Mark Sanford to announce run for Congress Wednesday

Jenny Sanford, the ex-wife of former South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford, comments on his reported run for Congress.

Updated 3:10 pm ET: Ex-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford will announce tomorrow that he is running for Congress, First Read confirms with an aide close to Sanford.

Sanford will announce via press release tomorrow; there will be no press conference or public events associated with it, according to an aide.

NBC previously reported that Sanford would attempt a political comeback running for his old first congressional district seat. Sanford would be running to replace Tim Scott, who was appointed to Jim DeMint's Senate seat.

DeMint resigned from Congress to head up The Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington think tank and activist group.

National Review has a lengthy Q&A with Sanford on why he's running, including his first shot at explaining his 2009 disappearance and affair with an Argentine TV reporter.

"There’s a larger philosophical question. In life we’re all going to make mistakes, we’re all going to come up short," Sanford said. "The key is, how do you get back up and how do you learn from those mistakes? . . . But I think that the bigger issue is, don’t judge any one person by their best day, don’t judge them by their worst day. Look at the totality, the whole of their life, and make judgments accordingly."

He added, "You’ve got to look under the hood. There’s that sensational headline, to look and say, 'Wow, big ethics charge.' Beyond the headline, what does that mean? You say, 'Hm. There were 37 counts the ethics committee brought, and did you know half of those are for taking a business-class ticket?' You look under the hood and you say, 'Wow.'"

Sanford also touted his record, including that he turned down stimulus funds.

"I was rated No. 1 in Congress by National Taxpayers Union, and No. 1 by Citizens against Government Waste in efforts to limit federal spending, rated by Cato as the most fiscally responsible governor in the United States," he said. "I was the first governor to turn down stimulus funds. I won’t go through all the merit badges, but I could give you dozens of different occasions where I stood very solidly on the side of the taxpayer."

It took several dominoes to fall for Sanford to be lined up to run in this race, something Sanford also acknowledged.

"I’m not saying it was God-ordained or anything like that," Sanford said, "but a series of rather miraculous events have coincided here, that did not escape the attention of the friends who were urging me to look at this."

Another Devout Christian who's religion has everything to do with the things he says and nothing whatever to do with his behavior.

These hypocrites never cease to amaze me.

I want to submit a fictional story about a man so hell bent on taking over a country he'd have people killed in order to press his gun agenda to diss-arm the public so they couldn't fight back, then take over...fiction of corse, But you have to ask yourself what the heck is going on? No assult weapons allowed, No weapons alloed that carry more then seven rounds...Hey thats cool that leaves me with my Old Colt.45 , I can shoot the wings off of a fly with at 50 feet with that thing ( no brag just fact) and it's deadlier then my Glock so I only need one round to get the job done....Don't worry folks I'm not out to kill anyone, But limiting the number of rounds a weapon can carry is rediculous, the same as banning assult weapons, especially when all it take to kill a person is "one shot"...

And who is going to deside which person is stable enough to carry a firearm? I mean there are the obvious, The criminal with needle marks on his arm, The Hindi screeming Ala waving his arms with and AK-47 in each arm...But what is stable, Who's more sain? the man or women with a .22 in his pocket, or the guy with a fully automatic machine gun and grenades stuffed in the pockets of his britches? Fact is, No one knows...

I've seen fully retarded people with more sence then some so called stable people, So what about the salesman who couldn't make a sale that day and desided open up on the people in the bar durring happy hour? he was fine when he left the house this morning...Or the housewife, who's kids said Mom'ma one to many times that day and simply couldn't handle it anymore, so she went in grabbed Paw's revolver and blew them away...

Wake up...You don't need a gun to kill there are plenty of other ways to get the job done, Sticks and stones, a Pencil, knives and forks, even a spoon if properly sharpened, sunglasses, the roof of a nice five story building, a car, truck, train, and yet you're worried about a gun? come on, In the propper hands a tragity like the shooting in Denver never would have happened, But no one was armed, nor would the shooting at the schools you've been reading about...A person whether they be a criminal or not can get a weapon and kill, just walk out into your kitchen and look around, and if they're going to kill they're going to find away to get the job done...So whom would you rather have in the room with you while your cowarding in a corner, the person with a gun who is able to stop the bad guy? or the person next to you waiting to get shot?

This isn't about guns or who has them, it's about cowards and anti-gun activists who would take away our right to carry a firearm and the ability to protect not only ourselves, but you as well, And It places not only you in jeopardy, but Our Country....

I bet 20 parents at Sandy Hook elementary wish Lanza had shown up with sticks, stones, a pencil, a knife, a fork, a spoon, sunglasses, or any other non-weapon of your choice instead of a gun. Yeah, it is about guns.

You mean you bet the 20 parents wish the teacher and principal were also armed with guns so could have stop/killed Lanza on his killing spree. Yep, it is about gun control, the school had gun control not allowing teachers nor principals to bring in concealed weapons. Gun Control allowed Lanza to go on his killing spree and "succeed" at it. Gun "Control" only affects the law abiding, the criminal and/or mentally ill like Lanza still go on killing sprees no matter the Gun "Control" laws on the books

You mean like the armed guards at Columbine stopped the killing there? Oh wait, they didn't. How about the entire security force at Virginia Tech? Nope, not there either. Oh , I know! That armed guy in the crowd at Tucson. He probably took out Loughner. Oh, wait, no he didn't. Instead he came really close to taking out someone that was trying to render aid to Giffords.

The NRA's "solution" to mass shootings is an incredibly cynical attempt to sell yet more guns, and yet more guns. And the more guns there are floating around out there, the more shootings there'll be. More guns don't stop gun violence. People who pass laws banning high capacity magazines and assault rifles stop gun violence.

DRK, I stated NOTHING about armed guards, The wackos struck at Columbine at the time when the KNEW the LONE Armed Guard was NOT in the area. I am speaking of allowing faculty and staff to carry CONCELLED guns, this would be the murder wacko's nightmare for that person does NOT know WHO actually has a gun. Murder Wackos do their insane stuff in areas that have gun control, that is why places with high gun control laws like Chicago and Washington DC have high murder rates, the murder wackos pick the areas of "least potential resistence". Armed Guard, although better, is NOT effective because the murder wacko KNOWS WHO has the guns, Instead to be MORE effective, we should allow for concelled weapons in our schools by staff and teachers so the murder wacko as no idea WHO nor how many people can defend themselves and others from murder wackos.

You rootin' tootin' look out I'm a shootin' types crack me up. I've got news for you, if you ever decided to organize and "bare arms" against the United States Government, you will be dead before you could get what measly little weapons you could muster out of your closet. The U.S. Army has tanks and bazookas and rocket launchers and air support or whatever they need to fight a full blown world class military and defeat it quick. Law enforcement alone could neutralize you gun clowns so fast you wouldn’t know what hit you. You people are some kind of stupid. As for Sanford, what’s so surprising about more disfuntionallity coming from South Carolina politics?

Will Sanford be expected to wear an ankle alarm so that Congress will know where he is at all times?

How profoundly sad. First, an elected Senator resigns before his term is over to take a pundit job. Then a disgraced former Governor asserts his fitness to represent a Congressional district inhabited, for the most part, by law-abiding citizens. South Carolinians, I count friends and relatives among you. You can do better. I know you can.
