The White House is circulating talking points for top surrogates on how to defend the president's Defense nominee, Chuck Hagel, according to outside White House allies.
In addition to providing details of their arguments for the former Nebraska senator, it also reveals the areas of top concern to he White House as hurdles to Hagel's nomination, including Israel, gay rights, a Democrat nominating a Republican, and Republican opposition.
Here's how the talking points, in the form of a Q&A, read:
Tough Questions
Q/ Doesn't he have a record of opposing Israel?
Hagel has a strong record of support for Israel. He voted time and again to provide assistance to Israel, and to enhance its security. In his book, he wrote "at its core, there will always be a special and historic bond with Israel exemplified by our continued commitment to Israel's defense." He has said that Israel's identity as a Jewish state must be protected as a part of any peace deal. And as Secretary, he will continue to carry out President Obama's unprecedented security cooperation with Israel.Q/ Are you concerned about his LGBT record / comments about someone being an "openly, aggressively gay" ambassadorial nominee?
Hagel recently said, "My comments 14 years ago in 1998 were insensitive. They do not reflect my views or the totality of my public record, and I apologize to Ambassador Hormel and any LGBT Americans who may question my commitment to their civil rights. I am fully supportive of 'open service' and committed to LGBT military families." As Secretary, he will continue President Obama's historic support for gay and lesbian service-members, including implementation of the full repeal of DADT.Q/ Why are you nominating a Republican as Secretary of Defense for the second time? Why aren't you confident enough to nominate a Democrat?
The strength of President Obama's record on national security speaks for itself - decimating al Qaeda's leadership, ending the war in Iraq, winding down the war in Afghanistan, strengthening our standing in the world. Chuck Hagel has been fully in line with the President's views on national security, including ending the war in Afghanistan and only going to war when we absolutely must. And in the Senate, he was willing to go against his own party when he became a critic of the Iraq War.Q/ Are you concerned about statements from Republicans opposing him?
We urge the Senate to confirm Senator Hagel as soon as possible. While some Republicans disagreed with Senator Hagel's criticism of the Iraq War, it would be hard to imagine many Republicans voting against a decorated war hero and long-time expert on national security issues like Chuck Hagel.

Wow. That's right up there with the vague cheer leading rhetoric on the Obama/WH web pages about the fiscal cliff deal. Brush over the top of the talking points with no real detail on why the question was asked in the first place. Gotta laugh.
Expect some pignorant Republicans to Obstruct, Obstruct, Obstruct.
.
The Obama Administration is just doing their homework and preparing for a tough fight, so that the RepubliCONs will Fail, Fail, Fail.
From what I heard he is about as acceptable to Republicans as he is to the D-Bag left (except those sheeple who only parrot the words they see tattooed on the walls of Obama's anal cavity)
Unbelievable, simply cannot believe the WH has to give out talking points to get someone confirmed. I admit I am alittle rattled about his comments about Isreal and Iraq. Isreal is important to many Americans and is our long lasting and steadfast ally in the Mid East. I am an atheist but do believe in the safeguard of Isreal. I have heard that this nomination is the formal slap in the face by Obama just to show the republicans who is boss. Sure hope he gets his comeuppunce come debt ceiling time, close down government if needed just to show him he is not god.
NH-Shellback - your post shows why we consider most Republicans to be low class and crude. You prove it every time.
dari43 - are you serious? EVERY White House has given out talking points about candidates from as far back as anyone can remember. Get real! And, the only people who ever refer to President Obama as god are nutcases like you!
@ NH_Shellback
Sounds like you have plenty experience exploring President Obama's anal cavity. You call Dems D-bags while you sound like some sort of pervert who likes climbing into others backsides. Have a great day!
Holy crap Chuckie T!
Now they give you the questions and the answers!
You don't even need to interview anyone anymore. Just get the directive from the White House and spread the news.
Seems anyone you ask will answer as told to.
Kind of like Susan Rice.
Remind me again, how diid that work out?
OMG - did we not see THIS coming? Now John McCain has problems with Brennan's selection as CIA Director. Does McCain realize how totally foolish he looks with his hating of everything President Obama does? No one in recent history has been such a poor loser as John McCain.
Arizona - how do you keep electing this totally embarrassing idiot?
What, didn't they miss his "leading from behind in Libya"? I'm also interested in whether Senator Hagel supported the President's Afghanistan surge and why he believes it should be drawn down now as it's pretty obvious the Taliban are not decimated.
