House Republicans are discussing the prospect of a short-term extension in the nation's debt limit to avoid fault and give negotiations between lawmakers and the White House more time to succeed.
Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman and erstwhile GOP vice presidential candidate, told reporters at House Republicans' retreat that members were "discussing the virtue of a short term debt limit extension."
Ryan elaborated that the idea would be to raise the nation’s borrowing authority for a few months and tie the matter into discussions with the White House and Senate on the other fiscal issues facing the country, such as the automatic spending cuts associated with the sequester and how to fund the government in the next fiscal year.
The comment is a significant development because it suggests there is movement in the House GOP Conference to avoid the debt limit when it's scheduled to hit in February, and instead shift the political battle in their favor by transforming the debate into a fight over shutting down the government or offsetting $110 billion dollars in cuts to defense and domestic programs.
When asked by NBC News whether he believed the House GOP Conference was unified enough to not have a repeat of the fiscal cliff fiasco, when many Republican lawmakers were reluctant to support plans by the GOP leadership, Ryan said, “We want people to have clear view of what's coming so there are no surprises, that means setting expectations accordingly so we can move forward in a unified basis.”
Ryan spent the morning with House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., briefing members about the upcoming “triple threat” of fiscal issues to be played out in Washington over the late winter and spring. GOP aides tell NBC News the talks are part of an effort by the Republican leadership to gauge the mood of the conference as well as map out the best possible path for the party in the next few months, so far they consider the response from members to be "positive."
The retreat is the House GOP’s annual occasion for members to talk to leadership, relax with their spouses and kids and also learn from communication professionals about to contour their message to fit the electorate. In light of the drubbing the GOP received amongst women and minorities in the 2012 election, the retreat will feature a seminar titled: “Coalitions-Discussion on Successful Communication with Minorities and Women.”

Good, there are many important things that need to be worked on. This could get fixed soon, or could take weeks... glad they are seriously looking at a quick fix!
In the mean time, maybe there will be a budget proposed/approved as required by law....
There is no other choice.
Remember the GOP recaltrance summer 2011? Downgrade of US treasury notes for the first time since 1917.
Then GOP arse whacked in November 2014.
I hope the victims of such November (2012) whacking have learned a lesson - Paul Ryan is one of the victims. I can't believe he has learned something if we can take his word for it - to extend the debt limit instead of holding the nation hostage.
We will see if it will happen, if the GOP can kick their selfish habit of putting their party ahead of the nation.
Hear that sound?
The can is getting kicked down the road once again.
correction to #1.1
Remember the GOP
recaltrancerecalcitrance summer 2011?Short term meaning we are put thru this again in 2-3 months. So after arguing and debating for a month you expect us to start all over in a few weeks wasting even more of our limited Congressional time (not in session 70% of work days) and our even more limited tax dollars.
If they pass a short term extension our President should veto it.
Yes, please kick the can down the road. We would be in shock if they would actually do their job on time.
Since they are playing with some citizens only means of support IE; SS recipients and Veterans who depend on a small monthly stipend to survive, does this mean the Congress will give up their paychecks and perks if they fail to get something done? Hmmm... I think NOT!
Hello Feisty, Haggis, Silverton, RI Mom and to the rest of the crowd that cannot see that you are fighting a clarion call by the Administration to eliminate the 2nd Amendment. The reason our Administration is so concerned with an armed citizenry is because they know what is coming around the corner.
The battle of the century as Feisty puts it is not the gun debate but the debt bubble debate. Once people realize the extent and resultant inevitable collapse of our financial system their attention will be turned to reforming the financial system in a more equitable manner. There will be no place to hide regarding this situation and everyone will have to get involved. We aren't 16.3 Trillion in debt we are 222 Trillion in debt with no possibility of ever paying it off in the Fractional Reserve Banking system model. It's not going to be Armageddon or a Mad Max landscape but people awakening to the fact that we have been economic slaves and it doesn't have to be that way. It's an illusion, a means to keep you down trodden and controlled.
The booms and busts are manipulated by the banksters. It's not by accident or bad luck it's rigged and manipulated and creates the illusion of scarcity. Look at the 800 Trillion Libor Interest Rate Rigging scandal or the High Frequency Trading algorithms used to rig the Ponzi Stock Market. People are waking up to these manipulations and scandals and that's what worries the current Power Structure. A disarmed population is easier to manipulate.
The international banking elite with tacit approval from Democrats and Republicans has given the world the 1.4 Quadrillion in Derivatives Fraud, the HSBC and Wells Fargo Drug Laundering fraud, the MF Global fraud, the PFG fraud, the High Frequency trading pilfering and Stock Market fraud, the manipulation of the Precious Metals and Bond Market fraud, the MERS Mortgage fraud, nearly countless individual frauds from both Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, and the international 800 Trillion LIBOR interest rate fixing banking fraud, just to name but a few recent FRAUDS and breaches of Bankster credibility and trustworthiness.
The sheeple will call this paranoia, conspiracy or whatever adjective to keep their fragile sensibilities in a comatose state as ignorance is bliss compared to facing reality. What is abundantly clear is that there is a mass awakening; you can see it all across the globe. They are tired of the banksters and elite controlling their physical and economic environment and are fed up.
The Fiscal Cliff, the Debt Ceiling, the Trillion Dollar Deficits, the European Debt Crisis, those ships have all sailed long ago. They are simply reminders that under the current Federal Reserve System we are deemed insolvent. The system has collapsed not our planets ability to take care of humanity's needs. When people realize this they are going to be pissed off that's the main reason the Powers That Were are worried! They are afraid we will understand that we can zero out all the debt and take control of our currency and economic destinies. At the end of the day the Federal Reserve is a private corporation and their debts belong to them not us just like any other corporation.
Check out what our economics look like under the Federal Reserve's Fractional Reserve Banking System.

Regardless of the reason(s), I'm glad to see that the GOP is moving toward a rational solution to raising the debt limit.
My question however is why the wait?
Why can't they sit down like every other working American and get the job done?
Perhaps if Congress worked more days in a month they might get more accomplished.
Stop putting off to tomorrow what can be done today!
nomoresameo,
Neither party has a majority, so no party can just "sit down...and get the job done". Placing blame on only one party is just buying into the other parties political talking points.
It has been a while since I fought a clarion. Is the weapon of choice an M-16, a bazooka, or a simple anti-tank rocket launcher? Perhaps I'll go all out survivalist, and simply go nuclear.
No the weapon of choice is empty headed rhetoric RedDev, so you're well 'armed'
"Successful Communication with Minorities and Women." Once again the GOP thinks is all about how their message is communicated, as opposed to the substance of their policies. If one to select one word to define the current GOP it would be "shallow."
Holy cow, guy. Get a grip! The end of days is not upon us.
Here's a link to some educational material on how our monetary system works. The USA is not revenue constrained, and never will be, except for the stupidity of our politicians.
Well, what else can a SHORT-TERM congress do?
Myopic, no vision!
9 Ball,
Correct and is why we can never become Greece or go bankrupt

"...effort by the Republican leadership to gauge the mood of the conference as well as map out the best possible path for the party in the next few months, so far they consider the response from members to be "positive."
================
It really would be a wonderful day, if the future political discourse coming from the beltway media and the Party's themselves, both declared and truly meant that they would put more effort into figuring out what was the best possible path for the COUNTRY vs. the party...in the next few months.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, there really is NO SUCH THING AS SELF PRESERVATION for an elected official. Your jobs all have starts AND END DATES! President - 4 years, House members - 2 years, Senate members - 6 years, and Govs - 4 years.
If you are doing things 'now' as an elected official, in the name of self preservation, that means that you are NOT GIVING 100% of your effort to the job that you HAVE, for the sake of trying to secure a job that you do NOT HAVE.
I am tired of these people who feel the need base their legislative actions on self preservation first and doing what needs to be done 2nd.
I don't give a damn about your Party...don't give a damn about your political ambitions...don't give a damn about counting votes...don't give a damn about your special interest. I give a damn about writing legislation, debating it in Committee, moving it to the Floor, debating it on the Floor and voting up or down. That is what I give a damn about....NOT YOU LIVING OFF OF THE PUBLIC DIME ON SOME STUPID RETREAT, BURNING BRAIN CELLS ON '...what is good for your PARTY in the next 3 friggin months'!
TrustVerify - you really need to get a life because you are past delusional and into insane. Good friends with Donal Trump are ya?
Your ignorance is only overshadowed by your total eagerness to show it. You've posted the same nonsense for how many days? NO ONE is trying to take your idiotic guns!!!! But, if you need assault weapons you probably should be looked into!
Actually, Dennis, that depends on our politicians.
I find it incredible that people in such important positions have no idea how our monetary system works.
Hello 9 Ball, really, the US is not revenue constrained. Enlighten me by answering a simple question. How is money created? Take your time, you talk as if you know how it all works. I'm waiting!
When on earth are Republicans going to learn how to be straight with all of the American People instead of trying create deceptive language to confuse and fraustrate the American People on what Republicans' real intentions are?
The GOP just absolutely refuses to listen to the American People!
We are sick and tired of deceptive, incoherent rhetoric!
Just bring it straight out, in clear, plain language so that we will finally know what they want to do to us!
Don't tell me they're trying to find another way of saying: "Hey, we're going to rob you of your retirement money and your Medicare!!!"
Let's see, Paul Ryan, the man who can't tell time, is Chairman of the House Budget Committee? Is this REALLY the best the Republicans have???? Oh, right, it is! So sad!!!!
I've already done the research. Why don't you enlighten all of us, before you read the article. Let's see how smart you think you are.
9 Ball, my six year old could have done a cut and paste by now. You said:
"I find it incredible that people in such important positions have no idea how our monetary system works."
How is money created? You don't know, do you, so STFU.
Death by a thousand cuts.

Might I suggest NOT having as your main themes, "Self Deportation", "no female contraceptives", "Raping women is OK, so long as its legitimate rape," "Women do not have the right to control their own bodies," and particularly, "Women do not deserve to get paid as much as men, " just as starting points.
Okeeboy
I've been waiting for them to give up their evil gubernment sponsored health insurance but it don't look good.
