as successful as the last four America will be left in fine shape for Biden/Clinton to carry on.
JoAnne,
I couldn't take my eyes off the screen when they were panning the crowds.
THAT is what America looks like... Glad you had a good time!
I see the haters are still hooked on gulping down their "tears of impotent rage" for a second day... lol
Pace yourself boyz, it's agonna be a long 4 years for ya'll!

Joe, that is what you folks on the right have been doing for the last four years and you folks will continue. However, the President won re-election with 53% and we all we all will see him serve the Nation for the next four years, in trying to do whats best for all.
Fairfax Bill rides again - the wrong way. But what's new? This time he writes:
EEngineer has repeatedly put the lie to that nonsense. Yes, we could balance the budget by raising taxes on the very wealthy. Yes, they have enough income to balance the budget. EEngineer has posted this repeatedly, with appropriate documentation and citation. But what's the point of offering points and authorities, when the right-wing - the ones who refuse to look at facts - well, refuse to look at facts?
From my view in the cheap seats...I'd say the Republicans took a wrong turn in 2009, when they decided to oppose the new President on every issue. They took a wrong turn and they just keep going. Republicans look to me as though they'd risk our recovery in order to hurt Obama - breaking the first rule of leadership - always keep the "loyal" in loyal opposition. I don't care if they don't like the President - but when they endanger our national credit rating, the recovery, and safety net for the middle class - they have lost the privilege of governing.
I also think the Republicans have failed to address mistakes made turning the Bush administration. The further we get from those years, the more I am struck by the bad decisions that were made. I don't think the Republicans have ever done an "after action report" on the Bush years, or learned any lessons from that time.
Heck Bev it's easy to show up when you don't have a job. What's your point?
FR: But can Obama get a third term (George H.W. Bush's) like Reagan did?..
Of course!!!
President gave a call to action. The GOP got lost.
Good grief the air is thick on FR this morning. This thread is barely out of the gates and it instantly blows up with the same ole same ole. There was an Inauguration yesterday? Oops I missed it. The real folks of the world do not have all day to sit in front of the tv to watch it. Instead they do have to tend to everyday life. Yet again, nowhere are the issues being tackled. I had to laugh at the three the Vine listed as Obama's targets yesterday... debt, guns, immigration and now this is the list for today?! WTF!

Heck Bev it's easy to show up when you don't have a job. What's your point?

In case you have a reading comprehension problem, tsk, tsk, my point is that's more than double the amount of people who showed for Georgie Boy's two inaugurations . Go back and re-read.
Somehow, I get the idea even after you re-read; still you won't get it. As you it's been said on numerous occasions right wingers are DUMB!!!
JoAnne, so glad for you that you witnessed one of the greatest moments in our history. The images coming across on tv were just gorgeous. Smiles and joy could be seen on every single face.
A beautiful beautiful inauguration.
The media downplayed the election for weeks before election day, it downplayed the inauguration. I heard they had to close the National Mall yesterday at one point because of the crowds. I don't recall that happening in 2009.
Just spectacular images of you all.
*** The liberal Reagan?
==========
How about he just be 'Obama'? I understand history and the comparison game etc..but how about he just be himself and that is what make him special and different (in a positive way) to so many.
What a great inauguation. And the Presidents speech. Part one of two parts. Yesterdays speech, Part One, what he plans to accomplish in the next 4 years. Part Two, given at the State Of The Union Address. how he plans to accomplish his goals. So looking forward to these next 4 years. I expect great things from President Obama this 2nd term
Oh, and guess who's hiding out in my town? You guessed it, ROMNEY, in his beachfront mansion. Remember him? I know, doesn't take long for his memory to fade. Good riddence.

Heck ozzieyou, I note you've shown up here. No job?
My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment and we will seize it - so long as we seize it together.
P.S. - While my boss - who knew what it meant to me - was kind enough to give me the day off yesterday - FYI, Ozzie, the first day I've had off from my very real job since New Year's - today is another story, so it's back to the grind and sorry, my lib friends, but the actual play-by-play will have to wait till tomorrow.
Just one more quick thought for those who I know for some reason will be here gloating somehow that the crowd size was smaller yesterday than four years ago. From where I stood.....and stood.....and stood.....from 5:45am till I finally got back on the Metro around 3:30pm, it was really kinda hard to tell.
But I do know this much. Who WASN'T there yesterday? Mitt and Ann Romney.
Who WAS there? Barack and Michelle Obama and Joe and Jill Biden.
Enjoy your "gloating", guys! :)

From the article above:
From my perspective, I am very happy Barack Obama is our two-term Democrat President.
Having said that, here’s this writer’s observations from the msnbc slide-show, Historic Inauguration Day Star-studded Extravaganza.
John Mayer and Katy Perry got fricken tickets?
Jay-Z is with Beyonce and isn’t uncontrollably smiling?
Rep. Paul Ryan’s hair is made from Liquorish Twizzlers.
Jill Biden is a lovely lady.
America has been blessed watching another First Family grow-up in the White House.
I like Hillary Clinton’s glasses.
I don’t care what any of you all say, Jimmy Carter is my favorite President of MY lifetime.
Did you see the size of the Biden Family Bible?
Michelle Obama looked beautiful in her inaugural dress.
I think we have the coolest First Family ever.
It was a lovely day for America.
God Bless Martin Luther King.
God Bless our President.
We now interrupt this program to bring you the following message:

Interesting you say that last comment there...I watched Morning Joe this morning and Sen. Tom Colburn (sp?) was there. Of course he and Joe went into their traditional fiscal discourse, but I was struck at the understand that he and Joe both joined the Congress in 94 and both claim their reason for running and their concern # 1 has always been the debt/deficit.
I think Scarborough was in there for a couple of terms in the House, but that makes Colburn a 3 term Senatator...so he's been in for the bulk of President Clinton, 2 terms of President Bush and 1 term of President Obama...so for all this reasoned, fiscal talk that you are putting out and all of your claims as to how the Senate has not worked under normal procedures for the last 3 years etc, I'm trying to figure what in the hell have you been doing for the last oh, say 15 years or so in the Senate that is supposed to make me listen to what you believe you have to say NOW vs you presenting a review of all things you have done over your 3 terms to show me how you prevented the debt from growing to what it is now.

JoAnne, perfectly wonderful description of your day. Although I watched from the warmth of my livingroom, I felt "the Hope, the Excitement, the Tangible Electricity". I will add there was another difference because in 2009, President Obama faced the greatest economic challenge since the Great Depression, two wars raging and an economy on the brink of total collapse. This time, it was clear that some of that burden had been lifted from President Obama's shoulders.
I loved it when leaving the ceremonial stage, he stopped, turned around to look and savor the moment because as he was heard saying "I want to take a look.....I'm not going to see this again" and his gaze took in the huge crowd waving American flags and cheering him. While there were many special moments to enjoy yesterday, many "Kodak" moments, that was perhaps my favorite one--our President taking the time to appreciate, to savor the million or so people who were there to be part of his inauguration.
The dead female intern found in Morning Joke's office might of had something to do with cutting his career short...
Allen... sour milk in your wheaties this morning? No one said you have to listen or believe anything I say, just like anyone that comes on here doesn't. There are many sides to a story NOT just one. Where have I indicated anything OTHER that Washington (in general) to get the @!$%# shoveled out and get down to business. Wake up and smell the dawn of a new day. Everyone's got an opinion just like everyone's got an a$$hole. If you don't like it don't read it. It is that simple.
So much for the MSM *cough* journalists promising us how much smaller the crowds were going to be...
Then they wonder why NO one takes them seriously anymore!
Kristen Welker & Chuckie T may want to note Al Roker got a response from the President because Al refers to him as Mr. President NOT Mr. Obama!

I'm just curious why so much money was spent on all the glitz and glitter of this inauguration, at a time when so many Americans are still out of work, underemployed, feelings the affects of the overall economy, or (even more importantly) still reeling from the aftershock of Hurricane Sandy.
Whatever private donations paid for the interior decorating, and the drinks at these inaugural balls could have been used to help those who still don't have electricity, or who's houses were condemned out in places like Rockaway, and the Jersey Shore.
It's shameful for this President, who told us that the wealthy in this country have to "pay their fair share" of the tax burden (meaning that they should pay more), to be partying in grand style in finely tailored new clothing, dancing around with his wife in her lavishly expensive new gown that will be worn only once, burning up fuel in dozens of security & support vehicles, ringing up an overtime bill from the DC police department, and boosting the costs associated with his own personal security detail as he "partied" around Washington, all the while charging it off to the American taxpaying public.
I understand the President is entitled to a little pomp and ceremony for his inauguration. But, shouldn't this President, above all others, set an example and tone this sort of thing down, more than just a bit, in order to save the taxpayers some money?
It would seem that Obama's philosophy is "do as I SAY, and not as I DO."
We can only hope that the people of this country will smarten up, and see just how much of a liar and a hypocrite this man really is.
One question: When WAS Mr. Nice Guy???
Yep, this country has an overabundance of deadbeats, nipplesuckers, welfare puppies, illegal aliens, left wing morons, and ignorant Obama zombies like Feisty, Bev, et. al. They were all drawn to Obama, the rotting scum, taking the oath of office like the maggots and parasites they all are.

Allen... sour milk in your wheaties this morning? No one said you have to listen or believe anything I say, just like anyone that comes on here doesn't. There are many sides to a story NOT just one. Where have I indicated anything OTHER that Washington (in general) to get the @!$%# shoveled out and get down to business. Wake up and smell the dawn of a new day. Everyone's got an opinion just like everyone's got an a$$hole. If you don't like it don't read it. It is that simple.
==========
My comment wasn't intended towards you, but to gentleman like Senator Colburn. I don't know you like that to have 'sour mile in my wheaties' because of something you said.
One of the critiques commonly thrown the President's way is this kind of quick ascension w/no alleged legislative history under his belt, but then you turn around and you have guys like Colburn and others who have been around 3, 4, 5 terms in the Senate...reelected in the House over and over and yet for all of the 'fault' that is being laid at the feet of 'this' President, it has always been the Congress who approves this spending, so as far as I'm concerned, my kids can ask for anything they want to, but if I control the purse strings in the house, I've got no one else to blame but myself.
I'm high tired of listening to Congressman after Congressman put their arses in front of a camera and tell America that Washington has a spending problem and try to hold that issue at the feet of the Presidency. Just as in the example, the Executive Office can ask for whatever they want, but if Congress controls the purse string, I'm not certain how the "Washington spending problem" is laid at the doorstep of the WH by fools who have been in Washington for 20 and 30 years writing checks that it appears they obviously can't cash.
There is one thing that would gain the president my respect, if he could do this one thing. Stop the corporate welfare, stop the farm welfare, and overhaul the citizen welfare.
I just did a rough run on my taxes last night on TurboTax. My wife and I just bought our first house last year. We were expecting a fair (not high) amount to help us get a bit of a handle on our debt. I sat there in a bit of shock when I found out we were going to get back basically what we got back last year (~200 bucks more). Now before the libs cry that I just want the government tit, I wasn't upset that we weren't going to get back more because of buying the house. I was upset because once again, the middle class is getting screwed.
While this adminstration and congress continue to:
1. Let large corps not pay taxes, in fact allow them to knowingly hide money overseas.
2. Pay farms NOT to grow crops, cover droughts, allow a LOT of fraud.
3. Give welfare to pretty much anyone and everyone that isn't a white male, while at the same time letting these people file for income tax on dollars they didn't earn, AND get back more than was taken out in taxes.
4. The list goes on.
... the middle class continues to get hit.
So far under this adminstration, we're looking at :
1. Insurance premium increases due to ACA on the middle class working families.
2. Expiration of the payroll tax cut
3. Expiration of some tax breaks on home ownership.
If this president wants equality, then make things equal. I'm not talking monetary equality, that will never, ever be achieved, plus it goes against what this country was founded on. I'm talking the same rules for everyone.
There is a video out about yesterday..... N***** gone wild.
I'm surprised President Obama didn't give his speech in the round. He's the perfect pivot man for a 1,000,000 person circle jerk. Hate to be the National Park Service guys responsible for cleaning up that mess. Yuk!
It was a beautiful day, filled with wonderful words and great pictures. Our First Family are a fine example of good parenting by two very loving people. Watching them interact was nice to see, reminding us how ordinary and down to earth they are.
JoAnne so glad you enjoyed it what a great memory of such historic importance, I look forward to hearing the details and the pics.
One of my most favorite moment and there were a lot was this portion from a great Inaugural Address:
"We, the people, still believe that every citizen deserves a basic measure of security and dignity. We must make the hard choices to reduce the cost of health care and the size of our deficit. But we reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future. For we remember the lessons of our past, when twilight years were spent in poverty, and parents of a child with a disability had nowhere to turn. We do not believe that in this country, freedom is reserved for the lucky, or happiness for the few. We recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us, at any time, may face a job loss, or a sudden illness, or a home swept away in a terrible storm. The commitments we make to each other – through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security – these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great."
This is the essence of why I fervently support and voted for this man, to me he carries within him all that should define us as caring, hardworking and compassionate people no matter our race, color or creed. That is why I find him inspiring and I hope we get there.

Wow...stayed up all night for that one, did ya? If this is the example of conservative, creative energy in the Country you wonder why we are struggling as a Country.
Allen... you see, that right there is how the world wide web works. It is a place that is based on the written word of others. When something copied then pasted, then yes that is directed towards me or anyone else's caption. In my opinion, I am tired of all the words coming out of every mouth in Washington. I want them to get things done. They need to stop putting band-aids on the issues and handle them and that should not infringe on anyone's rights. Just like if I go to the doctor for a sinus infection, the physician or p.a. asks if I have a gun in my house or not. What business is it of theirs or the government when I am there for an illness?
i dont like Oblamo but is that really necessary...??
Allen, Omaha #1.31, so true. Coburn certainly didn't do anything about the deficit and the debt during the Bush 43 years EXCEPT add trillions of unfunded spending to it. These right-wing fiscal hawks are the biggest phony baloneys to call themselves legislators in decades. It isn't a principle if it only applies when the other side wins the White House--instead, it is a talking point.
As for the "liberal Reagan", thank heaven for the fact that President Obama is a liberal. The only comparison between Reagan and Obama that can legitimately be made is "transitional". However (I was a republican when Reagan was elected), I find little comparison between President Reagan who demonized and hated government, made sure to tell us everytime he could how evil government is and set about to "starve the beast" which meant starving democracy...and President Obama who believes, as did our founders, that government has a role to play and government is the tie that binds us and these 50 states into a great democracy and a powerful leader in the world.

That is exactly why we are going the way of Greece. There isn't enough tax money to do the things you folks want to do - only mounting debt. Hard choices are coming whether or not you or Obama want it.

Something tells me the country will realize its' mistake again two years after they reelected this big-eared clown...like what happened in 2010
Loving the headline, "No More Mr Nice Guy". This would imply that at some point in the past four years, Obama HAS BEEN Mr Nice Guy, something I find amusing. Every time I've turned on the TV he is speaking down to one group or another, be it republicans in congress, the supreme court, gun owners, the rich, those in the Tea Party, etc. Without question the most divisive president we've EVER had (at least in my lifetime). Cant wait to see what a not-so-nice-guy Obama looks like (sarcasm intended).

I hear what you are saying, but I believe your are making a not so true statement. I don't believe the law enables and/or mandates that Drs ask if you have weapons in your home if you come in for a runny nose..but rather just as educators are required to investigate/report when signs of abuse appear to be happening in a child's home, if violence or mental illness scenarios are before a Dr, providing them the legal authority to question if firearms are present in the environment, doesn't strike me as outside of conventional wisdom.
As just a point of information about you, no, it is no their business if you own firearms...but if you had a child for instance, that you brought in for care and mental instability clearly was in play, yes, it can and should become a point of concern.
I don't see it any different than if my child became poisoned by a cleaning substance and my Dr. asked about where these products might be placed in the home and ways to prevent them from being accessed.
Middle class - Middle class, just because I say it dosen't mean anything will get done to help them. Something Obama does not understand. What in that load of spew was about the economy? I will wait for my answer. Median income down $4,000.00, the middle class has been bent over this bad since Carter, Barry's Social Security Increase costing the middle class greatly, and now as Joe points out the health care fiasco is coming later this year. Another huge hit on spendable cash. This President is setting us up for a big down fall, the middle class is getting fuc4ed.

How 'bout that?
Everybody ♥ Uncle Joe. He is so down to earth!!!
President Obama recognizes that the Republican party is badly wounded. They are a minority party that is shrinking demographically. They have no coherent ideology and their various factions are on the brink of war with each other. Their policies on most issues are widely disliked by the American public. They have no charismatic leadership to pull them together. And a continued, gradual, economic recovery will only cement the public's preference for the Democratic party and for more progressive solutions.
The President would be well advised to remember, though, that wounded animals are the most dangerous and are prone to lashing out violently, even if doing so ultimately hurts them even more. The Republican party, and more dangerously, the extreme right movement they have cultivated in their base, can still do a tremendous amount of damage to the country. Push them too far, too fast, and they may decide that is their best recourse.
I would also like for the President and administration to make electoral reform a priority. Republicans are embracing the strategy of manipulating elections to retain power, and the federal government must do something to protect the democratic right of one person / one vote from the existential threat the Republican party represents.

Now that is something to chuckle about...you and talking about others having a defeatist attitude.
The budget deficit in Bush's last year was $168b and declining. The deficit in every year Obama has been president is over $1 Trillion. Now maybe the "fiscal hawks" weren't as aggressive as you think they should be but they are leagues above the spenders on the political Left.

