Updated 11:15 p.m. ET: House Speaker John Boehner is giving some ground on Sandy funding and timing a vote.
The House will now hold a vote Friday on $9 billion in Sandy recovery funds, followed by another vote on $51 billion on Jan. 15th.
Congress did not hold a vote last night, enraging Tri-state-area members of Congress from both parties.
After a blitzing round of cable interviews, in which Republican Rep. Peter King (NY) blasted Boehner for not voting on the funding last night, he and other New York- and New Jersey-area members say their concerns have been addressed.
"Turning your back on people who are starving and freezing is not a Republican value," King had said this morning on CNN.
This afternoon, after a meeting with Boehner, King's tone changed.
"Whatever's done is done, and that's it," King said at an afternoon press conference on Capitol Hill, adding later, "The bottom line is we need the $60 billion." King later said he was satisfied with the response from House GOP leaders.
Boehner and Reps. Michael Grimm (NJ) and Chris Smith (NJ) also now say they will all support Boehner when he comes up for reelection for speaker tomorrow.
The move also came after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slammed Boehner and House Republicans earlier in the day.
"Shame on you. Shame on Congress," Christie said in a televised news conference from Trenton, N.J. He called Congress' delay "disgraceful."
"It is why the American people hate Congress," Christie said, adding, "Unlike people in Congress, we have actual responsibilities."

Christie will have to kiss the tea partys butts like Romney did if he wants to get nominated
Christie already lost tea-party. He is just what the Republicans need for a future, the Republicans if they hope to survive have to move more towards the center and leave the tea-party aside.
did they take out the pork $147 billion in privet fund went to these states 40 billion of this bill is pork that leaves 20 billion for sandy God we are idiots in this nation.
For those of you that don't know about the pork in the Sandy bill, you can find it at most web sites that cater to the right wing crazies.
Rep. Pete King (R)
The pork is for GOP votes
Amazing how the tea holes and republican'ts don't look at this as a "handout". They are continuing to show us why they won't be re-elected when the time comes. Note to ALL tea holes and republican'ts: Your ideas are old and out of touch with the real world. Perhaps you should admit that and move on with the rest of us.
what a circus, although it was nice to see a couple see a couple republicans grow some balls and bash boehner. Too bad they shriveled up and fell off when boehner said oh, we'll do that thursday or friday. What a tard. And the rest of the republicans are just as stupid for putting up with boehner and his back peddling lies. Just think people while the republicans destroy their party, in a few years we'll hear them whine and cry because they won't have any republicans in the house because nobody will want to vote for do-nothing, back peddling, lying drama queens!!! lol
The $9 billion is to cover the short fall in the Federal flood insurance program. This is another example of the government interferring with the free enterprise system. If people had to pay the true cost of flood insurance, half of these homeowneres couldn't afford to build in flood zones. Why should I have to subsidize someonelses insurance? Same with milk prices. Farm bill keeps milk costs artificually low. When you buy a gallon af milk, you are only paying half the cost. Tax payers pay theother half. Also, We just raised taxes by $60 billion a year on the rich so guess what, msot of the rich live in NT and NJ. They now want their $60 billion back. Who do thoy think is goign to actuyally see this money? Construction companies, insurance compaines, bankers, etc.
Once Billy Ma reads the constutution the part about we the people not me the people those taxes you talk about comes from all taxes from all people which N.Y.and N.J. pay in more than they get back. Since the GOP lost the election maybe the middle ground is what we need. If we invested in infrastucture the disaster might not have been so bad since we already paid for red state flooding and tornado's wrath but N.Y N.J. ITS YOUR PROBLEM. BAD MOVE!
Christie is lining himself up to run for President as a Democrat. With Hillary out due to health issues, the Democratic field is wide open and Christie knows he can't win the Republican nomination. He's setting up sound bits for his eventual switch to the Democratic party.
You think he is that smart?
the gop lost the election and some seats they could and have should have won. the cliff bill shows the real loser of the election was the american people. the deficit party has no plan to pay for the bigger gov they sold to those that don't seem to think for themselves. well actually they do have a plan and it's $1 trillion dollar+ annual buget deficits. they say no changes to ssn and medicare, really just let them go bust, really? when your plan for governing is make no choices especially no hard choices and just keep borrowing you have to say wake up america the deficit party has sold you a lemon.
I think the social Security system is ripping me off, they force me to pay into a system, that I may never get to see the money I put in, why don't they just call it our government loan system. I guess the ony thing we could do is move to an island, put up a satilite for internet access and TV and retire to live off the land, NO government, no taxes.
