House chaplain makes appeal for compromise

House Speaker John Boehner, when asked about the way forward after Plan B went down to defeat, said, "God only knows."

Today, in the opening prayer at the start of the House session at noon ET, the House chaplain made a rare appeal to the heavens for compromise.

"May an imperfect compromise, when viewed from the perspective of our differences, not be undermined by a desire for political victory," House Chaplain Patrick Conroy implored.

Here's what he said in full:

"Let us pray. Eternal God, we give you thanks for giving us another day, a new year. The political struggles of the past year have revealed the divisions that exist in our nation. There are many American citizens who are angry, frustrated, and anxious for the future. This day is a day of history. Send your spirit upon the members of the people’s house. May an imperfect compromise when viewed from the perspective of our differences not be undermined by a desire for political victory. This is difficult for all. Give each member the grace and courage to forge a constructive solution for the greater good of the nation and all Americans. Help us to trust that no matter what, you will not abandon us. May all that is done this day be for your greater honor and glory. Amen."

After Plan B, Boehner pointed at the president and the Senate to get something done. "Now, it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff," he said then in a statement.

Now, it is up to Boehner whether he puts the bill, which passed the Senate 89-8, on the floor for a vote.

No Roark....we're gonna compromise with any ban on assault weapons. You libs love to compromise, right. Okay, you want ALL assault weapons banned. So, we'll compromise. You can ban half of the assault weapons. We'll keep the other half. Great compromise. Happy now, doofis?

God ain't the problem; the problem is those who will stand in the way of any compromise that doesn't fit their out-of-touch, far-right agenda (or that of their billionaire, corporate owners), even if a compromise is supported by the majority of Americans. PLEASE remember to vote out the Tea Party in 2014!

Lots of people have forgotten Jesse Helms and Strom Thrumond, among others of lesser abilities. Never think for a second a single "honorable member" cannot or would not hold the country to hostage for their districts (or personal) self interest. For those too young to remember them, google is your friend.

While he's at it, why doesn't he try an appeal to REASON.

Yeah, I'm sure some sky pilot appealing to some imaginary Big Daddy In The Sky is gonna get it done.

What a f***in' joke!

Very simple, pass the current bill up for vote. Second after that is over cut federal programs that just do nothing including branches in the government. Evey time this budget subject comes up they want to cut Social Security. Why? They borrowed money from S.S. and never paid it back These people have paid all their lives into S.S. and they want to cut it,come on!! They even want to redo the way that the COLA is figured(CPI) out which will be even less than what S.S. gets in COLA. Medicine and doctors fees go up that exceeds the COLA and now Washington wants to make it even lower. Medicare for S.S. retired people help out in hospital bills and they want to cut there too. I'm 65 and worked all my life and S.S. is our means of income

Appealing to God doesn't seem to work----considering all our wishes to God to "Bless America" and considering all that this country has endured in the past 10 years--we would be better off if God blessed our enemies!!!

              "AMERI CAN DO SO COMPROMISE"

By using Letters From BOTH Of These Names; REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS

              It Spells Out The Solution, But It Takes Letters From Both Names To Spell;

              "AMERI CAN DO SO COMPROMISE"

"KUDOS..BOTH PARTIES COMPROMISED FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA"

A GREAT START FOR THE NEW YEAR..NEVER STOP COMPROMISING..THE ONLY KEY TO FINDING SOLUTIONS FOR MOST OF AMERICANS..NO ONE GETS IT ALL..THIS IS WHY COMPROMISE IS THE ONLY ANSWER.. A FACT OF LIFE..NO MATTER WHO TRIES TO ARGUE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

"COMPROMISING IS THE ONLY ANSWER, WHEN THERE ARE VAST DIFFERENCES OF HOW TO SOLVE AMERICA'S PROBLEMS"

"THIS IS A FACT & JUST PLAIN COMMON SENSE"

God does not care about the U.S.S.A anymore than any other government on this globe.

If the bible is true when Jesus was tempted by the devil he recognized that all governments on this globe belong to the devil and later said his kingdom was NOT of this world.

If the bible is not true as the libs would have one believe than there is no god to whom to pray!

                  Lose-lose either way!

From my perspective, there are a lot of "libs" who believe in Jesus and the Bible. The difference, as I see it, is that Liberals follow Jesus's teachings far greater than any "conservative." Present day Conservatives are full of greed and selfishness. Conservatives talk a lot about Jesus but fail to follow His teachings. I don't know when but, at some point, Satan must have crept into the Conservative community and has had a lasting impact.

A Christian preacher asking for God's help in the "fiscal cliff"? What a laugh. By all accounts, the Christian God is the same deity that apparently sends crazed gunmen to elementary schools to murder little kids. The Christian God sends hurricanes to punish cities because of gays. The Christian God apparently let 911 happen because of witches.

And you think your God will HELP with something?! Ha ha ha ha! You worship a celestial sociopath.