JMJ - your post says everything about you and nothing about our great President. It says you are an ignorant, racist, fool - perfect Republican - who will never amount to anything.
Beverly, I like Feisty, was VERY uncomfortable having the President and Vice President walk down the street. But, I loved Joe Biden walking over to shake Al Roker's hand. Then he kept going down the line shaking hands. I think that's when the secret service opened the car doors and escorted him in.
We are SOOOOOO lucky to have these men leading the country!
Yesterday, before dawn, I drove to the park and ride at 3;45am, then caught a bus to the West Falls Church Metro station. We exited at Federal Plaza and there was already a four block line waiting to get into the gate for gold/yellow ticket holders which would open at 7:30.
I was part of the million people , part of the the crowd in the gold standing room viewing area facing the Captial as the sun rose on a great day for our country. The people I met from all many different states, young and old, were there to witness history and show by our presence the support for President Obama and the victory of this last election.
I stood for 7 hours , laughing, talking, cheering, and sharing our hope for the future, the call to action to work for the common good in areas of immigration, jobs, strengthening SS and Medicare and our healthcare for all.
As we left the Capital area to proceed to our excellent seats for the parade, we said good by to a group of five students from American University. They were proud to have voted for Obama, witness their first inauguration., and believed that the next time they would be back when we witness the swearing in of our first Woman President of the United States.
There is a video out about yesterday..... N***** gone wild.
I've called out the left plenty on racism, I'll also call out whatever party you belong to. That really wasn't needed at all. Get the racism out of this country.

Maybe you can go ahead and talk with my wife who also works in the health insurance industry. She had a 20% premium increase in Oct. My health insurance is grandfathered this year, but we've been warned of a large increase coming this Oct due to ACA. Sorry, this isn't a prediction, it's right there on the pay stub in black ink.
You know what the payroll tax funds right? Social Security. It's your money. You aren't one of these people complaining about the inaction on keeping S.S. solvent, and at the same time complaining about the expiration of the payroll tax cut are you?
Pull your head out of your ass and read my post. I wasn't complaining about it expiring, in fact I don't think we shouldn't have the tax break at all. I was complaining about the government letting that expire while at the same time extending the large corporate tax breaks. I am against tax breaks of any kind, and fully support a flat tax code. You want equality, there's equality.

I never miss Lawrence O'Donnell because he is always succinct and correct. it's like an oasis after listening to some pundits bitch all day.
The Democrat party has historically been the party of bigotry and anti-tolerance. It is currently the party of division and partisanship. The President made it abundantly clear that his second term would be more divisive partisan and petty than before (I shutter to think how that is possible).

Ok...you run with that friend. I'm not certain how you believe the Country being in 2 wars 6/7 years by the of the President Bush's Presidency (unpaid for), Medicare reform (unpaid for), 2 rounds of tax cuts (not offfset) and the last positive month for Job growth in the Country was Dec 08 and the deficit was just a $168B and declining, can be said in the same sentence.
Like I said, you run with that.
Very, very proud of President Obama. Another great, great speech. I hope Republicans were taking notes.
God help America...
JMJ welcome to ignore, I like to give liberals a hard time but racism is so 20th century.

All hail to Commissar Obama and his People's Republic agenda to destroy the evil patricians and dole out the spoils to the lowly proletariat......but he'd better get it done soon, because it won't be long before the dollar is devalued and the national credit rating is destroyed. What is really funny is the Republican House is trying to force the Senate to pass the Republican budget by holding any pay due until joint budget is passed. What the Senate should do is amend the bill to require that neither House of Congress gets paid until the budget is passed.
The Senate, generally, has people who don't rely on the pay from the US Government to get by. While $174,000 is not a small amount by any means, the Senate for the most part is filled with millionaires who do NOT depend on the Senate salary to pay the bills. The Tea Party people are the ones who feed at the government trough.
Instead of trying to force Senators to agree to Republicans demands, the Senate should force the House to become non-partisan and put forth a reasonable budget.
That is what is needed.
Obviously the financial collapse was a major deal and one or two years of large spending is completely justifiable - but - something you lefties and Obama don't get - economic growth is a magical thing. It raises revenue without hiking rates. lowers unemployment and creates widespread prosperity. If Obama focused on economic growth rather than all the crap he listed in his inauguration he would have a chance at being a great president. But he won't. He can't. It's just not in him and it never will be. We will be bumping along the bottom for another 4 years.
Northstar, what a great day it sounds like you had and I bet well worth all the inconveniences.
But when you have an opportunity to see President Obama sworn in, it's what to be expected. Just glad the weather cooperated much better than '09.
On tv yesterday morning, there was an interview with a 70 year old black woman who was at the Mall working as a volunteer. It was truly something.
Congratulations on your day's journey into DC for this historic occasion. The crowds were stunning, simply stunning. I can't stop seeking out photos of the Mall with you all from yesterday - Love Was In The Air -
First, Obama couldn't carry Reagan's jock strap and to compare him in ANY way to Reagan is an insult and a joke.
Secondly, Obama wants to DESTROY this country for its greatness and turn it into a welfare state. The first step in all of this was Obamacare. The second will be when we collapse from bankruptcy from all of Obama's spending as China will no longer want to finance our debt.
Thirdly, I have reached a new low in respect for black people (not all blacks) as over 95% voted this incompetent man back for another four years. Can they think? I think not. He did nothing for them in his first four years and black unemployment went up to new highs. Its now around 14% and younger black unemployment is over 25%. It's only going to get worse folks as Obamacare kicks in and companies cut full time employees. Pretty sad. Just vote for someone because of the color of their skin. You obviously were not listening when Dr. ML King made his speech.
Seeking Insanity - Maybe you should take a tour of what Biden and Obama have done with thier policies to thier home towns. Make SURE you go before dark or someone might kill you!
Allen - Omaha, it IS true re doctors asking their patients if there is a firearm in the house. It's also right on their software. Two of my doctors have already said no more Medicaid or Medicare and have wiped the gov't software off their computers and fire-walled their computers from their spying insurance companies. They, along with several others whom I know, will likely shut their doors in 2014. Unintended consequences, eh?
Oh, and by the way, the elitist psychologists/psychiatrists are already refusing to interrogate (oops, I mean evaluate) anyone for the mental health part of firearm applications. So much for EO's.
Funny, the main stream media "gurus" bent over backwards to soothe the electorate's fears by selling the ridiculous idea that Obama -- having been re-elected and free of the constraints of pandering to the Left -- would move to the middle during his second term. Most conservatives knew better. They knew that instead, he would see himself as free of the constraints of the Middle and swing far Left. Congrats to you fools in the Middle who voted for this guy who will put ion the full-court press to advance the liberal (seriously, you can try to re-brand it as "progressive" but it is what it is) ideals and agenda that have sunk so many economies before it.
Ah, good old straw man. A Republican's best friend. Obama wants the recovery to start benefiting the middle class (after 30 years of stagnation) and not just the top 1% (after 30 years of explosive growth, only momentarily paused during recessions), therefore, obviously, he wants to destroy capitalism and turn us into a communist state. One thing really necessitates the other, right spidey? There is no income inequality in this country, is there? There is no such thing as the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, is there? And in your "Christian" values (if not yours, then certainly the right's), there isn't anything that obliges you to worry about the poor, now is there?
Well, that's on the Republican House. They're the ones who got our credit rating downgraded one-and-a-half years ago. Says me, and says most everybody else. If you don't want our economy flushed down the toilet, stop electing irresponsible, illiterate, ignorant, party-first, lunatic right-wing extremists to Congress. Or better still, nominate them for election and have a camera follow them around so we have footage of their every blunder about rape, the age of the Earth, homosexuality, and/or science. That'll both keep them the heck off Capitol Hill and ensure a smooth election for their Democratic opponent.
Ozzie it was James Earl Ray day. All the BLACKS got the day off along with all the government workers.
Note to Mister President- If our children are @!$%#ing broke they aren't going to give a @!$%# what the weather is like. How about showing some concern for "future generations" with your fiscal policies???

2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow shockingly claims he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration’s “litmus test” for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.
Garrow was nominated three years ago for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and is the founder of The Pink Pagoda Girls, an organization dedicated to rescuing baby girls from “gendercide” in China. Garrow has been personally involved in “helping rescue more than 36,000 Chinese baby girls from death.” He is a public figure, not an anonymous voice on the Internet, which makes his claim all the more disturbing.
“I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new “litmus test” in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. “The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not”. Those who will not are being removed,” Garrow wrote on his Facebook page, later following up the post by adding the man who told him is, “one of America’s foremost military heroes,” whose goal in divulging the information was to “sound the alarm.”
Garrow’s claim is even more explosive given that the country is in the throes of a national debate about gun control, with gun rights advocates keen to insist that the founders put the second amendment in the Constitution primarily as a defense against government tyranny.
It also follows reports on Sunday that General James Mattis, head of the United States Central Command, “is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned.”
Concerns over US troops being given orders to fire on American citizens in the event of mass gun confiscation first arose in 1995 when hundreds of Marines at 29 Palms, California were given a survey as part of an academic project by Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham which asked the Marines if they would, “Fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the United States government.”
The survey was subsequently leaked because many of the Marines who took it were shocked by the tone of the question.
The US Military has clearly outlined innumerable civil emergency scenarios under which troops would be authorized to fire on U.S. citizens.
In July 2012, the process by which this could take place was made clear in a leaked US Army Military Police training manual for “Civil Disturbance Operations” (PDF) dating from 2006. Similar plans were also outlined in an updated manual released in 2010 entitled FM 3-39.40 Internment and Resettlement Operations.
The 2006 document outlines how military assets will be used to “help local and state authorities to restore and maintain law and order” in the event of mass riots, civil unrest or a declaration of martial law.
On page 20 of the manual, rules regarding the use of “deadly force” in confronting “dissidents” on American soil are made disturbingly clear with the directive that a, “Warning shot will not be fired.”
Given that second amendment advocates are now being depicted as dangerous terrorists by the federal government and local law enforcement, Garrow’s claim is sure to stoke controversy given that Americans are seeing their gun rights eviscerated while the federal government itself stockpiles billions of bullets.
Last week, Gloversville Mayor Dayton King warned that any federal gun confiscation program could lead to a “Waco-style standoff” in rural areas of America.
Hey gang!
For you new folks, Feisty, Beverly, Pigotry and David Walker are all the same poster. They all post from the same PC and have been exposed.

Wow! All you people up top who post 100 times a day on political articles before you even read them need to find a different hobby. If you get out more you may find your life a little more gratifying
==========================
Thanks for reposting my previous remark as you have done pretty much on every post for all. Over 20 something so far! Good job not having something else to do!
It looks like you proved my point. I Ctrl + F'd you first several posts and none of them even mentioned the article. They were all just dumb reamarks to other posters. Again I will say that you among many others (Ahem, nevermind you know who you are) need a new hobby to fufull your time.
Randy,
Please quit with the damn dissertations. Keep it short.
geo - you're a blithering idiot. President Obama has nothing to do with the policies of Chicago. And, dufus, I live here. He is NOT a politician in the city - try to at least have some concept of how things work. Now, go away. As usual you just look stupider with each and every post you make!
Bobster - I see you're back with your lies and idiotcy. You truly are one of the most ignorant buffoons around.
steve1962 - since Martin Luther King is a federal holiday many companies were closed yesterday. Your ignorance is ony overshadowed by your eagerness to show it!
There's nothing about fiscal responsibility in the oath.
I'll play devil's advocate here: You bemoan bigotry, intolerance and division, yet that is what the Democrat party of today does more than anyone else. Disagree with Obama? You call them hateful, bigoted racists!!
Your efforts seek to deny others the right to speak freely and have different values and opinions than yours. You insult them, insinuate they are criminals or mentally insane and call nasty names. Then, in leftist fashion, you claim they are being mean-spirited.
The birther thing: We both know that if a Republican had the unusual circumstances surrounding his birth records (in addition to spending nearly $2 million to keep them sealed) you would SCREAM that an injustice was being foisted upon the American people. You would protest and DEMAND that he be release his records or be impeached, then jailed. Double standards are a leftist standard.
Restriction on women's rights:?? Don't have a clue what you're talking about. Are men able to commit crimes without arrest that women are not??
Anger at the poor: Leftists have extreme anger at the rich, which is counter intuitive. If Donald Trump or Bill Gates make another ten million Dollars, it costs me nothing. ZIP. They are taking nothing at all away from me.
The poor, on the other hand, breed offspring they can't feed (by the hundreds of thousands), then they must be supported by taxpayers like me when I have worked hard to do everything right. I am punished for theirmistakes.
BTW, I am liberal in the sense I believe in liberty and freedom. I am NOT a neo-communist "progressive".
Bobster,
Care for some cheese …
I am a little late to the party today, but great posts JoAnne, David Walker, Tomas Grande and others.
I would like to call out the newly-returned but still long-winded Bill In Fairfax, who seems to think if he writes a long paragraph using a lot of big words he will sound intelligent and meaningful.
This the same 'Bill in Fairfax' who before the election posted day after day that the polls were biased and slanted, and that anyone who believed them was an idiot. Every day he would give his reasoned opinion as to why the Romney landslide was inevitable, and why all of us stupid liberals were just fooling ourselves. After all, why should we listen to things like math and statistics when we have the all-knowing Bill to set us straight.
What was his closing line again? Oh yeah, "Romney will win, and win decisively". How did that work out for you? Your rants are exposed as nothing more than the delusional postings of a wannabe intellectual.
Bill, if you were so wrong for so long, why should we listen to you or believe anything you say now? You should go find Karl Rove and all the other closed-minded, intellectually challenged, math-fearing Republican pundits and compare notes to determine why you were so spectacularly WRONG.
Then you should all just fade away..........
All the hate and vitriol from the Right this morning is wasted motion. The truths echoed in President Obama's speech ultimately trump any whining about Koolaid or cheap shots about nonexistent Obamaphones. Conservatives have NOTHING to offset the major points of the President's speech;
None of us have equal rights until ALL OF US have equal rights.
"These truths" as described in the Declaration of Independence may be self evident, but they are not self executing.
We are a nation of AMERICANS, not "makers" and "takers."
We built this nation TOGETHER, not separately.
The free market only thrives when there are rules to ensure competition and fair play.
Denying the truth of threats like climate change does not make these threats disappear.
We are a nation of immigrants. That was true when my ancestors moved from Germany to the farm fields of Iowa and the steel mills of Chicago...it's always been true, and it remains true now.
We, the people still believes that every citizen deserves a basic measure of security and dignity.
Subverting the votes of others is a defeat of American values.
But perhaps the most important statement was this one;
You and I, as citizens, have the power to set this country's course.
Let's go.

really? That's what you have to b*tch about? An American tradition?

Bobster-1557895
you are just so smart! And I know you will show us all the proof you have so you don't look like a big, fat, liar !
No more Mr. Nice Guy? The last four years Obama was an arrogant narcissist fool - what makes you think the NEXT four years would be any different?
I have an idea, why doesn't Obama focus on the Economy and Jobs "like a laser" like he has promised the LAST four years? All Obama has accomplished is a presidency where he has less people working now than when he took office. Also, Obama gets the title as being the FIRST president in U.S. history where the median income has actually DECLINED!!
But why would we expect anything less from a person like Obama who has NEVER worked a day in his life in the private sector? So since he doesn't understand how the private sector works it is not surprising that he is damaging the private sector every single day.
I don't know what is scarier: An Obama presidency that is the epitome of failure or that there are enough uninformed and unintelligent people that would elect him for a second term?
No Q22, there's something YOU don't get. The magic of economic growth slows, then ceases entirely as we refuse to invest in our infrastructure, in education, in basic research. THAT is the legacy of the last 30 years, three decades whose tone were set by Reagan and only slowed (not stopped or reversed) by Clinton as the article points out. We are suffering BECAUSE we've been convinced we can get something for nothing, that all government spending is waste, and that declining taxes are still too high.

Its tradition to squander money away on an inauguration or are you talking of inauguration in general.
Proud2BLiberal - too bad you have no concept of reality and see the world though conservative eyes. You are NO liberal and never have been one. The disgusting posts you make show a shallow mind so totally out of kilter with reality it is very sad.
No liberals are angry at the rich. More liberals are 1%ers than conservatives - dope! And, many of us work at very lucrative jobs. Stop the conservative lies. You just look foolish!

Not quite certain I agree with the premise. The article speaks to a topic(s)..and people respond accordingly. That may be a quote directly from the article, other times something more broad. It's a chat board...so people chat.
I, as well as many others have plenty to do, but that doesn't necessarily mean that doing those other things are at the expense of being able to post....be it 1 time or 100 times.
Allen- You sir are a moron.
Well, let's see, we have a crippling debt, rampant unemployment, a moribund housing market, a confusing and incoherent foreign policy (where our own citizens are being killed daily in foreign countries), and the most divided congress and population we've ever had. I'd say those little items of interest to conservatives offset the hell out of Commissar Obama's petty priorities.....shoving gay marriage down out throats, pissing away billions on unworkable green energy boondoggles, and trying to get even for slavery which ended 150 years ago.
"Hey gang, For you new folks" ... Bobster-1557895 is a phoney who plays with a blowup doll decked out in a cheerleader outfit. He owns a company that remarkably can crack into the NSA but is unable to do the same with Newsvine. Just another wanker.
Still waiting on my IP address Bobsy ... come on, walk the walk big fella.
It is so fun to hear all the pissed-off Republicans!
You kids had your chance....and what did you do with it?
NOTHING!
Don't stop whining though. We LOVE it!!
No liberals are angry at the rich.
I just had to make a new post with that quote because it is so awesomingly (made that word up!) false. It's kinda like saying the world is flat!
Beverly,
Of course a Gay float. The only thing that could make you happier is a live abortion float to cap it all. Right?
I see that oblamo is all worried about "climate change" and it's affect on the "children". How about the NATIONAL DEBT and IT'S affect on our CHILDREN and GRAND CHILDREN??? It's the SPENDING, stupid!!!

