"We now look forward to what we hope will be quick Congressional action on a full, clean Sandy aid bill — now, next week — and to enactment by the President. We have waited 72 days, seven times longer than victims of Hurricane Katrina waited. One thing I hope everyone now clearly understands — New Jersey, both Republicans and Democrats, will never stand silent when our citizens are being short changed."
-- Chris Christie Thursday in his State of the State address.
FLASHBACK: Jan. 2, Chris Christie news conference:
"Americans are tired of the palace intrigue and political partisanship of this Congress, which places one-upmanship ahead of the lives of the citizens who sent these people to Washington, D.C., in the first place. New Jerseyians and New Yorkers are tired of being treated like second class citizens. New York deserves better than the selfishness we saw displayed last night. New Jersey deserves better than the duplicity we saw displayed last night. America deserves better than just another example of the government that has forgotten who they are there to serve and why. Sixty-six days and counting, shame on you. Shame on Congress."

Christie says,
Well, a little revision needed - here you go:
Americans are tired of the RepubliCON palace intrigue and right-wing political partisanship of GOP in this Congress, which places one-upmanship ahead of the lives of the citizens who sent these
peopleRepubliCONs to Washington, D.C., in the first place....
Time to organize grassroots campaign to kick out these RepubliCONs. We already have their names. See below.
Here's the roll call with the ayes and nays:

Oh Piggy, it's time to go oink yourself.
Why don't you comment instead on the Progressive PORK added to the recent cliff deal?
Those Progressives presented NASCARurage the purchase of electric scooters, a cherry of a tax break, estimated to be $46M this year, thganks to it's creator, Rep Mike Thompson, D-St. Hlena; a $7M tax subsidy to encourage the purchase of electric scooters, Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore; and a $200M toast to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands for their Rum industry; and a whopping bonus to the husband of Nancy Pelosi for his business in American Samoa.
Now I was under the impression that the Barry was against PORK. Campaigned against it, didn't he? Why then is this PORK in the legislation and passed?
Those folks who experienced Sandy could have had those funds for their recovery, and more needed that what was sent to Hollywood and those other folks.
Pigotry - interesting development!
The Republican Main Street Partnership, a Washington-based group that has promoted moderate GOP lawmakers and policies, will remove the word "Republican" from its title and welcome center-right Democrats in 2013, Yahoo News has learned.
The organization's board of directors voted Tuesday morning to scrap party identification from its title and be known simply as "The Main Street Partnership." The group's new president, former Ohio Republican Rep. Steven LaTourette, told Yahoo News that he plans to begin conversations with Blue Dog Democrats and centrist groups in the coming months.
"The goal is to try and fill the void that is the middle," LaTourette, who resigned from Congress this year, said. "The American political system is like a doughnut: You've got sides, but you don't have anything in the middle, and it would be my goal to work with Republicans and Democrats who want to find the path forward to getting things done and compromise."
It will be interesting to see how this works out!
Back on topic - well said Governor Christie!
Donut !!! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Seeking, don't mention donuts to me, a pig, U R getting me hungie ?? But I am on a diet, right now, OK, I will just eat the imaginary center of the donut today.
.
Seeking, Thanks for the info. It's been political suicide by the GOP in forsaking the center in the last few years; but I am glad some common sense is coming back to some Republicans. I do like this two-party system. But don't count on it, there are some pigs inside the GOP who will never learn.
Pigotry - LOL! Should have KNOWN you'd go straight to the donut reference!
OH, donut holes are sooooo good! We usually get a box of 48 for the office! Oops! Not helping, am I????
Yes, Republicans are always for big government and social welfare when it benefits them directly. Otherwise they want to take money from the poor and give it to the rich, or the military industrial complex.
WOW I see the iGNORANT are out today, If the IGNORANT dems would get the PORK out of there bills maybe they would get passed. When you have that much PORK in the bills it is in no ones best intrest to pass them. Sure the folks in NJ need the help so quit ttrying to add stuff for your state also.

It would at least be nice if you actually looked at the markups to the Senate Bill and see that a vast majority of that 'pork' are from Republican Senators used to garner their vote and passage of the bill...but as usual, presenting a fact based argument is never quite as easy, nor fun as just typing to saying whatever you want.