If the Democrats and Republicans keep selling the country short why do we keep voting for Democrats and Republicans? That's why I voted for independents, Democrat and Republican two sides of the same hand sold out. People say I wasted my vote but at least I voted my heart and didn't put either sell out in office. We have the internet the third party can take it's cause to the internet, if Americans have become too stupid or corrupt to give us anything better then what we have then I guess we deserve what we have. I am retired and living quite comfortably, I don't have a problem with paying more taxes. I just hate seeing people today not having the same opportunities that I had. I was working and made my money and investments when America was the land of opportunity.
Our political system is pretty much only concerned with their paychecks, vacations, trying to get elected again and stabbing the other party in the back and collect their unearned overrated retirement check. I say boot them all our of office and get some fresh bodies in there, it was never supposed to be a career they're supposed to be public servants.
Starting with comrade obama????
Because government cares more about special interests then the country, problems will keep getting worse. It all boils down to that we the people keep putting the same sellouts back in office so we the people are our own worst enemy. I believe in workfare over welfare but as long as the USA keeps rewarding people for going to foreign countries for slave labor and the freedom to pollute their heart out people will keep losing their jobs and then there will be no one left to buy the goods, services or pay taxes. Greed is like cancer eventually it kills the whole organism. That's why I voted for independents, Democrat and Republican two sides of the same hand sold out. People say I wasted my vote but at least I voted my heart and didn't put either sell out in office. Stocks will be a poor choice as long as CEO's are allowed to take massive stock options, salaries and golden parachutes all while they run the company into the ground leaving the workers and stock holders holding the bag. Insurance has become a big Ponzi scheme, it allows an industry to charge more for services then the market would allow. It is based on people paying far more into the system then they will ever get out of it while others take sweet profits from that pay while cutting services to those who paid for them. America anymore is now controlled by industrialized elitist that only care about profit not who lives or dies. The public is just as greedy and corrupt as the companies, that's why it goes on and that's why we continue to elect the same sellouts back in office. The whole idea of the trickle down theory was give tax breaks to the rich so that they would create jobs in the US and those jobs would widen the tax base so everyone wins. The people of the US are being played, now graft and corruption is the rule instead of decency and fair play. I don't understand what is so hard about rewarding people for investing in the US and taxing the hell out of them for not. There was a reason we had tariffs, Ross Perot warned of the big sucking sound with free trade agreements while our so called leaders promised prosperity for all. If you invest in jobs in the US the government makes more money to give you tax breaks and if you invest outside the US but want the comforts and security of the US you should pay more. You can't compete with countries that allow slave labor and the freedom to cut costs by not having any regulations. Instead of moving forward our so called leaders are taking us backwards to the days of slave labor, child labor, unsafe working conditions, products and pollution so that a select few can make massive profits while the majority suffer.
Love the headline, "placating outraged lawmakers". I can't find a more succinct statement ever. screw the people, placate politicians!
If there is any better of an idication of how our "elected leaders" regard we the people, I can't think of any other. We are an after thought.
Now come 2014, just you all remember who it was that destroyed this bill in the first place, the republicans lead by boehner. They walked away from it, they let us out to swing in the wind.
just you all remember that.
Compassion for those is need is an admirable trait no matter your political party. But my question is: Where is the money for this is going to come from where? What programs are going to get cut to pay for this? Living within one's means is not only an admirable trait, but a necessary one.
No programs are being cut, $30 B in going to other agencies as pork to create new programs and it's borrowed money. If someone didn't have flood insurance then your pretty much screwed. Grow up!
Once again this congress has failed to achieve my lowest possible expectations and they did it twice in one week. If these people worked in the private sector and performed at this level they would have received pink slips long ago.
8 billion, Katrina
30 billion, Sandy
Wake up!!!!
$30 B of that bill is pork for agencies that have no vested interest in Sandy. Is that what you want? To have the government special interest pick your pocket using a tragedy as an excuse?
That Peter King is the biggest POS hypocrite in Washington !! The SOB was one of 11 Republicans who voted against aid for Katrina victims and in Florida demanded spending cuts before giving aid to the areas affected by the hurricane...... But now, this disgusting low-life, wants his money !! .... F.U. Peter King !! F.U. !!
"To Placate Outraged Lawmakers"....SERIOUSLY?!!!
How about because IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO?!!!!
JESUS don't I hate these f*cking DO-NOTHING low-lifes!!!!
Had this affected their homes a relief fund would have been passed post haste
This ought to be a defining moment for the Republican Party, but it probably won't be. If I was a Republican and I was once I would be down at the Post Office this morning to register as a Democrat. This as I see it, is an IQ test for the US. If the people of this great nation are really that stupid then they deserve the ineptitude of the Tea Party and the likes of Grover Norquist and the GOP from now til Hell freezes over.