Can we also get an explanation as to what the President did to end the Iraq war? Did he actually make any policy changes from the previous administration? Seems to me he ended the Iraq war the same way Reagan ended the Cold War. Being in the right place at the right time.
Seeking
They do it just to keep him out of their state. Much like they do to Palozie to keep her out of her home state. Same game different state.
@Seeking Sanity#1.7: No surprise. John McCain has serious problems cleaning Himself. Wasn't for Lindsey Grahams personal attention, He would likely smell even more foul.
I'm Stunned that Americas Carnival Barkers(formerly known as the MSM)have'nt seen this DOD Hagel pick for What it Is! All the brilliant Politcal Pundants who write for 1st Read can't(or wont) let Real Americans in on "The Lil Secret" Republicans really don't want Hagel as the Nominee, & that is, Republicans want President Obama to Picka Democrat Senator, so the State they come from, will give them an outside Chance of Gaining a Senate Seat, that they Could Not possibly WiN, any other way.
Lets look at some names floated around for Cabinet Appointments, Susan Rice "Hell No", Chuck Hagel "Hell No", John Brennan "Hell No", Democrat Senator John Kerry "Hell Yeah", WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You Betcha!
Occupy SoggyBottom!
@Rick,Ky#1.11: Waaaa,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. I getsha! Hadn't thought about it, but you're likely right. Thanks, and regards.
dari43, why not? The GOP has given out its talking points to attack Chuck Hagel; in fact, we've been listening to them for several weeks now.
Rick, KY, you got that right. I'll add that the GOPers don't want a republican cutting defense spending because that simply would not look good for GOPers to actually cut defense spending....."you betcha".
Will someone answer me this? Are there no people with "D's" after their names that are qualified to be secdef? Doesn't this make 2 with "R?" (even if the "R" more properly means rino).
What are you Rep bastards going to do when Charlie Christ get a job with President Obama. Then when Governor Christy becomes a Dem. Talking about Eating your own. Keep up the great Jobs Republicans and tea banger. We will take the house back in 2014 and the Teapublicans will be out of power for 40 more years. It will take us 10 years to clean up after Little Bush and Cheney, and the Do nothing House. The President gets to pick who he wants on his Cabinet. Rep's have no say. They can try to block the President's pick. But Harry has already said he will change the rules of the senate so you only need 51 votes. Screw the Teapublicans. They have tried to destroy the country just because we have a Black man as President. NOT going to happen. Yoy dumbasses have destroyed yourselves.
These talking points from the White House sound more like the Study notes my kids' teachers hand over the day before the test / quiz / exam to my daughters.
Everyone (including the Prez) wants managed outcome. Can't blame them. Can we?
The President won the Election with 5 million votes, and a landslide in the Electoral College. The people he picks to work for him are his choice. The President needs to just hold firm, and tell his opponents to stand-down. The people have your back Mr President.
What's up there Pigster? On the crapper?- you missed the first post- you're fired!
The mere fact that Obama's Administration had to pre-empt with their canned "talking points" tells EVERYONE there's basis for discussion- if not CONCERN.
"Talking Points"....
Let's see..."Here's how you answer THAT question"...and that comes from our Government...
Something is really, REALLY wrong, when the President decides how questions are to be answered.
I mean, VERY WRONG.
You think you're going to get my guns Barry? Think again, pal...
It's "Leaders" like the one we currently have, that reminds those of us that hold the Second Amendment sacred "why" it exists to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government.
Sounds just like the talking points they sent out on Libya...and we see how wrong they were!
President appoints Hagel to be SecDef — here’s why it’s a terrible choice that will send wrong message to Iran.
http://flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com/2013/01/07/president-appoints-hagel-to-be-secdef-heres-why-its-a-terrible-choice-that-will-send-wrong-message-to-iran/
President Obama on Monday nominated former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel to be the next Secretary of Defense. It’s a terrible choice and will send the wrong message at precisely the wrong time to Iran, Hamas and Radical Islamic enemies of the U.S. and Israel in the Middle East.