On a tangible note with Christie, related to his comments about the Congress, absolutely. But related to the ADD of the Country and the media. I've still never understood how a President can be held more responsible than a Governor of a State when that State has a 9.8% unemployment rate and the highest rate of Residents leaving the State to live and work elsewhere and he's been there since 2010.
Amazing that I find myself in the unique position of agreeing with Governor Christy.
The Occupy Movement has launched to program to recruit more volunteers to help victims of hurriCane Sandy - it's called Occupy Sandy.
Please contact them if you are interested. Just google 'Occupy Sandy,' you will find them.
Hey, Adler-273784
Do you mean...hurriCane Christy??
Absolutely spot on by Gov Christi. Floods, fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts...Mother nature at it's finest hours. Whatcha' gonna do with the right-wing simpletons who voted NO..not to worry!
Bad boys, bad boys, whacha' gonna do when mother nature visits your state, your constituents.
Occupy Sandy? What are they going to do? Trash the place and crap on the sidewalk? Dont think anyone would notice their "help".
We need more volunteers
Agreed! It is critical for all citizens to keep our Government responsible to all people. Our Government must be made accountable to the citizens who voted them into power. The 112 Congress never understood these concepts of our American Democracy. The 113 Congress had better understand that the people voted them into power, and the people are still able to vote them out of power. It is just "Mentally Ill" that the Teabegger Congress. Ignored the loss and suffering of our fellow citizens from Super Storm Sandy. Get out the vote for 2014 America!
Progressive-forward,It is not the governments job to bail people out every time there is a natural disaster.Americans have become more demanding of,"I want my fair share",due to our tax dollars being used to bail out banks, automobile manufacturers and boatloads of foreign aid funded by our tax dollars. We all wonder why this government is broke.
People expect bailouts at this point. So they are no longer buying homeowners or flood insurance because the taxpayers will bail them out. Dependency on government is now looked at and expected as a right. Why should anyone pay for anything when the government buys it for you because they like spending money even if it is not theirs.
Progressive in #4 - read my 1.1 post. Our government really aided the special interest groups in the recent cliff legislation passed by those people who think of the taxpayer as their piggy bank.
Why the PORK in the bill Progressive?
1FG. blah, blah, blah. You do realize you stinking conservative fascist hold a majority in the H of R. don't you? That so called pork was passed there too. You might want to ask that very same question of yourself.
Here you go unfunnygirl... Billions with a "B" baby!!! Educate yourself. Your patriotic vote-sellers are hard at it...

chick - I see you're trying to converse with neverbeenfunnyb*tch - It's a losing proposition. Many of us have her on ignore because she just keeps repeating the same nonsense over and over again - no basis for anything and never any facts. Just a heads up! Hope your 2013 is going well!
ifunnygirl On the Daily Show last night Jon Stewart showed the bill it was two paragraphs. Tell me how much pork can be fit in 2 paragraphs? Your full of $hit & I believe the Daily Show before anything you call right wing news.
Smitty: The bill passed did indeed have two paragraphs!! That bill is for about 9 billion for FEMA. The original 65 Billion bill couldnt get through the HR because of all the pork. The only reason the Senate approved the 9 Billion is because if they stalled any longer, trying to get their 50 Billion for pork, the public MIGHT actually find out that they were the ones actually screwing the pooch all along.
The Dims are safe though. Christie pulled them through again. Christie might be the next Dim pres. nominee.
Pork anyone?
Didn't realize until recently that Republicans are cannibals!!
Never saw so many Republican pigs eating so much pork in my life!!
Why pork...do you have to kill a pig to get pork...
Nooooooooooooooooooooo...I mean....N-o-i-n-kkkkkkkkkkkkk
They'll eat anything.
Domestic disaster relief is a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY, and should be treated as such.
Interesting concept Danger !
dangerfield,
Interesting concept indeed. Care to elaborate?
One day possibly there will be a catastrophe hitting the H of R, say a tornado, and that will be considered a national security issue. Anything else is below that. Die people, die.
