The 49 Republicans who voted for the second batch of Sandy funding last night were a mix of East Coast and Gulf State lawmakers.
In fact, 31 of the 49 were from either Gulf or East coast states.
- 18 were from the Northeast, including six each from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
- 11 of the votes came from Gulf States -- three each from Florida (also East Coast) and Alabama, two each from Louisiana and Mississippi, and one from Texas.
- 2 more were from Virginia

Only 49 out of 233 Republicans voted to do the right thing!
Once again it's the Democrats who step up and carry it across the finish line!
I have to wonder if the GNOP has purposely set itself on the "self destruct" setting..?
So, who voted NO?
The remaining misfit R's voted no. Remember next time tornatos hit the midwest or hurricanes hit Florida and the gulf states or the Southern states of the East Coast or a drought or floods or fires or tornatoes hit Texas. REMEMBER!
Can someone please explain the rest of the GOP/TP bozos that they were sworn in to UPHOLD and not to HOLD UP?
While I am angry at the Republicans for voting no, I would never support not helping fellow Americans after a disaster hit. It's just not the American way. We have always helped our fellow Americans out in time of need. Don't let the Republican Congressmen drive this wedge between us to. We are better than that.
Agreed Jersey, we always should help our citizens no matter what.
Whats really infuriating are the ones who voted no while their districts are Currently receiving disaster funding from the Federal government. These districts should be cut off until they replace their so called representatives.
For the second time in a row a strong showing of House Democrats combined with a small minority of House Republicans have passed major bills that are beneficial for the country.
If John Boehner really wanted to show Leadership, he would ally with Madame Pelosi and President Obama, use this formula for the passage of all reasonable pragmatic legislation, bypass the teaparty coalition, and quite possibly become one of the greatest Speakers in the history of the U.S.
HA HA HA HA THATS REALLY FUNNY!!!! Boehner the greatest speaker. HA HA HA
We have been rebuilding Florida and the rest of the South for decades worth of hurricanes. I bet the Californians were grateful when all of America chipped in without a peep, following their earthquake.
We in the Northeast and the Midwest have always shouldered the bills for our frequent snowstorms. We buy the plows and other equipment, because they are normal occurrences in our part of the country. I am quite sure that over the decades, the cost for snow removal would dwarf the costs of the recovery from hurricanes down South.
In Florida, hurricanes are the normal occurance, but they have always treated them as some kind of special event, always using Federal dollars to bail out, instead of budgeting the monies they would require.
In the West, earthquakes are the norm, although they rarely happen. Hopefully, they will budget for the next one, which will inevitably occur, because when it does, we will give them the same consideration they are now giving to us.
Ralph, the CA republicans listed voted FOR the funds, and against the wishes of their party. Californian's in general understand the need for federal funds after a disaster, and in general, would vote to provide funds for mid-west tornadoes and river floods, south-northeast disasters.
This is what it looks like when Republicans PRETEND to be governing. No matter how much they try to act like real legislators, they fail. The Republican Party is crimnal organization and this small group of GOP phonies pretending to do the right thing doesn't change that fact.
Two great comments on this thread:
1) Silver Flyer - I agree, Boehner really could break us out of the mess we are in if he had the cojones to do it. Leadership by him... Wow, what a concept. But totally marginalizing the Tea Party obstructionists just floats my boat!!
2) RamFLA - I love it! Up hold the needs of our great nation, not hold it up like common thugs and criminals.
Feisty - I'm all for helping these people, but between the "piling on" of unrelated "gifts" to other agencies, and projects and the total indifference of how this will be paid, I'm not sure I can disparage those who voted against.
Rather than argue: "... but this is the way we've always done it.." Why not propose a way to pay for every penny? How about a temporary gas tax of 5 cents per gallon in the affected states and 1 cent per gallon in all other states. Once its paid for, the tax goes away. I can't see how this is a bad thing.
Thanks...
I guess they were tired of getting torn apart by Hurricane C. Christie.
I'm lovin THAT hurricane....
lmao...the rest of those red state republicans have set the tone for future disaster relief efforts...no money from the rest of us for earthquakes, tornados, flooding, dairy, corn, wheat, barley, cotton, peanuts, sugar, tourism..all things the red state pukes have wilingly taken from the rest of us without you know, actually having a way to pay for it...it's time voters felt the pain of their idiotic votes
gosh a few that voted reality based. They knew their day will come when their regions need such funds and the thought that they could deliver the bacon without making cuts elsewhere has scared the pants off them.
We should all be aware of those that did not vote for Sandy funds and when the time comes for their states to need funding to recover from their next natural disaster they should get none unless they identify offsets from other funds their states gets for other things first. And more disasters are coming. Spring will soon be here and flooding will occur. Then more fire season and of course hurricane season.
The only thing those of us without millions to buy a congressional vote can do is to vote OUT sitting congress persons who voted "no" on this. But amazingly, almost all incumbents get voted back in. Only about 10% of We the People view Congress favorably, but We keep re-electing OUR representatives. These clowns act the way they are paid: they are paid to stay in office and do the bidding of the K-Street lobbyists. But I bet the friggin Tea Party and right-sliding republicans will GAIN seats in 2014.