Ummm once you come out from under your rock you'll notice that spending by the government over the last 30 years (last 12 in particular) has been through the roof. Education spending alone is 5 times what it was 30 years ago.
BTW- You libs like to use the word "investment" but it's only an "investment" if we get something in return. If we don't, then it is just spending for the sake of spending as we see with our so-called "education investments".
Crippling debt caused by tax cuts that would "pay for themselves", DECLINING unemployment, a housing market that was destroyed by the failure of Conservative economic ideology, a foreign policy that emphasizes WORKING WITH people around the world rather than propping up petty dictators, and a strong record of success against rampant Conservative obstructions.
The failures we're working no to repair are CONSERVATIVE failures. Pushing silly, faux-Communist labels at the duly elected President of these United States doesn't change that.
Perhaps I left out the most important message from the Inagural...the Confederacy lost the Civil War. Get over it.
“On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.” But chastened by the last four years and emboldened by his decisive re-election in November, Obama yesterday discarded that image of post-partisanship
-----------------
Only the naive ever thought it was anything but a charade. This administration is the nastiest bunch of knee-capping thugs since the Nixon administration. Obama arose from the same Cook County cesspool as his friends Rezko, Emanuel, Blagojevich, et al and he is simply showing himself true to form.
There's nothing like being sucked into the abyss of "smoke and mirrors". I can't wait to watch the educated left-wing head for the center and abandon Obama's far left spending initiatives. I'd say you have about 100 days of celebration "left".
From time to time yesterday, I would check in on posts about the inauguration, and I noticed as the day went on, the 'winger's posts got more and more incoherent. I read some of the worst hate mail I've ever seen, some of the most hysterical doomsday hyperbole I've ever seen, and some of the most disgusting, petty slop I've ever seen. Yesterday was just an awful day for 'baggers and 'wingers! Can you imagine having Barack Obama's inauguration on MLK day? I'm surprised the right didn't claim the Democrats somehow rigged the calendar in order to rub their noses in it to the max.
There is a lot of talk going around about how the Republican Party can re-invent itself. As an old marketing guy, I suggest they start by renaming the party to have a closer fit with the party's new image. They could look at "The Petty Party", since they struck a new level of pettiness throughout yesterday, flailing about for anything that could be taken as negative toward THEIR PRESIDENT. I even saw some comments about how "un-presidential he looked because he actually chewed gum! OMG!!! Impeachable!!!
Or, how about "The Pity Party", because there was an awful lot of that going around, too.
One last suggestion; since the Democrats are already known as the party of the middle class, and Republicans claim they don't want to be known as the party of the upper class, and no one would buy into them representing the lower class, the only appropriate title left is "The Party of No Class." Ah, read their posts and you see it's a perfect fit!
I hope this was helpful to you members of the former Republican Party. I'm just trying to help, since it's been some time since you have been able to come up with an original idea of your own. Happy four more years!
Ah, no. Once you look at the numbers you'll realize that federal spending EXPLODED from the moment GW Bush and his Republican Congress finished their first budget and is no ON THE DECLINE as a proportion of GDP. http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2012/08/government-spending-as-percentage-of-gdp.html
JoAnne in PA, #1- What a truly EXCELLENT! post. (And Summation). Just found a couple of extra minutes to take a peek today, but wanted to take an additional couple to compliment you on your post.

We have middle-of-the-road spending on education and we get middle-of-the-road results. At this point even Mexico spends a larger proportion of their GDP on education than we do. Why is it a surprise we aren't producing first in the world results? http://www.truthfulpolitics.com/http:/truthfulpolitics.com/comments/u-s-education-spending-compared-to-other-countries/

It is fortunate that not everyone in the world works for your wife's employer, because overall, premiums saw their smallest increase in 15 years last year.
The fact is that the vast majority of PPACA cost controls, mandates, taxes and other provisions don't even kick in until 1/1/2014 or later. So the actual effect on premiums remains to be seen.
I understand everyone thinks of their own wallet first... but do you think a home buyer tax credit is what the country needed as the housing bubble was still deflating with property values near bottom? Big picture.
To use your own words, was this necessary?
Just showing his true colors we knew he had all along. Talking to his hive of Collective thinking unions and progressives. If you don't want to live under Socialism, you'd better wake up.

That isn't what we're seeing in southern oregon at all. From keeping up on the news over the year, it isn't what's going on in a few areas.
I understand everyone thinks of their own wallet first... but do you think a home buyer tax credit is what the country needed as the housing bubble was still deflating with property values near bottom? Big picture.
Once again you are COMPLETELY missing my point. Not once, in my posts anywhere, did I complain about me not getting the credits. I complain because the middle class is taking the hits (by an administration supposedly all about the middle class) while corporations, farms, welfare citizens are still getting the breaks.
I very clearly state that NO ONE should be getting the breaks. Cut all deductions, cut all loopholes, cut welfare citizens claiming returns on money they didn't earn, make it fair and even across the board.
To use your own words, was this necessary?
When I respond to someone (twice now) who obviously isn't reading my posts and basically accusing me of whining about stuff I'm not whining about... then yes... it's necessary.
Smh, you do realize that labeling ordinary American Liberalsm as "Socialism" does nothing but make people think better of Socialism, don't you? http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/april_2009/just_53_say_capitalism_better_than_socialism
Conservatives have falsely used the word "Socialism" so often and pervasively that it no longer has meaning to large numbers of people. Just another example of how lying works against the Conservative Movement.
John: Do you not know that the 2003 Bush Tax Cuts created such growth that in 2007 we had the MOST tax revenue than any other time in history? Tax revenue in 2003 (before the tax cuts) 1.8 Trillion. Tax revenue in 2007 (due to the economic growth caused by the tax cuts) $2.6 Trillion.
Now, the government also SPENT the most in history and THAT was the reason for the increased debt - not the tax cuts. Tax cuts actually created economic growth and increased the tax revenue nearly $800 Billion. And in 2007 our deficit was less than $200 Billion approaching a balanced budget again until the recession hit.
Also, you may not realize that last year (2012) we had almost the same tax revenue as we did in 2007 ($2.5 Trillion)? So if spending was the same as 2007 (about $2.7 Trillion) our deficit would be less than $300 Billion. Why do we have over a $1 Trillion deficit if tax revenues last year were almost the same as 2007 which was the MOST tax revenue in U.S. history?
Because Obama is spending $3.8 Trillion a year rather than the $2.7 Trillion in 2007. The debt was NOT due to the tax cuts. In fact the tax cuts almost balanced the budget in 2007. We had last year the SECOND most tax revenue in any one year in U.S. history but due to the nearly 40% increase in spending we now must borrow $1 Trillion+ a year to cover the Obama spending.
The Bush Tax Cuts led to the LARGEST increase in tax revenue (2003 to 2007) in U.S. history. Obama last year had almost the same tax revenue as 2007 but still borrowing over $1 Trillion. We don't have a tax revenue problem - we have a spending problem.
And before you tell me I don't know what I am talking about (or got my data from some "right wing" source) I will tell you EXACTLY where I got the data: From the White House website itself and the Office of Management and Budget (http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals).
But facts are to Liberals what sunlight is to Dracula - I think it burns their eyes........
My, My, euphoria has flooded the forum this am. You would think that a King had just taken over a nation that was thriving, prospering with no debt, good economy, no need for budget, affordable health care, no unemployment, immigrants leaving by the droves, gun control under control, good foreign policy and no environmental problems to name a few.
Oh no!! I forgot about 47.5 million on food stamps. Something wrong here......
AlexM - again, little boy who apparently gets his allowance from mommy and daddy - more 1%ers are liberals than conservatives and no, dearie, liberals don't hate or envy the rich. Most of us work and many of us do very well. It appears you are deflecting your own jealousy - once again. Too bad the children on the far right are soooooo out of sorts!
To my liberal friends - a sure sign the economy is on the right track - 2012 home sales were the BEST in 5 years! It's a good sign!
kkwilson - yes, let's not forget those on food stamps that Bush is responsible for. See, although more went on food stamps after President Obama took office, the decline in the economy was already in free fall. Luckily he has put a stop to it and we are beginning to recover. However, it will take time to get employment up and those receiving government help back on payrolls!
I knew Obama was a closet Republican! My predictions on his 2nd term XL Pipeline, legal. Fracking, legal and chemicals still considered Intellectual Property and hidden from public. More freedoms stolen in the name of safety for you and me. And finally, the war machine continues its rein of terror on the 3rd world, as we expand into Pakistan, Syria and Iran. And in the name of hypocrisy, a flyby of drones that kill innocent people in the name of profit for Mega-Global Corporations.
Did I mention that I'm a leftie? Obama is to Democrats, what McCarthy was to socialism.

I'm deflecting my jealousy? I don't have jealousy about money. What I have, I've earned, and that's all I want. But go ahead and try this new thing where liberals aren't angry at the rich.

How about it?
TomasGrande - You remarked that there is no such thing as an Obama Phone. To keep it honest, the Free Obama Phone website, with the application and government guidelines for the phone, are only a click away. You can also find out much regarding the history of the advent of the telephone service started by the government (1910/1936) which initially was set in place to reach rural medical facilities, libraries and schools. It continued to grow through many changes over many decades to today which includes cellphones for the poor - named the 'Obama Phone', promoted during this administration per the website which offers free phones based on income. This service has been provided by taxes (though they are simply referred to as 'mandatory contributions' in the form of fees gathered from phone service providers in an amount as determined by Congress). There was a period when curbing the broadening application of the phone service during Reagan's administraton was made, in order to return the program to its original mission to connect entities (and people with disabilities, affirmities, age related challenges with limited or no access) and to stop Congress from being able to demand phone service providers to contribute increasing amounts of revenue on an ever-broadening basis distanced from the basic intent. It was held that the broader view of free phone service was not 'a civil right'. Today it is a 'right' for some and a 'mandatory payment' for other citizens and phone service providers.
I find it interesting that this story didn't care to make mention of his claim of standing against "perpetual" war. I guess that must be because that aspect of his speech points out just what an obvious hypocrite he really is, seeing as he does nothing to end the costly, unnecessary and useless War On Drugs or the false flag War On Terror. Granted he started neither, but then again they are well within his power to end. Yet he actually exacerbates their conditions by commanding his DOJ and AG, Eric Holder, to sell assault weapons to Mexican drug cartels which are then turned on American citizens and he continues to make hellfire missile drone strikes on half a dozen Middle-Eastern nations against innocent women and children, illegally, without the approval of congress, yet he "stands against the idea of ""perpetual"" war!!!" How interesting.

YOU know, I KNOW, THE WORLD KNOWS, EVERYBODY KNOWS that the racists and bigots abandoned the Democratic Party in 1964 with the passage of Civil Rights because they couldn't stand the thought of being fair to minorities, EXACTLY the same way Republicans can't stand the thought of All Americans having affordable health care, only maybe a bit worse.
Republicans, keep the lies flowing so that it stays fresh on everybody's mind to vote every Republican OUT of office in the next mid term elections.
Republicans already had control of the White House, the Senate and the House ALL AT THE SAME TIME when George "Curveball" Bush was in office, and Republicans totally wrecked the entire country, our economy, and everything that could be wrecked, Republicans ripped apart. Republicans took our jobs, our money, they ran totally amock and now refuse to allow us to recover!!!
Everything Republicans could possibly do to hurt America and the American People they did it when they were in control! Republicans have got some crazy nerve to ask us to trust them when they completely abused us AND the United States when they were in control!!!
Republicans are gone, for the most part, and we are healing, and we are HAPPY without you!
I hope Republicans got that real good.
Kick A$$ Mr. President!!!

http://www.thecenterlane.com/?p=621
Not that you won't be back tomorrow spewing the same lies.
And "Together they rule the world." OMG, quick call SpaceX.
I have to laugh at all these Obama supporters who still blame Bush for the condition our economy is in. How many more terms would you like for Obama to serve before you finally quit blaming the other guy for Obama's own lack? 3 of the last 4 years he has not submitted a budget to congress for their approval within the LEGAL time frame and all 4 years he has not done any of the following 3 within the legally required time frame and all of his budget proposals have been rejected as too extravagant. Simply irresponsible.
The President’s Midsession Review has never been released by July 16;
The President’s Financial Report of the U.S. Government has never been released by December 15;
The President has not once responded to the Medicare Trigger.
Who blames Bush? I blame a comprehensive failure of the entire Conservative economic belief system.
Trickle down doesn't work. Laissez Faire doesn't work. Deregulation as an end in itself doesn't work.
Period.
Do you see anything there that says I blame Bush? I blame Republicans. Plural.
Okay, so blame the GOP but the validity of my point still remains and you neglected to answer. How many more terms would you like to give Obama before you finally are willing to admit that his economics are faulty as well?
Are you really suggesting 30 years of Republican failure should be fully fixed in less than 4 years with split governance?
AlexM-3929653
Then all I can tell you is that "southern Oregon and a few areas" aren't representative of the nation as a whole, where again, the rate of premium inflation has slowed to its lowest rate in 15 years. Look it up. But this backward looking argument is actually moot, b/c as I pointed out, the bulk of PPACA kicks in NEXT year and later.
You said you "sat there in shock" when you realized the credit had expired, so you gave a certain impression there. But I see your larger point, and I won't disagree that tax reform is necessary. It should be done fairly. The tax code should be audited (no pun intended) - in a qualitative AND quantative manner. Look at cost vs. benefit to the economy and impacts on real people. Don't just blindly remove all deductions, exemptions, and loopholes. Keep what works, cut out what doesn't.
I never accussed you or anyone of whining. I obviously am reading your posts, and I've explained why I was under the wrong impression about the tax credit (which you first mentioned in the future tense, when the expiration occurred in the past, adding to why I missed this initially). Unlike many others, I come here looking for respectful discussion, and I take the time to explain my points clearly. Silly of me I suppose.
Good day.
And yet the republicans picked up more governorships and control most of the statehouses in the country. The states doing the best fiscally are mostly republican-controlled.... Interesting trend... It seems that people recognize that republicans are better at managing the local economies, but they have a hard time getting off the federal handouts....
Allen, if I had a child with mental issues, I might discuss guns or other weapons with his/her Shrink. As far as the childs' regular doctor, whether I have one gun locked in a closet, or 100of them lying around in the open, it's none of his business.
People seem to assume that because a person has a mental issue then they MUST be dangerous, and shouldn't be near a gun. That is so far from the truth.
Do you realize how many people in this country take meds for depression, stress, whatever that have no violent tendencies?
I agree that background checks should be done on EVERYONE who owns a gun, but I question the mental health check. I want to know who is going to determine who can/cannot own a gun. What are the parameters? If the person is actually a danger to himself or to the public, WHY are they walking the streets?
The young man who shot those people in CT had no record of any kind. That he had mental issues seems to be public knowledge, but did anyone consider him dangerous? Is there any record stating this?
hey did everyone see all the reruns of mr. Ed and get smart yesterday great stuff
As of Monday, Obama had been in office 986 days—or about 32 and a half months. During that time, the debt increased at an average pace of $4.27 billion per day. Were that rate to continue until Obama’s term ends on Jan. 20, 2013, the debt would then stand at about $16.86534 trillion—an increase of more than $6.2 trillion for Obama’s four years.

Nope, we live in an oligarchy and even your precious Obama takes his marching orders from the 1%
No NAZI Girl but I'm sure you're somebody's w h o r e.
It should be done fairly. The tax code should be audited (no pun intended) - in a qualitative AND quantative manner. Look at cost vs. benefit to the economy and impacts on real people. Don't just blindly remove all deductions, exemptions, and loopholes.Keep what works, cut out what doesn't.
Keeping what works and cutting what doesn't would be a matter of opinion of the folks going over the current laws. That's part of the reason we're on the slippery slope. That leaves it open to giving tax breaks to your friends (corporations) or those you pity (welfare). The only way to be fair and equal about it is to wipe the books, and start with a flat tax. Then everyone is equal. Whether it be a sales tax, an income tax, or whatever.
Unlike many others, I come here looking for respectful discussion, and I take the time to explain my points clearly. Silly of me I suppose.
Real silly of you ;) This is the interwebs where we're all anonononmous (something like that) and can judge each other as all sitting in our parent's basement while drinking dr. pepper and pretending we are all english majors and experts in policy and and and you get the point :)

Embolden? He ought to be beholden. He was elected to serve the WHOLE country, not just the 52% liberal electorate that elected him. And "the country is moving to center left"? More spin from the MSNBC knotheads. Somehow they conveniently forgot the recent statistics that showed that there are LESS democratic Senators, Representative and Governors in the country NOW than there were when Obama was first elected in 2008. So much for unbiased reporting, but then again that is the propoganda that all you libbies on this site hang you opinions upon. Maybe you guys ought to seek out other news sources so you can formulate a independent decision/conclusion rather than just being the sheeple you continue to be.

And yet the deficits keep GROWING as does the debt.
Be careful not to choke on your Kool-Aid, you're sloshing it down awfully quick.
John: Twist facts all you want but the fact of the matter is in 2003 tax revenues were $1.78 Trillion and 4 years AFTER the Bush Tax Cuts tax revenues were $2.57 Trillion. This comes from the Office of Management and Budget (White House website at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals).
End result is the argument that the Bush Tax Cuts COST tax revenue is simply not true. Tax revenue went up about $800 billion due to the economic growth (and the increased taxes paid) the Bush Tax Cuts created.
In 2007 Gvmt Spending was $2.73 Trillion and Tax Revenue was $2.57 Trillion. Less than $200 Billion deficit.
In 2012 Gvmt Spending was $3.80 Trillion and Tax Revenue was $2.47 Trillion (nearly the same Tax Revenue as compared to 2007 but Gvmt Spending increased nearly 40%).
Now you can twist and turn and make "what ifs" and "but" comments all day long but the above data proves two things. The Bush Tax Cuts did NOT reduce Tax Revenue and quite the opposite - Tax Revenues grew significantly the four years after the tax cuts took place. Secondly, Obama's claim we have a Tax Revenue problem is a flat out lie because just five years ago we had about the SAME tax revenue and with a more traditional gvmt spending was nearly a balanced budget. With the SAME tax revenue as 2007 our deficit should only be about $200 to $300 Billion. But it is over $1 Trillion. Why? Not because tax revenue is too low (it is the third highest tax revenue the U.S. has seen in history) but because gvmt spending increased nearly 40% in 5 years.
Now in fairness BOTH parties have spent like drunken sailors (although Obama is off the charts Bush did add to the debt too to a lesser extent) but NOT because tax revenue was too low rather because government doesn't know how to stop spending.
But what the actual government data shows very clearly is the Bush Tax Cuts actually brought in MORE tax revenue over a four year period so the argument the Bush Tax Cuts are the reason we increased our debt is a clear misstatement.