A "short-term" fix from the GOP Party which claims uncertainty causes economic harm; this from the Party that raised the debt ceiling WITHOUT QUESTION multiple times FOR BUSH 43. If Ryan and his pals waste time passing a short-term, temporary crisis avoidance only to create another crisis in a few months, then they are not worthy to call Representatives--they are the ones creating economic uncertainty. What a bunch of short-sighted fools.
Increase the debt ceiling for at least one year and then focus on spending and deficit reduction in the sequester and spending legislation negotiations--they are separate issues. Ryan spent the money eagerly from 2001-2008, now Ryan prefers punishing the American people, our government and President Obama for the GOP failures. Ryan never met an UNFUNDED piece of legislation during the Bush years that he didn't vote YEA to pass.
Note to the media: ask these so-called republican deficit hawks, exactly what they plan to cut. To date, they rant about President Obama not proposing specific cuts (which he has) yet the GOP has yet to offer what they would cut. The GOP refuses to discuss defense spending cuts taking them off the table yet the defense budget is the most bloated budget of all.
Trust - I sense a lot of hostility in you. Have you been taking your meds?
9 Ball, just what I thought, a big mouth with not nary a pair to back them up. What you sense is someone with a BS barometer and it red lines when you post. Perhaps you should change your moniker to 8 Ball!
Read the article. It's much too long for me to cut and paste.
Suffuce to say, I read it.
They need to teach Republicans how to listen to the American People, instead of trying to teach Republicans how to say the same things all over again, but in a different way.
Let me understand this - the Republicans in Congress are taking a break from their last break? They need a retreat to rest up from doing nothing except being obstructionists for 4 years? Wow! These are pretty fragile little dimwits, aren't they?
This type of nonsense is the reason I am no longer registered Republican and no longer support the Republican party. They never follow through on the ideology they support. They talk about the fiscal cliff but then cave. They talk about fighting illegal immigration then cave. They talk about supporting 2nd amendment then will cave. And they talk about the seriousness of the debt - but will cave.
I believe liberals are a true danger to this country but I do give you liberals credit in that your party has an ideology and all support it. I think its wrong and the reason this current president is now the title holder of the WORST economic recovery in U.S. history - but I credit you liberals for standing firm on your principles.
Republicans are like the parents of a teenage girl and a low-life comes to pick her up on a Friday evening to take her out and the parents refuse. Then the daughter says "but I'M going out!!". And the parents say "well, okay but be home by 11:00pm". Then the daughter says "No, we are going away for the weekend" and the parents say "well be careful".
THAT is what the useless Republican Party now does!!
No spine. No standing up for principle. No explaining WHY the liberals are wrong. Republicans cave. Republicans "give in". The Republicans even APOLOGIZE!! Screw em......... I definitely don't have a use for Democrats but now I say the same about Republicans. What a useless bunch with absolutely no coconuts............
9 Ball that wasn't the question and voting for yourself pretty much sums it up, your a legend in your own mind, Wow!
If one has to attend a seminar that teaches one how to communicate with women and minorities, you might be a Conservative.
(Borrowed from Jeff Foxworthy, who I only like when he does his "you might be" jokes)
The only reason Ryan is suggesting a short term extension is he KNOWS Americans are sick of this game playing, and HIS party will ultimately be held responsible for the mess they are creating by NOT coming up with any solutions.
I can lead a horse to water. I can't make it drink.
And I don't vote for myself. Someone else must have liked what I had to say.
I'm sorry that no one votes for your jibberish.
AlaskaGirl - If one has to attend a seminar that teaches one how to communicate with women and minorities You're not going to retain what you learn anyway because if you are that far behind the times, you're hopeless! just sayin....
The House works 3 days per week for 2 weeks then takes a week off (and that doesn't count the extended holiday weeks and summer breaks they take) which means they spend about 9 days a month when there's no holiday working on the people's business. When they get serious about doing the job we elected them to do, then maybe we the people will be more tolerant of a week off every now and then. In my view, their pay should be reduced accordingly; work 9 days per month, get pay for 9 days. Right now, the House GOPers consist of a bunch of moochers, and lazy no goods living off the government--while ranting about the unemployed and the poor who dare ask for a hand up or food assistance just to eat.
AlaskaGirl-759554
that's too funny!
Bob-1585806 also came up with a funny list related to this joke - post #4.1
Isn't it kinda cute that Paul Ryan still believes he's relevant - in any way?
9 Ball, I usually don't do the research for those that were left behind, but I occasionally do volunteer work for the mentally handicapped so here you go.
First, nice job, you didn't vote for yourself this time, I'm proud of you son!
Debt is inherent and required in the Fractional Reserve Banking system. If we don't eliminate the Fed our debt will continue to grow exponentially hence constant debt ceiling debates.
When governments like ours and others who allow a mostly foreign entity to control their money supply, we give them ultimate control in not only our economic lives but everything that surrounds the use of "money". In our constitution in Article 1 Section 8 it allows us as a country to coin our own money. Why do we allow the banksters to print money out of thin air and then charge us interest on it? Once I researched how money was created I understood how and who really controls our country. Enclosed I have tried to put in laymen's terms how our government (or more accurately corporation, see the Act of 1871) has allowed the Federal Reserve to infiltrate our economy.
As Woodrow Wilson lamented of signing the Federal Reserve Act of 1913: "I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men".
"Money" is derived from debt. The U.S requests Federal Reserve notes (debt) from the Federal Reserve (which is neither federal nor a reserve) by giving paper Treasury Bonds (debt) to the Federal Reserve in exchange. As a result, a concept is agreed upon, debt for debt, not anything tangible is agreed upon. Monopoly money is then authorized (created but not minted, that is done by Federal mints) by a consortium of mostly European banksters with the Rothschild's at its head is also created out of thin air. Tack on Interest to that debt now owed to a foreign entity and you have a perfect storm for taking over and controlling economies and nations. The pool of debt money (exchange of Treasury Bonds for Federal Reserve notes) put in the system is now always there and can be replenished by borrowing more (exchanging more bonds for more notes) but the interest added to the debt is never put into the system and therefore can never be paid back. If there were no debts owed in our money system (money put in to the system and then paid back) there wouldn't be any "money", but because there is interest attached we will always have a negative balance by always having to borrow to pay the interest that is attached to every dollar borrowed. The interest is exponential and we can never break even again with the Federal Reserve and will always be in debt to them. "Money" isn't designed to represent the value of the goods and services in any economy, it is merely used as an exchange for the goods and services, it is designed to put you into debt. The concept of interest owed and attached to loans will always exceed the money in circulation. So the big pool of money owed is bigger than the pool we as laborers actually have to draw on to pay our bills. It's like musical chairs we are always competing for the small pool of money and there have to be winners and losers (bankruptcies, foreclosures, etc.) in this system. That's why inflation is a constant and new money is always needed to cover the interest. Interest (usury) is the bullet in the Federal Reserve's weapon of mass destruction. Without a country controlling and managing their own currency they are then relegated to economic slavery.
This doesn't explain the Fractional Reserve Banking System that is used by our local banks. They are also allowed to create money out of thin air. They are able to leverage what they have on reserve by a margin of 10 to 1. If they have 10,000 dollars on reserve they can create out of thin air 90,000 to lend. So if they lend 90,000 to someone and if they stick that in another bank now that bank can leverage that money 10 to 1 and so on and so forth. See the vicious cycle these banksters are perpetrating? All the while most of the profits filter up to the Rothschild's empire.
Banks, Central banks, World Bank, IMF, BIS = Federal Reserve = Debtor economies, Debtor Nations (economic slaves).
Now tell me this, how can anyone support a foreign entity controlling our countries currency, where is the autonomy and sovereignty in that?
AlaskaGirl, so true.
The GOP is wasting its money on a seminar to teach their caucus how to talk nicer and be more respectful to women and minorities because it will not change their policies and they will turn around and do the opposite at the first opportunity. What part of "it's about their anti-women, anti-gay, anti-minority policies, not how they speak" do they not understand?
TrustVerify, care to name the president who turned this country from a creditor nation to a debtor nation. Hint: it wasn't a democrat.
10: Reach debt ceiling.
20: Order sequester if things don't pan out.
30: Push back sequester.
40: Reach debt ceiling.
50: TOGO 20
Right now, the House GOPers consist of a bunch of moochers, and lazy no goods living off the government--while ranting about the unemployed and the poor who dare ask for a hand up or food assistance just to eat.
Well said Jody!
And I completely agree with you about their pay as well. Let them get paid for the days they work and we just might get out the mess were in.
Hello Jody, I named him above in my 1.43 post. What's worse is that our U.S. government has handed over the task of "centrally planning" our economy to the Federal Reserve. The Fed decides what the target rate of inflation should be, what the target rate of unemployment should be, what interest rates are going to be and what the size of the money supply is going to be. This is quite similar to the “central planning” that goes on in communist nations, but very few people in our government seem upset by this.
Your logic is flawed, and resides in old textbooks.
Here's a little snippet from the article I refered to:
You haven't been keeping up with more modern thinking. May I suggest you read some more current scholastic papers?
Here's another snippet:
Okay 9 Ball let's try this again, I wrote this one in crayon but this site doesn't have a matching font.
First, let me ask you another simple question where did you get your Masters Degree at?
Next time how about writing it in your own words, I see you need a cut and paste to express your vast knowledge.
"Money" has been created the same way for centuries by the same people.
Debt accumulation is the residual outcome of a Federal Reserve bank and anyone who gets involved or is forced to get involved with a Central Bank is indebted forever that's why they call it a debtor economy.
Simply stated if someone loans you two dollars to run your economy (and only the Fed and its subsidiaries can create "money") and expects three back for the loan and interest how are you going to pay the third back. You can't unless you borrow more dollars which puts you in perpetual debt and in a constant borrowing cycle to pay off the debt. This is designed not accidental.
Here's the kicker, once the Federal Reserve has you struggling to pay off your interest, they send in their loan sharks the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF will loan you money to cover your ever burdening interest payments but they attach a provision that if you default, you will have to give them your assets in what they call privatization (foreclosure).
Since the interest is exponential you will default and the banksters come in and foreclose on your country, like Greece. They are being told to sell off their own country to pay back the people who caused the mess to begin with. This allows the elite to steal your intrinsic valuable assets because they gave you paper (loans/debt) and the interest on the debt that is systematically impossible to pay back. This cancer goes all the way down the bankster food chain.
