Hours after Congress passed a deal to avert the fiscal cliff, the White House is continued its “outside game” of encouraging public support of President Obama’s policies – in this case, highlighting what the White House considers a victory in the fight over raising tax rates on the wealthiest Americans.
Campaign manager Jim Messina sent a mass email via BarackObama.com, the former campaign website, linking to the video in which President Obama touts the deal and urges supporters to stay involved during his second term.
“Just like four years ago, winning an election won’t bring about the change we seek on its own. It only gives us the chance to make that change,” he says in the three-minute video.
And subscribers to WhiteHouse.gov, the official website, got an email from senior adviser David Plouffe explaining “7 things you need to know about the tax deal.”
One big thing highlighted in that second email: that Obama kept his promises; the first two facts, about tax rates, start off that way.
“As the President promised, income taxes for middle-class families will stay low permanently,” says Fact #1.
Since the election, White House has put an emphasis on outreach over its key legislative priorities, after criticism during Obama’s first term that he didn’t do enough to keep the public informed.
The fiscal cliff outside game has included a social media offensive as well as events in Pennsylvania and Michigan that mimicked the president’s re-election rallies.

Who are the 47% who pay no income tax?
60% are working but are making less than $20,000 a year.
However, they still pay payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare, unemployment) and spend an average of 12.3 percent of their incomes on state and local taxes.
22% are elderly who are retired
It's amazing to me how anyone would even consider voting Barack Obama into anything considering this "man" who is supposed to be the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, stood by and did absolutely nothing to help those under his command while they were being slaughtered in Benghazi. I guess the "new norm" now days is if you happen to be one of the so called "Democrat elite" it is perfectly acceptable to be an accomplice to murder and get away with it. He allowed them to be slaughtered just as much as if he and Clinton, Panetta and the rest of the scum running our country pulled the trigger. Any regular person would have been rotting in jail by now. Joe Biden said the Republican's wanted to "put you all back in chains". Well this is one time I would like to see Obama and the rest of his ilk, hauled off to jail in chains.
"Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream". Find it on-line, watch and learn what and who our leaders care about. Politics in America has nothing to do with our society or individual needs. It is all about who has the most ($) at the end of the game. Our government will send trillions of dollars out of the country "to help" (read: influence) our fellow citizens of planet Earth, but argue over helping our families and neighbors in times of desperate need. Every time mother nature guts this country, it is a war over who gets what ($) and how best to take advantage, financially, of the pain and suffering of our fellow citizens. All we can depend on are each other and prepare for the time when we are sacrificed for the "good" of our political system.
Here's the real deal. The president got his way in the first half of the "fix the budget" negotiations. He got most of the tax increases he sought and he got spending cuts removed from the package. Now it's time for the second half of the negotiations to begin. That's when the rubber will meet the road...when the serious talks about cuts to governmental spending begin. The focus will now be all on Obama and the democrats (even though many in the news media will try to blame the GOP). The position Obama takes on spending cuts will be the true gauge as to how serious he is about balanceing the budget. We're not expecting the budget to be balanced in the first year of his new term. But we are expecting major strides in that direction. He was elected on the platform that he wants to balance the budget. In 2 months, we will see how solid that platform was, or if it was just some more smoke and mirrors coming from his golden mouth.
John Blamer has stated that he won't negotiate one-on -one with the President anymore.
He and his party refuse to even negotiate, much less compromise.
Never again can the "mainstream" media report that "both sides" are at fault for gridlock in Washington.
Don't you have any reading comprehension skills at all?
What part of "one-on-one" didn't you understand?
Harbinger...The Left Leaning Media has always reported it was the GOP'S FAULT ....I never once heard it was both sides...maybe here and there ..but mostly the fault always was put on the GOP. IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT ...How come they are not getting all the credit for the solution? This President has never compromised....He repaid his voting bloc for his successful job at waging Class warfare. Now What....He had everybody believing this was the problem..... The Rich got off easy...they are killing the Economy... It should be fixed now ...right? I am sure this President will now point his finger somewhere else...He is never to blame ...and you people allow this.
WAKE UP America! Our leftist President just "won" the fiscal cliff battle. He did a great job of demeaning the 'rich' and got them to pay 68 billion more in taxes. But wait....the legislation calls for 668 billion in new spending! And, taxes go up for 75% of all Americans to boot! Looks like he put it to the middle class to me. Further the 668 billon in increased spending is not exactly a 'balanced' approach. So...what has Obama "won"? He has screwed the middle class and all Americans with increased spending that we cannot afford. Add to that the ONE TRILLION in taxes to pay for Obamacare...also that we cannot afford. Guess what lefties, YOU will see much higher taxes and still will not reduce the deficit.
People, SPENDING is the problem. The credit agencies are warning us to reduce the deficit or incur another downgrade to our credit rating. This will RAISE debt even higher as the cost to borrow will go up. Don't you lefties have any common sense at all? You should be highly pissed off at the "bargin" that your esteemed leader has just imposed upon you and all the rest of us. And, he continues to spout off about 'investing' in more green energy projects and other areas where government should not be involved in. Whno's going to pay for this? NOBODY will pay if we crash our economy, which is surely happening before our eyes.