I DON'T believe Republicans work for the benefit of the American People AT ALL, and they proved it during the run up to the last Presidential Election when Mitt Robme and his supporters called HALF of the American People losers and the only "winners" were the wealthy, and Republicans prove it when they refuse to vote for a jobs bill for the American People, and Republicans prove it AGAIN when they use their power to continue to stall our Economic Recovery!
I'm beginning to believe Republicans entire agenda is based on some kind of domestic terrorism designed to continue to harm the American People which Republicans have disguised as Partisan Divide. Disagreements are one thing, but abusing the American People and holding us down because Republicans either don't like the color of the President of the United States' skin or because he's a Democrat are NOT excuseable reasons!
And yes, the American People certainly have benefitted from President Obama's policies, which Republicans simply hate to their very core.
Republicans will spend a billion dollars to build a school in Afghanistan, but can't stand the thought of having an education system in the United States, and then had the GALL to campaign AGAINST the Department of Education while running for President of the United States!
ProBusiness has made it a tradition to spew out outright lies and distorted statistics disguised as scholarly remarks in an effort to convince us all that he is a professor. Too bad for him, it's easy to look past the razzmatazz and fact-check his lies.
Seeing as Obama's presidency has not ended, the only reasonable way to interpret this conveniently vague assertion is that Obama's first presidential term has been the first in history during which real income fell. But OK, let's say you're evaluating entire presidencies and not just terms. Disregarding the blatantly unfair standard of comparing an ongoing presidency against entire ones, let's look at the numbers:
Inflation-adjusted median family income in 2000 was $54,841. In 2004, it was $52,788. In 2008, $52,546.
In other words, real income fell during BOTH of W.'s terms. That right there renders your point invalid. But let's continue on down the table and see which other presidents saw income fall:
In 1988, inflation-adjusted median family income was $49,737. In 1992, it was $48,117.
That's TWO presidents besides Obama under whose watch real incomes fell. And both Republicans. Note, also, that real income grew a lot during the Clinton presidency.
In 1972, inflation-adjusted median family income was $46,622. In 1976, it was $45,595.
The count goes up to THREE, ALL Republicans. Within the past 40 years.

Hard to believe people still listen to this clown.
John: and I LOVE how you are finding obscure website links that somehow twist data to meet your liking but I would rather look at the ACTUAL data and what data is more acceptable than from the Office of Management and Budget from the WHITE HOUSE website itself (http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals)?
Can't you look at actual data and see what the tax revenue and gvmt spending is year by year?
Can't you look at the actual data and see tax revenue went up 44% in four years AFTER the Bush Tax Cuts took effect?
Can't you see that in 2012 Obama had about the same tax revenue as 2007 but instead of spending $2.7 Trillion like 2007 he spent $3.8 Trillion in 2012?
That is NOT a tax revenue problem - that is a gvmt spending problem. All it takes is looking at the ACTUAL data from the governmental agency required to track that information (Office of Management and Budget) and see. Can you see it yet? Are you able to do basic math and confirm what I have told you above? Can you dispute my comments above by claiming my data received from the White House website itself is incorrect? I hope not because anybody with the IQ at least 10 points above a turnip can easily confirm my data.
Andres: I spew "outright lies and distorted statistics"? Really? From the White House website data itself?
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals
If my statistics are "distorted" then you MUST be saying the White House website is listing historical tables from the Office of Management and Budget incorrectly? You are calling the White House website "outright lies and distorted statistics"? REALLY?
Andres: I stated Obama is the FIRST president in U.S. history where the median income was LESS at the end of their first term than the beginning of the first term and you claim I state "outright lies and distorted statistics". There is an easy way to prove me wrong: go to the Census.gov website. Median income decreased about $2500 per household. Not "outright lies". Not "distorted statistics". Just the U.S. government data from the Census department.

Pro Business -- What you fail to realize or come to grips with is that under Bush, growth was not based on solid fundamentals. There was no real sustained growth. The country was running on nothing more than invented leverage based on falsehoods. In other words, no foundation existed. Numbers can be deceiving.
Which proves only that the economy grew. It does nothing to prove that the economy grew faster BECAUSE OF THE BUSH TAX CUTS. In fact I've presented evidence to the contrary which you've not chosen to refute, nor have you presented contradictory evidence of your own. Until you can show evidence that the economy GREW ENOUGH FASTER TO MORE THAN MAKE UP FOR THE LOSS OF REVENUE DUE TO LOWER RATES you're just lying. You can't show it because the evidence isn't out there, and that's been proven to you in the past. Every responsible economist knows that tax cuts only pay for themselves under very limited circumstances, circumstances that don't exist at this time.
American Girl is about as real an American as Beyonce singing the National Anthem yesterday.
Andres: I stated Obama is the FIRST president in U.S. history where the median income was LESS at the end of their first term than the beginning of the first term and you claim I state "outright lies and distorted statistics".
I said income. I said what a person makes. We are talking about people. We are talking about their income. Not adjusted to some arbitrary "comparable" year. No. How much was a person making at the beginning of the term and how much they were making at the end of the term. THAT is the number. THAT is income.
THAT is the statistic and the statistic found from the Census. And Obama is the ONLY president where a person was making less at the end of the presidents first term as compared to the beginning.
You see if liberals would actually look at data and not try to twist it and turn it to somehow fit their agenda it is actually easy to do. What was the median income at the beginning of the presidents term. Now compare to what the median income was the end of the term. Is it higher or lower. It is lower. It really is not much more complicated than that.
Dontcarry and John:
Again, typical liberal "twisting and turning". All I said (and confirmed) is tax revenue increased AFTER the Bush Tax Cuts. I constantly hear liberals claiming the Bush Tax Cuts caused tax revenues to decrease forcing us to borrow more debt. I simply proved that is NOT the case.
I never stated the growth was sustainable (it was not). I never claimed the CURRENT anemic growth is sustainable (it also is not since it is held up on borrowed government borrowing).
But THAT was not the question and is simply another liberal deflection from the truth. ALL I said is the tax revenue INCREASED significantly AFTER the Bush Tax Cuts. That is ALL I said and is proven by the data from the Office of Management and Budget.
The Bush Tax cuts did NOT create the increases in the debt and, if anything, the additional tax revenue allowed the debt to increase at a smaller pace.
Don't get me wrong: I can bash Bush just as easily as I can bash Obama (I am neither a registered Democrat OR Republican and can find serious fault in BOTH parties and state BOTH parties are responsible for the current Debt levels). But I don't like liberal untruths whether intentional or not.
So I will say again (and confirmed by Office of Management and Budget historical tables found on the White House website) that tax revenues INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY after the Bush Tax cuts.

Pro Business -- Why did tax revenues grow? You're suggesting it was tax cuts and I'm telling you revenue increased due to growth. Growth based on a leveraged foundation. Some revenue was captured through repatriation as well.
You cannot seem to understand the concept that increased growth produces increased tax revenue. Tax cuts do not increase tax revenue. Period.

Great. The Sun is very bright today and it's quite cold out. Apparently being very cold causes the Sun to be bright.
Correllation is not causality. NOTHING you have put up in any way suggests that the Bush tax cut "paid for itself, " which is the whole point of the discussion. All you've shown is that eventually, after several years tax revenues reached a level above thier level before the tax cut. The very fact that it was "eventually, several after several years" would suggest that the tax cut DID NOT achieve a sufficient level of stimulus to "pay for itself."
Incidentally, the OMB also states the tax cut INCREASED THE DEFICIT. As stated WAY up above;
So you want us to put implicit faith in the raw data as you presented, but totally discount the analysis of that data? That isn't just lying, it's also hypocritical.
Wait a minute, I thought the Bush tax cuts were good? Didn't our President say it was necessary to make permanent the middle class tax cuts? Our President said,
"I want to give everyone who makes $250,000.00 a year a tax cut. Opps.. I mean, $400,000.00. Those are good tax cuts. So now they're President Obama's tax cuts. Let's give credit where credit is due.Yes, Obama's tax cuts that resulted in a tax INCREASE to those making over $400,000/yr, thus increasing progressivity in the tax code.
That's something I favor...along with the majority of Americans.
Scofield is gettin spanked by American Girl.

Was shivering right out of my seat when ever she took a bite. OMG
Jay you sound like a bigot.
Don't carry: Try to stay focused. What I am saying is liberals have often said the Bush Tax Cuts REDUCED tax revenues and THAT is the reason for our debt. The data shows otherwise.
Are there other factors that allowed the economy to grow? Absolutely. Are the Bush Tax Cuts partly or totally the reason for the economic growth? Probably. The economy grows due to investment and if taxes decrease the cost of investment decreases too. THAT is always known as true and the debate is NOT if tax increases encourage investment (it does) the debate is whether the increased investment and increased economic growth offset the initial tax cuts. We see a tax cut and we see economic growth allowing an increase in Tax Revenue. It certainly didn't hurt tax revenues.
But what we DO know is that Tax Revenues grew by nearly 44% between the time the Bush Tax Cuts were initiated in 2003 and in 2007 when Tax Revenues were at their highest in history.
So the argument the tax cuts CAUSED the deficit and debt is flatly and clearly untrue.
The debt was caused by increased spending and even though tax revenue DID increase between 2003 and 2007 the debt continued to rise albeit at a slower pace. But those are two different things. We have tax revenues (think of that as "income") and we have government spending (think of that as "expenditures").
Income INCREASED between 2003 and 2007 so the argument that the Bush tax cuts DECREASED income to the government is clearly false.
This discussion is NOT about the economy. It is NOT about HOW the government is spending the money. It is NOT about sustainability of the economy whether it be Bush or Obama. This discussion is about one thing and one thing only: Did the Bush Tax Cuts DECREASE tax revenue between 2003 when the tax cuts were initiated and 2007. The answer is "No" and quite the opposite. Tax revenues increased nearly 45%.
If by changing the trajectory of American politics they mean destroying what was once a proud, hard-working country that had a defined culture and took pride in its accomplishments and its standing in the world, then I have no doubt that Hussein will be uber successful.

Q22 and PROBUISNESS
You both make Bush budgets sound so good. Q22 said " 168 Billion and shrinking" So explain to the rest of us why Republicans ADDED OVER 1 TRILLION to the National Debt in 2008 if the budget was only 168 Billion short? Or Half a Trillion in 2007?
From the end of the Clinton budget to the end of the Bush budget, 6.235 Trillion was added to our National Debt. N D was 5.674 Trillion as of 9/30/2000. We now have to borrow money to make payments on the money Bush borrowed. When the Bush Republican Congress passed UN-FUNDED LAWS they were not put on the books, not even as debt!
Actually, more like "Disgrace of the Demonizers."
Says the guy whose "beloved, sure-to-win" candidate demonized 47% of the nation as "takers" (both untrue and a REAL case of class warfare).
Not really; assuming that there will be no filibuster on the budget (mind you Republicans), I think Democrats could readily pass a budget. It may take a little stressing and negotiation, but I think we can manage. There would be an easy way to actually reduce the deficit; raise revenues via tax reform (not "dynamic economic growth"), trim entitlement costs via major healthcare reform (expanding on Obamacare), and short-term stimulus in order to return the economy to full employment and thus raise more revenue via more jobs. If only your conservative pals could find the cajones to compromise, we would have solved this problem AGES ago.
I don't see why the middle class shouldn't pay a little more in taxes. The Bush tax cuts, in my opinion, should have been eliminated, quite simply because they cost roughly $4 trillion over 10 years. We should have used that as the baseline for more deficit reduction, which would have mainly consisted of tax reform and trimming costs of entitlements via raising the payroll tax cap, chaining CPI, and other methods. And theoretically, we could easily tax the wealthy and solve the deficit. It would be a substantial tax hike of roughly 10-15% points, but it is feasible.
Probusiness, you fail to realize two things that are MAJOR factors in tax collection: economic growth, and inflation. Yes, I'll grant you that the economy grew under Bush (albeit at a pace that paled in comparison to other booms in recent history), but you seem to devote that ENTIRELY to the tax cuts, which I will disprove in a moment. Further, you fail to realize that inflation AUTOMATICALLY increases revenues in nominal dollars while DECREASING the amount in purchasing power, and in order to account for inflation we must compare revenues to GDP. And in doing so, we realize that there was a depressed curve under the Bush administration after the tax cuts were enacted, up until 2006-07, where it passed the historic 18% threshold. Unfortunately, what you (also) fail to realize is that 2006-07 was the peak of the housing bubble, which expanded ever so deftly under the Bush administration until it popped in 2007. The housing bubble artificially increased federal tax receipts (along with state and local revenues and total economic growth) via increased construction employment (and income/payrol tax receipts) and investment in real estate and related stocks and bonds, which was either taxed by the capital gains tax or taxed under corporate income for businesses related in real estate or real estate-derived financial instruments.
End result: the Bush tax cuts (along with government deregulation) created a housing and financial bubble that artificially increased revenues and economic growth, leading to a crisis that rivaled the Great Depression. And even with the artificial increase in revenues, many organizations (including the CBPP and the CTJ) estimate that the tax cuts cost between $1.7 trillion and $2.5 trillion from 2001 to 2010.
Mainly due to the housing bubble, which artificially increased revenues and decreased spending. The dot-com bubble did the same under Clinton.
This is just a load of bull@!$%#. You first fail to admit that revenues to GDP DECLINED under Bush (due to a slow economy and due to tax cuts). Then you fail to admit that the increase in NOMINAL (non-inflation adjusted) dollars was mostly because of inflation and the housing bubble. Then you fail to admit that spending is up because of high unemployment and a sluggish economy. And finally, you state the unforgivably ridiculous notion that we have a spending problem and ONLY a spending problem. Yes, spending is higher than it should be (mainly due to wars, unfunded Medicare mandates, an aging population, and an inefficient healthcare system), but revenues are also lower than they should be. If we are going to care for our seniors, stabilize and decrease our debt levels, and invest in our economy and in areas that spur economic growth (education, infrastructure, manufacturing, green energy, etc), we need a BALANCED proposal that cuts spending and raises taxes. We have passed both spending cuts AND tax increases, and now we need more of both (in the form of tax and entitlement reform) if we want to fix our fiscal and economic situation. You can have you own opinion on tax cuts, my dear ProBusiness, but you cannot have your own facts. And the past decade (and generation) of tax cuts, deregulation, and overall class warfare against the middle and low classes has revealed the destructive results of "free market" Reaganomics and the ignorance (or malevolence) of its disciples and promoters, including your beloved Ronald Reagan.
These 2012 comments by Porter Stanberry, in an analysis where he (correctly) predicted Obama's re-election, primarily regarding the coming fossil fuels boom in the U.S. are interesting, in that it may offer a preview of Obama's next 4 years and beyond. The U.S. is currently projected to become the world's largest oil producer by 2017. It will be the world's largest exporter of natural gas (by far) by 2015. Rather than stop these developments, Obama is predicted to allow them, but tax the hell of the revenues, in the form of various regulatory fees (which will be enacted to appease environmental interests). The resulting government revenue stream will finance a new plethora of social programs (similar to what's happened in Venezuela and Norway in recent years), aimed at keeping the mass voter base appeased. To quote an excerpt fr/the analysis:
...one thing is certain: Having this much oil and natural gas will make his (Obama's) administration the most powerful America has ever seen. Who knows what he might do?
One thing we're certain he will do is run for a third term…
Whether by changing the Constitution or more likely by simply running his wife, Michele, in his place we can't predict. We only know Obama will never give up the amount of power he will garner in his second term. Look at his entire career. Obama has never shied away from taking power… or taking credit. Like any good Chicago politician, he knows how to use influence. He will capitalize on this energy revolution to become the most powerful president in modern history. Like other energy-backed demagogues around the world (Putin, Chavez, the Kirstners in Argentina), he will not willingly give up his power.
He will use oil and natural gas to transform America into a modern petro-socialist state. And he will use oil to stay in power… for as long as possible…
These predictions might surprise you. But when this comes to pass, what will shock you is how millions of Americans will applaud these changes. Your neighbors don't want freedom. They don't want lower taxes. They don't want more opportunity.
You know what they want? More handouts.
They want their president telling other people what to do, all over the world… just because he'll create the illusion that he's helping them. Like with his cell phone giveaways and his mortgage reduction schemes, he'll continue to punish and tax those who work hard. Just like the Roosevelts (first Teddy and then FDR), he will excoriate and attack the people and the companies who have created the oil riches… just to win the public's approval. And then, he will use those same resources to buy favors and luxuries for millions of Americans… people who have done nothing to earn it. This will create more and more political dependence… more and more corruption… more and more socialism…. and the crowds will love him for it.
No one cheers more for a tyrant than those he enslaves. And so it will be in 2016, when the crowd will demand yet another Obama presidency.
These are changes that very few people understand… changes that are inevitable… and that are underway right now.
In some ways, these changes are unbelievably good. Investors, for example, who buy natural gas assets now, while prices are still incredibly low, will likely make an absolute fortune in the years to come.
But some of these changes are bad… very bad…. And they're very dangerous to people like me (and perhaps like you) who value their freedom, who value the tradition of limited government… who value the traditional American ethos of fair play and hard work.
There's nothing much I can do about the mad lust for power we're about to see unleashed in the White House. I can warn you about it, and that's about it. There's no way we can hope to outvote the masses… especially not when more Americans than ever before are already on the government dole and nearly half of America pay no income taxes at all.
The only way I can really help you is to show you how these massive economic changes are happening… and how to position yourself to profit from them.
While Stansberry is sometimes dismissed as a right-winger, he was critical of Bush policies, and regardless of his political persuasions, his successes have well outnumbered his missteps. (Look him up on Wiki.)
“We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.”
We have a lot of 'amateur scientists' that like to comment on the issue of 'Global Warming' (myself included), but let's take a look at the issue from a historical scientific/geologic perspective.
Below is a link to a scientific chart that shows both temperature and CO2 levels over the last 400,000 years, and if you look closely, you will see a remarkably close correlation between the level of atmospheric CO2 and average temperatures, so it appears that scientists who maintain that there is a close relationship between the level of CO2 in the atmosphere and average global temperatures are correct (Greenhouse Gas Theory).
But there is another interesting observation that should be made. If you look closely at the Chart, you will also notice that there seems to be a regular 'cycle' of extreme climactic conditions on a time scale of about 100,000 years for each cycle. During these cycles, we typically have a period of about 20,000 years during which temperature increases dramatically, reaches a 'peak', and then we have about a 20,000 period where the average temperature drops dramatically, followed by an 'Ice Age' that lasts about 60,000 years before a new 'cycle' begins.
We are apparently at the end of the current 20,000 year long increase in temperatures, and essentially at the 'peak' of temperatures where something consistently happens to cause a dramatic decline in temperatures. A few hundred years ago, we had the 'Little Ice Age' that lasted about 300 years, and tens of millions of people starved from poor crops and/or disease because of the cold climate. That period's devastating climate was 'mild' compared with the effects of a REAL 'Ice Age', which could cover New York City under 5,000 feet of ice.
We are now extremely concerned about 'Global Warming', and politicians are considering spending $Trillions on halting or reversing the warming trend, so the question needs to be asked;
“What if our efforts to reduce 'Global Warming' actually speeds up the beginning of a new 'Ice Age' that will take another 100,000 years to get back to where we currently are?”
If our efforts actually CAUSE the start of a new Ice Age, it would most likely result in Billions of lives lost to starvation and disease. We should be cautious about taking precipitous actions that, while well intentioned, might have devastating consequences. I welcome comments.

