Subscribe to RSSCapping off a week of meetings with stakeholders in the debate over gun control, Vice President Joe Biden called a session with the National Rifle Association 'productive' despite the group's public complaints yesterday.
"I thought we had a very straightforward, productive meeting," Biden said of yesterday's closed-door session with pro-gun groups.
The NRA charged in a statement yesterday that the Obama administration has "an agenda to attack the Second Amendment."
Vice President Joe Biden will present his task force's gun policy recommendations Thursday – among them, most likely, to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
But Biden said that the variety of gun owners' organizations that met at the White House yesterday did not all share the NRA's opinions on the causes of and potential solutions for mass gun violence.
“There was actually a difference among them as well,” he said. “There was not a uniform view.”
Biden invoked a common metaphor about firearms to describe the challenges facing foes of gun violence.
"We know there's no silver bullet" for stopping mass shootings, he said during a meeting with video game industry representatives.

The vice president has said he wants his task force to present recommendations to the president by next week.
"I'm shooting for Tuesday," he said. "I hope we get it done by then."

The NRA says that the solution to gun violence in schools is to put armed officers in every school. The Wall Street Journal estimated that would cost $6 billion per year. That figure is about equal to what Americans spend on guns every year. Recession, reshmesion, there is obviously plenty of money in the economy for guns. Tax guns at 100% and that will be used to fund the armed officers in the schools.
Obama has 8 armed guards protecting his children. Don't you think that all Americans should have the same protection?

What is a "Universal background check" does that include Mental health records?
The gun show loophole is just a Leftist talking point every licensed dealer at a gun show has to run background checks on all sales, only Private sales between citizens are not regulated.
So write a law that requires background checks for all firearms transfers.
Then do what the NYPD does and stop and frisk all the gang bangers and hoods to see if they are packing and lock them up if they are.

While background checks need to be mandatory for all purchasers we need a mechanism to address the problem of current gun owners or people residing with them who may have slipped into mental illness. There should be a way for family, law enforcement, neighbors, and other concerned citizens to request an evaluation. If the person is found to be mentally ill by a competent mental health professional, a legal hearing should commence to adjudicate the removal of the guns and that name be placed on the registry to prevent further purchases.

This whole debate is stupid. WE have law enforcement teams and police officers, IRS, FBI, home land security all armed with real assault rifles. Isnt our second amendment there to keep our Government from turning into a dictatorship like it already is turning into right now? If they get Americans 2nd Amendment rights diminished then they can just take the rest away real easy. They already can. They have American civilians out gunned as it is and cases built against all of them by spying on them. What is going on? How are they getting away with all of this? Violent crime and gun related deaths have been decreasing over the last decade while at the same time gun ownership has been on the rise most notably among women.
You can check that with the FBI if you do not believe it.
So if guns kill than should gun related deaths not have gone up along with increased ownership.

This has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. It is about finding compromises in order to enact reasonable, common sense gun control legislation that limits the amount of firepower that may be legally owned by the civilian population.
Most of the loudest gun nuts like to hide behind the 2nd Amendment, but they are nothing more than cowards who falsely assume it authorizes private citizens to own assault weapons and other high powered guns that only belong in the hands of law enforcement and the military.
The Newtown massacre of little children was the last straw. There WILL be gun control legislation passed into law, because the nation demands it.

State Suspends Permit Of Man In Gun Control Rage Video

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security has suspended the handgun carry permit of a local man who threatened to "start killing people" to protect his Second Amendment right.
In a statement released Friday officials said they had suspended the handgun carry permit of James Yeager, CEO of Tactical Response based on "material likelihood of risk of harm to the public".
On Thursday, a video of Yeager angrily claiming he would "start killing people" if President Barack Obama moved forward with gun control measures began to go viral on the internet.
That is a good start - one paranoid gun nut who is not allowed to own guns.
