Obama’s tough sell on guns… Playing the short-term game and a longer-term one… NRA isn’t backing down… NBC/WSJ poll comes out tonight at 6:30 pm ET… Obama’s first four years in office -- then vs. now… What’s the same… And our raw “then” vs, “now” data.
*** A tough sell: For the Obama White House, the easy part was announcing its legislative recommendations to curb gun violence, as it did yesterday. But the hard part will be getting them through Congress -- even the relatively low-hanging fruit like universal background checks -- as well as sustaining the political momentum after the tragic Newtown shootings. Already, Republican lawmakers have rejected the recommendations out of hand, and we’re watching to see how some Democrats (like Sen. Joe Manchin) will be reacting in the weeks ahead. In an op-ed in the Connecticut Post, President Obama admits, as he did yesterday, that this all will be a tough sell. “The truth is, there's only one voice powerful enough to make this happen: yours. If you think we've suffered too much pain to allow this to continue, put down the paper, turn off the computer, and get your members of Congress on record… Ask them why getting an A-grade from the gun lobby is more important than giving parents some peace of mind when they drop their child off for first grade.” And the White House says the president will hit the road to sell these recommendations and keep up the political pressure. What was remarkable about yesterday was how much the president tried to tap into emotions to get a campaign going. Can he keep up that momentum?

*** The short-term game and the long-term one: Yet it’s important to remember that there are two games here. The first is the short-term game to get some of these measures passed through Congress. The second -- if that first game falls short -- is to change the politics of gun violence in the long term. And that’s where the campaigning and sustaining the political momentum come in. By the way, what we’re seeing with Obama’s ambitious gun proposal is a second-term president who’s free of having to run for office again. As USA Today writes, “The beauty of a second term presidency, at least for the man in the Oval Office, is that political calculations become less important as he considers policies he wants to pursue. President Obama's sweeping gun-safety agenda laid out Wednesday reflects just that reality as he called on Americans to get behind a dramatic plan that he believes can help stem gun violence.” Whether it’s been the fiscal-cliff debate, his cabinet picks (like Chuck Hagel), and now these gun proposals, Obama has been more confrontational and less burdened by simple politics.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd talks about President Barack Obama's new set of gun control proposals.
*** No, I won’t back down: For its part, the National Rifle Association isn’t backing down one bit. In an interview on “TODAY” with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, the NRA’s David Keene opposed the kind of universal background checks Obama is calling for. Keene also argued that limiting gun magazines to just 10 rounds doesn’t do much to stop a mass shooter. (“It takes a second to change the magazine,” he said.) And he defended its web video that injected the Obama daughters into the gun-violence debate. (“It wasn’t about the president’s daughters,” Keene said about the web video. “It’s about how to keep children safe.”) It was curious to hear Keene’s answer on the magazine -- if it’s not that big of a deal then passing the legislation shouldn’t be a problem, right?
*** NBC/WSJ poll day! How does the American public view the gun-control debate? What are their views about Obama as he begins his second term next week? And what are their impressions about the Republican Party and the Tea Party? Be sure to tune into NBC’s “Nightly News,” or click onto NBCNews.com, beginning at 6:30 pm ET for the answers from our new national NBC/WSJ poll.
*** Obama’s first four years in office -- then vs. now: Speaking of Obama and beginning his second term, one of us has taken a statistical look at the past four years -- where things where as Obama took his first oath of office and where they are now. For starters, there are plenty of numbers suggesting that the country is on more solid footing than it was when he first took office on Jan. 20, 2009. The Dow Jones Industrial average is up 5,550 points since then. The economy is growing (instead of contracting). Consumer confidence has nearly doubled (though it remains below where it was before the Great Recession). And a larger percentage of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction (but a majority still think it’s on the wrong track). On the other hand, there’s data indicating that the nation isn’t better off than it was four years ago – and that the Great Recession continues to take a toll on families. Median household income (adjusted for inflation) is lower than it was in 2009. And more Americans live below the poverty level than they did four years ago.
*** And what’s the same: In addition. some numbers are exactly the same. The current unemployment rate is at 7.8%, which is where it was in Jan. 2009 (though it’s down from a high of 10.0% in Oct. 2009). And right now, there are roughly 49 million Americans without health insurance, which is identical to where it was in 2009. (The health-insurance mandate under the health-care law doesn’t kick in until 2014.) But these might be the most striking figures: The number of U.S. troops in Iraq has dwindled from nearly 140,000 to just 200, while the presence in Afghanistan has increased from 34,000 to 66,000.

Supercongrats to the President and Vice-President for such a broad range of proposals to address gun violence. The vast majority of Americans support sensible gun legislation, and after meeting with 229 groups across America, the WH response to the horrendous Newtown tragedy was rapid.
Mayor Bloomberg, who heads up Mayors Against Illegal Guns, happily listed off this most comprehensive set of proposals ever: From background checks on all gun sales, restrictions on military-style semiautomatic rifles & high capacity magazines. To tougher penalties for gun traffickers, appointing an AFT director, and updating background checking systems, data and research on gun violence.
Also addressing mental health realities and support, as well as the effects of video and media on violence.
And proven strategies towards a more nurturing school environment, reducing bullying and other behavioral problems, as well as emergency preparedness.
Our leaders in the WH listened to the concerns of 229 groups, and addressed them in concrete ways. Bravo! Bravo!
Lefty liberals seem to be REALLY, REALLY confused about the status of Social Security’s finances.
I have seen many FR lefty liberals here repeatedly saying SS is financially solvent for the next 20 years, AND, it does not add a dime to the deficit.
But, King Barry the First claims that, if the evil Republicans don’t raise the limit on his Royal Chinese credit card, SS checks will not go out and seniors will pay the price.
OK.
Somebody’s lying here.
So, FR lefty liberals: who is the LIAR??
You or Barry??
LMFAO!!!!!!
Happy 49th birthday First Lady!
I am so proud of your being an incredible role model as a mother, wife, First Lady, and all the things you do for the military. As your fellow Chicagoan, it makes so happy that you have shown the dingbats how classy you are and Chicago is not a gangster town.
I have a short and succinct answer to the Yahoo's heading the NRA who are threatening; "The Fight of the Century".
BRING IT!
Good always prevails over Evil...
My right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness trumps your sick, perverted, obsession with WMD's!
All your threats & hysteria don't change a thing!!!
On school provisions:
"...more school resource officers, school psychologists, social workers, and counselors, as well as make other investments in school safety. We also need to make sure every school has a comprehensive emergency management plan so they are prepared to respond to situations like mass shootings. In addition, the Administration is proposing to help 8,000 schools put in place proven strategies to prevent violence and improve school climate by reducing bullying, drug abuse, violence, and other problem behaviors."
#NowIsTheTime to make our schools safer Wh.gov/nowisthetime
The GOP Cult.
Hey crazy/stupid gunners, it would behoove you to read this little note.
You need to know the majority of N.R.A. members want a background check as a prerequisite for firearms ownership. Wayne LaPierre presents a minority view - profiteers and nuts. He is the face of death. He is not about hunting. He is about money. Don't think for one minute he cares one bit about you.
Now, let's get down to business here. All that noise you're making? Gotta have those monster magazines. Gotta have military style weaponry. Gotta have semi-automatic rifles that won't just bring down game, but shred it on the spot. Who are you kidding? You aren't about hunting. You're all about "Let's Pretend".
Somewhere you heard some drivel about bringing down a government that oppresses you. What government is that? The one that allows you to play "Let's Pretend". You get to buy a weapon that is designed for the sole purpose of killing human beings. Don't BS me. That's what it is. Then, you go buy some overpriced camos. (Hey, how's the wife lookin' in that camo negligee? Almost as hot as your Bushmaster?) You put on some boots and camo make-up (I'll bet Revlon is working on a nice complementary eye-liner for ya.) and you play "Let's Pretend".
You go out in the woods and rough it with your buddies and tell war stories. They're made-up stories of course, because while you're a true patriot, you didn't feel compelled to join the military, where you could legally carry a fully-automatic weapon. (I know. In the military, there's actually bad guys on the other side, and they shoot back. That ain't "Let's Pretend".) Anyway, you talk tough about how the evil government is gonna take yer guns. You ain't gonna take that crap. You guys are so damned tough, you'll take on the military that scared you so bad you wouldn't join. The onliest way they're gonna take yer gun is when they pry it from your cold, dead fingers.
Well, I got a finger for you. That evil government. That's me. I never made a sound about taking your precious guns. I didn't care if you played "Let's Pretend". I didn't care if you wanted to get all made up and run around in the woods. But these days, I'm getting pretty upset. I'm tired of hearing how I'm the enemy. I'm sick of hearing how you're going to take on the government. This is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
My wife is the people. My kids are the people. My friends are the people. WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT. Guns are NOT my friends, and if you keep talking this BS, you aren't my friends. Keep screaming about fighting the government day in and day out, and spewing BS about a Constitution you've never read, and I think maybe you're my enemy. I think maybe you shouldn't have those guns.
I think it's time for you to shut the hell up and listen for a change. If you can't get behind sensible gun ownership requirements like the ones the President just proposed, you'd better know that your "no compromise" nonsense is going to really piss off THE PEOPLE. Keep it up, and we're going to end your game of "Let's Pretend".
Yes-terday.
Ironically while La Pierre was screeching to the S.T.O.P. gallery, 'outraging' about needing more armed officers in school:
President Obama announced new measures asking Congress to fund school districts, so that schools can hire law and counseling resource Officers, should they choose to do so.
YES = YES?
But President Obama didn't use the kids as props. Paranoid, screwball, right wing nut jobs didn't blast off with a hit list when GW Bush signed the stem cell bill with a a child at his side. Funny isn't it?
See look at him there...
http://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/newshounds/pages/2182/attachments/original/1358358992/Bush.jpg?1358358992
The lowest common denominator of campaign props are the NRA & FAKE NEWS aka FOX using SCARE tactics to advance gun sells. Never once has President Obama said he would take away anyone's guns. Guess clinging to guns has come full circle.
Mark Levin call President Obama "fascistic" on Neil Cavuto over the President's executive orders to reduce gun violence. No surprise; this meltdown gives rise to the right wing's fascination with Hitler. Of course, this isn't a new low for FAKE NEWS.
Mark Levin needs a massive dose of Thorazine; just like his buddy slant head Hannity and the s^%t flinging baboon Glenn Beck.
FYI: President Barack Obama has received more death threats than any other president and his family has received them as well. Sasha & Malia Obama are no more important than any other children. But they are way more vulnerable. All children are precious.
Lots of people on the left were in the cross hairs of so-called Christians like Sarah Palin and the religious right; and the fomenter of hate and paranoia; Glenn Beck . Have you forgotten about Gabby Giffords?
http://www.opednews.com/populum/uploaded/hit-list-22149-20130117-632.jpg
Those lunatics are going after the President's children for crying out loud! They couldn't stop there either. They have gotten so outrageously drunk on their ideology from every bounce to nonsense they blatantly announce. Now they are invoking "impeachment".
Why did these wing nuts include the recent "fiscal cliff" debate?
Perhaps, these wing nuts are mad about the coalition Uncle Joe Biden and the President have supporting him and that a Black man was publicly telling Congress to pay their bills.
Despite All The GOP Derangement "Chess-Master" Obama’s Approval Rating is At 55%.
Joe you are very confused about who the "Royal Chinese credit card" belongs to, Congress controls and approves all spending. If the president was the king (that you wish him to be so you could make things as simple as yourself and blame all our woes on one man) then he could spend at will, but he does not, and he cannot, that power is the domain of Congress. Why blame the president because some in Congress who have the sole power to spend, do not wish to pay the tab on what they already approved and spent.
So please tell us all, Outhouse, how do the President's boots taste ?
Is it true Obama wants doctors to do a gun check question of their patients and he now wants this as part of Obamacare ? Will this be required instruction in medical school ??
"Never mind your heart condition, Mrs. Jones ... tell me how many guns you have and what caliber they are". The President wants to know !
Backhouse, well said! President Obama and VP Biden have proposed reasonable, logical, sensible laws aimed at diminishing the number of gun massacres in this country.
The NRA does NOT have the power so many on the right and the media claim. This gun/ammunition manufacturing lobby spent $11 million in 2012 on attack ads aimed at democrats and on ads promoting republicans who bow to their every wish. Yet that $11 million bought them exactly 0.83% success; less than 1% success rate. In other words, $11 million was wasted because people vote for candidates they like and most could care less whether or not the person has an "A" or an "F" rating with the NRA.
The question every legislator must ask themselves is this: What is more important, the loss of the lives of 20 innocent murdered 6 and 7 year olds and the thousands of others dead because of gun violence or their job? If they think their job is more important, if they fear the NRA or the Club for Growth or Grover Norquist or whatever other special interest group threatens them more than they respect a civil society and a nation built on laws for the good of that civil society, then they do not deserve to represent anyone in the first place, let alone be paid by us to do so.
While I agree that getting strong legislation passed through the GOP controlled House will be difficult, it gives me pause as to why so much of the media takes such a pessimistic attitude. Thought this country was the most "can do" one in the world. What about all that "American Exceptional-ism", that ability to focus and do what is right for our children and grandchildren. We used to have that "we can do big things" attitude but the negativity of the radical right seems to have replaced even the media's optimism with fear, gloom and doom.
The law requires that employers provide a safe workplace.
Everywhere but schools, evidently. For schools, we now demand that teachers provide their own safe workplace. Why is that, exactly?
Next thing you know, laws will be enacted giving schools immunity against liability when teachers are killed in mass shootings.
But, hey, that's why they get paid the big bucks, you know?
Question for all the Second Amendment advocates (heard it on the TV last night): If more guns will make us safer then why, since we have more guns per capita than just about anyplace, aren't we already the safest country on earth?
To the contrary, more and more guns have steadily made us into one of the least safe countries on earth. Right on par with places like Colombia, Mexico, and the Phillipines.
Coincidence? I think not.
Ponder that today.
And remember this:
The NRA's overlords do not profit if we're safer. The gun market is already saturated. To produce new business, they have to generate new fear. That's why they tell you that President Obama wants to take away your guns. That's poppycock. And in fact, the NRA doesn't care one bit whether your children die. They've already said they believe it to be inevitable. Why should it be? Because without deaths, there will be no fear. To gun merchants, death is just the cost that society has to pay to increase their business.
Good morning Feisty, Backhouse, Seeking Sanity, David, Job1 and all my other liberal friends. What say you about heading over to the Dew Drop Inn to hoist a few in honor of our beautiful First Lady's Birthday later on???
I'm beaming because two special people have birthdays so close to Dr. Martin Luther King's; the First Lady and my older son. As I told, I believe it was Jody, a couple of years back, my son puts me to shame. He can memorize just about all of Dr. King's quotes.
Good Morning Bev!
Thanks for the reminder on the First Lady's Birthday!
Brings to mind this quote of hers;
I hope homeland security is taking a hard look at the crazy people running the NRA, they are scary !
Histrionics much?
The Constitution is very specific, and the SCOTUS has already ruled that the Second Amendment is an individual right.
Now, we all know that you're so much more intelligent than the rest of us, so I am sure you canexplain in exquisite detail how to disarm the criminals.
so lets see....new law passes outlawing certain guns...law abiding citizens turn in their now illegal guns...how does that change anything for the good? some of you people are real morons!
Jody,
Thank you for reminding us about "that ability to focus and do what is right for our children and grandchildren".
YES WE CAN.
YES WE CAN.
YES WE CAN.
I agree Backhouse. This is the first President, probably ever, that is taking on gun control! For the Republican NRA supporters, we have half the guns on Earth in this country, shouldn't that make us the safest country in the World? Yeh - Right! Your a**hole math is a little off. Guns don't make us safe, they make us more likely to get shot! They also make a lot of money for gun runners. Why doesn't the NRA just change its name to the National Gun Manfacturers Assc.?
Well, Joe finally admits he is clueless on all matters fiscal by asking one of the dumbest finance questions ever posted on FR. But let's put this in terms Joe can understand.
Joe has a electric bill due at noon. Before paying it and knowing he has 15 minutes to kill (doesn't take him long), Joe hires a hooker, she ties him to his bed, steals his checkbook, and walks out the door leaving Joe unable to pay the electric bill by the deadline, causing the power to be shut off. Is Joe a deadbeat for failing to pay his electric bill on time?
Well said Jody, president Obama didn't go as far as I would have, I would have recalled all of those military style semi automatic rifles and extended clips, if you don't comply and you are caught with one then you would be charged with a felony. From that point farther you would not be allowed to own any gun. The fines and prison sentence for having this type weapon and magazine in your possession would be severe.
The only use for these weapons is to kill as many humans as possible in as short a time as possible. There is no need to have them in our civilized society. Next I would go after the machine pistols that are so prevalent on the street killing so many of our nations youth.
The NRA slogan would apply, if you take away the guns only outlaws would have guns, simply put, if you did not turn in these weapons you would be an outlaw. Plain and simple.
Mr. President, please stick by your new gun law plans. Our Country and especially our children need them. I know it will be a tough fight, but your the man to carry the fight to them. I believe you will win this war the majority of the Country is behind you.
And Jim DeMint, who cares what you think, your a has been. you've always been a loser and you keep proving it every time you open your mouth. Just go away.
As a liberal, and semi intelligent person (ok, quit laughing) I really don't see how any of the mandates on gun control would have stopped the horrible Sandy Hook massacre.
Let's pretend, just for a moment, that this wacked out kid drove his mom's hummer through the first grade classroom, killing those kids MUCH faster than entering with a semi or full automatic weapon. What then? Ban Hummers? maybe give mental screenings for those wishing to purchase a hummer?
think about it...
Joe HAHAHAHA
Easy. YOU are the liar. You know very well that raising the debt ceiling is not raising the limit on a credit card. It's Congress agreeing to pay the debt it's already run up on its credit card.
The real moron is the person who believes all problems can be solved with more guns.
We already have more guns than just about any other country on earth. Your having a gun did not prevent Newtown. And since Newtown, nearly 1,000 more people have died from guns including a 15-year-old girl accidentally shot by her brother during a dispute over a video game and two people killed the other day in a drive-by shooting in Kentucky.
And you think that's not moronic?
Appreciate the sentiment, but it's not good enough. I know of several gun murders recently where the person who shot the gun would have passed the fitness test at the time the gun was bought. The murders were heat of the moment situations, not detectible by screening.
Screening might prevent some of the mass shooters from getting guns through ordinary purchase. It would not stop black market sales or even casual sales like the ones that occur on Craig's List. It would not stop third parties from buying the guns for the shooters, as was the case in Columbine.
The entire mythology that only the mentally ill commit murders is merely a smoke screen. To prove that, just consider that the same people who say that are the ones who oppose having to be questioned in order to purchase guns. They don't even believe it themselves.
Most gun murders are not committed by the mentally ill. It's only one part of a much larger problem that can only be solved by not making guns readily available to anyone.
Houston, but when does it stop ? 20 tril-30 tril-40 tril. I cannot see an end to this madness.
One thing for sure, Albany Joe writes fiction. To him and all the naybobbers (we and they who know who they are), judging from the ugly, nasty and hateful lies and distortions you post every day, life in your narrow-shuttered, negative world must truely be miserable; and worse, you probably do your best every day to make life miserable for those around you. They obviously suck on lemons as their sole source of nutrition.
To all the whiners about the deficit and debt, where were you while Bush/Cheney and the GOP raised the debt ceiling six times to cover their rearends for all the UNFUNDED spending they did between 2001-2008? We had a budget surplus for the last 3 Clinton years; we were paying down the debt and along came the GOP spiders who took that surplus and turned it into a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit (which added to the debt) in less than one year. Fiscally responsible? Haven't been since Reagan said deficits don't matter and Cheney repeated it.
And SCOTUS has also ruled that the 2nd Amendment does not apply to all firearms, such as an M-16. Sounds like gun control to me.
Joe, I don't suppose it dawned on you that the social security trust fund and the funding of the Social Security Administration are two separate matters. The only lying going on here is you lying to yourself.
Lil Michelle
Then there wouldn't have been 26 people killed in less than four minutes. There are few head-on auto collisions where the death toll is that high. The ban on 30-round ammunition clips wouldn't have prevented all the deaths, but there very likely would have been fewere people killed in Newtown. In the Tucson shooting, the killer was wrestled to the ground while he was reloading. Unfortunately, in that case, the killer had a 100-round clip, so he already had murdered six people before he had to reload.
Personally, I'd recommend All of Americas Carnival Barkers(formerly known as the MSM)& E1 else to watch Jon Stewarts show from lastnight, ifya really wanna getta handle on the proliferation of Assault weapons flooding the streets of America!
In 10 short minutes, He layed out the extent of the PROBLEM, & make No mistake, It's a Big Problem!
You Betcha!
Occupy SoggyBottom!
Johntho,
Yes in 1998, fifty kinds of semi-automatics were banned.
NOW this 2013 proposal has a different approach:
Its set of proposals are the broadest ever to address the problems facing us - in an holistic way.
Is the NRA the least democratic institution in the US? Appears to be at least in the top ten ... regular little fiefdom.
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/01/nra-board-newtown-bushmaster
In 2013 ALREADY, there have been 22 murders in Chicago, a city with the TOP GUN RESTRICTIONS in the country. Anyone that can explain how having tough gun laws will solve this problem needs to tell me why Chicago is having such a hard time....
The problem is not gun control.
am @1.12 said -- "Everywhere but schools, evidently. For schools, we now demand that teachers provide their own safe workplace. Why is that, exactly?"
well it depends on what schools. we know that the political elite often enroll their kids in schools that do provide armed security but when the nra proposed putting armed security into all schools many on the left including the political elite went nuts.
Anna Molly:
Question for all the Second Amendment advocates (heard it on the TV last night): If more guns will make us safer then why, since we have more guns per capita than just about anyplace, aren't we already the safest country on earth?
Hey sorry to tell you this we are safer.
Lets just look at the UK=77% increase in violent crime since guns were ban. Now called the violent crime capital of Europe.
Lets look at Australia= rose 42.2 percent in violent crime since its gun ban was put into place. by the way a women in Australia is 3 times more likely to be raped then a women in America.
Avg American: Hey NRA, why do you not support universal background checks, sharing of information by govt agencies, and gun violence research?
NRA: Because they dont work to prevent violence.
Avg American: How do you know that?
NRA: I just do. It is also a bad idea because Obama/Biden proposed it.
Avg American: Any research to back up your claim?
NRA: No because research data is irrelevant. That's why we lobbied to prevent the govt from doing any.
That's pretty much what I hear from these groups today. Lets keep putting them on tv and see how the poll numbers continue to improve on this subject so then we can hear them say... "Well poll numbers dont matter."
Who was the last group of people that thought the same? I forget what campaign that was...
jim #'s -- Fact is doctors have been asking about guns in the home for years now. Had to answer that question when changing pediatricians and had to answer that question for my mom on a doctors form a month or so ago. Are you that clueless?
Steven B -- Two questions for you. Where do the guns come from that criminals use? And how do you keep the guns out of the hands of criminals?
Well isn't a tough sell? Yes selling nothing is usuallly a tough sell.
One thing I thought was lacking in Obama's proposal is a limit on the number of guns that one can buy within a given time period. Someone who buy 20 guns in one months is most likely a straw purchaser for gang bangers or a drug cartel. Of course, it's as unlikely that could get through the current tea bag infested Congress as any of the common-sense measures Obama and Biden did propose.
Universal background checks have such overwhelming public support that if anything does get through Congress, that would be it. Of course, even then, Boehner would have to violate the "majority of the majority" rule again. But he's already done it twice now (to his credit) with the Sandy relief and the fiscal cliff votes, so he may do it again. He'll HAVE to do it again if he really wants to avert another global recession that the Congressional tea baggers are intent on creating by refusing to pay the nation's debts.
Lil Michelle
Pretend time is over. A Hummer wasn't used. A Bushmaster AR-15 was.
The proposals the President outlined yesterday are quite reasonable and just a first step. As the President also said, Congress has the responsibility to do the heavy lifting here.
When crazed teenagers and psycho adults start using Hummers at the rate they are using assault weapons, then we'll have a nationwide converstion over that.

