The White House announced Tuesday that, beginning this weekend, presidential limousines will bear the District of Columbia license plate that includes the phrase "Taxation Without Representation."
The license plate, created in 2000, adorns most of D.C.'s vehicles with a pithy reminder that residents of the capital city do not have voting representatives in the House or Senate. New registrants in the city now receive the tags automatically unless they opt for another type of license plate.
The saying has become a rally cry for proponents of D.C. statehood.
"President Obama has lived in the District now for four years, and has seen first-hand how patently unfair it is for working families in D.C. to work hard, raise children and pay taxes, without having a vote in Congress," said White House spokesman Keith Maley. "Attaching these plates to the presidential vehicles demonstrates the President's commitment to the principle of full representation for the people of the District of Columbia and his willingness to fight for voting rights, Home Rule and budget autonomy for the District."
The license plates will be affixed to presidential vehicles in time for the weekend’s inaugural festivities and remain in place for the duration of Obama's presidency.

Americans aren't represented by comrade obama, regardless!!!
Just a few days ago, I started a petition on the whitehouse.gov website to give the District of Columbia voting representation in both houses of Congress. Please click on www.DCinCongress.info to see the draft Constitutional Amendment, and click on http://wh.gov/P5O4 to sign the petition. Offer is limited to US citizens. You have to register at the whitehouse.gov website to sign the petition.
If it gets 25,000 signatures by February 7, then the President will see it and respond.
They would have voting representation if they would join the state of Maryland where they belong.
They did, at first, but that was over 200 years ago.
I don't think Maryland wants them now, anyway.
Well the Country doesn't want them as a State either. We're not fooled. Its just another cheap Democrat Power play. The local DC politicians don't really care about voter representation. They just want the power. If they did they would push for the logical result of joining Maryland. Geographically it makes sense. Making them a State makes no sense at all.
Please read the links I have provided before commenting.
This proposed Amendment does not make DC a state. It just grants its citizens as many members of the House as they would have if they were a state, and a single Senator who would be elected for four- (not six-) year terms. If the population of DC should slip below certain thresholds, they could lose their Representative(s) or Senator.
Please look at www.DCinCongress.info for the specifics, and, if you agree, click on http://wh.gov/P5O4 to sign the petition.
I notice that one of the links does not work.

So people in Washington join the club. We all feel like there is taxation without representation.
Seems appropriate.
At some point, we all suffer “taxation without representation.” Living in the deep blue state of Illinois, I can truly sympathize with the folks in D.C. It’s not a good feeling to have no one in Government standing up for your views. We’re all supposed to have some voice, I think.
Is it the President’s place, though, to get involved in state, group or city issues? I understand if he supports the idea of DC voting rights, but should he wear the campaign buttons of the causes of groups? As an activist or organizer it would be appropriate. As the President he should try representing the whole country somehow. Singling out groups, singles out others and promotes the dysfunction and division we’re experiencing now.
Perhaps he just doesn't like the fact that a huge chunk of the citizens in this nation have no representation with voting rights with regard to the federal legislation and taxation with which they must endure. Why does this have to be a divisive or partisan issue? Why should any of us be okay with this?
This particular issue is one on which we shouldn't be divided. We need to revisit the reasoning behind forming the district way back when and see if those reasons still apply. Ideas on the surface generally look good.
I was speaking more broadly about the President taking up causes of groups, city or state issues. He should support concepts (freedoms and rights) but not take sides on non-federal, non-nationwide issues.
This limo license plate is an indication that Obama is paying back a local DC funder by leasing his limos from a private organization rather than using the normal government limos.
One more purchasing of votes. Remember, DC does not have a representative, but it still votes!
Obama is on his way to dictatorship. A 3rd term is already being proposed by the left!
Does "indication" mean you don't really know this for a fact? I'd bet the vehicles are fed owned and not leased.
I cannot wait for the lefties outrage at the GOP members who voted against the Sandy bill tonight. Then, can't wait to define the pork that was in it and ask the ever present question "how much for what and I thought we were cutting spending on wasteful sh!t" and watch their heads explode as they tout the "how can we abandon those citizens in the northeast". It is called responsible and sticking to your pledge of cutting waste. You remember, the reason you lost so many seats in 2010.
Everyone of of us citizens of the United States should be able to display that type of license plate. We have NO REPRESENTATION IN WASHINGTON. All we have is representatives of the KOCH Brothers and Big Corporations, Big Oil ,Big Banking ,Big Wall street and Big Insurance. WE THE PEOPLE don't have any representation. If we could get rid of Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, John Boehner [nothing runs like a Deere nor smells like a JOHN] AND Nancy Pelosi ,maybe we'd have a chance. WE have no representation, just a bunch of career jerkoffs and birdbrains who screw up everything they touch.
These plates just show you how ignorant people are of their own history. The complaint that led to the Revolution was not "no taxation without representation," it was "no direct taxation without representation." FYI, the income tax is an indirect tax (Brushaber v. Union Pacific RR). Only direct taxation is related to "the enumeration of a census," and therefore related to representation in Congress. (No, the 16th Amendment did not abolish the distinction between direct and indirect taxes, not did it remove the requirement for apportionment with the levy of a direct tax. Far toocomplex to go into here, but start with Brushaber and also read Stanton v. Baltic Mining Co. and Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co.)
Obama should have personalized plates..
SPENDER IN CHIEF or BIGGEST SPENDER IN HISTORY.
Both would be correct and he could actually advertise something in his presidency that is true.