Interestingly, the Washington Post editorial page has come out strongly against Hagel. So have significant number of liberal Democrats. At least ten Democrat Senators are considering voting against his nomination, largely due to his weak and ineffectual approach to dealing with the mullahs in Iran who are steadily pursuing nuclear weapons.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2012/12/19/senate-dems-in-a-pickle-if-hagel-nominated/
Senate Dems in a pickle if Hagel nominated
While lying low, Democratic senators should be increasingly nervous that they will be presented with a nominee who is not defensible and proves to be an embarrassment to the administration. One can imagine the administration will soon trot out an ally (Colin Powell call your office! Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) the president is on the line!) to try to insulate Hagel from criticism and give Democrats cover. But it’s easy for those who don’t cast votes to do a favor for the president while sticking it to conservative hawks they despise. On this issue, however, Republicans senators will have an easy no vote; it’s the Democrats who will be trapped.
Give them enough rope and eventually they hang themselves!!
Obama is looking for fights with Congress plain and simple. Hagel is certainly not the best pick for the job, but he is the one that represents Obama's true views about our nations foreign policy. Democrats that oppose his nomination will be reap the rewards of massive spending headed their way, as the current administration finances the government. Obama's real agenda is beginning to emerge. There will be massive tax fights ahead, no entitlement or spending reforms as leaving debt to future generations is of no longer of any concern. Democrats that have or hope for a future in Washington are the ones who need to worry about the direction Obama is taking.

HAGEL ON IRAN
Throughout his career, Chuck Hagel has sought to protect Iran from U.S. sanctions and diplomatic pressure.
In August 2006, Hagel was only of 12 senators who refused to sign a letter asking the EU to declare Hezbollah a terrorist organization.
In March 2009, in an interview on Al Jazeera, Hagel agreed that the U.S. is “the world’s bully.”
Excerpts from Hagel’s 2008 book, America: Our Next Chapter.
“Iran will not be deterred from developing nuclear arms only because the United States and the EU say they must—especially if they feel threatened and if the United States, Great Britain, France, and Israel, among others, all retain their nuclear weapons.”
HAGEL ON SYRIA
Throughout his career, Chuck Hagel has sought to soften U.S. pressure on Syria, one of the leading sponsors of terrorism in the world and Iran’s only Arab ally, in the belief that engagement and diplomatic niceties would convince Syria to change its ways.
In November 2003, Hagel failed to vote on the Syria Accountability Act. “Another indicator came on November 11, 2003, when the Senate, by a vote of 89 to 4, passed the Syria Accountability Act authorizing sanctions on Syria for its support of terrorism and its occupation of Lebanon. Mr. Hagel – along with Mr. Kerry – didn’t vote.”
In June 2008, Hagel sought to reduce the diplomatic and political isolation Syria earned through its sponsorship of terrorism and assassination, saying “We should take the initiative to re-engage Syria by returning the U.S. Ambassador to Damascus.”
In October 2009, Hagel claimed – as he has for years – that the Syrian regime wished to abandon Iran and terrorism and move toward the U.S. and Israel. “I believe there is a real possibility of a shift in Syria’s strategic thinking and policies. For its own self interests, not because they want to do a favor for the U.S. or Israel. If we can convince Damascus to pause and re-consider its positions and support regarding Iran, Hezballah, Hamas and radical Palestinian groups, we will have made progress for the entire Middle East, Israel, and the U.S. Syria wants to talk – at the highest levels – and everything is on the table.”
HAGEL ON TERRORISM
Chuck Hagel seeks to reduce the pressure on, and isolation of, terrorist groups and state sponsors of terrorism.
In October 2000, Hagel was one of only four Senators who refused to sign a letter expressing support for Israel during the Palestinian intifada.
In November 2001, Hagel was one of 11 Senators who refused to sign a letter requesting President Bush not meet with Yasser Arafat until Arafat’s Fatah terrorists ceased attacks on Israel.
In April 2002, Hagel largely absolved Palestinians of responsibility for their campaign of terrorism against Israel.
In June 2002, on CNN, Hagel refused to call Yasser Arafat a terrorist and said the revelations about his direct role in orchestrating terrorist attacks against Israel were causing the Bush administration “to make Arafat the issue,” to which Hagel objected, and insisted that Arafat had a constructive role to play in the peace process.
“SEN. CHUCK HAGEL (R), NEBRASKA: I think what has happened here — and I don’t know if this is an unintended consequence or not, but the fact is, the administration has now made Yasser Arafat the issue. Even though they say he shouldn’t be the issue or is not the issue, they have made him the issue. The issue should be not Yasser Arafat. Whether you think he’s a terrorist or not, that’s rhetorical sword play. He is part of this process.”
Yeah, GREAT choice Barry.......