@Houston!
Wrong! Do you understand how ANYTHING works? Raising the debt limit allows more borrowing, period!
By the way most of the nations with stricter gun control laws have violent rates that are equal to, or greater than that of the United States and those Nations have way fewer people living in them then the US.

This line was enough to ensure i dont read any further. Saugen sie meinen Sturmgewehr Davide LOL
But hey AM, Davide, Ikarus, Mickey and the rest of you that have a little more intelligence than the rest of your libtard zombies. Please do tell what Obama's symbolic signing of 'regulations' would have done to prevent any school shootings?
good so my anectdotal evidence shows that I know a few gun owners that prevented mass deaths. Semantics and skewed interpretations indeed
If guns kill people and people don't then why not throw the gun in jail and keep the idiot who used the gun out on your streets.
Jim, one of the executive orders from yesterday merely clarifies that the Affordable Care Act does not make it illegal for a physician to ask about guns in a patient's home. A second executive order clarifies that there is no law that prevents a physician from reporting threats of violence to authorities. The NRA said we had to do something about "the lunatics". Seems to me they're going to get what they want.
In 2011, Governor Rick Scott passed a law in Florida that would have made it illegal for a physician to ask about a gun in a patient's home. A federal judge ruled that law was unconstitutional...in essence, enacting a violation of the First Amendment as it prevented physicians from discussing certain subject matter. An injunction was issued to prevent implementation of the law.
Think of it this way...if you take little Jimmy to a psychiatrist or psychologist and that practitioner says little Jimmy's got some behavioral health issues why should a discussion about that rifle you have in your closet be off limits? Maybe somewhere in that discussion and the course of little Jimmy's treatment we prevent little Jimmy from taking that rifle to school and shooting up his classmates...or from shooting you...or from shooting himself.
So according to this administration it is illegal for local law enforcement to enforce federal laws, see immigration. Will it be illegal for local law enforcement to enforce these laws?
Keep picking and choosing Big O.
One thing for sure, Albany Joe writes fiction. To him and all the naybobbers (we and they who know who they are), judging from the ugly, nasty and hateful things you post every day, life in your narrow-shuttered, negative world must truely be miserable; and worse, you probably do your best every day to make life miserable for those around you. Personally, I like this one --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rat
I'm just talking about gun related deaths, by the way. Not violence in general. Without guns, people don't die from accidental shootings or drive-by shootings or random shootings, like the one at Newtown, or your standard mall shooting.
Ironically, without a gun, I'm willing to bet that the pistol-packing soccer mom would still be alive today. Her gun was either used against her, or her husband's gun trumped hers, in a heat-of-the-moment shooting that no background check would have prevented.
Without a gun, a 15-year-old girl in Milwaukee, accidentally killed by her brother during a dispute over a video game, would still be alive.
Without a gun, a police officer in suburban Milwaukee would still be alive today. While armed herself, she was shot 5 times by her jealous ex-Marine husband right outside the police station. I'm willing to bet he would have passed a background check.
Without a gun, two completely unrelated people would not have died at a local spa during a recent domestic violence killing near Milwaukee. The shooter killed his estranged wife and then randomly took two others with him before turning the gun on himself.
What's your point, anyway?
Yes. Stop wallowing in moral cowardice.
rukidding47
If cars kill people, then why don't we put the car in jail instead of the drunk driver?
Lil Michelle
Lil, do you think it is that hard to buy a trunk load of guns in Virginia and then transport them to Chicago?
ThomasGrande,
The AR-15 was not used sorry to tell you they just want you to believe that so Obama can take guns away.
There is a news video on you tube you need to go watch it.
The news helicopter was watching the car when the cops open the trunk and guess what they pulled out yep the AR-15 they said that was used. And then you see the cops unloading it.
So they have lied to you and to the American people and used the death of those kids for their own agenda...
So now go watch it then tell me what you see.
This is nothing more than an Obama way to be a dictator take the guns away then he will have the control.
Albany Joe, isnt it funny how people like you and I and many others are disgruntled redneck knuckledraggers. Yet Fisty and Bev the racist spout off their Kind posts and Jody seems to be ignorant to it?
so if im vile according to one poster does that make Feisty mother theresa? Dont bother answering, we already know.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL---You have the perfect plan with one little flaw, without the guns you do not have any security or freedom. Guns are like free speech, you get the free speech and the disagreement that goes with it. Under your rules you would get the free speech and I would not because you do not like what I say, at that point it is no longer free speech. Maybe you could read that a few times so you understand. I do not like guns killing people but the second I remove the guns I have taken away the right to own them for everyone. No more free speech. Obama's goal is not to ban guns outright, he wants to take them away one bullet at a time and like that free speech, his goal is to end it completely. All you have to do is read the article Chuck Todd explains the plan very well and the worst part is he is not even trying to hide it.
blackcatwhitecat - Do you think it is hard to carry Three 10 round clips vs. One 30 round?
blackcatwhitecat
BCWC it likely isn't, but that isn't the case resulting in a high murder rate. The locals who are purchasing guns are going to places where they can purchase them. Also likely not the case that's resulting in the high murder rate.
Most of the guns involved in these murders I'm guessing aren't legally owned guns. The reason for that is that many of the murders are being committed by people who can't legally own a gun in the first place because they are felons. That is why many who are seen as "gun nuts" are pointing to Chicago and saying "legislation isn't the issue".
what weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks LOL
Without a gun this woman and her kids would be dead.

Around 4 a.m., Ronald Sleisher was awakened in his home north of Neosho Rapids, Kans., by the sound of banging at the door and breaking glass. Sleisher retrieved a gun, went to investigate and discovered two intruders. Sleisher fired at the pair, striking one. The homeowner then held the other burglar at gunpoint until police could arrive.
The wounded home invader was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. (KVOE, Emporia, Kans. 01/02/13)
Want me to go on?
Leatherneck, you lie, your feet stink and you don't love Jesus. Violent crime is practically nil in Canada, England and Australia. Do the research, I have.
No one that I am aware of with the power to do so has done copious studies on the demographics of violence using guns--AND how they happened to come into possession of said guns.
I'm confident that once it is presented who it is that commits violent acts with guns, and in what context, that sensible "gun control" can be implemented. Banning types of hardware will not do much to curb homicides.
Knowing how to keep guns away from children, criminals and unstable people is the only thing that will do any good. I recommend that a law is passed to require gun owners to secure their own guns in a reasonable manner such that they are not easily stolen or picked up by kids or other unresponsible people.
Let's use our heads.
Johntho
Johntho, just for the sake of clarity, you mean violent gun crime, right?
Or do you mean violent crime in general? If that is the case, what are you classifying as violent crime? The numbers on assaults and other crimes might be surprising to you, particularly in England.
I think it would be political suicide if Congress does not pass these regulations. In fact I think guns should be licensed like cars where if you sell your gun you have to do a transfer of license. This way all guns are registered and if a gun is used that is not registered, you get 2 x the sentence you would have gotten otherwise.
I know there are a lot of people out there who think passing this will help them sleep safer at night but it really won't. People breaking the law will continue to break the law that is why they are called criminals. I have no problem with some common sense gun control but the simple fact is these changes won't make you safer. 99% of all gun fatalities are from hand guns not Assault weapons. The chance that your child will be killed in a school shooting are the same as him being struck by lightning. There is no answer that will make you safe from crazy.
OldDog47
Yes. You obviously don't. Despite the lies being peddled by Joe HAHAHA and crooked Republican "leaders," raising the debt ceiling gives the government the authority to pay off debts already incurred. It's not a "blank check" for the president to spend more money, as Mitch McConnell lied.
Morgs74
I wouldn't know. I have held a semi-auto handgun but once in my life and hated the false sense of security and projected power. I get my man card in bed.
I really see alot of uneducated posts today. Anyone who thinks that this administration is the right thing for this country is insane, literally. No budget, out of control spending, and now, disgustingly using children as props to tug at heart strings to get a meaningless gun ban through congress, really? Kids, kids, kids, assault rifles, assault rifles, assault rifles...........sorry people, its just not true. The Newton killings are pure evil and unthinkable. But, that was the first time it has happened with an assault rifle (No, Columbine did not use assault rifles). The problem is not gun control, its gun violence. Taking away assault rifles (used in less than 2% of shootings) is pure bs. Using kids for a gun grab is pure bs. The problem is our violent culture. Obama is a huge failure, in all aspects, and the brain washing is really a sad thing to watch. Wake up! Our government has failed us for the last 20 years. Get off the kool aid people.
wonder if any of you uberlibs that hate guns would be willing to put up a sign in your yard that says No Guns Here.
LMAO, what an uneducated retard Jethro. let me get that drool off your face...there ya go sunshine
BCWC, they don't have to go that far, they get their guns legally in Indiana, and WI, and Iowa. just a few minutes away from downtown. The statement that most murders are committed by felons is absolutely false. Most murders are crimes of passion, that is a problem with open carry and even concealed permits. The gun is available, so they get used. The statistic that sticks in my mind is a person is 22 times more likely to suffer a wound or death from their own gun then to be shot or killed in a break in.
Johntho, thank you and well said to you, too.
Albany Joe writes fiction for sure. He accuses me of being an angry, bitter person today...well, HAHAHAHAHA to Albany Joe, but it just isn't true. He hates it when I point out his "pious baloney", and then uses the Rovian tactic of calling me what he is. You conservatives are so predictable. Have another lemon.
but you have to pack the ton feathers down to the size of a ton of bricks to lift it ... use wax.
that would be over advertising where I live ... it is really pleasant knowing that shot one hears is just a car backfiring.
By your logic then why do we have any laws at all, because someone out there will ignore that law and do it anyways. Example, we have stop signs and someone will ignore it and run the stop sign and run someone over with a car. So why have a stop sign in the first place since you can't 100 percent get everyone to adhere to it? Reason is because most are law biding citizens and so you make the laws for them in a civilized society and then the few that do not obey go to prison. That's why you make these laws concerning high capacity magazines and assault rifles that people don't need anyways.
Repo, I am not going to get in a pissing match with you. I said violent crime. Those statistic's are available, go look. My eyes were wide open when I read the Toronto Star in about 1995 late in the year and their had been only 5 killings and if I remember there was only one by gunshot in the city of Toronto that year. Don't believe me, prove me wrong.

