The White House is hitting back at the National Rifle Association for its web video, which refers to President Obama's children.
"Most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as pawns in a political fight," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. "But to go so far as to make the safety of the president's children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly."
Here's the transcript of the NRA's ad:
"Are the president’s kids more important than yours? Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school? Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. But he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security. Protection for their kids. And gun-free zones for ours.”

I agree with the ad. We have armed people in courts, drivers license buildings, air ports, court houses, secret service, ect. If these people do not help control violence, then why do we have them?
Certainly not to protect the shallow end of the gene pool where you reside!
from what i see here, the people who are most angry and threatening of others are the ones calling for an end to violence. all of you gun grabbers seem to be the most violent on this discussion.

The NRA wants it both ways: it cites the President's children in a despicable ad and then says it doesn't cite the President's children in a despicable ad. "Repugnant" and "cowardly" would be a step up for the NRA.
It's funny because I thought what Obama was doing is repugnant---The fact that Sandy Hook may have been a Psy-Op shows just how far they will go to disarm americans---

Absolutely right. And the solution is to root out and eliminate the things that drive people to kill their fellow men (and women). Focus on the killer, not the tool. I hate to think what happens when guns are banned. How do people continue their killing? Explosives comes to mind and they can kill many more than guns do.

Recent FBI stats showed that more than 5 times more people were killed by knife than those killed by any rifle (assualt style included). It also showed the twice as many people were killed by hand or feet than those killed by any rifle (assualt style included).
FBI homicide stats for year 2011:
Firearms 67.8%
Knives or other cutting instruments 13.4%
Personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.) 5.7%
Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.) 3.9%
Other dangerous weapons 9.2%

Interesting how Obama treats his children in comparison to how he treats the children of others. Perhaps it is human nature but still. Most glaring example is the 2008 campaign, where he announced his children were "out of bounds", then his campaign went after Bristol, and all the other Palin children with bared fangs. But that sort of tactic has been a hallmark of the Obama campaign style since the early elections in Illinois. At least he is consistent.

I am not a member of the NRA, and never will be, but I will fight for the rights of our Second Amentment. Obama has not got the Right to have protection following him everywhere, and that Protection carrying firearms, if I do not have that right. As far as his Children being brought into this discussion, I think that it is the correct thing to do. Obama is being Hypocritical when he says that I cannot protect my children, but he has armed guards protecting his children. I voted for Obama, but he is Totally wrong on this.

The NRA is delusional and radical in its viewpoints and statements. They serve the gun manufacturers. No one wants to take away law-abiding peoples' guns. Those sheriffs in Oregon and Kentucky who have said they will not enforce the new Federal directives have no choice but to uphold the laws they swore to defend or else they can quit their jobs. No civilian should have access to assault weapons - they are created to kill people.

the second amendment says nothing about having guns to hunt with. it doesnt say we shouldnt have a certain type of gun.

To all that think that the Presidents kids don't deserve protection, the fact is that all Presidents recieved threats every day. This President has recieved the most of all Presidents due to the still rampant racism out there. So how do you know that there were not specific threats to his children. It is the Secret Services job to protect the President and his family. They have to investigate every threat against the President and his family.

I understand that the circumstances are different for the President's children but it is hypocritical for his kids to have armed guards and then for him to say that your kids don't need it or deserve it.

yes- hypocritical...if President Obama had said that our kids don't need it or deserve it...but he didn't say that. In fact- in this morning's press conference he stated that he would ensure schools that don't already have but want Resource Officers would get them- but he left it to the schools/city's/state's discretion.
A further bit of information "lost" in this NRA BS of an ad- the President and his family are protected by the secret service due to a government mandate based out of attempts of assassination of previous presidents (see Ronald Reagan)...some of those attempts were successful (see JFK). President Obama did not put in some insane request to have this protection, furthermore, his and his family's protection are no different than that of the previous administrations (however he has recieved more death threats than previous presidents to date). To call him a hypocrite for something that is out of his control is well...kinda pointless- their message conveys to those not savvy enough to know otherwise that HE requested this protection for his family...when as I've stated above is not the case AND there are several schools (public and private) throughout the US that do in fact have armed resource officers.
In fact- Columbine (and VT and Fort Hood) had armed officers on campus when the shootings happened there. Which leads to the fact that armed officers on school campuses is not a NEW exciting idea as the NRA would have you believe...it also has shown that "Good guys with guns" don't always stop "Bad guys with guns"
And...while we're on the topic of hypocrisy...did you see the new video game released by the NRA in the last few days? A shooting game rated for ages 4 and up....um...I thought video games glorifying shooting and violence were the root of all evil and the cause for these shootings....
On a personal note- I am NOT against the rights of our citizens to bear arms, while I own nothing more harmful than an air rifle- I have a family of responsible gun owners. I am not against common sense measures to do what we can to protect not only responsible gun ownership but those of us that choose to not have guns.
I also have 2 children- my youngest the same age as the kids that were murdered at Sandy Hook and I want my kids to have an amazing childhood for as long as they are allowed. I struggle w looking them in the eye and telling them that we as a great country look at a problem such as this and take a defeatist attitude. To believe that because criminals can already find ways around the laws is reason enough to stop from trying....that attitude scares me more than anything, and rightfully so...don't you think?

There were armed guards at Columbine. It did not help. An attacker with an automatic weapon can wipe out a few armed guards in a few seconds. Few teachers would want to be armed or have a firearm in their desk in the presence of children. We have protected all of our Presidents and their families because they are high profile targets of disturbed or hateful individuals (Reagan, Ford, etc.). The NRA is a lobbyist group for gun manufacturers. Most responsible gun owners and hunters want to have background checks and other measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and disturbed individuals. The best protection for schools is bullet proof glass and metal detectors. Locked doors.
NO ATTACKER @ Columbine had an "automatic weapon"... and the security there was told to stand down... your arguement is irrelevent..

It's almost hysterical---Obama has guards at his kids school---Most all of congress and the Senate are guarded--Big mouth mayor Bloomberg has 6 armed body guards, but he doesn't want you to be protected--Big Mouth Cuomo has 2 armed body guards, another jackarse hypocrite---BUT all the little people that pay their taxes, all you little expendables to the elite--They don't need no security for their kids schools...You people supporting Obama have lost all sense of reality, that is what happens when you turn into a cult worshipper, you lose all sense of right and wrong and you liberals are out in looney land!