In our country we haven't reached this point but we are close. If the US Dollar wasn't the reserve currency and "petro dollar" for many nations our economy would have collapsed long ago. Every bubble that is artificially created has always burst and they are all artificially created. The housing bubble has burst and we are all feeling the consequences of that fact. Guess what's next? The debt bubble and the bond bubbles and they are going to make the housing bubble look like an overdue fine on a library book. We better reform our monetary system soon.
You are as transparent as glass. Keep up the cut and pastes!
Trust, I'm flattered that you think I have a Master's degree. Fact is, I never went to college. I'm just a business man with a plan.
But I do have a brain. And I've done a lot of research on many things. This particular topic became of interest when I saw a documentary that depicted the inevitable demise of the US dollar. So I spent many hours learning what I could.
There are doom and gloom stories everywhere. They're usually told by someone who has a vested interest in making you believe them.
Now, the flaw in your previous post: I didn't borrow two dollars. I earned them. Therefore, I have nothing to pay back.
9 Ball, I don't mean to pile on, but, really?
"Trust, I'm flattered that you think I have a Master's degree. Fact is, I never went to college"
"I didn't borrow two dollars. I earned them. Therefore, I have nothing to pay"
Like I said, your a legend in your own mind!
Funny how, again, this was NEVER an issue until a black man got elected. YES! I SAID IT! All you Obama Haters hate him for who he IS. NOT for anything he's done while in office. Your RWNJs lead you all to the trough and you drink up the kool aid they give you.
75 TIMES the Debt Ceiling was raised. 18 for your god Reagan. 7 for Dumbya! WE THE PEOPLE elected Obama as President. GET OVER IT!!
Trust
The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
You won't live to see the day the US goes belly-up ('cause it won't). But, everyday, you'll be expecting it.
Someday, you'll have to admit to yourself that you don't know it all. Then, maybe you'll learn something.
Congress spent the money, they must pay the bill.
Holding the economy hostage over the debt limit is irresponsible.
Then why is the President doing it and why did you vote for him?
I wouldn't trust the Party of No, American Taliban, on anything, anymore than I would trust a developmentally-delayed bassett hound not to sneak treats sitting out in the open.
RedDevPS: "Clarion" is the nickname of the French 5.56 FAMAS F1 rifle that is the main infantry weapon of the French army. Maybe you should use that rather than going nuclear. But then... the French haven't had a lot of success on the battlefield in a while, so maybe not.
No short term fixes. Cancel their long weekends and vacations until they come up with a viable plan that works for ALL the people not just their corporate buddies and the 1%, and why is anyone listening to that idiot Ryan.
Just more smoke being blown up our butts, time to let the GOP know, its the President's way now, the American people spoke loud and clear in the last election, and if it weren't for gerrymandering both Cantor and Bachman wouldn't be in congress right now.
9 Ball your right that I don't know it all, far from it, I learn everyday from a lot of posters who are way smarter then me. But I don't attack other bloggers and expect to be treated kindly in return. I expect an exchange of ideas in a civil manner. You know, the Golden Rule.
In terms of our country going belly up economically, the Fractional Reserve Banking System has gone belly up. We as a people are smarter then that and will reform the system once enough people get Fed up (pun intended). Click the link to see what I'm talking about. If that isn't belly up, I don't know what is. Our planet has plenty of resources to take care of all of us not just the few. It's the system that is flawed and it is obviously intentional. We can fix this!
www.usdebtclock.org
I hope that people like you and me can see who, what and why is behind our financial crisis and come together to fix it. I think we need to take back control of our currency as the first step. Change the "Federal Reserve Notes" to "United States Notes". We have to do something we will soon have no other choice.
The GOP should be ashamed of themselves... They have done everything in their power to stand in the way of President Obama... this is a disgrace to this country and to the way we run our republic...
Paul Ryan is a nobody and always will be... Hopefully in 2014 we can collectively vote these do-nothing idiots out of office and elect people that want to do a job not play games with peoples lives....
Why is it that we have this debt limit problem for the first time in our countries history? could it have anything to do with a president that most GOP wanted to make a one term president?
ScubaGolfJim, and Obama said raising the debt limit was a failure of leadership. Was he wrong or is he a liar?
Should the school children of America begin writing to Barack Obama to beg him to help get the economy going again and help their parents get much needed jobs for their families?
My support has nothing to do with liberal principles. It has everything to do with the fact that Obama's policies work and his opponents are who created the mess in the first place. Obama has indeed presided over the worst economic recovery in US history, but the abyss that he dragged us from did not just fall out of the sky. It was because conservatives policies didn't work.
This all sounds wonderful, till you realize that the Administration has weapons that make all of your guns look like peashooters.
As far as reality is concerned, the 2nd Amendment was already cancelled when it was declared that private citizens may not own nuclear weapons or aircraft carriers. The gun lobby wants you to believe that you might have a chance if you bought a bunch of guns. They are lying.
What protects you is, quite simply, the fact that Obama is true to his oath and intends to fight his best FOR America.
SHORT-TERM? Hell no, approve the damn thing LONG-TERM and let's move on to working on job creation, sensible gun safety, immigration, and really need to improve our schools with top tech, removing excessive vacation time, and enhanced PE.
Hey Republicans...Instead of this constant blocking of the President...let's try working with him for the good of the country and stop behaving like immature idiots. Try pretending he isn't black, get a little patriotism, forget the folks that bought you, and get to work earning your salary and forget what you were paid by the rich.
By only supporting the rich, you are bringing this country to it's knees and you were hired to serve this entire country, not be traitors blocking it's growth.
GOP caught lying with their pants down.
Didn't the GOPhers warn constantly that short term fixes left markets, business and people in turmoil from all that uncertainty.
Didn't the GOPhers say, now is the time to stop kicking the can down the road.
What the hell happened to change all that? Oh that's right the outcome of the 2012 election. Maybe something good can come from that election!
http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2013/01/17/what_are_republicans_learning_at_their_retreat_anyway.html
^ ^ LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At that strategy!! Are they serious?
On the other hand, I've heard Boehner, Cantor, and the rest of the crew are planning on electing Ryan as "their" shadow president.
I wonder which one's of the hypocrites will show their immaturity by not attending the Presidents Inauguration, like a large group of republican obstructionists did on January 20, 2009.
Ryan and his party have a short term memory of who won the election, extension on the debt limit is just kicking the can down the road, we don't need another down grade - the American people voted for President Obama and we want what the President wants - Not what the Republicans Want !!!
I think its more interesting that a group of people who claim to be fiscal conservatives don't want the previously agreed to cuts to spending to be implemented. I think its a great idea to cut military spending but of course the first thing house republicans did is try to introduce a bill to put the spending back up to their previous levels. Shows where their priorities are. Money for guns but not for retirees and the poor....
How incompetent and racially biased has today's news media become
With all the deaths of young blacks in Chicago, two more this week, 14 and 15 years old, why NO coverage and focus on these senseless deaths?
Why all the focus on Sandy Hook? It has to be a racially motivated press to ignore Chicago - sad
In a retreat??? They've been in retreat ever since they quit working for the citizens of America years ago now... Their only evidence of movement still floats boldly in America's punch bowl.
So what's the word from traitorous scum clubhouse? "We're considering as to whether it will be of personal benefit to us to check and see if we possess the cohesion to do a tiny little bit of the bigger job purely as a means of self promotion"
Oh... yeah... "And for the overall happiness and well being of our fabulously patriotic constitchencies"
...And they still find a minority group that would vote for them... It's fascinating, the way an ant farm is fascinating.
You people are incredible. The Democrats get on here and cheer for Obama. If he screws up they cheer louder (bold face and Caps as if they could turn up the volume). Then the republicans get on and call Obama whatever epithet they can think of. Then we get someone like TrustVerify. Although I do not always agree with him but on many occasions I do because he at least seems to reason without the political cheerleading. And to all of you who can't wait to vote out the Republicans, please think. We have an adversarial system for a reason. That way neither side can do whatever they please without fear of recrimination. Are you really ready to get rid of all the Republicans? What happens then? Nirvana or disaster. I doubt any of you are ready for that or have actually thought of it
Democrats claim the President has a mandate, he won by a majority of the people, it was a landslide. Nothing could be further from the truth. No democrat will ever admit it but Obama wom by less than 41.6% of the people. How did I get that? 20% of the people did not vote. So Obama won by 52% of the 80% who did vote. 52% of 80% equals 41.6% of 100%. But then not all americans are registered to vote. So his winning percentage goes down by even more. How low? I have no idea. I don't know how many people are not registered to vote.
The point is that you all scream about the other side but it is an empty premise. The house is controlled by Republicans, the Senate by democrats and neither side can get anything done the democrats are as much obstructionists as the Republicans but they won't admit that either. Perhaps it's time many of you grew up and contacted your representatives to get them to cooperate. Hmm, that might require a little effoert. Forget I suggested it and just go on with your cheerleading. It won't help but you will feel so much better.

“In the case of United States, default is absolutely impossible. All U.S. government debt is denominated in U.S. dollar assets.” Peter Zeihan, Vice President of Analysis for STRATFOR
“In the case of governments boasting monetary sovereignty and debt denominated in its own currency, like the United States (but also Japan and the UK), it is technically impossible to fall into debt default.” Erwan Mahe, European asset allocation and options strategies adviser
“There is never a risk of default for a sovereign nation that issues its own free-floating currency and where its debts are denominated in that currency.” Mike Norman, Chief Economist for John Thomas Financial
“There is no inherent limit on federal expenses and therefore on federal spending…When the U.S. government decides to spend fiat money, it adds to its banking reserve system and when it taxes or borrows (issues Treasury securities) it drains reserves from its banking system. These reserve operations are done solely to maintain the target Federal Funds rate.” Monty Agarwal , managing partner and chief investment officer of MA Managed Futures Fund
“As the sole manufacturer of dollars, whose debt is denominated in dollars, the U.S. government can never become insolvent, i.e., unable to pay its bills. In this sense, the government is not dependent on credit markets to remain operational.” Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
“A sovereign government can always make payments as they come due by crediting bank accounts — something recognized by Chairman Ben Bernanke when he said the Fed spends by marking up the size of the reserve accounts of banks.” L. Randall Wray, Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Senior Scholar at the Levy Economics Institute
It seems we've heard this before. Why would the republicans want to give us the economic certainty that the economy needs right now. Let's just let it fester a little longer. Business needs to know that Washington can, and will, pay its debt!