Johntho: No I did not lie. Violent crime in counties that ban guns is as high or higher then the USA. If you look at the US population and there population you will see with 99% of those nations the USA has way more people. Now I know this is hard MATHEMATICS, you will see the US per population is way safer and has way less crime per person in the US then the other nations.
blackcatwhitecat - I will take that as a concession.
Be proud of your sexual prowess because the intellectual prowess is clearly not your strong point.
On January 20, 2009, this particular republican congress, yes, many have been re-elected since then, and they've added a few more, this republican congress has no intention at all to work with President Obama's administration. Every, and anything he puts forward they will fight and attempt to deny.
Forget the "assault weapons, high capacity magazines" ban, they hate this President so much they are preparing to cook, and eat one of their own (Chuck Hagel) and it's only because President Obama will nominate him for Dec Def.
People that believe they need high capacity, fully automatic assault weapons to protect their homes or themselves from criminals are no better than "drive-by" gunners. What are you going to do, empty a 30 round clip in your house at a burgler? How many rounds will hit him, and how many will hit your neighbors next door, or across the street? What will you call your neighbors, collateral damage?
I'm not, nor have I ever been a member of the NRA, nothing but a group of terrorist on their own, but I do own weapons, none high-capacity, automatic assault weapons. I'm a "one-shot" type of guy.
Door hanger, do you know the difference between a law abiding citizen and a criminal is often one squeeze of the trigger. While, this will never go away, minimizing the impact should be a priority. There is no magic bullet in this case but the presidents proposals is at least a starting point. Much farther along then the NRA/GOP's absolute zero.
brenda1964 - One of your ilk tried to use that same reasoning with me yesterday. There are meaningful laws and there are garbage laws that only add to bureaucratic. Apart from the mental illness part of these suggestions, the rest is fluff and nothing but feel good stuff.
Your emotional knee-jerk reactions will be sated surely but this will solve nothing.
It's apparent that it really bothers you to no end that Obama is the President. I can hear it clearly in your post that you can't handle it that Obama is the President. It sounds like you almost want to cry. Well, guess what, President Obama is the President and was voted in by the Majority, electoral, popular, and all the swing states. So even though you are against a black man being President, the majority of the people in the United States disagree with you.
Now to speak of uneducated posts. You do realize that you do not start a sentence with the word but? Also Great Britain has a violent society as well, but passed even more severe gun laws then the US. Would it surprise you to know that last year in Great Britain there was only 35 reported incidents regarding gun violence compared to the USA that had over 11,000 reported incidents?
Oh and I noticed you where upset at President Obama using children in the background as being bad, but you say nothing about NRA using the Presidents kids to make a statement. Pot, meet kettle.
Morgs74
Take it for what you will. Your ideology is your blindness, mine is mine.
Ouch .. I cry now.
Leatherneck, so you admit that your feet stink and you don't love Jesus then. The truth is not in your right wing London paper. Nor your right wing bull @!$%# site. Admittedly, I am more familiar with Canada, but we can argue London if you like. A city bigger then N.Y. with nearly twice as many people has less violent crime then most all of our large city's. In Australia violent crime actually dropped considerably. Like it or not I still suspect all three things when I talk to a Marine.
Moshuluu,
People that believe they need high capacity, fully automatic assault weapons to protect their homes or themselves from criminals are no better than "drive-by" gunners.
Really This is what you think I want my 30 round clip for or all the people? Sorry you are wrong I have a pistol for home defense and everyone else.
I need my 30 round clip so when your God Obama tries his dictator crap I have a way to defend myself from him and you..
Any one that tries to change or alter the Constitution is tyranny and should be shot....

Every time a tragedy occurs, there are renewed appeals for gun regulation. However, the calls disappointingly always fail.
Regulation of private gun ownership has been a sensitive issue in the U.S. for a long time. Americans own 280 million guns, with 34 percent of U.S. families possessing the deadly weapon.
Centering on issues such as whether citizens can bear arms, and whether the government has the right to ban guns, the opposing camps have debated hotly for years.
Electoral politics is another important reason for the failure of gun control efforts. The Democratic Party has historically paid a price for its gun control efforts.
Many people can't help but turn to the dim hope once again: the gunman's cruelty and evil may provide a strong momentum and broader public support for the restart of gun control efforts. Moreover, with no re-election pressure, President Obama is currently in the best position to promote it.

I realize that logic is something you would not like to hear so therefor you dismissed it out of hand. Just because you say a law is garbage does not make it so. Your emotional knee-jerk reaction is just what I would expect from a Republican who is upset that President Obama won re-election. You really need to get over it and move on, because your starting to look sad.

BTW, the Sam's are greatly improved with a squeeze of a wedge of lime, never lemon.
Lil Michelle asked a very straight forward question to which she received a response from Anna Molly. She asked how any new law would have prevented the Newtown killings.
Anna Molly made the comment: Most gun murders are not committed by the mentally ill. It's only one part of a much larger problem that can only be solved by not making guns readily available to anyone.
That sentiment is why so many people will continue to resist the push being made by the president and so many on the extreme left. What is happening now is merly the tip of the iceberg (so to speak). What is becoming clearly evident is that many in the country want nothing less than to abolish the 2nd amendment. In my opinion that may not be a bad thing, but it certainly will not prevent the problem of irresponsible gun ownership.
It is very easy to see that murders caused by people using guns is out of control. But there will never be a way (in my opinion) to end this problem in this country even if gun sales were banned. Just because something isn't easy to do doesn't prevent it from being done.
Gun/ammunition sales are currently skyrocketing. Membership in the NRA is on the increase of late. This alone should be an alert that there are a large group of people that will never turn in their guns or stop buying them even if it means breaking the law. It is very similar to a drug addiction.
Blackcatwhitecat then made a comment (#1.33) asking if the NRA was the least democratic institution in the country and made the comment that it appears to be at least in the top ten. I'm not saying it is or isn't. But I do want to point out something.
About 5 years ago in San Francisco there was a proposition (proposition H) on the ballot. It was measure that would ban gun sales in the city. It passed. The new law went into effect at the start of the next year. Similarly, Chicago and D.C. passed the restrictions of the same sort. The NRA went to court about the San Francisco law. The law was overturned as was an appeal of the ruling. The reason was because CA has a law which stipulates that no city could do what SF tried to do.
I'm sorry, but when a city/county/state tries to do what was done in SF which superseded other law, that is not very democratic in my opinion. There are not many people who could afford to fight city hall with personal wealth. Had the NRA not stepped in the city would have been able to do what they wanted even though it was not lawful.
Good bad or indifferent to the NRA, all of us can see that the restrictions on guns in Chicago, D.C. and SF have certainly not ended gun violence in those cities. Furthermore, I doubt that any law changes in the future will end gun crimes or even significantly slow them down.
How many times have you heard that the weapon used in a murder had the serial number ground away? How many of the gangbangers purchased their weapons using all of the lawful means required by law?
As I finish this long winded statement let me also say this. I would be completely in favor of this country not having guns in the hands of so many irresponsible people. The sad fact is that I doubt that will ever happen. I say that because I know that people cross our borders illegally all the time. It's against the law to do so. Drugs are manufactured/grown here against the law. Drugs are brought into this country on a daily basis against our laws. How would any law prevent people from obtaining guns illegally should they desire to buy them?
First off we are not a civilized society.
Our modern society is at the most 70 years old.
How is this going to make us safer? If we go after law abiding citizens and make them outlaws. That is true freedom.
We are using drones to kill women and children. Where is the out rage on that? Chicago had 505 homicides last year. What has been done to address that?
We have papers publishing where people live. How is that a good thing?
Our country is going to hit a brick wall on our debt. People do not feel safe, that is why they own guns.
Our debt is closing in on 25% of the worlds GDP. When will we stop running up debt? At what point does the world economy collapse due to this debt?

By all means call the police, let your dictator in cheif call for the armed forces. They are by overwhelming majority, CONSERVATIVES who believe in the 2nd ammendment rights. They ARE US. They will not shoot at their brothers, sisters, neighbors and friends. They took an oath to fight enemies FORIEGN AND DOMESTIC and Obama's horsesh!t agenda is a domestic enemy.

OldDog, wrong. The debt ceiling is money Congress ALREADY approved and spent (not just that since Jan 20, 2009, but the debt of all the previous Congresses that came before it) plus the interest incurred on that debt. If we want to reduce the deficit and eliminate the need to raise the debt ceiling, then that must be done by Congress with current and future spending bills. The Genie is already out of the bottle with the debt. If a person fails to pay the mortgage on the money borrowed to buy the house in which one lives, that person defaults and goes into foreclosure. If Congress fails to pay its mortgage on the money it borrowed, then the entire USA defaults and goes into foreclosure. You do not want to see that happen. Defaulting on what Congress already spent would make 2008 look like a walk in the park on a sunny day.
Nothing like a death threat to start your day. Good thing this crackpot wasn't around when all those pesky amendments were written.

Nearly ten years after his tragic death at the hand of his abusive mother Rafael’s surviving siblings are having problems of their own with the State Department of Social and Health Services, according to the boy’s oldest sister.
“We look so happy, but it’s not really like this,” said 20 year old Maria Gomez as she looked at a photo of herself with her four sisters and brothers.
“I would love from them to go into a stable home that loves them, that actually wants them,” says Gomez.

2006 Canada Violent crime rate 12.6% were violent crimes.
Canada's Population in 2006=31,612,897
So that means 2,508,960 people in Canada were victims of violent crimes.
Can’t find the population of the US in 2006 but I will use 2010 308,745,538
Violent crime rate that year was 22.5 means 13,722,023 people in the USA were victims of violent crime.
Pop differences USA= 308,745,538
Canada=31,612,897
=277,132,641 more people in the USA or X 9.8 more people in the USA then Canada.
13,722,023 USA Victims of Violent crime
2,508,960 Canada, so if Canada had the same amount of people living there as here, then that would mean they would then in 2006 had appox 24,587,808 victims of violent crime.
So just going off the amount of population of both countries Canada has almost twice as Much Violent crime per population then the USA. DAM don’t you libs just hate Math.

Harry Reid has already said he is NOT going to subject his members to a vote in the Senate on any legislation that will not pass the House, and put Senators on record as voting FOR 2nd. Amendment Restrictions....Pocket - Veto Harry is trying to save Democrats up for re-election in 2014 from having to defend this kind of vote.....THAT is why P.0bama knows this is all for show....He can't even get his own to get on board...
Same reasoning ol'Harry won't pass a Budget in the Senate.....Then they will have votes on record to defend.....All 3 of P.0bama's Budget Proposals got ZERO votes in the House and Senate....
If only their guns also shot blanks, we'd all be safer.

Your numbers about Canada are bull@!$%#
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/07/24/crime-stats-canada.html
PUBLIC SAFETY Crime rates continue to fall across Canada As well, the severity of crime index, which tracks the extent of serious crime in Canada, also declined by six per cent last year. There were two million Criminal Code violations reported in 2011 — 110,000 fewer than in 2010. Police services also reported about 424,400 incidents of violent crime, a drop of 14,800 over the year before. For several years now, violent crimes in Canada have accounted for about 20 per cent of the offences reported by police.
I don't understand the background check/wait period debate. Those requirements have been in place since the Clinton administration and they haven't prevented gun violence. Granted, there may be loopholes in some states, but the mass shootings have happened in states with strict regulation. What gives?
Johntho
This isn't any sort of attempt at any sort of match. If we are talking amount of crimes, yes, US will have more violent crimes with it's considerably larger population. The part that I am concerned with is rate, where England has a much higher incidence of assault by percentage of population.
That's why I was asking for you to specify. If we're referring to murder, then yes it's lower. If we're referring to assault/rape/other violent crimes, the numbers change considerably. I was only attempting to fully understand where you are coming from in terms of what you are considering violent crime. It makes it easier to break down by classification in terms of "this versus that" when I know what metric you are using.
Apologies if it came off as something different.
sure David because you are sure to get resistance from those that are ardent supporters of your ideology. Echo Chamber much. You didnt ask for my approval you asked us crazy gun nuts to read. You almost sound like Barry Obama. Passive aggressive condescending arrogant snob. do enjoy

The wait period is to stop someone who's blown their top and is about to get a gun and do something they would regret. I really have no issue with this idea whatsoever. If you want to get a gun to shoot at a range or otherwise, submit to the background check and the supposed "cooling off period". If you still want that gun after the wait period expires you can purchase it.
Ever seen someone outrageously angry for a couple hours? Ever done something you absolutely regret while mad? So have a lot of people.
Background checks should start with the nuts running the NRA !!!
You wanna talk gun control. On Dec. 29, 1890 the government and soldiers walked into an Indian en campment and demanded the Indians turn over their guns. The obeyed. Guns turned over to govt. Then the govt. proceeded to massacre unarmed men, women and children. Approx. killed 300. This was called the Wounded Knee Massacre.......
BCWC, the Marine is getting his nit picked numbers from right wing sights and they mean very little. He admits his feet stink and he don't love Jesus, but you will never get a Marine to admit they are liars.
nomoresameo, while I understand your point, my own view is that failing to try to diminish the violence is admitting defeat. The fact that we have 50 different state gun laws, not to mention the thousands of additional city/town laws results in purchases in states where the laws are lax and selling the guns in the states where the laws are more restrictive (gun running). The point of federal laws is to level the playing field so that every state's laws must meet the minimum laws established by the federal government.
NY passed the most restrictive gun laws in the country this week but it will not prevent people from buying guns in Virginia or Arizona and transporting them across state lines to sell illegally.
OSHA regulations do not prevent every work-related injury or death but those regulations have diminished the numbers, the frequency and the severity. No law can predict or prevent the human element but failing to pass laws and regulations to limit the human element factor is simply a failure of will to try; it is admitting defeat without attempting a solution.
@ Moshuluu
Yes I believe I can survive just fine seeing I was in the army and had training. See I am not an idiot and would not stand there like a deer in headlights shooting at them.

They will not shoot their brothers, neighbors and friends. They will see the tyranny starting and turn on Obama. Count on it. I would love to see the unarmed fruitcake liberals go against well armed citizens, many of whom will have just recieved world class military training. Armed citizens who also know all the in depth secrets and vulnerabilities of the military that remains, because they were just part of it days prior.
Best of all is only rightwing nut jobs with tinfoil hats save up, stock up and prepare for these things. Just wait until the large citites of ignorant heards of libtards run out of resources (food, water, gasoline). They will turn on eachother before we ever have to shoot a single round.

Violent crime may be around 13 million...but that covers fist fights at school, slaps to the face at home, etc, etc.
-
13,000 murders are committed each year in the U.S. with firearms.
75% are accomplished with semi-auto pistols.
The last 25% is Shotguns, Assault rifles, etc, etc.
13,000 murders....330 Million people...each American has a .00004 chance of being killed a year.

