VIDEO: The Week Ahead: The hoax on you

Next week is highlighted by the Obama inauguration for a second term, plus the assault-weapons ban being introduced again, the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Secretary of State Clinton testifying on Benghazi, and Sen. John Kerry's (D-MA) hearings to replace her.

Plus, what can we believe anymore? What's real and what's not?

Actually, I used to have to play that damned song on an all-night top-40 program at one of those 1000-Watt AM stations back in the day (before they all found out guys like Hannity would pay their light bills to carry complete and total crap, as all the music lovers migrated to FM). But- the link brings back memories. Again, thanks a lot! (really)

Condi Rice declined a call by some conservatives to be even considered as VP candidate for Mitt, and in one speech to answer such rumors, she said that in 2012, history would be made in presidential politics. She is right - because of the re-election of Pres. Obama.

This weekend, there is the 2nd inaugural - History IS made. Thanks, Condi.

Workers' wages at an all-time low.

http://www.commondreams.org/further/2013/01/17

Despite endless, unseemly whining about the hardships they've suffered under Comrade Obama, U.S. corporations have seen profits soar 171% to their highest post-war levels - twice their peak under Reagan, and the highest growth rate since 1900, according to new analysis by Bloomberg. The flip side: As a share of the economy, corporate profits have never been higher, and workers' wages have never been lower. How much more data does there need to be for these idiots to stop complaining about the "anti-business" climate created by our own alleged Hitler/Mussolini/unnamed Muslim dictator? Listen up, oh great unwashed masses of martyred "job creators": Start creating jobs, or at least stop your damn, delusional, loathsome whining.

I went to the Obama Diary and looked through the photos of the President and I'm struck by one photo that shows the Prsident with the sleeves of his blue shirt rolled up, looking tired and stressed. I wonder why anyone wants the job of President of the United States.

In the very next thought I am so thankful that a man who has the integrity, the heart, the compassion and the soul our President does decided to serve. We are truly blessed to have such a great man lead our country.

Thank you Mr. President!

To reflect on President Obama's journal to his 2nd inaugural, I remember that during the 2008 campaign the junior Senator from Illinois was asked by one of his 2008 advisers about what to achieve in the presidential race (because amazingly this young man had already accomplished a lot - the first African American editor of Harvard Law Review, the junior senator from Illinois, the keynote speaker of 2004 Democratic national convention).

.

Candidate Obama of 2008 said he wanted to inspire all of us that we all can achieve our dreams. Obama wanted to run to convince all of us that we all can do it.

.

Thanks, President Obama, U R truly inspirational.

I'll toast to that! I've been watching the History Channel's series "The Ultimate Guide to the Presidents" and last nights segment had me riveted. It was on the beginning of the 20th century and basically featured 2 of our very finest POTUS' Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Roosevelt challenged the mega corporation robber barons and won and Wilson enacted some of the most sweeping legislation in our history. Oh, and he led us through the First World War and on to become the super power we are today. These men had vision and weren't afraid to take their opponents head on. Really, if you like this kind of stuff, I recommend it highly.

That's good news Dennis. UE6 (real unemployment) still stands at nearly 15%. Yay?

Why don't some of the leftist "geniuses" on this "influential" website start a petition on the people's pulpit (whitehouse.gov) and hint to the don'tunderstand@!$%#-in-chief a policy that will actually spur job growth.

Let's start with reducing the corporate tax rate to a worldwide low of 5%. Watch the jobs onshore.

Next, let's ask our most blovirious one to demand a reduction in the size of govt by 20% by the end of his second term of succeeding only in spending American's hard earned tax dollars on partying and terroristic governments.

40th anniversary of Roe v Wade? Are we going to have a cake with 54,559,615 candles that we can blow out to signify the snuffing of those babies lives?

    Breaking News

Fox News to Shut Down Monday Morning at 11:30

Fox News Channel announced today that it would shut down for what it called “routine maintenance” Monday morning at 11:30 E.T.

Fox News president Roger Ailes explained the timing of the shutdown, which will be the first in the history of the network: “We wanted to pick a time when we were positive nothing would be happening that our viewers would want to see.”

According to Mr. Ailes, for the twelve hours Fox News is off the air on Monday the network will broadcast a continuous photomontage of white people.

“Regular viewers of Fox probably won’t notice anything unusual,” he said. ☺

Layton, it has to do with a college football player @ Notre Dame who talked about his girlfriend dying a few hours after his grandmother had died. Turns out his girlfriend never existed. He met her on line, but evidently she was not who she said she was. Strange to have a girlfriend for 3 yrs and never meet in person, but it sounds like this is what happened.

The question now is - was he hoaxed or did he hoax us?

Lanse Armstrong wasn't who he appeared to be either, which now involves an awful lot of money he took, all the while cheating.

Ordinarily, I'm not one to complain about the media, but the ultimate shame about the Manti Te'o "girlfriend" hoax is that it got more coverage in the last 48 hours than the story of Elizabeth Seeberg, a freshman at St. Mary's College in South Bend, IN who reported to authorities in 2010 that she was sexually assaulted by a Notre Dame football player, ever received.