You are seriously scary - If you lived around a terrible irresponsible neighbor like israel it would be a different story - get with NOW - the entire world is starting to understand the mistake the Brits made in the early 20th - NO American blood should be put at risk because of israel
What's wrong with this picture?
Iran Hopes Hagel Nomination Will Improve Relations Between US, Tehran
http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/01/08/iran-hopes-hagel-nomination-will-improve-relations-between-us-tehran/
Seriously, is Hagel the best person for the job? Out of all the people he could have chosen, why did Obama want Hagel? The only answer is that he believes Hagel will be loyal to him and his views. And given Hagel's own oft-revealed views, what does that say about Obama?
Hmmmmm. Continuing disenchantment for me, and a big mistake for Obama.
You all voted for more of the same and now we have 4 more years of it. BO is lining up his yes people.
Looks like the "lovefest for America giving Israel anything it wants" group is ramping up its word machine. There are times when America and Israel are going to choose what's in their own self interest. Israel certainly declares this as it's policy...why shouldn't America put it's own interests first. America and Israel are independent countries...I think :) BTW dari43, if you are going to be such a staunch supporter of Israel...you should at least learn the spelling is Israel not Isreal...BTW again...Hagel is a great American who understands even the best allies can disagree...and American soldiers shouldn't be dying because of lobbyists who support the interests of other countries over the interests of America.
Quovadis -- It's called bipartisanship, it's a good thing.
Hagel constantly defends Iran and Hezbollah and he has expressed opinions that are troubling for many. Frankly he is a very odd choice for Sec. Def.
Let's see:
Hagel hates Jews. So does the president of Iran.
Hagel hates gays. So does the president of Iran.
He opposes sanctions on Iran.
He opposed the surge in Iraq.
He opposed designating Hezbollah as a terror group.
But he supports direct talks with Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah!
Conclusion:
________________
Of course you would want Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense...
If you were the president of IRAN!!!
These are a few of the most asinine talking points I have heard. The White House should let Senator Hagel just answer what ever he is asked at his confirmation hearing. I am sure Senator Hagel is fully able to handle anything that comes up with out prodding from this White House. The more the White House campaigns for the confirmation the more political it will get.
sfcret - these are NOT responses for Sen. Hagel to parrot. The article said "talking points for top surrogates" when THEY are asked.
Yes, he should be able to answer his own questions very well.
sfcret
The more the White House campaigns for the confirmation the more political it will get.
====================
You as well as anyone knows any effort or non-effort by the WH is a lose/lose scenario. If they fight for the nominee, folks will make the claim you stated above. If they do nothing, the media and the same crowd will say the WH must have really wanted to someone else because they just left the guy out to dry.
You don't give 2 **** about something being "political" and for that matter, what on Earth happens in DC that isn't!?!?!!
Matthew - I understand that these asinine talking points ARE FOR SURROGATES, my point is the more political campaigning for this appointment the more it will be about politics and not about qualifications. Further, I don't believe the White House should be sending SURROGATES out to say anything. Let the hearings go forward and let the SENATE vote. I am sure Senator Hagel will be confirmed by the Senate.
After UN Ambassador Rice you should know it is a norm for the liberal/progressives to send a messenger with indirect ties to the subject at hand to spew the talking points.
If it was only about qualifications you might have a point, but the truth of the matter is that if it were just about qualifications Hagel wouldn't even need a confirmation hearing. We've had Sec of Defense without ANY military experience whatsoever. Hagel not only has military experience his Senate experience gives him valuable foreign policy experience as well as knowledge as to how the govt is "supposed" to work.
Yeesh! Mommy should have slapped some of you incessant girlish whiners more often! Waay more often.
Her's your man...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Rumsfeld
*White House Chief of Staff 1974-1975
*First to bring Dick Cheney into the White house. (to replace himself when Gerald Ford nominated him for Secretary of Defense...
*Back into private business upon Ford's loss
*First to legalize Aspartame (As CEO of G.D. Searle Pharmaceuticals)
*Brought back to the white house by (Gasp*) Dick Cheney 25 years later to serve as Secretary of Defense...
*Pivotal in the creation of the two-war fiasco in Iraq and Afghanistan.
*Coughed up as cannon fodder and forced to resign in the face of public opinion.
* The last real truth ever coughed up by Dick Cheney.
Now, there's a fine example of republicans defending their country! That's how the smart guys choose a Secretary of Defense... By calling back someone that did two years as White House Chief of Staff and passed the job on to you 25 years prior!