Lil Michelle
here is your #1 problem: you fail to realize that people of Chicago have cars and other means of transportation to leave Chicago...Unless you have one, federal law for all 50 states and DC, what one city or state does is as relevant as what the neighbors do.
Let me give you an example:
Massachusetts requires all cars to be insured with a state required minimum. NH does not. For years, some drivers from NH who had no car insurance would enter Mass roads , and cause accidents. Since they had no insurance, the insured Mass driver would get stuck with paying to fix the car (whether through ins and/or deductible) causing Mass insurance rates to go up.
Mass said enough and it is illegal for any driver from any state to enter Massachusetts roads with no car insurance. Your car will be towed if stopped.
People will always find loopholes, so we need to take them away. Will that fix it 100%? No, noothing ever is 100% (except death, I guess) but if we use that as an excuse not to change status quo, we might as well give up the drunk driving laws because they don't prevent 100% of drunks from driving.
Repo, how many mass slayings in England last year? Canada? Australia? U.S. as far as "other" violent crime, it has nothing to do with the subject at hand, and I won't argue with you about it.
Oh Nooooooooo!!!!... What a disappointing day for the imbeciles!! I'm sorry that jack-booted thugs didn't come knocking at your compound doors to yank the second amendment out from under your feet like a cheap throw-rug!! I know how much you were counting on that to satisfy your psychosis.

That is particularly why I was asking. There's a very large difference between Mass Murder and Assault but both are classified as "violent crimes". That was why I was requesting clarification on your stance.
Of course the Emperor's silly proposals are going to be a "tough sell", because there are enough people who realize that they will do absolutely nothing to solve the violence problem. Of course, the Emperor will still have the loud, arrogant support of his mindless subjects who rant absolutely inane crap.... like chick binder. starting with Wayne "Warlord" LaPierre. I hear that he might have used a doctor's note stating he was not able to go to war because of psychological issues...
Joe in Albany "Lefty liberals seem to be REALLY, REALLY confused about the status of Social Security’s finances."
The vast majority of Americans are 'confused about the status of Social Security’s finances.'
Here's the reality;
Over the last 50 years (since Lyndon Johnson), the government has taken all of the money that was collected in taxes and put into each person's 'Individual Trust Account', and spent it - pretending that it's just another 'Revenue Source', and giving IOUs in return. The total to date is about $2.7 Trillion that has now been 'borrowed and spent'.
That $2.7 Trillion, which is supposed to make the Social Security system 'self sustaining' for the next 25 years isn't really there - it's been spent. What this means is that current workers will not only have to pay taxes to fund their future retirement, but they will also have to re-pay those 'borrowed' funds back as well with additional taxes - effectively paying them twice.
The really shameful thing that is happening is that Obama is using that as a 'club' to get his way in the Debt crisis by saying 'If I don't get my way, I may have to delay paying Social Security retirees so I can pay the Debt payments on time and avoid a "Default'.
The question I have is "Why is it more important to make the debt payments to the Chinese on time, but it's not important to pay back those borrowed 'Trust Funds' to retirees on time?"
It seems to me that our retired seniors, who have 'invested' in Social Security for their entire lives to have money to live on should during retirement should have a higher priority than those 'fat cat' Chinese who are taking our jobs away.
Strict constitutionalists seem inconsistent with their interpretation of the 2nd amendment. The very same posters who believe the 2nd provides constitutionally-guaranteed unlimited and unregulated access to weapons also are some of the loudest advocates of mental-health-based access restrictions. This to me is not logical - if you believe the language of the 2nd does not allow restriction of weapon types, quantities, etc.. then you would also have to concede there is nothing in the amendment that allows restriction to weapons based upon mental condition, criminal record, so on and so forth.
I sincerely believe the constitution can not stand without the government it defines (and vice-versa). Therefore the constitution and its amendments are necessarily subject to interpretation and revision. The present debate over the 2nd demonstrates this so very vividly.
bayllie "Read the letters, Roy, and then YOU stop using these kids for your propaganda."

My point is that while there are instances when a gun owner does use his firearm for self protection, instances like the one I quote are far more common, not to mention instances when a gun owner uses his weapon to end his own life. Gun rights organization like to talk about the type of instance Ray quotes, but the other type, not so much. The NRA opposes research on gun violence because the facts show that you are safer not owning a gun than you are owning one.
There are many in this country promoting a climate of fear for their own agendas. They would have us believe that we all need guns to protect ourselves, either from criminals intent on doing us harm, or from a government intent on oppressing us. We are the government, and the odds of being a victim of a crime are far lower than gun rights organization and their political allies have convinced us to be the case. We are beginning a discussion of violent video games, movies, and other forms of making violence into entertainment, but we also need to talk about the fear-mongers who showcase doomsday preppers, crime solvers, etc, who create the illusion that we are likely to be victims.

yet, the Republicans, cowards that they are, would not even vote on the 2 bills that would change the tax code that right now REWARDS companies for sending jobs to China.
S. 3364 (Bring Jobs Home Act ) A bill to provide an incentive for businesses to bring jobs back to America.
S. 3816 (Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act ) A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to create American jobs and to prevent the offshoring of such jobs overseas.
Why are the Republicans so against rewarding companies that bring jobs back? And why do they want to CONTINUE to reward companiess that offshore? Why is that?
Jon Stewart had a very interesting piece on his show last night regarding the gun control debate. See http://www.thedailyshow.com/
There are indeed laws on the books that address many if the points put forward by the President. Many of them were in fact co-authored by the NRA.
Stewart's piece also pointed out that many of the tools available to address gun related crimes cannot be implemented. Why? Because the NRA had them specifically blocked! So, there is no national database of gun-related crimes, among other things. Perhaps the department responsible should do something about this. Stewart then pointed out that the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and FIREARMS) Department is ineffective because they are operating under a temporary director who also has another job. Congess will not approve a permanent director!
There are laws available, and there is a department and an administrive position already designated. But the Republicans and the NRA have conspired to ensure that neither can function.
Bunch of sissy LA LA"s. Nothing but a bunch of liberal sheeple parrot-speak spewing across the Internet as usual. Those of you crying about "save the children" are the worst kinks of hypocrites. That line coming from a misguided evil cult where you think nothing about someone reaching inside a womans womb to rip the head off an unborn child, or scrambling that unborn child into a creamy froth, then sucking it out with a vacuum. You murder thousands of children every year yet you use a disaster like Sandyhook to strip the constitution because your elitist gang bosses tell you to. Such a pathetic sorry, lot all of you.
Interesting observation from the Study referenced in Post #1.149;
"The potential defensive nature of guns is indicated by the different rates of so-called "hot burglaries," where residents are at home when the criminals strike (e.g., Kopel, 1992, p. 155 and Lott, 1994). Almost half the burglaries in Canada and Britain, which have tough gun control laws, are "hot burglaries." By contrast, the U.S., with laxer restrictions, has a "hot burglary" rate of only 13 percent. Consistent with this, surveys of convicted felons in America reveals that they are much more worried about armed victims than they are about running into the police. This fear of potentially armed victims causes American burglars to spend more time than their foreign counterparts "casing" a house to ensure that nobody is home. Felons frequently comment in these interviews that they avoid late-night burglaries because "that's the way to get shot."[8]"
Anna Molly,
But isn't reducing violence the point? If we lower gun related violent crime, but overall violent crime increases, what have we accomplished?
I really don't care if a crazy may try to kill my family with a gun, a knife or a Hummer - what I care about is reducing the likelihood of the crazy making the attempt.
Based on the statistics many have posted here, it appears stricter gun controls can actually increase violent crime rates. Personally, I'd like to see some more studies to see if this is really true, but if they are, why would we change laws to effectively increase the rates of violent crimes?
bayllie "yet, the Republicans, cowards that they are, would not even vote on the 2 bills that would change the tax code that right now REWARDS companies for sending jobs to China."
Nice try at a distraction, but why should that justify Obama threatening to hold Social Security checks 'hostage', while making sure to pay the Chinese?
By the way - Companies do not get a 'REWARD' for moving their company overseas - The only REWARD is being able to make things cheaper. You make it sound like the government gives companies some kind of 'bonus' for moving, which is not the case at all - in fact, it's normally a very expensive task, but the long term benefits are expected to compensate for the high short term expenses.
where do you want to start Denni? I believe the phrase it take OUT not down. and begin Alpha Male
Q22 you're right. Those figures represent what happened from Day One of the President's term. See he inherited the mess from Bush and is working to fix it. You don't stop food stamps to people without jobs - you know, the platform the Republicans ran on in 2010 then promptly dropped as soon as they got into office.
All of the increases are a result of the mess Bush left. Remember, we bled 700,000 jobs the last month he was in office - were losing about that many for several months before. Now, we're gaining jobs, slowly but we're gaining. And, had the Republicans in Congress not refused to even look at the jobs proposals the President put forth - 7 of them - we would be doing better.
So, when you're pointing fingers at the mess we have now - point them at the Republicans in Congress who are at fault. Oh, that's right - doesn't fit your idiotic agenda does it?
Bayllie, Wayne militant LaPierre has more than psychological issues, its goes way beyond that, this dude is a loose cannon !!!
Sabbot & Heat and other gun advocates
OK, I get it, violence is inevitable, but, nothing about those dead kids bothers you enough to want to try something? Stricter DUI laws have cut down on deaths by drunk drivers, so why not try some of these things? I do not see anything the President (and he is not alone in this) that really stops you from being able to have as many damn guns as you want. You just might not be able to buy a particular thing. Would that harm you so much?
I am glad we are a well armed society and I think people should have the right to buy as many guns as they can afford but to not have any kind of limitations on the kinds of weapons and maybe making it a little harder to get your hands on one illegally will help; why not try it?
A "Tough Sell" ? LOL ! I guess that $elling $hit in a paper bag is a pretty tough sell ... but Obama has SO MUCH EXPERIENCE doing that !!!
Where are the spending cuts, Mr. President ? You campaigned on a "balanced approach" of increased taxes for the wealthy along with spending cuts .... where are the cuts Mr. Obama ?? Did you LIE yet again ???
Johntho,
I think your earlier comment was correct as well.
The U.S. is the most violent country of all industrialized countries -- with more guns deaths than all of them COMBINED.

Oh, Roy, Roy, Roy. Reading your daily posts is certainly an exercise is keeping up my skills at rolling my eyes. It makes me wonder if, during the 60s, in your never ending pursuit of following Alice down the rabbit hole, you dropped far to many tabs of acid. Let's begin by clearly stating, this is NOT REALITY:
However, you do ask an interesting but very misguided question at the end of your World According to Roy Fable.
Roy, the question should really be, how does the government prioritize who gets paid first. Is it fair to pay retirees before Federal employees. After all, employees are needed to cut the checks for both groups of people. Employees take care of those nuclear silos; do we let them walk off the job, allowing any rouge nut job ready access to the most dangerous weapons? Do we tell our troops engaged in combat to lay down their arms and start walking and/or hitching rides home? Do we put our naval fleet on autopilot and hope the ships sail around the world without crashing into anyone? Do we shut down all the airports and tell folks good luck getting home? Do we just turn off Boulder dam, and leave the entire South west (some 60 million people) without electricity, which in turn, forces the closure of all business, causing mass unemployment, causing an economic meltdown?
So see Roy, stopping payment to retirees, causes a financial meltdown; to Federal employees, causes a financial meltdown; to the Chinese and other countries that hold about 20% of our debt, causes a financial meltdown.
Here is a question Roy - why is it the GOP are hell bent on stopping the government from paying its obligations? Any way you look it at it, it results in a fiscal/financial disaster.
It is ironic that the NRA believes that people having access to these semi-automatic man toys that can shoot 2 to 3 bullets per second is more important than the increased death toll that these weapons are capable of producing in the hands of a deranged killer or terrorist.
Common sense dictates that these weapons should only be available to those in the business of killing large numbers of people since that is their main purpose. Personally, I find that target shooting 2 to 3 bullets per second at a cost of early $.50 each ($1 to $1.50 per second) makes these weapons impractical for target shooting. You're not allowed to hunt with them, so what use do they have except for mass killing?

Of course everyone wants to try and prevent kids getting killed - that's not the question. The question is, what's the most effective approach? A number of links posted on these boards have statistics that say, at least in some cases, stricter gun control laws have actually resulted in more violent crimes - not less.
Personally, I'm not sure if gun control changes will help or hurt...but I'd rather take a few months and do some real (objective) studies to make that determination, and not risk making a bad emotional decision today.

Obama tucked his tail, rolled over, and exposed his belly because he knows that neither a ban on semi-auto rifles nor a ban on standard capacity magazines 10, 20 30 rounds) will ever get through congress.
I do agree with some of the 23 executive orders like:
Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
SeekingSanity,
You'd think that after 4 years of Obama policies you'd finally give up on the blame Bush mantra. Sad that you are still stuck on that narrative. The point is that Obama seems to be able to act decisively on an issue like guns but has been befuddled about how to grow the economy. He can't put forth a clear fiscal policy (at least one that doesn't create a bigger deficit problem) and he can't negotiate with Congress. But he sure gets jacked up on the political theater du jour..
ROY WILSON-336103
show me a video of Obama saying it. PLEEEAAASE show me.
because this is what he said:
MR. OBAMA: I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it. [CBS News, CBS Evening News, 7/12/11, via CBSNews.com]
but Rabid Faux News made it into this:
"Obama Threatens To Hold Up Social Security Checks."
Roy, really?
there is only one type of reward for companies - FINANCIAL. When they get to move jobs to countries where labor is CHEAP - I mean cheap, while writing off all associated with the move expenses - it's an incentive. And an incentive is a reward.
yes, they do - as a tax write off
RedDevPS "Roy, the question should really be, how does the government prioritize who gets paid first. Is it fair to pay retirees before Federal employees"
The government expects to take in about $2.9 Trillion this year - The cost of paying Social Security recipients and Federal workers is only about 35% of that, leaving lots of money for other uses - Why should retirees, who absolutely depend on their retirement check, be at the bottom of the list for payment? Do you think that's 'fair' just because it's easy for Obama to pick on them?
No semi-automatic rifle or pistol shoots 2-3 rounds a second. They all shoot once every time the trigger is pulled and no one has that fast of a trigger finger.
back -- many in business have been faced with the prospect of having to deliver some ideas but not sure really what might work. casually this is called throwing "stuff" against the wall and seeing what sticks.
biden seems to have adopted this same approach.
Q22 - you'd think after the Republican Party found their declaration of obstructing EVERYTHING the President proposed - on day one of his 1st term - totally didn't work, they'd now be working WITH him to move the country forward. You'd think that but of course we all know that isn't the case. Boehner and his cronies are still obstructing EVERYTHING they can - to hell with the country!
Try putting the blame where it belongs - John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell, Michelle Bachman, etc!
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 You make it sound like the government gives companies some kind of 'bonus' for moving,..................yes, they do - as a tax write off.
That's not a 'REWARD', that just another business expense, which have always been a deductible expense, like when you get paid.
fielden . . .
I agree. Jon's show last night was very informative. Interesting that the ATF has been so controlled by the House. So much so that they cannot do the jobs that we think they are doing for us. Not only is the Director a temp director, they have had the same number of agents for what ... 30 years?
SS if Obama was a leader he could get them to work together but seeing your God Obama is not a leader well you see what is happening.
Plus he is not moving forward he is going backwards.
The Republican Party is trying to control the mess Obama is making so when a real leader gets into office Dem or Rep they don't have to fix all the crap Obama is trying to do...
Impeach Obama!!!!!!!!!!
ROY WILSON-336103
why don't you shut off Fox News and actually do some research before you post more of the same sh*t:
the Bipartisan Policy Center estimates the Treasury will default on nearly half its financial obligations. Jay Powell, the former Under Secretary to the Treasury under President George H.W. Bush and current visiting scholar at the Bipartisan Policy Center, talked with CBS MoneyWatch about what will happen -- and who will get paid first -- if Congress cannot agree on a plan.
MW: So who gets paid first?
JP: Interest on the debt will have the highest priority. It is unthinkable that we would fail to do so. Beyond that there's really no way to know. There are an almost infinite number of alternatives. It is possible to pay all the safety net payments out of income and cash flow. If you do that, though, you don't have a dollar for the national defense and you don't have any money to run the justice department, so the FBI doesn't operate, the courts don't operate, and the federal prisons close down. You open up the doors and let everybody go. That can't happen. The government has to pay for the defense establishment, the justice department and all these other departments. These are not trivial activities of government. But any way you play the game, you can't cut spending by 44 percent overnight without cutting very popular and important programs.
read the entire article:

Obama had nearly two years to get whatever he wanted. He had a complete majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Republicans could stop NOTHING!. Boehner tried to negotiate a big deal but, with a deal nearly completed, Obama blew the whole thing up with a last minute demand for double the tax revenue. Blame Republicans all you want but the unfortunate truth is that this President has no interest in working with Republicans and has no answers as to how to grow the economy. We are in for 4 more years of bumping along the bottom.
ROY WILSON-336103
duh, Roy. That's the point.
Corporations get to use "taking jobs from US" as a deduction. So not only US citizens lose jobs, they pay for that in lost tax revenue. That's why the 2 bills were introduced which were killed by the Republicans so they would not have to vote AGAINST them. COWARDS.
If a company wants to offshore, they can but minus the deduction.
Close the offshoring tax loophole - I don't know how much clearer I can make this for you.
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 where do you get your info? Do you just pull it out of your azz?............AZ 2011 (latest data):"
How about comparing Arizona crime rates with Chicago crime rates, with Chicago having some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, but only about 40% as many people as in Arizona.
Statistics are meaningless without a context.
As Rachel Maddow states..."all these idiots are trolls, looking to see who can make the most outrageous statement to get attention".
When confronted with fact they run another line of misconception, use inflammatory language, scare tactics and use money to try and skew the truth.
So take what these idiots (trolls) say with a grain of salt. Your not going to convince them of what is fact.
Johnthro... YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG!
I live in Illinois. I am a LEGAL gun owner and carry the FOID (Firearm Owner ID) Card that the state requires me to have. (which btw... they charged me $10 for and it costs the $14 to process... any idea why they are broke?)
In Illinois, you are prohibited from purchasing a gun of ANY kind in another state. ALL purchases have to be made through a licensed Illinois Gun Dealer.
That INCLUDES internet purchases.
I live near St. Louis and if I cross the state line into Missouri to purchase a gun, I have to have that gun transferred from the Missouri dealer to a licensed Illinois dealer... where the purchase is completed. I cannot leave the store in Missouri with the gun - the dealers do the transfer and I get charged a $50 fee for the transfer.
You are either an idiot talking out of your ass or an outright liar!
Either way... in your statement we once again find the liberal left making up LIES to try and scare the uneducated public into complying with the lefty view of how things should be. Don't be fooled people!
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 ...why don't you shut off Fox News and actually do some research before you post more of the same sh*t: MW: So who gets paid first?...........JP: Interest on the debt will have the highest priority. It is unthinkable that we would fail to do so."
The payments to Social Security recipients are the single biggest part of the Debt payments, so why 'stiff' them just to pay the Chinese? We owe about $1 Trillion to the Chinese, but we owe about $2.7 Trillion to the Social Security recipients and their 'Trust Funds'.
I listen to a variety of news programs - perhaps you should get more of a 'Fair and Balanced' coverage of the issues, instead of just the Liberal perspective.
David Walker, did you serve in the military? I did. Why do you believe you have the right to tell the american people what they should or shouldn't have?
Will you come to my house to take my guns away from me? I am the people and I am not getting really, really angry at gun owners. You should mind your own business and let me take care of mine. If you think you want to visit me and tell me what I should do, let me know.I will make arrangements.
"The Stupids, otherwise known as federal Republican lawmakers, just can’t seem to do anything wrong, , the party’s mistress of mockery. But it’s so much easier to go after these winners when Michael Steele, the party’s outgoing chairman, stops by to play in the sandbox. “Republicans right now are not just off message, they are at war with themselves,” opines Rachel Maddow ….
???????????????????????????????????????????
bayllie "ROY WILSON-336103 You make it sound like the government gives companies some kind of 'bonus' for moving,..................yes, they do - as a tax write off.
Even if they get a tax deduction, it still costs them a lot of money - For example, if it costs a company $100 Million to move overseas, and they get a tax write-off of 35%, it still costs them a net of $650,000 to make the move. The cost of producing in a foreign country will still have that $650,000 to absorb before they get a profit. They have to have a LOT of savings to make up for all of that extra expense.
Gotta go to work now - Bye, and have a nice day :)
Ladies and gentlemen...
THIS idiot has demonstrated PERFECTLY the issue... The left thinks it is actually possible for a SEMI-AUTOMATIC gun to shoot 2 to 3 bullets per second...
HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
ONLY IF YOU CAN PULL THE TRIGGER THAT FAST - which is no different than if you were firing a revolver!
These dumb-asses don't understand the difference between a SEMI automatic and a FULLY automatic gun.
If they had ever FIRED one of those guns they MIGHT understand how stupid their statements are.
Hello Feisty, Haggis, Silverton, RI Mom and to the rest of the crowd that can not see that you are fighting a clarion call by the Administration to eliminate the 2nd Amendment. The reason our Administration is so concerned with an armed citizenry is because they know what is coming around the corner.
The battle of the century as Feisty puts it is not the gun debate but the debt bubble debate. Once people realize the extent and resultant inevitable collapse of our financial system their attention will be turned to reforming the financial system in a more equitable manner. We aren't 16.3 Trillion in debt we are 222 Trillion in debt with no possibility of ever paying it off in the Fractional Reserve Banking system model. It's not going to be Armageddon or a Mad Max landscape but people awakening to the fact that we have been economic slaves and it doesn't have to be that way. It's an illusion, a means to keep you down trodden and controlled.
The booms and busts are manipulated by the banksters. It's not by accident or bad luck it's rigged and manipulated and creates the illusion of scarcity. Look at the 800 Trillion Libor Interest Rate Rigging scandal or the High Frequency Trading algorithms used to rig the Ponzi Stock Market. People are waking up to these manipulations and scandals and that's what worries the current Power Structure. A disarmed population is easier to manipulate.
The international banking elite with tacit approval from Democrats and Republicans has given the world the 1.4 Quadrillion in Derivatives Fraud, the HSBC and Wells Fargo Drug Laundering fraud, the MF Global fraud, the PFG fraud, the High Frequency trading pilfering and Stock Market fraud, the manipulation of the Precious Metals and Bond Market fraud, the MERS Mortgage fraud, nearly countless individual frauds from both Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, and the international 800 Trillion LIBOR interest rate fixing banking fraud, just to name but a few recent FRAUDS and breaches of Bankster credibility and trustworthiness.
The sheeple will call this paranoia, conspiracy or what ever adjective to keep their fragile sensibilities in a comatose state as ignorance is bliss compared to facing reality. What is abundantly clear is that their is a mass awakening, you can see it all across the globe. They are tired of the banksters and elite controlling their physical and economic environment and are fed up.
The Fiscal Cliff, the Debt Ceiling, the Trillion Dollar Deficits, the European Debt Crisis, those ships have sailed long ago. They are simply reminders that under the current Federal Reserve System we are deemed insolvent. The system has collapsed not our planets ability to take care of humanity's needs. When people realize this they are going to be pissed off that's the main reason the Powers That Were are worried! They are afraid we will understand that we can zero out all the debt and take control of our currency. At the end of the day the Federal Reserve is a private corporation and their debts belong to them just like any other corporation.
Check out what our economics look like under the Federal Reserve's Fractional Reserve Banking System.

True Sick so true
Jody you usually don't answer hard question but lets try once more.
"Backhouse, well said! President Obama and VP Biden have proposed reasonable, logical, sensible laws aimed at diminishing the number of gun massacres in this country."
How is universal back ground checks, reasonable, logical or sensible?
For example if a person lets call them your partner had a gun and wanted to sell it to your neighbor, how would that back ground check work? Could your partner even legally do a background check on your neighbor? Or would your local police have to do it and how is that going to be funded?
Or how about the situation where a gun is inherited from father to child?
And finally how do your explain the large numbers of democrats that don't agree with your?
Seeking blaming the minority again, I bet you blamed the Slaves for Slavery also huh?
Perhaps Congress could subpoena Alex Jones and have him present his expert testimony on the subject.
@ Tom
Um you do know that Africans did sell their own into slavery don't you?
[where do you want to start Denni?]
Go get 'em, killer...
ROY WILSON-336103
that's not what you said, and I qute (post #1.149)
you can't support your made up statistic so you change the samples?
You cannot compare a state to a large city - EVER. You really have no understanding of basic statistical concepts.
ROY WILSON-336103
who gives a f*ck??? A company wants to offshore - that's their business but don't expect the taxpayer to help pay for it.
end the offshoring tax loophole. PERIOD.
what about all the times you said you were retired?????????????
BLAHBLAHBLAH......Looks like the gang of 545 are giving the common folk another something to bicker about to distract them from the real issues! The stats in the story above are very miserable so you libs that are stroking each other over some sort of success are delusional. Most critical things on that list are worse so why the celebration? Barry has failed to do ANYTHING he has said! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!! THE FACTS ARE THERE, WRITTEN BY YOUR LIBERAL BIASED SITE, YET YOU STILL DON'T GET IT!! YOUR PARTY IS DOOMED!!
Um you do know Laser I didn't type blacks or African's, I typed SLAVES!
Sick of the Bickering
According to experts familiar with the AR-15, in semi-automatic mode which is what is available without modification, with practice a shooter can achieve well over 3 rounds per second without bump firing which can achieve a higher rate. Of course, it depends on how fast your trigger finger is.
bayllie, is a deduction now considered, the tax payer paying for something?
I thought tax credits (money actually going from the Government to company/individual) were the tax payer paying.
example if I write off my cell phone as a work expense, that is the tax payers paying for my phone?
I am not arguing your point on off shoring, just your use of words.
Tom the last time I check African's was the ones called slaves. I did not know there was others. Can you provide a link to educate me on this?
@Shaak322
Can you provide proof of these so called experts that can achieve this. I say I am very good with one and I just don't see that. I have been shooting for over 20 years and hard for me to do that.
And by saying:
According to experts familiar with the AR-15
Sounds as if you have proof..
shaak and Sick,
You could unload a Glock 17 with a 17 shot magazine right around 2.5 seconds. Most couldn't that fast.
But what you absolutely have to remember is High speed shooting and accurate high speed shooting are two different things.
laser, of course you wouldn't understand the point that I was trying to make. The point I was trying to make was Seeking was blaming the "The Slaves" for Slavery, not the people selling the others, but the actual Slave.
But here is a link to Slavery prior to your knowledge of history.
http://www.historyworld.net/wrldhis/plaintexthistories.asp?historyid=ac41
Oh ok Tom did not catch that..
And thanks for the link I guess there are more slaves than I thought or never thought about the old old old days.
Thanks for the education love to learn..

The figures suggest nothing more than a recovery, all be it slow it is still there (dates are just as important to note as figures).
Let us not forget that it was the Bush administration that sent us down this rosey path. It would not have mattered which party won the White House after Bush. He went to congress with his evil-doers & WMD's put two wars on credit and congress gave big ass breaks to wall street and gutted Federal oversight on banks. Again let us not forget it wouldn't matter which party was in control we would still be faced with this situation.
The better name for the Republican party at this time should be the Obstructionist Party.
Don't try and sell be the bill of goods that our President hasn't passed a budget......That hasn't been done in 6 years and is the responsibility of Congress, and not a function of the Executive branch, as he can only purpose a budget and laws for that matter.
So that makes the Republican party responsible for our current debt, as they have control over the check book. Show me where they don't have it (control over fiscal maters) and I'll show you where you can get prime real estate for 1.99 an acre.
Congress had a two year break from the Republican control and started getting things back on track., Notice not one Republican turned down any of the Stimulus money. Look at the Republican controlled states.....They pay the lowest in Federal taxes and yet get back more than they put in......how is that fair to the rest of the nation? The Republican party will do and say anything to try and make the President look bad.....At any cost.
Remember when Bush was in office if anyone said anything against his policies you where tagged as anti American.....How is what your doing any different?
Re draw the district lines in the Democrat favor or start some voter blocking, pull the same crap and see if the Obstructionist Party doesn't pitch a bitch and call for blood.
You Noecon's are a joke....and everyone knows it.
lasertroll.
First, I heard 2 to 3 rounds per second in one of the many stories I've listened to since the school shooting. When challenged on veracity of this statement, I googled "rounds per second, AR-15" and checked 3 different sites that answered the question some years ago. In Shooting Times, they even offered for sale a "slide fire stock" that could increase firing rate to 400 to 800 rounds per minute.
It is hardly the kind of technology that any yahoo can purchase, but some gun enthusiasts can never get enough of these high performance weapons.
@ shaak322
Oh I see ok to me that don't sound like a semi automatic but an automatic.
Have you shot any automatics? I have in the Army and it is a rush. But not needed for protection.
I like my semi just fine.
Tom - Plymouth-3672298
yes when it's as useless as an offshoring expense deduction loophole. Why? Without it, the company will not be able to lower their pretax income.
tax credit and tax deduction are 2 different things
tax code loopholes allow companies to deduct business expenses when calculating their tax liability. Less tax liability = less tax revenue.
a tax loophole does not equal to a legitimate business expense (i.e. business phone)
why not end offshoring loopholes (that eliminate jobs in the US) and add tax deductions that will reward companies that bring jobs back to the US???? why are you guys so against closing such loopholes????
To add, many of America's largest corporations and wealthiest individuals use accounting gimmicks to shift profits made in America to offshore tax havens, where they pay little to no taxes. This tax avoidance costs the federal government an estimated $150 billion in tax revenue each year.
Maybe then, we could start rewarding companies the play by the book in the US instead of rewarding the cheaters?
talking about Chinese and default... 1.6 trillion?? I havent discussed the debt or anything let alone throw around wild numbers numbers. mighty tough words through the interent..Its almost like youve been hangin with my pal Mickey in NY.
oh Touche' LOL
Also, all gun owners should be drug tested.
Out of your league again, or just another case of not knowing when to quit? You're more than half-way down the thread...slow day? Must be slumming. You only have about 25 posts and it's 3:00 your time. Speed it up!
By the way, need that sack caesar? You know...to carry your ass around in?
So, have you read NY's new legislation?
Here's the website for Americans for Responsible Solutions.
http://americansforresponsiblesolutions.org/
Anyone who is interested in joining the millions of voices across America that are crying out for reasonable and rational gun control, can sign up and let their voice be heard as well.
Individually we can make a difference, but together we can make a world of difference!
Johntho,
Try reading MORE than this stupid bias website, especially if you're going to espouse the crime in another country, you might learn something.
I do read foreign newspapers daily, because I can often find more unbiased articles about AMERICAN news than I can in our own local rags. In fact, in a ton of cases, you can be reading the articles and not notice that they have THE EXACT SAME URBAN ISSUES WE DO. I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, you could exchange L.A. for London or vise versa and you wouldn't be the wiser. In fact, England is full of gangs, illegals, criminals and the like.
If we can have "Warrantless" Wire Taps FORCED on us then we can have UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS. period
Angela, start reading the Toronto Star, and as far as that goes the govt. has a website for crime stats, I have been there and I don't believe you for a second. Canada is virtually crime free compared to our cities and towns. As far as England, very little gun violence compared to ours and in Australia crime has dropped considerably since the gun ban. Try the truth Angela, its good for the soul.
In Ohio districts, as an example, 75% of Representatives elected are GOP. If half the money the DNC spent on Obama had been spent on congressional races in Ohio at least 3 additional Democrat representatives would have been elected which would have been a 6 vote swing in the House. In my view Obama still would have carried the presidential race in Ohio since districts where GOP congressional candidates won were districts where Obama lost anyway.
The DNC put too many eggs in the Obama basket.
The guns stance by Obama yesterday will anchor all GOP representatives to the Congress for years to come, and should cause growth of GOP representation in 2014. Bucking the Second Ammendment rights held dear by over 200 million proud, voting, American gun owners will be more galvanizing than even Obamacare in 2010.
lasertroll
The gun they found in the trunk was a shotgun with a pistol grip. At least to later reports.
Steve-3564331
Better do a little fact checking on that "Rosey Path". Yeah Bush was in the White House, and even warned Congress on several occasions. My opinion is he should have done more though. But this is the Democrats deal all the way through, and it started with Clinton and the Reinvestment in Communities Act of 94, (before Republicans took Congress)
Lets have a violence tax on hollyweird movies. Lets say if they make a violent movie the first murder is a freebie.
After that a $100,000 fee is levied for each murder portrayed in the film where a gun is used.
$75,000 if a bomb is used.
$50,000 for all other acts of violent murder are portrayed.
On top of that lets have a gun shot fee impossed on them as well. For each time a gun is fired in a movie there should be a $10,000 tax.
Each time a gun is portrayed in a life threatening measure then they would have to pay a $5,000 tax.
So on and so forth. Of course we really are not going to call this a tax but instead we shall refer to
as a fee.
sittingonafence
movies don't kill people, guns do. You don't want your kids exposed to movies/games? SHUT THE TV OFF and don't buy any games. It is that simple.
Bayllie,
But the money is for the kids. And it is the kids who don't turn off the violence who go out as adults and do these mass shootings. So do it for the kids otherwise you are just a heartless kid hating racist bigot from the black lagoon.
Hollyweird needs to pay their fair share for the violence they have brought upon the public thru their movies. No more hiding behind their so called artistic cloaks while reaping millions for their violence.
bayllie "what about all the times you said you were retired?????????????"
I've been retired since February 2004 (9 years) - sometimes I wonder how I found time to go to work, but not having to go to work doesn't mean that I don't have to do some work around the house. My wife has a big 'Honeydo' list to complete before we move to Costa Rica.
Roy (and Albany Joe), Do you really need to ask this? That may be the reason Republicans' can't get elected to President these days.
Why stiff them? Because it will make Republicans look like fools. If Republicans want to cut spending, but never will include anything but domestic spending and entitlements, then the President will pick and choose whatever makes Republicans pay for their stupid ideas. We keep going thru the same debate and end up with Republicans looking like complete fools. Maybe you can let us know why Republicans always keep doing that? BTW, everyone knows it's politics but they will always blame the ones playing the most politics....the Republicans.
Hell has just frozen over! Roy actually wrote that all his statistics need context.......Wow!
No, let me give you one:

Teen Shot in Head During Home Invasion Prank

A 15-year-old Alabama boy is in critical condition today after he was shot in the head by a friend during prank that police said went terribly wrong.
Jesse Rainey, 15, and seven male friends were spending the weekend at an unoccupied home that belonged to the grandmother of one of the boys, when a few of the teens decided to prank their friends by faking a home intrusion, Colbert County Sheriff Ronnie May told ABCNews.com.
“One of the young men cut the lights to the house, then a few of the other guys snuck back inside, wanting their friends to believe there was an intruder,” May said.
The teens were in the process of using flashlights to find the switch box, when Rainey jumped out of a closet.
His rattled friend immediately dropped a video game and fired a shot into Rainey’s head with a .38 caliber hand gun.
May called the shooting “accidental” and said after interviewing all of the boys and conferring with the district attorney’s office, no charges will be filed. Drugs and alcohol were also not a factor in the shooting.
The teens called 911 at 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Dispatchers were unable to find the home, which is off the beaten path, on a map, so the boys put Rainey in the bed of a pickup truck and drove him 10 minutes to a Midway convenience store. They were met there by sheriff’s deputies and a medical team, May said.
Rainey was taken to Helen Keller Hospital, where he was stabilized before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
May said the boys are all close friends who attend Colbert Heights High School together.
“This was a prank that went terribly wrong,” he said.
For every story you have, there's one someone else has
...so, to everyone who thought the President's Executive Orders yesterday were going to completely undermine the Second Amendment, please enlighten me as to which ones accomplished that task.
They will find one or two to piss and crap on then claim ... whoa, that's a slippery slope.
Da Noid:
I'm sure they'll get back to you as soon as they're through attacking the amendments that gave the right to vote to those damned minorities, women, and 18-year-olds.
Um, none. I'm pretty sure that most gun owners (of which I an one) were relieved that his executive orders don't really accomplish all that much. He said himself that any actual bans need to go through Congress, and since there are a number of Dems who have already said that they don't support an "assault weapons" ban, I'm not overly concerned. In addition, Reid is already getting a Bill together to block the E.O. on doctors compiling a database of gun owners, and a few days ago he said that realistically an assault weapons ban has little chance of passing. So even he's not altogether on board.
I had been one of those afraid that he was going to undermine the 2nd Amendment, but now it seems that the whole thing was more for show that to accomplish anything substantial.
Speaking of amendments, I'm still wrapping my head around the 2nd one, which according to the gunners, gives one the right to grab a gun shoot up Federal buildings at will, as long as they claim the government is being tyrannical. I always thought that was an act of terrorism or possibly even treason.
DaNoid, no kidding.
It goes beyond logic that we had republicans yelling "impeachment" BEFORE even knowing what they were yelling about. The GOP's non-stop ranting shows such a level of foaming at the mouth as to make them irrelevant and incapable of normal conversation. In short, the majority of the GOP caucus seems to have lost their collective minds.
David Walker---Are you just a plain idiot or what, it seems you defend yourself with illogical references to something completely different than the subject and try to tie it to guns.
DaNoid -- Here is Reagan's solicitor general on the subject:

David Walker - thanks for the insults way to start a dialog on a subject. is that how you see all hunters and gun owners if so you are part of the problem. second if you feel that us crazy gun owners dont have kids in the same schools as yours you are also wrong. if you feel that we don't worry about those kids our and yours you are also wrong again. if you feel that we aren't for sensible gun control you are wrong again. if you think that banning the evil assault rifle if going to help you are again WRONG. as for your rant about the semi auto rilfe you are again WRONG. my dad doesn't wear any of what you described in your little rant, he deer hunts with a normal looking rifle that you or anyone else we call an assault rifle. it is however a semi auto 30.06 with a 6 round magazine that can be changed in about two seconds. it is a lot more powerful then the evil assault rifle you are talking about. it does not blow the deer to bits as you claim anymore then the bushmaster does. the bushmaster/assault rifle you so hate was first offered to the public to ranchers for varmint and coyote control. less recoil and accurate out to a good distance. the weapon you speak of is more than likely the 50 cal which by the way when fired by an individual is bolt action. and still won't blow something to bits. i think you need to do a little research or maybe go and visit the local gun range and have them show you what a gun can and cant do. i would love to actually talk face to face with one of the anti gun people to try and find out what it is that makes you so against guns. other then what the media has made them out to be. good day friend
Bravo, Da Noid! I wondered the same thing.
There are those who proclaim "The President is trying to abolish the Second Amendment!" Show me where, specidfically, he is trying to do that. In fact, he stated just the opposite.
There are those who proclaim "The President is coming to take away all of our guns!" Again, show me. Specifically.
Paranoia is a form of mental illness....
BitT73 - if your father hunts with the guns you are describing he is not a hunter and any true sportsman would refuse to "hunt" with him!
And, idiot, no one is "Against guns" we are against large capacity magazines (which again, no TRUE sportsman woud EVER use to hunt), and assault weapons. No one wants to take your precious guns!
I have an idea why dont Obama just ban muder by any method period? Wouldnt that solve the problem altogether?
SeekingSanity,
You'd think that after 4 years of Obama policies you'd finally give up on the blame Bush mantra. Sad that you are still stuck on that narrative. The point is that Obama seems to be able to act decisively on an issue like guns but has been befuddled about how to grow the economy. He can't put forth a clear fiscal policy (at least one that doesn't create a bigger deficit problem) and he can't negotiate with Congress. But he sure gets jacked up on the political theater du jour..
BigT73:
I don't have time to waste on shredding your insipid post. However, if you have time to spare, you could check some of my previous posts, and you will find that you have figuratively stuffed your feet into your mouth. As far as the CRAZY gunner appellation - If the shoe fits, wear it.
About that semi-auto 30.06. You want to tell us about its rapid-fire capability? There's something about you guys that leads you to believe that asking for regulation of firearms means we don't know a damned thing about firearms. Some years ago, my uncle came home from Korea safe and sound, only to go hunting and take a 30.06 round in the thigh from a "hunter". Yeah, there's a pretty serious need for regulation, Eddie Eagle notwithstanding.
About that Bushmaster. I qualified quite proficiently with an M-16. Yeah, I know a bit about that sort of stuff. A lot of us vets do. As a point of interest, my son-in-law and I went to a range a couple of months ago, and son of one gun, I can still hit a target.
I'll give you this, you may not be long on comprehension, but you can sure jump to conclusions. Makes you look really dumb, when they're wrong.
Q22 - the first time you made your post you looked stupid. Posting again doesn't change that. You still look stupid!
david walker glad to hear you can shoot. i don't believe i jumped to any conclusions i simply asked if you viewed all hunters the way you posted. why is hunting deer with a 30.06. most states require that a weapon have a certain balistics in order to hunt with. the bushmaster does not meet those requirements. its considered to small. i have never said we didn't need requlations either. but the way most are worded right now i will be considered a criminal because of guns i legally own and shoot today. have never or do i intend on ever using my guns on a human being. i don't own them for self protection either. i don't hunt most rifle seasons for large game for the very reason you brought out. i hunt the primative seasons. and if you don't know what i mean the old fashioned muzzle loader type. one because its somehwat safer and two i enjoy the sport of it. my father also hunts the same way. i don't hunt camo as you describe either. i am usually in a pair of blue jeans and boots. i appreciate your service to this country and those of you both now and in the past my grandfather included and i have heard some serious remarks regarding those that have served that didn't go over well with me. i do believe we need regulations, but we need to think them through and not do the knee jerk emotional reaction thing that doesn't benefit anyone. ban the assault weapon it didn't help those kids in columnbine in 99 when it was in effect. ban the high capacity magazines. when most of the people being killed are being killed with some kind of pistol tell me how that helps. i have never once said i was against the regulations or talking about control, i just feel we need to think it through instead of lets just start the banning.
dave o you are now contradicting yourself. you post all this hate about crazy gunner people, yet you just admitted you shoot guns yourself, so what side of the fence do you sit on? you cannot have it both ways, right? im not sure why you say one thing and mean another. what im gathering is , you say i hate guns, and gun owners, but i shoot guns myself. please explain..........and try not to write a book. a simple answer will be fine.
kilroy 63:
The operative word is "crazy". None of my friends here on these threads has ever suggested banning firearms. Indeed, as I told BigT73, if you had taken the time to read some of my previous posts, you would know that I proposed a rule that allows ownership of FULLY AUTOMATIC weapons.
But, it's your attitude: "......try not to write a book, a simple answer will be fine."
There are no simple answers kilroy or we wouldn't be having these arguments two-and-a-quarter centuries after this nation came into being.
Big T73:
Please take the time to go look at rules, I have proposed. They're a few days back. As I told Kilroy, I would even allow for the ownership of full auto rifles. I will not get into a debate about "assault weapons". I'm sick of the term. A screwdriver can be used as an assault weapon. Go check my proposals and see whether they aren't realistic.
ok dave, don't have a cow...........i,m just asking.. ya know.....i just do not see the point in long drawn out replies, people only read about half of it and move on... this is a very debatable subject.......i read your posts. you have made some good points. but you are either for us or against us. i think that banning the semi autos no matter what they are and banning the hi cap magazines.....is NOT going to stop a sociopath from killing. how many people own AR type rifles and hi cap mags that do not use them illegally compared to those that do? obama is forcing his will on the people , to do so with out the vote in my book is wrong. no matter what the subject. i /you/ we should have the right to the same protection that obama has. period. he works for us.
The Commies have succeeded in infiltrating FOX. Denis Kucinich is on board. I suggest Red Dawn as a name for a morning show to compete against Morning Joe

There hasn't been a pairing this unusual since Marilyn Monroe married Arthur Miller.
Or the odd pair of LIz Taylor and Senator Mark Warner
At least Warner was a middle aged stud muffin of sorts.
Tom Cruise and Cher ... only one of them had a brain.
Ted Turner might know why.
WE need sensible guns laws not a all or nothing argument. Here are some thoughts.
1. Background Checks: This prevents people with mental illness from at least purchasing guns legally. The same people arguing against background checks have no problem with a credit rating, drivers license or passport. All of these catalog who you are.
2. Make a special class for assault weapons, same as machine guns and automatic weapons. Instead of saying you can't have one, have stronger regulations for controlling the.
3. Make it illegal to store large quantities of ammunition. There is no reason to store thousands or even hundreds of bullets. If the house catches fire (not an unlikely scenario, check the news), the neighborhood will look like Afghanistan.
4. Make weapon owners responsible for the weapons, same a pit bull or any agressive dog. Kid gets your gun and kills himself or others, it's your fault and you get the murder. Too many people leave weapons lying around irresponsibly. There is no reason for a baby to pick up a gun off the couch. There are no accidental shootings, accidents don't exist.
5. Tax bullets, guns and permits annually, this will appease the tree huggers and give the NRA something to point at.
The other alternative would be to fully honor the spirit of the second ammendment and allow all black powder guns that our Founding Fathers voted for and skip the notion of private ownership of militay weapons (all weapons are arms) such as assault rifle, machine guns, RPGs, LAW (Light Artillery Anti-Tank Weaponh, hand grenades, explosives etc. that didn't exist back then. If you think this is unreasonable, then honor the other half of the constitutional decision and that is on that white males of european decent apply to the constitution and toss out a whole handful od ammendments.
Man who helped Sandy Hook kids is harassed by conspiracy theorists
By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News
A man who found six children in his driveway in Newtown, Conn., after their teacher had been shot and killed in last month's school massacre has become the target of conspiracy theorists who believe the shootings were staged.
Rosen, a 69-year-old retired psychologist who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School where the shootings took place, says his inbox is filled with emails like this one:
How are all those little students doing? You know, the ones that showed up at your house after the ‘shooting’. What is the going rate for getting involved in a gov’t sponsored hoax anyway?
A quick Web search for Rosen's name reveals some of what he's opened himself up to: Appearing online are photos of his home, his address and phone number, several fake YouTube accounts and plenty of conspiracy theories.
One post, entitled "Grieving Town Grandfather, or Bad 'Crisis Actor,'" reads in part:
Gene's oft repeated, and changing, story about that day, focuses totally on the kids and the sound of gunshots. Even though his eyes and ears should've taken in the whole scene, his story focuses completely on the kids and the guns.
Why? Well, if this was a false flag event designed to move political opinion on gun control, here in America, then you would get a lot more bang for your buck by talking about the innocent little children. That's what tugs on America's heart strings the most ... especially around Christmas time.

What a right lot of sorry sick bastards some of you’ll Yahoo’s are turning out to be.
And you’ll think the sick minds at play here deserve the Right to an AR-16 with all the bells and whistles to go along with. Hell I wouldn’t let you’ll within Barrett range of me and mine.
Have any of you Sandusky wannabees subjected 20 of Americas Kids and their Faithful Guardians family’s and loved ones to this from your fevered delusions? Oh yeh I forgot. Sandusky is doing time for his crimes unlike you’ll Yahoo’s who hope that hiding behind your anonymity you won’t be caught. I tremble before your courage and dedication.
Is this what’s going to happen to every child in these here United States when they use their First Amendment rights to write a letter disagreeing with your take on this or any other issue. I know. We are going to ignore everybody’s First Amendment rights so you can protect your Second Amendment rights. Silly me.
Your Momma’s and Daddy’s most be so proud to see the lengths to you will go to to protect your Precious AR or AK
I hope the FBI or somebody takes the time and trouble to track down and prosecute as many of you as it can because if I had my druthers I would stick one of your precious Weapons of Mass Destruction up you’re a&& and see if you can learn to sneeze a full clip of .223. ‘Course given the depth of the ignorance that some of you are showing in some quarters that would be considered a stone waste of ammunition
We call that Mountain Justice and looks like it needs to be applied liberally to this little problem
Our economy would rebound substantially if more people were involved in the manufacturing of tinfoil hats.
Floyd,
These people are despicable, absolutely despicable!
PS: Loved the idea of them sneezing a full clip of .223!
PPS: Warm apple strudel in the break room to go along with your steaming cup of Joe! ;o)
Tell ya what IR, there's some phrases and terms that come into the language and start tripping off everyone's lips. You know, like "at this point in time". Why couldn't they just say "now"? We hear good stuff like "false equivalency". There's a lot of that.
But there's one sentence that just keeps coming up that can't be replaced. It always crosses my mind when I read the latest right-wing lunacy. YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP.
Betty seems an appropriate solution to me. Well within My Second Amendment Rights......David I don't worry much about them making stuff up that is expected with the level of ignorance we are dealing with. It's when they start acting on their delusions that bother me.
I was just sick when I heard about this man getting harassed. I hope the FBI does nail some of these crazies. Anyone who thinks that Sandy Hook was a conspiracy is in need of the mental health services our President discussed yesterday.
IR,
Behold! The culture of Untruth, the politics of Untruth.
Independent Redneck, Va-
Thanks for posting this story. I read it last night and had to do a double-take.
Did a little research on the population of the US in 1776 vs. today, as well as other factors, to help put into perspective the amount of guns available now.
Keep up the good work, amigo.
Salud
For once, I'm going to agree with Feisty. Those people are despicable.
But it appears hyperbole, inflammatory hate speech, and complete "off the reservation" thinking isn't reserved for the extreme right, it belongs to the extremist on the left as well:
And Rabbit Trail you show me where any of those folks up there felt that it was their right to set up false e-mails and in other ways violate somebodies privacy in an attempt to intimidate them and I will agree with you. Until then all you have is a rather lame attempt to create a false equivalency and it ain't playing to well.
I hate conspiracy theories...it's better to just expose the truth using their own words against them.