This is a great move by the GOP. Putting the Country first. Something the Demoncrats haven't done for the last 4 years. Extend it and force the other side to pass some legislation to cut the deficit before the next ceiling hits and get Obama's out of control spending slowed down a bit. Maybe Reid can pass a budget in the Senate. Forgive me for dreaming, That will NEVER happen.
[If they pass a short term extension our President should veto it.]
Dennis, I think this is what Ryan wants.
"trustverify"...you really need to stand up and pull out that thing that's up your rear. I think it is what you call your "BS meter".
I followed your stupid little link from your first post and saw one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. "trustverify", did you even try to investigate where this little group (posting a nice teabagger manifesto) gets their information?
I am so sick of "people" like you that come on here blathering their force fed crap and then post links (knowing that most won't bother to read you idiotic posts, let alone follow your link to some weird nazi site) as if you are a credible human being. Disgusting. How dare you even put the word "verify" in your name! Did you verify the validity of that little site? You know...go back to the 7th grade...see if they actually post where they get their information? Good luck on that one. You refer to the non-paranoid normal people as "sheeple" (a Rush Limbaugh term...what a surprise) and you can not even do a minimal amount of research into the information you are using to back your own stupid opinion!!
Shame on you and I pity a 6 year old being raised by such a devious, dishonest soul.
I use the term "nazi" when I am disgusted with morally fascist, dishonest, thoughtless propagandists. You, "trustverify" should do a huge amount of soul searching and a minimal amount of research before you spend even one more day with that poor, poor child.
It's LYIN RYAN........he has not revoked his pledge to Norquist on never raising taxes on the rich. LYIN RYAN never revoked his pledge of voting against anything good for Americain order to make President Obama look bad.
So you expect him to do anything good for America........DOH!!!!!! Think again!!!
Hello Tom, that is true if the world would adhere to the Bretton Woods agreement (US Dollar as the global reserve currency), but that is quickly changing. As we have witnessed with the creation of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and other countries as they are moving away from the dollar which includes the petro dollar. Japan and China are trading in their own currencies as is Russia and China. India and Iran are exchanging goods for Oil and trading in the Rupee and many other small countries are doing the same.
In a desperate attempt to keep our unsustainable financial system from collapsing, the Federal Reserve has decided to start printing unprecedented amounts of money. We are printing 85 billion dollars (40 billion QE3 and 45 billion Operation Twist III) a month to prop up our economy. This is all open ended. We are also keeping interest rates at near zero percent until 2015 penalizing savers but they are doing this to try and keep the bond market from crashing. If that doesn't concern you, how about the Trillion Dollar Coin test balloon that was sent up recently. You may want to view it as the canary in the coal mine that died quickly from desperation and schizophrenia. Our economy is in trouble and the debt ceiling fight isn't going to change the fact that our country is already insolvent.
Well, that's telling him!
Thanks, I was just trying to educate him. But some people will have none of it.
And to TrustVerify - it seems to me that you were doing most of the attacking. Re-read your posts. Also, I don't know where you're getting your info from, but it is not accurate. There is no money printing going on. These are all accounting entries. And they actually do not add to the deficit. Again, spend some time reading that article.
Ironically, the gop didn't even blink while raising the debt limit 17 times during the bush presidency. Holy smokes, the gop hypocrisy has no bounds!!!!
Tom,
Those quotes sound wonderful, but... No one ever thought Lehman Bros. would fail. No one ever thought a cultured nation like Germany would embrace Naziism. No one ever thought the stock market would collapse from 1929 to the horrible depths of July 1932.......And on it goes.....in history many things never "seemed possible" before they happened.
If Barack Obama keeps driving up our debt at the rate he is doing it, e.g., going from $10 Trillion to $16.5 Trillion in 4 years..... all the while causing public mood and opinion to become grossly negative enough toward the U.S. financial system......we could experience default as our dollars would be viewed as worthless. The value of those dollars has a lot to do with "perception" and "mood" in world markets.
I love it anytime a RW complains about how it is taking too long for Obama and the Democrats to fix one of the worst economies in American history...
But they will not acknowledge WHO got us in the position of having one of the worst economies in American history to begin with!
Why do people keep insisting the President is driving up the debt? Congress is the only ones that have the authority to spend. The President, under law, is only obligated to pay the bills Congress has authorized.
Hello @shockanddisgusted you traced my post back to a Nazi post? Prove it! It's called research and a college education.
Prove it, you traced it back right? You said: "Did you verify the validity of that little site?" What's the sites name or are you another 9 Ball. That's what I thought!
I'm waiting!
9BallPro: Did you actually check out the stupid site that posted the link to? There is absolutely nothing that "trustverify" can do now to prove that he/she/it is not a thoughtless, brainwashed propagandist.
Thanks for the support. I really think we need to start calling these nazi teabaggers on their crap.
"trustverify": Calling it a nazi site was my opinion. What about that stupid site even mentions that anyone involved has a college education (a nasty little slip of your own, there) or where thy even obtain their information. You should attempt to be a bit more than a worthless hack before you insult others.
Yeah, he is getting in deeper and deeper. A Faux News follower, I'm sure.
Hello Shockanddisgusted or should say 9 Ball, what debt number on this site is incorrect? Or are you and disinformation internet shill? I think the latter. You wouldn't know the truth if it hit you square upside the head. One thing about the truth is that internet shills like you have no legs to stand on.
www.usdebtclock.org
And oh by the way, I'm a political atheist, I don't care what political religion one wants to attach themselves too. We have a one headed two party system serving their masters, the Banksters/Federal Reserve and Wall Street.
Like I said 9 Ball your as transparent as glass.
I surely hope you don't own any guns. It's people like you the rest of us need to be protected from.
Really 9 Ball let it go, you have three accounts on this site. Do you want to know how I know?
Amaze me! You don't know what you think you know
What Ryan is trying to do is save his party in the short term They tried to put political pressure on Obama with the debt limit like they did last time and it has failed. Ryan Hopes that if they can kick the can down the road they will have time to get the political pressure to work.
This also give the No ideas Party the GOP something to to do for a few months while they pretend to do there jobs.
I am so sick of this, just raise the debt ceiling for a year like you have for ever President, then maybe you may actually be able to accomplish something, or at least try to do your job, remember we are the ones who are paying you.
Do whats right for this country and not your party, the American people are sick and tired of this crap!!!
One of the topics at their two day seminar is about learning how to communicate with women and minorities? First of all, two days could never be enough time change bitter and bigoted mind sets that these goofballs have developed over a life time. Secondly, how much time would it take for the "BULLS*#T DETECTORS" in most women and minorities to go off if Republicans suddenly sounded like they gave a crap.
It's disturbing how so many people are misinformed about what raising the debt ceiling means. The Republicans in congress understand how much not raising the ceiling will damage the counties credit rating but they DON'T CARE. They just continue to engage in economic terrorism with our economy because they want the country to fail so their rich pals can come in and buy up all they can for 5 cents on the dollar.......... This is exactly the same thing the Republicans did to cause the great depression and back then the wealthy bought up Americas assets for pennies on the dollar while average Americans went hungry...... Now the Republicans are doing it again
These worthless Republican/Tea Bag types refuse to pass any job bills or reasonable gun control laws for that matter NOTHING that would be good for the country. Of course they don't hesitate for a second to play chicken with the economy....... Every Republican in congress should all be arrested and put on trial for treason. That may sound extreme but lets face facts everything the Republicans have done for the last four years has caused economic damage to the country. They only do what is politically advantageous for them no matter how many American citizens are hurt by their actions or IN-ACTIONS.
How about this for a revolutionary idea!? Agree to increase the Debt Ceiling to $17 Trillion with one caveat: There will be no more debt ceiling increases if there is no official budget! If the Republicans and Democrats cannot come to an agreement we will not increase the ceiling, period! This will make both sides have a little skin in the game and maybe the American people will finally be heard! Plus, politicians on both sides will have their names attached to ANYTHING that is in the budget, in writing! On, by the way, there will not be a "Presidential Edict" allowed to increase the ceiling, either!
"Short term debt limit extension"?
Why, so we can hear the continuous quibbling, non-stop, all year long, coming from Republicans?
Geesch!
Don't believe a word this man says. Lying Ryan ! We have put up with him for too many terms and he has become a right wing nut case. he voted for all these Bills that cost money and now he wants to not pay for them or change his mind on them! We were lucky he didn't become VP and we came close to getting him out of office all together. Rock Co. has had enough of this two faced man. At his town hall meeting he walked out when he couldn't explain some of the numbers he was proposing. Just like Bonehead Boehner!
Eric Cantor has only scheduled them to work 60 full days this year and 50 HALF-DAYS. They are more interested in scheduling thier vacations at resorts paid for by taxpayers than solving THIER spending problem.
"trustverify"...Political athiest? We know what you are...the crap you spew is not unique.
Where on that stupid site does it show the source of their information? Anyone can run a bunch of numbers, hypnotizing the brainwashed propagandists. For people like yourself, the numbers don't even have to be close!
Stop projecting your political impotence on others and try to do a little homework.

I believe liberals are a true danger to this country but I do give you liberals credit in that your party has an ideology and all support it. I think its wrong and the reason this current president is now the title holder of the WORST economic recovery in U.S. history - but I credit you liberals for standing firm on your principles.
Isn't that interesting because I ever so strongly believe that the conservatives are the real danger to a strong American economy that fairly benefits all of us, because the average conservative could care less about anyone but themselves. The average conservative is out to steal as much money as he or she can possibly steal without a care in the world as to what happens to the people that they steal money from.
You offshore our jobs and then whine that we don't pay enough in taxes. You destroy our housing values and then try to blame us for wanting to live middle class. And for the last 12 years now, you conservatives have lied and cheated America back into war just so that you could get filthy rich supplying the troops without any thought of the long-term consequences of wartime spending on an ever more fragile economy caused by offshoring 10 million middle class jobs.
The way that I look at it, you conservatives have tried since Richard Nixon was President to destroy the middle class and take America back to the robber baron era or even earlier, and the only thing standing in your way has been the Democrats.