Freshieee "I don't see why the middle class shouldn't pay a little more in taxes. The Bush tax cuts, in my opinion, should have been eliminated, quite simply because they cost roughly $4 trillion over 10 years"
Wonder of wonders - We agree on something.
Look, this is really simple.
If we want to have all of these 'free' services from the government, then PAY FOR IT.
We are currently spending about $3.8 Trillion per year, and we are taking in about $2.7 Trillion per year, which leaves a Deficit of about $1.1 Trillion per year. If we want to keep spending at that level - THEN PAY FOR IT, and then the real cost of government will not be hidden with borrowed money - sending the bill to our children and grandchildren. It's GROSSLY UNFAIR to hide the real cost of current spending with 'Borrowed Money'. It doesn't work with our personal finances, and it doesn't work with the government (just ask Greece).
It will cost the average family of 4 about $14,000 per year in new taxes ($1,165 per month) to finance the current extra spending, but hey - if that's what you want, THEN PAY FOR IT.
It is really getting hateful and ugly on the Right. Is anybody paying any attention to the vile hate spewing from Obama the Yellowbelly and Todd Scofield on Newsvine?

China now holds $1.2+ Trillion of U.S. debt (and growing). At the current rate of growth, soon the interest the U.S. pays on that debt will cover China's entire annual military budget. U.S. taxpayers paying for China's military.
So, "jmj" write a comment that is absolutely racist, and the other teabaggers tell him he is a naughty boy. On the surface, I guess this would be admirable.
"bill in fairfax", however, writes:
Do any of the regular teabagers care? Does anyone mention to "bill" that introducing the imagery of a black man lynched into his whining, pathetic dissertation is grossly inappropriate? No.
This is why you teabaggers are not believed. It's OK with you to toy with the image of our President being lynched...as long as you don't use the "N" word.
We get it. You do not admonish "jmj" because he/she is a racist pig. You admonish him/her because your cat was let out of the bag and you have to do a little damage control.
Who is more disgusting? The honest, forthright racist, or "bill" - the one that will cry about the "race card" and yet write about lynching our President?
...and they wonder why the majority of the American public can't stand them.
Rob-523523 "China now holds $1.2+ Trillion of U.S. debt (and growing)."
Are you sure?
I heard recently that China has reduced (cashed in) about $200 Billion of their loans to us over the last year or so because they are concerned that our growing Debt will result in a devalued Dollar, thus undermining their 'investments' in government Debt. See Link;
http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/finance/2011/June/China-Reducing-Investment-in-US-Treasury/
I also heard that the Federal Reserve is 'creating' all of the current money needed to fund our Deficits because we don't have any REAL investors willing to loan the money - which will be highly inflationary in the near future. The M1 money supply has been increased close to double in the last 4 years - every responsible economist will tell you that it is INFLATIONARY.
Do any of the regular teabagers care? Does anyone mention to "bill" that introducing the imagery of a black man lynched into his whining, pathetic dissertation is grossly inappropriate? No.

Wow, the only thing worse than being racist is trying to find a reason to pull the race card. There is nothing racist about the term 'give him enough rope to hang himself'. I've used it through out my life and there was never any racist intentions (unless you think me, white, saying it about a friend who's white is racist)
Get the @!$%# over yourself you racist bigot!
(ooohhh that felt kinda good, is that what you liberals feel when you spit out those words? How orgasmic!!!!)
Stupid @!$%#s.
Really Alex? You resort to the KKK tactic of "reverse racism"? That is neither unique nor clever...but it does enlighten us as to who you are and where you receive your information and training.
Screw your race card and we've all heard the stupid rope analogy. If you are comfortable with the idea of the President, or any black man for that matter, poetically "twisting slowly in the wind" then you are sick and need psychological help.
Thank you for exposing what you truly are, "alex". The more we hear from your kind, the easier it is to prove what you are.
Joe: Typical liberal AGAIN deflecting from the facts of the discussion.
The discussion was whether the Bush Tax Cuts REDUCED tax revenue thus increasing the debt AND the Bush Tax Cuts (for the rich) were the REASON the debt increased.
I showed from data from the Office of Management and Budget (from the White House website itself) that after the Bush Tax Cuts took effect the tax revenue INCREASED nearly 45%. So the Bush Tax Cuts were NOT the reason for the debt increase.
Now if you want to have a discussion based on the WASTED spending by both the Bush administration AND the Obama administration I can easily have that discussion and they BOTH spent significantly more money than necessary to run the true functions of government.
But THAT was not the question. The question was whether the Bush Tax Cuts "caused" the increase in the debt and the facts clearly show that, if anything, the Bush Tax Cuts sparked economic growth which allowed tax revenue to actually INCREASE. And THAT you can't dispute.
All you can do is try to deflect to another topic that changes the topic away from something that proves that what liberals LOVE to say (that the Bush Tax Cuts lowered tax revenue) is actually false.
No "Pro", and your continued lies won't change the topic of the discussion. From the BEGINNING it was YOUR claim that the Bush tax cuts were so stimulative to the economy that the government pulled in more revenue than it would have otherwise, thus REDUCING THE DEFICIT.
You have been shown multiple analyses that the Bush tax cuts in fact INCREASED THE DEFICIT because tax revenues were lower than they would have been otherwise. You have produced NOTHING to prove the contrary, thus you oversimplify, deflect, and lie.
Wow you are pretty damn stupid. I guess black people are the only race that has ever been hung in our country? Reverse racism? KKK? How about all the white people that got hung in the old west. How about all the other races that have been hung around the world. Hell, what about Saddam H? Was he black? About the two iranian men that just got hung in Iran, were they black?
It's politically correct @!$%#s like you that think it's aaallllll about you. Guess what, blacks don't have the corner market on slavery, they don't have the corner market on being hung. Those thing have happened, and still happen, to all races around the world.
There is no reverse racism, there is no kkk, it's just simple logic. But I obviously can't expect you to understand that.
Also, you're the one that pulled the race card, not me. You're a lib though, and when it comes down to it, that's all you have.
The difference between Obama and Regan is pretty simple. Regan said government was the problem not the solution, and Obama feels more government is the solution. Obama is a president that wants to be king.
HELLO LIBERAL MODERATORS??
I'm trying to figure out why you're allowing these childish, angry liberals to collapse perfectly legitimate posts just because they don't agree with them (love the selective tolerance that is the foundation of hypocrisy)
Also, why are you not suspending every single person on here who uses the term "Tea-Bagger?" I'm assuming you're not so naive that you don't know that that's an insulting term with overt sexual overtones, correct.
Funny thing is, if those of us on the right are tea-baggers, that mean someone else is actually being tea-bagged. Any guesses on who those
liberalsindividuals might be? Hahahahahahaha!!Actually that isn't what Reagan said. Here is what Reagan said;
He understood that for some things government is the solution and for some things it isn't. Too bad today's ideologues aren't smart enough to get that.
http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/07/why-obama-is-right.html
Apparently dissenting opinion isn't acceptable at the klan rally.
Thank you, "alex" for defending the imagery of our President "twisting slowly in the wind" and using a defense that was created by the dwindling klan of the late 60's/early 70's. The more people like you reveal your true colors, the more educated the population becomes about the true motives of your "tea" party. You are either incapable of doing a minimal amount of research, or you are a complete racist. Which one is it, "alex"?
"bill" has the President poetically twisting in the wind and, well, there is that little comment from "jmj"...and "alex" accuses ME of playing the race card? Hysterical, hypocritical, deceitful and painfully obvious. What can one say but "tea" party.
(A little hint, "alex"...try not to wear your heart on your sleave - it was way to easy to get you to expose yourself)
I wish it was just as easy to get you to spell, punctuate and structure your sentences correctly, shockedanddisgusted. Your name perfectly describes how I feel when I read your sophomoric post.
We're all flawed, Shocked . . . some more than others apparently.
.
Feisty:
I see you've taken the time to post ALL the positive ideas and contributions of the right wing.
Liberals act as if stupidity is a virtue.
Poor fisty didn't get first post.
That cheap wine makes it hard to get up huh.
If that were true gringo, we'd have a higher opinion of you.
Speaking from experience... huh?
TMI dude... TMI...
Hey Feisty---has anyone heard where Eric Cantor, Newt Gingrich and their pals went last night to plot how they were going to ruin the President's second term? I will never get over that act of treason from 2009.
steeler, the act of treason is Obama himself.
Joe, go die in a hole and take your whole family with you.. Republicans are such animals, I wish they would self exterminate!
I Smell stinky, bjob 1, and hairy Amy....Lmao..Oh..And Outhouse... The slug in chief wasted more tax payers money yesterday..Had to bus in thousands of people who were not prepaired for the cold..Many had frost bite that we are now paying for!!!!
No kidding Frank, just animals. I like what you said because its a civil response.
Leanforward, they had to bus people in? LOL. You are pathetic. But just in case you didn't get the memo, President Obama received over 50% of the popular vote, not once but TWICE. Only three other people have done that in the past 100 years (FDR, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Reagan). He also received an overwhelming number of electoral votes, not once but TWICE. So, in summation, he clearly and decisively beat the VERY best YOUR side had to offer not once, but TWICE. We won. You lost. Get over it. And as a result of our winning and your losing we now run the show and call the shots, so sit down, shut up, and accept the fact that the AMERICAN PEOPLE have chosen our agenda and our vision for this nation. I must really suck to be a LOSER.
LeanForward - what you're smelling is yourself. And, dear, you're stinking up the place. Go take care of that will ya? Your lies are just pathetic but nothing we don't expect from you!
Frankie, please, where is all that phony liberal compassion douche bag. I wish you liberals were banned from breeding. you are a cancer to this country.
joe - clearly you're deflecting again as well all know it is the Republicans who are trying their best to destroy this great country. But don't worry, we won't let you!
Frank, kettle, meet pot. You ask for the death of another human. You are what is wrong with the left.
Too bad some of the ideals that are worthwhile from the left fall on deaf ears because of attitudes like your.
Peace, Myst
Empty brain, empty post.
Wouldn't you have prefer the term self abort? I guess in 2012 there is a civil way to want someone to die? I mean after the womb.
The employment of correct tactics, toward the greater strategy of the destruction of the republican party must now become the first priority of the President and the democrats. Limp wristed and faint of heart politics, so often the mantra of the democrats during the last 4 years, in the name of bipartisanship, just won't cut it anymore. This can be accomplished through the efforts of gun control, comprehensive immigration reform, and broad, effective fiscal policy. Republicans will revert to their most extreme elements on these issues, and the President needs to make 'em do so. All Americans need to see and smell, up close, the unflushed matter upon which today's republicanism doles to them, and the shoddy basis of their political dogma. Once this occurs, that POS party will be relegated to Its rightful place. A party of bigotry, fear, ignorance, and general assbackwardness for the common people, and teat sucking plutocrats for the wealthy, representative only, of and by, the diminishing few who embrace such claptrap.
Steeler Fan,
Last I saw of them, they were sneaking into the Grover Norquist suite @ the No-Tell Motel...
MysticMyst I never asked for the death of another human. Republicans are not human, they are animals that mimic the behavior of humans. Just because you put people clothes on an animal doesn't make it human.
Joe I never claimed to be compassionate, I am for humans, I am not an animal lover though and hence I have no compassion for Republicans.
How do you know which room?.... Well it's the only one without a tax, that's how!
That's right.... he's a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER that gets his way through protest, intimidation & threats.... the Chicago way....... a leader would have used the last four years to bring together ALL AMERICANS as one people.... a leader would not have driven deeper the divide between the "haves" and the "have nots"..... a leader would not have forced racial divides to the breaking points..... a leader would not have backdoored, bribed & arm-twisted legislation that effects every American for the next hundred years.....
A leader is NOT what Mr Obama has shown himself to be..... one day, the left will wake-up to his tactics, but by then, it will be too late...... America will be lost...... and his plan will be complete.....
Yeah, it's easy to call for unity and togetherness,,, as long as we all dance to his tune. Let's see, how does that go? Oh yeah, that's right. I don't submit a budget proposal that gets even one vote from my own party of senators, and then blame republicans,,, and all of the kool-aid drinkers buy it. Wow this propaganda sh-t works better than I expected. Ok now, let's see,,,,uh,, oh that's right, let's just give everybody a free cell phone and to hell with a job. That'll keep all of the retards satisfied and the wailing will drown out those can who actually think beyond the glittering blue beads and baubles that we give to the stupid sheep. Then they won't realize that they are out of work and can feel proud to be an American just like my wife. Next we can tax the crap our of everyone so that we can finance all of the overpaid/underworked government jobs and all of the special programs like green energy companies which fail on the taxpayers dime. Ok, we have to make sure that we continue to vilify anyone who doesn't agree with our extreme left agenda by labeling them as racist and wanting to kill grandma and take from the poor and give to the rich. Oh wait, that's right, everyone in this country saw the best tax rates accross the board for middle class families with Bush. Too bad so many have to be on welfare now. After all it was the liberal agenda that instituted regulations which promoted those who can't afford it to buy houses and forced lending institutions to allow it, even though good lending practices dictated otherwise, becoming the major contributor to the crash.
Yeah,,,, not ONE bit of substance. Nothing but fluff. It's easy to sit around and point fingers and call for all of us to fall in behind the great orator/pied piper, but I want to see something of substance.
Try submitting a budget that even the duly elected representatives of your own party from both house can vote on. After all, that is your job. How about you exhort your party compatriots to even pass some kind of a budget, and earn their taxpayer funded disgutingly bloated salaries.
How about all of you who are so enamored with this filth call for some bang for our buck. After all we the taxpayeres are paying for these thieves to be in washington while they do nothing but further their own agendas, and give handouts to keep those who suck off the tit quiet. This form of governing has been tried several times over several decades and it doesn't WORK. It has failed at every turn, but the idiots fo the world fall for it every time.
His speech sucked ass. Yeah, it had a lot of that fuzzy feel good crap, but no substance. He is a failure. And don't give me that majority crap either. Hitler carried a majority. Every duly elected official has carried the majority. The sad part about that is that just as often as not, they turned out to be piss poor leaders, bacause the majority do not have a clue. So, this great liar in chief in the whitehouse does not impress me at all with his majority rhetoric. A majority is not a mandate. It is typically a group of misled fools who wish to find a way to change their plight, and don't have the slightest clue how to do it , so they look to somebody who can scam them better than anyone else. Such has been the history of mankind. There are very few, if any altruistic individuals who are/or have been willing to stick their necks out as leaders. This isn't one of them either.
Sorry folks, I didn't vote for G.W., and I scorned all of the idiots who did. I didn't vote for this puke either and I ridicule all of you who did, because all of you are just too stupid to see the reality of what is going on. it just goes to prove that the people really don't know what is best for this country, or how to identify a threat when it is smiling in your faces.
Have no fear the messiah walks among you!! Keep drinking the koolaide just like they did in Russia in the twentys. Socialism works till you have spent everyone else s money. You voted for him, but your children will choke on his legacy. Count on it!!
In reading all of the comments on here about the dems vs. the republicans and all of that "crap", it has come to my attention that the majority don't have a clue, and just want to feel a part of some fraternity which mocks the others. I can only hope that some day the good folks of this country will wise up and demand better from ALL of our elected leaders, because none of them are doing the job we have elected them to do and that includes this lying sack in the whitehouse.
Contrarian001 - after reading your post I again understand how undereducated those on the far right really are. You should probably go back to 5th grade and try to work up from there! Good luck - you're going to need it!
sanity i have several degrees and have been to a few communist countries in my military career. obozo is a communist plain and simple. his goal is to destroy america. plain and simple.
OK 75th, howsabout you provide some proof?
FRANKIE, what you are is a poor pathetic pansy liberal who suffers from a brain disorder. And let's not forget , your'e just a POS.
Obama has ALREADY spent some of his "political capital", on returning the tax rates for the wealthy. I doubt he will have as much on the fiscal fight. He won't get to shred the military as much as the Republicans will shred the social safety net.
Frank, I have spoken to my animals. They are irate that you would liken them to a Republican. They claim that they are far superior to most Republicans they have the misfortune to encounter.
I'll take that bet.
Anyone who wishes death on anyone else because of the party affiliation is truly a disturbed person.
Here is where it all started, in June 2008. And then it continued and grew.