"Every time a tragedy occurs, there are renewed appeals for gun regulation.
Moreover, with no re-election pressure, President Obama is currently in the best position to promote it."

Open your eyes America.
It doesn't really surprise me that people make this stuff up but it does surprise me how many people believe it.
I've yet to hear anything from the NRA or its supporters that comes close to a defense of the ad that mentions the President's children. One guy said---we didn't mention them by name.
Off to the break room for the coffee & streudel!
Independent Redneck Va. I wasn't suggesting there was an equivalency. What those people are doing to that psychologist is pretty sickening. I'm merely pointing out that extremist exist on both sides. I do believe there are people on both sides of the debate that are bat s*** crazy and should stay far away from forums, debates and politics. It's one of the problems created by that pesky 1st Amendment.
Do you really think there is value in this debate for the type of thinking the quotes pointed out? How does anyone come to the table of ideas when it starts off with that type of extremist viewpoint, most which are nothing more than lies to create fear, hate and disdain for the opposing point of view?
To be honest, it may not play well here and I didn't expect anyone to embrace it with warm fuzzies but it's still the truth.
I'm not an NRA member so I can't speak for them but I did condemn the use of using children as political props yesterday by the NRA and by the President. Did you?
rabbit trail---another false equivalency. The children standing with the President (and their parents) WANTED to be there and CONSENTED to be a part of the process. They wrote letters to the President after the Sandy Hook tragedy. The President and his family did not consent to his children being used in despicable ads. And the guards they need for their safety are a result of the work their father does. They are not at risk just by going to school.
SabotandHeat - how many times do you plan to post your stupidity? We already know you're looking for the boogeyman under your bed at night and are dumb enough to believe what you post, okay?
Bev - would love to meet at the DDI to celebrate the First Lady's birthday! What a great idea - and we'll tip one to your son, too!
I don't know why I'm still surprised at the people who put the love of their guns over he lives of children but I am. The people who need to own an assault weapon - to make them feel like a man - clearly have serious problems but intelligent people know that. We KNOW the founding fathers didn't want our country armed to the teeth but instead wanted protection if there was no militia in force - which of course we have.
And, yet the ignorant still whine that the government wants to take their precious guns - knowing full well that hasn't been proposed. The NRA has become the poster child for the ignorant who have no clue they are dancing to the music played by the gun manufacturers who only care about putting more money in their pockets - to hell with the number killed in order to do it!
And, Pepe la Pew LaPierre is a talking head that would be an embarrassment to any intelligent group - guess that leaves the NRA out!
Please explain why the US had an Army, Navy and Marines existed before the ratification of the 2nd Amendment? Why the need for a militia if a standing Army already existed?
rabbit trail
The navy, what there was of it was dumped soon after and did not rebuild until the Quasi War.
The French navy inflicted substantial losses on American shipping. Secretary of State Timothy Pickering reported to Congress on June 21, 1797, that the French had seized 316 American merchant ships in the previous eleven months. The hostilities caused insurance rates on American shipping to increase at least 500 percent, since French marauders cruised the length of the U.S. Atlantic seaboard virtually unopposed. The administration had no warships to combat them; the last had been sold in 1785. The United States possessed only a flotilla of small revenue cutters and some neglected coastal forts.
One of the disagreements regarding amendments to the Constitution was where they should be placed in relation to the original ratified document itself. James Madison argued that any amendment to the Constitution should be placed within the document itself. He lost the argument that was won by Roger Sherman who believed that the amendments to the Constitution should remain separate from the original document and that amendments should be separately enumerated.
Had Madison won his argument, the Second Amendment would have amended Article I, Section 8 in the enumerated powers of Congress...specifically it's powers regarding war...
I'm not trying to defend the NRA's position.
Regardless whether those kids approved, they were still being used as a political prop. You don't think it was calculated that children were used on stage with the President while signing Executive Orders that would do little to change the outcome of the Sandy Hook tragedy had they been in place then? It was all for show, which translates into nothing more than a prop for the President.
Both parties used children to advance an agenda... period!
Rabbit Trail you kinda remind me of what happens when a Rabbit Dog gets a piece of Rabbit Fuzz hung acros his nose. He kinda runs around in circles all the while baying like he's really doing something till somebody removes the piece of Fuzz off his nose so he can setlle down and get on with the hunt.
The United States did not have an Army or any other organized force in the 1700s. The Revolutionary War was fought with volunteer "militias." Hence the use of the term in the Second Amendment. Organized armed forces did not exist until the 20th century and the National Defense Act of 1916.
What is it they say the "loser" will do when you've won an argument? Oh, yeah, they start attacking you personally. Now go take some of the fuzz off your own nose.
The United States Navy recognizes 13 October 1775 as the date of its official establishment, when the Continental Congress passed a resolution creating the Continental Navy. Soon after the end of the Revolutionary War, the last ship was sold and the Continental Navy was disbanded. Eleven years later, conflicts between American merchant shipping and pirates in the Mediterranean Sea led to the Naval Act of 1794, which created the U.S. Navy
Rabbit Trail Lord you sure are testy. That wasn't a personal attack. You wouldn't like one of my personal attacks. That was just an observation. As far as winners or losers go I think that I made my point when I put up the post and that's really all I had to do. You however seem to be still wandering around with the Fuzz over your nose trying to make a point. Me I'm just wondering what it is and when your going to make it.
Testy? Ha, not when your post give me such a good laugh. Nice try though. Since you won't do it, let me brush off some of that fuzz on your own nose.
rabbit: According to my sources:
Second Amendment ratified 1789
US Army formed 1794
US Navy formed 1797
The Second Amendment was ratified before the formation of these branches of the US Military.
Why Rabbit you remind me of my ol' Buddy Kirk. He was another one that liked to talk just so he could listen to his ol jaws rattle. What you done Son worked you out a deal to get paid by the word instead of the post. Rattle on Rabbit who am i to stand in the way of a feller trying to make a buck the best way he knows how. I just wish you were better at 'cause Old Son you are boring me near to death.
Oh my, such quick wit! Okay, you win.
I'm not sure who Buddy Kirk is, another Presidential Czar perhaps?
Actually I get paid to side track, self absorbed, condescending liberals who post drivel and waste peoples time. It's on a sliding scale, the more important you are, the more money I make. Apparently, your not worth a plug nickel so, I'm doing it for the amusement. Thanks for the laughs.
I do hope this helps your ego a little bit more. Eventually you won't feel the need to post things to bolster your feelings of inadequacy. It's understandable, some people just have a need to compensate by making themselves appear superior. Good luck, some day you'll get there. By then, maybe you'll be worth 25¢.
Well Thank you Rabbit. You finally come off and show a little imagination. I'm proud of you. Now work on that a couple of years and then maybe you'd be worth having a conversation over something a little more substantial. I'll be waiting for you to catch up. You have a nice evening now you hear
rabbit . . .
All you seem to be doing is copy and pasting what the original poster wrote and trying to make a point. I'd suggest whoever is paying you fire you. You're just not that good at your job, bunny.
Can we PUHLEESE stop feeding the bunny girl the poor thing craps little turds and yet this one seems to think it has a seat at the table? It is a re-reg of many previously banned posters...
Say IT with ME - rabbit is an ATTENTION WHORE, who belives he has the upper hand... LMAFAO
Please DO NOT FEED the re-regs...
My gosh, now I'm rolling. I've got Feisty posting about me. That'll be good for...well NOTHING once again. But it's a nice laugh.
Fire me? I've wasted Independent Redneck Va., Layton-3733410 and Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL time responding to some silly pissing match that Independent wanted. I'll be getting a raise soon.
Now on a serious note, what is a re-reg? I get my news in the morning from MSNBC and occasionally read Newsvine comments. I just started posting because the misinformation, lies and hyperbole seems out of control here. Maybe I'm naive enough to think that an opposing opinion always adds value to any debate. It appears some just want to shout those who oppose off the stage. Just read the above remarks and for those who haven't closed their mind off completely can see the condescension and false accusations my post caused.
A little about me. I don't blog although I did one during a time when my daughter was dying. I can't say I'm really a political junkie. I don't belong to the NRA, Tea Party nor do I listen to Beck or Limbaugh. I say that because I'm sure those accusations will come next. I have no idea who the Koch brothers are, although I'm suppose to believe they are controlling me as a conservative somehow. I'm just concerned about the direction of our nation and thought my point of view, while different, may have value. Apparently Feisty, Layton and Independent think they're the ones that get to decide who post here and who doesn't.
In fact, if any of you mighty three are in Eastern Washington, drop me a line. I'll give you my address and we can discuss politics over a beer or some wine. If you're so inclined, we can sit out on the porch and have a cigar while we're at it.
BTW, independent, who is Buddy Kirk?
...and so, when challenged on President Reagan's letter of support for the assault weapons ban in 1994, Erich Pratt, communications director for the Gun Owners of America plays the "He Was Old And Senile" card???
So, why did he sign the Mulford Act as Governor of California in 1967?
Well Noid, I'm guessing they would blame that on un-diagnosed early onset if they weren't just witless twits. LOL.
They might be a little slow on the uptake today after waiting up all night for the shock-troops to come door-to-door demanding the forfeit of all their second amendment rights and violating their un-protected wimmin... Now they have their a$$es pulled down on their heads as hard as bull-riders but are still sleeping in shifts because a half-negro was allowed to issue "orders" to white men yestiddy...
The NRA is part of the Modern day GOP Cult! You know the Cult that now rules you father’s Republican Party. It's sad that these same Cult people who claim to have loved and revered Former President Ronald Reagan, now mock the memory of him for his views on gun control when he lived, and today he would be thrown out of their party for insisting on sensible gun control.
I have no doubt if President Reagan was alive today he would support President Obama in this fight, and ask as Obama has, “why getting an A-grade from the gun lobby is more important than giving parents some peace of mind when they drop their child off for first grade.”
I also know if Mr. Reagan would be fighting to take his party back from this extreme right wing that is hell bent on pushing their extremist and damaging policies onto our Nation.

Instead of blindly bashing an organization you know nothing about, shall we have a real discussion on what seem to be the commonalities and causes of these tragedies?
- Ronald Reagan
Perhaps the bashing isn't so blind. The NRA is simply a lobby group for the gun manufactures and those other things do not even act as good cover for the evil that they are. I own guns but would never send one red cent to these evil people whose only solution to the shootings is to put more guns on the street. As someone has already said, we as Americans own more guns per capita then any other country on earth, if more guns make us safer then there should be 0 crime in America. Its time to kick the NRA to the curb and stop the insanity of more, and more powerful guns in the hands of those that shouldn't have them.
Honestly I'm against a lot of gun regulation and I'm not very pleased with the NRA. They are coming off way to ideological for me. They aren't a religious institution but their leadership acts like zealots some times.
That commercial was really bad in my opinion. Sure the second amendment needs to be defended, just like all our rights. But they need to do better than this. Better arguments and higher standards of behavior.
Steven---no one faults the NRA for the programs you mention--in fact, those are good and valuable services. But the lobbying they do for gun manufacturers, even taking positions the majority of their membership disagrees with, is a different matter. And it is overshadowing the good work of the organization.
I too am a gun owner, permitted as well. I have both longs and shorts. I would also NEVER send a red cent to the NRA because they hide behind their public programs funneling an unknown percentage of the "take" into their game as the double-agent. NRA members believe the NRA is working for THEM, The gun and ammo manufacturing industry KNOWS they're working for THEM, and the U.S. Government is usually forced to hold still because the right-hand side of it is gargling on its wealthy under-carriage...
Not a pretty picture but somehow befitting the mind-set of Ms. LaPierre.
People that are unable to see through it are doomed to supporting what it stands for as a result of their being imbecilic.
Anyone using this news site and I use the word "news" very lightly should notice that we are only allowed to comment on some topics, not all! Gee I wonder why? Maybe MSNBC is scared we might have some negative things to say about their sponsors, so they prevent us from doing so by disabling comments.
Understand that this is corporate controlled media and these stories are filtered, and advertisers are protected! So go ahead take a look and see what "news stories" they permit you to comment on! This may open your eyes!
In the 5 years I have been reading First Read I have never seen an article that I could not comment on. As for other NBC sites that I don't read or comment on very often, I have yet to encounter even one I could not comment on.
Since you have only been a Newsvine member for a month I find what you say to lack creditability.
If this is a fact then please provide a link to any article that YOU cannot make comments on – Thanks
nbcnews uses First Read to push comments away from its news website, how did you get here? I got here from nbcnews.com
Go to other news topics at the main news website you will see that you cannot comment on many articles!
You still did not say where you cannot post your comments and what does “push” mean?
Where are your links / citations? Be specific.
Hi Dennis, under the "Lifestyles" section of nbcnews.com the headline "Idol shows its mean side in premier" click on that and look for the ability to comment after article. Please let me know if you find one?
When I say "push" I mean they take you to another website so that they can deny any connection to any comments.
SomethingtoSayHere
A lifestyle article? ... Oh where be thou Ist Amendment? BTW, FR is a section of MSNBC that you can post on using a baseball bat.

No, I am off to the library to write in the margins of all the books.
You can post the article in your homepage account and start a discussion there.
You ask for proof, I provide it! Then you side step it with witty balogna.

I'll join you in that one. You're banter with SomethingtoSayHere made my morning. I didn't know I couldn't post on American Idol stories! GASP! Such a shock - good thing I have coffee!
Something, if you like to comment on various articles, I'd suggest you read an comment on the other viner's links and articles. Lots going on there . . .
Layton ... nice to see you over at Katheryn Brandy's page ... checkout her jukebox
BCWC - it's nice to learn something new every day ... thanks ...impressive (and I owe you an apology)
Maybe every day they should run the pictures and stories of the children killed by guns on the news. That way people can't avoid the realities of this insanity. The NRA has plenty of money to run misleading and downright offensive ads, but who speaks for the kids? Unfortunately, they have no deep-pocketed lobby.
None of my Senators or Congressmen/women are going to support a federal assualt weapons ban mainly because they have proven not to work. Some of Obama's executive orders do make sense, but let the States decide what they want to do.
That might have been offensive to you that they ran that add about Obama's children, however it was totally spot on. His children are guard by people who have guns. However he wants to take away your right to protect your children. Are his children worth more than yours? His children are not worth more than mine!!! They should be protected the sameway. Putting armed guards at schools is pretty damm good idea. I know no lefty wants this it might cost the teachers union a few bucks, however they are all about the children so they might let this slide..
Then it would only be fair to run stories of people who have saved their family from home invasions with legally owned guns also. The MSM doesn't tell you about those stories.
Excuse me CUJOKE, but would you like a republican president to leave his kids unprotected. You have to admit, well you don't, but you would be intellectually incompetent if you didn't, that the presidents circumstance is a lot different then ours. He is a target not only domestically but world wide because of his posistion. I'm sorry, but the NRA's ad is not only poorly done but in extremely bad taste. It would be the same thing if we dug up those baby's that were killed in New Town to photograph them, simply to push the anti-gun agenda.
Statistically wornout, you are 22 times more likely to be wounded or killed by your own gun then to be assaulted in a break in. Guns do not make us safer. As many guns as there are in the U.S. we should be the safest country on earth, we are by far not.
Another false equivalency by cujoke42. How big a spotlight do your kids live in? Do people around the country have a bone to pick with you, and is there a chance that those same people may stoop to harming your kids?
We read the vile hatred of Obama on this site everyday - and this would be considered a friendly site. If one of your comments made someone angry enough, they would not be able to find your children, but Obama's kids are highly visible and could certainly be targeted by mental midgets who are capable of anything.
How about running the everyday stories and pictures of people saved from violence by their having a gun? Or the fact that most of the daily by gun violence occurs in areas with strict "gun control" measures?
Maybe we should run pictures and stories of the almost 3300 abortions performed every day of the year in the US. Maybe we should talk about the glorification of violence form the entertainment community in movies and video games. Maybe we should more sternly addrees the penalties for DUI deaths since there were more of them than deaths by firearms in 2011. When the left wants to put all of the above on the table, I will gladly entertain stricter gun laws. If you want to address violent death in the US, lets talk about ALL of it.
For all of you who will now stereotype me as a far right wingnut...I am pro-choice and own firearms.
Maybe they should do that too for the two children who drown every day. Or show the 103 families of dead people who will never come home because they died on the highway.
Maybe then people would drive carefully and take care not to leave their children unattended near water, especially if they haven't taught their kids to swim.
Maybe we should make knowing how to swim mandatory?
A falsehood.