Yup... republicans know how to get this done. We should listen to them when it comes to qualifications.
sfcret, so is it assinine for GOPers to have issued anti-Hagel talking points? I mean, all those GOPers seem to parrot the same comments, their criticism identical in context. Odd, how all those GOPers from McCain to Corker to Collins gave the exact, nearly word for word, praise of Senator John Kerry suggesting they would support his nomination to be Secretary of State while being nearly word for word identical in their attacks on UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who wasn't even the nominee nor would she have been. Those nearly identical remarks came from somewhere.
Jody - did you hear Senator McConnell on MTP Sunday. Kept repeating the same old tired line to every question David Gregory asked. Clearly it was all that had been given him by the GOP in response to any question. After he'd parroted it about 8 times he just looked totally stupid! Okay, he looked stupid before but it was worse as he kept repeating himself!
If the President appointed Jesus Christ to the Cabinet the Republican leadership(?) would find a reason to oppose him.
How sad that an obviously qualified candidate has to go through this kind of scrutiny just because the Republicans are obstructionist. And how sad that they succeed----they are in session so rarely and their time gets taken up with this nonsense instead of the important work of the nation.
There we go with the nasty old republican spewage again. Earlier headline said "Hagel Pick Under Fire from Both Parties". But I guess by both they must have meant the republicans and ............ummmmmmm.......oh yeah. The OTHER republicans. LMAO
SteelerFan - Just what kind of "scrutiny" are you talking about? I don't believe he is under any more scrutiny than any other appointee from any President, regardless of party. Every appointee should be vetted and that is why we have hearings in the Senate for confirmation.
BTW, there are numerous Democrats that are also questioning the appointment of Hagel, but I guess that slipped past you in your haste to blame Republicans as obstructionist.
@Talk to the Hand
The republicans have reduced themselves to cannibalism and even Ronald Reagan wouldn't meet the retarded standards of the morons that have taken over the leadership of GOP. Get a clue instead of repeating the same ole RWNJ bs, or slither back over to bullsh*t mountain where blather instead of fact rules the day. By the way, I have something you can talk to and it isn't a hand.
What wasn't fact oh wise one? You going to pick and choose which stories on the MSM are favorable to your rhetoric or the fact that there is more than the republicans who are questioning?
Need a ride to Bullsh!t Mountain? I go right by there on my way to my place at Reality Valley.
You've never made it past bullsh*t mountain on your way to Reality Summit. If you had we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Ahhhh the intellect. If this is a conversation, and not petty name calling and rhetoric, I don't know what you are referring to.
IS Reality Valley Beck or Limbaugh's show?
SF, well said. It is ridiculous. There was a time when candidates were actually nominated and a hearing held before the opposition attacked or voiced their concerns. Since the Bush 43 era, it seems republicans pre-emptively attack everything including people who haven't been nominated yet.
jody -- actually i believe teddy kennedy started it all back in '87 with judge bork.
How sad that liberals are too stupid to see that many Democrats oppose this nomination as well. Clearly not the best choice for the job, but the one that has the views of foreign policy most in line with Obama. Republicans have an easy vote, it is the Democrats that are trapped between a rock and a hard place. But not to fret, as long as Obama is willing to finance the spending in Washington, Democrats in opposition can know that the candy jar is wide open and they can help themselves. Just like they did with the fiscal cliff and Sandy relief bills.
Obama could nominate Jesus Christ and the rethuglicans would have an issue with the nomination. The first step in resolving this issue comes in 2014 when we vote out the teatards setting the stage for the reemergence of a "viable" republican party.
Wouldn't happen. Then Obama would have to admit that he isn't God OR Jesus Christ.
Have you ever had a clue or have you been a moron your entire life?
ooooo ouch. Typical. Can't discuss or take a little humor against "your side" so we resort to the demeaning and name calling.
Yeah, that must be it. After all it couldn't have anything to do with the idiotic obstructionism practiced by your crowd since the day Obama won the election in 2009. It wouldn't have anything to do with the attitude by the retards on the right that would rather destroy this economy and country rather than honor the election results and try and move the country ahead, it wouldn't have anything to do with the inflexible attitudes that the GOP has displayed during the entire 1st term continuing to this day....couldn't be any of these things now could it? This crap may be humorous to you, and that would explain the ignorance , but it is very serious to the majority of the electorate.
Drano, give it a rest...your way over your head.