Tell me something: Why do you conservatives so seem to need a whole bunch of people at the bottom to walk all over and to serve as a bloody example to keep everyone else in line? Why not encourage worker productivity instead of trying to force productivity through threat?
Tell me something else: How will another few months of economic uncertainty and instability help our economy, on top of the last two years of repeatedly stringing America along with one short-term fix after another? All that another short-term fix will do is keep everyone including our business leaders guessing and unable to make long-term investment plans. It almost seems like you conservatives want our economy to stumble as much as is possible just so that you can keep whining about the President.
Isn't it true that corporate profits have soared on average to record levels during this recovery? So what is so bad about our recovery that corporations are unable to feel confident, make long-term plans, and increase hiring? It is because you conservatives won't agree to anything other than another short-term fix and a continuation of business climate uncertainty. Your leaders have even said that your goal was to damage the economy so that the President would only serve a single term, and guess what, less than half of America agreed with that policy!
So now what, try to damage our economy for another two years? You guys will be lucky to win the House in 2014 if you keep trying to grind most Americans into the economic mud just because you hate the President and/or members of his race so much! You want to know why your bloated military industrial complex is facing record budget cuts? Because you agreed to them just 18 months ago, just so that you could get some social spending cuts too. Now you have to lie in that bed too, I'm afraid.
Make no mistake: Defense spending cuts would yield an economic benefit of 2-3 times the amount cut to our civilian economy, which is most likely the main reason that you conservatives are opposed, as there is nothing worse to a conservative than a strong-enough economy for workers to have enough leverage to demand a raise and/or threaten to move to greener pastures if their demands aren't met!
The fact is that the sole reason that this economic recovery has been so poor for so many of us below wealthy is because that is what the conservatives have wanted so badly and fought so hard for, as they don't want a strong and stable middle-class and won't be happy until 90% of Americans are poor.
Is that all the GOP can do is band aid fixes? Just sign off on the debt limit you already approved and start working on the fiscal cliff issue and get it done.
Apparently, all the GOP congress did the last 2 years, and all it intends to do the next 2 years, is to threaten and then temporarily cave, and threaten again, and temporarily cave again, and so on.
Actually, although it makes both the Republicans and all America look like idiots, it seems to be pretty harmless. I think the financial people who matter know that the GOP is a bunch of misbehaving morons who don't need to be taken seriously.
You know, Brenda...I was wondering where all the regular teabaggers ran off to. They've been screaming for the last two months about how our President just wants to kick the can down the road. Now that their team is the first to kick the can, I can't believe they aren't on here screaming bloody murder about that commie socialist Paul Ryan.
Once again, the Republicans crap in the teabagger's faces and they just look up and smile. (I still haven't seen any of them justify the numerous times the debt ceiling was raised for Bush without a fuss...). What a bunch of brainwashed losers. Sean Hannity barks and their bowels loosen...
Look, this is really simple.
If we want to have all of these 'free' services from the government, then PAY FOR IT.
We are currently spending about $3.8 Trillion per year, and we are taking in about $2.7 Trillion per year, which leaves a Deficit of about $1.1 Trillion per year. If we want to keep spending at that level - THEN PAY FOR IT, and then the real cost of government will not be hidden with borrowed money - sending the bill to our children and grandchildren. It's GROSSLY UNFAIR to hide the real cost of current spending with 'Borrowed Money'. It doesn't work with our personal finances, and it doesn't work with the government (just ask Greece).
It will cost the average family of 4 about $14,000 per year in new taxes ($1,165 per month) to finance the current extra spending, but hey - if that's what you want, THEN PAY FOR IT.
Here are the National Debt figures for the last fiscal years in office for recent Presidents;
Reagan (1988) = $2.601 Trillion, an increase of $1.692 Trillion
Bush 1 (1992) = $4.002 Trillion, an increase of $1.401 Trillion
Clinton (2000) = $5.629 Trillion, an increase of $1.627 Trillion (about same increase as Reagan)
Bush 2 = (2008) = $9.986 Trillion, an increase of $4.357 Trillion
Obama (Proj. thru 2016) = $20.369 Trillion, an increase of $10.383 Trillion
Source - Obama White House 2013 Proposed Budget.
How long can we keep this Deficit spending up? If the economy grows thru 2016 at the same rate (2% per year) as it did over the last 4 years, the Debt Ratio (Debt as a % of GDP) will be at 117% of GDP - the same level as when lenders stopped lending to Greece - sending them into a depression, with 30% unemployment. Soon, we will be forced to 'Pay the Piper'.
Roy: Do the numbers for the Bush2 budget include the two wars that were off the books? Let's also not forget that medicare part D put a healthy sum on the credit card. Was that included in the Bush2 budget, or did we not start paying for it until later?
(I'm not trying to be snarky - I am just wondering if you know)
Roy keeps posting B.S. numbers trying to get the low informed people to bite......One thing about Roy..he is consistant in passing out bogus info....
Short-term debt fix??? Great. The old spender-turned-small government activist is now creating economic uncertainty; the same failed vice-president candidate who said that businesses need certainty and that extending the Bush tax cuts would give them such certainty. To paraphrase an old quote, "Washington makes strange bedfellows."
The solution is simple. Democrats: open the door to entitlement reform and then offer your own proposals to balance out whatever benefit cuts the GOP proposes. Republicans: open the door for more revenues via closing loopholes and deductions. That is, after all, what you proposed.
Here's my solution: achieve $2.5 trillion in net deficit reduction over 10 years in addition to deals already made (fiscal cliff deal and budget cuts). Phase out mortgage deduction, cap deductions to 15% of GDP, raise SS payroll cap to 90% of income, chain SS CPI, reform Medigap insurance, allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, raise Medicare Part D premium to 35%. Long-term debt and deficit problem solved, and we can focus on the economy and creating jobs.
Yeah, I know, Starsailing. It will be interesting to see if he responds with some accurate data.
Lying Ryan+ Roy = Two right wing lying extremists!
So they want to hold America's economic credit rating hostage, four, five, six times a year, until they get their way?
When will that be, until they force the nation's credit ratings by S&P, Fitch and Moody's to downgrade our economic worth, from "AA-," down to "BB" -- junk bond values?
clwyd: Don't forget ol' "trustverify"...That one was just getting a little creepy...
Liars supporting liars.
And the CAN is kicked down the road again due to threats from this administration, Democrats and people fearful of their entitlements held hostage.
The GOP has caved again and has become somewhat useless in doing the job for the American people for which they were elected.
Obama is succeeding in destroying their party one crisis at a time and he doesn't need compromising to do it.
ANy of you Obama supporters have an explanation of just what is "rational" about raising the debt limit when we can't pay our bills now? Of course I should know by now that those who love "free" phones and not having to pay thier mortage, would have absolutely no clue what debt really means since they never intend to pay for anything anyway. The real world does not work that way. See, there are no magic workers out there in never never Obama land to pay off our debt for us like we taxpayers pay for your free phones. Maybe its time to stop the stupid free stuff, ever think of that one or an even wilder idea make people pay for themselves.
Who are you, Paul Ryan? Who are you to gracefully bestow on we peons a grace period before you once more hold our nation hostage by threatening to refuse to pay her bills? I would ask this of the entire Congress. Who the hell do you think you are?
This mighty nation has risen from the ashes of the Revolutionary and Civil war by generations of proud Americans through their blood, sweat and tears. This 237 yr. old nation has risen to the occasion, not once, but twice to lead the free world in victory over tyrants that would enslave the entire globe.
Tell us, by your own measure, how you stand compared to the many great statesman throughout American history. You sit, walk and speak in the same capacity and the same hallowed halls as these men. Speak of any of your own contributions that you may compare to your predecessors. You can't. There are none. Zilch. Zero.
You are as a bunch of bickering, unruly and bullying schoolchildren. You disgrace your office and those hallowed halls with your infrequent visits in pretense of serving your country. You proudly strut with pomp and glory as if the office itself grants you greatness. It doesn't work that way. You must prove yourself worthy of the office once held by much better men.
Your approval ratings in the polls speak of your true worth. Single digits. The lowest of any Congress in history. Let me translate that for you. Your worth is less than the pimple on a young soldiers butt as he endures boot camp to fight for his country. One casual scratch leaves that pimple in his skivvies to be laundered out the next day. Can't get more worthless than that.

Bush 2 = (2008) = $9.986 Trillion, an increase of $4.357 Trillion
Roy, why do your Bush II deficit numbers keep getting smaller and smaller over time? Just a few months ago you were posting $4.7 trillion as the total deficit for Bush II, a figure that did not include that $2.1 trillion that he stole from several dozen trust funds including from the Social Security trust fund. If GW's intergovernmental borrowing is included, his 8-year deficit was $6.8 trillion. (Source: 2009 US Treasury FY 2008 Revision). Worse yet, our 2007-2009 collapse was made much worse by GW's utter falsification of reported deficits too.
You know, perhaps President Obama should have continued to try to hide GW's trust fund borrowing as then you Republicans would have had a lot less to moan about!
Remember too that the way that Greece got into the morass that they are in is that their former leaders grossly under-reported their actual deficit spending too, a fact that was revealed after a similar change in national political power there too!
I'll agree that we can't keep spending a whole lot more than we bring in, but you will have to admit that the deficit figures that you gave, even though they did not include trust fund borrowing, have not been adjusted for inflation either, and you will also have to admit that your figure for President Obama is speculative, as his entire deficit so far is only about half of what you reported as some kind of fact.
Frankly, Reagan's deficit in 1984 average dollars was far more ruinous for America as a whole than Obama's first 4-year deficit in 2010 dollars in constant inflation adjusted value.
You Republicans are hardly justified whining about Obama's deficit when your man took the strongest that the US economy has ever been with just 4% unemployment and totally ruined it in just 7 years trying to make a few cronies filthy rich!
If just half the middle-class jobs that were offshored after those 30 different free-trade bills signed by GW were still here, our unemployment rate would only be 4% and quite likely you guys wouldn't look so bad to so many Americans too!
You reap what you sow, which in the case of the Republicans means political disfavor for crashing America's civilian economy for your own personal gain!
And now you Republicans are h*llbent on trying to do it again?