The only reason you should be killed by your own gun is because you ran out of bullets and you're attacker beats you to death with it.
Genesis chapter 3,says man sins the sin of pride, believing he can be as God
and know good and evil as God.But the Bible teaches that nothing is equal to
God.With all the wars going on in the world,it's man believing he can be as
God,and know good and evil as God,and so play God and kill all the evil in
wars.And so the Bible says,Galatians 6: 7,Be not deceived,God is not mocked,for
whatsoever man sows,he reaps. There are no anti war people speaking out against
war in most of the Media,we love our children, but not necessarily other children
in other countries that wars kill.Wars kill children,If you save one child by
not fighting wars,even as a last resort,it's worthwhile,wars are not of God,as
Jesus says if you do it to the little children you do it to me.If you fight wars
many more children will be killed.Wars can't save the world, only Christ's Cross
can.Wars reveal their hypocrisy, including the final and worst war of Revelation.
Al-30177247, it's nice that you can quote the bible, but you should take a minute to read about all the destruction your mighty GOD has no problem causing as he is not as benevolent as you seem to think he is, at least the one in the book you are quoting from.
But the message of good is not lost one me!
As you can see Obama's greatest accomplishment is increasing our national debt by 6 trillion dollars. Let's hope he fails in his dictatorial efforts to change our gun laws.
Bush was responsible for much more, Obama is just trying to keep the sinking ship afloat! LOL, Take a moment and view a documentary called IOUSA or "I owe USA"it is a real eye opener!
Something i thought he was suposed to be about hope and change. I guess he wasn't hasn't changed anything according to you. I guess we will get four more years of his spending. It seem funny that he tripled what Bush spent... To save a sinking ship right... When does this become his problem to solve 20 years from know???? this is his he owns it he owned after the first year. If this was a Republican and they pulled the crap this guy did you would be going crazy insane... Spend spend spend and solve nothing this is what you get when you have a liberal that has no clue as to what he is doing.
Something -
You are wrong there. Bush was responsible for less than $5 trillion being added to the debt in 8 years, Obama is at $6 trillion and counting in just 4 years. Obama is not keeping a 'sinking ship' afloat, he's putting more holes in the hull!
I wish I could understand the liberal mindset that allows them to totally ignore basic mathematics - and fact too, for that matter.
I like the narritive I saw last night. GOP = Guns, over People. That about sums it up.
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." -Benjamin Franklin

I really don't expect too much intelligent discussion from Newsvine bloggers. After all, this is a MSNBC sponsored site. It amuses me that the majority of you think you represent the majority opinion. Nothing further from the truth. We are the united STATES of America. House is GOP controlled and they way Obama is proceeding, it appears the Senate may swing to the GOP. The more radical and nonsensical the proposals, the stronger the GOP will get. Let the states decide what they want to do about gun control.
Not to worry, Chris, we don't expect intelligent conversation from you. Judging from your post above, we're not going to get it either.
I don't know if you're aware of the fact that the GOP is eating their own? You do know that Boehner's office was trashed over the weekend by "teabaggers" in your party claiming that he wasn't conservative enough. You also so understand that in the last election, the Democrats picked up more seats in the House and fully expect the trend to continue in 2014.
The states are deciding what they want to do about gun control and are going above and beyond what the President has suggested.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/16/nyregion/tougher-gun-law-in-new-york.html?_r=0
Chris Never a Rhodes Scholar - no one EVER expects intelligent conversation from you. We've already seen it isn't possible.
If you had a clue you would know the GOP's attitudes are again pushing rational people out of the party because the extreme stupidity shown lately by Republicans is turning sane individuals off. The party is shrinking and even the leadership admits they have lost touch with the people. The demise of the GOP is quickly approaching unless they actually come into the 21st Century!
Fiesty i hope you side brings it as well. Not one thing that this president laid out is going to do anything to curb gun violence. He has laid out a bunch of laws that are only going to be followed by the people who all ready follow the laws. Stop and ask yourself who doesn't follow laws?? The criminals don't so why would imposing more laws on people that are not the threat do one thing to curb any gun violence. These laws are nothing but feel good knee jerk politics, that once again take rights away from the law abiding people of this country. There are at this time more gun laws on the books than we know what to do with. Our judical system doesn't even enforce the laws we have now how are they going to deal with any new ones? All this does once again is impede on the the rights of people who all ready follow the rules and will never kill anyone...
CUJOKE42......great post.....the focus should not be on guns, because bans never have or will never work. 300,000,000 privately owned firearms in the USA and counting. Don't punish someone like me who has taken a gun safety course, stores his weapons safely, and follows all the laws and regulations. If I want to buy an AR15, there should be no restrictions.
Bush 41 used Executive Order to ban the import of certain types of firearms shortly after a school shooting in California. The NRA and gun-crazy republithugs hardly said a word.
Obama uses Executive Order to address a wide range of contributing issues to gun violence (NONE of which banned or restricted manufacture of ANY firearm) and the Obama haters go into a "we're going to impeach you" frenzy.
Is it not obvious the the gun nuts have gone off the deep end? (aside from their obvious hatred of the President.)
Yes we hate this president with a passion. However unlike your liberal nut case friends we still haven't asked to have him in the grave which i heard countless times from you liberals which is supposed to be the party of tolerance. I guess that only applies when you agree with them what a fricken joke you people are.
Yes..liberal Hollywood invokes the first amendment when you talk about violence in the movies or videogames but don't have any problem with people attacking the second amendment.
no he didn't.How about a link to that comment about Bush 41,let's see it in writing and not in liberal doublespeak.
By banning foreign imports of guns you make the American gun companies stronger and I assume their lobby had a lot to do with that. You still will gain a certain amount of gun control and take a lot of guns off the street. American made guns will be more expensive and you will get a lot of the cheap Saturday Night specials off the street. The AK-47 will be banned by the embargo and since most gun deaths are from pistols you will take millions of foreign made guns off the street "prevent them from entering the street". If you have it so the American gun manufactures can't have their guns outsourced but have to build them here you take the lions share of pistols off the street and make the ones available for purchase much more expensive. Go to any major gun store and look at the scores of foreign brands being sold in the U.S..Never look a gift horse in the mouth, you can side step the second amendment and make this an economic issue. American jobs for American workers, and made in America...You stop the flood of cheap foreign guns and tripple the price of American made guns....The Bushmaster has already went from around $900 to over $2000 if you can find one, it will go to over $2500 from demand alone if the competition from foreign gun companies is removed. This will put it above the buy in price for a lot of gun nuts and you eliminate 90% of the new hand gun brands sold in the U.S. Most of the hand gun deaths are from foreign guns.
The wrangling over assault weapons has touched four presidential administrations. The administration of George H.W. Bush saw the initial push for a ban on assault weapons. President Bill Clinton signed the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban into law, while President George W. Bush drew criticism from advocates of both gun rights and gun control when he announced he would sign a renewal of the AWB in 2004 but didn’t push Congress to authorize the renewal. President Obama’s administration has witnessed renewed calls for a ban on assault weapons, though they have gone largely unheeded.
Larry: Great point!
Damn RIGHT it's a tough sale. None of us want to be the subjects' of the King. That is why we are free citizens of the United States of America.
the president makes every issue a tough sell by his style, i would say leadership style but it's not leadership. i missed the gun safety pitch but did see the year end press conference. his gratuitous as in unwarranted and unjustified comment that republicans are suspicious as in questioning of ssn, medicare and food for hungry children is the latest example of many. thin skinned no, irritated yes. he doesn't get it, can't get past campaigning and rather than inspire he irritates, rather than unite he divides. his approach might work with his base and the uninformed but it's not leadership it's dumb.
Tom,
He is nothing but a salesman not a leader - He would prefer to perform with teleprompters that tell him what to say than to truly lead. What a joke.
Lambo123 - no the joke here is you. The teleprompter stupdity again? You truly are an idiot. EVERY President in modern time - including Regan - has used a teleprompter. Please get some new material. You're embarrassing even to the low information right wingers!
With 300 million guns in the hands of Americans, I don't think anyone has stepped on 2nd Amendment Rights. Do you Republicans care about 1st Amendment Rights? You know, the ones denied to 20 1st Graders at Sandy Hook when they got Massacred? Oh yes, the NRA says more guns will make us safer? Right - You Republican pukes believe that! So what's the magic number, Limbaugh? 600 million? and even billion? We have half the guns on Earth, we should be the safest country on Earth. Right? Wrong? You Republican idiots know the answer. We all know the answer!
You liberal pukes have no answer to anything. Take away what you don't believe in is not going to solve any problem. You people are a joke. Why does it take a liberal a massacre to act on anything.. Because it is a good PR stunt that is why. This president doesn't give a crap about anyone not even you liberal pukes, he does what he does because it looks good on TV.. Gun control would not even come up if it wasn't for this travisty. Which by the way can be blamed solely on liberals who think that a person that is mentally unstable has more rights than the people that need protection from these people.
sir given the way you phrase things i doubt your blog name has anything to do with reality. if so the system screwed up big time if you ever made ltc except on this blog. it has nothing to do with your opinions but everything to do with how you express them.
LTK, we are not even in the top ten you idiot!
LTCKOHL You and your communist friends can have all my Guns Ammo first.. Come at me bro!
If that record was for any CEO of a business they would be fired for incompetence. All by adding 6 trillion more to the debt. It took 200+ years to add 10 trillion to the public debt it took this president 4 years to add another 6 trillion and project to add another 4 trillion before he is done - more people in poverty, more people on food stamps, stagnant unemployment rate and lowest amount of people in the job market. That will be this knuckleheads legacy. Yeah we sure are moving forward.
Oh wait for it, wait for it "it must be Bushs fault" lets add one more on top of the other issues - lack of personal responsibility for his performance
AL, your bible and mine is wrong about nothing being equal to God. Obummer is, just ask him! And happy birthday to the gorilla.
President Thomas Jefferson said"The strongest reason for the PEOPLE to keep and retain the right to bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves from TYRANNY in government"Makes you wonder if he foresaw the day we'd have an Obama like administration!!!
right their what you said should show people, their still are people who care, i say give more arms against tyranny and we will never know when we will be attacked from with in the obama adminstration.
kind of said the same thing below
Please provide examples of Obama's Tyranny. Where did you get the idea you may be attacked?
I'll bet you're a Glen Beck viewer - aren't you? Goin' to Independence? Glen Beck is nothing but a new age Jim Jones. Don't drink the kool-aid. Literally. That's how Jim Jones killed all of his followers. Beware Glen Beck and his lunatic religious fervor.
blearyeyed - it's totally useless to try to reason with the ignorance showed here by Michael-595198 and others. Their hatred of President Obama is so obvious and the reason is just as obvious. These are people who voted - twice - for George Bush - that should pretty much tell you all you need to know!
how can a president that depises Gods law and expect his laws not to be depised?
Which president are you talking about? Please provide specific examples of your claim.
Imartindale@live.com - the only person I see who clearly despises God is you. You claim the right to judge our very good President and you show your ignorance of him and of Christianity. You clearly represent the devil and no one else. So, go to h*ll where you and your kind belong!
Although I am all about free speech, and support the constitution fully...I am sick and tired of the extreme opinions of liberals AND conservatives that have gotten us here. There is no middle ground in any discussion, and the media gleefully posts the politically charged diatribes of folks like Fiesty, Job1, Dennis, and all the unnamed GOP folks who add little to the discussions except anger, posturing, and hot air to the mix.
Once, just one time you all should try to form an intelligent conversation that focuses on the ISSUE rather then the BELIEF system. At that point something might get solved.
We should be about the solution, not the belief. The belief is what got us here...and here is gridlock. All this posturing is BS - accomplishes nothing except fostering more hate and anger. Why not use some of your smarts to actually solve a problem instead of perpetuating one.
Say what you want here - I'm going to go contact a congress person with my concerns to try and make a difference rather then sit in front of a computer and read pathetic bleats from a bunch of sheeple.
Good Luck - and oh by the way bring Money and not just a phone call that is how Washington works
so,SM,I imagine you're including yourself since you posted it on here????
The hippocrit in cheif. Blasts people about using kids in political agendas, then sits there signing proposed gun laws with kids standind around him. How cute. Go ahead Barry, exploit the kids, use them for you agenda. I want to know, why if I can live along side gun haters accepting their hobbies and beliefs, even tho in my mind I disagree with a lot of what they do, if they ain't bothering me.. then go ahead and knock your self out. Enjoy what you like, it's a free country. Well then if I ain't hurting you or any one, let me do what I like to do even if you disagree and think me an idiot for it. Our troops fought and died for these rights. This country belongs to all of us. Not just we pro gunners , and not you ant-gun people. We must all face the real problem! Stopping violence against others starts at home. Parents share the major responsibility of todays problems. I'm no Bush fan, but b I'd bet that if he was doing as Obama is right now there would be squeals for impeachment. The man has stepped to far. I really believe the radicals when they call him "In love with himself" 'A God in his own mind" Humf!!!!!! he's only a man with little ecperience with his finger too, too close to the red BUTTON.
Nothing proposed is about taking away your guns - not if your sane.
And if you believe the radicals, your sanity becomes an issue.
Enough obama! since you have been in office you have not a budget, you got your tax raise behind the middleclass Americans back, oct. 2009 you already said that you will not touch our 2nd amendment, you lie Sir and the only way you got into office is to lie to the people. i am glad i own a gun, why, because of the tyranncy i am affraid that you will bring apon us Americans, if i had a choice i would like to see more Americans with guns as you are our president. If by chance and i am saying only this and it can happen to this country, if we were attacked in anyway their will be a better chance of surviving with American ready arms than just the military. our families would also feel safer with their husbands and fathers and mother's whom could protect them. at the split second instead of waiting for the military or police, the NRA is correct in stating your daughter's have protection, how about my son or granddaughter. i would protect them a hole lot faster than them officer's ever getting to my home. so to you Sir leave my rights alone and stop trying to change this country from what our fore fathers have fought to give us and the military now that still fights for our freedom, you Sir only want to show the world that you are God, you are just another pea in the pod. A puppet master.
Lunatic. Not one lick of sense in anything you posted.
Do you feel better now that you've got that out of your system? Bet you don't. You just feel more angry - right? Did you really think about what you wrote? Did you fact check the stuff you wrote - cause there's not too many facts to be found in your diatribe.
blearyeyed, Your eyes would not be so damn bleary if you would put down the BONG once in awhile !
The first sentence is correct ... Obama has not had a budget passed, AS REQUIRED BY LAW, during his entire first term in office. Oh sure, he has presented "half-assed" proposals, but hose proposals were so bad, so unrealistic ... he never got the first vote of support from a single Democrat ! LOL !!
Oh, and don't try to float that "turd" of an argument that Presidents don't pass budgets, that Congress does ... the President, as Chief Executive, takes a pledge to see to it that the laws of the U.S. are carried out ..... and that includes passing a budget !
Besides, it is Obama's lap dog Harry Reid in the Senate who takes no actions on budget proposals because he knows Obama does not want to be hindered by budget restrictions of ANY kind ! LOL !! Obama wants to GROW GOVERNMENT at every opportunity ... and that requires more and more tax dollars !
Jim
Wrong as usual. Separation of powers numb nuts. The President cannot force the House to do their job.
The very fact that you think he can shows just how little you know. Turn off Faux and do some honest research for once instead of posting crap.
Umm decipher this liberal msn spin for me please
And a larger percentage of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction (but a majority still think it’s on the wrong track). On the other hand, there’s data indicating that the nation isn’t better off than it was four years ago – and that the Great Recession continues to take a toll on families.
Feisty, conceal carry is coming real soon to our great state of illinois. I appear to live right down the street from you as well.
I need to read screen names closer.I thought her name was fatty
She's easy to spot, driving down Irving Park Road with her little car ablaze with Obama stickers, a quarter pounder in hand, getting irritated with drivers and screaming at everyone.
Like she needs another piece of strudel...
This message would be for David Walker. You need to go bury your head back in the sand or up your rump. Wherever it came from. If you don't want to live in America and support our Constitution, then move your big mouth out.
OBAMA IS EXPLOITING THE CHILDREN FOR HIS AGENDA!
WHAT ABOUT FOSTER CHILDREN TORTURED AND MURDERED OBAMA?
Rafael Gomez was the tragic poster child for all that was wrong with Washington’s child welfare system.
Isn't this a matter for the individual states? On the one hand, there's b!tching when Obama does anything, that he wants to be king, on the other hand, there's b!tching when he doesn't do something. Make up your mind (that gray matter that's supposed to be in between your ears) Sheepdip!