Maybe this crap is funny to you, and that would explain a lot. Quite a few of us though see our hard work (401k) and jobs swirling down the drain because of the idiotic policies of the last republican administration, 2 unfunded wars, 5 trillion is tax cuts that we clearly couldn't afford, total mismanagement of govt agencies (great job Brownie!.... now go get me a cheeseburger)....incompetence never seen at this level, and instead of working with the other side you've done nothing but obstruct. If you wanted to have a serious conversation 2003 may have been a better time to start. Instead your were pounding your chests watching shock and awe.
JFK2012
Go back to sleep before you hurt yourself shortbus.
drano - since JFK2012 doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're" he probably shouldn't be talking about anyone being in over their head!
JFKlastyear and whateverwiththehand... See post 2.6 and stop your catterwalling about appropriate picks for Secretary of Defense... And don't bother reporting to your bus stop with your lunch-bag because the bus is so short that the wheels touch each other and you'll get nowhere!
chick binder -that's being horribly nasty to those who actually ride the short buses but are still MUCH smarter than JFK2012!
So, let me get this straight...the beef the GOP has with Chuck Hagel is position on Israel?
I thought this was the United States of America, not the United States of Israel.
Talk about ignorance Da Noid. Secretary of Defense???
jfk......
once again you prove your ignorance.
"I thought this was the United States of America, not the United States of Israel."
That was exactly my thougth when I saw all this for the first time. And these Rebublicans holler about Obama 'being a ferigner' or some damned such nonsense, but they want to give credence to what BeeBee thinks our leadership team should look like. Who the hell care what Netanyahoo or John McYahoo think about it? Lindsey Yahoo? Any other Yahoos?
Who the hell CARES what them ignorant bastards think anymore?
Republicans are NOT quite the brain trust on how to run foreign affairs (or economics) that they imagine themselves to be.
Questions on matter of defense and affairs of state: (For the Secretary of Defense and of the Secretary of State)
Preparatory Statement:
It might surprise you gentlemen but these questions start in unusual place I have combined into single topic. These are Energy for one and Economics for another. Both together are related in many more ways that we are used to discussing, but really all those normal questions asked by others are unified by Energy and Economics.
Energy has been concern of mankind beginning with fire; we could fact start the history of modern humans dating from the time when man started using energy beyond his manual capacity to generate it. There is great deal of history, most of which we skip, but not all, between that date and now. Today we are at something of good place to think about energy becoming more and more of a limitation. We are in this current world at this very moment, so entwined in the use of energy, and have become so used to that we often act as if it were a given. It is human to accept important things that don't seem to change without noticing them; we scarcely give notice of the oxygen we breathe because it is so much a constant, and seems to demand little of our time. But is that constant sameness not worth our attention, being thankful to the green things of the world giving us constant supply. So it is with energy, we look out through glass windows, travel continents, and spend little effort in getting food to the table.
The reason we are is in recognition that Energy is unevenly scattered in concentrated locations across the globe, in other nations, with other intentions, and nowhere can any nation say that they are independent of other nation in the world. Very small regions are known to contain 3/5th of the world reserves. Those same small regions indeed import huge sums of the world's currencies. Those countries have joined vast global financial markets. Those financial markets are potential invested in every other country, sector and business in the global market.
Assumptions Defined:
I will make the assumption that the offices of Secretary of Defense and of the Secretary of State are sworn to uphold the laws of the United States, and as well are not beholding to any other person, wealthy client, group, fraternity, ideology, country, religion or secret society and mores so that you will not hire or cause to be hired any person who is not similarly sworn to allegiance to the US and will not or cause to provide such person who is not so sworn in to share, gather or exchange state and military secrets.
Questions: (Submitted in advance)
Given that the Defense of the US is of primacy and cannot be suborned to the purposes of another nation or ally how would you handle a request by Israeli, to ignore a provocation by Israel outside of treaty, that would result in the US enter militarily into the dispute?
Given that the State Department is the face of the United States and its people, and that relationships (domestically) have along and sorry history how would you handle a situation where private citizens of the United States seeking to interfere with good relationships, do cause, promise to cause demonstrate to cause harm and provoke to cause harm principle private distress due to race, ethnicity, color, economic status, religion, religious sect and all the world of cruel and vicious malingering act of personal destruction of those people in those countries?
