The White House is hitting back at the National Rifle Association for its web video, which refers to President Obama's children.
"Most Americans agree that a president's children should not be used as pawns in a political fight," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. "But to go so far as to make the safety of the president's children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly."
Here's the transcript of the NRA's ad:
"Are the president’s kids more important than yours? Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school? Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. But he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security. Protection for their kids. And gun-free zones for ours.”

NRA has proven over and over again they are cowards and will stoop to the lowest level to keep the money rolling in.
I am a gun owner.....but have never felt I needed assualt weapons or cartridges with 20-30 rounds. I can shoot, I can kill an attacker with a pistol or shotgun...I don't need a gun that shoot 20-30 rounds in seconds....I am a good shot.
Most of the gun owners I know feel the same......they don't need an assualt weapon or mega cartridges.....that takes the skill away from the sport of shooting, rather it be target shooting or hunting.
Well for one thing there gun owner, you can not hunt with a weapon that holds more than 3 rounds!!!!
Next you have to have at least a .24 cal round to hunt with a .22 can not be used to hunt with.
And a 5.56 mm is a .22 cal weapon.
Why do you people keep calling the NRA "a bounch of cowards?" when was the last time you debated the government?
They don't debate the Big Brother; rather, they follow the lead of others, like lost, programmed machines.
I don't remember the Democrats calling Bush crazy and nutty names. It must make the radical conservatives feel good about themselves. What a bunch of really lost individuals. Absolutely true. Obama gets free housing, why shouldn't we. He gets a free car, free maid and laundry service, probably even free stationary. We should all get that stuff free.
Yours do not have a target on the back. All the Presidents kid do have that problem. While I worry about my kids going the gas station because of all the crazy nuts with guns out there, I don't think they fall under the same level of required protection.
Maybe Obama should stop using ANY children as props for a photo op. The guy has no shame.
TRUTH, sorry, the shame lies with people like you accusing Obama of "using" these children when if fact he's trying to save other families the same grief of their own kids being slaughtered. What better example to set than with youngsters to show exactly what it is we are fighting for.

He's already moved on from this issue. This time in two weeks this issue will be yesterdays news and you will not hear a thing out of the adminstration on it. This is similar to how he handled comprehensive immigration in his last term. Specifically, he got the Latino vote and ran for the hills to avoid addressing it.

The guy flat out used those kids for a photo op. Plain and simple. In fact, the only one that should feel more lowly than Obama about using them is the parents that allowed their kids to be political pawns for a day.

What the NRA said was spot on. Obama's childern are protected by armed guards... We pay the bill for that another truth. Our childern are no less important than his another truth. Nothing the NRA says is "spot on". Choosing to bring the president's children into this debate is beyond cowardice. If you don't understand why a sitting president's children are guarded by the secret service then there's nothing anyone can do to help you. So does former President Bush still deserve SS protection at his home and abroad? I didn't care for him but he deserves that protection from some nutcase who would do harm to him.
It doesn't matter what the President did. He has no authority to do it anyway. So it can just be ignored. You know like the media ignores his lies everyday. Once again, any weapon used to attack another person is an assult weapon. A person popping another person in gym class with a wet towel is using an assult weapon. Of all the shootings in the US, less that 4% are from rifles considered 'assult weapons'. Most people, like the moron on this blog who goes by "chilled" which represents the activity of his drug induced brain, do not realize that when someone does not care about their own life, they can basically kill whoever they want. What to do you think suicide bombers are? In the case of the NewTown act, the shooter, like most terrorists, was a coward and went to a gun free zone. Notice how all the bad shootings happen in gun free zones? Look a Chicago...case closed. But this (the President's actions) is not about "saving children", it's about taking control step by step. Does anyone remember history class? There is a reason we are armed...to protect us from our government. It already happened once in this great land. Don't think it won't happen again. Just more incrementalism. Take this type of bullet today, then take away the gun that uses it tomorrow, then take away another gun that looks like that gun, and so on and so on. Last but not least, a gun has never killed a person in the history of the world...because a gun is inanimate. People kill people. No law can stop those who are willing to give up their life. So, by deductive logic...our President is trying to be a dictator and enact laws...that are unconstitutional, and are therefore...not laws at all.
While stretching the definition to an absurd degree can turn even a mean look into an assault weapon, most reasonable, objective and rational people understand it to be a semi-automatic, extended round clip rifle built for close-up, rapid killing of other human beings.
The reason US persons have the right to own and carry weapons is found in the wording of Amendment 2 which gives that right. It is to preserve the state of freedom of the people from its own governments. The act of restricting those rights is infringement. Yes, Sandy Hook was terrible. Find another way. Disarming the law abiding only makes them an easier target for any/all who would take advantage and has weapons (criminals and the gov't).
I bring this us to point out the ABJECT STOOOOOPIDITY of the huge majority of all American's, both on the Left and the Right. The Constitution is essentially a dead letter. Everyone pays lip service to the venerable old rag, but no one takes it seriously. Otherwise, the federal government would exercise only its ennuerated powers, and virtually all of the federal government's spending outside of defense would be in the realm of the states. Otherwise the Congress would jealously guard their prerogatives. Otherwise the Judciary would say what the law says, and not what they think it means. otherwise, we the people would've thrown out all of the bums, on the left and the right. But none of that's happened. It just keeps going on and on and on.
The USA needs two things: a political divorce between the left and the right, and both sides need a enima. What the left says about the right is spot on, and what the right says about the left is spot on. But what each says about itself are self-serving lies. And I hate them both for it. There's no way to wake up the people who are fed a non-stop diet of lies from circles political, the media, and the entertainment industry.

I always love how the gun rights supporters quote the 2nd Amendment as "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" and ignore the whole "A well regulated militia" part.
Any law abiding, rational and responsible citizen who is a member of a well regulated militia which includes training, registration, musters and drills should have the right to keep and bear arms. That way, all the Jethros, Sonnys and Juniors could actually be soldiers instead of just playing acting in front of their drinking buddies.

This “ad” is just despicable, totality repugnant and over the line. The NRA should have their voice to protect a constitutional amendment but its “ads” like this that totally undermine their cause and the integrity of their organization. They have just lowered themselves to the point of extremism; they are destroying their own credibility, shooting themselves in the foot so to speak; using children on the one month anniversary of Newton. They are their own worst enemy hurting their own cause.
The conservatives are always wanting to change Amendments when it advances their line of misguided thinking so lets also change the 2nd Amendment.
I am not a member of the NRA. I have never owned a gun. I no longer have children in school.

We already have laws to prevent criminals from having guns. To sell someone a gun without ensuring transfer of ownership is a risk most are unwilling to take; one knows they might be dragged into any crime committed with that weapon if they can't prove they didn't have access to it.
I hope all those who are scared, afraid and feel vulnerable can find the courage to not panic! Guns have been around your entire life and most that fear them have yet to see one used. This means that what you fear most is fear itself.
People will always die at the hands of other people with or without guns. Those that think yet more laws will change that are most certainly wrong and they know it!
Assault like weapons are rarely the weapon of choice! Banning them and large magazines won't change anything. Next the Crazies will use cars, bombs, and assortment of other weapons, like is done in other areas of the world.