Are you kidding me with this filth?!
HELLO, MODERATORS??!! WHY IS FRANK STILL ON THIS FORUM? IS IT BECAUSE YOU, TOO, BELIEVE THAT REPUBLICANS ARE ANIMALS AND THEY SHOULD "GO DIE IN A HOLE?"
By the way, Frank, with the putrid platform of the liberals front-and-center right now, the entire human race is destined to self-exterminate eventually. Folsom Street Parade anyone?
What a bunch of confused, self-loathing, entitled, American-hating little people you are.

Whaaaaaat?
So much for Republicans being "pro-life", as it turns out, that was a lie too.
You haters on the right are going to be spending a pretty miserable four years if you don't calm down and accept the fact that Obama is President. There are meds that can mitigate the stress of all this hatred and classes for anger management.
TO: 75th who wrote:
How did you feel about George "Curveball" Bush's attack on the United States Economy, and how about the way Republicans are stalling our recovery?
Millions of people lost their homes, their jobs, their life savings, and more.
In your travels to all those "communist" counties, did you see any soup lines, because that's where the American People were headed until President Obama came along and lent the American People a hand who needed.
Republicans have been having a hate fest ever since.
Is that the methods you perfer, the Republican Economic policies that brought the United States and the American People to the 2nd Great Depression?
You're confused beyond belief, American Girl. Literally beyond belief.
Drink some more of that Kool-Aid, go find another gay friend you can flaunt to your coffee klatch, get back on those meds, and for God's sake make an effort to think past today and your personal wants and needs. You're not nearly as important as you seem to believe you are?
To those on the right: please annoy as many liberals as you can by working, succeeding and being happy. It confuses them and they get all irritable and start breaking out in hives because they don't understand any of it. Quite entertaining actually.
.
One of your better posts to date, Outhouse ! LOL !! Liberals rush to be first in line, try to "anchor" their spot with a period .... and make fools of themselves in the process !!!
It will be interesting to see if Obama and Harry Reid again "team up" to deny this country a BUDGET .... a budget that is REQUIRED BY LAW ! We are now $16.5 trillion in debt and rising rapidly ... only financially challenged liberals see that as a good thing !
5 people hurt in accidental shootings at gun shows in Ohio, Ind., and NC on day of US gun rallies
By Associated Press
MEDINA, Ohio — Accidental shootings at gun shows in North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio left five people injured Saturday, the same day that thousands of gun advocates gathered peacefully at state capitals around the U.S. to rally against stricter firearm limits.
At the Dixie Gun and Knife Show in Raleigh, a 12-gauge shotgun discharged as its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check at a security entrance, injuring three people, state Agriculture Department spokesman Brian Long said.
Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury
In Indianapolis, police said a 54-year-old man was injured when he inadvertently shot himself while leaving a gun show.
Emory L. Cozee was loading his .45-caliber semi-automatic when he shot himself in the hand as he was leaving the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife show at the state fairgrounds, state police said. Loaded personal weapons aren’t allowed inside the show.
Cozee, of Indianapolis, was hospitalized for treatment. Police say the shooting was accidental and no charges will be filed.
And in Ohio, a gun dealer in Medina was checking out a semi-automatic handgun he had bought Saturday when he accidentally pulled the trigger, injuring his friend, police said. The gun’s magazine had been removed from the firearm, but one round remained in the chamber, police said.
Police Chief Pat Berarducci said it appears the bullet ricocheted off the floor and struck the friend in the arm and leg. The man was taken by helicopter to a hospital 30 miles north in Cleveland, Berarducci said. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

And you’ll Yahoo’s think you should be allowed around Children. Hell you can’t even spend the afternoon at the Gun Show without blowing off a few bodily Parts or shooting yourself in the foot and ass and such like.
I personally think the Security Arrangements are the most hilarious part.
Didn’t you folks get the NRA Memo?
Why what would happen if a crowd of them Muslum Terrorist fellers in a crazed state of acquisition at the sight of all those guns tried to take over the Gun Show and start shooting up the place and all the “Good Guys” had to go to the parking lot to get their pea shooters. By the looks of things half of you would take yourself out of the action trying to load your weapon.
Careful there Sundance that thing might go off.
‘Course it does alleviate one reason that I’ve had for a while for not going to Gun Shows. See since the advent of Bubble Wrap I’ve been afraid that some of you Yahoo’s were going to step on some and the Old Redneck’s appointment with old St. Peter was going to be hastened by some of the rest of you Yahoo’s crossfire when you panicked and tried to take them out. Turns out that stupidly is a whole lot more prevalent than Bubble Wrap. I figger either way would be kinda hard to explain to Ol’ St. Pete
But I tell you what don’t make no sense a’tall. Why would you go to all the trouble to make a Gun Show into a Safe Place and then swear up and down that only a Gun can keep a School SAFE.
Reckon that one is even harder to explain to Ol’ St. Peter
IR, just this weekend one teen accidentally shot his brother with his Mother's gun.
Folks with guns in the home are 22 times more likely to shoot a resident/family member, than an intruder.
You just can't make this stuff up. All the time we are being preached to by the NRA and gun nuts everywhere, about how we need a gun to defend ourselves it is really from within we need to protect ourselves.
"we have met the enemy and he is us" Pogo.
Owning and using a gun should be like owning and driving a car. Regulate, training, register and license.
Simple!
Get with it IR, you gun hater, you. Doncha know, guns don't shoot people. Staunch second amendment supporters shoot staunch second amendment supporters.
You weren't describing gun shows, you were describing the regional semi-finals for the Darwin Awards.
IR - apparently you didn't get the memo. Guns don't kill or maim people - 'bad guys' with guns do. According to the NRA, the safest place on the planet is a gun show. I mean, what could possibly go wrong with a militia of well armed "good guy" gunners showcasing their wares?
Now, I have to learn you here .. accidental shootings are not a statistical factor in the gun violence debate because, well, they are accidents. Hardcore gunners have a special, built in sense, that detects an accidental discharge vs. an intentional discharge, hence, you would never have a bunch of yahoos start firing back when a bubble-wrapped yahoo shot him/herself in the face with their own weapon. It is that same sense that is used to detect friendly fire.
So, our children and their parents have nothing to worry about by having 2 or 3 thousand loaded guns at a school. The chance of being killed by gun violence, with all those good guys with guns and that super-duper detection skill, is zero. And if we only kill 5 or 10 kids a day under the guise of friendly fire, that is simply the price to pay for all that protection. After all, you are 20 times 40 divided by 8 plus 6 minus 12 times more likely to be killed in a ride to outer space in a shuttle, statistically speaking of course.
[5 people hurt in accidental shootings at gun shows in Ohio, Ind., and NC on day of US gun rallies]
...here's your sign...
David don't really have a problem if they choose to thin the Yahoo Herd with a little natural selection. Like I said I do have an aversion to explaining to 'Ol St. Pete how the occasion was accidental. Rather hold off a while and make sure that it's on purpose to explain myself. Given my heathen ways even that might not be enough.
I got my hand out!
He gonna put gas in my car!
I get me one of them "FREE" phones! whoa girl!!
Same with Friendly Fire RedDev. Way I look at it dead is dead and to all accounts is an incurable condition.
Speaking of incurable conditions looks like we've got a Clinical Trial the in Ol' Rockyroad. Careful you don't get run over there Rocky cause you look to stupid to get out your own way. Can you say Road Kill? I knew you could.
Give it a break will you. I those those guns went off all by themselves. Those were accidents, like getting a car accident and hurting someone. BTW I thought this post was about the the "Liberal's Messiah" and dancing in the streets.
Naw Smokes That was yesterday. I thought I'd give you a chance to spread your displeasure and ignorance in new and uncharted territory today. Tomorrow we might discus why ignorance in some folks may be an incurable condition
Cheers, IR. The bubble wrap scenario was perfect. Gun Appreciation Day turned out to be a warning that guns do injure and kill people because all too often, they're in the hands of yahoos who simply love the idea of tromping around with loaded guns, looking and acting the part of macho-fools.
IR good post. Over the weekend a 15 yr old in NM, shot and killed his parents, his 3 younger sisters, the youngest was just 2. Heartbreaking. Several guns were found in the rural home including an assault rifle, the suspect is in custody and no word what caused him to do that.
It seems to me, this aspect of keeping guns in the home needs to be addressed. Why are gun owners being so irresponsible in making it easy for them to be accessible to young men, who, for whatever reason, have the violent urge to kill family members and any others they deem dispensable.
This cant be a sudden eruption, there have to be signs of behavior that should serve as a warning that would give a parent reason to keep a lock on them. We have had too many cases of this happening, I feel they should be addressed in efforts to reduce gun violence.
Rocky Road, The free cell phone program was actually started bt GWB, and distributed by a program started by Ronald Reagan. You might want to do a little research before you post.
Jack - Rockyroad is too ignorant to do research - in fact he doesn't know what the word means.
IR - I had to chuckle that 5 people were shot at the gun show (only because I know no one was killed). And THESE are the people who should have guns, right????
Smokie452 - again with the "Messiah" stupidity. You know, of course, it is only the conservatives who refer to him that way. I do understand your holding him in such high esteem. After all, we've seen what you guys consider a candidate!
TIME runs a cover with POTUS on it under the banner of second coming and you think messiah is the conservative choice? That's funny, and you are obviously obtuse.
The only people gun owners have to be afraid of is themselves.
Rodd Star - your reading comprehension skills are clearly lacking as the Time cover said nothing like what you're posting. Have someone read it to you. I know any words of more than 4 letters are difficult for you to understand. Again only the far right refer to the President as the Messiah!
Jack-956313
Rocky could care less about facts.
He is here simply to repeat the talking points from Rush, Beck, and Drudge.
He is a parot for the low-information crowd.
Rocky has nothing to offer in the success of this country.

