Obama agenda: First since Ike to win 51% back to back

“Barack Obama is the first president in more than five decades to win at least 51 percent of the national popular vote twice, according to a revised vote count in New York eight weeks after the Nov. 6 election,” Bloomberg writes, adding, “The president nationally won 65.9 million votes -- or 51.1 percent -- against Republican challenger Mitt Romney, who took 60.9 million votes and 47.2 percent of the total cast, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Obama is the first president to achieve the 51 percent mark in two elections since Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower, who did it in 1952 and 1956, and the first Democrat to do so since Franklin D. Roosevelt, who won four consecutive White House races. Roosevelt received 53.4 percent of the vote -- his lowest -- in his last race in 1944.”

Bloomberg: “Fresh from a budget fight so raw that the Republican speaker of the U.S. House cursed the Democratic leader of the Senate outside the Oval Office, President Barack Obama and Congress are heading for an even bigger confrontation over raising the nation’s debt limit. U.S. Treasury bond investors -- who most directly bear the risk of a government default -- aren’t alarmed. In a sign of the disconnect between Washington and Wall Street, investors remain confident the two sides will compromise rather than inflict what Obama called ‘catastrophic’ consequences. Yields on long-term U.S. debt are near record lows.”

“The federal government conditionally approved eight additional states to run health exchanges Thursday, bringing the total to 20 states that will have the programs that were authorized by the 2010 federal health care law,” USA Today writes, adding, “Although states with Republican governors have fought the law, such as Texas, four of them -- Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah -- have created the exchanges.”

More: “To show their disapproval of the health care law, the majority of Republican-run states have not created exchanges. Some conservative groups, such as the American Legislative Exchange Council, say the exchanges forces the states to give up insurance regulation and advise states to rebel against the law by refusing to take federal money to create the exchanges. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said residents of all 50 states would have access to a new marketplace in 10 months. Those who live in areas without a state-run exchange will be able to use the federal exchange.”

Astounding Orwellian logic from ALEC, advising state's to protect their rights and powers by giving the power to set up health insurance exchanges for their state to the federal government. And folks wonder why the conservative movement is in trouble.

One of the most popular presidents ever, Obama has shown the strength, and intelligence of a born leader and is serving the public well. Certainly a lot better then his predecessor who took us from prosperous into the dump, further proving that supply side economics is a failure. It has failed every single time the republicans have tried it and yet the party of Grover Norquist and Rush Limbaugh would return us to tax breaks for the rich paid for on the backs of middle class people. This also proves that Congress is the problem and specifically the tea bags in congress. Vote them out in 2014 and we will have a better country.

Obama is such a genius. He signs a bill which raises 62 billion in new revenue, then sends 68 billion out the back door in payoffs. He's doing so much for the country. What a pile of horse @!$%#. You liberals are such cute little ass kissing monkeys. No wonder the country is so effed up. Keep up the good work, Obama. If Congress are as bad as you say, why did you give them raises? Just to spend more money? Please stay on vacation in Hawaii. Having a bad leader in Hawaii beats having your narcissistic ass in DC.

Kenva, stop repeating right wing lies. Congressional pay rates (actually the pay rates for all federal employees) are adjusted annually based on the inflation rates. Every president annually publishes in the federal register as an executive order what the adjusted pay rates are. That is not the president giving Congress a pay rate.

    Right wingers this means "Mandate".

Simple math for you haters, 65.9 million Popular votes to romney 60.9 = 5 million MORE votes.

And of course that EV Blowout, 332 to 206. If this is not a blowout in the electorate then you just prove to be another pissed off loser who just can't accept the FACTS. Which at this point does not even matter..

Barack Obama is the only President in my lifetime I've been able to support unconditionally. I intend to enjoy the next four years, as I doubt there will ever be a President I like better than Obama.

Especailly compared with Congress, Obama looks like the only adult in Washington. Compared to my Tea Party Governor, Obama looks like George Washington. Compared to today's media, the Obama administration is NASA to their rinky dink radio weather reporters.

I like Michelle Obama too. She has opened my eyes in so many ways. I never knew I harbored racist feelings, until she overcame my hidden opinions about African American women. I once saw her as a woman from a different tribe, now I see her as just another human being. The funny thing is, it feels as good to remove those barriers from one's heart, as it does to be treated respectfully.

We all know the TeaPeople math wizards will dispute this. Afterall, they have their own numbers...the same numbers that says they won Ohio and therefore the election.

    Enter Rovian math. Good Grief!

Amy your avatar reminds me of a silly story. A guy is walking past an insane asylum which is surrounded by a big wooden fence, and hears this loud chanting from behind the fence, thirteen, thirteen! thirteen!, the people behind the fence are chanting in unison and it just gets louder and louder, thirteen!, thirteen!. The guy is really curious about this and he notices a knot hole in the fence so be bends down and peaks through, and as soon as he does someone pokes him in the eye, as he is walking away holding his hand over his poked eye he hears the people behind the fence chanting loudly fourteen!, fourteen!, fourteen!

Charles, please provide imperical evidence to your claim that President Obama is a Muslim and that we will be enjoying sharia law. Perhaps it is more the rantings of a rwnj Fascist wannabe or radio blabber mouth rather than one with actual proof of such a statement.

Kenva, lighten up. I think Forrest's joke is funny. We need a little levity now and then. Sour puss!

We will be seeing more and more 51% or better margins by Democratic presidents over the next several years due to the GOP dying off.