Amazing, The republicans offer a short term proposal and you claim they are doing nothing. Meanwhile there is a deafening silence from congressional Democrats. They have proposed what? Let's just raise the debt ceiling now and we'll talk about savings later right? Like maybe after Obama leaves office.
The Republican proposal to cut Social Security and Medicare is going nowhere. The sequester that you Republicans agreed to in 2011 will cut 9% from defense spending, which will yield 2-3 times the number of civilian economy jobs, which should replace the jobs cut from social spending pretty well. So why not just bite the bullet and allow the sequester to take effect if you are so serious about deficit reduction, as you claim?
Another short-term proposal is worthless at this point because it continues to hamstring long-term economic development. Why not just agree to a long-term proposal to get us through the next Congressional election, so that America's business community can make some long-term plans and begin to build-up employment too?
Paul-401431, is that how you address a financial crisis at home? Refuse to pay the bills already incurred and then discuss budgetary restraints along with increased revenue. How's that working out for you? Still have a house? Still hiding the car from the repo man?
Try this on for size. Pay the bills. Take a second job. Cancel that order for a shiny new AR-15. Feed the kids and pick up Granny's heart medicine.
Ah, the joys of deficit reduction!
Europe has been slashing "Entitlements", government spending, wages, etc for the last 5-6 years and look at the wonderful result.
This is what both the Democrats and Republicans want to do here. They have already agreed to a trillion or so $$ of cuts and if you let them things will be as bad as Europe:
Europe slides deeper into recession
By Stefan Steinberg
17 January 2012
According to figures released Monday by the European Union statistics agency, Eurostat, industrial output across the 17 countries of the euro zone fell in November for the third successive month.
The 0.3 percent decline for November was worse than forecast by financial analysts, who had anticipated a slight recovery. Compared to the same month in 2011, industrial production in the euro zone was down by 3.7 percent.
Separate figures released Monday revealed that Europe's biggest economy, Germany, suffered a sharp contraction in the final quarter of 2012. The German economy, which accounts for 28 percent of all gross domestic product (GDP) in the euro zone, contracted by 0.5 percent. This slashed Germany’s growth rate for all of 2012 to just 0.7 percent, down sharply from the country’s growth rate of 3.0 percent in 2011.
The most significant expression of the economic downturn in Germany is the slump in investment by German companies in plant and machinery. Despite benchmark interest rates close to zero as set by the European Central Bank, investment in plant and machinery fell by 4.1 per cent during 2012. This compares to a 7.3 percent growth in such investment one year earlier.

Paul Ryan is not a budget guru. He is just another brainless Norquist-bot.
Propose an extension of $3 million for each regulation gotten rid of, for 3 months. So, if Obama offers up ridding us of 5000 regulations (roughly the number of new regulations put in place in December 2012) he gets a $15 Billion increase in the nation's debt ceiling for 3 months. Congress has 3 months to make the extension permanent.
Old Timer, the government cannot create private sector jobs. They can only make a favorable environment for jobs to be created.
Are teabaggers in Congress learning impaired or what, did they not get the message voters want the parties to work together to grow the economy and create jobs ? Americans have had enough of this hostage taking and kicking the can down the road.
Ellis, read my above post.
For all the grandstanding, the 2011 GOP holdout of something that was so routine for them in the past ended up costing taxpayers billions because of the credit downgrade that resulted. It is obvious that ideology trumps over fiscal responsibility for the GOP. Oh, and I lost value in my 401k too. Thanks GOP, I don't forget things like that.
"paul": Do you know what a deadbeat is? It would be someone that runs up the bills and then refuses to pay them when they come due. Republicans like to spend like Paris Hilton and, when the bills are due, they skip out on them. Democrats, however, are consistent with paying the bills when they come in - like normal, well-adjusted adults.
My guess is, "paul", that you are your little teabagger buddies had absolutely no idea what a debt ceiling is prior to 2009.
Grown-ups pay the bills. Grow up.
Yup! For generations vote the Bills that involve spending and then blame it on Obama and refuse to pay! U hope it ends up costing them their jobs.
The Democrats like to spend a lot more than they bring in also.
Tom,
You forget that 9O% of the spending going on right now was voted in through Bills both republicans and Democrats voted into law or wars they were lied to about as to their purpose and cause! So why wouldn't the debt be what it is, both republicans ( Do Nothings!) and Democrats voted for them. Pay our bills or stop and change the laws that they passed of the past decades!
Tom,
republicans like to spend as well as they voted in these spending Bill. Democrats wouldn't have had to votes without them!
The GAO report released a couple of days ago paints a grisly picture of this country's economic meltdown coming soon if Obama doesn't stop running up the debt. Last November we the people have elected our own executioner. How's that for democracy?
Those reading this post that aren't one of Obama's welfare dregs or dullard supporters would be wise to look up the GAO report and read it for yourselves because the news is so frightening and disturbing it would never be covered by nbc because it exposes once again Obama for the incompetent disaster that he is.
Any that think raising the debt ceiling solves anything is most certainly one of Obama's dullard followers.
Wet Willy,
Running up the debt? Do you know what the heck you are talking about???? I think Not! The spending is from Bills passed for decades by both republicans ( Do Nothings!)and Democrats. The Job's Bill was Obama's , but the rest of the costs are basically costs from generations of laws and Bills passed by both republicans and democrats. Bush's two wars at the cost of $4,000,000,000,000 to the spending, but of course no mention of how that jerk (The Worst President ever) added to the spending. Of course, the 7,250 body bags associated to the two lost wars don't add any value to them either!
Shocked,
So what laws do you wish to negate and cut costs on? It would involve rewriting them and then voting the up or down again? I would say cut defense by 1/2!
Did you miss the words 'Short Term'?
Here we go again...
How can we as a Nation have Paul Ryan removed from his office ??????
On another note! Business Roundtable Executives and CEO's push for 70 years old as the new retirement standard for Social Security. Pretty funny becuase you are basically unhireable after the age of 50 unless you want to manage a mobile home park or act as a greeter at WalMart!
RandogM - actually - a lot of older Americans are being hired for very good jobs because of their knowledge and maturity. Their leadership skills are valued by good companies!
All that mulling they got my 2%..Now we go again,
"for sake"
TrustVerify
IDIOT!. Obama is not trying to take your guns away. He actually has expanded where guns may be carried that used to be illegal, the Federal Parks system.
There are as many guns as there are people in the USA. I have guns, but I don't think crazies or criminals should have them.
What are you afraid of? You must be listening to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, a real nut job.
Where's all the OUTRAGE on how much this is costing taxpayers from the right wing nitwits? Or are the WHAAAA's only reserved for Presidential vacations?
The only place these clowns need to retreat to, is back to the bottom of the cess-pool of hell that spawned them!
That's going to be one BIG and detailed map!
They are just doing what their leader Obama has taught them!!!!
Navigating the galaxy would be easier. Funny part is, why provide all the stale, male, pale farts with a map. They can't read them, and God knows, they will never ask for nor listen to the directions.
Although I don't feel I'd be declared a right wing nitwit, my outrage is clearly here Feisty!
For those of us still working, most of us are having to do the job that was once done by 3 or more people. Most of us are able to accomplish the desired results as set forth by our employers.
Why do these clowns try to give the impression that they are more important than us and need more time off and more quality time with family than any of us?
Here is a message from one American worker to Congress: STOP ALL THE FINGER POINTING AND GET TO WORK ON OUR PROBLEMS AND STAY ON THE JOB EACH AND EVERY DAY THE WAY YOU SHOULD BE DOING UNTIL THE JOB IS COMPLETE!
Brian,
Of course you're not a nitwit (I'm talking about the usual suspects who enjoy trolling around here)! Spouting off all kind of false figures.
Heck, I consider you to be barely "right wing"! ;o)
Hi Feisty!
I was simply referencing you're post as if it was an invitation only for RWNJ's to respond.
Thank you for believing that I am not a nitwit!
As far as my political standing, I would say it is about 50 degrees left of center. While I occasionally agree with some of the thoughts/actions of the GOP, I most often agree with the democrats.
Layton
First step will be to gerrymander the map.
blackcatwhitecat
the only way for Republicans to win elections...
I know - the GOP wants to keep extending the debt limit until they have a majority in both houses AND control the White House.
Short term this
Put off that
Strike big problems
With a whiffle ball bat!
AAAAAHHHHHGGGGGG!!!!
DW-301036
actually they did not that long ago - during Bush2 terms. They managed to raise the debt ceiling 4 times and start 2 wars.
Is that the same cesspool Senator Obama climbed into when he voted against raising the debt ceiling and said raising the debt ceiling was a "sign of failed leadership?"
Obama knows he's a failure. What he doesn't understand is how Americans could b so stupid as to syill believe in him and vote for him. Then again we have Pigotry, who with the added benefit of spell check still cannot spell.. so never underestimate the stupidity of liberals.
Anyone else see the irony here??? LMAO
You might want to take a look in the mirror before making an ass out of yourself next time!
Feisty,
I agree with you but why sugar coat it?
DW
If the GOP ever get control of the house, senate and White house again, the debt limit will be raised without a word having to be said. They would blow the budget, destroy the economy, get voted out and blame Democrats for the mess
Feisty - and more amazing, he puts the President down and questions how we could vote for him but refuses to acknowledge that the Republicans have run such horrible candidates - twice - that they could't defeat President Obama. Must really SucK to be as stupid as Skibum!@
jpintar
I'll make sure to say how I really feel next time! ☺
No one attacks my piggy... lol
Should the school children of America - begin writing letters to Barack Obama to beg him to help get the economy going again and help their parents get much needed jobs for their families?
Would he read them at a press conference?
More important - would he do anything about it - going into his 5th year
I didn't see the Republican party kicking the can down the road when Reagan increased the debt ceiling ( 17 ) "TIMES", more than any President in history !!!

I sure hope they don't have any protection with them except what can be provided by their own gun-totin' family members... Otherwise, It would be thoroughly hypocritical of them and just increase the gross misuse of funds already squandered on their travel, etc. to the good plantation and what-not!!
I heard that they invited Obama to attend, but he declined when they made it clear the only remaining lodgings were in the old slave quarters...