Rodd meant to say Newsweek. Please don't be so nasty, SeekingSanity. If you are so well informed and educated, you should have known already. Thanks, pal.
dirp, tell that to the folks in chicago, with all the black hoodlums shooting the place up. Too bad Odumbo can't fix his own races problems of gun violence?
See how IGNORANT you people are. You think an ACCIDENTAL discharge is something that everyone can see coming. Sure there are irresponsible people with guns and there are irresponsible people without GUNS. Try enforcing the laws on the BOOKS now, instead of making new ones that will NOT be enforced.
As for the kid that killed his family. I will bet he is or has been on some MIND DRUG. Without even reading or hearing anything about it, as I have been down with acute broncitis since Friday and have NOT been online to see any of the story till today, yet to have read anything about the shooting. So lets see what they tell us about the MIND DRUGS then we will have to see what laws they can pass to protect us from IDIOTS that will kill there own family members.
Dirp why are you retards on here posting DRIVEL anyway. Go get back on your meds before we read about you killing your family.
I see thomas the retard is back on here spewing his drivel.
Problem is, unlike a wet dream that simply spoils the sheets, an accidental discharge of a fire arm can be lethal. Oh, and most of us don't see accidental discharges coming. There is a reason we call them nocturnal emissions.
I went to a gun show this weekend. No "accidental" discharges there. Just people of like minds gathering. My wife bought a nice warming set for her neck, feet and hands. Nothing lethal about that. But I did sign the petition supporting the 2nd Amendment. However, I think the President's proposed ban on assault weapons is having an affect on the sale of them. The prices were up almost 100% from last year and sales were down, according to one of the vendors with whom I spoke.
Lots of sword sales. Samuri swords seem to be a hot item based on my limited observations. Saw more them leaving the show than guns. And the vendors seem to be more than last year's show. But that was based on my very limited time spent and observations.
But I did see an "accidental" auto wreck on the way home. I hope no one was hurt.
And IR, the show was in Virginia.
Well Think thanks for the update. I understand sales are up everywhere. Just goes to show that old adage a fool and his money are soon parted. As I say I don't go already got plenty of guns and gear so I'm well worn but comfortable. And then there's that whole Bubble wrap thing too. Just curious but have you ever had to talk to Distraught Parents of a young child that was killed in a automobile accident or by somebody misusing a weapon. I have in both cases and have a feeling that if you had been there you wouldn't take either one so lightly.
Oh, Seeking, I think "rockyroad" knows exactly what it means. Every time he wants to play with himself he has to stick his hand in his pants and...
...re-search.
View from the Northern Star and who knows, perhaps the Southern Cross as well
It matters little whether or not this President proves to be great. What does matter is that the American People proved themselves to be great. They did this by saying that it was not just about the economy, that it was about the changing mores of the country and that the Constitution must extend to all equally, that they stood as a new majority and said no to revisionism, that an individualism prospers not only him/herself but the nation as a whole when it strengthens the collective. They did this by reaffirming the hope of 2008 and bringing a long awaited end to Reaganism and what it had spiraled down to.
Conservatism is not dead, but the Republican Party, if it continues to fight for a concept of America that has moved beyond them, will find themselves in the Valley of Darkness fearing the long knives of each other. The question to be asked of the real 47% is, are you so entrenched in your stances that you are willing to become an ever shrinking number.
It is good to see America right itself on the Path to Greatness. Let's take a stroll.
BCWC: What a beautiful post and I think captures what is happening here in America right before our eyes.
As you said, the people voted for a man who they thought had the vision required/needed to move our nation forward. His words yesterday confirmed what we had hoped to be hearing as he begins his second administration.
Again, very nicely said BC.
BCWC, excellent post and beautifully said.
The 2012 election was about saying no to denying equal rights to all, about saying no to selfishness and greed, about saying no to overturning Roe v Wade, about saying no to going backward, about saying no to ending social security and medicare. And as you said, it was about finally saying no to Reagan's voo doo economics. MSNBC's best ad right now is Rachel Maddow who lists these things and more and saying we had a chance to say yes to those things but "we said NO."
Really good post bcwc....that was the message I got from the Inaugural Address, We the people, choose Barack Obama to start the process, but ultimately it is up to us....We The People.
It is the reason I am very excited that Organizing for America from his grassroots campaign support group, is now Organizing for Action, and will put the same efforts behind the Progressive Agenda including working to support Democratic candidates for all offices.
It was a good day in America yesterday.
Jody, Thanks for giving a shout out to Rachel Maddow's great ad.
I love it and with the great pictures illustrating it all so beautifully, says it all.
We The People!
Outstanding post BCWC. Simple, poetic, powerful.
BCWC - absolutely beautiful post! Thank you!
Great Post again BCWC.
Seeking, it is I who thank you ... all of you who remain young at heart as the mind and soul embrace wisdom. Now if you guys could just get rid of Homeland Security ... it is so burdensome traveling into the US with a British passport.
Awesome post, no vitriol or "gottcha" comments, just the truth. This country needs a viable two party system, but the GOP as let itself be taken over by a very small minority of teaparty types that threaten to make it like the Old South, Gone With the Wind...........
BCWC, I'll take a stroll with you anytime!
i am sorry but the concept of believing in god, hard work and personal responsibility are timeless and will never go out of style. you are all amazed at obama and his new ideas. sadly his new ideas are just failed ideas of communism. due to your dumbed down school educations and indoctrination you think these so called new ideas will work.
I believe in God, hard work, and personal responsibility...what's your point?
Just more pseudo intellectual drivel. Democrats are so proud about the supposed demise of the Republican party, while failing to understand the popularity ebbs and flows of political affiliation. Sure, being a Democrat is cool right now. Afterall, you got your first affirmative action president, meaning that his race, not his credentials earned his position. However, it will fade just as it always does. When it does, we can get back to business.
Being a Democrat has been cool in 3 of the last 4 electoral cycles. That's not a coincidence, that's a trend.
Thanks for putting your bigotry out there for all to see, too. "...you got your first affirmative action president."
He's a graduate of Ivy League schools and a constitutional law professor. Do you have better credentials?
Absolutely great inaugration yesterday. As usual President Obama was articulate, compassionate and on point in his speech.
The First lady was elegant and the children cute....what a great family to have in the WH for 4 more years.
I'm sure it's a swinging place.
We aint gotta work no more!
We aint gotta work no more!!
Get it girl friend!
Obama! Obama! Obama! Show me the MONEY!!!
I'm positive you didn't mean that in a monkey sort of way, but rather in a partner swapping way. I guess we should be pleased you find the President and/or First Lady so attractive.
We all get free stuff!! WOOT!!
Where my free Obama phone!!
I was told if I vote for him 28 times I get freebies!!
Rocky,
Act your age, and not like your party.
Funny where Conservatives claim a call to laziness I heard a call to action. I feel called to insist that we invest in our future. I feel called to demand that we put the failed ideology of the Ayn Rand disciples out to pasture in favor of proven mechanisms for economic fairness. I feel called to REQUIRE that my representatives work for equality for all.
That's going to be hard work. I'm ready.
Job1 - I believe Rocky is acting his age - I'd say he's about 5 and clearly got on Mom and Dad's computer when they weren't looking!
100 more days and then reality will finally take over! The true parasites in the democratic party will start moving in. Biden "the tool" already made his first move the other day. I wonder whose next?
i think i. am going to break out in projectile vomiting on that one dragon
Rockyroad - The 'Obama Phone' is not an idea, product or legislation of the Obama administration.
Is it anything like a Sousaphone? I like the sound of those, especially in an Oompah band...
They're heavy, though, which is why I never wanted to play one.
Please advise all camera people to stayaway from the eating functions. One more visual of Mrs Obama eating and I will have trouble eating gojng forward. Was she ever educated on table manners?
Jay were you ever educated?
Wonderful Day.Yesterday was an historic day for two reasons. The Public Inaugural Ceremonies fell on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. That has happened before and will likely happen again. It was historic this year also because it was the second Inauguration of the first African-American President--the final barrier of MLK's peaceful activism was finally shattered in 2008 and re-affirmed in 2012.
Too many conservatives honestly believed that the 2008 election of Barack Obama was a fluke, it could not be true; it was people casting a vote out of guilt, and many similar excuses heard from the right. The right simply did not want to believe that change had come to America because they prefer things as they used to be.
I have watched many Inaugural ceremonies for both republican and democratic presidents because our peaceful transition of power from one to the next is a testament to democracy. It is America's celebration, a reaffirmation that 1776 and the Constitution endure because every four years we celebrate our Government and we celebrate it peacefully.
Yesterday, President Obama, gave one of the most beautiful yet powerful Inaugural addresses I have ever heard. There have been other great inaugural addresses but his was one that will be discussed for generations as an historic speech. Its words were powerful because of its simplicity, its eloquence, its poetry. He connected our founding documents with today; reminded us of the values set forth by our forebears and that our Constitution as written by our founding fathers was imperfect because it did not include all people as equals despite the Declaration's words. Change and activism by our citizens who refused to accept their status as unequals, over time, made the words "that all men are created equal" more inclusive yet we have much further to travel before we are a perfect union.
President Obama's address was visionary as well as inclusive. It was not partisan as some will claim, but rather an eloquent reminder of this country's roots and its founding flaws, and why America became a great nation and why it will always and forever move forward toward that perfect union no matter how hard some try to stop change.....because eventually the truth plops itself squarely in front of even the most ardent objectors who finally catch a glimpse of themselves in the mirror and see the lies they hide behind.
Jody, sounds like you and Feisty both enjoyed your orgasm's watching the Obama's yesterday. What a bunch of bull sh#t the both of you spew from your pie holes.
Beautifully said Jody.
We are equal absolutely. Once that depth of that truth has been plumbed by someone, there is no going back.
It burns everything else to ashes.
Joe beautifully said!
Me and Backhouses loins are a flame with excitment.
There is no equal except for the artificial sweeter called equal.
Hey joe-2849984........
Guess whose "pie hole" this came from:
If only your prognostication skills were equal to your prevarication skills, your role here might amount to more than petulant sound and fury.
Forgot to mention Ryroad - as the sole, single exception in the history of humanity.
Now, if only RockyRoad would pull his head out of his ass long enough to quit slurping on his RockyRoad treats .. he might be able to quench that 'fire' down below.
Obama yesterday discarded that image of post-partisanship and instead called for action -- which was unmistakably on the liberal side. “Progress does not compel us to settle centuries-long debates about the role of government for all time, but it does require us to act in our time,” he said in his second inaugural address.
More than anything else, it was an unabashed defense of liberalism/progressivism.
______
Well said Jody.
Excited to hear Obama use the inaugural address to push topics usually left to the State of the Union. Good to see him confident to say he is willing to work on climate change, comp. immigration reform, gun reform. At Last!
Watched the ceremony loved the speakers, the music, the songs; the choir and entertainers moved me. Truely a happy day for americans except those right wing gripers
Thanks, Backhouse, RedDev.
As for the naybobbers with their one-liner mentality, their words speak volumes about their character--and it isn't pretty. Figure the less we feed them, the more ridiculous they look.
Jody, Your post is eloquently written and captures the spirit of the day.
Well done, you are so talented my friend.
Jody - you are right, it isn't pretty. I just couldn't help pointing out that the troll enjoys feeding upon him/herself. What I find interesting is the troll has Sheriff Tyler on his friend list. I always thought Sheriff Tyler had more class.
Thanks, Yellowdog. I enjoyed every minute of yesterday. Every performer, every song, every word, it was clear they were happy to be there and their joy was our joy.
Jody- beautifully said and so true!
GBM, Seeking Sanity, thank you. What I wrote is how I felt watching yesterday and hearing those words from our President; it was a great and perfect speech for today and all the tomorrows to come.
RedDev, sometimes it's necessary to feed them; it is also good sport to smack the trolls down now and then.
keep smoking the ghanja and drinking the kool aid
@ Jodi
Didn't you just love how powerful that rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was. Every network was just gushing that she was so incredible. Can we please have some more artists show up with their lip synching CD's. What a joke.
Terrific speech. Obama spelling out the progressive agenda. Many pundits were saying it can't all be done. The filibuster and the house in GOP hands. They are wrong. It can and will be done. It may take more than 4 years but the country is heading down the correct path. The demographics are in our favor. we have lived the dream of Ronald Reagan and it has been a train wreck. The 2014 mid-terms are critically important. We must regain control of the house. Go Obama. Hillary in 2016.
markinbecker, can't wait for a full blown socialist country can you?
Damyou- I agree, let them have all they want the taxpayers will regulate eventually.
Payroll tax: You do know that this deduction was enacted by President Obama in 2010 right? He wanted to keep it but because it goes to Social Security, the republicans did not, it is not over, the President is still fighting for it the next couple of months. Shame on them for comparing President Obama to Reagan in anyway, it is an Insult to the President, Reagan was a joke! We have this thing called Free Markets, Capitalism at its finest, and Corporate America has found at how to work it, we pay out the a** for everything we need to put the buck into the pockets of todays high paid CEO, and until they are forced to go off of Governemnt Welfare, it will continue, there was a day that companies made their money the honest way, which benefited the middle class, price competition was key, putting out a good product helped, the middle class once didn't get raped when buying a broom. Wages for the middle class kept up with inflation to a certain point, that too went away when Corporate Welfare became the norm! God Bless our President of the United States.
Joe, Damyou, Greg, - you guys sound like the bullys on the schoolyard who know they can't compete with anyone at any level so they stoop to name calling and trying to be tough. Yet they end up looking like the losers they are. Yep, that's you guys - to a tee!
martinbecker, well said. Just ignore the naybobs.
sorry jody but the obama demorat day of reckoning is coming. it happens every time and everywhere socialism is tried. had you gone to a real school and given a quality education instead of a socialist indoctrination you would understand that. how do i know ? as a retired soldier i have been to countries where the same thing was tried. i have seen many puppet dictators like obama and many fooled citizens like you.
@ Seeking
I didn't see any of those guys call anyone names on the post your commenting about. In fact, I read 3 times. Great reading comprehension
The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, 'merely a fool'. It is far less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President.
gringo: President Obama is President of the United States of America....and if you are a citizen of the US, he is your President also...whether you like it or not.
You can stomp your little feet and shake your little fist, it will accomplish nothing but make you look like a child having a temper tantrum.
Majority of American voters saw through the lies and greed of the GOP, thus re-election of President Obama and Dems gained seats in House and Senate.
A good example of fools was the GOP primary - a bunch of clowns many Repubs did not even want running for president.
GOP has fractured into so many pieces, they can't even get out of their own way.....a ship of fools.
Dragon, only liberal clowns like yourself and the mooches of this country got him re-elected.
Gringo likes spamming. The dolt can't even figure out the original author of the words written, so he has taken it upon him/herself to pretend he is the author of the drivel. Me thinks the nutcase is worthy of an advertising vote, except, I propose we leave it up to display the idiocy of the right wing nut jobs. Speaking of which, do these trolls get paid their shiny penny when they cut and paste other's words?
joe-2849984......you said:
Actually, right-wing extremists (such as yourself) played a significant role in the re-election of President Obama. You folks have nearly rendered the GOP impotent, irrelevant, and despised.
We (liberals) thank you sincerely. Please, keep it up.
Amen! Ready for the next election!
"Majority of American voters saw through the lies and greed of the GOP, thus re-election of President Obama and Dems gained seats in House and Senate.".
Pres. O has GWB to thank for his election. How do you say "Lesser of 2 evils"?
joe and Damyou - with every post you look more childish and like the poor losers you two are - in every sense of the word. You guys are the reason the Republican party is self destructing. Your ignorance and hatred have no place in civilized society! You two are to be pitied!
I guess your little heads will explode when Hillary is elected in 2016! LOL!
gringo you are so correct and austute. one only has to look at at thee failed rein of pol pot in cambodia to see the future of america
We don't necessarily need a serious proposal on climate change in the State of the Union Address. The Supreme Court has already ruled that the Clean Air Act fully authorizes the EPA to address Climate Change. What conservatives failed to realize is that "cap and trade" was a compromise proposal to reduce the power of the EPA over this issue. Since the right walked away from serious discussions on this issue. The EPA, in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, has started issuing regulations and conservative challenges to those new regulations have been found to be meritless by conservative judges. It would be nice to have bold solutions, but piecemeal regulations will work almost as well.
America has always been fundamentally about progress and moving ahead. The president's inaugural speech was all about that. Progress is the American way. Trying to stop the clock or return to the ways and means of a bygone era is inherently anti-American.
yes america is about real progress not the crap obozos peadling
Remember.
D = Drive forward
R = Reverse progress
Inauguration? Oh hell I missed it. Some folk have to get out and work to pay for their children's food, health care, ect. unlike the lazy no-goods laying around watching TV, smoking their ciggs and drinking their Bud. and waiting for their check to arrive in the mail. Oh thats right. I'm paying for that too. You'll be sorry when everyone is like you. Where will your check come from?
gringo: You do realize yesterday, MLK day, was a holiday for many Americans....don't you?
I too had to work yesterday as I work for an international company, but I am not whinning about it like you.
And I am not whinning about having to help my fellow Americans if they have fallen on hard times and need a helping hand.
Interesting that many of those you call "lazy no-goods" are in red states and need more federal aid than they contribute.
Dragon sounds angry that you question his Messiah.
Scary.
Dragon, news flash, 10 of the top 12 states that receive the most govt. assistance are blue states. Try looking it up.
Joe, wrong.
thecentristword.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/red-state-socialism.jpg
Ummmmm the Kock bros....
thinking, wrong, try again.
The truth is that many of the 47% that voted for Willard Romney, live in red states and many in the red states are the same ones that don't pay federal income taxes. However, everyone does pay some form of taxes, such as sales taxes.
If you do a little research you will also find that the majority of the increase in food stamps during President Obama's first term went to counties that vote overwhelmingly Republican.....
Joe - as usual, you don't have a clue. The red states receive the most government help - yet you still don't get any smarter. We're going to have to set higher standards for you guys because you just keep falling farther and farther behind!
Sometimes, facts just don't sink in. A majority of Republicans vote (and think) against their own, and our country's best interests.
#1 Washington DC - DEM
#2 Vermont - DEM
#3 Alaska - REP
#4 New York - DEM
#5 Mass - DEM
WOW 4 out of the top 5 are DEMORAT states that get the most FEDERAL AID.
Tells you what states can NOT manage there money. Always bleeding the rest of us for there own GREEDY people.
Thanks to the Huffington Post for this INFO.
steve-1962.......
Your numbers are spin. They are not NET FEDERAL REVENUE (difference between payments flowing to the Federal government FROM the state less money paid TO the state from the Federal government).
Those states that receive more FROM the Federal Government than they send TO the Federal Government are mostly, quite literally, (in the) RED STATES.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_taxation_and_spending_by_state#Table_of_Federal_Taxation_and_Spending_by_State
Here, you will learn that of the 19 states (territories and districts) that have a POSITIVE net contribution per capita, 11 are BLUE states and 8 are RED states (2 of these are only barely positive).....and.....of the 33 states that have a NEGATIVE net contribution per capita, 21 are RED states and (only) 9 are (fully) BLUE states (3 are mixed).
So, either you are seriously misinformed, or you are intentionally publishing falsehoods.
One additional thing steve-1962……..
Of the 26 (states, territories, districts) that went for Obama (blue) in 2012, 54% (14) have a POSITIVE Net Federal Revenue.
Of the 24 (states, territories, districts) that went for Romney (red) in 2012, only 21% have a POSITIVE Net Federal Revenue.
So, SEVENTY NINE PERCENT of Romney (red) (states, territories, districts) are net TAKERS.
Finally steve-1962.......
It may well be that you swallowed your (mis)information from an article such as this from FoxBusiness.com:
http://www.foxbusiness.com/government/2012/08/03/states-that-get-most-federal-money/
Be advised: Fox News (and other such purveyors of propaganda) fully INTENDS to mislead you. Of course, they do so with your complicity since you are not alert and/or energetic enough to realize they are presenting ONLY ONE SIDE of the story.
***EDITORIAL COMMENT***It is a statistical fact that fully 50% of our population has (by definition) an intelligence quotient (IQ) less than or equal to 100. Many of these folks are kind, honest, and well meaning. But, they are usually easily (mis)led. Articles (i.e. the one above) are aimed directly at those folks and their vulnerabilities. Alas, the admonition that "a sucker is born every minute" is, sadly, truth.
27 of the 32 states that take more than the give are red states.
14 of the 18 states that give more than they take are blue states.
Here is the chart with the numbers.

There is nothing "Reagan-like" about an anti-American excuse for a president.
jamie: Exactly how is President Obama "anti-American"?
You may be right, Obama isn't as tough on guns as Reagan was ("There's no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons" - Reagan, 1967). Obama hasn't tried to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, as Reagan did in 1986. He hasn't had 138 members of his staff investigated, indicted, or convicted like Reagan did during his years. And I doubt that Obama's successor will have to issue any pre-trial pardons as George H.W. Bush did for Casper Weinberger to keep the truth from coming out.
So yes, you're right...Obama is definitely not "Reagan-like." But there's hardly anything anti-American about that.
Aside from the fact both Reagan and Obama are deemed "likeable" (at least compared to Nixon and George W. Bush) they are worlds apart, in that Reagan was loyal to a Hollywood image of America, and President Obama is a leader for the real world.
Seventeen of Reagan's top officials were convicted of felonies. About the same number as in the Nixon administration. The republican are corrupt.
markin, please list Obama's criminals also.
Amy, "a leader for the world", you have really low standards, how pathetic
markinbecker is just making things up.
Notice the lack of any proof or links!
Lies like a Liberal : )
Reagan, nearly trippled the defecit, which was not to pay outstanding debts like today, it was all new spending, and the beginning of Reagan economics, (less revenue) 16% interest to finance a home, savings and loan crisis, raised taxes every year his last 3 to pay back the money he took during his presidency from Social Security, funded Al Queada as freedom fighters, stock market crash "87" need I say more!!!!!
Before the internet enabled this incarnation (joe-2849984) to hurl anonymous and senseless epithets, those before waited beneath small bridges with bated breath for opportunities to surprise assault passers-by.
Yet, joe-2849984 seems oblivious to his fated (modern troll) role. How foul must be the sins for which this sordid soul solicits daily humiliations?
Listen now for its next tirade. The malignant rage must be released lest it poison its grotesque possession.
The problem with your analogy VRT is that triple 500 billion is only 1.5 trillion. Oblamers is at 6 TRILLION and you think its the same thing as 1.5 trillion.
Look up Obama VS citibank. I bet NONE of you LIBTARDS will look it up as you are afraid to find out that DUMBA$$ Obama sued Citibank to give out loans to people that could NOT afford them. The start of the HOUSING & FINANCIAL Crisis. Thanks OBLAMER for NOT taking responsiblity for your OWN ACTIONS. You just prove how much of a FAILURE you truely are.
A claim long ago debunked, steve. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/09/04/daily-caller-tries-and-fails-to-read-legal-docu/189721
Now how about we talk about the responsibility of the House of Representatives to provide a responsible budget document instead?
Yes John why dont we, Would love to hear about the BUDGETS that the Demorats have put forth in the senate for the last 4 years. We all know the house passed one and sent it them for review and to amend and send back for ratifacation. Yet the DEMS seem to have forgot how to get it up for a vote. I think they are still on Harry's desk.
How do you amend a budget that destroys the social safety net, turns Social Security over to Wall Street, replaces Medicare with a voucher plan, and explodes the deficit through massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations? The budget also DOESN'T SET SPENDING LEVELS FOR INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMS, only sets targets for broad categories? This is a budget?
2/3 of the cuts in the budget would fall specifically on the poor.
The Senate sent their message...the House budget is a work of fiction that is beyond help. Send another one.
yep. what these young libertards dont know i lived. unemployment at 18 % interest rates for home loans at 18 to 20 high gas prices when you could find it . homelessness through the roof. all under jimmy carter. when reagan came into office america went back to work. union members bragged about voting for reagan.
75th........said:
Perhaps......until they realized Reagan had sold-out this nation to OPEC (and Big Oil) which, ironically, had been the cause of Jimmy Carter's economic woes.
Middle class disillusionment (with Reagan) was advanced when it was revealed that Reagan had been selling sophisticated weaponry to IRAN all while he publicly denounced them.
Like most Republicans, Reagan lacked a moral compass. Reagan's charade at having one (a moral compass) was much like his participation in WWII......merely an act.
You are completely ignorant of the cause of the 1980 recession, which was a short-term (but radical )tightening of currency by the Fed designed to wring stagflation from the economy. It was never destined to be a lengthy recession, and its end had nothing to do with Carter nor its end to do with Reagan.
I agree, Jody---a wonderful day yesterday and all the negativity from the right didn't spoil one minute of it for me. They are on the wrong side of history and it is too bad that they can't open their eyes and see that. For me, I'm proud as always of my support for this President and his agenda of.....yes, hope and change.
Dude, like most Obama supporters, you don't get it. "Hope and change" don't go together. Change means it's done, no need for hope, it's done. Hope means it isn't done, as in "I hope to do that". Clinton, Reagan, Kennedy, these guys never hoped for anything, they knew exactly what they were going to change, and they changed it. Republicans know that "hope" is code for "probably won't happen".
Many think that conservatism is dying.
Brain dead liberals think conservatism is dying.
Wait until reality bites the American people in the ass over the next 4 years of "Obamamaniacal".
True conservatism is not dying, but the republicon party most certainly is. You radical right wing nut jobs are dinosaurs.
Let's see, Obama beat ROmney by about 4% ... and loons think that is dying ! LOL !!
Yeah, you BOUGHT the Hispanic vote with that Executive Order "partial amnesty thingy".
Again, you bought the gay-lesbian vote by having Obama do an "about face" on his support of traditional marriage.
You didn't have to buy the black vote, since Obama is black.
You bought the vote of the poor through huge increases in food stamp distributions.
You didn't have to buy the vote of extremist left-wing blow jobs .... because birds of a feather stick together, and Obama is a large turkey !
Sorry libs, enjoy your giddiness for awhile .... at least until the reality of NO BUDGETS, NO PLAN and NO CLUE how to restore jobs leads the U.S. back into recession !!
You clowns will still be blaming Bush when 2016 rolls around and our country is $21.6 trillion in debt and our credit has been downgraded again.
Conservatives have been predicting that for almost 5 years now. When do we get to point out that being wrong consistency isn't better than admitting you were wrong?
Israel's supposed shift right is not what it appears to be. Netanyahu's certain re-election is more the result of a majority opposition, which is moderate, being in disarray and not pulling behind a single candidate.
It's a shame really since the hard-line taken by the current government cannot succeed in the long run. Some accomodation of the land aspirations and boundary disputes with the Palestinians must be forthcoming.
Why ? did Israel start the war ? did they invade the border ? for most of recorded history to the victor goes the spoils. Maybe if the Palestinians would give a little the Israeli's would , but until they at least recognize their right to exists then why should they ?
I am sick of hearing that Obama does not do enough to extend an olive branch to the Republicans in order to achieve compromise. Now his speech also is cause for complaint because these idiots use his unwillingness to kiss their asses as an excuse for lack of progress.
Republicans.... you have the House majority. It is the House job to come up with programs to answer the problems of the day. Put you damned program on the table and debate it. You guys sit and point fingers and make excuses and nothing gets done and than the next several months are spent pointing fingers and blaming.
I for one am damned tired of the excuses and blaming. Do YOUR FVing JOBS! For Once.
I love it. When progressives refuse to compromise they view it as standing firm on righteous and moral principals. When a conservative does it, they're just obstructionists.
Rob, the GOP will always and forever get a free ride by the media. It's on the record that President Obama reached across the aisle numerous times. And what did Speaker John Boehner do?
Refused to take his calls.
yabecoo - when you post an avitar that a child would be embarrassed to have it says you aren't worth anything. Damyou - you're on a par with an earthworm - except the earthworm clearly has more brains.
Pat - intelligent individuals know the GOP has obstructed everything President Obama has worked to do. It is useless to try to converse with children - like yabecco and Damyou - about adult topics. Don't waste your breath.
Seeking I see your point, yours is so fuzzy and warm, makes me want to VOMIT. Your as IGNORANT as your post. Have a nice day.
The intellegent people know that the republicans are trying to save our Grandchildrens from having to foot the bill for the IGNORANT LIBERAL SPENDING.
Cut spending and reduce the abuse of the programs the GOVERNMENT fails at, before asking for MORE money from US Taxpayers.
Oh really Pat,
And how exactly did Obama "reach across the isle" numerous times, and don't give it to me from some left wing media source. I would really like to see some legitamate documentation on Obama's openess in working with the conservative block.
steve - as usual you spout nothing but your Republican ignorance. So sad to have to wake up and be you each day isn't it? You and dr821 are the problem with the country. You are so filled with hatred you don't care about anything but your own biases and it shows how utterly foolish you two are!
hey sseking i think its time for your pill.
Speeking Insanity has no ability to see how the crushing National debt will be like an albatross around the necks of our children !
But then again, Speeking Insanity is unmarried and has no children .... she is far too emfatuated with her own self-appointed intellectual superiority to have time for someone other than herself.
Seeking, I'd give up on the chasing sanity. It's obvious you're too indoctrinated to come back.
Don't mind Seeking, she was cracking on someone elses avatar, and she didn't even realize it is a painting on an incredible album, that is one of the defining moments in progressive rock history. She doesn't care about history
What are all the star struck zombies on this vine going to watch now that the inauguration of the coolest president ever is over. I guess it's back to Honey Boo Boo and the Kardashians. They're not as cool as the president but I guess it will have to do. Being cool is so much more important than substance.
Spoken like a true nerd.
We can't all be a hipster like you Markin. You can go back to making a fashion statement with your skinny jeans and bowling shoes.
Spoken like a true nerd.
yabecoo-
You should check the Nielson ratingas and see who really watched shows like "The Kardashians" and "Honey Boo Boo".
Hint, it's not the Blue States that fuel the ratings.....
You seem like the type that would follow Nielsen ratings. Gotta stay cool. By the way, it's Nielsen.
What is: honey boo boo? Never heard of it before.
Hubris at best...
The teabaggers are out again today. They are reeling from the massive defeat they suffered last November when they thought they were going to win and, boom, they got their butts kicked. The more they complain, the happier I am. I have decided not to feed the trolls today.
It was enough to kick the king's. Oops, that's a bit of history the Left doesn't want to see repeated.
Damyou,
3% does maketh a butt kicking when our President is the only president since FDR to get the majority of the popular vote two times! Three hundred and thirty something electorial votes speakes volumes as well.
Not true, Lois but that may be irrelevant to you.
Maran8th8 - yes, Lois is correct. Your lying about it doesn't change the facts.
I see the FU CKED UP LIBERALS AT it again today.
When are these IGNORANT bastards going to shut the FU ck up. When will these IGNORANT LIBERALS figure out that if you BORROW more the debt will increase NOT decrease like OBLAMER keep telling them.
Just can NOT teach STUPID people anything they do NOT want to learn. Keep drinking the KOOL-aid you IGNORANT LIBERALS.
steve,
They will stop when Uncle Sam quits giving them a free ride. That day will come but we must all suffer through the pain of incompetance that currently gives our nations wealth away.
yep you got to be real ignorant to believe that welfare payments stimulate the economy. the next time i sell something to a libertard i am going to tell them they have to sign the contract so they can see whats in it
27 of the 32 states that take more than they give are red states.
14 of the 18 states that give more than they receive are blue states.
It is us hard working tax paying Democrats who are supporting you welfare queen republicons.