Governor Chris Christie
Governor Christie is right. DC could learn a lot. They spend so much more time and energy trying to tear each other down than they do working together to make America stronger. Yes there are differences between Democrats and Republicans but there is also some common ground. Both sides campained on jobs. So let's get it done. This divisive partisanship from both sides has to stop. The 2007 Great Recession was a disaster and this country needs recover. Only if you work together can you accomplish what needs to be done.
I agree Dangerfield.
Good disaster relief certainly would "ensure domestic tranquility and promote the general Welfare" wouldn't it?
Obama ---last week---gave Burma--Myanmar---$125,000,000.00--Myanmar did not have to wait for their money---also Obama set up a new office-USAID--United States Aid for International Development--the US tax payer will have to pony up the money
Alan Fischer - source please!
Alan Fischer posts that:
I'm with you SS.........
Alan........... I tried to find what you posted, couldn't........, can you provide a link?
Alan Fischer - OMG you are dense. USAID was set up by John F. Kennedy in 1961. Try to at least show a modicum of intelligence!
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the United States federal government agency primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid. President John F. Kennedy created USAID in 1961 by executive order to implement development assistance programs in the areas authorized by the Congress in the Foreign Assistance Act.[3] The Congress updates this authorization through annual funds appropriation acts, and other legislation. Although technically an independent federal agency, USAID operates subject to the foreign policy guidance of the President, Secretary of State, and the National Security Council.[4] USAID's Administrator works under the direct authority and foreign policy guidance of the Secretary of State. [4]
There you go, SS....causing trouble by citing facts.....shame, shame ;-)
chilled - sorry - a mind is a terrible thing to waste! And, clearly Alan is wasting whatever he has!
Exactly SS!
Alan seems to be a sterling example of the low-informed, pushing untruths (lies).
The New York Times - January 8, 2013
Alan seems to be right.
Really Alan? Thank God Myanmar wasn't full of Democrats or the Pubbies would have withheld the aid.
Hi there GOPisextinct......
As for Alan, SS took care of that.
Hi ya" Chilled!!
Hope this New Year finds you well.
Governor Christie, in his common sense approach which understands that there is a role for the Federal Government to play in the instance of a natural disaster, may be single-handedly showing the way for reasonable Americans to find common ground while exposing and destroying the wildly ideological and unrealistic arguments of the Tea Party.
One can only hope...
Too true Bali, We can only hope !
Thank goodness we had them there to get the EXCESS PORK out of the bill before passing it at taxpayer expense.
I take it you have no skin in the game as you do NOT care if they save the taxpayers some cash. I heard we are having a revenue problem in the US, yet these ignorant demorats want to keep putting there states ahead of the rest of the country. QUIT WITH THE EXCESS PORK on the bills.
Why would they add those EXTRA's and then blame it on those that want a clean bill to come through. I say BLAME those that put the PORK in the bill. IGNORANT DEMS.
Jon Stewart did an oustanding job of calling out the hypocrisy last night...
In May 2012, Representative Steven Palazzo, Republican from Mississippi spoke on the floor about expanding funding for the National Flood Insurance Program because "many of my constituents in Mississippi are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Katrina."
Last week, two months after Hurricane Sandy, he voted against funding for New York and New Jersey.
Da Noid ...
Jon Stewart's show last night was EXCELLENT! One that needs to be shared with many!
Happy New Year!
Palozzopalooza was fun to watch...
I respect them for voting NO. Get a clean bill, one NOT filled with EXCESS spending. CUT OUT THE PORK. When will those IGNORANT demorats figure it out. Try passing a bill to help there state along with helping those in need, HOW SHAMEFUL.
I am so glad that Gov. Christie has now seen the folly of following people who have no respect for America, Americans or anything other than playing politics and pandering to a base of avaricious money hounds & lobbying lunatics! I keep hearing how Republicans are not like the tea-partiers, yet they sat silent when WE were forced to endure Bigotry on a grand scale (not just during this last election either, yet for the last four years - no matter how or why it was couched in obstruction!) barely recognizable as HUMAN BEINGS, but now that the party of Greed has turned on its own perhaps WE will be able to disconnect them from the lips of our representatives all together!