Enough with the false equivalencies already Feisty!!! You know full well that the travel plans of a republican Senatuh simply cannot be compared with those of a cullud man!! Why soon enough, you'd have them on the same plane and likely even eatin' togethuh!! Where ARE yo mannuhs??
Feisty - I certainly got a little chuckle when I read skibum609's comments about spell check considering his illiterate post and then laughed out loud when I read your response. You can't make this stuff up.
Hi Kim!
NO you can't and that is the scary part... they walk amongst us... lol
Code for "We Detest You But Want Your Vote".
LOL, I'd love to see the power-point presentation on this one.
Top Ten Don'ts When Communicating with Minorities & Women
1) Don't qualify the word "rape". Don't defend anybody who does. Actually, NEVER USE the word rape again!
2) Don't refer to the 47% in any fundraisers. Actually, NEVER USE percentages again!
3) Always have a binder full of women, but please call it a pool of intelligent, well qualified female applicants. That's what they are.
4) Don't refer to the Energy Secretary as "Mr. Cho, Mr. Ching, Mr. Chow Mein, whatever his name is". If you do, don't do it in front of tea party members, as they will laugh there ass off as if this ignorant, tired, racist "joke" is actually funny. We lost the WV Senate race twice because of this.
5) Don't run a political ad featuring an Asian woman speaking in Charley Chan broken english, especially when the actress is an educated college graduate that doesn't speak anything like that. We lost the Michigan Senate race because of this.
6) Don't run a political ad featuring brown-skinned people as thieves, and then tell reporters, "well, they look Chinese to me". We lost the Nevada Senate race because of this.
7) When recruiting women for party positions, please ensure they can name a newspaper and a Supreme Court decision other than Roe v Wade. These are not "gotcha" questions, anyone should be able to answer them.
8) For God's sake, we actually got a Republican elected to Ted Kennedy's old seat, then lost it when Brown's supporters went all racist with their tomahawk chants during rallies. Don't make fun of American Indians.
9) Don't make up stupid names like "macaca" to insult and denigrate a young man (who is a constituent after all) participating in the electoral process. We lost the VA Senate election twice because of this.
10) IN SUMMARY - DON'T BE YOURSELVES
Bob-1585806
nice list!
Most of the people who committed these "crimes" are intelligent and educated, yet so stupid and ignorant. It's amazing!
Bob, good job.
One day the Republicans will find an emotional, hysterical Republican who doesn't work, cannot fathom how to use birth control and then and only then will they have someone to talk to minorities and women.
# 11) Don't run a political ad in which your primary statement is that you are not a witch. Even bringing up such a flaky topic raises the question as to whether you have the seriousness to be elected to public office. The Republicans lost a Delaware Senate seat because of this woman.
skibum609 - as a woman your post is both insulting and unbelievably ignorant - but typical Republican. Since the vast majority of us work and know about birth control your post shows the problem with Republican men. They are stupid and have no problem posting it for the world to see.
Women can and have been walking circles around you dolts for ages - you just don't realize it. No take your tiny little appendage and crawl back under the rock you emerged from. You're useless trash and not worth a damn! Oh, and that's the reason no intelligent woman is going to look at a piece of trash like you!
Next how incompentent is the reporting on the Notre Dame player story - No investigaton into his claims
SeekingSanity very well said!
skibum609
"One day the Republicans will find an emotional, hysterical Republican who doesn't work, cannot fathom how to use birth control and then and only then will they have someone to talk to minorities and women."
Yes Skibum, perhaps one day they will once again turn to their constitchencies for guidance... You make a good point.
Remember when "skibums" were kind of cool? I used to live in Squaw Valley and skibums were DEFINITELY NOT angry narrow minded blowhards.......maybe a bit eccentric or bohemian but not complete knuckleheads!
Why would you want to vote for a party for whom all these points and behaviors come so naturally? This is how the party is.
There is strength in diversity. America is diverse. The Republican party is not diverse and hungers to control the people not like them. Until they abandon their social issues and stick their mantra of personal responsibility and stay out of our private lives, our marriages, our medicine cabinets and our uteri, the only people who will take them seriously are the people just like them. And guess what? That's not America.
Impress us by putting America and financial issues first. Drop your insanely hypocritical social issues. If your precious middle America, white, religious following doesn't like it, who are they going to vote for? A Democrat? Stop pandering to them or continue to lose.
"I used to be for equal rights for gays but now I've changed my mind." - Said no voter ever.
Another 4 years of routine hostage taking, trying to kill the economy with death by a thousand cuts. They probably figure a depression is needed to make the GOP kings of all branches again. Maybe a big sell off is needed to balance the debt, for sale signs on the red states then they can be the next province of China where they moved the factories and jobs to anyway.
Or, maybe they just have a different world view than you, and therefore have different opinions on how best to solve our countries problems...
I have a lot of hard-core liberal and conservative friends, and from what I can tell, they all want basically the same thing - safety and security for their family and friends first, then for everyone else. They often have very significant views on how best to accomplish those goals, but the goals are usually the same.

no they don't because during Bush2 1st term they controlled all three: WH+Senate+House. GWB first veto didn't happen until 2005.
yet, they raised the debt ceiling bunch of times, started 2 wars, and increased spending.
I smell "rationality", "maturity" and "compromise" in the air--The new Right Wing mantras. The school yard bully routine does not appear to work.
Just like they did when Bush was POTUS... oh, wait... never mind. Ryan voted to raise the debt ceiling SEVEN times under Bush.
wait didnt Obama as Senator say it was a lack of leadership Ped? So what you have established is that politicians are panderers and hypocrites. This is somehow news?
"Just like they did when Bush was POTUS... oh, wait... never mind. Ryan voted to raise the debt ceiling SEVEN times under Bush."
Shhhh... We aren't supposed to talk about He Who Must Not Be Named...
jdp -- you do mean obama the hypocrite, correct? when senator he was against raising; when president he wants congress out of the way so he can do it himself because he is the smartest man on the planet?
TO: billybob-6210632 who wrote:
He's definately the most powerful man on the planet, and next to Democrat President Bill Clinton, yes, probably the smartest.
Sorry I can't say the same about any Republican.
and Obama voted against it.
Obama isn't even the smartest Black man with a law degree i have spoken to in the last hour, let alone the smartest man on earth. He's so smart he cannot even release his college transcripts, or his law school transcripts, or even explain why both he and Michelle had to turn in their law licenses to avoid being disbarred, which of course Bill Clinton, felony perjurer also had to do. Then again Joe Biden was booted out of Harvard for Plagiarism, following in the steps of Ted Kennedy who wasn't smart enough to plagiarize and was therefore booted out fopr cheating, which came before he murdered Mary Jo Kopechne and ran away.
skibum - okay since you are by far the dumbest idiot on this site, we'll go over this ONCE again. NO President has EVER released their college transcripts and it is illegal for the schools to release them. My schools cannot release mine, etc.
Michelle and Barack Obama have NOT turned in their law licenses - they are on inactive status and can be re-activated at any time. In order to keep a law license active you have to take continuing education course every year plus pay malpractice insurance - not necessary since they are not going to practice law for the 8 years he is President.
What's even stupider, these are all debunked at FactCheck and Snopes but you're too stupid to even check. You are the biggest fool posting in a long time. How embarrassing it must be to wake up every day and be YOU!!!!!
SEVEN TIMES. 18 under Regan, but who's counting?
Damyou
"Monica.....is that you!"
Well Damyou... She used her dress and your eyes seem to be stuck shut... Hmmm. I wonder if you saw THAT coming?
Real nice attack on AG though... you're brilliant!
Another stall tactic. I love how these guys only no how to kick the can rather then do their job. These guys will do anything to get out of doing their job. This is total BS and I am tired of paying abunch of lazy suits for doing nothing. They got the nerve to call the everydau woeking guy lazy...talk about the piot calling th ekettle black. Time to get off your arsses and get to work. This is another attempt have an opportunity to to blackmail the people in the future again. Do your work or get out of office and let someone who is willing to do the job the people pay them to do the your place. The GOP in this congress is the laziest bunch of deadbeats I ever saw. Funny how they only get fatigue when when the Dems. are in office. They go nuts and spend like crazy (coz according to Cheney deficits dont matter ) and push through every silly thing in sight when the gop is in power. Must be the coffee huh? or is it the coffee color of the president? Face it..you dont like having a black president so your not gonna do your job just to teach us our lesson for electing him huh? Racists!
skibum609 - You're new here, aren't you. You are going to find that most folks on here, including some on the Right, really don't respond well to people who so openly display such ignorance. You might want to reconsider your approach, do some research and use spell check or perhaps proof read your comments.
[Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman and erstwhile GOP vice presidential candidate, told reporters at House Republicans' retreat that members were "discussing the virtue of a short term debt limit extension."]
So, the GOP wants to engage in a game of "Kick The Can"?
Huh...
Why don't they hold a class on Reading Polls 101? Even cockroaches lead the GOP House in polls. If they want to improve their image and their message, might I suggest they model themselves after cockroaches. It would improve their ranking.
its the same from both sides on any given day Mickey. Why is it that you act like it so one sided.
Asked by the one sided poster ...
[its the same from both sides on any given day Mickey.]
Where's you're "outrage"?
[Why is it that you act like it so one sided.]
Luke, too much, you assume...
[Asked by the one sided poster ...]
Ain't that funny how that happens?
if you say so my flighty friend but do you deny that both sides not do that?
I find it disgusting. feel better. You see my initial question to you, it acknowledges i dont find it cute either side does it...nor am i shocked...
yes hilarious, even funnier by skirting the question and pretending it had no merit. Nice diversion.
PS Ikarus and Mickey, a simple you're right Caesar would have been sufficient. Touche'
[if you say so my flighty friend but do you deny that both sides not do that?]
Let the squirming begin...don't worry, it's not like you're a hypocrite or anything.

H. L. Mencken
And then there is humour ... and one side seems to suffer from a great lack ... your guess.
black -- finally, obama is truly as a fraud. no hope, no change -- just SSDD for the political elite.
Geeze Micks, what's that have to do with price of eggs. Im pretty sure we all cross that line at some point(s) time in our life. again playing coy with question only got you a fanboy in Ikarus. Touche'
what flavor is the koolaid today Mickey? I hope its pomegranite dragonfruit combo.
billybob ... you are no e. e. cummings ... learn to use capitals ... thanks.
unknot the toga Parker, Mickey and I go way back.