Ms. Seeberg's claims were never adequately investigated and 10 days after reporting the incident to authorities she was found dead of an apparent suicide.

Welcome to the Dew Drop Inn. You’ll come on in and take a load off. If you get to much of a load on the Old Caretaker and Newday will give you a Sleigh ride over to the Comeback Inn to sleep it off.

Of course we are jumping about feverishly trying to put the last things in place, making sure that we have the extra Barkeeps and making sure that we are getting the Tune Machine in good working order in order to assure all of a guests of a stellar Inaugural Weekend. Wish I could tag along but you’ll know the reason that I can’t so that’s that. But much has been made of the projection that attendance will be down a little this year. Before you believe all the Pundits for the reason I urge you’ll to read this.

Earl Smith is the man behind a military patch that President Obama prizes

    By Karen Tumulty

AUSTIN, Tex.— That February morning in 2008 found Barack Obama decidedly out of sorts.

He was locked in one battle with Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination that showed no signs of ending — and another with a vicious cold that felt the same way

As he rode the service elevator in the backway of a convention hotel here, the snowy-haired African American operating it turned suddenly. He held out a black-and-gold bit of fabric embroidered with a screaming eagle.

“Senator Obama, I have something I want to give you,” the man said. “I’ve carried this military patch with me every day for 40 years, and I want you to carry it, and itwill keep you safe in your journey.” Obama tried to refuse, but the older man persisted.

Big endeavors can find their meaning in small moments.

Later that day, Obama and his aides discussed the encounter. The future president pulled the patch from his pocket, along with about a dozen other items people had pressed upon him.

“This is why I do this,” he said.“Because people have their hopes and dreams about what we can do together.”

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/earl-smith-is-the-man-behind-a-military-patch-that-president-obama-prizes/2013/01/18/deec2444-5c13-11e2-beee-6e38f5215402_story.html?hpid=z2

See while attendance might be down a little bit many more like Earl Smith and I will be in attendance spiritually if not bodily.

I’m oft asked the geneses behind my support of a Presidency that at first glance wouldn’t include me in his natural constituency.

    It’s quite simple really.

This President more than most in recent memory seems to be able to take off the blinders of political expediency occasionally and try to simply do what is right and the price be damned.

And I’ll tell you’ll folks you’d sooner try to Sandpaper the Nose of a Tiger in a Telephone Booth as to try and take that away from me.

As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun celebrations to go to among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week

I wish I could go to the Inauguration but will be there in spirit. Of course I will be at the Dew Drop Inn for the festivities this weekend. First round of champagne is on me!!

Thanks to Mark, Domenico, Andy and the rest of the FR crew for your hard work to make this site such a great place to discuss politics.

Have a great weekend! Since the DDI's ready, it's time to head over for some good food, a little beverage and a lot of great conversation with old friends! A toast to President Obama on the evenings before the Inauguration; a toast to Martin Luther King whose tireless, peaceful activism helped make it possible.

Thanks for the glass of bubbly!

Jody, I will join you in the toast to President Obama.

Does anyone know where NBC/MSNBC will be having their otuside booths in DC.?

I definitely want to stop by and see these folks in person.

I am so pumped to be part of this historic occasion and see everything in person.

A little town in MN, Fergus Falls sent their HS band to DC to be in the parade. The mayor, and police chief and other town officials led their bus to the city limit for a big sendoff.

I will be playing Aaron Copland music while I pack this evening. Getting into spirit of the weekend.

I'm another who has never had a regret for working on his first campaign for supporting him and for working for him. I was happy to vote for him then and again this past November. We don't live in a perfect world, we are not perfect people and neither is President Obama but he makes me proud every time I look at him, whether it be at an event, giving a speech, comforting citizens who suffered some unimaginable losses or when he patiently gives a press conference and answers some inane or sometimes insolent questions.

I look forward to all the festivities in our nation's capital as we look forward to four more years of level headed leadership by a man who will always try to do what's fair and what's right.

Heading over to the DDI, the place where everybody knows your name, made some Bourbon Slush for those who like their whiskey with a little kick!

Thanks to Mark and Domenico and all the crew at FR and MSNBC for your efforts to keep the conversation going and us informed. Your efforts are appreciated...very much.

Caretaker IR, please throw another log on the fire and keep a few handy so we can keep warm. Thanks for your great story, look forward to a few more as we toast the President and his lovely First Lady..for a belated Happy Birthday.

Hey, gang, since the Dew Drop Inn has the most eclectic jukebox in the world, can I start off the pre-Inauguration party today with a little Mormon Tabernacle Choir? They're the only ones I've got who seem to actually know the words to "Hail To The Chief":

"Hail to the Chief we have chosen for the nation,
Hail to the Chief! We salute him, one and all.
Hail to the Chief, as we pledge cooperation
In proud fulfillment of a great, noble call.