Given that the Defense of the US depends on Energy and its availability, stability, and viability not only for sustainable military operations far afield, but also to keep the home land secure, in that Energy is so engrained, so deeply embedded, and that the disruption of domestic Energy is as serious an problem for defense internal and external, how will you give advice to the President, and appropriately loyal Senate and House committees in the legislative branch, on a National Sensible and Sustainable Energy policy?
Given that the State Department has so many connections to the world and that those connections need to monitored closely, what assurances can you give that third and fourth party citizen operatives, private security companies, and anyone involved in secret missions are not themselves being used as conduits to say give provocation by another country outside of treaty to endanger countries, that would result in the US enter militarily into the dispute? How will you be prepared to detail, interrupt, or reveal such actions misusing national technical resources?
If you felt quite shocked to see outside influence, to learn that our good friends the Israeli saw it in their interest to betray US interest, by playing the proxy switch to say force the US to invade more desert lands, to have Israel remain at high tensions in the energy supply center, to secretly foment deepening Islamic divisions, to say, amplify the general disuse and violence against women and to use these horrific means to gain support from the American Public for more foreign invasions?
Gentlemen if it is in your power to remain aware of the global Energy situation and the global Economic situation and its worldwide consequences; what will you do or try to in your offices to reduce the need for nefarious provocation in Congress and others from interfering in the affairs of other nations, nations not inclined to accept American interference, or for those nations so often affected by US interference?
To be clear how will the Secretary of Defense and of the Secretary of State, address the need Energy and Economic situations with national technical means and not through the limited Military always options so wide advocated and promulgated by many in Congress?
How will the US (Economy) be able to pay for all these Military expenses when the Energy and Economic situation are in a spiraling decline if not spiritual decline?
Will the US just attempt to collect from those countries enjoying American Protection, or shall we just hire out for the task?
Obama thinks the Chicago Way works in Washington and in the International Domain. Maybe the Hague should respond and ask Obama why he performs death causing medical experiments on humans, like Hitler. Will he commit suicide in the bunker below the White House or will the Hague have to hang him in France?
@rober34
and what death causing medical experiments are the Obama administration doing pray tell?
Perhaps the heavy federal regulation of a private industry as an experiment in cost-shifting the price of healthcare.
All he's doing is having Republican nut-job lesions excised off the body politic... It's a public service, not an international crime. Perhaps if you weren't cuckoo for cocoa-puffs you'd realize that.
rober..........
and if The President is doing the very thing you say he is.............please volunteer.
rober........
so do you think mr 'national guard no-show' bush and mr dickless' 5 deferment 'cheney were good upstanding leaders?
if so ....answer this question for me.....are mr' national guard no-show' bush and mr dickless '5 deferment' cheney allowed out of the country yet or will they still be arrested for war crimes?
depraw - oh! I know that one! I know that one! They will still be arrested for war crimes if they set foot outside the US!
depaw - Bet you think Mr "Draft Evader - Sexual Predator" Clinton and Mr "Dickless" 5 deferment Biden are outstanding leaders don't you?
Clinton actually WON his conflict, something a Republicon wouldn't understand.
see. 7.1
This just in: Obama picked his nose... Freakish factions within the GOP have decried the pick as inflammatory, unamerican, blatant favoritism, anti-semitic, pro-Islamic, Kenyan, amatuerish, proof that there is a gate somewhere near Benghazi, nepotism, class warfare, evidence of free cell-phones and non-white.
They're calling a special session to spend 14 seconds assigning a republican congressional panel to investigate their own allegations on this earth-shaking issue before they head off to some airport stall somewhere. Er, I mean fly home for some much needed rest.
"....according to outside White House allies."
Hey Chuck, YOU are an outside White House ally..no wonder you get all the propaganda first.
GOP Comback - you should have a better one. Chuck Todd is White House Correspondent for NBC so he is technically not "outside" the WH!
Who cares what these fools argue about. The simple fact that this debate is news exhibits the controlled media by the elite over the ignorant masses with what they choose to print. The USA Titanic is sinking fast while the "fiscal cliff" solution will steal more of your money with their "order out of chaos" and the media presents THIS? Do some research on who is doing what to this country and just how long it has been happening. And please TURN OFF THE TV.
looks like mayor koch has it nailed. i added the bold, this is some of the flexibility obama talked about:
“Frankly, I thought that there would come a time when he would renege on what he conveyed on his support of Israel,” said Koch, adding, “it comes a little earlier than I thought it would.”