Actually, it's Congress that decides how much the President is required to spend, as well as how much the President is required to raise in revenues, through taxation.
Ironic. The folks in D.C. think this is a sign of President Obama's solidarity with them. In reality, he likes the slogan "Taxation Without Representation" because it embodies the way he wants to govern the country.
According to a study published in the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, for "every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides."
In other words, a gun is 22 more times likely to be used in a criminal assault, an accidental death or injury, a suicide attempt or a homicide than it is for self-defense.
I prefer the odds associated with not having a gun in my home.
First, I do not accept these figures as meaningful. Sort of like having a car. Your infinitely more likely to be injured in a car accident than if you have no car. Or, having whiskey in your house, your infinitely more likely to get drunk than if their is none in your home, or owning a dog, your .....you get the idea. All I know is I have had multiple guns in my home for over 43 years and no murders, suicides, or shooting deaths. I know myself. I trust myself with a gun. I do not need to factor the odds to guess if I am likely to harm myself or others. I actually know me which is far better than knowing a statistic.
This is really a simple solution. The District of Columbia was formed from portions of Maryland and Virginia. Just return that territory to the respective states. Based on population, they will get any additional representative in the next census and will have 2 Senators. Watch them howl though because that is not what they want. what the Democrats want is a new state with 2 more Democratic Senators in the Senate. Never mind that would be totally unfair. DC is a very small area with relatively few residents compared to the majority of other states. Nevertheless, the Democrats want to use this opportunity to one day create a new state with 2 more Senators. The area and residents were removed from two existing states to create DC and if that is over, send the territory and citizens back to where they belonged before DC. Maryland and Virgina..
The fair solution would be to have the DC residents vote as citizens of one of the states that gave up the territory to begin with. Roughly half as citizens of Virginia, and the rest as citizens of Maryland. To give two Representatives and a Senator to such a small part of the population would be grossly unfair to the rest of Americans.
That's BS Obama just wants to suck up to potential Democratic voters to support his profligate spending.
Truth be told, no matter where you live in these United States, you still have Taxation, without true representation.
I dont know Invisiable hand I have two uncles whos lifes were saved because they were armed. One was in his pawn shop when two dudes came in and pulled their weapons he was able to shoot both of them before they got theirs pulled. My other uncle was on his was back from the flea market with his wife and greanchild in the car when a van passed then and blocked the middle of the road my uncle pulled out his gun with a laser on it and pointed it at the van. The van sped off when they saw he was armed. We had a young lady in my town who was followed by a man from work he ran her off the road and then preceded to rape her and beat her to death with a baseball bat. She didnt have a gun and was at the mercy of the bad guy.
I get the plate, but is this really a good idea for Obama to have on his big old cars? I think he is having them put there as an inside middle finger to the American people. Anyone know how much D.C. has appropriated to it and rakes in from the Federal government every year compared to other cities? Anyone know why D.C. does not have representatives? Anyone know how absolutely corrupt the D.C. government is? This is a joke.
Hey gang! A reminder that Feisty, David Walker, Pigotry, and Beverley are all the same poster. They all post from the same IP address.Really, I am pretty sure they are not an individual person either. It seems by the way all their posts open up with the story as it is posted, and they all open up with about 200 of those "like" clicks so the comment always stays on the first page, and the grammar and usage changes from comment to comment from the same person(s). More likely that a bunch of NBC people think of something liberal and really either controversial or angry to put as the opening comment to get clicks on the page and more advertising revenue. As most of the reporters (if they too are really individuals) for the NBC site are paid by the click, and they want to see their article stay as long as possible... well, you figure it out.
Any thing that Obama does is pointed at getting back at the America that has caused all the problems that Obama perceives as being against his Muslim Brotherhood beliefs. The man is a walking talking time bomb waiting to explode when the time is right. Chicago Gutter Politics is being played big time, and the GOP are in a tail spin, now Obama is threatening to hold back social security & military checks back and he can shove the blame on guess who The GOP for not cooperating at the table, that means I win & you lose. With all of the tactics and apparently people are eating it up, Obama is the culprit who is not willing to bend, I don't believe what some GOP members are saying that he doesn't know how. This is the Obama way my way or the hi-way. But I still say that all of this will come back and bite Obama in the ass and his end will not be pretty.
The King is trying to be like his subjects and everyone is in an uproar.
Think I will go to the story on people raiding their 401k's to survive.
You people just don't freaking get it.
But you will.
Welcome to the USA under the vision of the Progressives and faux republicans...
Cronies hold representative positions for the States but they only represent themselves, their family and friends and those entities capable of giving thousands to campaign funds. The proletariat is around just to fund politicians' fiscal excesses and malversation. The proletariat has no representation and pay taxes dearly.
Anyone, even your neighbor, could run the government better.
The US Virgin Islands residents don't get to vote in even the Presidential election. They get to send a representative to the house but she can't vote either.
DC should not be granted statehood. There was a reason the forefathers made it a neutral area. It represents the entire US. If the people living there don't like paying the taxes and not having representation. Then move.
Putting the DC plates on the cars is another sign that Obama has total disrespect for the foundation on which this country was built. He wants total control and his mindset is built around that belief. I pray that he trips up in a fashion that will lead to his impeachment.
Technically we have representation in this regard. It's just that our representation is screwing us.
With the new increase in social security tax, I feel special, because now I realize I am one of the wealthiest Americans out there and all of us who make under 115k that got hit with the tax should now go out and celebrate. Woohoo