It just hit me, those televangical guys like Pat Robertson must be having a tough time on this so I will help them out. God is sending these natural disasters to get the republican party to split up, show the ones that really care about all Americans. God keeps sending these disasters as much as the last few years had them at very high frequency and that will eventually require full employment by putting all the chronic unemployed on emergency response and recovery teams (we have thousands of unemployed vets that could start those up right now, national emergency response/recovery and infrastructure support teams - like FDR's civil works corps in the Great Depression plus emergency duties).
Remember the old southern
dixie-crat coalitions? This is the begging of a new one.
Remember the old dixie crat coalitions. this is the second round.
This vote proves that the Republican Party is not capable to lead this country. 180 Republican representatives voted NO. There is no part of this country that is immune to disasters. Whether it is flooding, earthquakes, storms or any other weather disaster, the people need assistance from the government to help rebuild infrastructure such a roads, electricity, provide security and assist victims. For Republicans to vote against this measure is selfish and spiteful. For the 40 plus Republicans who voter for this measure is much appreciated. They already know the assistance from prior disasters and know that these funds are well needed. The public should very much remember who voted NO and remind them it could happen to them one day.
Isn't it funny, that when Israel requres some extra aid, in the billions, our politicians vote in lock step to send it to them as soon as possible. When the people of our own states require aid, for a natural disaster, they cannot summon the decency to act.
: Israel's economy is thriving in a global
economic meltdown. The Jewish state's 2009-12 economic growth of 14.7 percent
leads all the advanced countries of the world, followed by Australia with 10.7;
Canada 4.8; United States 3.2; Germany 2.7; France 0.3; European Union minus
1.5 percent.
Last year alone,
Congress voted unanimously to provide Israel with 10 billion dollars in guaranteed
loans, with America picking up the fees and interest charges. The bill was
written and sponsored by Jewish Congressmen, including Eric Cantor. It was
passed with a voice vote in the Senate, so no one could see how they voted and
not mentioned in the main stream media. In addition, America paid 1 billion
dollars to Israel towards their “Iron Dome” project and the usual 3 billion in
aid, which America has been giving Israel for decades. Of course we have to pay the interest, as well as the principle back to
China.
The 3 billion dollars, we give each year, amounts to over $500.00, for
each man, woman and child in Israel. Nice gift.
In America, the politicians want to slash Medicare and social security for our retired workers,
but there is NEVER a mention by even one person in Congress to slash aid to
Israel, the country with the strongest economy and most powerful military in
the ME, by far.
Why don't you complain about over a billion to Egypt or the total of 50 billion in aid to all rest of the world
http://foreignassistance.gov/CountryIntro.aspx
Monies to Egypt is really given in order for them to be nice to Israel. I have no problem with cutting aid to Egypt.
It must be noted that on a per capita basis, Egyptians receive a few dollars, whereas Israelis receive at least $500.00 per person. Egypt, a much larger, more populous and poorer country, receives no where near the aid received by Israel, especially considering Israel has been receiving billions for decades and is well able to support themselves. Apparently, Jews don't mind being parasites on the American taxpayer, because their lobbiests just keep on bribing and sucking money from a bankrupt America. No self pride, I guess.
Zionists were directly responcible for the planning and selling of the Iraq war, which will cost over 3.5 trillion dollars, which is another reason to dispise Israel. Not one Egyptian was involved.
All Democrats and Republican politicians who added any pork barrel crap to this also needs to be fired from his job. Reminds me of Obama care with all the bribery going on to pass it
What you call bribes are called negotiation and compromise. Something Republicans never heard of. I agree that this should not have tax benefits to NASCAR and Peurto Rican rum makers, etc.
It is about time this passed!
Give the names of those voting NO not those voting YES! Now we are left with identification by elimination. No excuses from the NO voters if their names are put out there.
I have no problem ending all foreign aid. Let them borrow from China themselves why should we be the middleman.
Roger can you hide a car under your jacket or carry it into a school to walk down the hallway gunning your engine and it hits 20 kids in less time it took them to take a couple of last breathes? Do cars have a hair trigger, or can you go in and buy 30 cars without calling your insurance company or registering them with the State. Your correct in your assessment that just because it is Constitutional to own a gun means we can go out and buy as many as we want in order to show we have rights. You are wrong that it makes it okay to be able to purchase all you want and use them anyway you want. Just trade them like baseball cards and wave the biggest and best around for all to see you can now protect yourself from the Government. You can't save yourself from them because they don't have to come to your house to annilate you. Bunker bombs, piped in poison, on and on. You can't win a war against the USA. Stop watching those films where the average citizen wins over the real ARMED FORCES.
Paul Ryan voted against helping New Jersey and New York. What a hypocrite!
When the sandy funding didnt go thru, immediately they turned on each other like DOGS.......I love the republicans....there fun to watch!