@SeekingSanity and Lois20721921: Sorry, SeekingSanity, just read your post. Lois missed Eisenhower and Reagan. GOD bless.
This idiots spending will be herald the end of America as we know it...
Keith, I doubt you have enough money to make that kind of difference.
Just what spending is that, please enlighten me! This country's current debts were approved by congress! again what spending do you call Obama's own?????
How about one of Obama's huge accomplishments... the ramming of Obamacare down our throats. That baby alone will prove to be a "tax" nightmare. But I guess it was his cronies in congress such as goofy Nancy Pelosi and her we'll just have to pass it to see what's in it. She must be Obama's sister as dumb as she is.
I have a daughter who makes good money in San Francisco but was unable to get health care insurance because she had asthma as a child. Now she has insurance. That is what ACA is all about, and it is saving you money.
The replies to this subject simply prove my point, obamas spending will herald the end of america as we've known it...
Idiots who would deflect, rather than acknowledge the 60% added to the national debt in just four years, and others who somehow think that the out of control rise in private health insurance premiums are good for the nation have very little understanding of how an economy functions. Their kind of like obama in that regard...
Government spending has grown more slowly under President Obama than under any pesident since Eisenhower. No matter what Fox tells you. No matter what Limbaugh tells you. No matter what the Washington Times tells you. No matter what Breitbart tells you. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-01-22/obama-channels-eisenhower-with-anemic-government-spending-growth.html
Gee, you'd almost think they were all lying to you.
Johnny,
I know many in the city aren't that bright, so i'll keep it simple 10 trillion in debt 4 years ago 16 trillion in debt today.
Spin however your little mind desires, the truth is there is a spending crisis in this nation. Those like yourself who continue to deny it are part of the problem...
No spin, reality. We don't have a SPENDING crisis, we have a BALANCE problem. Spending increases have been dramatically slowed, yet deficits continue...therefore the problem wasn't caused by the Obama Administration. In fact it originates in;
--30+ years of Republican tax cuts. Trickle down is a failure and so is corporate welfare.
--2 wars which, until Obama became President were funded through supplemental "emergency" measures rather than being put in the budget.
--A MASSIVE and unfunded Medicare Part D program that was passed by a Republican majority and signed by a Republican president.
So much for the myth that Republicans are good fiscal stewards. They've destroyed the budget so thoroughly it'll take many years to fix the damage.
Wal-Mart vs. The white house Morons
1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart Every hour of every day.
2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!
3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.
4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.
5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.
6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.
7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.
8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.
9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.
10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.
11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)
12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.
You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy.
This should be read and understood
by all Americans… Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!
To: President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature
It is now official that the majority of you are corrupt morons:
A.. The U.S.Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years
To get it right and it is broke.
B.. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it
Right and it is broke.
C.. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right
And it is broke.
D.. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right;
$1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the
Poor" and they only want more.
E.. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years
To get it right and they are broke.
F.. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right
And it is broke.
G.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence
On foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion
A year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right
And it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.
AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED
WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??
Folks, keep this circulating. It is very well stated Maybe it will end up in the e-mails of some of our "duly elected' (they never read anything) and their staff will clue them in on how Americans feel AND
I know what's wrong. We have lost our minds to "Political Correctness" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone please tell me what the HECK's wrong with all the people that run this country!!!!!!
We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????
In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile, and Turkey..And now Pakistan .......previous home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!
Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks…
AMERICA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without needed' meds, and mentally ill without treatment -etc,etc.
Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.
Sad isn't it?
Wouldn't shop at Walmart if were free!!!!
Uh, not as sad and sorry as your ludicrous post.
You neglected to mention that Wal Mart pays the vast majority of it's employees slave wages, cheats them out of overtime pay and denies most of them health care, preferring that the American taxpayer picks up the tab for their health coverage at the local emergency room. Is it any wonder that the Walton family, one of the wealthiest in the nation are staunch Republicans??? After all, it's all about the money, right?
I didn't say i liked walmart, just stated a fact. no mater how bad they are, they know to make a profit.
Actually, only idiots compare business to government. Government was never intended to be a profit generating institution. If it were, we would be at best, a socialist society or at worse, communist. Leave it to right wing extremists to rally against socialism, then turn right around and suggest we be a socialist society.
J - good for you...you don't need to shop there.
Ozzie - I didn't think that a slave actually got any wages. Therefore, any pay would be better than slave wages. And, I know Walmart is into a lot of areas, but since when do they provide health care...except pharmacy services. I didn't know that Walmart was not providing medical care services.
Bill, Fairfax VA Comment collapsed by the community
"So congratulations on your second inauguration, Mr. President. Enjoy the ride!"
Well said Pea-shooter!!! Now you and Nancy in Albany can enjoy that dance you've been circling around for so long!
Congratulations to both of you and much happiness!!
President Obama won reelection with 53% of the vote.
Also, "Wal-Mart vs. The white house Morons," Is an opinion and not a fact!!!
And as a side note: The majority of people have spoken. Also, Wal- Mart, employees get a large public assistance because Wal-Mart doesn't pay a living wage to many of their employees.
You dont seem to understand that they make this profit, and then turn around and foot the bill to you! They net profit around 16 billion a year, while you pay for the healthcare ect... of their workers, and they take advantage of every loophole that you only wish you had, and you are fine with this? It is everything that is wrong with America, I guess you are too!
The solution is really pretty simple. Impose a national sales tax equivalent to current income tax receipts and eliminate the income tax. This should make over $1 trillion/year difference:
1) $500 billion from underground economy will then be collected. Drug dealers, etc..They buy lots of stuff.
2) $?? billions from no longer having ability to file fraudulent tax returns like the inmates are doing.
3) $500 billion savings from tax compliance. IRS, CPAs Attorneys, Lobbyist, etc.. They will find more productive GDP growing activities.
Let's see if we can convince more Americans to work toward a solution rather than being part of the problem.
well put but there are too many libertards that arent smart enough to see this.
How about that Walmart pays so low that the employees are encouraged to get food stamps...
Is walmart forcing them to work there? Is walmart forcing them to not go get an education and do something better for themselves? No. And don't give me the worn out excuse that some people just cant. B.S.
I did it. I come from nothing, paid my own way, worked my but off while I had a kid and stayed married to the mother. Anyone who says that they can't actually means that they just won't.
We all need for Obama to have a good second term. Contrary to selling political philosophy if the current president is having a good term the country is doing well. The reverse is also true. However, second term presidents usually only have two years to do anything. Republicans will certainly try to shorten that. The only thing conservatives hate more than a failed democrat is a successful one that is well thought of by the people. They didn't invent that however, democrats feel the same way about conservatives.
The main reason that the right wing people and the Republican party will NEVER regain the white house is people see right through their lies. If you follow any of these blogs you will see that there is nothing that President Obama can do that will please these people. Educated people understand that all this is hated for the President. Everything he does is wrong?? Give me a break. The moderate American people need to stand up and take back the Republican party. The right wing extremist have destroy the party and unless they are kicked out to form their own party, the republican party is doomed. I did not like voting for the democrats but the far right gave me no choice.
Now I know I will get slammed for saying this and that is part of the problem. Unless you are in lock step with the far right you are wrong. Since when does a person not have the right to disagree without being vilified? As long as this continues the republican party will not get the independent and moderate vote.
When the independents and moderates come on these blogs and see the hated thrown out to anyone that disagree with the far right they are left with no choice but to vote for the left. And I am not exactly happy with the left but at least you can disagree and not get raked over the coals for that.
The far right stance on abortion, gun rights, health care, immigration, the U.S debt, voter rights is that there is no compromise to be found. It is their way or no way. How about working to find some middle ground? But not with the far right it is all or nothing.
Call me whatever you want to call me, but the facts remains the republican party will never recover until they learn that the American people will not blindly follow the far right. Many of my friends did not want to vote for the democrats but they were the best of two evils.
And lastly the independents and the moderates know the value of their votes. They will vote no matter what. Being called names will not stop us. I fought 22 years for my right to vote and I will do that. I will wade through all the B/S from both sides and still vote. So until the far right understands that there is nothing they can say or do that will stop the independents and moderates from voting they will continue to lose the major elections.
Now let the hate responses begin.
Semper Fi
Ret_Msgt- To a some extent I agree with your points however, as a whole your comment smacks of hypocrisy.
Semper Fi
The whole point of my comments are with the far right it is all or nothing. Just research what they do and call their own members. RINO comes to mind.
Semper Fi.
Bravo MstSgt! You are exactly right about the GOP. The day that the GOP began it's road to perdition is the day when one of the tea party types decided that the Old School Republican's (ie, the Northeaster GOP) was not conservative enough on social issues to suit their view of the new reglious GOP. How sad that this country no longer as two viable political parties from which to choose.
in other words because i am for people being responsible for their own actions i am a neanderthal? why should i have to pay for some slut who cannot keep her legs shut and has no idea of who the father is or the idiot who drops out of school. or the dip@!$%# who goes into debt to the tune of 85k to get a job that pays 25k. you libs prove my point daily.
You know 75th what really surprises me is that all of you people think that it is only your dollars that pay for stuff with government. Why should I pay for a Congress that cannot find common ground? Why should I paid for the tea party candidate that refuse to compromise? Why should these same congress people be allow to draw my tax dollars in retirement for life if they have failed to their jobs in Washington? You far right people prove my point every time one of you try's to address my points. You pick an choose only those that you think you have an argument for. Why not address all the points I made.
Ret MSgt
Sounds like the far leftists as well. I don't think you can pin it to just the tea party. There are obstructionists on both sides. I wouldn't belong to a political party if they offered me money. These 2 party's at this time in history are beyond the worst they have ever been. BOTH OF THEM!
51% is hardly massive but perhaps it is in a delusional world.
Still ranting I see. So tell me, how does it feel to lose and lose big???
51% is hardly big, Oswald. Perhaps it is to the low information voter such as yourself.
Ozzie, Obama was re-elected we all lost!!
yabecoo= It seems the 49% is going to be a problem or as the Left here sees it, a threat.
yabecoo- President Obama won with overr 51% of the vote - Romney got 47% - that's a little over 4% difference. I realize anything beyond 1+1 is outside of the level of acuity of any Republican but try to understand. But, it is funny that Romney garnered 47% of the vote! LOL serves him right!
The only thing threatened by the 47% of low-to-no information voters is themselves... And their off-spring. You even think of yourselves as a threat, which would be hilarious to even you if you bothered to actually know anything. Species on the verge of extinction seldom pose a threat to anything.
Reagan was never referred to as a "conservative kennedy", Kennedy was never called a "liberal Eisenhower", etc, etc. My point, when a leader is compared to another leader to capture their greatness, it means they have no greatness of their own. Seriously, is LeBron "the next Jordan", or Tiger Woods "the next Palmer", of course not, they are their own original. Obama clings to Clinton, uses the Lincoln bible, references Reagan, all signs of a leader wannabe. If he was a leader, he would make people forget about Clinton and Reagan.
As opposed to what Willard, the Draft Dodger would do??? Guess we'll never know fella. LOL
Which brings me to my next point about greatness...when someone is great, it's just known, nothing else is necessary. I'm old, I remember Clinton and Reagan, their supporters was just satisfied, period. With Obama, his supporters seem to go out of their way to tell me of his greatness, tell each other about his greatness, watch ginat celebrity celebrations about his greatness, Obama's greatness "throwing up" everywhere. "historic", "unpreceidented", etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.................
He can be bolder now because he has nothing to lose. Only issues will be pressure from within the democratic party.
JMJ- Comment collapsed by the community
There is a video out about yesterday..... "JMJ and his live Donkey act encounter tragic mishap in a desperate attempt to steal show"
On a lighter note, his Mom got that fluffer job she's been auditioning for all over town.
My personal guess is that racism is just one thing in his bucket list of "tendencies".
I would be more apt to call Clinton a "Liberal" Reagan. He was able to do what our current community leader seems unable to. He was able to work with the republican congress and house and with compromise on both sides actually accomplish something.
He was able to speak intelligently to the American people and have most supporting his views.
Today we are more divided by race and status than in any time in current history.
Ozzie, like Obozo who never served either? Just because there was no draft when he was 18 that doesn't mean he couldn't have joined up. Or like Clinton who ran away to college?
We can call Obama a failure and just leave it at that.
Yeah and that 51% is mainly made up of the lazy, fraudalent, "parasites" that suck the entitlement sytems dry. ODUMBO only won that percentage because he ENABLES that group and they sure don't want to give up on all the those handouts. There are still 47% of us who are honest, work hard and pay taxes. We will stop ODUMBO and his parasite followers.
I love that Conservatives continue to demonstrate their lack of commitment to the democratic process by insisting President Obama only won because "the wrong people voted."