Politics is local.
The GOP has become a southern states party. if Hurricane Sandy had hit a southern State or Texas or Ohio Boehner's home state the bill would have passed ten days after Sandy. The bill would have passed in whole and full without splitting the amount and cascading the votes. This is a way to punish the northeast region of the Country for not being TeaParty Republican leaning enough.
It is clear and trying to hide the sun with the palm of the GOP hand is ridiculous. These same republicans would approve any military spending of $100 billion pork or no pork...for defense... But when it comes to rescuing a whole swat of the Country hit by natural disaster, the republicans see pork of 200 millions in a +60 Billion Bill and do not support it. There was no pork in this bill, the version received from the Senate was cleaned of any pork.
Again, the house bill was clean of any pork.
Boehner decided not to put it up for a vote because he knew a majority of his fellow republicans would have voted against it and he wanted to avoid the humiliation of being the Speaker who presided over defeat of a bill to bring relief to disaster victims.
The Republicans must reelect Boehner as Speaker. He saved the skin of his party. The GOP would have been wiped out of the Northeast in 2014 if the bill had come to a vote and was defeated.
All this says a lot about the State of the Republican Party in 2012 and 2013. It is a dysfunctional Party ripe for irrelevance. Unfortunately they are the majority in the House for now.
A tornado did hit and kill in the South last year. Obama never even visited Kansas, Oklahoma and Alabama much less introduce a bill like this one. He is paying off his millionaire friends who lost beach homes here - as well as ladding 51 billion in pork to the 9 billion that will help these victims. Alaska fisherise get 120 million? &0% of the emergency funds will not even be spent this year? Give us a break! Help the victims but cut the pork out!
im not a republican...but chris christie f-ing rules!
I do feel really bad for all of you its awful to have everything destroyed .We know we had no roof on our home for 5 months people trying to break in.Everything had water damage insurance would only pay 1/4 on most 1/2 on the rest. I know how frustrating and helpless you feel.Prayers to all of you. Now its time to take a good look at who you voted for..............From the past you should not be surprised by any of this. Best of luck we are all watching and waiting for you all to get assistance. The USA is watching and praying for you.....
.
Good job GOP. Vote on the 9 billion that wil help the victoims now. Separate out the 51 billion in pork that the Dem Senate passed without reading the bill to be voted on later.
Do you really think anyone is stupid enough to believe there was 51 billion dollars in pork? Obama requested 60 billion and when it left the Senate it became 60.4 billion. Any 5th grader could do the math and know it was 400 million.
The pork-barrel feast includes more than $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the Homeland Security and Justice departments. It also includes a whopping $150 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to dole out to fisheries in Alaska and $2 million for the Smithsonian Institution to repair museum roofs in DC.
An eye-popping $13 billion would go to “mitigation” projects to prepare for future storms.
Other big-ticket items in the bill include $207 million for the VA Manhattan Medical Center; $41 million to fix up eight military bases along the storm’s path, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; $4 million for repairs at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; $3.3 million for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and $1.1 million to repair national cemeteries.
The money requested by FEMA for the fisheries was for another declared disaster.
Aside from time needed to appreciate the needs of these states , they should already have the durn money to put the trauma behind.
Every entity in this country is held hostage by the House. That makes America a dinosaur while speed is needed. The American dream, yes sure but slowwwly.
What is ironic is that our social safety nets and national defense are at risk long term because our politicians and the American people cannot get their act together to do what is necessary to get our deficits/debt under control. Our unwillingness to take a little austerity now, will cause the austerity and pain down the road to be much worse. I would think that liberals would be very concerned about the social safety nets and conservatives would be very concerned about our national defense. This does not seem to be the case. I hope our country and form of government can survive the catastrophy that is being built day by day. In my opinion it is immoral to pass this austerity to our kids and grandkids. They will be cursing our names instead of honoring our rememberance. Such a sad state of affairs. It is nothing for Obama or anyone to celebrate. It is just the calm before the strom. Kind of like a smoker who gets cancer. He enjoyed smoking all those years until the cancer caused him a horrible death. At that point he wished he hadn't smoked so much but can't do it over again.
Is NBC reporting THIS story?
The Arab television network and mouthpiece of Muslim Terrorism, Al Jazeera said Wednesday it has acquired Current TV for a reported $100 Million dollars.
The U.S. network was started by former U.S. Vice President, Democrat, Al Gore.
The buy will give the network -- headquartered in Doha, Qatar -- greater access to the U.S. market.
The sale was finalized BEFORE the new Obama taxes took effect.
Algore.... the Liberal Media's Hero, laughing at his "drones" all the way to the bank!