“It’s very disappointing, I believe he will ultimately regret it,” Koch said, “and it undoubtedly will reduce support for him in the Jewish community, but I don’t think he (the President) worries about that now that the election is over.”
Oh, please, now old Koch is jumping on the GOP's wagon load of bull pucky. What a load of crap, for lack of a nicer word.
so obama is caught red-handed, though consistent is his trashing our strongest mideast allies, and you choose to throw one of his loyal supporters under the bus?
better be careful, you could be next.
koch is a idiot and a joke, lets pull up some of his statements no let's not bother!
republicant's would call Jesus himself too liberal and a socialist.
Sen Kerry swiftboated and called every name in the book except "American" but now the republicans LOVE him? Oh a senate seat will be vacant, gee is this a coincidence????
Now right back to obstructing and more obstructing, and threatening to shut the government down again, for totally partisan reasons, hey we had the election, your guy lost now get over it and start doing your jobs for all the American people not just the right wing nut jobs!
Eric Cantor is Jewish in name only. The principles of Judaism do not include the "virtue of selfishness." Giving to those less fortunate is an important part of being a good Jew. Mr. Cantor is really an Ayn Rand follower who herself did not believe in religion. So Eric's concern about Israel is more about obstructing anything he can when it comes to the President.
Obama Nomination : GOP/T Knee-Jerk Rejection :: Thompson Hammer : Patellar-Tendon Reflex
This is a sad and scary time in our history. The Republicans, with their fading base. losing record and increasingly shrill, obstructionist position are now taking a scorched earth policy to our government. They attack, they filibuster, they stall. They think only of pleasing the tin foil hat faction to get themselves elected, not what's good for all of us. They slander the President by painting him as a big spender, when it fact it was the they themselves who ran up the tab. Obama could nominate Moses and half of these clowns would go on Fox and make accusations about what happened with the baby in the reeds. They no longer govern, they throw tantrums. They kicked out their own moderates and we are left with the chaos. I just wish that the media (even the "liberal elite" media), would start calling out more history on these guys and showing some objective reporting as opposed to simply jumping from comment to comment. We need a Republican party that contributes, not this group of puking pants fillers.
If the South would have won the Civil War of 1961---1865---The United States would not have a mill-stone around its neck=====Obama---The open borders president
Aan Fischer - spoken like a true, ignorant racist! What's amusing is that he has had more illegals deported than any other President in our time but you just keep repeating your nonsense!
Lot of wierd comments today...here's mine.
The Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State are not there to create policy for the President. They are there to implement the presidents policy. They may advise him on matters, much as a lobbyist advises congress about bills, but their main job is to implement, not formulate policy. And, the cabinet appointees are his people. They think like he does, or they wouldn't be there.
The only real qualification for the job is that they must pass the Obama loyalty test. It would be best if his appointments would not hate America or its economic system, but that is Obama's choice. We voted for him, not his cabinet.
At a different time, he may have been a great President. But, in 2008 we needed Romney and the Republicans ran McCain and Obama won. Now I don't care who he appoints. He has put us on the path to ruin and we have crossed the tipping point.
Bill H - "At a different time, he may have been a great President. But, in 2008 we needed Romney and the Republicans ran McCain and Obama won. Now I don't care who he appoints. He has put us on the path to ruin and we have crossed the tipping point."
Romney isn't fit to be President and doesn't have the integrity to lead this country. It became sadly obvious as he committed one flub after another during the 2012 campaign. He would sell the country out to put a dollar in his own pocket!
It is not difficult for me to imagine a congressman, republican or democrat, voting against Chuck Hagel. It will not be Senator Hagel they are voting against it will be President Obama.
You're right, Richard..... and in the forefront will no doubt be McConnell.
I find it interesting that both Democrats and Republicans alike piss and moan and complain about Chuck Hagel without talking to him and without offering an "acceptable' alternative. Griping is easy, constructive criticism with alternative solutions is difficult.
Same old crap from the Republican party----- makes me glad that I am an ex-Republican.
Bobcb- Bet you really hate how they treated Huntsman. A good and decent man and diplomat. They really, really, really, are the lowest anymore.
And many many of them are not aware that Americans are increasingly turning against them while their base dies of old age. And it makes my day.
yeah like say..where were you the night of Benghazi were you giving Obama a huge that night
The Repubs only threaten to block Hagel because he is Obama's choice, it has nothing to do with his views on Isreal or Iran.
The repukes are sore losers,am they just can't accept mitt couldent buy the election
