Decision 2014: Unable to govern

The message: “Democrats, facing a challenging fight to retake the House of Representatives in 2014, see a promising new line of attack rising out of the fiscal cliff follies: casting the Republican congressional majority as a terminally dysfunctional body that cannot perform the basic functions of government, let alone lead the country through difficult times,” Politico’s Burns writes. “It’s a meaningful shift from the Democrats’ message in 2012, when President Barack Obama’s party gained a modest eight seats in the House attacking Republicans as ultraconservative allies of the super-rich.”

One of the big talking points for a Republican majority in the House in 2010 was that "Fiscal Conservatives" needed to once again take control of the purse strings in Washington. What did those "Fiscal Conservatives" do with that control? They gave it over to the Senate.

Yes, tasked with helping forge a deal, John Boehner, Eric Cantor and company threw up their hands and let the Senate do the work with Vice President Biden.

Leadership it was not.

Bingo, "leadership it is not." This congress has to many right wing extremist in it. It is forging a unsustainable policy of austerity which by the way means a receding economy and not one that will grow its way out of debt. In bad times it is up to the rest of the American people and especially the very rich to step up and contribute their fair share. This country due to tax cuts geared at the very rich has a definite lack of revenue and the spending problem isn't a problem if it were to be paid for by taxing those that can afford it more. If cuts are to be made they must come from ALL segments with the military spending definitely on the table, and perhaps leading the way. Do not destroy S.S. and Medicare. Throwing the baby out with the bath water has never produced one good thing.

It was obvious from the start of the 112th congress back in January of 2011, when Boehner announced the house would just work two weeks and take a week off, that John Boehner and the republican house members didn't want to show up for work, they wanted to draw their pay and benefits and go home. This is not only the do nothing republican congress, it's the laziest republican House of Representatives ever.

Mo, I'm not so sure about saying they are lazy. The mainstream Republicans are frustrated that their leadership is unable to corral the right wing extremist Tea Party people who have their narrow agenda and won't move on anything else. Boehner is a weak leader, for sure and his weakness is compounded by the Tea people. Voters can fix this in 2014, meanwhile we still have much of the same.

Perhaps the 113th Congress will be more productive than the 112th but it wold suprise me if it is much more productive. They still will have Tea flowing in the isles.

"Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream". Find it on-line, watch and learn what and who our leaders care about. Politics in America has nothing to do with our society or individual needs. It is all about who has the most ($) at the end of the game. Our government will send trillions of dollars out of the country "to help" (read: influence) our fellow citizens of planet Earth, but argue over helping our families and neighbors in times of desperate need. Every time mother nature guts this country, it is a war over who gets what ($) and how best to take advantage, financially, of the pain and suffering of our fellow citizens. All we can depend on are each other and prepare for the time when we are sacrificed for the "good" of our political system.

republicans unable to govern that's a joke right? the deficit party gave us a $875 billion stimulas that either didn't really work since much of it was pork. remember the deficit president's lame comments, "well i guess shovel ready wasn't so shovel ready". then they gave us the unaffordable care act that will be implemented not in '12, '13 or '14 but sometime as soon as they figuare it out. if you call no plan to deal with the $1 trillion plus annual deficits and now $16 trillion plus in debt headed for more than $20 trillion by 2016 and no plan to save medicare and ssn governing then let tell you about some shovel ready infrastructure projects that we should have funded with the stimulas but we were too busy governing. this crowd is a joke, the only problem is the joke is on the country.