Yours is the aim to make this grand country grander,
This you will do, that's our strong, firm belief.
Hail to the one we selected as commander,
Hail to the President! Hail to the Chief!"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwJvxY7uENM

Granted, our friends down the road at The Grumpy Troll Pub (it's real - look it up!) never heard the words either - at least not the part about "we pledge cooperation".

But hey, I've got Monday off and the car is gassed up and the alarm is set for Oh-Dark-Thirty and I've got film in the camera and I am so excited I can hardly see straight. Look for me on tv! The next four years are going to be awesome - and that is MY "strong firm belief"!

Besides, you're the lucky one with actual tickets; I'm just hoping to get a little closer than last time, when I was at the foot of the Washington Monument and could just about see the last of the jumbotron screens - forget the Capitol steps themselves. But you know what? I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I'm planning to be at the Metro station by about that time myself - I just have to get online and figure out which one. IR, I am bringing it down so you can put down that Jack and ginger. I am back home I did pretty well after the storm but know many that lost everything. I will gladly toast to everyone's health and happiness.

Well then you'll come on doowwwnn and we'll make it so. We'll drink the first one to health and happiness and then the second one for hoping that folks get the help that they need and after that you might be on your own. That Anejo hits hard and I ain't as young as I used to be. Might not be able to stand the pressure.

Now I'm looking forward to Floyd, Betty, and Northstar donning their best PeeWee Herman platforms and leading us in a good pool table dance of Tequila. Not to worry, IR, I'll keep track of your flashlight.

Here's why I love minor league and independent league baseball...

Late Thursday evening, an independent baseball team, the Florence (Ky.) Freedom, announced it would have "Manti Te'o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day."

As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans will get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids' area, as well as an air guitar contest.

Hey D Glad you dropped by anyway. Hope you get to feeling better soon but maybe a few shots and beers will help you out. Seems somebody is always willing to pee on somebody elses parade nowadays. Most of the time your better off just ignoring it because in ignoring it you show it for the irrevelancy that it is. But ever now and again you have to cut off thier Little Wee-Wees. Justaplumber I'm just curious. How much is somebody paying you to spread such ignorance. I mean somebody must be paying you because most folks don't reveal themselves as such Dumb-asses without compensation do they?Or were you just born ignorant and had a relapse to childhood.

    #15.4 - Sat Jan 19, 2013 10:04 AM EST

Geez, IR, I shudder to think somebody's actually paying good money for stuff like that. Even if it's only a penny a post, they're just throwing money down the drain instead of getting any return on their investment. I mean, how many moderates and Independents do you think justaplumber just lured over to the dark side with that little "King Obozo" gem upstairs?

P.S. to justaplumber - You really need to work on your self-esteem. Plumbers are heroes! Especially at 11:00pm on a Sunday night in January when the basement is flooding. Of course, if you were something REALLY embarassing, like let's say, "justacongressman", or "justaphiladelphiaeagle", or maybe "justanotherangrybloggerwithnothingworthwhiletoaddtothedebate", well then your lack of pride would be completely understandable.

Expect the worst in leadership from the Obama administration. He's already given us four years of misery & sloth, why should anything change in the next four "get used too it"

We as a country are merely wasting our time with another collectivist experiment. It always comes around because There are Many who believe in Utopia or "Heaven on Earth". '

Which is only a fantasy driven by free will and arrogance of persons unwilling to submit to a higher power. You see everybody wants to go to Heaven but nobody want's to die. So in turn Progressive, Collectivist's are willing to destroy the hard fought for Liberty we enjoy, too create through centralized Government... the............................ Me same as You. Paradise

, Where unicorns crap little nuggets of gold that slide down a rainbow into everyone's cereal bowl and we all dance around with flowers in our hair with no responsibilities or accountability for the future, or for just the feels good in the moment mentality. tra la la, It'll all be alright I've got a four leaf clover. b/s Yes, never mind reality, who needs it, it's a downer 4ward ----->rt

It really does not effect some who plan for the future correctly,or have the ability to mitigate loss, As I do.

However the Middle class are the ones who suffer the greatest damage to prosperity during these mad-scientist experiments the progressive lefties are mixing up in there test tubes. The poor & professional welfare recipients will do as they always do. Which is get by with less, the Wealthy will cruise along as usual, the Middle class will continue to see their hopes of advancing into the upwardly mobile "not rich but not struggling to make ends meet class" being dashed on the rocks of dispair and lack

Your right General for you? and correct I'm not speaking for everyone, and your situation is not representative of everyone.

Gdp is still pathetically indigent, no where near the level for prosperity across the board.

The employment situation is apathetic at best.

Division of the people is exasperated on racial lines & by class envy, fueled by hyperbolic poly-partisan vitriol.

The Executive & Congress departments of Government don't even attempt to address the issues important to the country's fiscal future. Merely bickering endlessly over side issues to d-sway from the real challenges we face nationally. .ie debt, deficit no budget in nearly 4 years. national security issues like securing he borders, lessening our dependence on international energy consortium's & taking steps to strengthening the domestic manufacturing base to help provide equitable employment here in America.

Putting America on welfare won't fuel the Economy like Nancy Pelosi claims. EVER