[unknot the toga Parker]
Nahh, he's into that auto-erotica stuff...he's just indulged one too many times.
black -- relax. i do not shout on this type of communication. i capitalize when the situation warrants. you do not need to read my comments and opinions if it bothers you that much.
billybob ... (i) had no idea that (I) was shouting. Silly of me.
black -- still reading??
You addressed me ... I am being polite. Did I somewhere indicate that I put you on ignore?
Ikarus, you and Mickey are speaking Greek.. Keep it in Athens will ya.
Curious Micks, when you drink the Koolaid, do you sip in a whine glass or go balls to the wall and chug it in a beer bong?
TOGA TOGA TOGA..Its all Greek to you two ;)
I swear the GOP is in a continual loop swinging from moronic to stupid. What is going on with what was one of the greatest political parties in history? Some strong leadership better get control of the puppies for they are bound to ruin the thing.
Um, if they're moronic and stupid why are they all rich? Is it now Progressive theory that smart people quit high school, do drugs, get pregnant and live off welfare?
You don't even know how they get rich Skibum?... By getting paid handsomely by lobbyists to subjugate other moronic, stupid, willing concubines. That's republican politics 101... The only way you'll ever find yourself on even ground with them and foremost in their minds is if you wait for them in the next stall over in an airport mens room... Even then it won't last.
Skibum just has to be a re-reg troll...
This is the only play they have.
Stop playing games and start doing your job. Your job is not running for re-election, hiding from tea party challenges. Put together a real spending proposal, instead of bickering over bargaining chips and contraception.
Amen! If the average American did their jobs in the same manner congress does, our asses would be canned in .5 seconds flat. Utter horse@!$%#, I say.
Shut'er down!!!
No cuts!!!
Now new revenue!!! (no increase in spending)
Yeah Gary...those troops overseas protecting your first amendment rights don't really need to be paid.
And hey, those old folks don't REALLY need that SS check this month...do they?
Tard.
Your concern, is simple a phony effort to keep your check coming!
comrade obama would love to cut the military checks off but doesn't have the nads!!!
Provide the cuts and the situation is resolved!!!
Gary K - You're an idiot - plain and simple!
sanity (?) lmao, should have saved some money, kid!!!
sheite happens????
Gary K - seeking sanity in the Republican party but, you're right - total waste of money and time since you and others like you prove daily there is NONE to be found!
May I see your credentials, again LMAO!!!
This isn't about new spending. This is to pay for spending Congress already approved.

This is really stupid. The the president approves congresses spending, and congress approves the dept limit, paying for they're expenditures. In history no congress has ever not approved a debt ceiling appropriate to they're own spending,... These people are out of they're minds!!! Obstructionism? party of no? teaparty ?
Let's hope we don't need to deal with these idiots after the next midterm elections. Unless the mess with the electoral maps again.

We need to get away from fiscal crisis's, and engage in long term economic planning. High deficits are tied to high unemployment (less tax revenue), and as unemployment improves, so does the deficit. Priority must be on long term job creation, possibly including infrastructure projects which are badly needed in parts of America. Cutting defense spending, closing tax loopholes for the wealthy and corporations, allowing medicare to purchase prescription drugs as a single entity could save billions to taxpayers and seniors, and reducing medicare fraud are areas that should be discussed.
The debt limit should already be a no brainer...done deal.
How bout a new budget?
If we could get a new budget, business will then finally start using the TRILLIONS of dollars they are sitting on and do some hiring and expanding.
Absolute stupidity. How about doing the right thing and pass a bill that eliminates the debt ceiling. It is an anachronistic artifice that means nothing to the markets anymore, it's not required by the constitution, not needed by the federal reserve, so just eliminate it altogether.
Then, pass the bill eliminating the sequestration failures and get a damn budget passed for the next 2 years that has legitimate spending cuts, both to defense, other discretionary spending and entitlements. Eliminate the corporate and hedge fund/private equity loopholes, and put in a $.02 tax on all stock, bond, commodities and derivative transactions. Get it done!
Bob,
WAY too much common sense there...a new budget alone would unleash American business.
What? Are you daring to say that the Ryan's Right-wing Republicans are advocating something that is not Constitutional? Whaaa.... I am speechless! Everybody knows that anything the TeaParty says is, by definition, Constitutional. Maybe, in order to get more whiners signed up, we need some more Anti-Infringement Amendments:
'The right of the TeaParty to determine Constitutionality shall not be infringed!'
'The right of the TeaParty to stuff the mouths of anyone who disagrees with them with dirty American flags from their front yards shall not be infringed!'
'The right of the TeaParty to infringe on anything they deem anti-TeaParty shall not be infringed!'
'The right of the TeaParty to accept money from ultra-rich greed mongers and claim they are a grassroots organization shall not be infringed!'
'The right of TeaParty operatives to make complete fools of themselves, drown out opponents discussions with loud mouths, and make up any distortions, lies, and half-truths they deem effective shall not be infringed!'
Wow, I wasn't anti-tea party before, but after that post, you make them sound so much like left wing Democrats that I'm not certain they're not actually the same group of people. If they're as delusional as the left wing Democrats, then I'm certain we don't want them in our government either.
Anilof - nice try but we all know what lunatics the Tea Partiers are! They don't like anyone who isn't just like them - pale, male and stale. They want to control everyone's life from fetus to the grave - which they want to have a say in the timing for you!
If you consider Democrats delusional, you honestly need help!
If you made illegal aliens ineligible for Federal benefits as a compromise we could deal.
skibum609
Please document when and where illegal aliens are eligible for Federal benefits?
Jed7 - they're not. skibum just posts idiotic lies over and over again. It's all he has and it's pretty pathetic!
Seeking Sanity, sorry I know plenty of Conservative Tea Party Blacks...I can direct you to them if you like.
Tom - no, you don't - at least not intelligent ones. The Tea Party is irrelevant and idiotic. Let's face it - they have the likes of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann as members. 'nuff said!
Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams.
Shockedanddisgusted
Not to be "snarky" but since Obama and crew have NEVER done a budget even though they are required by law to do so every year, how do you know what he is throwing our money away on????
Seeking, I will direct them your way. Tell them they are not intelligent. When we say Obama is not intelligent you scream racism, but when you call black tea party members unintelligent what does that mean?
on retreat? guess who's paying for that and they get to take the wife and kiddies along.
Hey, GOP---STOP playing games with this country and our people!!!! Raise the debt ceiling, and negotiate in good faith--no more 'Plan B's' and walking away from the table. In other words, do your jobs!!!!
It doesn't matter what Obama does. He might give them anything they want, but they will still say no so they can make him look ineffective. Last debt ceiling the speaker of the house had a deal with the president, but still could not get the party to approve it. He had to go back and say it was Obama's bad offer, even though he was part of it. He could not even sell it to his own party! Talk about ineffective.
The Ryan budget - called immoral by Christian leadership.
Paul Ryan - No abortions, even in the case of rape and mothers health.
Why are we still listening to anything this man says?
Dion. You did not say if it was Legitimate Rape or non legitimate rape.
Legitimate rape, as a legal term, is limited to the sexual behavior of Clarence, Uncle Tom, Thomas.
Because the last Gallup poll on the issue was forced to recognize the fact 51% of Americans now describe themselves as pro-life.
skibum609,
The May, 2013 Gallop Poll shows 52% says abortion should be legal in some circumstances, and 25% say in all circumstances. Only 20% said illegal in all circumstances.

Will someone please tell Ryan to shut up and sit down. He already ruined our great leader Romney's chances to become the next Bush-sitter. What else is he wanting to screw up now? We in the right wing must recognize that the American voter has been able to detect lying since 2007 and must figure out another way to get our fearless fathers of freedom (FFF) back into the White House so we can get some more of those gold bars in Fort Knox...
Paul Ryan......whew.......dodged that bullet!
Yeah, it was that 2nd bullet, to the head, that got us.
Dear Mr. Lyin Ryan--- extend the debt limit for a meaningful time. There really isnt ANYTHING TO NEGOTIATE!!! Either you will do it, or you wont--- and experience the consequences!
i Bet you didnt think that the American people would ever find out that the GOP deliberately created this debt crisis so they could force the privatizing of SS and Medicare, funneling all those future trillions into the handS of the same Wall Streeters who crashed the economy 4 years ago!! Well, we DID find out and my hunch is that you guys will be out of power by 2015! Creating a debt crisis endangers our national security. Deliberately endangering national security is TREASON! You've come VERY close to destroying our country!! DAMN YOU!!
Obama has all wall streeters running the finances and they made a killing on Obama's GM ipo, which just cost the taxpayers 22 billion dollars, all for Wall Street. Apparently you can read, but cannot think.
skibum - when you post your stupidity we all just sit back and laugh. You've posted lie after lie afte lie today. NOT ONE post has been accurate. You're a total loser!
I knew that the Republicans would CAVE. The Republicans are just a bunch A-holes that will do nothing, as they have done in the past four years. The Republican Party Leadership, I am using the term Leadership very loosely knows that they are useless and havent got the guts to do what is right. I say no more Debt, but the Republicans are running scared. There are not enough Adjectives invented yet to describe the Republican Leaders.
you can sum it up with just one words - incompetent
Thats racist. Obama is just less competent not incompetent.
Republicans need to play by comrade obama's rules and shove it up progressives A.. this time!!!
No cuts, then it's up your A..!!!
Gary, you seem a bit preoccupied by shoving things up people's asses. Have you quit doing that yet?
Watch the republican'ts get their ass handed to them in the 2014 midterms....hahahahahahahaa.
So Ryan, how short is short term? Why are they kicking the can down the road again? Apparently they realize that the consequences of not approving a debt ceiling would not be good for the Republicans. Ryan proved what a lying piece of cow poo he is during the campaign last year so what he says should not be taken seriously at all. The nonsense by the Republicans with their blocking reasonable job creation bills and other stimulous bills will come back to haunt them.
Other reports.....no deal without solid budget cuts....two sides to every coin.....
But for the Retards who have not figured out that Obama was re-elected, both sides are tails...
Even my moniker is ahead of cockroaches because congress will
not see us coming in 14 !