Sombody blogged that the US National Park service has signs warning not to feed the animals in the parks "because they will become dependant" on the feedings. Same goes for humans on food stamps, phoney disability payments from social security, housing subsidies, 'welfare' gifts to illegal aliens, free phones to the poor and all of the other BS that the bleeding hearts have made possible. It's time to hand out fishing poles not fish. Our country is in a very desparate financial bind. It's time to return to the work ethic that built this country.
Yup, pass the lubricant, you are about to feel penitration.
So a bunch of Democrats and President Obama, who talk about how bad the Bush tax cuts were, just voted 98% of these cuts back into the tax code. How ironic!!!
“7 things you need to know about the tax deal.”
1. The President promised, income tax rates for the middle-class families will stay low permanently. That’s good news for 98 percent of Americans and 97 percent of small businesses.
2. As the President promised, for the first time in 20 years, a bipartisan agreement will increase tax rates on the wealthy. That rate increase will be immediate and permanent. Individuals making more than $250,000 will be asked to pay a little more to help reduce the deficit through a combination of increased tax rates and reduced tax benefits.
3. This agreement cuts the deficit. It builds on the $1 trillion in spending cuts the President signed into law
in 2011 through the Budget Control Act. This new agreement cuts the deficit by $757 billion by asking the
wealthiest to begin to pay their fair share. Moving forward, the President is committed to reducing the deficit even more, splitting savings in a balanced way between spending cuts and even more revenue from the wealthiest.
4. As part of this deal, a group of tax cuts that help the middle-class families keep more money in their pockets and afford to pay for higher educated was also extended. The Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and the new American Opportunity Tax Credit will stay in effect for at least the next five years.
5. We’ll continue making investments that create jobs in domestic clean energy and innovation because the agreement extends the Production Tax Credit and the Research & Experimentation Tax Credit.
6. Lawmakers agreed to extend emergency unemployment insurance for 2 million people looking for work.
7. The agreement doesn’t cut Social Security benefits, Medicare, or Medicaid. That’s because the President stood strong against reducing our deficit on the back of seniors, students, the poor, and working families.
----
The current increase will be immediate and permanent until the wealthy are asked for more revenue?
President Obama proposed cuts to Social Security benefits. Was this written before the deal or is this just propaganda?

m.j...where does the deficit get cut? Please show me...because the tax hike does not even dent the deficit ....In Fact because there was no spending reductions, because the President failed to compromise) Standard Poors is already talking about reducing our credit once again....And you think that is good? Really?? No it is selfish! To you it is ok to raise the taxes and your burden onto somebody else with less votes......Raising Taxes does not even begin to touch the deficit...The only thing it accomplished was to punish the Job Creators and the successful....
mike
I'm on your side. I had copied the "7 things to know..." and then commented on some of the text.
The deal gets worse as the word gets out. Although the tax hikes were at the $400/450K mark for income; some limits on deductions will affect those making $250+ by raising their tax obligation. And of course almost everyone's paycheck got smaller today due to the expiration of the Payroll Tax Holiday.
Coming soon, more tax increases.
Sorry Mj.. I was reading your quotes for your response as they were your words.....Got it .
Ok, listen up all you newsvine addicts. Lets see if we can do a better job than the "good for nothing" Congress. Lets make a list of how to get things done right in Washington. Just for the sake of starting somewhere, I will start a list,
1. You can vote for each item, for or against.
2. You debate changes to an item or you can add to the list.
2. As the votes come in the items will move up or down the list, accordingly.
3. Please only vote once per item, since this list could go on for weeks or months.
Here goes, get serious.
1) Balance Budget Amendment ... (asap, without any powers separation clauses)
2) Line Item Veto ... (but maintains the separation of powers under the constitution)
3) 40-45% Tax Rate ... (across the board, until the federal spending / federal income ratio drops to a sustainable level 75-80%?)
4) Federal healthcare insurance should only cover compulsory drugs and surgical procedures (per FDA, with AMA lobby permitted)
5) All entitlement benefits should be taxed at the 40-45% levels ... (with waivers for people below the poverty line, (raise the minimum wage as required) as defined by the House of Representatives, only, no Senate vote)
6) Decentralize the federal government as much as possible ... (allow state referendums to be binding in the transfer of programs to the state level)
7) Lower the lobby activities in Congress ... (with a set of clearly defined rules that can be policed with harsh punitive actions)
8) Public education on good standing citizenship ... (screwing your government = screwing yourself).
9*) I am not an expert on the Constitution but everyone will agree that the US government is far too big so I propose as part of a concerted effort to reduce both government employees and governments influence on our lives, the Senate should be abolished.
Congress is unfazed by low approval - NO kidding! Their arrogance is just staggering. Who keeps voting these a$$clowns back into office?!