I'm glad that Gov. Christie has stopped playing politics and started being the politician he rightly accuses them of not being or even knowing how to be. Just think WE may have all been saddled with a lying, pandering shell of a person - who is now off somewhere in oblivion where he belongs!!! That's scary, but scarier still is the fact that people who have (more times then they apparently deserve - most) taking/sworn a duty & pledge to the people whom they no longer recognize as such - ask former Senator's Dole, Veteran's & now the credit rating of the USA.
Gov. Christie, I don't care for republicans because they tend to forget their Christian duty & the fact that WE are responsible for each other disaster or no, but you are starting to impress me as a real leader & representative of the people - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS!!!
Governor Christie is like Republicans were, like Ronald Reagan was. They were much more progressive. Unfortunately with the tea-party take over these great men and women were labeled with the term RINO(Repulican in name only). Many progressive Republicans have quit the party
From Who Stole the American Dream by Hendrick Smith
The GOP are indeed the type we need to run our counrty -- into the grown that is -- what next maybe the debt ceiling and then what!
Nothing positive -- The GOP -- Not there for storm victims -- Not there of the debt issue due to their GOP failures -- Not there for -- for their country -- Their To Filibuster -- There To Stone Wall With The Worst House In Our History!
American Terrorist at best based on their way of treating their fellow Americans & Our Country!
Can't wait to see these folks at the GOP go south -- The money - power - greed folks!
Gov.Christie has stood silent when our government spending is out of control, our immigration laws are not enforced and predatory banks were selling sketchy mortgages.I guess he only makes speeches and grandstands when it is his beloved state in need and to heck with the rest of American citizens.
In other words, he's doing his job.
it amazes me to think that people buy in that one party is the bad guy so to speak and the other has your back.
Such as when people post comments that it's the Repubs. that are all at fault and the Demos. can do no harm an
and they care so much for the people. Lol. They're doing a great job of making you believe it. They are people and
ones who want power. Critical times hard to deal with, will be here.
It's not just the Domecrats, there are many Republicans that feel it's all the Dems fault and Reps can do no wrong. There have always been fringe elements on both sides that felt this way, this is their base. The difference is now the tea-party base has become the voice of the Republicans. The moderates in the Republican party are being labeled as RINOs and being thrown out of or office or leaving because they can't stand the stupidity anymore (see post 14.1). America used to work because both sides could come together somewhere in the middle, but now until the tea-party removed DC will always be in a state of gridlock until the next crisis comes along.
Bad thing mike, is that the demorats are quick to play the blame game. I did NOT hear Bush talking about how bad the demorats screwed up, with the housing and financial policies that put in place. Yet I hear alot that its Bush's fault, Sure it fell apart on his watch, even though he tried to get Barney Frank & Chris Dodd to rein in Fannie & Freddie, that was when Barney told everyone that there is NO need to worry Fannie & Freddie would NEVER need government assistance. Yet here we are over 180 BILLION of taxpayer dollars wasted on them.
Fannie & Freddie are there own worst enemies, They screwed themselves and there shareholders out of at least 60K for NOT working with me on my mortgage. I offered them 75K they turned it down so I took my house and moved. They sold the property for 18K with financing would of taken 10K cash. BRILLIANT JUST BRILLIANT. I now have 9.5 acres and only owe 62K Thanks Fannie & your stupid ass workers.
BLA BLA BLA like all those rich people living on the jersey shore should get any help.....only stupid lives next to the ocean where it's just a matter of time before mother nature comes along and blows you away. sea shore, nice place to visit....dumb place to live
They should have INSURANCE to cover there loss, that is what they have INSURANCE for right.
Sure the city or county may need some help to get the lights and gas back on, get the streets fixed. the people of NJ should have insurance like the rest of us in AMERICA.
Hell maybe OBLAMER will force everyone to purchase property insurance to protect your own property.
Hell some of those RICH people do NOT have insurance as they self insure ALL of there stuff.
Just wait until the next superstorm comes along, and it will be more devastating than Sandy.
