Obama on Benghazi: 'This was a huge problem'

President Barack Obama calls the attacks on U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice "politically motivated" and says they are unacceptable.

President Barack Obama on Sunday called security issues that led to the deaths of four Americans in the Benghazi consulate attack "a huge problem," although he continued to defend U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice as a victim of political scapegoating by Republicans who have suggested an administration coverup of the situation.

"We're not going to be defensive about it," Obama said of the State Department review of the attacks during an exclusive interview on NBC's Meet the Press. "We're not going to pretend that this was not a problem.  This was a huge problem.  And we're going to implement every single recommendation that's been put forward."

Saying that some State Department officials "have been held accountable," Obama said that the review of the September 11 attack showed there was "sloppiness" in terms of security measures but that mistakes were not intentional.

In an exclusive interview with Meet the Press, President Barack Obama tells David Gregory he's optimistic the fiscal cliff can be averted, lays out the goals for his second term, and also discusses the Benghazi attack and how it was handled by the administration and those on Capitol Hill.

But he defended U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, who withdrew from consideration to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after Republicans vigorously opposed her for her role in discussing the attacks after the raid.

"She appeared on a number of television shows reporting what she and we understood to be the best information at the time," Obama said. "This was a politically motivated attack on her.  I mean, of all the people in my national security team, she probably had the least to do with anything that happened in Benghazi."

Obama indicated that intelligence officials have "good leads" as to who carried out the attack.

"With respect to who carried it out, that's an ongoing investigation," he said. "The F.B.I. has sent individuals to Libya repeatedly.  We have some very good leads, but this is not something that I'm going to be at liberty to talk about right now."

What a complete shallow self absorbed con artist piece of garbage this president is as a human being. Calls his responsibility for the deaths of people a "problem". Then uses the school shootings to talk about how bad "he" felt about it. And all used to shift focus off his failing and non existent economic policy. Just a loser.

As you're president Obama you can make your own laws for the world and you don't abide by the laws that you make. The constitution, You have broken every law of the land . The White house is a one way street in Washington. The laws outside of Washington the Patriots Act. The government can do anything they want even if you didn't commit a crime . The government can sure create and inflate and impose a crime on any American citizen. The answer in Washington is you have no rights. But i"ll say one thing a long as we have the constitution i will stand by it till death do us part. If for any reason I'll feel threaten by the government in any way or form i will defend the constitution that for all the American people the good of the land to stop any criminal intent that is do to others and myself. For this united states of America i my country not the government country. The government is suppose to govern. but they are working outside of Washington that is why nothing is getting done. This was a great nation at one time now its weak do to wars outside of the unites states involvement. Policing up foreign countries that has cause this country to go broke. Giving of foreign aid to other countries the American people tax dollars and tax this country do to excessive spending in Washington. My motto is to defend life, property and government were intentions are good for all American in the united states. Corruption in government is getting out of control and is a cover up by all the news media that is on the take to be funded guess by whom. This is my expression what i have been following for the past eight years while we are loosing America to the foreign land. The enemy doesn't have to start a war with the united states, They know as they are watching and reading the destruction of our economy is creating a devastation to American by put our affairs in other countries. Without a sound economy you can't go to war because the government is addicted and wants to try out its new toys. That is why we are at right now on a fiscal cliff of destruction.

We all know in the end some no name Major or Captain will take the hit for this mess, so why not just put the blame off on someone else and be done with it?

Saying that some State Department officials "have been held accountable,"

I need to find a way to be held accountable for something so I can move to a new office, not have any responsibilities, and still draw a fat paycheck.

Obama still refuses to address where he was during the 9 hours it was being watched in the White House. Why? Because he wanted them killled so the news of him selling weapons to the Libyan millitias would not get out... which by the way are all terrorists.

What's sad is both parties have become pawns of a greater evil who holds the purse strings.

Bush was just as guilty as is Obama bringing in the NWO and dissolving America.

You think your vote counts? The Federal Reserve must go and U.N. needs to be kicked out of America for anything to begin to change.

All these major events in America are staged.

Hillary finds herself in the uneasy position of telling the truth - or lying under oath - as her husband Bill Clinton did in order to save herself and perhaps the Obama presidency

Bill would like having an even play if Hillary got caught lying - as he did

              Reply#357 - Mon Dec 31, 2012 8:54 AM EST

Bill & Hillary are past masters @ lying, as are all career politicians. It is a prerequisite to the position to be able to throw other people under the bus when your own career is in jeopardy. Read the story of Bill & Hillary re: the Whitewater scandal. Nothing new here. Rice was nothing more than collateral damage.

They need to hold republicans responsible for this. The cuts to the budget were a huge part of the weak security. Those cuts were championed by people like Ryan. Romneys, VP choice. Yes dems voted for them too. But these kinds of cuts get asked for by the right, not the left. If the right had its way, they would cut everything. And you wouldnt hear a word about who was responsible, if they were in charge.

                It costs money for security.

And lastly. The Ambassador chose to stay against recommendations from the State department. They made the mistake of not over-riding the Ambassadors wishes. But it was the Ambassador who wanted to stay, and made the call.

"However on October 26, "Ambassador" posted the following RUMINT on TigerDroppings (h/t Jim Hoft):

I heard a story today from someone inside the military that I trust entirely. The story was in reference to General Ham that Panetta referenced in the quote below.

                  quote:

"(The) basic principle is that you don't deploy forces into harm's way without knowing what's going on; without having some real-time information about what's taking place," Panetta told Pentagon reporters. "And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Ham, Gen. Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation."

The information I heard today was that General Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

The story continues that now General Rodiguez would take General Ham's place as the head of Africom."
