"I don't pick the rooms we meet in.” -- Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) on the optics problem of holding a meeting about how the party can appeal to women and minorities in a room named after an 18th Century slave-holding family.
Walden heads up the committee responsible for electing Republicans to the House.

*facepalm*
just show respect...from the bottom of your heart. It (respect) should come naturally...don't fake it. I wonder if some Republicans are capable of such?
Remember we are one nation under god, not one nation under gop - the Todd Akins should not be allowed a seat at the table.
....and... a preposition is something you never end a sentence with!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
Snark meter on high!
I love the biased on NBC... Come on people! At least show the end of the quote!!!! "I know the Democrats have held their retreats here too and I assume you'll go and figure out if they ever held meetings in that same room." You can assume Mr. Walden (A republican in Oregon! I thought I was the only one!) but you know as well as I do NBC and other "news outlets" don't give a rats ass what the Democrats do. They just let them slide and try to uncover stories to bash the GOP more.
Todd Akin and Trent Lott are in charge of this GOP effort.
.
P.S. Trent Lott is a former senator from Lousiana and wished Strom Thurmond to win presidency in 1948
Do we need to explain irony to you Bob?
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
Just repeat over and over again, the pledge of allegiance, until the meaning sinks in...
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.
Those last three words are most important to all Americans...
Bob, please allow me to assist...
Had the conference been about early fund-raising strategies for the 2014 Congressional elections nobody would have noticed.
Actually, having planned events for large groups I can tell you that you absolutely DO get to pick the rooms you meet in or veto any you don't want to meet in. Just another Republican faux pas - is this surprising?
Well, Da Noid and Nurse:
Do you not find the irony in Mr. Obama selling the Mexican cartels 55,000 assault weapons and then losing track of them only to end up killing two Americans, and now he wants to ban Americans from owning them??? That's pretty ironic to me.
TO: Bob-2711464 who wrote:
I don't believe that NBC is lecturing at the retreat nor are holding it, but I can certainly understand why Republicans don't want to let anybody know that they have to summon ALL of the GOP and lecture them on how to get along with women and minorities.
What an embarassment that must be for Republicans, who, apparently never before now, have ever really gotten along with women OR minorities.
Want to appeal to most women? Don't talk about hardware stores.
If you don't talk about hardware stores too much, and as well don't rattle sabers too much, women will give money to you. Money wins elections. Mistakes lose elections.
In Ohio districts, as an example, 75% of Representatives elected are GOP. If half the money the DNC spent on Obama had been spent on congressional races in Ohio at least 3 additional Democrat representatives would have been elected which would have been a 6 vote swing in the House. In my view Obama still would have carried the presidential race in Ohio since districts where GOP congressional candidates won were districts where Obama lost anyway.
The DNC put too many eggs in the Obama basket.
The guns stance by Obama yesterday will anchor all GOP representatives to the Congress for years to come, and should cause growth of GOP representation in 2014. Bucking the Second Ammendment rights held dear by over 200 million proud, voting, American gun owners will be more galvanizing than even Obamacare in 2010.
Obama's gift to Republicans. Republicans can only blow it from here on in.
Tens of millions of proud voting American gun owners are women and minorities.
Chapter #8,159,274 of you can't make this @!$%# up NO matter how hard you try!
Not only dear and dumb but apparently blind as well...
Great optics there GOPERS! lmao
Next meeting scheduled is to discuss options to avoid igniting women's fury. It will be held in Salem, Mass, and the guest speaker will be Santorum, explaining he will continue to stoke his fire down below, until the fury of every woman is consumed. As if by magic, they believe women will flock to the GOP.
Sensitive to the optics-
You mean like the photo with Obama meeting with his top advisers, all male except for the leg of Valerie Jarrett? Oh and better yet, the next day tweeted a new photo with women in the pic.
Here comes Charlotte down from her web again... lol
thetotas - big difference. The President has had women in positions of authority since his first day in the White House - and will continue to. Republicans still can't wrap their heads around the fact that we don't just belong in the kitchen!
Some people have guns to only shoot themselves in the foot.
Its called gerrymandering. It has already been done. But come 2014 maybe enough is enough for moderate republicans and they will cross over and vote democrat.
New Official Republican Party Motto: "I'M WITH STUPID"
or - more fittingly - "I'M WITH StuPIG"
Sheesh, 'STUPID'S WITH ME' was working just fine. Why the change?
Oh let's just make it easy - new Republican Party Motto - We're Stupid!
No, no, Stupid -R- Us!!! Do ya think Toys r us will get mad??
DfromSpencer - OH I LOVE IT!!!! And, yes, Toys-R-Us WILL have a problem with it.
"I don't pick the rooms we meet in"----we understand that, Rep. Walden. But if I were coordinating such a meeting, I would have asked about the name of the room I was meeting in because I would be sensitive to the optics as well as the substance. Kind of like how they had that panel on birth control featuring 6 white guys. And kind of like how every House committee was being chaired by a white guy until it got out and they appointed a woman to the paper clip committee.
The name of the room is the least of the GOP's issues with these groups.
Kinda liking these Quotes of the Day, Domenico! Thanks!
It is a nice touch to end the posting day with ... some humour!
Why now, where were they 8 months ago? Where were they a year ago? Could it be that they know they got their butts whipped by the fairer sex and now feel they must attone for it? Those are real votes, to be taken seriously. This may just end up being too little too late.
They are holding this meeting in this particular room for a reason. They want the minorities to know, and always remember, that they, the GOP/TP are the masters, and always will be, and don't you forget it!!!!!
The GOP/TP will never "want" to pander to minorities, or women for that matter, they just don't like them!!! The GOP/TP men, still believe their wives are their personnal property!
GOP/TP, soon to be remembered as "The party of Hell NO, we don't work for the govment no more"!!!
OK, get a clue... the entire state of Virginia was named in honor of a monarch whose scorched earth policies in suppressing Ireland killed women and children, and caused a famine that starved tens of thousands. Virtually all the founding fathers owned slaves. WASHINGTON (as in DC) owned slaves. Note that city is home to the US Capitol, where Republicans and Democrats meet constantly. This is perhaps the stupidest thing I have read in recent memory.
The resort is the same one where Obama did debate prep last fall, and he or his minions were probably in the same room at some point. So, instead of trying to make something out of nothing, get a life already!
