Rand Paul’s apparently in Israel. The Jerusalem Post: “Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, a fierce opponent of US foreign aid who is being touted already as a likely 2016 presidential candidate, said in Jerusalem on Monday that the United States is and always will be a friend of Israel, but thinks ‘it will be harder and harder to be a friend if we are out of money.’” More: “He said that as far as aid to Israel is concerned, he is not suggesting disengagement or that the US should stop selling armaments, but said ‘it wouldn't be a one-way street, it would be a sale, not a grant.’”
Mugshot…. While Paul was away, though, his son was arrested. The Charlotte Observer: “The son of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, and the grandson of former presidential candidate Ron Paul, was arrested Saturday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Police said William Hilton Paul, 19, was traveling early Saturday from Lexington, Ky., to Charlotte. When the plane landed about 10:49 a.m., Paul was charged with consuming beer/wine underage, disorderly conduct and being intoxicated and disruptive.”
Cory Booker on CNN this morning: “I want to give him [Lautenberg] the space to make his own decision. I’ve announced my intention to run, but the reality is is we’ve got a good Senator. He’s been loyal. He’s been there for a long time. And I think he’s got a decision to make. So, I’m focusing on my job for now. And I hope to talk to him. We’ve reached out to him a number of times. In fact, I had a plane trip going down to meet with him, but unfortunately with a lot of the challenges going down in Washington, he had to cancel the meeting.”

Holy smokes! Rand Paul, a serious candidate for the Presidential nomination in 2016? Are we looking in the window of the latest model of the Republican clown car?
Sheldon Adelson must be back in Israel passing out big checks obtained from his mafia money.
(1/6/13) Sen. Rand Paul's son was arrested after a flight from Kentucky to North Carolina. The Charlotte Observer reports 19-year-old William Hilton Paul was arrested Saturday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and charged with alcohol-related offenses.
Cory Booker will make an excellent senator and should win easily. I'd rather see him as governor, but unfortunately Christie's got that locked up.
Ron and Rand must be so proud. Clearly little Billy Paul has been reading his Ayn Rand and applying her philosophy in his life. Another fine objectivist libertarian in the making. I can see the pep talk right now:
Rand: Tell, me, son. What happened?
Billy: I got drunk.
Rand: Good for you! Big government has no place telling you what you can or can't drink or how old you need to be.
Billy: I was disruptive and disorderly.
Rand: Good for you! You shouldn't care about how your actions impact others at all. Self interest is all that matters. If anybody else doesn't like it or gets hurt, that just proves that you are smarter and better than them and that they deserve it.
Billy Boy drunk at 10:49 in the morning......
Must be tough being the grandson/son of Libertarians......Freedom and Liberty, that's the ticket!
And Rand Paul starts crying this morning, leave my family alone. If McConnell wasn't bad enough then they elect Rand Paul. What is it with Kentuckians.
Yup, Sen Paul asks for respect.......*Priceless*
Was Billy Boy flying at tax payer expense?
I rarely agree with the Pauls on much of anything but we do coddle Israel too much. She's a tough little country and quite capapble of defending herself. Israel is militarily the strongest power in the region. While we must be allied with Israel and SELL her arms we should never give her anything nor let the war mongers (looking at you Netanyahu) get away with making war, genoside or infringing on the rights of the Palestinians either. Part of the reason we have enemies in the Middle East is because of our policies toward Israel and in opposition to the Arabs and particularly the Palestinians.
Never too early for the Democrat partisan hacks to start smearing a potential Republican presidential candidate.
Well, you are probably right, we could just wait and all the R's will just smear themselves. Not real bright those republicans. They actually believe they are going to grow more old white men by 2014.
Israel's economy is and has been "booming", no doubt thanks, in large part, to the endless funding it receives from us. We can no longer afford to support any country to the same extent that we support Israel. It's time for Israel's economy to now stand on its own. Like us, it will have to choose between "guns, and butter". While I don't usually agree with positions taken by Rand Paul, I do agree with this one. Maybe, just maybe, if we demonstrate to it that we can no longer afford the billions and billions (military aid grants are only part of it) that we provide it, the Israeli government may finally face the reality that it must make peace with the Palestinians, and its neighbors, in order to survive and sustain itself economically --- which would likely lead to greater peace and security for it, not less. We can always hope!
